After a very sentimental Mariano Rivera Day at Yankee Stadium and dinner down the street at Emilia's (review to follow!) we went to De Lillo's for dessert. We were accompanied by friends who are dedicated Yankee fans and came from Oklahoma to see the game and see Mariano ( and Metallica!) They had cheesecake, I had my favorite, pignoli cookies, we also had eclairs, red velvet cake and cappuccinos. (They also have gelato and ices.) Service was fine, place is nice, clean and spacious. Really enjoyed it and will come back next time we are at the Stadium.

Yummy gelato...pistachio and chocolate. Good lemob Italian ices too. Top it off with espresso and cappuccino.

De Lillos might just have the best coffee ever! It's strong and doesn't need sugar. The shop is arranged very cutely, with the various pastries looking amazing in their display area. They also sell Italian candies, gelato, and various other wares. Canolli was very good, although not the best in the neighborhood, perhaps because they sit in the display area with the cream already filled. My girlfriend really loves the chocolate canolli. I definitely come back when I need my coffee and look forward to trying more.

I'm not big on sweets but my daughter is in love with their fudge brownies. I go to sip god strength double espressos in the AC and blended iced cappuccinos done to perfection on muggy dog days of NY summer.

Yes, 5 stars. To me pastries can only come from one place- De Lillos. The new space is nice and big and the pastries are always fresh. Sfogliatelle are my absolute favorite thing and they make the best ones here. The cannoli, rainbow cookies, Napoleon, eclairs, etc are all delicious. The holidays or parties = buying a giant box of mini pastries and enjoying!!

This is another of Arthur Ave's mediocre pastry shops. Nothing is that bad, but nothing that good either. From cookies to cappuccino, every time I get something from here I'm underwhelmed. The best you can do is get a cannoli from Madonia, and a cappuccino from Cafe al Mercato. But steer clear of the pastry shops, and if they're your thing than take a trip out to Brooklyn. You'll see what I mean.

Nice little bakery. Good selection of treats. The staff is nice enough but the patrons are rude so beware

Jennifer S., Lori N., and I spontaneously stopped in for a sweet treat. It was quite a great fortune that they had delicacies of all sizes; we opted for the smaller ones and shared. Jennifer S.'s rainbow cake was divine, probably one of the best I've ever had. It was a perfect balance of fluffy, almond-y, and sweet. I also really liked my chocolate-chocolate cannoli. Everything was so fresh! This spot is definitely popular, so finding seating might be difficult. I got two cannolis for $2.33 (incl. tax). Suffice it to say, these prices are much better than most spots in Manhattan for lots of reasons!

Decently good pastry shop with outdoor seating in the Bronx's Little Italy. I had a cannoli, the husband had hazelnut gelato, and our dog had a mini creampuff. Everything was good (but I've had better cannoli, sorry). Our iced cappuccinos were good, too. We had a relaxing time. Service was a bit spotty which was surprising because it wasn't very busy. All in all a nice spot.

Great strawberry ice cream cake! But the chocolate mousse was on the sweet side for us. But overall great bakery

De Lillos Pastry shop was delightful! I couldn't possibly just chose one so ordered a selection of mini's - chocolate cannoli with vanilla filling, eclair, and rainbow cookie. The rainbow cookie was the BEST rainbow cookie I've ever had. The other two were also excellent, but the rainbow cookie stole the show! Go and be merry :).

Was here on Saturday w/ mom: Me: cappuccino & cannoli Mom: cappuccino & fruit pie Cappuccino was good the cannoli cream was great but the shell was too thick & not as crispy as it could've been. Moms fruit pie was great. We bought some Regina cookies & Sfogliatella to go. Both were great.

Mmm!! I've been to a great number of Italian pastry shops and this one was spot on with their pastries! Got the eclair, almond tart, and mini chocolate shell cannoli. All were great in flavor; not too heavy, nice and flavorful in each way. Very nice job; I will definitely return here and recommend this place to my foodie friends and family.

  • Philip G.

The absolute best Italian Pastries you will ever taste. The spfolidels are great. They even sell them frozen so you can bake them at home. Great selection of chocolates during the holidays. During the summer the Italian ices are a must have.

  • Monique D.

This is my spot! Everything is fresh and good no matter when I go. There's never a wait. The bathroom is clean. (Always a good sign) you can tell the owners are passionate. It lacks diversity but still an awesome spot! I've only purchased cookies and slices. I'm looking forward to buying a cake.

  • Dana P.

