This place is fantastic and not an ounce of gluten in the entire restaurant. I had amazing GF beer, a delicious seafood pasta dish, and my husband had gnocchi. It was all phenomenal. We also were served GF white bread (!) when we sat down - the kind I thought I would never be able to eat again. It tasted just like any other white bread I've had at other restaurants (before being diagnosed). This place is amazing! Will definitely eat here again when I go back to New York. Highest recommendation!

Best restaurant ever! I'm not gluten free person, went there with friends and it was fantastic! Meal was great! And.. Oh this chocolate cake with ice cream... Can't even describe how good it was! dreamed it next night

HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend! I'm Celiac, and this was the best Italian GF I've had in NYC. I went with a friend who's a foodie and loves gluten, and even she was very impressed. The service was excellent. The owner came over to introduce herself. The ambiance is rustic and intimate. We had the bruschetta, the rucola salad with citris vinaigrette, the mushroom risotto with truffle oil, the eggplant rollatini, and the tiramisu for dessert (made with homemade lady fingers). Everything was A+. And as a Celiac, because the entire place is GF, it was a carefree and worry-free dining experience.

An amazing restaurant for people with or without celiac. The service was wonderful and they are extremely knowledgable about everything gluten free. As someone with celiac disease, this place is a dream come true. The risotto is great and the tiramisu is AMAZING!

Amazingly delicious. Having to avoid gluten is such a pain in the ass. I hate to be that person who has to ask all those annoying questions and dinning at a gluten free establishment saves me from having to do that. We were originally going to go to Sacred Chow but I didn't want to deal with the wait (I also don't eat meat so I'm a really fun person to dine with). Luckily my husband found this place literally right down the street and I am so glad that he did. We had the truffle bruschetta to start, which was amazing (I have really missed bread that tastes and feels like non gluten free bread) It was crispy and fluffy with shaved Parmesan and and loaded with mushrooms and truffle oil (13 dollars for 4 good sized pieces). My hubby got the lasagna which he thought was delicious, I didn't try because of the bolognese sauce but it looked divine. I got the Gnocchi Shittake ($19) which literally made me moan and was a large enough portion that even though I hadn't eaten lunch that day I couldn't finish it. We also got a nice bottle of wine ($45). It was dimly lit and romantic with no wait on a Friday night at 7pm. The waitresses were very sweet and asked if there were any additional allergies at the start of the meal which I thought was very accommodating. Separate single stall clean bathrooms downstairs for men and women which I always like because what am I an animal? It was really nice to go to a restaurant and just order off the menu without having to badger the wait staff with questions. Nice location not far from NYU and the bar where we were meeting friends after dinner. Will def be back!

Unfortunately, the number of 5-star reviews on Yelp is a bit misleading. I am allergic to gluten and consequently, my expectations for restaurant food are not sky-high. If I can eat something that is relatively tasty and does not make me sick, usually I am thrilled. The food here was some of the blandest, most tasteless food I've ever had in a restaurant, in any city. I sampled several dishes as we were here with a group and everything was bland, whether it was a pasta dish or some kind of meat entree. The service was equally problematic. We didn't get our food until maybe 90 minutes after ordering, despite the staff telling us several times that it was on the way. Once we pressed them for information on what was going on, they told us that they had cooked up all the dishes for our group except one, which they had forgotten, then decided (without asking what our preference would be - which is a bit surprising) it would be better to throw out the dishes they did cook and just re-cook everything...rather than just give the one person whose food was delayed a free appetizer or something to hold them over. We wound up spending close to three hours in here from start to finish, and we were sweating throughout because the place was way overheated. In their defense, they were apologetic and gave us free desserts. However, the final annoyance was that we had a decent size group and asked merely that they split the check two ways, which they refused to do. All service issues aside, the core issue is the food is surprisingly bland and tasteless.

This place was absolutely delicious. I went here for a date night and had the cauliflower parm while my boyfriend had the chicken parm. We split a caprese salad as well that was fresh, simple and flavorful. There is nothing worse then bland tomatoes. The service provided was average, not bad at all, just average. The hostess was very pleasant upon greeting us and our waiter was attentive. You did see the chef come out to monitor things, making sure everything went smoothly that evening which ensures anyone dining he cares for his establishment and wants it to do well.

The Ambiance was excellent. The service was good, but the food was terrible. HOWEVER, THESE PEOPLE DO NOT KNOW HOW TO PREPARE PASTA. We tried two pasta dishes because the first one was so bad that we sent it back.. The second one was not much better and was left uneaten. One of us actually got sick from the food. The rave reviews must be because people are so excited about a totally gluten free menu. But I have been gluten free since the 1960's and know how to cook. The chef here did not. Too bad, but I definitely do NOT recommend this place.

Such an enormous treat to eat at Senza Gluten!! Our lunch party consisted of one person with Celiac Disease, one person with Gluten Intolerance and one person with no food allergies whatsoever. Everyone loved the food, the atmosphere and the friendly staff! We started the meal sampling several of the delicious Bruschetta dishes, followed by some wonderful pasta dishes, especially the rigatoni special with a light cream sauce and crispy prosciutto! The desserts were amazing too! We loved the biscotti with a dark chocolate sauce and the special marinated berries with vanilla ice cream and an unbelievably delicious shortbread cookie! Can't wait to return to this wonderful spot!! It's a safe and delicious place for anyone with gluten sensitivity or celiac disease. It was so wonderful not to have to worry or ask questions about gluten or cross contamination and to be able to eat everything on the menu!! Our friend with no food allergies really loved everything too!!

Everything is gluten free! This is a Celiac's dream! Great food, my boyfriend who doesn't even eat gluten free said he couldn't even tell there was a difference... which is great. Loved the caesar salad... with CROUTONS! Thanks Senza Gluten! We'll be back for sure!

