My absolutely favorite Mexican spot up here. Everyone who knows me knows I'm a Las Mananitas (in Brewster) fan and wouldn't even begin to compare any other Mexican place to it but this comes a close second. My boyfriend loves to bring me here about every other week. The drinks are awesome! And the food is out of this world. Great guacamole that they make table side just how you like it and the carne asada is mouth watering. The decor is very cute and the staff is super friendly.

I've given Avocados several chances to impress me, and each time I've been rather disappointed. My wife is a fan of their vegetarian enchiladas and burritos, so this keeps me coming back on a regular basis (that and the close proximity to our home). Each time I've gone I have attempted a new food item and have yet to find one that I can say I'd like to return for. Tonight I figured I'd return to an old favorite of mine from my Baja Fresh eating days... a fajita burrito with steak (burrito smothered in cheese and sauce - essentially a enchilada burrito). I can easily say that it left me wishing I was eating this food item at the before mentioned chain instead of the current location. The steak was dry and relatively flavorless, and quite sparse within the burrito itself. Such has been the case with other dishes I've ordered off of the menu and with other meats (beef and chicken). To say that this place is all bad wouldn't be fair. I do like their avocado fries for appetizers, and the guac is made fresh at your table (which is something I enjoy), but the good does not outweigh the bad for me in this place. I much prefer other local Mexican spots over this one, but as they say "happy wife, happy life" and if she chooses avocado's, I'll just keep hoping I find some buried treasure in an otherwise lackluster menu

I went here no long ago with my brother and his wife. His wife and I ordered Margaritas which were really good. My brother chose bottled beer. We ordered the breaded and fried avocados as an appetizer. They came with a sweet sauce. My brother didn't care for them, but his wife and I scarfed them up. Yum. We all agreed, the best policy here is to stick to the well know Mexican items on the menu, such as tacos, enchiladas, burritos, and fajitas, My brother's wife had beef enchiladas and she liked them quite well. I had pork carnitas, which I'd never had before, so I didn't know what to expect. I think it was well made but had a spice I'm not used to. That is not the fault of the kitchen, as I took a chance ordering something new. My brother went for the seafood soup and wasn't that thrilled with it.

Found this place while traveling around down the road. The food was exceptional and the service was great. I went with a group of 3 others and not a single person had anything bad to say about this place.

Ordered take out tonight from Avocados and it was horrible. We've been wanting to try this place for a while and finally decided to give it a go. We noticed that their website says that they deliver so that was even better! Unfortunately, they DON'T deliver yet so that was a let down and very misleading. I ordered the chicken chimichanga and when I finally took a whiff.... All I could smell was pizza. Why? Well because there's spaghetti sauce and mozzarella covering them! What the hell??? I wanted MEXICAN not Italian! I can't phrase this any other way so here it is, it sucked and I'm never going back there again :)

Go to cafe maya for good food and bad service. Come here for bad food and good service. It's a trade off...you decide.

We finally went there after many raves from a friend who loves going there. The food overall was VERY BLAND. Then again, I'm used to authentic Mexican food living in Queens.I think my friend just liked it for the drinks and she was probably drinking too much to taste the food. We went there for lunch and they had a pretty extensive lunch menu for under $10. chili con carne- very thick, tons of meat, no spice, very bland. chips and salsa (complimentary)- very nice, the salsa was the only thing that had a kick to it. corn soup- I picked it thinking it was a chowder but it was just a milky bland liquid. I tasted nothing but milk and cheese and tiny bits of corn. It desperately needed some heat and texture! I had to add hot sauce to it. (the hot sauce was also very spicy) chicken and beef flautas- It was OK, once again it needed spices. rice and beans- no flavor at all! chili relleno- once again the stuffing was very bland, although the poblano pepper was nicely toasted. It serves me right to try a Mexican restaurant in upstate!