In fairness to this place I did not have anything to eat. The reason for this is because the waitress couldn't be bothered. When I arrived, it wasn't busy. Then the place started filling up with large parties. After waiting for about a half hour and watching others being served before us, we left. Service stinks. And wouldn't bother to try again.

  • Samantha P.

Such yum! Stopped in here for a delicious cannoli and cappuccino on a Saturday afternoon; the place was packed with families having a post-lunch dessert/picking up pastries to go. I grew up in a very Italian area of northern NJ but currently live in the Bay Area, where there's an unfortunate shortage of authentic Italian bakeries and restaurants. After scarfing down my pastry, I excitedly snagged a few pink leaf and rainbow sprinkle cookies to go - ahh, childhood. Their sfogliatelle (my gram's favorite) and chocolate shell cannoli also seemed popular and well-reviewed. The only downside was the significant lack of waitstaff - the employees exclusively tended to the larger parties and straight up ignored me and the party of 2 to my left. Way quicker to go up to the counter to order/pay (and pick up more cookies, of course).

I always make my way here after a day on Arthur for my daily dose of espresso and sweet tooth craving. They have the freshest pastries and the cafe is always perfect. Stop in if you are in the area and you will not be disappointed

  • Joe B.

If you want a GREAT Cannoli, and great coffee, go to De Lillos Pastry Shop. It was very good. The other pastries were good as well, but the Cannolis were great. The pies were very good as well.

  • Michele D.

Been coming to this place for 3 years so far. I cannot suggest what to order because everything is so delicious, from their homemade muffins to their delicious and well decorated cakes. Their sweet ice cappuccino in the summer just rocks! The best ice cappuccino ever invented on earth! If you're around the neighborhood don't miss the chance to stop by this place and have a nice coffee time or order some sweets to go because this place never disappoints you!

  • Nicole P.

I've been to a lot of Italian pastry shops, but DeLilo takes the cannoli! I went to DeLilo's with my Italian Grandmother and we absolutely loved it. I had an eclair and she had a cannoli and we each got iced lattes. The pastries were some of the best I ever had and the lattes were spot on. The service was also great. The staff was helpful and friendly. We really enjoyed our experience and I will definitely be back!

I grew up in the Belmont section of the Bronx. Arthur Avenue was my playground. After moving to the burbs I still returned to do my shopping. I now live in Denver, Colorado, and though I love it here the only thing I truly miss about NY is Belmont and De Lillos sfogliatelle! It is a must whenever I go back East. Their pastries and Italian cheesecakes are the best in the world. Wish I had some RIGHT NOW!

  • Donald C.

My favorite pastry shop on Arthur Ave is now De Lillo's. So, for pastries go here, for deli go to Tino's, for dinner go to Michaelangelo's. We got Cannoli to go after a great dinner at M Angelo's. We also got biscotti to go and we got some other stuff too. I mean, we had a long drive down the Jersey Turnpike to the airport the next day and if the car broke down, I sure didn't want to starve to death. The workers are nice, the desserts are in bright, clean display cases, and the cannoli and biscotti and whatever else we got are great. Stop in here after a big dinner. You'll find something you like, guaranteed.

Up all night! Asked for decaf. Double-confirmed decaf. Got caffeine! Might be good pastries, but service is terrible! Why don't any of the young women smile?! Are they too good since moving into fancy place?

  • William C.

i was looking for something similar to my astoria and bay ridge cafes. so, this was recommended by a friend of mine. while the seating wasnt as comfortable, it still had the right look and OH OH OH so the right selection of pastries and teas. thank you de lillos, for destroying yet ANOTHER brooklyn stereotype of the bronx. =)

    (4)
  • Margaret C.

Not the best bakery on Arthur Ave, but if you are looking for a place to stay and eat something there its a good choice because there is a lot of seating. I was not thrilled with the service. I took my parents there and we sat down and waited about 10 minutes for someone to cone over to our table. The woman sweeping up had to ask us if we were being served. She did a great job taking our order but one of the 3 other waitresses should have come to take care of us sooner. The pastries we got were ok, but I've had better in Arthur. My cappuccino was ok, but again, not the best I've had on Arthur. Overall, if I were looking for a sit down experience like this, I would chose Palombo's over De Lillo's in the future.

  • Jeff G.

Although this place seemed to be nice. They can really express a bad attitude and can be really grumpy. On top of that, they are way overpriced. Few cookies, coffee and a water can easily cost you over $25. I am only giving this place a star because of the location and the decor, other than that it sucks!

