The hot lobster roll with garlic butter and sweet fries with maple mayo (this is an add-on option, and I am telling you to order it, no question) is undoubtedly the best meal of my entire weekend trip and worth every penny. I also had the watermelon beer, which complemented the selection almost as much as a nice, dry white wine would have done. Next time, I think I'll order the classic lobster salad roll, but that hot garlic butter is pretty hard to turn down! Pricey. Worth it.

I really hate to downgrade a grand old venue, but this restaurant has lost a step or two. We've eaten there numerous times, and one of my favorite dishes was a crispy shrimp 'burger,' which consisted of breaded, fried shrimps compressed into a patty and served on a bun; this doesn't seem to be available now. When we had tried the famed puffers on a previous visit, they were expensive and unimpressive. On this more recent visit, his fish and chips were greasy, soggy, and flavorless, while my lobster roll was chewy and flavorless, unlike previous times. We were both gulping down the tartar sauce to get a hint of taste on the fish. And I think the fish and chips may have made me ill. While not outright dirty, the place looks shabby and a bit...sticky, perhaps. There is ample outdoor seating, where you can get a good view of the passing traffic, but this time, with impending rain, they were only seating people indoors, and it took a long time for a table for two to become available, and even then, only in the bar. They had live music that day, and the musician was packing up in advance of the rain as well. When we finished, it took even longer to catch someone's attention and get our check. Prices seem high for a room with no view. In all, a less-than-pleasant experience.

4 star setting with 3 star food. The outside eating areas are absolutely wonderful - if only the kitchen was better. Doesn't a grilled cheese and lobster sandwich sound great? It sure did to me. But when it came to the table the cheese hadn't melted. Sent back it was returned to me the same way. "They can't melt the cheese because it will overcook the lobster." Really? You can't open up a sandwich and insert the meat? Or, cook each side separately? The rest of the meal was ok. But for "Hampton's" prices I expect more.

Great location within 30 minutes of pretty much every vineyard on Long Island! The lobster pot pie was out of this world and the clam chowder was the best! I love this place

Beautiful outdoor atmosphere but food was not anything special and overpriced for what it was.

My friend who is from Long Island decided to take us here for lunch as he was saying that he really enjoys the place. He mentioned that there was another one that was closer to where we were before coming to the Northside but he said he'd rather us go to the original. So the place is simply called Lobster Roll Northside and Northside just denotes their location. I was given a bit of a geography lesson on this most recent trip being that I'm very familiar with the USA but not so much with LI so it was a learning trip as well. This area is known as north fork and the area where Montauk is located is "south fork". River head which is basically the town where the north and south fork meet is the main town in the east part of Long Island... thus the Northside name. The name sake if this place is just that. It's called Lobster Roll? Guess what I'm going to order? No it won't be the steak... do they have that item? When going to the Cod Mother in San Francisco did you order only the deep fried Snickers bar? Pat's King of Steaks in Philadelphia means you order a cheesesteak right? We asked for seating outside which was available in a nice open setting. The weather was perfect that day and the seating was comfortable. I saw the menu but I knew I would want a lobster roll please and thank you. The thing is I couldn't decide on hot or cold so guess what we're ordering both thanks. My friend and his wife did the same and we ordered one with fries to share and an order of onion rings too. So each of us had half and shared the other half with our spouses giving us both hot and cold in one meal. The hot lobster roll is served in a side dish and with it we had sides of drawn butter. A small toasted piece of bread came with it as well as cole slaw. The cold was already scooped into the bun, mixed with mayo, dressed with relish and other things to keep the consistency. The lobster meat was very good. It consisted of clean visible pieces large enough to distinguish and it was as expected. The food was good and the service was good as well. My wife had room for desert so she ordered a slice of peach pie. My friend said it was from a place not far from the restaurant and he knew it would be good. This is the type of place you want to have lunch when you're on vacation. It's a good thing my friend knew about this place...

One of my favorite places on the North Fork. I really get confused when I see people bash this place in their reviews. Perhaps it's because when I come here I only order the Lobster Roll (It's the name of the place, folks. Stick with the guarantee!) We came here on a Saturday afternoon with some friends. We were seated immediately outside on the deck. The tables were shaded with umbrellas and the weather was perfect. The friendly server came immediately. We ordered 4 lobster rolls, two hot, two cold, fries and onion rings. Keep it simple and you won't be disappointed. The hot rolls were great as usual, flavorful and a perfect sized portion. In the past they brought us drawn butter, but my wife had to ask for it this time. The cold rolls were fresh and had abundant amounts of lobster on them. The fries and onion rings were perfect. My friend's wife also ordered a slice of peach pie. They get their pie from Briermere just down the road, so you know you can't go wrong! I'm the type of person who drinks a lot of water during my meals, but the server did not refill my water until we were almost ready to leave. Small blip on an otherwise great meal at the Lobster Roll.

Hostess was great, very friendly. Serve Eric B was so sweet and informative and awesome ! Food was great, French fry basket could feed a whole family. I got the drink special it was some kind of coconut rum and pineapple juice and it was so strong for $8.00, not bad. I do have one complaint !! ... The lobster Mac n cheese was delicious buuuuuuut for $15.00 it was such a small portion, smaller than my hand& kind of disappointing :/

I was all set to come here as Yelp said it was open today and somewhere else said the same. I just found out closed on tues&wed? Weird days to be closed. I was told this place was good too bad. I guess I will have to try it another day

I was glad this place had outdoor seatings because we had our dog with us. There was a live band playing while we waited for our food, which was pretty cool. Awesome atmosphere. Must order: New England Clam Chowder Hot lobster roll (lots of meat that the waiter asked if we wanted another bun since he saw that my husband and I were sharing) In addition, we also ordered the Mussels in wine sauce. It was actually my least favorite. It was lacking in flavor. No seasoning. Tasted so much better after I added salt and pepper to the sauce.

Our server was Rich...very friendly and efficient. . I had lobster salad on croissant and my husband had hot lobster roll wth garlic and butter...both excellent. . We ate inside...very clean with a warm welcoming feeling.... Definitely will be eating here again...

