What happened? This place was the bomb. I went today and it's a whole different restaurant called iron toro or w.e. Really sad about the change.

Had been ordering tacos from this place consistently for a few months. My boyfriend and I LOVED the koreano tacos, but delivery was totally inconsistent. Each time something different would be wrong with our order. Ingredients missing, weird substitutions, and then the tacos disappeared entirely from the menu. They eventually reappeared when this place rebranded, along with much higher prices. We gave it a couple more tries with their delivery, but the much higher prices made these errors much more irritating. The last order we placed, tacos were wrong, ingredients missing, all the usual, but we also received an order of guacamole that was completely brown, watery, and inedible. I finally called up the restaurant to complain about this ongoing situation. The person I spoke to simply said, "Well, I'm looking at our guacamole right now and it doesn't look like that, so I don't know what to say." Just a thought, but when working in customer service you could start with a simple "I'm sorry" and maybe offer some sort of solution to the problem, not challenge what I'm telling you. Anyway, we haven't ordered from this place since. It's a shame, too, because those tacos used to be great... when they actually showed up in the delivery. Also just wanted to post a photo of the guacamole since whoever I spoke to seemed not to believe me.

Ordered a steak quesedilla, 3 steak tacos and chips from here last night. This order came to a mind boggling $27. On arrival it was apparent that the tortilla on the quesedilla had never seen a flame, it appeared to be straight out of the bag, was saturated with vinegar and impossible to hold. Yes, vinegar. The contents of the quesedilla was meant to be steak although it looked like chicken and there was some onions too. Not that you could taste either because it just tasted like soggy, vinegar saturated tortilla. The tacos weren't much better either. Basically I threw $27 in the trash.

I've eaten here several times and have never--NEVER--been disappointed. Their tacos, burritos, sandwiches, and salads are all delicious! My one complaint? It's simply that they don't open until Noon. Sometimes I eat an earlier lunch due to my work schedule (11-11:30). Great food. Fantastic delivery times. 5 stars across the board!

God, I love you. All you need to know--$2 tacos (bean/cheese, chicken [my favorite], pork, veggie, etc.) from 4-7 pm and 10-12 pm Monday-Friday. Two tacos fill me up. $4 for dinner? Yes, please, every day. Pickled onions yummmm. So glad this is my neighborhood taco joint!

This place has the worst Mexican food. On Taco Bell level. Everything is served warm. Overpriced. I dislike it more the second time. I tried three tacos. They all sucked. I promise, no matter how hungry I am, to go here again.

Best delivery tacos in Brooklyn! Their chicken mole and braised pork are particularly delicious, served between double layers of tortillas with tasty pickled onions. The corn with chipotle mayo is also excellent - I was surprised to get 2 perfectly roasted halves of corn on the cob per side order. Skip out on the steak (dry and oddly seasoned with rosemary), beans (dry) and kimchi (clearly just not their thing). In addition, the service here is AMAZING. After I ordered online, I called them up to make sure they got my obsessive "no cilantro" notes - boo, it makes me sick. The guy on the phone was incredibly friendly. He made sure there wasn't even a speck of the stuff on my food, and sent me a bunch of extra cilantro-free sauces to go with it! Delivery is wicked fast - our order arrived in literally fifteen minutes at 5:30 on a Saturday.

  • Ari A.

Pros: -Cheap -the guacamole was delicious -Tacos, burritos, quesadillas, all authentic. -take out service available (might be better) -scout mob deal, 50% off up to $8 -ample seating Cons: -they brought our chips at the same time of our entrees -no ice water available -the salsa tasted burnt -slow service

5 stars for being the best Mexican joint in Greenpoint. Skip Papacitos and Calexico and get 3 badass tacos + rice and beans for 10 bucks.

  • Brian P.

This place is literally across the street from my apartment and I'm very lucky that's the case. The food is fresh and cheap. The staff is really great. The service is quick and easy. I've eaten pretty much everything and never disliked anything. I recently started getting the tortas. The skirt steak is very good. The drinks are also tasty including the horchata and cantaloupe juice.

Amazing tacos and burritos. Seriously the best burrito in Greenpoint in my opinion. I can never have enough of their carnitas tacos and mango jarrito. Best meal ever. There chips are also great but I am not a fan of the salsa.

  • Christine M.

They don't make their own chips!!!! And what is with that god awful fluorescent light out front?! Talk about atmosphere killer, i feel bad for the neighbors. It hurts my eyes just to walk past there.