    (1)
  • Jen M.

Cute interior. Big selection of cookies and desserts to pick from. The only ding I give this place (and I know aesthetics are important) but damn, please label the cookies. I don't know one cookie from the next so I spent too long pointing and asking. It would have been much easier to read the names of the cookies had they been available. Many other pastry shops in the area label their stuff. The chocolate cannoli with chocolate cream was good. Service was good. I bought a pound of mixed cookies for $14.

    (4)
  • Derek B.

I'm giving this 4 stars but I have a feeling that after a few more visits this place could either go up or down a star...not sure yet. My argument for 5 stars would be based on the rainbow cookies. We got the raspberry ones (wasn't even aware of apricot ones when asked to choose, and will probably try them next time) and they were perfect. Super moist and rich with that perfect trademark taste of rainbow cookies that I still can't put my finger on. These are the best I've ever had, granted I've only been aware of their existence for about 2 years now. The argument for 3 stars falls with the eclair and cannoli we tried. Both were kind of blah. Nothing special here in a place where staples like this should be special. Lots of stuff here looked really good, so there is a good chance that I'll visit again and revise this review.

  • Jack A.

DeLillo recently renovated their interior and for atmosphere and cleanliness, this place gets high marks. The pastries and cappuccinos are solid, no complaints, but I must admit they lack the extra special something that some of the Italian pastry shops in Brooklyn have. The staff is fine and I find that the crowd really makes this place pop. On any given day, you will witness a varied clientele, from flashy young couples, college kids from Fordham to Westchester families revisiting their old Bronx roots, sipping Espressos and munching cannoli.

  • Jack Straw S.

As a kid growing up in this neighborhood you had some amazing italian pastry options. You had De Lillos and Egidio. Both are amazing and have been part of my family and up bringing. My grandmother liked De Lillos and my grandfather liked Egidio. Anyway I go to De Lillos for Eclair's and Neapolitan pastry's. The neighborhood is shrinking but it is still home because of places like De Lillos.

  • Kristine S.

Love the Italian ice! "Leave the gun, take the cannoli."

Not too bad, but not what I expected. Cannoli was bleh at best and the éclair was terrible.

  • Giselle R.

This is the type of old school bakery you go to Arthur Ave. for. They just opened a few doors down from their old location but you're still getting the same baked goods you'e been getting for forty years.Just recently went Christmas weekend and the line was up the block. Consistency, tradition. And really....can you ever have enough cannollis or sfogliatelle?

    (4)
  • Rich J.

My favorite pastry shop in the Arthur Ave area...everything here is great...cookies, cannolis, all the other pastries, the coffee...I recommend going here if this is your first time on Arthur Ave.

  • Tyler L.

This is a nice little Italian cafe near Arthur Avenue in the Bronx. It's a great place to sit down with a coffee or cappucino with some Italian pastries. There is ample seating inside as well as outdoor seating - great on a nice, summer day. Inside, you will see cases with lots of different stuff like cannolis, lobster tails, gelato, sfogliatelle, rainbow cookies, and eclairs. The staff are also very friendly and engaging.

    (4)
  • Anastasia E.

De Lilos recently moved into a larger space right around the corner from their previous location. This location is much more inviting and you now have room to move around and check out all the yummy pastries. As for the pastries, they are absolutely delicious. Real deal Italian pastries. Oh and the restroom is always clean just in case you need it.

    (4)
  • Lauren M.

The cookies here are fresh and yummy. The batter has a nice flavor and they aren't too dry or chewy. The street side patio was full of espresso drinking smokers- which is actually quite charming because it reminded me of Europe. Will definitely go back!

  • Michelle E.

Losing their sparkle... There was something amazing from this place before it moved to the elaborate place it is in now. It had that small, cozy feel. Everything was sure to be fresh and there was genuine care in the items that were made. I have been in here a few times in the last week and the items don't look or taste as fresh as they had in the past. I don't know if it's because it's difficult to stock a store of its size or if there was a change of pastry chefs, but it lacks that luster that Delillo had once had. I usually love their cannoli and napolean cakes, but the cannoli cream lacked the rich creaminess and the napolean cream seemed less creamy and almost translucent. When you know something is fresh (like zeppole during San Giuseppe) then you will surely get a wonderful treat, but head in on a random day and you're taking a chance.

  • Marelle C.

