This is my new favorite Italian restaurant in Manhattan! Recently totally enthralled by my experience at PT, I've been on a crazy Italian kick lately. I love everything about Italy, about Italian food, about Italian people, I just can't get enough of all of it. We set out yesterday to go to Rosemary's because my friend really wanted to try it. After taking advantage of Arabesque's happy hour (2 huge glasses of wine for $9? Yes, please), we headed on down to the West Village, where I dread expensive bills and over-hyped grub but also know there are some seriously good restaurants lurking around. Ironically enough, the night went down like this: Walking on the way to Rosemary's, Grano Trattoria catches my eye. I say, "oh this looks good," but alas kept walking, figuring it could be months until I make it here because let's be real, I say that all the time. We arrive to what is a hectic, crowded, and loud Rosemary's, and we're told it's a two hour wait. Slightly drunk, entirely hungry and totally disinterested, we say "f*@# that," and set back out to the streets. My friend Alissar has this thing about always wanting to thoroughly examine Yelp reviews and menus before going anywhere, but I like to live on the edge and blaze the trail. So with what was surprisingly less convincing than I thought would be needed, we were asking for a table for two at Grano. I fell in love with this restaurant. Immediately upon walking in, it smells incredible. The server at the door was so friendly and sat us down in the main dining room. Handed a wine menu, a dinner menu and a big basket of fluffy bread and olive oil, I was already sold. I'll be back as soon as possible to try everything on the menu. There is a certain balance that New York City Italian restaurants struggle with, and that is finding a way to make your menu creative and unique without messing with what is the classic cuisine of Italy. I don't want weird fusion or trendy ingredients interrupting what my people have been eating for centuries. Grano has perfectly found that balance. The menu looked unlike any I have seen here in the city and yet 100% authentic. I have to also point out, in addition to the amazing food, the even better service. Maurizio, the owner, was absolutely wonderful, so friendly and hospitable and we just loved him! Our two servers that we also had were so great as well. They knew the menu, they had suggestions, and they were perfectly friendly and attentive. I can't stop dreaming of our experience last night. Okay, onto the food. We literally died, we were giggling because the food was that good. A must must is the sautéed artichokes with pancetta, basil pesto & sheep's milk cheese. The artichoke was seasoned beautifully and had such a great texture and then you would get a chunk of pancetta and just want to taste what you're tasting forever. I need to eat that again ASAP. The baby octopus with spicy tomato sauce as well as the braised spicy meatballs with toasted garlic bread and tomato sauce were also ecstasy-inducing. For our mains we shared a casarecci pasta with wild boar sausage & mushrooms, and the risotto of the day which was with mushrooms and gorgonzola. I knew I was at an authentic Italian restaurant when upon asking what the risotto of the day was, we were told, "well whatever you'd like, shrimp, asparagus, what do you like." So we said whatever is best and what we were brought was phenomenal. I'm very particular about my risotto because my mother makes it so well. Grano knows how to make a risotto. I cannot rave about this restaurant enough, it does not have a single flaw! Wine, espresso, appetizers, pastas, risottos, bread, all came to about $55 including tip. This certainly is Brooklyn Munch approved and I cannot wait to return! Maurizio also has a new restaurant in Lower East Side called Taverna di Bacco, you know I scoped that menu, and you know I'll be going as soon as possible. It looks so good. A Maurizio--grazie mille per il mio preferito ristorante italiano nuovo, volgio a tornare ogni giorno!

Oh no it's closed down! Best Bolognese I've ever had. Big loss for the neighborhood. The sign says they have another location in LES by Katz's. . .

Grano Trattoria is a good place for Italian in the West Village. The service is superior, and the food is good. A couple things prevent me from giving this place four stars, however. The first was a small thing, but I find it annoying. A number of us selected special items listed on a blackboard, but when the server arrived, we were told the blackboard wasn't accurate and the specials were listed on sheets he distributed. (Is it difficult to erase and update the blackboard?) More concerning was that half of our party seemed not to get exactly the dish they ordered. My friend ordered a Gorgonzola risotto, and he could taste no Gorgonzola in his risotto. I ordered a chicken ravioli, and there was no chicken evident in my dish. To be sure, the meals were good, but it seemed Grano Trattoria had some difficulty aligning the kitchen with the menus and patrons' orders. I would try it again--the place is cozy and the service was very friendly--but I expect the next time I will get what I ordered.

IN SHORT: An easygoing Italian spot with decent food and an older, more casual atmosphere than nearby neighborhood establishments. THE STORY: Despite its simple, comforting space with beige, plaster wash walls and light wood accents, Grano Trattoria suffers from an inconsistency of execution across a menu that is otherwise diverse and well-priced, with pasta dishes averaging around $15. While the appetizers were strong overall, the Gnocchi with ricotta di bufala and roasted bell peppers was unbearably gummy in the few places it wasn't grainy, and the creamy sauce overpowered the only successful notes of pepper in the dish. The Rigatoni alla Bolognese was much more appealing, although also sauce-laden and one-dimensional, leaving one feeling a little underwhelmed at the end of the meal. For better or for worse, the kitchen at Grano is clearly not trying to reinvent the wheel of Italian food, although the service and hospitality of the staff is extraordinarily friendly, clearly dedicated to providing the best possible experience for their diners. Even if it means closing the front door on a chilly evening every time it sticks open, the level of attentiveness from the staff is nicely appreciated, making Grano a pleasant choice for a plate of pasta that resembles a home-cooked meal, variables and all.

I have to say, I've lived in the West Village for a while and for some reason never tried this place before. It's now become one of my favorites! The service is wonderful and the food is delicious and perfectly executed. Italian food is always best when composed with simple ingredients that are allowed to shine through. The pastas are always perfectly cooked, the cocktails are excellent. The pizza! It's not a hip place. It's not Rosemary's, where you wait for an hour to eat mediocre food. This is a neighborhood place with real food; something that becoming are and scarce in the WV. Go here!

This is a great - easy to find restaurant in the Village that makes delicious, homemade pasta. The ambiance is perfect for a small group, or a casual date for two - but definitely would advise making reservations no-matter what the party size. I've gotten multiple dishes in the past, ranging from the gnocchi - which was decadent and delicious, to the squid ink pasta which was also very good. I'll always consider coming here if i'm in the area.

So damn good. The pizza daviolia was fantastic. The meatballs were good but the pizza was really the star of the show. Service was good too, I would definitely come back.