I have ordered the tacos and rice and beans from here a few times and love it! They have delicious combinations and varieties of tacos and the food is excellent. The Korean steak taco is amazing and the chicken mole is good! I haven't tried the quesadillas or enchiladas but want to. The staff is very friendly and the food comes out fast. This place is perfect when you want something satisfying and yummy:)

  • Irena C.

Seriously, why would anyone go here when Calexico is around the corner?

  • Brandon S.

The best $6 take out chicken burritos. These things are delicious, and they grill them shut so they don't fall apart like chipotle. Win.

Food = 2.5-3 stars, Service = 1 star. Service first, then the food. We ordered from El Toro via Seamless Web. When we got our food, we noticed that part of our order was missing. We called them instantly and they said they'd deliver what was missing. An hour later we called again and they said they'd have it to us in 15 minutes. 45 minutes later (1 hr, 45 min after our food was originally delivered), we finally received our full order. No excuse for such a delay. The food was only meh. I appreciate that they're one of the few delivery places that offer queso, but the tacos I had left a lot to be desired. I had the taco combo (3 tacos + rice & beans). 1 taco was bean & cheese, 1 pork, and 1 steak. I had two main issues with the tacos. First, they were covered in pickled onions. There were more onions than anything else on the tacos. Second, the pico had a real bitter taste that overpowered all other flavors. It made each of the three tacos taste almost exactly the same. The meat tasted ok, but all things considered, I won't ever order from here again. There's simply no reason to go here for mexican when New Mexico Place, Tacos Morelos, and Don Ponchos are all better options nearby.

I can only say good things about El Toro. I was very happily surprised with the food. Being from LA, most mexican restaurants in NYC are not up to par. EL Toro does not fit that stereotype. The staff is friendly and kind, the decor and music nice and relaxing, and the prices are truly a gem. The only thing I would change is having a non-spicy guacamole option. If you want fabulous mexican in Brooklyn, El Toro is the place for you!

  • M B.

Wow. This place is such a south Greenpoint gem! My favorite tacos outside of California so far... authentic and exquisite! The veggie options are moist and flavorful (for my veggie boy) and the meat (mmmm korean bbq steak) is deeelicious for me. BYOB is always a plus. Like other reviewers, my onnnnllly little complaint... the music!!! Wha? But easy to ignore while in raptures of delight over the tacos.

Nothing to write home about. Actually, nothing to write about period. This is just below average fake Mexican street food, and you can taste it in the guac.

Moving next door was a blessing and a curse. Sure, I love the food, and the guys that work there are super chill, but in the two months since I moved to this block I've easily eaten here twenty times. Doesn't leave much variety in my diet. But really, with prices so affordable, food so fresh, perfectly seasoned, and so quick, and with such friendly and attentive service, how can I stay away? There's just no better option around here. These guys are doing it right.

  • S B.

Good, cheap tasty tacos, burritos and quesadillas. Atmosphere is super laid-back, restaurant is clean, and guys who work behind the counter are so cool and friendly! I love sitting at the bar and talking to them when I go in.

I have been a good number of times and ordered take out as well. Every time the food is good. The guacamole is actually really good as well. I first went here with a Groupon and the quality has stayed the same. I can't be sure what people are griping about maybe they like the DBs that go to Calexico. This place is not a scene just a good decent taco place with basic seating and a backyard to eat in as well. The rice and beans are my only thing I'm not so fond of they can have more flavor they are just ok. Never ordered delivery since it's a ten minute walk from my house. The taco shells are your basic corn that come 30 to a bag they taste like they should maybe the other reviewer likes fast food Mexican and should stick to Taco Bell. Will be going back to again and again.

get the stewed chicken taco, the asada taco and the churrizo and you'll be in heaven. It's great. i eat here every other day. happy hour prices are amazing too.

Fine Tacos in Poland. Not great but the BYOB and deals after 10 help.

  • Kevin K.

This place is great! I've never ordered delivery, so I can't comment on that.. it's cheap and delicious (particularly for the price). Just a small warning, one unique thing they do on their tacos is they pickle their onions. I'd never encountered this before, and I wasn't sure how I'd feel about it but I ended up really liking it! Final thoughts.. get the Elote!

I ordered what I thought to be a clear order off seamless. When that did not arrive I called to ask for it to be corrected, they hung up on me. When I called back, they complained to me that they didn't like my attitude... Welcome to the new customer service of greenpoint! it's McDonalds!

  • Ju L.