Amazing experience. The menu is 100% gluten free and they are considerate of other dietary needs as well. Eating here felt just like eating out when I was young before I went GF. They brought bread to table. Then we had the Caprese (creamiest mozzarella ever). I enjoyed the filet mignon (perfectly cooked) and my boyfriend had spinach gnocchi with quatro formaggio sauce (I nibbled on it the whole meal). For dessert we had tiramisu and molten chocolate cake (what a treat for the GF folks!). The waitress (an amazing young woman who gives credit to the industry) suggested our bottle of wine and it paired perfectly with the meal. I'd like to thank the house for such a lovely evening. Can't wait to see a brunch menu ; )

i went back again and got the gluten free lasagna and it was ok, i think its just weird the way they heat it up... not evenly heated..maybe ,microwaved? not sure... not as good as last time but the eggplant parm aptz was amazing!!!! i will go back for more eggplant parmesan!

My fiance and I visited NYC last weekend from CA and were so thrilled to find this gem of a restaurant! We are both health-conscious eaters and prefer to eat gluten-free. Everything at Senza Gluten was phenomenal from the gluten-free bread and desserts to the friendly and attentive service. I highly recommend Senza Gluten!

What a great place and not just because they are gluten free. The food was wonderful and even the bread tasted great. The service was impeccable and the owner was so gracious and kind. The ambiance was very welcoming and I loved their choice of music. Lots of classics like Lois Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald. Wine was also fantastic. I will definitely be back another time when in NY.

This place is all kinds of wonderful! I am an Italian-American Celiac and I haven't had Italian food this good since being diagnosed. When I couldn't finish my amazing pasta and asked to have it wrapped to go, the owner himself came to my table to make sure everything was okay. Not only is the food top-notch, but the service is, too. Thank you for making every Celiac's dream come true, Senza Gluten!

Stumbled upon this gem. Old World feel with New world gluten free... perfect. Had the mushroom risotto. Wonderful. Mozzarella salad great too. Wonderful waitstaff. Great vibe. Wonderful enthusiastic owners. Location is great too. Couldn't be better on a cold winter's day. So happy that there are aesthetically pleasing restaurants that have gluten free food. Hopefully this is the wave of the future. YUM!

  • Marcus S.

Love the food there, perfect place and a feather in your arsenal of gluten free list of restaurants. Great service, great food. The lasagna is one of the best I've had, and that's in competition with non-gluten free versions!

  • Jilly B.

Very clean, good food, and super gluten free friendly, but most of the seating for two is "extra intimate" and not in a good way. Service is slow but food comes out piping hot. There was only one waiter for the whole restaurant he kept pace better then expected. If you have additional allergies they are very willing to inform you. Your options are still limited.

  • Sasha A.

Starter - awesome. Main course - awesome. Service - really great. You cannot fault this place if you are Gluten free. You get to eat all the stuff you can't usually eat. My boyfriend is not even gluten free plus he grew up in Italy so he is pretty hard to please when it comes to Italian food and gluten free doesn't usually cut it for him. It was such a pleasure for us to be able to eat from the same plate and dip bread in oil together! The little things in life :) Will definitely go back. Oh and yes, the music was a total joy too!!!

If you ever see me turn down pasta, I promise it wasn't me, it was an imposta' youtube.com/watch?v=7azv… They refuse to accept future orders on Eat24 here*, yet still took 35 minutes (blamed their printer) to mash an $11 lunch slice** of Jennifer's Way Bakery's overly-powdery tiramisu (failed the tiramisu gag test miserably) into a takeout container. *And their hours across ordering services differ **Presumably a $1 smaller than the dinner portion: Lunch Menu Tiramisu $11 (as opposed to $11 on other menu) Layers of mascarpone cream and home made savoiardi biscuits.

Went here this past Friday and was very pleasantly surprised. As someone who is gluten-free and dating an Italian who loves gluten, we are often limited in restaurant options. Almost every time I go to a restaurant, I get some level of anxiety that I won't find anything gluten free and will be left eating a salad for every meal (I eat enough of those!). This restaurant is now tied for my new favorite! The food is great (I got bruschetta with mushrooms & truffle oil, fettucini bolognese, and the molten lava cake) and my gluten-loving boyfriend thought the food was fantastic as well. The ambiance is great for a nice, easy dinner date. The lighting is dim and the decor looks rustic. We sat in a section that was slightly separated from the main dining area that houses the larger tables - it was fantastic. The best, and most unexpected part was the feeling of 0 anxiety walking in. Knowing that the entire restaurant is gluten free allowed me to fully enjoy a dining experience for the first time in years. I had forgotten what it was like to eat out without worry. If I had to name something that detracted, it would be the attentiveness of the staff - that is to say, they were VERY attentive. I believe this restaurant just opened, so I completely understand that they want to make sure you're enjoying your meal and talk to the customers to make a real connection. It just seemed that asking 4+ times how the food was was a little much. It was such a minor thing that I would never hold it against them, and I'm betting that as they continue to attract more customers (as they should!) they'll ease up on making sure everyone is enjoying themselves. Just look at the smiles on our faces!

Wonderful! So attentive to my wife's food allergies. Staff super friendly. Dishes were amazing, I had grilled chicken and my wife had the chitake gnocchi. We also had the tiramisu and chocolate cake. Wonderful food, reasonable prices. If you are gluten sensitive or not, I would highly recommend this place.

Amazing food and excellent service. If you're gluten free or even if you're not, this is a great restaurant. We live down the street so I'm super excited they opened here.

Absolutely divine Italian cuisine....Each course was so flavorful and well done we kept asking for the menu to try more. I've eaten at top restaurants all over the world, and this is some of the best Italian food I've had. Will be back for sure.