Great Setting, really nice place. Stuck to what the name of the place says and wasnt disappointing. The Lobster Roll was delicious. Tried the one on the croissant that my wife had which was pretty good too, but I'm a fan of the classic. At a bit over $20 a roll they do pack it with quite a bit of lobster meat, so it was worth it. We also had the New England Clam Chowder and weren't disappointing. If you are nearby and looking for a nice spot to grab a Lobster Roll, where the setting is great and the staff are nice and friendly you can't go wrong with this place.

Fresh seafoods and amazing waitress!! Drop by after picking up some fruits from nearby Lewin Farms. We had the seafood Mac and cheese which was baked well both shrimp and lobster mixed in. I also ordered the fried flounder, hot lobster roll and an order of clam strips as an appetizer. The fried items weren't greasy and the seafood was fresh. You can't go wrong with this place. In addition, there is occasionally a live singer or band playing outside on the back seating area. Will def be back soon!!

Craved for a lobster roll while I was driving through riverhead. Was quite skeptical because of such mixed reviews on yelp. Turned out to be quite a great experience. The raw clams was fresh and delicious. So as the lobster roll. All food and service was very swift without any problem. What's better than enjoying some live music sitting under the sun and biting on fresh lobster roll?

  • Remi C.

Quite slow....everybody else came after us, got their appetizers well before us. We ordered only mains. The food was mediocre when it came out, and this was after going back to ask the waiter about 4 times, over nearly an hour for our food!!! We had randomly stopped after a festival out east for some lovely fresh seafood, and were sorely disappointed!

  • Valerie B.

I think their New England clam chowder may be the best I've ever had. It was so good! And why you have no reason to trust me, I assure you I am an expert when it comes to clam chowder. It was creamy and filled with yummy stuff. I got a hot lobster roll and it was so good. There were easily three nice size claws and a bunch of other meat. It was nice and filling. It was a little expensive for me, but there was so much meat so I guess it was worth it. Yummy.

We've been here three or four times and usually have a good experience. Outdoor seating is nice! Friendly staff. I DO NOT recommend the mussel appetizer with herb wine sauce as it is WAY too oily. Beards were not cleaned off of the mussels. The Manhattan clam chowder is good though!

Food is very good. Staff is just awesome and so nice with great service. The actual lobster roll is amazing. Burgers are seriously to die for. Been there few times already with friends and if there is a wait there is a wine tasting bar in back with plenty of seats. Love it!!!!!!!

My BF and I frequented your establishment for the first time..The atmosphere was pleasant. The service was great..The food was absolutely horrible..Very disappointing. The soup was out of the can and the baked clam tasted like bland baked stuffing sprinkled with bacon. When the manager Jenn was informed of our dislike she refused to take it off the bill..I WOULD NEVER EAT THERE AGAIN.

I went here today with my girlfriends. The staff was really friendly. Very busy but they weren't on top of you. The wine tasting deal was great. The live band was excellent. A little more flavor on the lobster would have been a plus. Compared to living in NYC and going to Luke's Lobster makes it difficult to give it give stars. $26 for lobster roll, flies, pickle, coleslaw. $10 for my wine, and $12 for the tasting.

Flies everywhere ! The entire restaurant had flies flying all over the place . While eating my meal there were constantly bugs landing all over my food the entire time . The service was eh . The food was bland and the price was through the roof . Way too expensive and not worth the trip at all . This was my first and last time at this location .

Great service but food was horrible and over priced. The fried calamari at $15 was frozen not fresh. Also had a hair in my food

Ask almost anyone about this cousin of Lunch (in Amagansett) and they seem to love it. There were some almost highlights, but hard to pound one's fist and proclaim it 'the best!'. The best thing overall was the service - which would get five stars due to our server Ryan, but gets knocked down a notch by the front of the house. Ryan was polished and efficient, and I would ask for him again. The indifferent woman at the front desk, meh. The place is called Lobster Roll...I get it - order the lobster roll. And to be honest, it was pretty good. Not in the top tier with places like Abbott's in CT or the Clam Shack in Kennebunkport - but it won't let you down. The lobster slider is a perfect size for most, and a better value - but if you're one of those people who sits on the ground at Disney eating a bucket of fries and a turkey leg, you may opt for the larger version. If I went back it's the only thing I would consider ordering. We asked our server whether lobster bisque or clam chowder was better, and he said 'bisque!' without hesitation, so we thought it had chance. It was great...if pinkish orange wallpaper paste unadulterated by lobster is your gig. Like asking for a puppy and getting a zombie. On the bright side, there was enough to paper a small bathroom. Seafood reubens are immensely satisfying when properly executed - less so when the fish in question is an indistinguishable double slab that's more fried than fish (how do they do that?). The rest of the sandwich was so good it was actually edible, though it's not recommended unless you crave two Dr Scholl insert-sized blocks that have the same texture as greasy/crunchy Quaker popped rice snacks. Blecch. Normally don't pay much attention to the kid's menu - but special mention is deserved, and not in a good way. If you're going to bang someone $5 for mac & cheese, no problem. But if that means you serve that hideous, orange-color-not-found-in-nature glop from Kraft that could power alien spacecraft, just say so. That way parents could steer the little ones to the far more healthy, nitrate-loaded hot dogs as a more sensible choice. Kraft? Really? Don't tell us "it's what they want" - once most kids taste anything given more than 30 seconds effort, they push away the GMO crap. Go far the lobster rolls - anything else (except the service) is a crapshoot.

  • HAyes H.

The Manhattan Clam Chowder was from a can and not a very good one, the baked clams were so bland (more like tasteless breadcrumbs) that the crumbled bacon on top didn't really help and the crab cake was so, so. Our waitress (was excellent) told the manager (Jen) that we didn't like the baked clam (I didn't even bother to mention the soup)...but she refused to remove it from our bill even though it probably cost them $2 to make this poor excuse of a baked clam...I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT AS THE FOOD WAS CAFETERIA LIKE IN TASTE AND THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS!!!!

Have been a few times. Cozy place good food. They altered the menu no more fish tacos:( though boyfriend ordered hot lobster sandwhich and was very unhappy, and he is not really picky. Overall it's worth the trip just read menu carefully!

