After a long day of motorcycle riding we randomly exited the interstate to get gas. Across the street was a non descript pizzeria -Gappy's. The smell wafting across the road was amazing. So we went in. The place is nothing special in decor, it had a bustling dinner crowd, and the staff were pleasant. Paper napkins and paper place mats covered the tables, and the floor was mostly swept. The waiter brought some bread, a non descript loaf that didn't look like anything special...but don't judge a book by its cover...it was hot, crusty, and light...delicious! The menu was exactly as one would expect in a place like this, typical selections and reasonable prices. I had a meatball parmesan sandwich....generous tasty meatballs on that same delicious bread. It wasn't soggy so the sandwich feel apart, yet had enough sauce to make the sandwich perfect. She had a small pizza...plain with peppers and mushrooms.

Amazing pizza, especially for the location! Perfect takeout situation! We live in the area and were so happy to have had this place around the corner!

I've eaten at Gappy's for years and am just getting around to the review, maybe that's because I never thought of it as worth reviewing one way or the other. That's how I feel about Gappy's, the pizza is okay, the entrees as one other reviewed are "heavy" but as long as you know you're not getting fine dining it's okay. The service at the counter is better than at the tables, on some occasions I think the young guys they have there may be stoned. One in particular seemed to always be in a daze. As of late I've found better places to go and only go to Gappy's if I'm in a pinch or it's late. I'd rate Gappys' a 2+ 0r 3- but that's not an option.

It's the go to pizza in the area. I have also had usual pizzeria things like chicken parm, garlic knots, even wings. Everything is top notch. I'm editing my response because their help is awful. The food is good tho

I really wanted to love this place. It's midway between my father house and my work and I was hoping Gappys could become a weekly dinner spot for us. We are both lovers of Italian food. The parking lot is made of dirt and in March was inches deep with mud and potholes. My car was a mess when I left. I was met a the door by a very friendly waiter who took my drink order as I sat with my Dad. Seltzer with lime. It came about 15 minutes later, the third time I asked. Same thing for the bread, asked 3 times before it came. We had to ask for every drink refill and for the check. The waiter put his hand on my plate and asked if I was done when I still had my fork in my mouth. It was as if it was everyone's first day at work or they were high, something was off. The food was ok, the meatballs were fantastic. It's the service that was the deal breaker. In my opinion if you have an Italian restaurant in this area you have to nail it. There are so many fantastic Italian restaurants locally that we don't need to bother giving this one a second chance.

This place never fails. It is always like coming home when you walk through the door. The chicken parm is enough for 2 days and delightful. Don't pass exit 17 on 84.

This place never disappoints. It is a local hole in the wall type of place. Not fancy at all. But the food is abundant, tastes good and very reasonable.

I have recently moved to the area and have been going to Gappy's a lot recently since it seems to be the only restaurant close by. I was very shocked to overhear one day, how rudely one of the workers was speaking to their coworker and then even more surprised when I came to find out he was the owner!!!!! That type of attitude is exactly what draws me as well as other customers far away. I would rather drive the 20 minutes to another restaurant than give my business to somewhere with such a negative feel. On another occasion, after knowing who the owner is, I was able to witness with my own eyes, him caressing and saying VERY provocative things to the waitress and girl at the front counter. I don't know about you but thats how I heard another restaurant owner in this town got his place shut down. Being so careless, even in front of customers is ridiculous. I will never step foot in this establishment even again and I hope others do to. Sexual harassment is nothing to joke around about.

My brothers have been raving about Gappy's for quite some time so took my wife and son and couldn't be happier. This is definitely one of those diamonds in the ruff! Love the laid back feel it has and the staff are friendly and always making sure you are enjoying your meal Pizza is excellent with a nice crust, right amount of cheese and sauce is delicious! Had their shrimp parm and it was to die for! Met one of the owners who was at the register and she is truly a pleasure and friendly. My son is a great judge and for him to love the food speaks volumes! portions are large and trust me you'll take food home.Yep Gappy's is a diamond in the ruff serving up quality food, great price with awesome staff who great you with a smile and are happy to serve you!

The service was decent & mostly friendly. The food was undesirably heavy, the grilled balsamic chicken wrap sounded vaguely healthy & at least semi light was none of these, the grilled chicken was dry and overdone, the wrap needed greens. It was unflavorful despite much attempt with sauce & onions. Thoroughly disappointed despite giving it a chance :/

Been a few times. Seems to be one of the only places in the area. The food is good, but there can be a wait. The pizza is very good. Good cheese, not too much sauce, nice crust. The entree dishes are also very good. The lasagna is phenomenal. A nice filling portion, but not overly big. They have beer and wine. The staff seems very competent and pleasing. The place is very clean.

I enthusiastically use the word "hole in the wall" to describe Gappy's. It's such a gem that I can't believe I didn't stumble into here sooner. I've only ever ordered pizza and found it to be filling and delicious. The waitstaff is incredibly friendly and very quick in responding to any requests, the owner comes by your table to say hello. All in all, a great dining experience. It's not the kind of place you come on a date but it sure is a great place to come with family and friends for home cooking. Get the ziti pizza. What a delish dish!