DeLillos is definitively my favorite bakery in the Belmont area. I've had too many of their options to count, but the pignoli, cannoli, chocolate covered strawberries, and rum baba are my personnel favorites. The cappuccino and hot chocolate are a great way to wash it all down. The atmosphere is pleasant, and you can even sit outside on a nice Summer night. I knocked a star off due to the service. The wait staff is nice, but their relaxed approach can be annoying at times. It's nice to just sit back and enjoy with friends, but after they bring you're deserts, they rarely come back to check on you. Paying the bill can thus be frustrating and take way longer than it needs to.

Okay, this review is solely based on their lattès. Disclaimer: I'm no coffee expert or anything of the sort either. I like my coffee or lattè sweet and strong, usually for a big study session or just to do extensive work. Delillo's has not failed me yet. I honestly prefer their hot beverages than their cold - the flavor is much more rich in the former than the latter. It's around $6 for a large lattè. Well, worth it for the quality and taste too. They have a wide variety for sweets and snacks as well as ice cream (never tried any of them). The only downside in my opinion is that you need a $10 credit card limit. If you're a card person and rarely have any cash on you then you might wanna stop by an ATM before coming here.

  • Jennifer P.

The rainbow cookies here are on point! If you are in the area then go get some and try the affogato it will change your life if you haven't had one and if you grew up on them like me then you will say this is a great one. The service is phenomenal and they are always checking to make sure you are pleased. I cannot wait to hit this place up for an affogato and some cookies. My uncle used to go here all the time.

Delisious almond paste crossient, so delightful with the almond paste, delicately sweetened, and almond halves covering with a hint of honey. Perfect capcinno with toppings on the table, cinnamon, and chocolate powder! The atmosphere is airy, and roomy! Always a treat!

If you're going to go to an Italian bakery/cafe in the Bronx's Little Italy, go with DeLillo. Located right off Arthur Ave on E 187th Street, DeLillo gives off a casual vibe while still maintaining it's classic Italian decor and dessert offerings. There's a lot to look at in DeLillos, the counter is huge and the display cases are chock full of cookies, cakes, and pastries. Seating is ample and they have waitress service which I appreciated. The pastries are solid here, their cannoli have a hint of cinnamon in them which is refreshing and their rainbow cookies are very tasty. The clientele is a nice mix of locals, college kids, and tourists which adds to the charm. It's certainly not the end-all-be-all of Italian bakeries in NYC but is a great casual place to go for a cappuccino and pastry.

I came here after eating a moundful of food at an Italian restaurant nearby and trying the awesome mozzarella next door. And I can't stop thinking about the sesame cookie!!! If it hadn't been for the friendly staff allowing me to sample a cookie for free, I would have never tasted such a glorious, dreamy cookie. If you like those Asian sesame encrusted desserts but also appreciate Italian sweets, this is the cookie for you. In fact, this is the best original cookie I ever ate!! For only $12, you get a pound of high quality, amazing cookies. Believe me, you'd want to order two pounds the next time around because as the staff said, it tastes just as good five days later or even up to two to three weeks in a air tight container. By the way, if you're wondering about the cannoli, they offer it in two sizes, small and large and in two flavors, original and chocolate. Considering how I ate it three hours later, the tube shaped shells were still pretty crunchy and the creams tasted fresh. You can imagine how much better they would have been if you ate them right then and there.

  • A.E. G.

It's pretty bad when I would prefer the pastries of "Little Italy" but that was sadly the case here. For example, the cannoli cream was rock-hard and lacked the light flavor of a good cannoli. It's not worth journeying here, unless your real purpose is to purchase an Arthur Ave. t-shirt.

Pleasant place, quality pastries. Sfogliatelle and the pignoli cookies were very good. And the bathrooms are very clean!

This week, I learned two things about DeLillos Pastry Shop: firstly, that it was/is author and my fellow Fordham grad Don DeLillo's parent's bakery, and secondly, that I've been in love with their canoli cake for nearly two and a half years. For the first revelation, I have Yelp to thank. For the second, I happened to ask my good friend Marc where he had been buying birthday cakes for various parties from since January of 2007. For some reason, I had gotten the idea that the amazing canoli cake I have pining for was from some secret and obscure bakery only Marc knew about, from Pelham, or Pelham Bay... I was so very very wrong. It was all so unnecessary: the poorly frosted birthday canoli cake from Palombo's, the gaudily attired Mother's day tiramisu cake from Gino's, the horrible book club selection of Mao II... so much trial and error, and all along the cake I wanted was just a few blocks further west. While DeLillo's canoli cake is like, my soulcake, the confectionary equivalent of the literary White Noise, the rest of their selections could very well be half baked Mao IIs, so I'm going to withhold that fifth star until I've sampled a larger variety of products. But hot damn. So excited that I know where the canoli cake of my dreams is baked. Thank you Marc, Mike, and Marianne!