This restaurant is great, especially for anyone who cannot eat gluten but even if you can it is definately worth going. The pasta and bread are really good and you wouldn't really know they were gluten free (unlike the mushy pasta you can get in places). The food is really good with lots of different options. We have been twice already and cannot wait to go again. The staff are so friendly and service is excellent. We felt really welcome and felt the staff were genuinely pleased to see us when we returned for a second visit.

Your Italian Grandmother may roll over in her grave when she hears about the Gluten-Free Fettuccine, Lasagna, and Bread, but your Celiac-Sensitive Sister is going to think she's died and gone to heaven. I'm not gluten-sensitive, but decided to give it a try anyway simply because it's a new place in the neighborhood. I ordered Caesar Salad & Fettuccine Bolognese delivery from GrubHub. I live a couple blocks away and other eateries nearby may take up to 45 minutes to get to me. This delivery happened in 15 minutes! Nice to see that they kept the salad dressing separate from the salad so that the lettuce could stay crunchy upon arrival. The bolognese and fettuccine with bread were exactly what I would expect from any other Italian restaurant. Prepared al dente, still a thicker crust even if it's not the crunchy kind on the bread and a soft interior texture. For the sensitive diet, this place does an amazing job. For someone who can enjoy pasta regularly, this place is a great option to enjoy your pasta favorites with friends who normally can't.

On a gluten free diet, there are some strong generalizations that are made about ethnic categories of food, primarily Italian and Chinese are foods that you should avoid like the plague. Senza Gluten (Italian for Without Gluten) breaks down the stereotypes and delivers well prepared Italian food in a safe atmosphere for those that are gluten intolerant. When put in these situations, I order a ton of food with the excuse "because I can." I had the lasagna and tartufo pizza. My only regret, I couldn't eat more. Everything is well prepared, flavorful, and nicely presented. The lasagna was very well balanced with the pasta, cheese, and bolognese sauce. The pizza is on a nicely crisp crust the balance of the arugula, oils, prosciutto, mushrooms, and mozzarella is fantastic! The servers were friendly and attentive. I may go out of my way when visiting the Financial District for work to come here for meals in the future. Delicious, gluten free, comfort!

So amazing. So tasty. So exciting eating in a gluten-free restaurant. The lasagna nearly brought me to tears. The tiramisu made me want to smack somebody. Even my nonsensitive friends loved their dishes. The music, the ambience, the service -- all wonderful. Thank you for a truly authentic Italian experience!

Whatever you do, DON'T get DELIVERY! Maybe the food is different if you eat-in, but we ordered the veal and I couldn't believe what a dry slab of meat was delivered to us for $30... Just gross. Never again. I would also expect the bread at a gluten free restaurant to be delicious...but NOPE. It tasted like cardboard and I couldn't even swallow it because it was so dry. Yuck.

Came here on a Friday night for dinner and was seated in the side room all the way in the back against a wall. I sat facing the front of the restaurant, so had lots to see but my BF sat facing the back of the restaurant leaving him feeling a little claustrophobic towards the end of the meal with only a blank wall to stare at. The restaurant is dim and each table has a candle. The service was great and we never felt like we were being forgotten about, even when we were tucked away in the restaurant. We started off with the original bruschetta and the eggplant parmigiana, which we ate up quick. The eggplant parmigiana here is more of a lasagna type, versus a finger food/dipping type, which I've seen at other restaurants. For entrees I had the lasagna and my BF had the fettuccine, both of which were delicious; especially my lasagna. For dessert we had the tiramisu and chocolate cake. OH. MY. GOD. These were AMAZING!! Even IF the food wasn't good, I'd come back just for their desserts. I feel like I've found my Italian restaurant gem: great decor, clean, attentive staff, delicious food where nothing is off limits, and most importantly ... incredible desserts. The only downside I'd have to put out there is that I didn't really like the commercials playing in between the music they had playing quite loudly throughout the restaurant; especially when the commercials were for other restaurants or fast food joints (e.g. McDonalds.) But this wasn't enough of a negative for me to remove any stars. I hope this place continues to be as amazing as it was during my first visit for all of my future visits. If it doesn't, I will definitely be updating my review. ;)

Amazing, Delicious, & Enlightening... didn't know gluten free could be so tasty! Italian food at it's gluten free best. Nice atmosphere, great music... I knew when I sat down and I heard Louie Armstrong, Jerry Vale, Rocco Granata, and other favorites this was going to be a great night dining with my lovely daughter. She is gluten intolerant, loves Italian and this place did not disappoint. These are the stars of the night: Bruschetta Ai Funghi, Risotto Ai Funghi, Vitello Alla Milanese, & Cauliflower parmigiana (very unique and great). Homemade red sangria great and dessert that took a while to come out and I thought they forgottaboutit, but they didn't.Torta Al Cioccolato was being freshly bake in the oven(Molten chocolate cake with toasted almond cream anglaise and vanilla bean ice cream) Never had anything so good. Shout out to Armando a great waiter. Run don't walk and enjoy the greatness. Ciao

Such a lovely experience. It really felt like we were in Italy! We had very nice service. We started with the caprese salad followed up by the veggie lasagna and the margarita pizza. The lasagna was outstanding and light. Yes...light lasagna! I was not so impressed with the pizza crust. Definitely was less crispy than what I am used to.... Perhaps it's because of the gluten free aspect. I don't know. I'll definitely come back to try other items...I wonder if they have weekday happy hour? Hmm???

Fantastic meal last night. This place is a dream come true for a celiac. The mushroom and truffle bruschetta was heavenly. The chicken parmigiana was also delicious. The only negative is that they do not take Visa or MasterCard. Only Amex and cash. But there is an ATM downstairs. I will definitely be back.