It was okay. Scoutmob's 50% off helped. They have a fun variety of tacos/ enchiladas ($2.50-3.50), burritos, tortas, etc. and I think I was expecting better. I realllly wanted to like this place. GOOD: The tacos came quickly! BAD: None of it tasted fresh. GOOD: They heap the fillings on, and each taco comes with two corn tortillas, so you can actually have two mini-tacos with less mess! (I'm already starting to reach, aren't I?) BAD: The fish taco WAS very cold, and definitely reminded me of canned whitefish - though if I'm going to eat inferior fish, I'd rather it be as close to icy cold as possible. The Korean taco was strange and sweet and the promised kimchi was totally absent... there was not a hint of Koreanness in it, and I know my Korean food. GOOD: Choose any 3 tacos or enchiladas with a side of rice and beans for $10.50. Well... it sounds good, right? BAD: The rice and beans are bland and come in a tiny paper basket, and the enchiladas are as uninteresting as the tacos. You realize that for that price you could be eating a full entree at most fun restaurants.

I ordered a Skirt Steak Quesadilla and their small guacamole & then added Chips. The quesadilla was really good. It even had some of the pickled onions in it, which I ate for the first time - it gave it a great flavor. The guacamole was good too. Fast delivery also, nice!

Excellent fish tacos. Fast delivery. They will deliver to the nearby bar you're hanging out at on a cold January night. What more could you ask for?

The way these guys make t heir Mexican food is Divine. I love Mexican, but now I want to spend the rest of my life with it!!!!. If you really want a filling meal I would order a Burrito and fill it with Shrimps, Guac, Line juice and dont forget those pickled onions! MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM, sooooo good. Also these guys have a real Knack for Tacos and such so give it all a try. My hopes are to eat everything at this place one day! It;s really that good!!!!

  • Kit H.

I have only ever ordered delivery from this place but the food has always been to my liking. Sometimes the delivery can be slow and sometimes they forget to include the rice or beans or both but the food is warm and tastes good. I'm sure the food is even better in the shop. The guac is good and not at all spicy. The meats are well seasoned. I prefer the tacos over the burrito as the burrito tortilla isn't much to my liking.

    (4)
  • Candice B.

I've had food here 3 times so far, very recently. Delivery was WAY too long, over an hour, and then I've done take away 2 times. Pro's: Carnitas - great flavor Fish taco - delish Guac - awesome, fresh good flavor!! Corn Tortilla's for the taco's Salsa - roasted tomato so the flavor is smoky Take away was about 10 minutes after we ordered on location Con's: Chips - heavy yellow corn, a bit much for the lightness of the salsa and guac Chicken Mole enchilada - too heavily sauced Delivery was VERY slow. Ordered on a Tuesday around 8:45 - food finally delivered at 10. I had to call and see where it was. the delivery/take away containers aren't full aluminum, they have plastic tops, so the food does get to luke warm quickly. recommend that you call in your order and head over there to pick up and eat in or get home quickly.

Stopped in here on a cold Monday afternoon for a snack. It was empty but the guy at the counter was awesome and nice. I told him I had never been there and he recommended the quesadilla or burrito. I got the veggie quesadilla and a fresh pressed organic Canteloupe juice for $10. It was delicious! Tortilla was crisp on the outsides, the cheese was perfectly melted and veggies a plenty. I live around the corner so I'll definitely be back!

  • Melissa M.

Great place for delivery and price is very reasonable. Tacos always fresh when they arrive. The chicken mole and potato tacos I think are the best. Potato taco doesn't sound that exciting but trust me it is very tasty here. The rice and beans (which come when you get three tacos) are a bit dry and tasteless, but hey, nothing is perfect. In the summer this place is also a great BOYB spot and has a little yard in the back. However, there is nothing fancy going on inside so if you are looking for something to impress out of town friends or a date, it's probably not the place (unless you have have awesome out of town friends or an awesome date).

  • Todd M.

After initially trying this place out because of a 50% discount that was being offered on Scoutmob, I have been back probably close to another 10 times. The staff is excellent. Really nice and go out of their way for you. There is always seating, and the outdoor space is able to create a feel that one is not in fact in NYC. As someone who makes guacamole frequently and holds himself to a high standard, theirs is special. Very tasty, spicy, but it hits the spot with me. As a disclaimer though. with the 3 taco/enchalada "deal"... Don't let this be the deciding factor in whether you decide to purchase them. The tacos/enchalada's themselves are excellent. The beans/rice combo they give you in the meal are not cooked properly, ever, it seems. In spite of this, I thoroughly enjoy eating here every time and haven't had a bad experience yet. Check it out, for sure.