  • Aubrey C.

The atmosphere is nonexistent, but the pastries are great. Specifically the mini cannolis--the ratio of filling to shell is divine, and the filling is very very good. I recommend the chocolate dipped one, of course. The full sized cannolis are also terrific, but huge. For everything outside of the food, I'd be hard-pressed to give this place more than 2 stars. But the pastry quality is top notch, and the prices are low. A good place to pick up some dessert after dinner on Arthur Ave.

  • Valery C.

Charming, cramped, brightly lit pastry shop. Small selection of gelato up front, then a long glass case along one side with lots of pastries, cookies, and cakes. Came after dinner, had a latte and sfogliatella, a flaky ricotta pastry shaped like a lobster tail. Latte is fine. Pastry is ok but nothing special. Will try elsewhere for comparison; I like the flakiness and that it's not sweet, but can't help feeling it should be much better than the one I had here.

Very nice neighborhood cafe and pastry shop. Great selection of Italian treats, and right around the corner from some of the best foodie stops on the East coast.

First of all, to that great mass of Bronx-bound humanity familiar with Don Delillo and his background, yes, this is his parents' bakery and, according to the cashier, it's still in the family and no, he you won't run into him if you stop by (he hasn't been since his parents died, I'm told), but you might stop by if you're already in the area. Luckily, the De Lillo Pastry Shop (not sure why they spell it differently) is unlike a Delillo novel in that it doesn't make you feel like a zombie consumer in a paranoid, death worshipping society. The sentences on the menu are generally confined to one line and make no references to funerary rituals. And when you bite into the amaretti, you don't feel like you're not quite understanding what the baker has to say, possibly because his message is too complex to be conveyed with almond paste, vanilla extract, and a container of Crisco. The similarities disappoint more than the differences: who cares if Mao II's plot was somewhat loose and insubstantial, but imbue those qualities in taralli, and you've got a bit of a disaster. Sure, it's cool that the Body Artist is as empty as it is beautiful, but you want your cannoli to have some tasty filling. And no one minds that Cosmopolis is a rip-off of Ulysses, but when your gelato just makes you think of how great some other gelato you once had was, things get a bit problematic. And, for some reason, they had two TVs and a radio on, all at the same time. White noise, anyone? I guess the bottom line is this: it's cool to come here and bask, if you're into that, but there's got to be better places to spend your time and money. For example, I hear there's a Pynchon's Pizzeria down the block.

Great for dessert after a trip to Arthur Ave ... if you have room. Love the strawberry shortbread.

  • Ashleigh S.

Absolutely amazing. Lucky for me, I live right in the Arthur Ave. area so I've had the opportunity to sample a great deal of the bakeries - De Lillos blows them all away. Fresh pastries for breakfast, delicious cookies and baked goods all day, gelatto, the list goes on and on and makes my mouth water just typing it. Have ordered cakes from here as well. You get a pretty good size cake cheap and its much better quality than you'd get anywhere else.

  • Blondie M.

The cannolis, eclairs and Napoleans are to die for. I was directed here by a nice little old Italian lady who firmly insisted the best cannolis could be found in this narrow space. They sell so many they don't fill them in front of you-but it doesn't matter, these cannolis still crunch since they haven't been sitting around. If you bring the giant, submarine-sized eclairs to a housewarming party you will be the hero. If you keep them to yourself you will be the greediest, naughtiest (but happiest) little piggy ever. Oink oink!

Really nice bakery with very nice service. I had the Cannoli and it was delicious! The Belmont community feels comfortable here, so I felt it too.

De Lillos started my first trip to Arthur Avenue off on the right foot. Being a snowy (in late March?!) Wednesday morning, the shop was fairly empty. The woman at the counter was very attentive, taking our order efficiently. Thankfully, my friend's parents gave us recommendations for what to order. Otherwise, the long counters filled with delicious-looking treats would have been too over-whelming. My friend and I each had a large cappuccino and two pine nut cookies. The cappuccino hit the spot -- warm and strong with a nice milk froth. The pine nut cookies do not look like much -- but they are delicious. Firm but chewy cookies covered in toasty pine nuts with just the right amount of sweetness to go nicely with our coffee. We also purchased a pound of Savoiarde cookies to bring home for my friend's parents. I snuck one of these, and they are delicious. Again, they don't look like much -- almost potato-like and white. Sometimes they seem to be confused for Lady Fingers. They have a nice crunch to them with a light sweetness. My friend explains they are best slightly stale and dunked in a cup of coffee. I'm looking forward to enjoying just that tomorrow morning.