So you're not gonna go to a gluten-free Italian place in Manhattan unless someone in your group actually has a need for it (at least that's my assumption...). Taking that into consideration I'd like to give this place 4 stars, but without considering the food restrictions it would probably be 3 stars. The first thing they do is ask if you have any other food allergies which is super considerate! If you think about the fact that the bread/pasta is gluten-free you'll notice the difference but if you don't consistently think about it you won't even notice. The seafood and meat here is really fresh: I enjoyed the steak dish as well as this seafood pasta with clams, shrimp and lobster. They also have really good dessert!

A lovely little restaurant for the gluten-free and gluten-tolerant alike. The host was super-friendly and very gracious. They wanted us to have a great experience. We got a cute table toward the back, by the stairs, but it was still cozy and romantic. The room is fairly small, and nice for a date with your significant other. The only thing my gf questioned were a few of the music choices (they seemed to be streaming a Louis Prima Pandora station, which was more than fine with me). My spaghetti with clams was spot on, as was the gf's pasta. The risotto is probably worth checking out, as are some of the secondi. The wine list listed some great options, including Primitivo (a favorite of mine). Prices were in the reasonable range, especially for the quality and experience. Definitely recommended, though I hope it stays accessible (you can easily make OpenTable rez an hour before your meal).

I dined at Senza Gluten yesterday for the first time. Such a good experience. For folks like me with celiac disease, it's always a challenge dining out, hoping (praying) that restaurants actually understand just how serious gluten allergies are. So being able to dine out without worry--on Italian food, no less--was a real pleasure. But forget about gluten or no gluten for a minute; this is simply good Italian cuisine. The mushroom bruschetta, for instance, is some of the best I've ever had: herby, earthy, with a nice crunch. To continue with the theme, I had the mushroom risotto, which was nicely creamy and balanced. (Only minor gripe was that it needed a touch more salt.) The atmosphere is quaint and warm. It has just enough of that old Village / hole-in-the-wall feel, with flickering votive candles and a "Big Night"-esque soundtrack, to feel charming. Can't wait to go back.

What a great idea, a restaurant entirely Gluten Free. No worries about getting sick from cross contamination. And while some of the food was good, some (white clam sauce) was barely editable. I guess safety does have a trade off. An A for effort and staffing though Also the Tiaramaso was excellent.

Have been there twice and plan on making it a regular spot. It's cute and homey and has a romantic vibe (although not overly so). Good wine and fairly priced and really delicious food whether you can eat gluten or not (I can, boyfriend can't). For now, easy to get a table with no wait. Must eat: the lasagna - best ever, including regular lasagnas. Molten lava cake. What we ordered the first time - very delicious - original bruschetta, Caesar salad, lasagna, chicken parm (side salad and big portion of chicken), and molten lava cake. The second time we tried the mushroom bruschetta (yum), prosciutto with mozzerella (big mozzerella serving), cavatelli with lamb ragu and bolognese fettecini (pastas were good, but not as flavorful as the lasagna). Fyi, not sure they have AC but the ceiling fans keep it manageable. Wine was good and if you want cider or gf beer they have that too. Can't go wrong here.

What a gem of a restaurant Senza Gluten is. Long story short, my sister made reservations here for her birthday thinking that only a few people could come, and being the sneaky brother I am, actually planned a surprise for her and combined our reservations. The manager was SO friendly and accommodating as I planned the whole night over the phone with her. My sister has had Celiac's disease for years now and rarely is she able to go to (or find, for that matter) an all gluten-free restaurant. So needless to say, finding this restaurant and having it be an incredible experience for all of us made it that much more special. The service was excellent for our group of 13 (!) and the food was even better. We split some bottles of wine and several bruschetta's. They were all impeccable. I'm not too familiar with GF food but it tasted delicious and was very well prepared. All the entrees were also out of this world. I had the mushroom risotto but several of us got the various gluten free pastas which were all incredible. I just can't say enough good things about this place. Even if you're not gluten free, I definitely recommend checking it out. We loved it and will definitely come back again!

Very disappointing!! Staff seemed slow and disorganized, having to wait quite some time for food and drinks. Entrees mediocre at best but deserts were quite good!! This restaurant seems trendy, pricey and not very welcoming! I would not come back again!

Oh em gee. I don't even know where to start. Senza Gluten is amazing!!!!! We came here on a whim. We walked into a portal to Italy. I felt like we were on a street in Rome and to have a menu in front of me that I can eat EVERY single item on was beyond joyous. The music was perfect and the ambiance was awesome. We ordered eggplant parmesan to start. We were given gluten free bread and oil. We ordered two specials : gnocchi and scallops. We also had tiramisu and meringues. I haven't had tiramisu in years and this was better than I remembered. I was so impressed with Senza Gluten and already texted friends here in NYC so they have this place on their radar. One note for all you yelpers: they only accept AMEX and cash. Let me tell you it was worth it!

I was visiting NYC for a few days and was fortunate to find this gem. My wife has suffered from celiac for over 25 years. As anyone with celiac knows, eating out can be difficult, and choosing a place to eat out can be risky if the person is extremely sensitive. My wife was literally in tears when she learned that absolutely everything on the menu would be safe for her to eat. With that in mind, I insisted she order for both of us since I knew that there were multiple dishes she wanted to try. The mushroom gnocchi is absolutely outstanding!!! The vegetarian lasagna was delicious. Don't even get me started on the tiramisu and the chocolate cake, simply unreal. We both ate as if it were our last meal. We returned the very next night with some of my co-workers. None of them have gluten issues. One of co-workers ordered the same gnocchi dish and was extremely impressed and raved about his dish. The Chicken Milanese was as good as I've ever had. Teona (manager) and Shainis (server) were both soo helpful and delighted to answer any questions we had. Teona even treated us to a very nice bottle of some Georgian (non US) wine which complemented our meal perfectly. Whether gluten is an issue for you or not, I highly suggest you try to make time to join them for a great meal.