Tried again and am so frustrated by the inconsistency of this place! This place used to be THE gold standard for seafood shacks on The East End. You could always rely on this place to give you great food, big portions and consistant quality. Not so much anymore. I am giving this 3 stars, which is an average of my last 5 visits. This last visit would have got 1 star. The last time I came here, it was pretty rough. I came in October and had the puffers and fish combo with french fries. First of all, there were flies everywhere inside the dining room. There was no outdoor seating and the doors were closed, which was weird there would be flies. The table was kind of sticky even though it had been bussed. The fish and chips came out quickly but it almost seemed like frozen fish ... in the past it was plump cubes of the whitest fish you'd ever seen. It almost was like chicken! This time, it was thin filets of fish slightly curled and more dark than light. I almost though it could be bluefish instead of cod, it was dark and oily. Rather than being thick, it was kind of crumbly and dry. As if it was frozen. The puffers were good but it seemed like they might have been overcooked as the fish was dry and not as flakey as it was in the past. The best part of the meal was the free tomato, mozzerella and wonderful aged ballsamic drizzle. This is the first time they ever brought out a free amuse bousche and it was very welcome. The crinkle cut fries are probably from a bag, but very good in a 'when you were a kid' sort of way. I love them loaded with ketchup and salt and pepper. Sorry Lobster Roll Northside, but after this last visit, I think I will be taking a bit of a break from you. Fish and Chips are almost $25 here ... I cannot in good conscience pay that for more frequently bad meals here. Get your consistency back and you get my business back. It's fish n chips ... hard to mess up.

This place is awesome! We went around lunch time and it was fairly packed. We initially chose to have outdoor seating because it was a nice and breezy day...however, we moved indoors, as there are many bees around due the floral/plant surroundings of the restaurant. Our waiter was very understanding about it. We are not disappointed with the indoor seating. It really felt like you were at home, eating in someones very large dining room. We started with some soups. The lobster bisque actually gave real lobster meat (the claws obviously) and that was a plus. Usually places put imitation crab meat. Next were the steamed clam shells, which we rated as "meh". Very plain. No seasoning. The clams tasted very clean, which is good but I guess it takes away from the eating experience (dipping in water to clean and dipping in butter after). Obviously as entrees we ordered lobster rolls (.....er the place is called Lobster Roll after all). The platter could be served hot or cold but hot lobster usually tastes more flavorful (as recommended by our waiter). It comes with a side order of fries if you want to add a few dollars (crinkle fries yay), coleslaw, and a pickle. You get a special butter toasted white bread bun in which you have to put in the lobster yourself. Let me tell you, they were not cheap with the meat. The amount of meat they give you, you can pretty much make 2 rolls with it. The lobster meat was flavorful and tender, cooked just right. You know a lobster is good when you don't require butter. A bit on the pricey side but lobster rolls are always expense. The drive out from the city is well worth it. Very good experience. (Minus bees of course). Would recommend If you are in the area.

Cannot go wrong with the lobster salad roll with fries. The toasted bun makes it all that much better. Always worth a stop when you're out East.

I came here yesterday with my family for lunch. My wife and I split a oyster po boy and a cold salad lobster roll. We were both very satisfied. My kids on the other hand ordered off the kids menu and got mac and cheese and a burger. The mac and cheese was as stated in other reviews Kraft Mac and cheese microwaved. I'm sorry but if I'm going to pay several dollars for a mac and cheese meal can you please make it yourself. I'm extremely disappointed. Even doctor it up yourself with some extra cheese to make it creamy and delicious. My oldest child ordered a hamburger which tasted burnt and like it came from a frozen box of the cheapest burgers you could get at Stop and shop. I get it this is a seafood place order seafood but if you're going to charge $8.00 for a kids meal because parents bring their kids with them to eat do yourself a favor and use quality ingredients. They get 4 stars because the seafood meals were amazing. The staff was also very gracious and helpful.

I am so glad we stopped to have lunch here while wine tasting. The food was really good. I am crazy for lobster rolls in the summer and this one was pretty spot on. It was not busy when we went, but the wait was a little long. The service is great and take care of their tables well. Next time I am out east visiting family I will ask to hit up the Lobster Roll again!

  • Agnessa U.

Very mediocre. Only reason to come was to try blowfish which was overpowered by breading and tasted like any mild fish in deaped in oil. Lobster roll boring. While calamari rings with blue cheese and how sauce sounded promising they sucked. As a matter of fact these where the worst claimaris in I Tried. Desert menu so unimpressive that I we found nothing to order. Decent: lobster bisque.

Wow what a great outdoor bar........I'm not used to being outside so it was a little too bright for me. I had some clams on the half shell and a glass of Shinn Chard very good. Our table then ordered the lobster roll which was excellent....but at $26.00 I think I will stay underground next time. The staff was pleasant and was able to get me seating as far away from anyone as possible. People tend to stare at my bright white skin and make me feel like curling up and going into a hole. I'll be back as soon as I finsih my next tunnel. Johnny B "Rocker" Mole Man

I finally found a lobster roll better than Lobster Joint's, which had previously been my number one! The Lobster Roll RestaurantThe Lobster Roll RestaurantThe Lobster Roll Restaurant I stopped by this restaurant on the way to the Tanger Outlet in Riverhead. I had heard it opened in 1965 and was the first lobster roll restaurant on Long Island. At first, I wanted to go to the original location on the east end of Long Island, but I ended up going to this one because the other was closed temporarily. It took one and a half hours by car from Brooklyn. There seemed to be only houses and wineries and no other restaurants on Sound Avenue where the restaurant was located. Since it was located in such a remote place, we thought there would not be many customers in the restaurant. However, it was full of locals and we had to wait for a while to get a table. So my husband was starving and we were in the area and against my better judgment we stop here for lunch. We were seated immediately upon walking in, were given menus and were told someone will be right with us. Well that moment never happened and that was fine because as we sat there looking over our menu's we remembered everything we didn't like about LRN. $25.00 for a lobster roll ? Gimme a break, I've had way better for $6-7 less. The gentleman at the table next to us had ordered the lobster roll and it was mostly lobster salad with a few chunks of lobster placed on top. Wine selection is lame and extremely over priced. Beer selection isn't anything special either. We handed our menus back to the hostess and went someplace else to eat. Will never go back here again.