Stopped in here with my mom for margarita pizza. I thought it was super greasy. It's very classic Italian. But my mom absolutely loved it and ranked it up among one of the best pizzas she has had, so I am giving a four rating. I will put it in between our likes.

Hands down one of the best small Italian joints in the West Village. My friends and I have been coming around for years, and I am ashamed to just be getting around to reviewing now. They food is absolutely amazing, and so reasonably priced. I recommend getting a pizza to start, and diving right into one of their great homemade pasta dishes. We had a dinner for 15 people at Grano last Friday, and the staff was extremely accommodating throughout the entire process. They did not rush us at all, and the food was fantastic as usual. We had multiple bottles of wine, shared appetizers for the table, and desert and everyone was so pleased with the experience and price. A++++

I came here with my wife expecting a quiet and relaxed environment. I didn't find that. The pasta was somehow ok, but if you've tried real Italian food (in Italy), this food is far far away from that (more than the 8000 miles away from Italy). Drinks are pretty out of price by the way...

The GNOCCHI here is incredible. Best gnocchi I have had in my life. They used to have carafes of wine which I really liked but they've discontinued that unfortunately. It's a great place to get Italian food with friends or family. I've gone plenty of times without a reservation and am still able to get a table without waiting - pretty rare for a great restaurant in NYC! I would have given it 5 stars if they still had the carafes because those were perfect when I came to have a meal with a friend and didn't want to get a bottle.

Great spot, I had the chicken and sweet potatoes and it was amazing. Not too heavy and perfectly healthy. It was quiet for a weeknight so they didn't rush us, and our waiter was very polite and knowledgable when we had questions regarding the wine list.

Nice and warm place where you can have a fantastic Dinner sign by Maurizio ;) I tryed insalata grano, good portion and tasty, then you can't miss casarecci alla cacciatora : homade with mushroom and wild boar sausage.... Delicious.... Everything pair with interesting wines, personally i like primitivo ;) I'll came back for sure Enjoy

Great little place in the heart of the West Village. I know everyone raves about Rosemary, which is just ok, but give this place a shot, you'll be pleasantly surprised. Try the Sangria on a Saturday night. Won't get you drunk or give you a hangover!

This place was great. Needed a place to eat after the parade and were greeted quickly and warmly at the door. They had to do some rearranging to fit our party of five but they managed and I appreciated the effort. Service was very polite and prompt for the dining room being as crowded as it was. Everyone in our party had something different and everyone was satisfied. Some had specials, one had pizza, and I had the pasta with mushrooms and wild boar. Everyone was happy and full by the time we were finished. Prices were reasonable for NYC. I'd come back.

Huge fan of this place. When I used to work on 7th avenue I'd dine here at least once every two weeks. Delicious. The portions are sort of small but the quality makes up for it. I recommend the pasta! yum yum gnocchi especially. The decor is very cozy and romantic. The service is on point. The last time I was here we were offered complimentary glasses of prosecco while we waited for a table to be cleared. That's what I'm talkkkkkkingggg about. Beautiful. Molto buona. Must revisit soon.

Great spot! Went for dinner on a Saturday night around 7. We were seated promptly by very friendly staff. We had a few glasses of wine, which were priced appropriately, and the mozzarella caprese for an app. For dinner, we had the pizza alla diavola and rigatoni alla bolognese - both were tasty! For dessert, we had the dessert special - a hazelnut and eggplant concoction which was intriguing and good as well. Definitely stop by and check out Grano!

Grano is a perfect example of a "go to" neighborhood restaurant. We had an incredible meal tonight - started with the cheese plate and bruschetta, then the Brussel sprouts and eggplant parm, then the excellent al dente linguine vongole. The hostess/owner and waitstaff were extremely friendly and accommodating (on Valentine's Day) and we will definitely be back for seconds.

What a joke the pasta was like rubber and the service Was horrible and the manager came out to fix the situation but was the biggest A-hole and pretty much added herself and her restaurant to the list things to avoid In NewYork so your trip doesn't suck

Great price, service and food. Our waiter took on the role of sommelier when I wasn't a fan of the Melbec I ordered and we ended up with a great inexpensive bottle of red I would have never known about. Free coat check, friendly staff and village feel. I highly recommend Grano for an easy night out that won't break the bank.

My girlfriend and I stumbled upon this place after a long day walking around the city. We started off with the Carciofini alla Romana (artichokes, pancetta, pesto, and sheep's milk) which might have been my favorite thing I ate all day, until I had the Casarecci con salsiccia di Cinghiale & funghi (wild boar sausage and mushrooms) as the main course. Very authentic! Great service, good bar, pleasant atmosphere. I especially liked the wood burning oven set in the corner of the kitchen. Thanks for a great time from two west coasters!

Full disclosure: it was a cold night and the three of us had been walking for a while. We had hoped to get into Rosemary's (which I really enjoyed once before). Sadly, they told us we would have a two hour wait (around 10pm). Our eyes looked across the street to see Grano Trattoria and decided to try our luck. Unlike most of the customers in the restaurant, we didn't have a reservation. Our frozen hands and tired feet must have come through in our puppy dog eyes as the hostess was happy to find us seating at the bar. I happen to enjoy eating at bars and we wanted to be warm and eat so off we went! Grano is a medium sized restaurant with an area in the front, a small bar (where we sat) in the middle and then a wider area in the back. Some of the tables look a bit close together, but no more than most New Yorkers are used to. The bartender was very sweet and attentive (even remembering what wine one of us wanted when we had only mentioned it in passing). Here's a rundown of the dishes that we tried: Spaghetti al sugo di pomodoro (Spaghetti in tomato sauce with Basil) This was the most basic and sadly the most disappointing of the dishes. The sauce was very thin and thus didn't really carry over significant flavor. The basil was nice, but a restaurant at this level should really be able to do a more robust tomato sauce. Fettuccine del boscaiolo (Whole wheat fettuccine with mushroom ragu) This was the dish I chose. I love a good mushroom based dish and this did not disappoint. The pasta was perfectly good and the choice of whole wheat pasta with mushrooms was a great choice as the overall dish had a wonderfully earthy flavor to it. Maltagliati with Spicy Lamb Ragu This was a special item, not found on the daily menu. The name is a tad misleading as the sauce was not spicy at all. However, the dish did have a wonderfully deep lamb and tomato flavor and the maltagliati was cooked perfectly and provided a really satisfying bite along with the bites of lamb. I enjoyed my time at Grano Trattoria. Truth be told, if the spaghetti in tomato sauce had been better there'd be one more star added to this review, but I'd definitely eat here again.