A really nice gluten free option with nice ambiance and very good gluten free pasta. The prices are a bit high, but the food is high quality and it is clear that the staff really care about the customer's experience. We tried several of the appetizers, pastas, and one of the main courses. All of the options were tasty. We didn't enjoy the rose on the menu, but that is a minor complaint. I will definitely return with my gluten free family members, who all really liked it.

What can I say that haven't already been said? Excellent service and downtown casual but upscale atmosphere. Extensive wine list and great pasta with generous portions. We celebrated my daughter's birthday there because one of her friends has celiac. That said, the food was so good that I would go back gluten or no gluten. Prices are normal for a higher end down/midtown Manhattan Italian restaurant with pasta dishes in the $20 range.

Since being diagnosed with Celiac Disease, eating out has become one of the most difficult and anxiety-inducing tasks, especially in a social city like New York. Friends stop inviting you out because they don't want to deal with your autoimmune disorder, or because they don't understand that there are cuisines outside of pizza and pasta that rarely use gluten in their cooking. So, when Senza Gluten opened, I was incredibly excited. The atmosphere is very relaxing and the staff is absolutely amazing. Everything on the menu is gluten free, so there's no need to ask questions or read the menu a thousand different ways looking for an entree. I had the Cauliflower Parmigiana as an appetizer and the Lasagna for my entree. Both were flavorful and reminiscent of the Italian that I would eat before I went gluten free. Let's put it this way: I went with my date who is not sensitive to gluten, and he thought the food was excellent. I will definitely be going back! And I will most likely be dragging my friends there for my birthday in a few weeks. It's only fair that they have to eat gluten free after making me eat lettuce during their celebrations, right?

I dined at Senza Gluten for the first time tonight and could not have enjoyed it more. The food was fantastic and the service was outstanding! You can feel the warmth and comfort of the restaurant the minute you walk in. For people living a gluten-free lifestyle it's simply amazing to be able to eat eggplant parmigiana and ravioli without worry and for everyone else it's simply delicious food. We had the mushroom bruschetta, gnocchi and ravioli fungi with a delicious cream sauce. The desserts (tiramisu and chocolate cake) were fantastic. The wine was quite good and very reasonably priced. The owners are lovely and very personable. You can tell this restaurant isn't just a business but it's their passion and it really comes through in the food.

What a wonderful treat for a gluten free dinner!! The service is wonderful and the food is delicious. Starting with gluten free bread for the table and delicious bruschetta- everything was spot on. It feels very European with the screened on French doors and attention to detail. The ravioli was spectacular and the snapper was cooked perfectly. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone, but it's wonderfully gluten free KITCHEN (the whole thing) makes it spectacular for anyone with food restrictions!

I had the gamberi salad, and the risotto with asparagus and shrimp. The risotto was not very tasteful, most taste was the vegetable broth, it was not bad either but not excellent or worth $21. The organic wine was cool, and my husband had the penne al pomodoro, nothing special... I would not go back to be honest, but I LOVE the idea of a gluten free Italian restaurant, it is genious just not that tasty compared to what Italians are capable to do in the kitchen. A bit too pricey for what it actually offers.. but I get it , west village is expensive..

This is the BEST restaurant. Not only is the Food AMAZING but the service is always spot on! It's such a wonderful experience being able to have a stress free dining experience where you don't have to speak to the chef prior, share your Gluten Allergy details, not touch the bread basket, etc... I have come several times and this time I brought my great friends who are not Gluten Free who said the meal was Fantastic and they wouldn't notice it was unless I told them! I always invite everyone to come to this quaint and wonderful restaurant and I'm always so pleased.

Nothing special here other than gluten free dishes. The wine came warm and I had to ask the waiter to chill the next bottle. They store the wine downstairs in an area that is above 100 degrees. There is nothing special on the menu, you can have the same food in pretty much any Italian restaurant in the city which makes me ask why someone would come here if they don't have a gluten concern. The air conditioning does not work properly either, we had to switch tables after all four of us sweated profusely in the back section of the restaurant.

If you ate looking to expand your palate and take a walk on the Gluten Free side this is the place, try Senza Gluten for Italian flair. From the moment I walked in the staff was so attentive. The atmosphere is inviting and if you want to have a meal for one or eight this is a perfect setting. Everything I ordred was flavorful. I have to say I wasnt to keen on the spinach salad which was very basic. The overall menu choices are plentiful and caters highly to those with celiac, gluten sensitvities etc. As a finicky eater I would come back. Cannot wait to see what luscious desserts they have.

Perfect for someone gluten free and their families. Everyone was happy with their food. No one felt like they were sacrificing taste. The gnocchi are perfect

I'm typically not one to post negative reviews about a restaurant, seeing as I've worked in the industry for quite some time, but I was thoroughly disappointed in the meal I had last night and need to voice my opinion because opinions are like assholes- everybody has one. The meal started off just fine- it's a lovely space with dim, romantic lighting and friendly service- but the positivity ended once food started hitting the table... I ordered the lasagna, which I had been looking forward to for weeks, (maybe I hyped it up too much). The lasagna had clearly been microwaved, which is an absolute no in my book- in anyone's book, really. The outside was hardened, crisped, and room temperature while the inside was scalding hot. So hot in fact I had to spit the bite back onto the plate because my mouth was suffering from third degree burns. (Ladylike, I know). Not only was temperature an issue, the dish didn't have any detectable flavor. A heavier hand in the S&P category would do it justice. My guest had ordered the chicken parmesan and described the meat as 'rubbery.' I didn't actually eat this chicken, so I'm taking her word on it. I'm sad to say that I will not be back to Senza Gluten. I think the concept is just what this city needs, but the execution isn't quite there yet. I that a bit more passion from the kitchen would make a world of difference.