Decided to try it with husband, on Valentines day - we'd just rec'd another dump of snow. It was great - the food, the service, the red wine I chose. Really nice experience - can't wait to go back! One less star - fireplace is not real, place was uncomfortably chilly. They need a little more actual warmth in the décor and furnishings. I do like the wooden floors, though.

This was our third or fourth time here, and for some strange reason we have sat in the same booth every time yes this has nothing to do with the review just find it odd. The first couple time we were here the food was very good this time it was average at best. We shared the Avocado Sampler and while the Avocado fries were very good the rest was mediocre at best. I've made better quesadilla here at home and my chicken wings are much better (not that I would go to a Mexican restaurant just for their wings. And the nachos were just a mess. For dinner I had the Carne Tempiquena the steak was dry, tough, and simply over cooked. My wife had a chicken dish and she said it was passable at best. Our son had a fajita burrito and he said it was good and to be honest he knows his food so I will take his word on that. The margarita was very good though I don't care for the glass they use for a margarita on the rocks, but that is my issue not theirs. My wife said the sangria was very good. The service was good, food came out at a reasonable pace and our waiter did stay on top of our drinks so all in all it was a good meal, though not great. I do have to say that as far as price goes it was worth what we spent. We will most likely go back at some point.

Service is great, food not so much. Edit: Went back a 3rd time and food was much improved!

if you want good Mexican food in a lively atmosphere, skip this place and head over to Cafe Maya, the food here is bland and boring, the tomato sauces taste borderline Italian (seriously?!). the famous avocado fries are good but not good enough to make me come back...service is good, did get a good buzz out of the margarita but the iced tea was more brown water than tea

Whoever said this place was better than Cafe Maya you are out of your MIND. By you saying that, I'm going to assume you were either drunk, you've been conditioned to going there for years and are mentally brainwashed, or you have friends, family or connections there... Anyway. First started with an appetizer, a chicken quesadilla. First bite into it and I was saddened. There was N O F L A V O R whatsoever. None. It was like they just put shredded chicken, put cheese and slapped in on a tortilla. Added heat. Not one seasoning was used. Not a grain of pepper, or a grain of salt. A pepper, an onion, a shred of lettuce, a bean, no nothing. Next, I ordered a drink, everyone ordered drinks. Mine hadn't came when everyone else's did. Okay I'll wait, no problem . It's busy, I'm not mad.... But An ACTUAL half an hour passed we have now been here about an hour & 10 minutes. No drink. Someone had ordered ANOTHER drink and mine hadn't came. I wasn't even going to say anything and just forget it, but a friend stopped a waitress and then another 10 minutes I got a drink. The food comes for about 8/11 people... Not one word of "mm this is really good!" Everyone's faces were somewhat disappointed after have being in the restaurant for about 2 hours now mingling and such, we're pretty hungry. The food was something you just eat because you're hungry, it's in front of you, and you paid for it. It was again, very very bland. Enchiladas. No seasonings whatsoever seemed to be involved. None. Many people at my table ended up trashing half their meals, asking if anyone else would like some?. Declined. now the other 3 people waiting for their crappy food. Some never came until it was time to leave. One cancelled there order saying "I just don't even want it anymore. I'm not hungry, it's late, it's been 2 hours and I'm done" Another ended up sharing a large burrito with their friend, they again were disappointed and declined their actual meal when it came out. The last person took their meal, because she was very hungry and had only a light lunch that day. What do ya know. She AGAIN was disappointed by the food. They offered her meal for free. The ONLY thing worth returning to this place for is the drinks. That. Is. It. You need a slap in the face if you thought this food was satisfactory. You don't pay $15 to sit down somewhere and eat mediocre or below mediocre food. That's absurd. You go to Taco Bell. But in all honesty, no exaggerations, Taco Bell was much better than this. I am not lying. I actually think I need to stop at Cafe Maya or AT LEAST Mole Mole TODAY cleanse my mind of this horrible experience. It's that upsetting.

this is the best Mexican food in this area!! everyone is so nice and i love the interior! the tacos really good. they arent too spicy, and i like that. the chips are always warm and really delicious. the salsa is mild and putting it on the tacos is the finishing touch. the fried ice cream is to die for!!!!!!