Not a bad place at all. We stumbled in after the waiting times over at Agave and DeSantos were just way too ridiculous.. Thanks Super Bowl XLVIII -_- Anyway, we wanted to eat, and we wanted to eat NOW, so we walked in and just grabbed seats. They offer brunch and we saw a few things that immediately caught our attention on the menu. We quickly ordered some tap water and two bellinis. The bellinis were made with a fair amount of prosecco, but weirdly the champagne glasses were never filled to the top; not sure what that was about. Bellinis are $5 here, and I think that if they offered a Bottomless Brunch option, like DeSantos and Agave do, this place would be packed the same. The Bellinis here are better than the mimosas at both of those places, in terms of flavor. My friend ordered the pizza, which I won't knock because it was REALLY fresh, and I had the eggs benedict with prosciutto which was actually very good. Service was prompt. Minus a star for not filling up our champagne glasses to the top with their delicious Bellinis, and minus one star for not competing with their neighbors and joining in on the Bottomless Brunch (mimosas) trend. Still, a VERY good Bellini.

Courteous and attentive waitstaff, strong mimosas in tall flutes... what's not to like? Oh, maybe the decor and the bland food.

Never again. Sorry! Really wish I could leave a good review, but today was beyond disappointing. :( Had 11:45 reservations for 7 ppl and the entire place was empty. We were the only ones there at first. The place smelled like dirty mop water the entire time. But that's just the start. We were looking forward to a pitcher of sangria (which is on the menu) but we're told they no longer served sangria or any pitchers/carafes for that manner. What?? Anyway we ordered: 2 pizzas, 4 waffles w/ ham cheese and egg, eggs Benedict and a bowl of plain spaghetti for a child. -nothing crazy! Only 2 pizza arrived in 45 minutes. We were told the rest would arrive shortly. Fast forward 20 minutes later, the 4 waffle dishes finally arrived. We were starving!!! And the two that ordered pizza were already done with their dish. Another 10 minutes go by before the pasta arrived and 10 more after that the Eggs Benedict finally came out. I was shocked that this was acceptable. (Ham in the Eggs Benedict was way over cooked. But they comped it because of the wait. -by the way, we never complained, but the waiter knew our experience was not pleasant.) By that time 3 more couples arrived. Within minutes, one couples was so disappointed with the wait, they left! Another couple got up at least 3 times to check on their order. It was nuts! The service was terrible and the food mediocre. We will never go back. It's a shame because it's a nice little restaurant with a brick oven right in my neighborhood. Completely mismanaged. Hope they can get their act together soon! (Now I know why the place was empty.)

I have been coming to Granos since 1999. Maurizio the owner, has to be one of the nicest chefs I have met in a long time. Always there to greet (when he is not in Italy of course), making sure everything is cooked to perfection. We were probably weekly patrons until we moved out of the city and even still, would try to eat there every couple months. My son grew up on his pasta, brick oven pizza and gelato. I am now in Boston and will still try to get there once a year. My favorites always being his risotto with asaparagus and beef carparccio. I wish he would open a place here in Boston, but in the mean time, will still enjoy my yearly visits. It says a lot when a restaurant in NYC has been around, in the same place and owned by the same person for 15 years.

Mediocre at best. Pizza was good but if you mess up pizza then you're actually a bad cook. I would recommend the eggplant Parmesan but it's nothing to write home about.

I didn't walk out wowed, but I did walk out satisfied. This review starts off with a similar story to some of the others. I was in the West Village for dinner and wanted to go to Rosemary's, but the wait was far too long. Lo and behold, Gran Tattoria was directly across the street and I could see a handful of empty tables. We had the PIZZA GRANO, the SALMONE CON CROSTA DI MOSTARDA, and a risotto with salmon from the Chef's Specials. The pizza was great. Thin crust, crispy on the outside, but mushy and soft towards the middle. The mustard crusted salmon was solid. The salmon risotto, however, was dismal and tasted like oatmeal (a harsh review but true so avoid this one). The space itself is comfortable and the service was friendly and attentive. The moral of the story is this: Get to Rosemary's early.

A friend of mine knows the owner, Maurizio Crescenzo, and recommended this place for dinner. We were not able to make that work but did go for Sunday brunch. Luckily we were also able to meet Maurizio and his beautiful daughters. My husband had the Omelette del Boscaiolo and I had the Frittata Americana. As my husband said, "they have to put crack in their eggs." Both were divine. Perfectly cooked and came with a side of home fries (delicious and flavorful potatoes) and some arugula which paired perfectly. The trattoria is beautifully done, simple but elegant, and the staff was attentive and kind.

Look Bleecker/Carmine and your feuding pizza offerings (Bleecker St Pizza, Joe's, and John's) imma let you finish, but Grano Trattoria has the best pepperoni pizza of all time. OF ALL TIME!

I stumbled in on a Sunday evening. I yelped, saw the reviews were ok but looked at the menu. After looking it over, I was enticed by what I found on the menu. I had a happy hour glass of red wine, arugula and beet salad, and the special with a spicy lamb ragu. Delicious! Service is nice, ambiance quiet and chill, and the food is tasty and reasonably priced. Definitely worth looking at the menu. I'm sure you'll find something you'd like to try! And yes, homemade pasta :)

Grano's has become one of our go-to places in the West Village. The food is delicious and reasonably priced. The portions are just right. The staff is glad to see us and makes us feel truly welcome. I used to pine for dinner at the place on the opposite corner but now I just look over there and see the line of people trying to get in as I enjoy my delightful dinner and wine at Grano. The regular menu is full of great things and the specials are often spectacular. Everything I've eaten there has been top notch. Do yourself a favor and go. Make a res if you want to go on Friday/Saturday.

Very glad our hotel recommended this restaurant, and also very glad we insisted on sitting in the back, by the brick oven. We were treated to a show as the owner hand-flipped the pizzas, and it was much much quieter than the front of the restaurant. My wife had the Contadina salad, and I had the fennel and arugala. Nothing brilliant about either, but very tasty. The orata (a fish) was tiny, flat, a delicious. Black pasta with mussels and other seafood rivaled Beppo's - though they forgot the mussels! When I asked, though, they actually brought a huge side dish of mussels in wine sauce. I liked that it's still owned by the originals, and though the service was a bit slow/inconsistent (given that there were only four tables in the place - three people who'd arrived well after us were asked about drinks, then food, before we were), we'd gladly go back. Friendly, unpretentious - at a time when most of the restaurants surrounding seem to be trying to be as pretentious as possible - it was nice to have a friendly, quiet, very basic Italian meal. And, having had Buca de Beppo's black squid pasta just nights before, I will say this seemed every bit as good. For less than half the price!