I used to love this place! It used to be sooo gooood! Huge disappointment. My son & I stopped in for lunch last week after visiting the neighboring Gingerbread University. It was pretty slow with only four other people in the restaurant but I assumed the reason was because it was a weekday. Now, after having the food, I'm guessing that's it. We were seated right away (obviously) & our server was friendly. I ordered the Mac & Cheese from the children's menu (says all items are $7.49, including drink) for my son and I ordered the Oyster Po' Boy & a soda (which comes warm, little ice, in a Solo cup). My son's meal comes and it's WAY less than 1 cup measured. And it's Kraft - I asked the server. When I'm at Friendly's & I order the same (Kraft Mac & Cheese) kid's meal, it comes with hot dogs, a drink, & and ice cream for $5.49. And, we ordered Mac & Cheese with Chorizo (all homemade) at Dos Caminos for $5. The server asked if I had a problem with the meal & I explained that it's not the Mac & Cheese I have an issue with, it's that I was expecting something homemade for the price. She seemed to get annoyed & kept telling me that ALL the parents ask for Kraft, then walked away. She came back a few min later to see if I'd like to order something else & we did. A burger, which was so greasy my son couldn't finish it because it was hurting his stomach. As for my sandwich, it was fried but not greasy. However, it tasted gritty & sandy. I couldn't eat most if it because of this. But, fries were hot & crisp and the coleslaw was good. You'll definitely get better food, with better prices, & a better atmosphere if you skip this place and just head to your local diner. I would've given it ZERO stars, given the opportunity. What a shame.

Yo, everyone who has written a review and probably countless to follow - let me point something out: the place is called the lobster roll. Yet, you order something else and say it's not great. Pro tip: order the f*ing lobster roll (hot lobster roll, not the "lobster salad"), no more and no less, don't expect a revelation from the french fries, make sure $26 isn't too much damage in advance, and have a nice time. It's buttery, fresh lobster served on the proper NE style bun--this is exactly what a lobster roll is supposed to be--and if you don't like it, _I cannot save or help you_.

We stopped here on the way back from the annual Horseradish Festival. Really homey interior and friendly bar but we sat outside since it was the first warm day in months. Everything was strange about this experience -- slow/forgetful/absent-minded service, a knife whose handle broke, mediocre steak for $20-25 (but the fish was good!) and meh wine. The best case scenario was that they had just re-opened for the spring season but I can't say I'll be very quick to come back here, especially with all the other spots to dine at in the area.

True to its name, they make a truly good Lobster Roll, both hot and cold. A really nice place on the North Fork near the farms and the wineries. Definitely worth a stop even though it's a little out of the way. Outside seating during the season. Only open on weekends off season. A little pricey, but worth the price and the trip.

I checked yelp for directions and was pleased to find a coupon, provided by the restaurant for $2.00 off a drink as long as an entree was ordered. My husband and I drove over yesterday and at the start of our late lunch, I showed our waiter the coupon on my phone. He said his manager would know what to do to activate it. When he returned with our cocktails, he informed me that we will need to order "an entree" to use the coupon. We ordered 1 soup and a dozen clams to start. I then ordered the Lobster Roll which came with fries and cole slaw. As soon as I ordered this, our waiter said "That is not an entree according to my manager." My husband ordered the puffers plate, which was considered an entree. Other than the soup not being to my husband's taste, the rest of the meal was fine. I was put out by the comment about the $2.00 coupon and my lunch. And then the bill came.... the lobster roll was "market" price, so we had no idea how much it would cost. We were surprised that it cost more than my husband's lunch which was considered "an entree." So, after having spent over $100.00 for drinks and a late lunch, my thought was... Did they really have to make the point about the two dollar coupon? If you are offering something, why not just be gracious and see what the table orders? We got the $2.00 off, but it just felt like it was handled unprofessionally. Kind of like the manager that day must have been 12 years old.

AMAZING!!!! Everything I was hoping for and MORE! I am not a fan of mayo so when I found out they served "hot" lobster roll with no mayo involved I couldn't have been happier! I am still drooling just writing this! My boyfriend had the regular lobster roll and both were so massive and so delicious!!! We. Also started with the thick and creamy New England clam chowder!!! We will definitely be back!!!!

There's nothing like finishing a 5k obstacle race, and going to a restaurant with new friends to sample the foods in Long Island. Yelpers are all about going to places alone and but never eating alone... right? First of all thanks Lobster Roll for accommodating me, who was still completely drenched in mud and manure (ew). Thanks for not chasing me out with a broom. And thanks for letting wash up in your clean bathroom. Yard seating and front porch seating are available. Not much good view but still great for the summer weather. Onto the food. The lobster roll was okay. But supposedly being the flagship menu item, it didn't leave too much impression. The lobster comes as a side from the roll. It becomes cumbersome to fill up the roll with pieces of lobster that will all fall out when you dunk it into the butter sauce. Yes I am that lazy. The lobster itself is extremely buttery. Even without the butter dipping, you could taste the butter inside the lobster. As a fat lover, I have nothing against butter, but I prefer my seafood to be as pure as possible with minimal enhancements. The coleslaw had too much mayo. Fries were crispy and tasty as advertised. The price is just a teensy weensy bit on the expensive side, but cheap considering the neighborhood. My lobster roll is quoted market price, which was 22 dollars. Service was extremely friendly. Overall a solid restaurant to enjoy a nice dinner, but not special enough to go a special destinations list.

Stopped here to grab a quick lunch at around 1 pm while out driving on Saturday. There was plenty of parking and seating, possibly because it was after Labor Day. We were seated quickly and our drink orders were promptly taken. most of us ordered the lobster salad roll and another ordered the London Broil sandwich. the Lobster rollers all agreed that while the sandwich was decent the lobster lacked flavor. The coleslaw was pretty standard which is fine by me but the fries were really good. The London Broil roll was the big hit of the meal - very satisfying. The staff was very friendly and the restaurant was clean and bright. Although we didn't visit the attached establishments, all the tie-ins to the next door Teddy-bear factory, gingerbread university, tasting room gave the experience a bit of a schlocky feel.

We come here every time we get out this way. The food is fresh and the service ROCKS! Christina Mike & Eric as your wait staff = Awesome dining experience! Order the lobster roll or the lobster salad. You won't be sorry! Their seafood bisque and New England chowder are delish as well! Overall, we love this place!

where to start?? Service was so-so-no dinner rolls or bread...We ordered 2 bowls of Clam Chowder(1 Ne and 1 Manhattan)..although both were full of clam chunks..neither was worth $6. My son and I ordered the lobster roll($21)-was on a small hot dog bun-no lettuce nothing extra-Ok-but not worth the money. My wife ordered the Blue Claw crab cake Roll($14) took one bite could not eat it-too salty-too fishy...The waitress took her plate and never asked if something was wrong-since she only took 1 bite of the crab cake-the fires were frozen-the best thing was the home made coleslaw. Total for this mess-$80 with 2 sodas and 1 vodka and tonic. My opinion..far too many other GOOD restaurants on this road between Wading River and Greenport..run don't walk to one of them.