I'm a bit surprised at some of the reviews on here. This is a simple place with great cheap food. What else do you want? The guys have great customer service and seem to take pride in their work. Works for me. If you want high-end Mexican food and ambience, then those places exist in Williamsburg too but that's not the angle the guys are going for here.

  • Laura M.

I've been here twice now for take out so I can't review their dine in service, but the take out was ok. Both times I had the roasted corn burrito and my boyfriend had the chorizo burrito. I was not in love with the burrito, but it tastes ok and is cheap enough that we don't feel bad that we've gone here when we don't feel like cooking. The first time we got queso dip and for me it left a lot to be desired. It was kind of strange and lumpy. I was not a fan of the texture at all. Also the black beans in my burrito were a bit too firm and the pickled onions inside were a bit over powering. I wish that they used either raw or grilled onions because I just felt as though they didn't quite match the rest of the ingredients. So I'll probably be back if I'm hungry and don't want to spend a lot, but I'm in no rush to get there.

    (3)
  • Erica J.

I can only speak to the burritos and burrito bowls here; not the tacos (which seem to be everyone's complaints). I've only had vegetarian food here as well. i think it's a standard take-out burrito place, and one of the things I like about it is that it's not overly greasy. I feel like everything is pretty fresh and well prepared.

I stopped in on a Friday afternoon for a quick bite. While waiting for my tacos i watched delivery guy clip his dirty fingernails at a table. I asked him to stop and he responded by telling me it was ok because place was empty. No manager around so I let cashier know. He promptly cleaned table and swept floor. Needless to say I took my tacos to go. Shrimp was good, pork bone dry. This was my third time. Not sure I would venture back.

  • Amanda L.

I love this place. Quick, cheap, and delicious. The chips and queso, guacamole, elote quesadilla, and burritos are all really good. The lemon limeade is good too. Judging from the yelp reviews it appears that people don't realize... THE FISH TACO IS SUPPOSED TO BE COLD. And it's fucking delicious with a little salt and hot sauce. Also... holy crap... those pickled onions of theirs are addictive.

  • Brandon V.

I've been here twice; I had a chicken burrito one time and steak tacos the other. The presentation on the tacos was cute, the ingredients seemed fresh, but where it fell apart was in the "shell." These are the thinnest, driest soft tortilla shells I have ever tasted. It was like munching on Styrofoam, I don't know what was up. The burrito was okay, but the rice is flavorless and the beans are too salty. If you REALLY want Mexican and you're too lazy to travel to or order in something else, and you're in Greenpoint, this might satisfy, but if not there's no real reason to go out of your way.

    (2)
  • Ron H.

In the dismal landscape that is NYC Mexican food, this place shines. Pros: The tacos are very good, horchata is fresh, enchiladas are tasty (w/ sour cream and guac), it's cheap and they deliver very quickly. Cons: Rice and beans were a little far on the al dente side and lacked flavor. I recommend anything with chorizo and (as previously stated) the pickled onions are great.

    (4)
  • Lila C.

Tacos are generous, decor is nice, but the food is not very good and not fresh. I went around 1pm so assumed that coming close enough to opening would ensure the food was recently prepared, but the quickness with which it arrived and the temperature of the food confirmed that it was not fresh. I had the fish taco which was like ICE COLD, the steak taco which was ok, and the chicken mole taco which tasted more like BBQ sauce than mole sauce. I used the scoutmob app to get 50% off which is good because I would not have paid full price for that food, and threw out most of it. The rice and beans were cold, and pretty flavorless. Greenpoint isn't exactly a taco mecca but I wouldn't run here.

  • Dan B.

Damn good tacos. BYOB. Weird backyard.

  • D M.

Meh. I tried this place because it's only a few blocks from my apartment, hoping it'd be good. It's not. I got a burrito which was rather bland and boring. It took much longer than I expected to get our food (and it's not like the place was crowded) and the prices were nothing to write home about. If you're looking for tacos, go to Mesa. If you're looking for burritos, go to Loco Burrito. Whatever you do, don't go here.

Ok so im not a liar and am not gonna lie...i know the guys here at el toro. the owners are 3 men (awsome people) who all went to school together. Its ironic how back in high school every friday we used to cut school and go to taco bell. And here they are doing there thing. The decore and dedication towards this place paid in full because these guys did an excellent job flipping it from a grocery store to what it is now. Id definately take a girl here if it were next to me. as for my fellow yelpers, IGNORE the bed reviews. the majority of the reviews are from some idiot who cant stand those guys because of how optimistic they are, doing the same thing he does at half his age. you will not be dissapointed with their food. and for whatever reason if you are, tell them, and i promise they will make it up to you. like i said, i know the owners, and they are awsome.