Really delicious, reasonably priced and unpretentious Italian restaurant in the West Village. It was a Tuesday evening so there was luckily no wait. We came 10 minutes before happy hour ended and the waitress was kind enough to double up on the wines for us before it switched to full price. We shared the Insalata Grano, a nice and light salad of beets, fennel, shaved parmesan and lightly dressed arugula. We only ordered some pastas, but the secondis looked phenomenal albeit pretty pricey. I ordered the orrechiette with broccoli rabe and spicy sausage and it was really good, but I tried a bit of my friend's casarecci alla cacciatora with boar sausage and it was divine. Would definitely like to come back and try more of the menu!

I think the reviewers giving a low rating to Grano were at a different restaurant. I've been coming here many years, since it first opened...has to be close to 15 years... Never had a bad meal here, the wine is always excellent, and Maurizio whips up an awesome panna cotta. Pasta, meat, fish, risotto, wood fired pizza...all excellent. It's not your run-of-the-mill, heavy eggplant parm, baked ziti type of Italian. When I want to feel like I'm dining in Italy, I come here. Love the vibe and atmosphere... Dying to try his new endeavor, Taverna di Bacco, on Ludlow in the East Village. Mille Grazie, Maurizio & Francesco!

I was here the other night with friends... At one point in the conversation we started talking about the type of flour makes the best waffles. Another member of our party remarked that we must be having the most boring conversation in Manhattan on a Friday night... Then we looked around... I don't even think we were having the most boring conversation in the restaurant. I think that's a pretty good description of the restaurant and its clientele... boring. We got the Focaccia appetizer. It was delicious and got us excited for our meals. Its not often that an appetizer over shadows an entree. The pizza margarita was okay... I mean, it's still pizza, but Trader Joes frozen Margarita pizza is better. The rest of my dinner party said the food was fine... but mostly because the food was boring and inoffensive even though some of the descriptions might be misleading.

5+ stars for overwhelmingly great service. 4 stars for the food - good pasta, more affordable than some other more famous Italian restaurants (Del Posto, Alto), then again I liked the pasta at those other restaurants slightly better. On the service: I walk in on a Friday night at 8pm, and am immediately greeted by a very friendly server. No reservations, but he asked the manager, who was incredibly accommodating and told me that of course I could have a table! I sat near the bar and they were updating me on the table. The bartender walked out from behind the bar and asked me herself if I'd like a drink. When I decided later, the manager ordered it for me as we were just being sat. I left my sweater by the bar and the server who'd greeted me kindly brought it to my table. Our server was always there when we needed her - of course, this is a small cozy restaurant so it's hard to be lost amongst the crowd here. One great thing they did was when my friend and I couldn't decide between two entrees, she offered to give us a half serving of each on one plate. Perfect solution! I didn't even know restaurants did that! I felt like I was being warmly welcomed into a family. Everyone was just in such good spirits and so warm and friendly. Onto the food.. good, very good, but not the best. Probably one of the better values in the city for quality Italian food. Cocktail: Passione - excellent! Exactly what I needed: light, sweet, refreshing. The only thing was the blackberry vodka separated from the passion fruit juice so the bottom half was quite strong. Taglierini allo Zafferano con Gamberetti e peperoni rossi (Saffron noodles with rock shrimp & red bell pepper in a lite cream sauce) - I wish the saffron flavor was a little stronger. I've had saffron noodles in the past (at The Modern) and found it amazing, which is why this item caught my attention on the menu. However I could barely taste the saffron.. it was a good dish, not particularly special. Pasta a little hard for me (though my friend found it perfect. Just a difference in taste). Casarecci con salsiccia di Cinghiale & funghi (Casarecci pasta with wild boar sausage & mushrooms) - this was AMAZING. The flavor was great, and the sausage absolutely delicious - creamy, seasoned perfectly. And the pasta was very unique (I google imaged this type of pasta later and the way Grano makes it each piece is much larger and swirly-er.. if that's a word), each piece gives you a good amount of pasta and is filling in a good way. Once again, I wish the pasta was just the slightest bit softer - still, for this dish, the flavor was so great that I didn't mind at all. Sweet potato, Peas, Goat cheese - don't remember the full name of this item, and it's not on the menu online. The pasta was large round tubes. We almost thought we got the wrong item because we couldn't taste the sweet potato at all, but it turns out it's IN the pasta. A little disappointing.. I was looking forward to that. I am a big fan of goat cheese but found its flavor a little overwhelming in this dish. They should've countered it with something else - the peas work to an extent, but weren't quite enough. Linguine alle Vongole Veraci (Linguine with clams in a garlic olive oil & white wine sauce) - my friend got this and enjoyed it. I would go back again for the Casarecci and hopefully some other dishes that are as good as this one!

Delicious food and the prices are really reasonable. We ordered a thin crust pizza and a pasta dish and both were really good with very fresh ingredients. Unfortunately, the service really wasn't great. There weren't many people in the restaurant and we were left waiting for a long time. Probably won't be back.

I recently booked my friends Bachelorette Party at Grano. We were a group of 20 on Saturday night. From beginning to end they went out of their way to accomodate us. We did a pre fixe menu, with amazing family style appetizers and unlimited carafes of wine. Andrea was a pleasure to work with, responsive and helpful -- we emailed for a couple of weeks before the event. The night of the party there was SO much food, attentive staff and we just felt they were really happy to have us there. Our waiters and bus boys were great and the chef came out to introduce himself. Someone in our party had a gluten allergy and they brough out a salad and different dessert and the accomodations were just seamless and easy. They comped a couple of extra cocktails for us since they noticed not everyone in the group drank the pre fixe wine. Overall, just a ton of attention to detail and true hospitality- they even printed out individual menus with the brides name on it! Perfect night, great big group setting, delicious food (and wine!).

I wish it was a regular local Italian restaurant but it's way too overpriced for that. Take out spaghetti and meatballs was something like $20 and it was gross. That one overpriced order killed it for me and I've been there many times. Brick oven pizza looks good but it's just mediocre and way too expensive for what is just totally ordinary food.

The wait staff was amazing. They met us like we were family, but maintained a very professional air. Grano Trattoria was originally recommended to me by an Italian, living up to his strict standards, and I have found that you can not go wrong with any of the hand made pastas. The entrees take a bit of time to come out of the kitchen, so order some wine and enjoy the night. Good food is not to be rushed.