Sorry Avocado - I can only give you 3 stars - and that is being generous. While the wait staff is great: friendly, knowledgable and courteous - the food is mediocre. My husband had the chimichangas (chicken and beef), nothing spectacular. I had the seafood enchiladas. The tilapia was good, but hard to find; and the shrimp were small (I realize that's an oxymoron!). Both meals were bland - not bad, but nothing I would rave about. The place was crowded - but I doubt we'll be back. Sorry Avocado, you're located near our home, I would have liked to have written a stronger review.

I'm glad I gave Avacados a second chance. We had gone on Cinco de Mayo and that was a disaster. Last night was much better. Our waitress and waitstaff were perfectly attentive. Not too much and not too little. My son enjoyed his entire combo plate. My brother also ate all of his avocado burrito even though it was the size of a small baby. I had the chicken poblanas. It was three corn tortilla burritos, chicken with mole. All tastey. My only issue was that the sangria I ordered was more like a mixed drink. I'm used to a glass of red wine with some fruit in it. This sangria came in a tumbler and was quite potent. My waitress noticed I didn't enjoy my drink and was nice enough to to not charge me for it. I hadn't complained, just figured I was a light weight. Will return again.

This place sucks! The margaritas are NOT real, they're a mix! The food was dreadful! UsAvocado fries- awful Enchiladas- cheap seafood covered in overbearing sauces to mask blandness. Burrito- put under a salamander and not deep fries as advertised Oh did I mention the margaritas? Tequila and sour mix. The waitress mentioned this to us. If you want quality Mexican food, there's Mole Mole on Main St on Poughkeepsie or Armadillos in Kingston. *Armadillo makes real Margaritas in front of you! No mix!!!

I've visited Avocado for dinner four times now and I never had any complaints hence the four stars. Usually I've gone later after the dinner rush so that may have made a difference but I always had friend and timely service. I don't drink so I can't comment on their bar but the food is pretty good. I agree that the wings aren't that great but I totally dig their Avocado Fries as an appetizer. The last meal I had there were the Choriqueso tacos with Chorizo, Oaxaca cheese and cilantro. I could have used a little extra something in the tacos though, I actually added some of the salsa we got with the nachos but overall it was okay. Not sure if I'll get it (or any other taco dish) again but their burritos are delicious and gigantic (ask for a box to take some home). I also like the Pollo Con Mole, good mole! :) Despite it's bright appearance, Avocado seems more low key than other Mexican restaurants where they beat you over the head with super loud music and mariachi singing, no thanks!

The food was tasty, but the service was spotty. The ambiance was ok, for a real Mexican meal I recommend Cafe Maya in Fishkill.

Had the Carne Salad tonight - the steak was absolutely delicious! Sat in the bar area, Dulce, the bartender was a wonderful hostess! I really love the ambiance here and hope that others join me for happy hour - Friday and Saturday from 3-5PM = 2 for one margaritas and wine, $3 tequila shots. Have the wings. Oh, have the wings! What great flavors are in those wings! Generous portion for a $5 appetizer during happy hour!

The service was great. I have frequented here a few times and the food hasn't disappointed. The fajitas are great. All the food I have tasted was fresh and tasty. Enjoy. If you want a good Mexican dinner, please try this place.

What to say??? It was the best Mexican experience I have had in quite some time..The food was very good and the drinks were very good... Service was slow..Just one waitress working the floor when we were there..Granted it was 5pm on a Monday before the dinner rush began..That being said the service was very attentive when it came... The food was 5 star for sure and I am willing to bet, that once the dinner rush begins, the service would be 5 star.. I would recommend this restaurant for anyone wanting a good Mexican experience