If this review was from years ago, it would be a 5 star gushing account on how much I loved the pizza here. Now, meh. We used to order white pizzas every time any one of the kids (aka my siblings and I) were home at the parent's. The white pizza with eggplant and garlic used to rock our world. Sadly, they seem to be losing their touch. Too doughy. The magic is gone.

My boyfriend and I ordered 2 meals to go. I got a side order of Penne Alla Vodka with no meat which was freshly cooked not reheated in a microwave (thank god, that probably why it tastes so amazing since it was so fresh and yummy!!!!)...he got Sausage and Peppers on a roll. We both thought that our meals were delicious!!! And believe me I am a super picky eater so its really hard to please my pallet. The sauce for the pasta was amazing. It was creamy and so flavorful my mouth is water for it right now. I ate the whole dish! My boyfriend said his sausage and pepper where banging! I can't complain at all! The food is absolutely superb! Oh, I almost forgot how shocked I was when he paid for our meals it was only $13 and change. I couldn't believe how cheap it was! Definitely the perfect place for a delicious quick cheap lunch!

Eat local? What other choice to do you have in Holmes, NY? Service is always lovely. Emma is probably the most attentive server I've ever had. Locals are a show in itself. Pizza is mediocre but eggplant parm is out of this freaking world.

Stumbled across this place as we pulled off the highway looking for a place to feed the kids and ourselves. I liked the look of it and the constant stream of locals coming out carrying pies. We ordered a Hawaiian and a lasagna pie. They were good. The sauce was on the sweet side and the crust nice and thin. The service was wonderful and friendly. They even turned up the heat when we showed up with two kids. I would happily go back if I were a local.

A small restaurant right off of Route 84 in Carmel, NY. The food is delicious. I've had take away pizza from there and went back in July with some friends for dinner. I had a chicken dish with artichokes, banana peppers, red bell peppers and a huge side of pasta which was delicious and very affordable at $11.99. I believe the meals come with garlic rolls and salad. The service is good and there's something for everyone.

Open until two in the goddamn morning on weekends! That is unheard of for any food business north of Yonkers. Love it! Pizza is never worse than decent and can sometimes be very good. Same with the entrees. Gappy's is never bad and that sounds like a backhanded compliment, but it isn't. I am about to drive there now and I am pretty sure I know exactly how my food will taste and that is big to me.

The pizza. Do you like soft spongy tasteless dough. This is your place. The pizza is on and off, sometimes its acceptable, most of the times its not, I am cursing to myself as i am eating it that my 8 years old makes a better pie as a homework assignment for home ec.. Last time I was there you could not see the white paint anymore. Its been 6 months so maybe they cleaned it up but they got a dirty air problem. The walls top to bottom are covered with black soot. If that is the way they keep the place where you eat, whats the kitchen look like? The parking lot is always mobbed so this must not bother most of the local population but if you want good pizza go to Tuscaneros in Danbury or Fortuna down the street. Rendendoz is better. Salad is ok, other American Italian like chick parm is ok if you like standard marinara sauce and don't know what real italian food is supposed to look or taste like. Cheap place so for around here, its an option. I live 2 minutes from there and drive to Danbury or Brewster ( gaitanos) for Pizza. Wish I did not have to.

Unfortunately, I don't live in that area anymore, but Gappy's was a favorite of mine! Great food, nice comfortable atmosphere. The pizza as well as the Italian food is just delicious. The desserts are great.

Italian Restaurants in the Carmel, NY area are a dime-a-dozen. Therefore Gappy's is worth its equal share @ .83 cents. Gappy's is a place i support for every other reason but the food. Gappy's is run by a local family and is staffed by a mixture of veteran employees and high school kids. These employees are friendly and treat customers with the highest level of service. What i'm saying is that when i enter and depart from this establishment i am treated like a gentlemen with greetings and salutations. I'm not saying all gentlemen should be greeted upon arrival; but i stand firm on being saluted upon leaving a room. -i will guarantee that nearly 88% of my previous statement is 100% true. As a god damn patriot, i support local business's that bust ass and employ wonderful folks while maintaining a family friendly dining environment. I'll be brief about the food being that not much can be said: -Pizza (P) - Sauce and cheese lacking in flavor. Crust is the appropriate thickness but hits the mouth a bit doughy. Despite these qualities the slices are highly edible and satisfying. -Philly Cheese Steak (PCS) - An Italianized version. I ordered PCS once and enjoyed it, despite being half-mocked by the cashier about my choice of "a little mayo and ketchup" on my sam-guy. For some reason my comeback to the 16 year old girl was "I think i'm entitled to some condiment action!" I was stoned. -Calamari Rings (CR) - Yes. Rings. Cheap frozen rings probably from a low end food distributor somewhere in the Bronx. They were terrible but I ordered them again a couple months later with the skewed notion that Gappy's switched distributors knowing they needed to up the octo-ante. I'm stupid. -Large Salad (LS) - Iceberg, tomato, some other stuff. You know. JOKE: What was the Jewish snowman's last name? Iceberg! -Spaghetti and Marinara (S&M) - BORING. -Dowser Seltzer - White label, in a plastic bottle, lots of bubbles. -FIN- And squid-ante wouldn't have worked. So yes i know what calamari is composed of; as all gentlemen should.