The food is usually pretty good but i find it to be overpriced especially for the ambiance. The plastic tables and chairs and food presentation seem a little cheap

Lobster Roll!!!! I've always wanted to try a lobster roll and after a day out east, we stopped here. I'm always nervous when ordering anything that says market price because it could truly be any price and how would I know besides asking? But when I was here I dove right in and ordered the lobster roll. It was DELICIOUS. And warm. And buttery. And just everything I thought it would / should be. This location apparently is a little more formal and stuffy compaired to the Lobster Roll Southside according to my friends and hopefully I'll try there soon.

Went here for a lobster dinner for my girlfriends birthday, perfect place to end a day of wine tasting. All the seafood we had was great and would recommend to anyone on the north fork.

Whenever the family is on the North Shore picking fruit or hitting wine country we have to stop here for a bite. It's your prototypical seafood fare in a nice calm setting on the way out to the vineyards. Fish and chips are excellent, especially as a kid's meal. Lobster roll is seasoned well but they chop up the meat instead of having lump meat. Prices are a little high for Suffolk County but on par with Manhattan seafood places so there should not be any sticker shock. Service is always decent and friendly. Will keep coming back until we find a better seafood option on the way out far east.

Lobster Roll has taken a nosedive in the past year or so. Today, a person in my group ordered the crab cakes that tasted really funky. I had the fish and chips which were mediocre. For the prices of the items on the menu, this place is not that great. Also, yuppie central. Skip the Lobster Roll and go to the Cooperage Inn down the street. Much better.

I came here after going to the Riverhead Aquarium, which morbidly ALWAYS gets me in the mood for seafood lol. I was really craving a lobster roll, so after looking on my trusty Yelp app, we decided on this place. And it was only a 10 minute drive from the Aquarium. They have some really nice options for seating; Indoor, Outdoor and then also on deck, so you can choose to sit in the sun or in an enclosed area. We opted to sit on the deck. The service was good and the staff was friendly. We started off with the Seafood Mac and Cheese and the Calamari. The Seafood Mac and Cheese was good but I feel like it could have been a little more moist. The Calamari looked almost like onion rings. I'm used to Calamari being small and fat. These were long and thin (EXACTLY like onion rings). The batter was tasty, but I really didn't like the sauce. It tasted like it was out of a can. For my entree I ordered the "Hot" lobster roll, which I was told was "like a lobster without all the work and the roll comes on the side". I wasn't down for all the mayo I saw on the rolls at other tables, so that's what I went for, My boyfriend also went for the same, as it was his first lobster roll experience. The roll was good! It came out with a ramekin filled with lobster meat, a hot roll and fries on the side. oh, and a little side of melted butter, It was delicious! My boyfriend really seemed to enjoy him as well. The bill wasn't too bad, each lobster roll plate was about $24, market price. It was not my favorite roll (my favorite is still here in the city, Luke's Lobster), but it definitely was delicious and I would not be opposed to coming here again :)

If you love bottom feeding crustaceans in the ocean that feed on the finest creatures, then you probably love lobsters. The Lobster Roll Northside serves up a fairly decent lobster roll though not the best I've had on the NoFo. That award goes to the North Fork Table's Food Truck. The Lobster Roll originally started in Amagansett and this is their other location, in Riverhead on Sound Ave. AND here goes: Crustaceans chopped up in a bun: + It was generally very good. VERY hearty from a lobsterry standpoint, the mayo was just right though some people might find it overly creamy, the salt and pepper content was good, it had a good combination of veggies (celery, onions etc) though I think it could've benefitted from some tarragon or something similar herby to kick it up a notch. This is one of the things that I think really help the North Fork Table/Food Truck's lobster roll and sets it apart from others. Carbs: + The bun was good, moist, fresh and wasn't stale. It was a bit too thick/carby for my liking however most will find it okay. Potato things fried in grease: + They are greasy, salty, peppery and thick. They pair well with mayo and ketchup...not the worst I've had, not the best. I'm not sure if the North Fork Table's Lunch Truck is open year round but I'd rather spend the extra $2-$3 for their lobster roll as opposed to the Lobster Roll's Lobster Roll. Though it was still "good..." THIS has been a review by Gaurav

I came here with boyfriend in search of a great lobster roll. What we got was...well, not that. Let's start at the very beginning (a very good place to start!) The seating is beautiful, inside is "meh" decorations but outside there is a screened-in porch which looked really nice! If it hadn't been a bit on the chilly side last night, we would have dined out there! We started with the fried calamari which we split. I'm fairly certain the breaded calamari rings (rings only, no tenticles) came out of a bag pre-breaded...they were lacking in flavor and seasoning, no salt or pepper that I could see, it was as if they dumped them out of the freezer bag and into the fryer, plated them, and didn't bother adding s+p. We added a little lemon, salt, and pepper and it was better. The sauce was gross...I mean, prego is better than the bitter red chunks "sauce" we were given.** I ordered the dinner salad with caesar dressing, the dressing was great! *** Boyfriend had the broiled seafood dish (complete with stuffed flounder, shrimp, and sea scallops) which he had with rice. He said it was "ok" but mentioned at the end of the meal that he'd be ok with not coming back. As an entree I had the lobster roll with french fries and a peach bellini. My bellini was alright, although it tasted as though it was made with flat white wine, peach syrup, and sprite....as a bartender, this is not what I was expecting. * The lobster roll was pretty good although nothing spectacular...the french fries were over-cooked and had that potato chip texture that one does not look for in a french fry. The combo gets * The service wasn't great either, the waitress took our order and was friendly enough but never checked back to see if everything was ok and at the end of the meal, she didn't offer us desert or coffee or anything but simply dropped the check and walked away. We waited another ten minutes for her to return to take the payment which was $89.00. My advice? Go elsewhere for good seafood, this isn't the place for that or good service. Unless of course you're ok with spending nearly $100.00 for mediocre food and bad service.