Only nice things to say. Welcomed by a warm and smiling hostess and truly made to feel like a guest. As someone who does not eat gluten it was really a treat to be able to enjoy everything without having to worry about what was in it. I ordered the chicken Parmesan and was the envy of the table. My father had a cous cous salad which seems a little underwhelming. My suggestion would be to go big and get the chicken parm, lasagna, or one of the pastas and you are pretty much guaranteed to be happy!

An amazing find on Sullivan Street between Soho and West Village. 100% gluten free fabulous ITALIAN food. Beautiful decor makes you feel as though you are in Italy. Our fabulous server, Ellie (sp?) made us feel as though we were at home and hanging out with an old friend. If you are gluten free or not you must go.

Super cozy place; it was packed the Saturday night we had reservations and we sat in the farthest corner. We were seated when we arrived and the rest of service was timely. I very much appreciate that. The bruschetta originale was nice. My main was the mushroom risotto which I added grilled asparagus to. Delicious. My friends enjoyed their plates as well. I admire the senza gluten effort, you're doing it well!

Senza Gluten is an amazing restaurant, the food is delicious and everything is 100% gluten free. We started with caprese... mozzarella was so fresh, delicious! Then I had mista and spaghetti alle vongole, all was so great. We also had tiramisu and biscottie cioccolato for dessert. I will most defiantly be coming back. THANK YOU.

I got here last minute and they squeezed me in but overal I am happy with the place. My appetizer was the funghi bruschetta which was awesome. My entree was the saffron risotto with shrimp, which tasted like paper ... I was confused and had to add lots of pepper/chilli and Parmesan to get some flavor out of it. I felt like they forgot some ingredients and when I mentioned it the waiter who was also the host said he will tell the kitchen right away and I don't think he even did. The desert was on point and saved this place(Tirimisu). I will try it once more to see what happens and then continue my review from there.

This place was such a pleasure to dine at. They really take pride in making the experience enjoyable. As a native Italian family we thoroughly felt that it was very authentic. I would absolutely try the tiramisu with homemade finger cookies and the eggplant parmigiana! Overall, it was divine, I can't wait to go back.

Last nigh I had an excellent dinner at Senza Gluten-An Amazing restaurant ! Food is delicious and fresh, I could not believe that gluten free food could be this delicious. I had few different dishes recommended by Chef himself and it was amazing that even gluten free bread tastes like a real bread. The atmosphere is cosy, service very friendly and attentive. I would like to say special thanks to chef James L Solo for creating this beautiful place and for great hospitality, my Dinner yesterday was really unforgettable. I highly recommend this place to all my friends and people who love delicious food.

Senza Gluten is an excellent choice for Celiacs who are looking for high quality Italian cuisine with wonderful ambiance. My fiance is a diagnosed celiac with high sensitivity and she had absolutely no problem eating here. The service was superb and all of the food we had was delicious and fresh. Celiacs can breath easy here as the entire restaurant is 100 percent gluten free. No having to make special requests for clean pans, no worry about cross contamination, and a full menu to choose from. A completely stress free and enjoyable experience. Get the tiramisu!!

  • Joseph N.

Great experience. Safe haven for celiacs with no trace of gluten anywhere to be found. The food was on par with any of the Italian restaurants in Manhattan. Even as a non celiac I would love to come back. The ambiance is rustic, very much like something you would find in Venice (not Rome or Florence). Wine selections are decent but not extensive. The food is what shines here and the fact that a niche restaurant is available for those that really cannot risk getting contaminated. I am glad that there are those like this restaurant that are willing to take a tangent to the mainstream and I truly applaud their efforts. Senza Gluten is an excellent Italian restaurant that should satisfy all comers. Tip: try the bruschetta al funghi...

My husband and I are here for our anniversary. Last minute we asked the concierge for a nice, gluten free restaurant. This was the perfect spot! They were genuinely concerned about my other food allergies and very helpful in steering me in the right direction as to what I could have. I got the shiitake gnocchi. I can't believe how wonderful it was! The gnocchi was so soft and the entire dish had so much flavor!! For dessert I had their tiramissu and it was equally delectable. Creamy and soft while not too soggy. The coffee on top was dense and gave it the right amount of life. The waitress was so sweet and attentive. I wish they would come to Dallas , we need one more places like this!

We just had an AMAZING meal here! The restaurant is 100% gluten free, and the menu and food are both incredible. We started with mozzarella and tomato. The mozzarella was the freshest I've ever had. We also had bruschetta and Caesar salad which was excellent. For our meals we had lasagna, and fettuccini bolognese both of which tasted better than any "regular" pasta dishes I've ever had. They were very accommodating, and made a chicken parmesan for my 9 year old son who is very picky, and he gave it a major thumbs up. We then finished with merengue cookies, creme brûlée,and tiramisu- all were home runs. The restaurant atmosphere is also very nice- with its rustic, romantic feel, you are transported to Italy (or at least what I envision Italy looks like...someday we'll get there!). I highly recommend this restaurant and hope it becomes a staple for the gluten free community.

My two daughters wanted a special dinner together. One daughter has Ceiliac. We had my 1 year old granddaughter with us as well. The service, the music, everything was so wonderful!! The owners stopped by our table to welcome us and again to get feed back. Baby was not having sitting for the entire relaxed time we took to visit and enjoy each others company since I was there for such a short visit. So Baby & I walked and danced to the beautiful Italian music for a bit. All the staff were helpful, friendly and accepting of baby (which meant a lot to us). THE FOOD WAS AMAZING! Even the dessert was to die for! What a great find! We will be back.

Delicioso! Wonderful service, very attentive. Came here for a friends birthday dinner. The staff sang her a happy birthday and the chef as well as the owner stopped by our table to chat. So happy there is a gluten free restaurant in the neighborhood that serves delicious Italian food (very rare to find gluten free Italian fare). I had the lasagna. Oh wow. The fresh basil on top was the perfect addition. They also had my favorite red wine that I discovered in Italia - Montepulciano. Will be back for sure!