Small little place that serves a nice taco ($2 after 10p). Love the hearty $6 steak burrito. Probably the best deal there. The guacamole is a little expensive for how little you get, but it has a nice kick to it. Particularly like the portion sizes - much more reasonable than a Chipotle that's the size of your head. Always feel pleasantly full afterward, never gross. Cash only!

El Toro catered my girlfriend's birthday party, and they really went above and beyond. Delicious tacos, and very cheap! Dig it!

El Toro is currently offering a soft opening before it's grand opening this Saturday, and if you live in the area I know you've been walking past its doors waiting to see the result of this convenience-store-turned-taco-treasury. That wait, my friends, is over. My neighbor and I headed over to try their soft open specials ($2 tacos y'all!) and, as a Texan, I was surprisingly impressed. I say surprising because I have not, repeat NOT, had anything closely resembling good Mexican food since I moved into this hood. We tried the guacamole....impressed. The salsa was good, but a bit too BBQ-y for me. (I'm a salsa snob). I tried the steak taco and the roasted corn taco...hello, El Toro! The roasted corn taco left a delightfully spicy tingle in my mouth and the steak in the steak taco was perfectly moist. I can't wait to see what their full menu looks like and I hope that this place takes off in this neighborhood. It is a much needed cheap/convenient/delicious/late night snack place in this part of Greenpoint. Welcome to the hood, El Toro!

(my review from when they first opened, which was posted under their old name "Tres Toros") LOVED this place. So glad they're in the neighborhood. They just did a soft opening, so they're not quite up and running yet and they still have a limited menu, but so far they have the best burritos around. Also delicious chunky spicy-ish guacamole. And, for the first time ever, I liked a steak taco better than a pork taco. I'm sure that means something, though I don't know what. The food is super cheap (possibly for the soft opening), so we'll see how the prices are when they fully open, but I'm sure they'll be reasonable. Everyone working there was nice... the only thing I'd even change is the music! UPDATE: Have fallen out of love with this place since I realized the tortilla chips are the round cheap kind (like in a movie theatre). Also, there's no real ambiance in the actual restaurant, and the music is not great. Take this for what it's worth. If you wanted a cheap, quick meal you'll definitely find that here. Sorry, El Toro, I had such high expectations for you!

  • Norman F.

Reliable cheap eats. Great tacos, quesadillas, horchata. My only gripe is they don't have fresh tortilla chips. Otherwise a great place if you're local for lunch or dinner. Late night taco happy hour is the best!

Just a few minutes from my apartment, thought I'd give this place a shot...and was certainly glad that i did! This place has just recently opened up, but I think it has great potential. Friendly staff, and patient enough to heed my request to hold the cheese on my chicken taco ( crazy i know, but i'm not a fan of dairy! ) The only drawback for me: the salsa totally needs to be SPICIER!

The food is good and the backyard is amazing. Plus, you can bring your own booze. Might I suggest the steak or chilled fish tacos? It's a nice little non-pretentious Mexican spot.

I have food here more often than I'd like because I live close to it and I love Mexican food. The guys are nice, the food is OK, they are fast and deliver through seamless web. There area lot of vegan and vegetarian options, but I usually stick with the meat because I prefer pinto to black beans and they only have the latter.

    (3)

Decent tacos and burritos. They just opened and seem to be new to the biz, so I imagine things might pick up. Also - I was happy that my burrito wasn't the size of a bus.

I had takeout from here last night. Everyone seemed to like what they had - my two friends had tacos, I had a chicken mole burrito. Overall it was pretty good? This has to be the most boring yelp review ever, but for a cheap Mexican takeout place you're going to getChaucer not Shakespeare.

I dont really understand the bad ratings this place gets. Personally, I have never set foot inside this place but as far as delivery goes, it gets an A+ from me. Food always arrives fast (faster than any place I order from and it isnt even the closest) and its always warm. My last order is what prompted me to review. It was during Hurricane Sandy and it arrived in only 30 mins! I ordered the Toro salad and it was perfect. It reminds me of if Chipotle's Burrito Bowl, which is already pretty awesome, was even more perfect! The lettuce was crisp and cold as was the sour cream and Guacamole (which they dont skimp on!) and the proteins were warm. I dont know how they do it. Im sorry I love this place more people should give it a chance.