This little pastry shop is quite a find. They have a wide selection of deserts and coffee. Me and my friend shared both the Napoleon and the blueberry cheesecake. They were both delicious. I had a cappuccino which was also good. The service was also good here and so I would recommend it if you are up in the Bronx.

We got the "lobster tail" and cannoli. I thought they were both mediocre. The cannoli tasted old and the lobster tail was filled with bland whipped cream. Won't be back.

Best chocolate ganache! Just ordered a cake for a party and the guests raved about it.

This was a good clean place for a break. The pastry was good but not stellar. The berry tart a friend got was at least a few days old and had been in the chilled section so was not as nice as it could be. My tea was just a tea bag in hot water but my friend said the coffee was good. Service was very nice.

Wow! They moved 2 a bigger place recently...thank u. This bakery has always been 1 of my fav places 2 go around Arthur ave. Their prices cld be better but still so worth it. I LOVE LOVE LOVE :0) their rainbow cookies. And the coffee is so flavor full w/a great caffeine kick. They also make some really pretty cakes.

De Lillos moved pretty recently. I really like their new space. It's pretty and inviting. I've gotten baked goods to go, but I haven't had the opportunity to sit and relax yet. I look forward to doing so soon. Overall, their pastries are very nice. I've never gotten a whole cake to go yet. I plan to. So far, they are my second favorite bakery in Belmont (Gino's is my favorite). This is a bit off topic, but how do all of those bakeries survive being in such close proximity to each other?

Very good cookies, unwelcoming staff, somewhat pricey. We were confused as customers what to do when we came in. I now assume that you seat yourself wherever there is space and a waitress will help you if you are eating in. No one greeted us so we ordered at the counter and they wrapped it all to go, then we ordered our coffee at the other counter and they seemed confused that we were trying to talk to them and told us to sit down and brought it to us when it was ready. My mom and I shared some cookies and a turnover. I was disappointed that there weren't ,more actual pastries. I had been craving for something like a croissant or danish and there is no such thing here. Everything we had was very good though. My mother didn't like her cappuccino because it comes unsweetened and you add the sugar. I've had this before so I know it was a properly prepared product. Although excellent, I thought everything was a bit expensive. We ended up spending about $25 on 1 pastry, 2 cappuccinos ($5 each) and some cookies(a few for there and a few left to take home probably about 10 total).

Great Italian pastry shop that delivers excellent pastries. If you're in Bronx, do make a trip to this shop.

We had passed by De lillo Pastry shop the first time. The long line of people stretching outside the shop intrigued us. "Should we go in", I asked? "Seems like a madhouse in there." An elderly lady folding a stroller agreed with us, as she debated the same. Frank was determined to pack in as much as possible into the evening and so pushed the door open. Inside the shop we realized that the line was due to the people who were getting the house gelato located near the entrance of the pastry shop, an operational bottleneck. We walked in and sidestepped the people looking for ice cream. As we surveyed the display of pastries (napoleans, éclairs, tarts, custard filled babas, etc.), nothing really captured our fancy. Realizing that it might be due to the consumption of desserts at two different pastry shops in the past few hours, we decided instead in favor of pizza and to forget about dessert. Well, not really. I had merely filed De Lillo away in my mind. And so, after dinner when I suggested that we go back to De Lillo, Ms. Piggie was somewhat aghast. Wait! You're not really serious are you? I was, as she realized. But, then I've been raised with the philosophy of "no meal's complete until dessert" - and technically dessert before the meal, doesn't count. :) As we entered the pastry shop again, we saw many references inside to being the highest rated pastry shop on Zagat. Frankly, I don't remember seeing as many signs inside a shop as we did at De Lillo's! As we perused the selection again, I decided to try the cannoli and compare them to the day's other two options (lending some structure of the dessert expedition). Additionally, I asked the server to help me with a few cookies, purely for research. "It's amusing how you order desserts", Ms. Piggie laughed, "Give me half a pound of this, another pound of that, a pound of those". 'Tis true. I do my bit to stimulate the economy. The cannoli was pre-filled. However, the shell had not become soggy and retained its crispiness. Still, it paled in comparison to the cannoli at Madonia for the filling simply wasn't as memorable. Of the cookies I brought home I liked the Rainbow cookie (layered marzipan cookie covered in chocolate and filled with raspberry marmalade) which was softer and more moist (much that I hate the use of the word in a culinary context) than the Tri-color cookie, the sliced Amaretti (almond paste cookie covered in almonds), and the Chocolate Almond bar but not so much the Savoiardi (cinnamon and vanilla flavored meringue biscotti), Anginetti (lemon flavored biscotti covered in icing), and the Carcagnoli (chocolate hazelnut meringue biscotti). I've often pondered over the reason why, given their obvious skill and craft, Italian bakeries have struggled to get their due respect for the complexity and diversity in offering. My theory is that it's all in the name. Seriously, try pronouncing Savoiardi, Anginetti, and Carcagnoli in quick succession. Now, say: Sfogliatella, Sacrapantina, Zabaglione. Compare this with: Oreo, cupcake, brownie, pie, fro-yo... Capice? Shakespeare was wrong about "What's in a name?" Branding is everything :)