Decided to give Grano a try after the always-packed Rosemary's across the street had an hour wait. Was relatively empty when we came in but overall a nice atmosphere. All the food we had was quite good, and what I would classify as more of an "old school" Italian restaurant - 1) Mozzarella caprese - a staple item for me. Tomatoes on the small side, but tasty. Good homemade mozzarella and well-seasoned 2) Panzanella salad - really nice and fresh 3) I had the rigatino with bolognese. Pasta was perfectly al dente and nice and thick. Really good sauce with shredded (vs. ground) beef that was very tender. Healthy portion size 4) Black linguini with calamari and baby octopus - had the right amount of spiciness and again pasta was perfectly al dente. The roasted garlic they used in the sauce gave this a great flavor Would go again - pizzas on neighboring tables looked thin and crispy and veal parm looked worth trying

Grano Trattoria for sure makes a MEAN penne bolognese. The best I've ever had, the best I ever will have. So delicious, super fresh & doesn't leave me feeling gross & bloated after I've just licked the whole plate clean. Couldn't ask for anything better (I don't think anything better even exists!) The breads okay, definitely nothing special. The restaurant is nice & pretty versatile - Perfect for a date, casual birthday, anniversary, family gathering, or even just a dinner for you & your friend(s). The service is great, waiters are always friendly, helpful & nice. Not crowded, never loud & a nice, relaxing atmosphere. Definitely check out that penne bolognese, though - It's super bomb. Literally the only thing I ever order when I come to this restaurant, it's THAT good.

Just awful. The most flavor less pizza for two that costs $50. This place should just close down.

The wait at Rosemary's across the street was too long, so we wandered here to Grano. We're glad we did. Linguine with Clams were great. Pasta was fresh and cooked perfectly al dente. As a pasta-lover, this place hit the spot for sure. Friendly staff but when the place got crowded, they got a bit overloaded. Reasonably priced ($13-18) for well-executed pasta dishes.

So disappointing. I went to Grano after eating at their partner restaurant, Taverna di Bacco in the LES. I had high expectations after a good meal over there, but I was severely let down. We had: -mozzarella: really salty, took away from the flavor of the cheese itself -spagetti: bland, uninspiring. -gnocchi: overcooked, too chewy -pork cavatelli special: undercooked to the point that the diner got sick and everything else at the table was just generally uninspiring. add to that the fact that we weren't offered fresh pepper or parmesan cheese with our pastas and I was wholly unimpressed. try their sister restaurant, or if you want to stay in the neighborhood, check out Corsino. you can probably make better pasta at home than what you'll find at Grano.

One of the best dinner service experiences we had during our week in Manhattan. Wife and I and my cousins all liked our food and drinks. Good choices for meat eaters and veggies. A bit on the pricy side though. At first it was very hot in there and we thought it was the nearby pizza oven blasting us, then the manager came over and asked if we wanted him to turn down the ceiling heater blowing on us. Yes please. Then it was comfortable. Our Italian server was top notch and attentive to our table of 6 even though she had a bunch of other parties to take care of too.

A wonderful lucky find. This is a cute date or catch-up-with-friends sort of dinner place that has lots of charm. The food is here also very good and at extremely reasonable prices which, for the West Village, is a true rarity. The Orichiette all Barese in particular is out of this world and is a must-try.

My friend and I discovered Grano Trattoria in late 2010 and took to this restaurant immediately. Although not regulars, we had gone enough times to enjoy it and return again. We dined here last night after a long lapse. New to us was the fact that another Italian restaurant called Rosemary recently opened diagonally from Grano Trattoria. I observed that it had been packed inside and read that it can be difficult to walk in and get a table at times. But back to Grano. When my friend and I first started going, there was a manager--Francesco--- who was very pleasant and made us and all patrons feel like we were part of their family. He was part of the reason why we would dine there occasionally as we liked that home-y feel to it. We were disappointed to learn that Francesco is rarely at the restaurant these days and embarking on other projects. I have always been fond of their good, solid and authentic food (although some of their dishes can be a bit borderline salty) and this is what we ordered: Appetizer: Artichoke with pesto and parmesan cheese--this was very tasty and delicious. The artichoke was matchstick thin and most likely fried Baked Eggplant--my friend ordered it and although she enjoyed it, she stated that she had better elsewhere Main: Whole wheat pasta with wild mushrooms--I ordered this and really liked it. It could have used some more mushrooms and might have been a bit oily but still very good Pasta with vongole---my friend ordered this and really liked it. In fact, I tasted a vongole and it packed a flavorful punch--garlicky enough and sweet We ordered wine with our meal which was good and I also tried a Prosecco with mint and lime juice which was refreshing (almost like a mojito)--I'm sure there was the added ingredient of sugar or simple syrup because it was sweet. We ended our meal and shared a creme brulee which was topped with a few strawberries and very delicious. Verdict on dinner---their food is quite delicious but the portions are unacceptably small. My friend and I really enjoyed our pasta but it was a tease eating something good for just a few bites with such small portion sizes. I can understand applying this mentality to meat or fish but pasta is a cheap staple. By the way, our waiter and the staff were helpful and friendly which is always appreciated. Grano does have a cute atmosphere, is quiet and amenable to having a conversation. Another thing worth mentioning is that they have a brick oven in the back of the restaurant and although I have never tried their pizza, it looked quite good. Since their portion size is very small, I'm giving this restaurant 3.5 stars (it would have been 4, because their food is quite good).

I don't want to even write this review because I don't want the secret of Grano to get out! While tiny, this is my go-to Italian restaurant, with super authentic and a-may-zing food. The portions are huge, the prices are insanely affordable and the staffers are so nice and accommodating. The eggplant parmesan appetizer is out-of-this-world good (and is a huge portion size, plenty for sharing), the wild boar sausage pasta is mind-blowing goodness, and the tiramisu is the best I have ever had.

the salads and other appetizers were great - price of wine for value excellent - however can not get forget how the special of veggie lasagna was so bad words can barely express ... just terrible/ the other pastas were fine but had minimal sauce of any appreciable amount ... so dissappointed

We've been to Grano Trattoria 2 times, but despite nice people and pretty good food, I don't think we'll go back because the prices just don't meet expectation. This go around the mains were VERY overpriced. We ordered two fish dishes (branzino special and the orata off the menu) and both came out with a tiny fillet and few slices of potato and were priced close to $30. We're used to paying this for a fish dish, but unless at a fine dining where you're paying for a really exquisite dish, you should get more than 3 bites out of the meal! My Orata was good (not great) but I would not order it again. Thank God I had ordered the prosciutto and melon as a first course and my husband the Grano Salad (both very good) because we would have left hungry otherwise (and I'm not a big eater). Our first time there we also had ordered our 2 year old a small dish of penne and red sauce which was not on the menu but the waitress set out to accommodate her which was nice. She enjoyed but that was not enough, so we ordered another, not realizing each were priced at $9 for a tiny half pasta which was not even enough to satisfy a toddler! The pricing also made no since the full pasta w/tomato and basil was $11. In the end we paid $18 for a toddler's penne! A bit much. Like I said, it's a cute place, nice people, but the prices can't carry the food (minus maybe the apps), so unfortunately we won't go back.