Best lobster roll in Suffolk county. I ordered the bisque (incredibly rich) and the seafood mac as well. They use rotini in the mac instead of elbows and the cheese has a weird taste so I don't recommend it. Will definitely go back for the roll, though.

The joint has been going downhill steadily for a few years now. And I can only write about the Northside. Haven't been out to the original in Amagansett some time. First of all, how can you serve up lousy calamari on Long Island? It's a staple for us here. And yet, they give you mushy, frozen rings (no tentacles at all) and they come out greasy and tasteless. The lobster rolls are ridiculously over-priced. The blow fish are okay and the fish and chips was actually good. But shame on a fish joint if they can't batter and fry a piece of cod. Everything was served lukewarm at best. And the place wasn't so crowded that you can just call it a bad day. It's a bad meal.

Went here last night, for the second time. First let me say that the service was good. Sadly, the food, once again, was not. Seafood pasta was filled with the unwanted parts of the lobster, and was heavy, not in a good way. Same for the lobster bisque. "Grandma's Crabcakes" should be called "Filler with a tiny bit of crab." On the plus side, the coleslaw which comes with just about everything, is decent.

We saw this 'complex' advertised in the North fork magazine we picked up at the ferry terminal. We had decided to stop in for lunch and check out the new wine/beer/food tasting barn. We were extremely disappointed to find that it hadn't opened yet. So we decided to eat lunch at the Lobster roll where we found the lobster prices to be outrageous. I settled on a crab cake sandwich and my husband had the clam strip roll. Neither was anything work bragging about. I should have stuck with my gut and picked another fantastic option using my Yelp app. You live, you learn and then you Yelp!

It's very rare that you get good old-fashioned service, great food, in a wonderful location for a great price. The Lobster Roll, Northside is the finest as it gets. From their wonderful turkey burgers, to their calamari and clam chowder soups, you will enjoy a wonderful eastern LI experience here. The prices are excellent and next to some small mom and pop shops that make the whole dining experience well-worth it. During the holiday season, you can also enjoy the Gingerbread University where you can decorate your own gingerbread house which is guaranteed fun for the whole family.

I can honestly say I'm not really sure if this place should get 3 or 4 stars but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. You see the only time I stop here and we've been here at least a half dozen times it's been on the way back from visiting the nearby wineries. So with wine goggles on I will say they have the best dam lobster roll I ever had. No filler, big chunks off lobster. They also make an outstanding Lobster Mac and Cheese. They do have fish and other stuff on the menu. But this is the only things I order here. Also, a tip this place gets crowded on weekends, if they tell you it's an hour wait, just go sit at the bar and have a drink and order your meal there. It's never crowded.

Friendly service very fresh food but it was a little dirty we sat out side at a little table by the railing it needed so bad to be power washed you know from the green stuff from being on the north shore it just wasn't nice looking at it while you ate since the table was smacked next to it the food was good but it needed an up date and a good cleaning

Not great. Yummy cole slaw and fries. Lobster roll slider was alright. Fish and chips (cod) was nowhere near the fish and chips I've had in the past. It's the north fork of the Hamptons area - can't be picky, I guess.

This is a good local place, with plenty of atmosphere but it needs to make some changes to stay on top of it's game. We went there today and had an overall good experience. Our waitress was friendly and did a good job. It is a bit pricey but I suppose that comes with the neighborhood. Our dinner, the crabcakes and mahimahi were very good. The french fried were poor, more like the frozen supermarket type. That's not what you expect when you go out for a meal. The desserts were excellent but they are bought from the local markets--not a problem but a reminder that all the cooking isn't done on the premises. They had a local guy on the acoustic guitar playing and that was a nice touc.

Hubby and I stop here about once a year, the lobster rolls are very respectable. But, another reason to make the trek is because they have puffers! Lightly battered and fried, and pricey, but a succulent treat to enjoy.

I'm a little torn in writing this review. On the one hand, this the sort of the place that I want to love and support: a 'small business,' the kind of place that has boutiques and gift shops around it even though it's sort of in the middle of nowhere, distinctly non-corporate and non-chain (even though there's apparently at least one other location). But on the other hand, the service here really sucks. Came here with a group of eight around 4pm on a Sunday. The place was busy, but by no means packed. So why did we have to wait 45 minutes for a table? When I could see several tables open the entire time? Why did we get paged that our table was ready, only to be told that there had been a pager mix-up and really we still had to wait? Why did our server, Cathy, disappear for long periods of time repeatedly? Why did I finally have to get up and get silverware and napkins for our table even though I had asked two separate people for place settings? I left a 15% tip out of guilt (I typically tip 20%) and have been kicking myself ever since because it really deserved more like 5%. I will say that the Fish & Chips dish was yummy. But I can get that just about anywhere. No need to drive all the way out here to be treated like a second-class citizen. I recommend avoiding Lobster Roll. And you can trust me; I'm an Elite. ;)

My husband and I used to live in Long Island and wanted to share the authentic Lobster Roll experience with our kids. The Lobster Roll slider with cole slaw is as good as it gets. The roll is filled with chunks of fresh lobster claw meat, celery and mayo. Simple and the best we have ever had. On a personal note, I want to especially thank Dana Bondsen. We drove back to our hotel in New York when my daughter realized she forgot her purse. We called The Lobster Roll and Dana assured us that the purse was there and had tried to locate a number to call us. Needless to say, we drove back to Riverhead (two hour drive from New York) and decided to have dinner. We tried the Lobster Bisque and the Seafood Gumbo. Both were outstanding! Customer service is lacking in many places it seems, but Dana was fantastic!!! Dana went above and beyond and we really appreciated it. Our meal was delicious, and the service was even better.