Really can't complain at all here. They are super friendly here, and their food is fantastic. I recommend the tortas (a bit pricey), or the burritos (great deal). The verde sauce is awesome.

  • Theresa C.

I stopped in here on a Saturday to pick up some lunch. No one was inside the place but it smelled soooo good. The Tacos were a bit pricey but they had a combination platter that was decent and it was really tasty. I just wish I could pick between corn tortillas and flour tortillas. Beans were kinda dry other than that i might just try this place again.

Stopped on in for a quick dinner and was very disappointed after reading other reviews. After the waitress decided to get off her phone to take my order, I ordered a chicken taco, bean and cheese enchilada, & Mexican corn on the cob. My order came out to 8 bucks and left stuffed! They have a happy hour special-$2 select tacos from 4-7. The taco was very good and flavorful, the enchilada however was absolutely disgusting, right out of the microwave. The beans were undercooked, hard, and cold, there was no cheese inside and had no flavor. The guacamole on the side however, was very tasty! The corn wasn't that great either- two pieces of frozen corn with chile power and cojita cheese. I'm sorry El Toro, perhaps I should bring a bottle next time to be able to enjoy you. (it's BYOB)

I've only ordered delivery from this restaurant so I can't comment on the ambience of the location itself. However, whenever I order from El Toro the food arrives amazingly quick and is very delicious. One of the problems with ordering delivery food is that the food will get very soggy. This is never really a problem with El Toro probably because of the quick delivery.

These boys delivered to us at a bar, during the hurricane... As if thats not enough, the food is slammin and happy hour will get you awesome lemon-limeade and a taco for $5... Get into it.

Toro Toro Toro!!! I'm a fan. It's been a while since i was there but i remember the experience being simple and solid. Chips were those circular yellow corn chips that i am strangely addicted to (although not authentic) and the red salsa was so good and complex you could tell they were using some sort of chile like guajillo or new mexico, maybe pulla which gave it a a nice almost bitter and earthy undertone. Muy bueno. Got the carnitas tacos and the coreano which is Korean themed with kimchi. Both were very good and moist. My favorite part is the pickled onion they put on the tacos. Great prices and a nice addition to a neighborhood that seems to lack good Hispanic food.

Two words: korean tacos. Try them. Also, the guacamole is fantastic.

I don't think I can bring myself to go back there-- we went because my friend had gone during their soft opening and said it showed promise, but this visit was such a disappointment. it was so off-putting that we didn't even talk about it until we were leaving-- I asked, "Was everything supposed to be cold? Did I miss something on the menu? and baby-mama confessed that everythign we'd ordered (6 tacos) was like, prep-table cold. Food: weird, bad, old and cold. The fish taco was a cold, slippery fish salad that tasted like canned fish. The pork tasted OK but was also cold and in the two cold tortillas that wrapped everything up, it was like a cold surprise. I wonder if their stream tables were broken, but they had a little plancha/press that they shoudl've employed. Service: Whatever-- they helped with my friend's stroller, if that counts. Interior: Cold, and the door was propped open on a rainy, chilled-through day.

Stopped in on a whim today. Ordered one pescado and a chicken molé taco to go. It was about a 5 minute wait. The fish taco is grilled and served cooled and it was yummy! The chicken molé one was ok. I will definitely go back for the fish tacos.

Really delicious tacos, I've had the Pollo Guisado and Carne Asada, both tasty, loved the pickled onions and cilantro. The roasted corn is another favorite. Super cheap, fast delivery, and BYOB.

never in my life have i ever had a cold shrimp burrito. the shrimp weren't room temperature they were *COLD* (fresh from the refrigerator). when i asked the guy behind the counter he said they grill the shrimp then chill them. they ended up giving me a steak burrito instead which was pretty tasty. on my way out the door i suggested to the guy working there that they should put (cold) next to the shrimp on the menu because that is an unusual way to serve shrimp burritos / tacos. he then told me that the fish taco is also served cold!!?! i've eaten mexican food my whole life and i have never had a literal cold filling in a burrito or taco. be warned people.