Grano was once a neighborhood favorite. Dined last night and talk about slippage. Service was less than prompt and efficient. My pasta plate, a regular order, needed some flavor (yes, it was that blah) so I asked for a shot of parmesan cheese. I could not believe the answer: we are out of parmesan cheese. Yes, an Italian restaurant, with Citarella across the street. No parmesan. I can see the "For Rent" sign now. Good bye, Grano.

I've got say that I cannot believe the positive reviews I have read after dining at Grano. I'm not sure where to begin. I should have known when we walked in for brunch and nearly all of the tables were empty. Well, we started by ordering a litre of the sangria. I've had good sangria, great sangria and sangria that is just okay. This was horrible. It was simply red wine with some fruit sitting in it. It was not chilled. Nothing else added. Just warm red wine with fruit. From there, things got worse. Despite there only being 2 other groups in the entire place, it took over 50 minutes for our food to come out. Oh, and did I mention that we ordered eggs which takes 10 minutes to prepare? The food came out and it was not too appetizing to say the least. Halfway through our meal, the group next to us sent back their salmon entree telling the server that it "did not taste right." Our meal was on par with that. 1 server in the whole restaurant. One of those places that looks okay from the outside, but once you get in, it makes you wonder who the hell is working the kitchen. It was a really really unpleasant experience. Bad food, bad drinks, slow service, slow wait time for food. The whole thing was a mess. STAY AWAY!

Wandered in after being snooted for the umpteenth time at Babbo. It's a friendly, well done Italian restaurant that has moved into the "friendly, affordable and delicious" void left by the closing of Osso Buco on University Place. In a big city, where most restaurants let you know that one customer more or less doesn't mean anything to their business, Grano stands out. They have a wide variety of properly done fresh pastas and a range of preparations, both traditional and creative. The portions are ample but not excessive and the wine list is full of good $30-$50 options. I didn't explore beyond appetizers and pasta but there are meat and seafood options as well. Friendly and competent service, well priced and well done. I can easily see this place becoming my go-to Italian in the Village.

Handmade pasta, great service, cozy and clean venue. What more can you ask for? Oh yeah, the crunchy bread sticks. For appetizer I had the seared scallops with arugula, mandarins, & grated cheese..it was great. For my entree, I had the Linguine al Nero di Seppie allo Scoglio which is Black linguine with calamari, baby octopus & spicy tomato sauce~ I wouldn't say its spicy but this dish definitely hit the spot. Can't wait to go back and try another pasta dish!

You know those charming little restaurants in the village that you always walk past and see people enjoying a nice meal - and you think "I really should try this place." That's Grano. The bonus for me is that I asked if they had anything gluten free on the menu - and the owner/host said his wife is gluten free and they have gf pasta. We went there for dinner and had a very nice experience. Lots of charm to the entire experience.

A place wins stars in my book if they never let your water glass go empty. Refilled every time it was anywhere near halfway filled, with ICE water. I mean come on, that is just so key. We had the kindest waitress - she was so accommodating in letting me know they could alter a dish so it was cheeseless and yet still delicious. I had spinach gnocchi with asparagus and tomatoes in a white wine sauce. Yummy and large dish that ended up coming home with me and was eaten the next day for lunch. Unfortunately found out after our meal that it had a B rating - that just skeeves me.

I gave Grano Trattoria a try after being told that there was a 2+ hour wait at Rosemary across the street. Things went downhill after walking in the door. -The tap water tasted like plastic (when asking for new water we got plenty of attitude). -The bread tasted like cardboard. -The server was extremely unhelpful with helping us decide on dishes (he knew nothing about the menu). -The server neglected to tell us that there was beef in the vegetable lentil soup and that a chicken salad really means cesar salad. -The portions were small. -We had 3 different pastas-- all of them tasting rather boring and uninteresting. Definitely won't be back here again. The West Village has plenty of delicious Italian restaurants and Grano Trattoria is definitely not one of them.

Great value for homemade pastas and well-executed, traditional dishes. Extensive menu and daily specials. Brick oven pizzas. Affordable list of Italian wines. Service is average. I recommend the casarecci pasta with wild boar sausage and mushrooms: unique and delicious.

My friend found this place for our NYE festivities and made reservations. They accommodated about 20 of us. A major plus was that there was no prix fixe requirement. $95 for four courses, or you could order a la carte (and in some cases it was cheaper to order the four courses a la carte than the prix fixe. Ha!). It took them a little while to seat us and forever to take our orders. On top of that, flagging down our waiter to order alcohol was also difficult, so there was plenty of time for twindling thumbs. Luckily, I was in great company. On to the food. 1) I don't understand the purpose of taking orders in they don't know how to serve in order. It was frustrating because our food took a while, we were starving, and we were still eating during the countdown. Someone was missing their salad and the waiter did get him one in a jiffy. We did end up with extra pasta dishes, which was nice. 2) Portion sizes were also not typical Italian restaurant sized. Maybe this was a New Year's thing. 3) Prices on the NYE menu were about 2x of the normal entree prices, but the dishes had higher end ingredients, e.g. a pasta dish normally comes with calamari came with lobster instead and/or black truffle. 4) I liked the polenta crusted scallops and the braised veal/ricotta ravioli. The homemade red fettucine (beet coloring) with porcini mushroom sauce was drowning in cream. I really wouldn't have eaten it if I wasn't so hungry and it really hit later (combined with the cheap champagne). The chicken involtino stuffed with spinach and fontina cheese was overcooked. They were nice enough to give us that bottle of cheap champagne as well as NYE party favors. Their regular menu looks much more appetizing and at wallet friendly prices. But, based on my red fettucine experience, I'm not in rush to visit again - there are plenty of great Italian joints in the city.

I was here last year & thinking maybe its time to re-vist? I Liked this place when I first walked in. It is a cute place, the food has potential to be good but A LOT of it was way under seasoned. All of our salads, pastas, and mains (lamb shank) was under seasoned :(( The food menu does have a nice flow & so does the wine.