Not gonna lie, I was kinda surprised to receive a deal e-mail for Lunch during the week following MDW, even amid rumors about their recent success (or lack thereof) & endangered sustainability. That said, their Newsday $20 for $40 voucher was only valid for dine-in during the week on non-holidays with a minimum $50 purchase (and can't be combined). The site for this joint is beyond antiquated and not very informative, 'open at 11:30 for lunch and dinner' - simultaneous meals? '[C]asual family dining at it's [sic[ best and Open: April to Christmas, Fri., Sat., Sun, spring and fall, Six days in summer, closed Tuesday.' - if you can decipher that, you're a better person than I. A savvy reader may notice that I penned a a rather concise and fairly useless review of the seemingly flawless LRN on NYE a few years back. Naive adolescence and delirious Yelping do not a good combination make...either that or the quality here just fell off a cliff. My most recent visit was on a humid but relatively cool Wednesday evening and we dined al fresco along with the other families, the fragrances of citronella and cleaning products permeating the atmosphere. Once we were seated, our eyes both darted to the dead flowers, a fitting centerpiece for a disjointed meal for an eatery in decline. Aside from that (and the loud voiced complaint regarding a previous visit of return diners at the adjacent table), the setting is more quaint than I remembered, especially given it's within shouting distance of the main motorist drag of the area. We made the mistake of confirming up front that we didn't need to present our voucher; well, either that or the service is just roundly slow for everyone - waters left unrefilled, plates taking quite a while to be whisked away, etc. It admittedly took us some time to decide on which of the fried items to commit to, given that they comprise a majority of the menu, mainly the same creature manipulated slightly for different portions/courses. Despite realizing the implications of a seafood joint that's primarily submerging their product in the deep fryer to render it character-less, we made the mistake of going with a half-dozen raw clams to start, which were on a bed of water and a couple ice cubes (if the ice is already melted when you receive your raw seafood, you wonder if their off taste is the chicken or the egg of the situation). Despite the most bountiful crustacean harvest in recent memory, the eponymous lobster roll remained $21.95 (MP) and inspired no raves. I went with soft shell crab platter ($22.95), being the tail end of the season, but it dawned on me after ordering that they were a mainstay on the menu and had a fixed price - peculiar & unnerving. The side of slaw accompanying the overly batter-y duo was some cabbage atop a ghastly pool of mayo, a delightful aftermath to complement the rest of the elegant meal. Service was friendly enough but certainly amateur hour, no fault of the waitresses or busboys. The bill was tricky, taxing on the full price of the meal, contrary to almost all other deals I've redeemed elsewhere (not sure if this is a Newsday or Lunch policy, but do acknowledge that it made gratuity less painful to determine). Concurrent Smartphone users (with the Foursquare app) and Amex customers will also be happy to know that they can check in and load an offer for a $5 statement credit for a $10 purchase. I wouldve been outraged if I truly dropped full price for this outing, something ridiculous like $60 pretip - portions were large and greasy enough to hold you over 'til the next morning, but that's a more regrettable hole in the pocket. Sure, you might counter that the total is a result of the respective 'going rates' (aka year-round market price) if prepared properly, but given that Lunch is a nice outdoor spot if you plan to get slightly raucous and divert focus away from the food, I suppose it's worth the price if that's your intention, and perhaps even if not? If local law enforcement wielded butter breathalyzers, I would've been arrested immediately after leaving the misshapen lot. (PS They consider it Baiting Hollow, Yelp/gMaps.) If I ever return, I'll stop being foolish and just go with the (of course fried and not-flatteringly described on the menu) Puffer instead. I wish I could recommend Lunch strictly to revive it, but I just can't anymore - we'll see how long these last legs keep it upright.

For a place that is supposedly known for -- and named for -- their lobster roll, the poor quality may come as quite a surprise. My wife and I ordered their "famous" lobster rolls for lunch this afternoon and were terribly disappointed. The pieces of lobster in the salad were tasteless and mushy, clearly indicating the stuff was not fresh. Adding to our disappointment, the cole slaw was watery and the french fries were clearly the frozen, store-bought kind. Oh, and don't look up: the dust covered fake ivy and plants will make your skin crawl. The final kicker? When our lunch bill arrived at nearly $50.

This is a great place to have a meal before you start wine tasting along the 25 route. You can either take a carryout to have a picnic at the wineries or eat there. We tried the puffer, deep-fried puffer, aka blow fish, for the first time. It tastes great, a cross between frog leg and cod fish. The lobster is perfectly cooked. The lobster on the croissant is nice. My daughter loves lobster bisque. The best of all is the service. The staff is very kind and efficient.

After pumpkin picking out east, this place was conveniently located across the street from the pumpkin patch so we decided to come here (plus, we heard they had good lobster rolls...well you better if your name is "lobster roll"). You can tell immediately that the entire staff was stressed because of how busy it was. The hostess told us it would be 45 minutes for a table which we weren't too happy about. Apparently she could pick up on it and then told us we could sit immediately if we wanted to go outside. It was a little cold, but we opted for the outside table. Apparently when she did this, she offered this option to 3 other tables simultaneously which meant that one waitress had 3 new tables all at once. The waitress was nice, but way over her head with everything. That being said, food is what's most important and overall we all had a great meal. We started with seafood nachos which were pretty good, but not "amazing" like the waitress indicated. It was mostly regular, ordinary nachos with a couple pieces of scallops and shrimp thrown in. For dinner I got the lobster roll slider with a cup of lobster bisque. Lobster bisque was very good and so was the lobster roll (the cole slaw that it came with was one of the best I've had). Funny thing was they kept bringing candles out to our table so we could see when we were waiting on drinks and things that were more important (and plus the candles didn't really help with the lighting at all). The waitress did try really hard and she was nice so points for that. If you're in the area, definitely recommended although I'd try and go when the crowds are a little less.

What makes a seafood restaurant in Long Island famous knowing the high concentration of nasal, yappy, elitist New Yorkers that vocalize every unpleasantry over dinner with relentless, perpetually dour, gusto? Offering a kick ass Lobster Roll Slider packed with luscious lobster claw for only eight dollars a pop certainly helps. The Lobster Roll in Riverhead New York, gives you a taste of Cape Cod without the forced Kennedy accents or the silent, gloom and doom, , Samuel Adams sipping routine. The Lobster Roll is less preppy than those family friendly vacation haunts in the Cape and much less class conscious than those sand dune hoarders that resent tourists as much as Arizona resents illegal immigration. I sat on the Patio with my fiancé while a two man band played in a charming courtyard while belting out classic covers like Midnight Hour and Knocking on Heaven's Door which isn't your typical Saturday afternoon set list in the Cape where Jack Johnson is considered too heavy . I keep on bringing up Cape Cod because the Lobster Roll restaurant is modeled after those bright yet white worn summer cottages that radiate warm, nurturing vibes in that safe 1950's enclosed, cocoon sort of way. . The Soft Shell Crab Po Boy was beyond wow worthy. I've never tasted such flaky, lemony light specs of greatness in my life. The wedge indented fries that came with it were delicious. So was the creamy fresh slaw that was savory, crunchy and filling by itself. I even fell in love with my dill Pickle, which I considered packing up and taking home with me but I'm not a 85 year old Jewish Grandma so that's not acceptable behavior yet. I only skimmed the surface at the Lobster Roll yet this menu is loaded with fish filled treasures that are more substantial, dinner worthy events. Don't take it from me, just check out the list of all the famous Jewish Comedians that have dined there, it starts from Jackie Mason to Rodney to Seinfeld, icon, icon, icon. Can a Seafood Restaurant that housed such big names in comedy get any more iconic than that?