This place is awesome. Red Velvet Cake, Lobster Tails, Chocolate Layer Cake, Vanilla Cappuccino = favorites They have cases and cases full of delicious pastries, pies, cakes and cookies - you could really get yourself into trouble here. Prices are very reasonable, interior is warm/relaxing (very cafe style- soft lighting, hardwood floors, cafe tables/chairs), and they have limited seating out front too. Staff has always been super friendly and helpful. I usually just get things to go here, but have sat down for coffee before too. Great place to stop by when having a sugar craving or for an after dinner dessert/coffee.

Let me preface by saying: I love their canoli. It is my favorite around this part of little Italy. And I was going to give them 5 stars. Unfortunately, I can't agree with their business tactics. I have been charged 1.00, 1.25, and even 2.00 for their mini canoli. I asked them about that, and the worker told me it depends on the time of day. I don't know how much of this is true versus how much I look like a tourist, but I am working out here for a month and don't appreciate it at all. I guess there aren't price tags for a reason.

I never leave Arthur avenue without stopping at De Lillo's. It is in the blood. Pops used to go there on Saturday mornings some 40+ years ago and I go there too. Consistently great., they are the real deal , run by Italians for everyone to enjoy. The sfogliatelle are always, fresh , crisp and flavorful. They have recently moved 2 doors down and expanded operations. Better than ever Don't let the other pastry shops, and flashy storefronts fool you ! This is the pastry shop that sets the bar for Little Italy in the Bronx. For more pictures and thoughts check out my blog entry at : lovearoundtheisland.com/…

I came here for a double espresso and cannoli. Fantastic! I sat outside and enjoyed the Spring weather. It was a great treat to eat at a true Bronx classic. Everything was fresh and the espresso was strong and delicious! The rest rooms were clean. This is a great place!

A sweet little cafe. The treats are tasty, and there is plenty of seating both outdoors and in--which is hard to come by in NYC. The coffee wasn't the best I've ever had, but the plentiful seating (where I can study guilt-free) makes up for it in my mind. Espresso, cookies, cakes, cannoli, gelato, italian ice... and it all looks so very tasty! The ambiance is charming (I believe they recently remodeled, and it looks great). No prices posted anywhere. I got an iced latte and a lemon cookie for $5.30.

If you're in the Arthur Avenue area Delillo is a perfectly fine place to stop for a cup of coffee and something 'sweet'. I suspect that many people visit for old times sake. Having said that, their baking is just average. e.g. cookies that should be made with butter are made with shortening. The other main issue, and this goes for the other Italian bakeries in the area, is that product sits on the shelves for days getting stale. They need to bake for the days business. By the end of the day the cases should be empty. For superlative Italian pastry and cookies try one of the Sant Ambroeus locations in Manhattan.

the gelato we sampled was in a word, terrible. way too sweet, worse than mass-manufactured national chain varieties. the chocolate flavored mascarpone chocolate dipped mini cannoli were also way below par (give me Rocco's on Bleecker St. any day over this). the seasonal Halloween mini-custard filled pastries (emblazoned with "BOO!") and covered with white icing were pretty good, and rescued my rating from 1 star to 2. the place was busy on a Saturday afternoon but has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating.

Good pastry shop, but nothing extraordinary. I go here everytime I'm on call at jacobi medical center. It does make my day go by a lot more smoothly. I get the napoleon with cappuccino, both are good. Last time I got a blueberry muffin and I wasn't impressed, not that muffins should impress you! overall, a pleasant place to be, it is not overly crowded or loud, always a table available, and staff is friendly.