We had a terrific meal here in October. The house white wine was dry, delicious and generously served. My husband had a special - pork belly with polenta, I had butternut squash ravioli. The bread was great. The best part of the meal was the dessert - chocolate polenta with vanilla sauce. Flavor and texture so wonderful.

Tried this place on a whim. Considering the price and the lack of pretension, this place is pretty good. The beet salad appetizer with carmelized onion, was tasty and refreshing. The octopus pasta was decent and a fairly good value. The only criticism being that the dish could have used a little kick. My review would have resulted in one extra star(yay i'm a fan), if it had been located closer to where I live, but considering this restaurant required travelling to, I'm not sure it would be high on my list to go back to, but then again, if I was passing by, I might be tempted to stop in. This is a good place for neighborhood people looking for decent inexpensive fare without going through the effort of dressing up or making reservations.

This is one of our favorite places in the city. We started coming here because of a recomendation from an italian friend who is very fussy about homemade pasta. My husband and I went (whose grandmother is from Italy and I held my breath) and he loved it. They have a guy come in at 6:30 am and make the pasta daily. You can taste the difference. The salads are great, the Pappardelle with Duck Ragu is outrageous and I fight with my husband over that or the Cavatelli pasta and broccoli rabe as being the best pasta in the place. This is not a fancy auper high end place- in fact, its low key and you feel like part of the family. Two brothers run it, and once they get to know you they greet you with hugs and kisses. Wine is good, food is great and its a staple for consistent delicious menu items.

My wife & I both had an upset stomach after eating the "finger-rolled pasta with spicy sausage". Seems like I'm the first reviewer to feel sick after eating here, so perhaps it was a one-off. But that aside, the sausage was exceptionally fatty and the pasta too dense to be enjoyable. Otherwise, it seemed like a nice enough place with friendly service and clean decor.

Awesome food. Quiet and pleasant atmosphere. I recommend the carpaccio and the lamb shank, but my wife likes the gnocchi. I tried the brick oven pizza, too, and it was amazing. Oh, and they have some great wines, too.

I had eaten here before with my son and his friend and it was pretty good. I had lamb rib-chops and they were yummy. I stopped in today and had pizza...not impressed. I ordered the Grano pizza, with buffalo mozzarella and arugula. The arugula was really limp (it had been topped on fresh like they do in Rome) and the pizza was very bland. I only eat pizza a few times a year so I am pretty particular...but I was disappointed. The most flavorful item today was the dollop of olive oil and garlic infused ricotta that came with the bread basket. I actually found the service to be lovely...both times

I don't know what is going on with this place. They must have changed owners. I went for Sunday brunch with friends and sat down to dirty glasses on the table. I ordered the pancakes with blueberries. My friend ordered the potato pancake. When they arrived, they looked like the same thing. The food was not good. I've never tasted sausage that tasted so bad. One Sunday I came by here, and the health dept had shut them down. Will not be going back....

Mmmm fresh homemade pasta... Grano is situated on a busy corner in Greenwich Village -- great for people watching as you drink your wine or one of their tasty cocktails. I went here with some co-workers and was able to try lots from the menu. Here are my favorites: Polipetti alla Diavola (baby octopus with spicy tomato sauce appitizer - great flavor combinations), Casarecci con salsiccia di Cinghiale & funghi (Casarecci pasta with wild boar sausage & mushrooms -- awesome flavor, even great the 2nd day for leftovers!), and Fettuccine Integrali del Boscaiolo (whole wheat fettuccine with wild mushrooms & truffle oil - nice and light). You cannot go wrong with any of the food choices here. Also, the owner and staff are very helpful and friendly! I cant wait to go back for more!

We held our wedding reception here on August 27, 2011... It was fantastic! Maurizio and staff could not have been more wonderful hosts... With their wood burning oven Grano Trattoria still produces one of the best pizzas in the West Village. With all the recent hype in the West Village about Napoli pizza, it is refreshing to know that Grano is still there producing consistently good pizza.

Grano Trattoria is extraordinary by not doing anything out of the ordinary. The food is prepared so all the flavors work in concert to be like that song you can't get out of your head-and don't want to. Personable service and a warm but not dark decor make for a restaurant that you make plans to become a regular of.

Was here recently for a baby shower... For such a large party, Grano Trattoria definitely kept the food coming... Pizza, mussels, an antipasti plate with octopus and salad, papardelle... YUM! Large portions and from looking at the menu outside, decently priced. The only thing I'd have to say was that the dessert was a miss... Panna cotta, yes... Creme Brulee (at an Italian place) - no... It tasted like an egg custard. Would be back again if in the neighboorhood... (or if looking to throw a party) P.S. It seems that Kiefer Sutherland lives around the corner, because we saw him run in and out of the dry cleaner right next door in nothing but a sweater on a freeeeezing day.

OK place. We only ordered pasta and it was good. The decor is a little bit demode and I have to admit I hate white blinds at the window....It looks cheap and old. Crowd was mixed with couple, families and few dates. In conclusion, a nice place to eat but do not expect fireworks ;-)

We had peaked in at lunch time on a previous trip and liked the vibe. We tried it for dinner tonight, and we loved everything about it. "Buona Sera" as you enter, a cozy dining room with a table by the window providing an excellent view of Greenwich Street to and fro, a lovely Italian waiter who encouraged my husband's Italian and made spot on recommendations for wine and dessert and approved the wild boar sausage pasta over another my husband was considering. it is a classic Tuscan pasta, not often on menus here and he thought it was the best he has had. My lamb shank was the best I have had. The artichoke appetizer was addictive.

  • Sarah B.

This review is only about the pasta - I've never tried anything else, because I've never wanted to. It is homemade, fresh and delicious. The boar sausage casarecci lives up to the hype, the gnocchi is gorgonzala-walnutty perfection, and the speck in the sweet potato-goat cheese pasta is decadently salty. My friends and I have been going here for over a year, and never a misstep. We always get pasta, and we always love it. We also love the cozy candlelit atmosphere, the friendly service, the jovial owner who loves to sing Happy Birthday if the occasion calls for it, and especially the chocolate polenta. Nom nom nom.

Great location, but food left a lot to be desired. With so many great Italian options in NYC, this one is easily forgotten. The pasta seemed homemade and fresh, but the sauces and ingredients were just flavorful.