The food is great! They have little shops around the area. The family and I go out there during the fall when pumpkin picking. The have a great lunch menu. And I love the atmosphere. They have an outdoor area to sit also. And it is decorated for Christmas and Halloween. It's great for children and family's. I simply enjoy getting the Clam Chowder and crackers on the side.

Where to start...how about with the food? The stuffed flounder looked like it was cooked in an Easy Bake oven. Burnt to a crisp on the outside, the inside was mushy and flavorless. The "jumbo" soft shell crabs were just barely over the size limit. Far from jumbo, unless you're counting the 2lbs of batter that covered each one. The french fries, which we were told were "amazing" by our friendly server, were nothing more than frozen diner fries. We left with unsettled stomachs and a gaping hole in our wallet which we couldn't quite understand. In what universe, other than at the airport, do you pay $22 per plate for food that make McDonald's look gourmet. The help was friendly - the only saving grace for this establishment. They get one gold star for that. Recommendation: if you're in the area and looking for a good meal, head on down to the Cooperage Inn - great food (including seafood), same prices and you won't feel violated in several ways as you pay your bill and leave. It's just a stone's throw to the west on the north side of Sound Ave. Worst dining experience of 2009 so far. Thanks Lobster Roll!

If you want to have one of these famous East End lobster rolls, you have a much better chance here than at the popular Amagansett one. They have several different rooms (the outside being really nice) and have your standard fish sandwiches, burgers, and fries. But the star of the meal was absolutely the onion rings. I don't know what they do to them, but they are heavenly.

I came here by accident and it was a pleasure. I was going to a vineyard with my family and looking for a place to eat. Due to my trusty iPhone Lobster Roll showed up when did a local search. Since we were in Riverhead my sister called a friend who grew up there to see if she knew about it and as it turns out she used to work there so she recommended it. My dad went to college and lived in Boston after graduating so he's a bit of a snob when it comes to seafood and he loved the New England clam chowder as did I. I also got a lobster roll which was very yummy. I would definitely recommend this place and would for sure go again.

I was not impressed at all with the food and it is definitely overpriced. I will give it one more try because I didn't really try any of their seafood dishes other than the peel n eat shrimp which were just okay. The chicken fingers were dry and didn't taste good at all and the fries were bland. The ice cream was pretty good but the chocolate mousse cake was terrible - dried out and stale. The kids menu is decent - my daughter had the mac n cheese which was just Kraft but that's what she likes so I can't complain. There is a cute playground there for the kids and the outdoor seating area is very nice. The staff was wonderful and it' would be a nice place to stop for lunch while driving around the north shore but it didn't meet my expectations considering all the hype it has.

Stopped in for dinner after a few hours at the Wineries. The food was amazing - we split chowder, lobster mac and cheese, and a oyster po boy. The ambiance was great and we were seated out on a deck, which was nice. Prices were very reasonable and the service was great. I would definately recommend the lobster roll as a stop on any LI wine tour!

Went here because Ive been to the other location and liked it very much, unfortunately this location doesn't live up to the name. Really like the layout and chose to eat outside. They have a nearby playground for children which is a bit too close to the outside eating area, nice if you have kids, but not so great if you want to enjoy your meal in peace. Unfortunately we had a group of parents who chose to take advantage of the play area, but chose to eat inside, leaving the large group of children unattended. We started off with the mussels in red sauce, I'm a little apprehensive about eating mussels but the wife wanted them. The waiter let us know the mussels would take 10 minutes to prepare and they did. When the mussels came out they where in white sauce. When I mentioned this to the waiter he seemed already aware of the mistake but said that they had started on our entrees and the mussels in red sauce would have to come out after our meal, we passed and ate the mussels which although not what we ordered happened to be good. My wife ordered pan seared scallops and I ordered the lobster roll which was good. My wife's scallops came out fried not pan seared, which was unfortunate because you could tell that the scallops had been of good quality but cooked at a low heat in oil they tasted bad. We complained but nothing was done and in the end nothing was removed from the check.

The place is decent for the atmosphere and taking a easy day, the food is eh ok but nothing that blows me away, we ordered for two of us, a Calamari that was decent but possibly frozen which was upsetting, it was slightly chewy but crispy. My girlfriend had fish and chips and I had a soup, hmm this is where it got interesting... We do not drink (A iced tea) and our bill for lunch was about $60+ with tip? For lunch, with no alcohol? Seems a bit pricey for mostly fried food. Try Buoy one next time in Riverhead, cheaper and better.

I've been to this place many times. The food is not bad, but the prices are too high. A small piece of cake cost $7. Servers were friendly, but very young and inexperienced. You ask them questions and they are: "I do not know".

Anytime I'm in the area, a stop at the Lobster Roll is a must! The calamari is perfectly sized, the crab cakes are very tasty and the coleslaw...excellent!

The place does a great job with fried seafood. Let's face it at $22 per, the lobster roll is really hard to justify, even on a holiday weekend. Try to look past the dingy surroundings, the crinkle cut Sysco french fries and the powdered tetley tea iced tea. The fried clams and flounder were pretty awesome. I suppose you could do the chowder and the lobster roll here if you were ready to plop down $150 on a cheesy snack bar. I'm not sure I know too many people who are signed up for that in this economy.

I used to love going here, until I got sick right after eating a lobster roll. I have eaten them there two other times, and the third time was not a charm. I do not recommend it. It is also very overpriced.

we did take out for lunch, yeah we noticed there is a lot of staff there - just thought it was cause it was between the lunch and dinner shifts . . . anyway flounder sandwich perfect, just perfect, as well as the coleslaw, my mom had the soft-shell crab sandwich and she liked it as well. both clam chowders were great (Manhattan and New England) - yeah the quarts of chowders to go did seem pricey