Wonderful to have a caring and quality option for great Italian food without Gluten, so that those with dietary issues or just trying to avoid it can resume their enjoyment of this wonderful cuisine. Everything we had tasted great, and those who aren't used to gluten free foods actually said they couldn't tell a difference from regular bread in the bruschetta and pasta in the penne. We could tell a little, but they've selected good gluten free brands and prepare them very well. They even have gluten free tiramisu, for those of us who miss it ;-)

This is the answer to tasteless gluten free food. Senza gluten has broken new ground for innovative use of gluten free ingredients within an Italian menu framework. Luscious tastes, great textures and wonderful lingering tastes from apps to dessert. Seriously the best tiramisu I have ever had. The owners are warm, friendly and unpretentious in their genuine desire to please not only those sensitive to gluten, but to all those who want to try a healthy diet alternative without sacrificing good taste. Our wait service was energetic and knowledgeable about the menu. Have u ever had cauliflower parmigiano? A must. Check out the menu. Lots of traditional and lots of creative originals.

What more can you ask for? An italian restaurant where you can just eat and not worry at all. I visited last night and I just can't say enough good things! The food was delicious and served promptly and hot. The hostess was very nice and the waitress was so sweet and helpful.

I feel duped by all the great reviews that led me to this poor, overpriced restaurant. Who are you people? Related to the owners? I will start with the good. I thought the room was pretty and music was great. Smart choice to play jazz standards. But that's where the good ended for us. We waited 45 minutes for a salad and eggplant parm appetizer. The eggplant was mushy and had no taste. Then my hubby was given a warm glass of red wine. Not room temp, warm, with bottle heated by candle below. Not good, and $14! We sent it back. Same thing happened again. The waiter did not seem to understand english. The owner came over to apologize and said she will "make it up to us" because the food was taking so long and wine was bad. So, the main courses arrive another 30 minutes later and the lasagna was dried out on the outside and mushy and tasteless in the middle. So, so bad and disappointing. At this point, the owner came to "make it up" to us and offered us a caprese. Which we really didn't care about but fine, sounds good. And it was, except tomatoes aren't in season so we ate the cheese. But really, if you want to make it up to us, probably better to comp the wine and apps, at the very least. Do the right thing and avoid a review like this. Best to not send a cheese salad we clearly didn't want and call it even. At the end of the meal, the hostess came over and told us we just had to get the tiramisu because it's so amazing and it's her favorite. The implication was that they were buying this for us, since we were not going to order dessert. Nope. Charged. I want our money back, I want our night back, and I really, really want people to stop posting fake, misleading reviews.

Tried this restaurant for the first time, definitely will be back. Had scallops as an appetizer, done to perfection and my entree was just as good.. Love the fact that wait staff is extremely knowledgable, which helps for some one like me with tons of food restrictions. Highly recommended

Loved this place! Cozy romantic old timey Italian restaurant. A dream come true if you have celiac disease. Everything is gluten free and tastes great: . gnocchi, lasagna, tiramisu. yum. Great ambiance. And if you can eat gluten you won't feel deprived.

I've been meaning to write this review. Had the most amazing time at this restaurant with my mom, sister, and daughter. Yes. I have celiac so this restaurant is a no brainer but beyond that- the service was impeccable, food was amazing, ambience was quaint and wonderful... Family owned restaurant- just love love love this place. Their flourless chocolate cake is my new weakness.

Had dinner here on Saturday night. For people with severe gluten allergies, this is probably a great place, but if you're like me, and simply prefer to eat gluten free for the health benefits, there are better places in the neighborhood. I ordered a caesar salad, which was good but not great (dressing was more oily than creamy), and the Rigatoni special. It had a lovely creamy mushroom sauce. My son ordered chicken soup, which was overwhelmed by greens and overcooked carrots, and filet mignon. He enjoyed the steak, but there are so many great steak places in the area and his steak was not a stand-out. Overall, it was fine but I probably would not return.

One of my co-workers is gluten free so we picked this place as a treat for her when we chose it for a team celebration dinner. I wouldn't even know I was eating gluten free if you hadn't told me! Everything was really really good - not gluten-free good, just plain good! Yummy apps, yummy lasagna, yummy tira misu. Whatever you select is awesome. Not an extensive liquor bar - a few of the basics, but mostly really good wines. (I ordered a manhattan, but had to settle for a cosmo, followed by wine.) I'd highly recommend the place. It's small, cosy, and they play great music at just the right volume. We all had a great time!!

We had the bruschetta, the lasagna and the mushroom risotto, and absolutely everything was AMAZING! The service was perfect, everyone was really nice and willing to help. I never felt worry about the food or the preparation, you can tell they take the allergies seriously. We will definitely comer back SOON!

Just spent the last week in NYC on business and this little gem was the highlight of all my dining experiences! Family owned, small little Italian nook tucked into Greenwich village has THE BEST gluten free "Italian" Menu I've ever seen or tasted! The cauliflower Parmesan appetizer (not sure if that's the name but that's how it's cooked) is a must have along with the appetizer fughi pancetta (?) with Parmesan cheese, the chicken parm is to die for as is the roasted chicken and mashed potatoes with roasted veggies. Their pasta is unlike the normal "gluten free" pasta, this almost tastes homemade and you'd never know its not flour based pasta. My friends that went with me are not gluten intolerance nor celiac affected and they liked it as much as I did (they went for me since I am gluten intolerant). And lastly, their lattes rock!!!