My absoulute favorite Bakery on Arthur Ave! In my opinion, the cafe is the nicest place to sit and chat. Friendly staff and chic interior. The pastries are outrageous and the gelato is very good. Most everything I've had here has been fresh.

I don't have much experience with Italian pastry shops being new to new york and the bronx. However, I discovered this place and went back two more times within two weeks of going the first time. I am not a big fan of cannolis but there's hit the spot. I tried both the regular one and the chocolate one. I prefer the regular one and their carrot cake and cappuccino is great. There chocolate fudge cakes are also good, a little too much for me but still good. Lastly, I was not impressed with their hot chocolate it tasted too much like milk and not enough like chocolate. But like I said before overall good pastry shop. And the place is really nice!

Like many of the reviewers on here, I'm a Fordham grad, and thus had a solid four years to sample every cannoli on Arthur Ave. Unlike many of the reviewers here, I conducted similar research project on Mulberry Street. After completing this exhaustive cannoli research, I can say with absolute certainty that the offerings in Manhattan come nowhere near those on Arthur Ave in terms of quality and authenticity, and that De Lillo's stands out on Arthur Ave, where the cannoli is admittedly excellent across the board. De Lillo's offers an number of fantastic desserts, from the fruit topped cheesecake (very dense, obviously a ricotta cheesecake) to the cookies (the chocolate-filled moon-shaped ones are my favorite). Still, many of these victuals are available at other Italian bakeries, and everyone has their loyalties. However, there is one item at De Lillo's that I have never found at any other establishment, and that is the chocolate cannoli. Many other bakeries dip the shell in chocolate, and/or fill the shell with a fluffy, mousse-like chocolate substance that in no way resembles a traditional ricotta cannoli filling. It hurts me that these bakeries try to pull a fast one on the public, many of whom might not realize that this overly sweet confection is an insult to Italian desserts. (It hurts me even more that a fellow reviewer mistakenly tagged De Lillo's cannoli as inauthentic due to the density of its ricotta filling, when just the opposite is true). But anyway. Unlike the aforementioned imposters, De Lillo's takes the honest route with its chocolate cannoli, infusing the delicious ricotta filling with chocolate so that chocoholics like myself can experience the distinctive tang of a truly good, traditional ricotta while taking the edge off the craving. This simply doesn't exist anywhere else, and is 100% worth the trip up to the Bronx. De Lillo's closes at 8pm most nights, so grab an early dinner at Dominick's, Rigoletto's, or Zero Otto Nove and stop on by. The staff has never been anything but incredibly friendly, and the small space is very conducive to eavesdropping on your neighbor's conversation.

Wow! I normally do not care for cake, but this place's chocolate cake (wish I knew what it was specifically) was out of this world! I purchased it for a birthday party and everyone ate their entire piece and raved all night! You never see that. :) The pastries are pretty good too. I really like the 7 layer raspberry filled pastry - think that's the name?! There is plenty of street parking in the area - metered. Not much room inside, a little cramped, but there are a few tables to sit down if you wanted to.

Love...Love...LOVE De Lillos!! I've been coming back and forth for a long time, could never-ever get enough - so many great memories too!! Excellent Service, right down to the most delicious Cannolis that you could possibly give your taste buds the opportunity to be smothered by!! I would highly recommend anyone with the slightest temptation (or doubt!!) to just stop In for the tastiest treats In Little Italy!!

This is the new Palombo for me (and it's located right across the street! How convenient). I always get my friends a cake or something for their birthdays and I ordered cupcakes from this place for a birthday recently... excellent. Unfortunately cupcakes are on a "order" basis. The pastry that they have out on a regular basis are traditional Italian things: tiramisu, cannoli, etc. I haven't had the coffee here yet, but I here good things. I plan on getting all of my baked goods here as long as they keep it up.

I adore De Lillos, and it is now my official duty to bring home pastries for Thanksgiving dessert from this tiny shop. It's a nice walk off the Rose Hill campus, and when it's bitter cold the hot chocolate makes the trek completely worthwhile. The place is run by (I'm assuming) an Italian family, and the woman shoos you away from the counter telling you to pay when you're ready to leave. It's nice just to sit and talk, pacing yourself while you eat any of the many pastry/ice cream/cookie options De Lillos has to offer.

Some of the best tasting pastries in Little Italy, although the place could be a little cleaner. Try their Napoleons and cannolis.