So Happy that El Toro came to Greenpoint. Best Mexican in Greenpoint! although...honestly the competition isn't too stiff in these parts. Yummy, tasty, flavorful food. This is not Tex-Mex nor a full on restaurant. They do not serve huge sizzling hot plates of Red sauce and cheese covered entrees nestled next to huge portions of beans and rice. It seems that that is what some previous reviewers of this place were expecting. Nope! El Toro, for the most part, is just a simple taqueria. They do however take some creative liberty with their menu, as any interesting food place should. This is a great place to grab a small snack or you will want to order a few items for a more substantial meal. It is sort of like a Tapas bar since the menu mostly consists of smaller items. The food is very reasonably priced. Yes, what some reviewers are saying about the food temperature is true. Items do not come to you super hot. Menu Items vary from warmish, to room temperature, to even slightly cold. That is the style of their food. If it was a TexMex entree, than yes, it would be horrible if it was not sizzling hot. I can't even picture how they would serve these simple fresh tacos "sizzling hot" though. I've been frequenting El Toro since their soft opening and I hope they do well, I like the place. It's counter service only and there is abundant seating available if you or a bunch of friends want to eat there.

El Toro did some catering for a small event we threw at home, and they completely outdid themselves. They really exceeded my expectations. The taco fillings were delicious, and the guys threw in all the fixings, condiments, paper plates and utensils, all at such a reasonable price. Our guests raved about the food, and the whole party was a success, thanks to El Toro!

Super. I'm tempted to leave a bad review so it doesn't get inundated but I just can't. Perfect size meals, good price. Very chill and you gotta love the location, for me anyway.

This has become our main Mexican take out place. The food is great. Tacos, enchiladas, quesadillas, queso dip..... All tasty. Even the salsas are good. ;). Delivery is usually pretty quick and the food is hot and fresh.

I really like this place. I would actually say it is the best taco spot that I know of in this corner of Williamsburg/Greenpoint. I went during their soft opening and the guys working were very friendly and explained all of the items on the menu very thoroughly. My favorites are the pork, the fish, and the korean tacos. I also like that I can get my horchata fix here. I wish these dudes a lot of luck because I like the creativity in their menu and the service has always been friendly, even while they were sorting out the kinks in the beginning.

My carnitas was comfortingly tender, the carne asada pleasingly chewy, and the spiciness did a lovely job of raising my serotonin-levels. Which is exactly what I needed. There were pickled onions, wedges of lime, but not a shred of iceberg lettuce or orange cheese present anywhere. This is a good thing. I also thought the tortillas were surprisingly flavorful (really, when's the last time you remember *tasting* your tortilla?). It's not your typical flourescent-bulb-lit fast food joint, but it's not edison-bulbed Brooklynery either, which I appreciate. And I just gotta say to the other reviewer who claimed the owner need to go to Wahoo's in LA--uh, lady?--Wahoo's is a chain. They put shredded cheddar on their fish tacos. Their tacos suck. El Toro's tacos decidedly do not suck.

Had the steak, pork, and chorizo tacos delivered. You could taste the individual ingredients and it was pretty obvious that someone in the kitchen cared. It's really great to see authentic examples of inexpensive Mexican food in NYC. I will definitely be eating here again.

Not at all recommended based on the cold bean and cheese enchilada (that ended up having no cheese in it). Never had an enchilada without piping hot red sauce. Really disappointing. Definitely head for the mexi truck at 7th and Bedford. These guys need to go out to LA and head to Wahoos to learn a thing or two before calling themselves a 'tacqueria'.

They are such nice folks... I really wanted to like them. I even wanted to give their queso a chance. But after one cold taco and a ruined evening due to stomach upset & nausea, I think I am ready to move on. A friend complained of the same happening to him. The taco tasted like the ingredients were straight out of the fridge (and the frozen shrimp freshly thawed from the freezer). I feel like I am being so rough, but that measly cold taco was rough on my stomach. I am now referring to this place as El Frio... ouch!

We got delivery. Small menus can be a plus if done well, We were able to find exactly what we were looking for right away. The food was good but not outstanding, and arrived luke warm. But being it was later on a Friday night we are completely willing to give this spot another chance.

Stumbled upon El Toro while hanging out in Greenpoint on a Sunday afternoon. The space is cute and the service is friendly..oh and the tacos are tasty! We tried three, the pescado, a refreshing grilled fish with tasty cabbage toppings, the tasty chicken mole and the carnitas spicy pork, not too spicy but well seasoned..4 stars across the board. I'm hoping to make it here again to try the roasted corn taco and some of the soups!