This is a gem, I went there with some friends and everything was great. I tried their bruschetta originale, their gnocchi alla sorrentina and the tiramisù. I don't have gluten intollerance but I wanted to try this kind of food and finally I found a place where I can't complain for nothing. The Chef came to our table and explained every plate with passion and after we cleaned the plates He came another time to ask how was everything.....what can I say.......PERFECT!!!

I can't stop raving about this restaurant and my experience here to my friends! My husband found it using a gluten free app and it was truly delightful! Excellent knowledge wait staff! Spoke with the manager and chef before leaving and were treated as friends although we've never met! But, the BREAD!! Never have I had bread that was so close to the gluten filled bread I often miss! The texture was spot on and the lasagna was the best I've ever had! My non-gluten free husband (also picky) couldn't tell a difference and loved it! It's evident chef cooks with passion and has high standards for the food he will serve! We made reservations for our next time back before we left the restaurant! It was THAT good!

As a person with Celiac's disease, I can attest to how difficult it is to find a safe, gluten free restaurant in Manhattan. Even restaurants that claim to have gluten free items on their menus often cross-contaminate and/or do not educate their staff on gluten free eating. This restaurant was able to make me feel safe and at ease about my allergy. EVERY SINGLE ITEM on their menu is gluten free, and there is absolutely no gluten allowed in their kitchen. The food was not only 100% gluten free, but also one of the most delicious meals I have ever had in Manhattan (both before and after my diagnosis). The waitstaff was attentive, friendly, and very knowledgeable of the menu. The owner even came to our table and chatted with us; she told us how dedicated she was to making sure her patrons have a safe and satisfying experience dining in her restaurant, regardless of any food allergies. She truly went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. All in all, one of the best dining experiences I've had. This place is a MUST for anyone with Celiac's, a gluten sensitivity, or anyone else looking to have some great Italian food downtown!

This place is an absolute delight from the moment you walk in the door! Upon your arrival at Senza Gluten you are welcomed with warm and smiling faces everywhere. The ambiance is very charming, truly embraces the feel of the West Village. Soft candle light and music set the mood for a lovely evening ahead. I have dined at Senza twice since it opened a month ago, and both times it left me excited and eager to return. A completely gluten free restaurant is a true gem for those of us who suffer from allergies or intolerances, however you don't have to be a Celiac to appreciate the delectable taste of the food at Senza. So flavorful in fact that it leaves many wondering how can it possibly be gluten free?! Even for a vegetarian such as myself Senza offers delicious options. My favorites thus far are the asparagus soup (amazing!!), mushroom risotto, and panna cotta...did i mention the desserts are to die for?! Everyone do yourselves a favor, run, walk, cab, train, or stroll to this wonderful restaurant!

I have a gluten allergy. Not a true Celiac, but allergic. This place was wonderful. We were here on vacation. It's always hard to find good restaurants where we can both eat (he still eats gluten). This place was great for both of us. It was very tasty. We had bruschetta, lasagna, mojito, and a sangria. All were great.

Senza is my all time favorite spot ever! Everytime i come to NY i make sure it is the first resturant i visit ! its kind of becoming a mini tradition for me. the food is so great here, it would make you want to order food to go just so you can have some at home once you are over the food coma. if i could give it more than 5 stars i absolutely would! The staff is incredibly amazing and accommodating, i have been here several times without a reservation and the staff always seems to be able to help me without a problem.

As someone with Celiac disease this restaurant is a gift! The food is incredible so much so that I have been 3 times in the last 5 days. I was told that I am now Mr.VIP lol so that was great. The lasagna is simply one of the best dishes that I have ever had. The service matches the food and the space is perfect for any occasion!

This was my 2nd time here and both were perfect! Came for lunch yesterday and everything was delicious. My son, nephew and I seriously enjoyed the vitello alla milanese, aragosta, and frutti di mare w/ spaghetti. The best part, not having to worry if utensils, plates, glasses are contaminated with gluten....Priceless!! Thank you to the staff for a lovely meal!! Highly recommend.

This restaurant has great food and a great atmosphere! You would not know that anything is gluten free, the bread served with olive oil tastes great, and the pasta that we both ordered was fantastic. One featured menu item was the rigatoni with parmesan and speck in a cream sauce which was the winning dish. Both the tiramisu and chocolate torte were delicious. We'll be back. Minus one star because of some server snafus and an email received after the dinner saying that my open table reservation had been cancelled (not a no-show, meaning that the restaurant cancelled it). So that was a bit strange. I'm giving the benefit of the doubt since they are relatively new and the atmosphere and food were so lovely.

My friend and I had an amazing lunch here today! We ordered a salad to start that was so fresh and light with amazing avocado and balsamic! We split a mushroom, parmesan, and truffle oil risotto that was so rich and creamy, we loved every bite. Our favorite was the side order of creamy polenta which was the best we've ever had - so amazing! The service was great, very attentive and friendly. The manager came over after the meal to make sure we had a good experience , very nice! I recommend this place, lets spread the word! Not to mention the restaurant is GLUTEN FREE - added bonus for everyone especially anyone with allergies!!

Ate here last night with my family and could not have had a better experience. It was the first time I have eaten at a restaurant since I was diagnosed with Celiac Diease that I didn't feel like I had a giant stamp across my forehead declaring I couldn't eat gluten. And I got to order without sustaining the inevitable look from the waiter who is always wondering if I'm allergic or on a fad diet. The service was great and the owners were gracious and friendly; it felt like dinner in my own home. Most importantly, the food was absolutely delicious and the whole table agreed even with 3 of the people being huge fans of gluten. We enjoyed the bruschetta special with 3 types of mushrooms, shaved parmesan and truffle oil...it was gone in seconds. The rest of the meal included eggplant parm, veal milanese, chicken soup, gnocchi, lasagna and the shrimp salad. The were all so so good!! I would definitely recommend this place and will be going back very soon to hopefully try everything else!