This is easily one of the best delivery/fast food Mexican joints in the area. Sure, there's Molé and Mesa Coyacoan, but if you want something quick and cheap, this place is all that, AND super delicious at the same time. I love the $2 happy hour( 4-7 M-Th) tacos. Wish they still had the pork tacos. They got rid of it for some reason!? And the way they do their Burritos. Any kind is $7, and they lightly grill them. Oh, so great! The few times I've had them for delivery, they were really fast. I think I usually call off peak though, so I can't fully vouch. Also, they are really nice people, and easy to talk to. They sure make the food fast! One time they forgot our order while we were there, but it was super busy; they were having a private party, and were about to shut out regular traffic from sitting. They fixed it with some delicious free Horchatas! Killer!

Been getting a burrito here for a long time, and it is one of the better places around at a reasonable price. My complaint is that recently they decided they are a table service place, which is ridiculous. It's not like you get a real plate and silverware. Really the only thing that is changed is now it is harder to find napkins, less convenient to pay, and you feel like you have to leave a substantial tip as if you were at a real restaurant. Clearly it is not a change done with the customer in mind. No thanks, I'm done, rather go to Calexico if that is how it is going to be.

I want to make it work, I do. But I can't. It's not me, it's you. Ordered a bunch of tacos/enchiladas from here and I was left confused. The worst of it: Breakfast Taco. An odd choice, I'll agree, but it was early in the day and there should be nothing on a restaurant's menu that sucks as much as this did. A couple of chunks of hardboiled egg and some pickled onions. So bad. The best of it: Chicken Mole Enchilada. The best mole sauce I have ever had and I could not get enough. Had so many subtle nuances of flavor, but the whole thing was super tiny. All of the portions were super tiny. I like to eat my tacos single-wrapped, with the second tortilla on my plate to catch the inevitable spill of filling and act as a bonus taco. This did not occur. In fact, my single-wrapped taco left me with several dry bites. This is a taco tragedy.

If I was walking around and had my pick of neighborhood fare would I walk into El Toro and have a taco? Nope, not at all. How about a few beers in at home after work and ordering from the comfort of my apartment nearby? Yes, indeed-i-ly do. Plus the star allocation also changes if I'm eating with someone from the west coast because then I'm forced to hear their bitching about how "We don't know anything about good Mexican" and how I have to try from this super secret taco truck only their cross dressing uncle ted knows about. Thats happened to everyone right? Right?

Delivery was fast. As for the food, a big meh. We had the queso (underwhelming), the taco pescado (gross), and the coreano quesadilla (definitely the best of the three, but still not that great). Overall, I'd suggest Mesa Coyacan or Taco Chulo

I stopped in for a quick bite. Cool little shop, very cheap. I ordered a Chorizo Taco and a Roasted Corn Taco. The tacos came out quickly, the corn tortillas are heated on a grill at the counter. Both were pretty similar with some purple onion type deal on it with some cheese, sauce, and a lime. I wasn't a huge fan of the roasted corn, but I guess I was expecting more than just... roasted corn. That was my bad. The chorizo was much better. It came in a spicy red oil type deal. The meat was minced/shredded and had a nice flavor to it. I would definitely order the chorizo and skip the corn on the next trip.

VERY DIRTY! All the tables and chairs were dirty. There was a film of dirt on two of the seats I wiped off. Maybe the tables were so dirty because they don't give you a try or plate, so you've got 3-4 little paper cups holing one taco in each. I looked around and all the tables & chairs had pieces of food/crumbs on them. Floor was the same way. About 2 teaspoons of grease ran out of my ground beef taco. Chicken mole taco was great, but who cares because it was so dirty in there I'll never go back. Before I left, I told the two workers how dirty it was in there. They didnt seem to care and were annoyed.

Based on the reviews, it seems like if you EAT IN the food is pretty good. I ordered from here today and the food arrived quickly, but it was cold. And the guacamole was brown. The chicken mole tacos seem like they have the potential to be pretty tasty if they were actually hot. Cold corn tortillas are unappetizing.

Super good and most of the prices are really cheap. They have a backyard also and it's BYOB!

Burritos are only $6 and they're phenomenal. Definitely recommend the chicken burrito. They grill the tortilla on both sides so it has structure and is delicious and crispy. The employees at this location are some of the nicest people I've interacted with in my life. Always nice and helpful, cool people. Affordable Mexican food, great vibes, BYOB, Cholula on the tables, it's a dream. I go too often.

I used to really love this place, but I feel like the food has really gone downhill in the past few months-sad but true. Everyone who works there is super nice, but I feel like the food just isn't what it used to be. *Update* The food is back on par and everyone who works there is still super nice-especially the chick who works at the register.