Always unimpressed by Grano. The food is OK, the service is OK, and the atmosphere is OK. There's really nothing special about this place. The prices are certainly high for the quality of food you receive. There's plenty of better places to go to in the West Village.

  • Lizzie W.

Cozy definitely comes to mind but the food was only "ok". Mine was pretty good but it's hard to mess up pasta with meat sauce (I know, I can be boring)...my date had steak and it was overcooked (actually, really really overcooked)...the appetizer was decent but not what we had expected. Apparently it's somewhat popular b/c there was definitely a wait but I'm not sure if everyone was first timers, like we were... Overall, I would say skip it.

The food is great! Sure, the wine list is a little so-so, but the grub's solid, and if you're nice they give you free biscotti for desert. The prices are solid as well; around 14.00 for a nice big plate o' pasta. I dine alone now and then and they've even got a nice big bar where singles can mosey up to and eat. I hate eating by myself at a table; it's depressing. A bar is perfect; you talk to the bartender, peruse a magazine. and it seems a whole lot better. I've had great dinners here as a couple and I like it so much I even wander down to eat by myself (of course I do live about 400 feet away, so that factors into the decision making process).

We were walking around the West Village during the day and most restaurants were pretty packed. This place looked about half full so we went in and got seated promptly. Big mistake, next time I'll go to a restaurant that has a lot of people since that's an indication it's good. It was Saturday, they had a brunch menu. I ordered the pepperoni pizza. Not crispy at all, but I don't mind that. It was soggy and undercooked. My wife ordered steak and eggs. The steak wasn't flavored, so she asked for some tabasco sauce and A-1 sauce. "Sorry, we don't have those sauces." Ok, so what kind of sauce do you have? "We don't have any sauces. What sauce would you like, I'll go make it for you." Ok, A1 sauce please. Seriously, just go across the street to the convenience store and pick it up. There's no one in the restaurant anyway, we're not going to miss you for the whole 5 minutes. So the waiter comes back and then says "sorry, we don't have the ingredients to make the sauce." Ok, am I on some TV show? Where are the hidden cameras? I'll give credit where credit is due. They did have ketchup, salt and pepper. Service was good, but this restaurant seems to be lacking in some ingredients. They should rename this place Guano.

I would give this place zero stars if I could.. but I guess Yelp is forcing me to be gracious. Despite this little one-star ruse to hide my otherwise wholly bitchy review, here's the truth [if you can handle it]! The ambience is cute, dimly lit and attempting to transform the apparent lack of space into "cozy." In other words, it was just like any other generic, candle-sparse, wish-it-was-cozy restaurant in [insert ANY indistinguishable, generic neighborhood]. Fast forward to the food, the one aspect of any eatery that can totally turn my frown upside down: It was f*ck at first bite. While that may turn some of you on, mine was a much less pleasurable experience. Twas more like, "Fuck. I only paid $9.50, and this pizza is giant, but I just spent $9.50 to taste the 2nd most depressing pizza of my life." If i knew how to properly express the sound that Scooby Doo makes when confused, the one that's kinda like "arrrhoof??", I would do it right now. A non-traditional Margherite [all hope is lost at this point], undercooked and chewy, with run-of-the-mill sauce. Why aren't you out of business yet? I hate you.

  • Michael R.

I came with a native Napolese, so maybe I was treated to a little better experience. Of course spending several hundred $$$ always helps.... I found the carpaccio quite good and had no problem with the baby octopus. My tagliatelle was not bland; not the finest ragu I have eaten though. The salmon with ginger turnip puree turned out fine. Hopefully they will iron out some wrinkles, since they seem to be trying to improve on things. The owner was out front, asking for feedback, so I would urge diners to respond to that request before trashing the place. (I actually never order pizza at such places, so no report there.)

  • Rebecca H.

This little Italian place looks cozy and charming, but everything is mediocre here. The service was nothing to write home about, the food was disappointing. I had tagliatelle with a lamb ragu and well, it was bland. There was something cheesy about the place too but I cannot put my finger on it... I will think more on that and get back to you. But, I won't come back here; there are so many wonderful Italian restaurants in this neighborhood!

This place was amazing. So cozy and the owners are on site and involved. Although we had a reservation we waited about 20 mins which was pleasantly spent chatting with an owner who promptly gave us glasses of champagne once he found out we were celebrating our anniversary. Our food was exceptional! The only sauce I've had that reminded me of my sicilian grandmothers sauce. The articoke app and the sausage app were to die for! Every bite was hot like food should be eaten! The price was very very reasonable!! The service was amazing!! Triple thumbs up !!!!

Sunday evening we came in a group of five ppl. The dinning room is well decorated, feels like a classy country club. Noise level was acceptable, meaning you can chat at ease without to scream to be heard. I had Pizza Quattro Stagioni and it was quite good. They also have a wide range of wine selection. My friends had pasta and think its good but a bit too pricey. We had Pannacotta for dessert and it is very good. I enjoyed this place for its jolly atmosphere, quality food, and friendly staffs.

I have always hesitated to walk into Grano with my kids at is seems so elegant (which it is). I did not think it would be good for a 3 year old but my kids were hungry and I was in the neighborhood. Wow, it was amazing. Not only was the food great but they made sure my kids were happy. The owner even took my son over to the fire station next door to meet the firemen so we could have a few minutes of quiet! The food was great but the service, genuine italian friendliness, made the whole evening.

Overpriced, slightly oversalted pasta. While the meal I could handle, I'm still a bit upset at ordering a single cup of coffee and being charged $3.50. The cup itself was very tiny (maybe 5 oz.), and it certainly wasn't freshly brewed. As a coffee lover, I am offended.

Been a regular here for years. The owners are the most amazing people ever and the hand-made pasta is some of the best in the city. But so reasonably priced. Feels so comforting.

I agree that the ambiance is very cozy, but, all high expectations were quickly dashed after we tasted the food. Try to imagine what Italian food might taste like at an Italian retirement home and you'll have the flavor pegged. The flavor and quality of the food was so poor, that I have to questions what any of the other reviewer's were thinking. Either they must know the chef and was served a special dish made just for their friends or they are members of the defenders of mediocrity club.

i really enjoyed my meal here, and i'm not necessarily easy to impress, so i was a little surprised by the low rating that this place got. i had a delicious meal of linguine with clams and a little chianti classico ( you really can't go wrong with nice glass of chianti) i was overwhelmed by the number of clams that i found, and the pasta was pretty decent. i really enjoyed the atmosphere, most especially the big friendly italian man greeting me (in italian) at the door.(i studied in florence, i'm a sucker for italian anything.) moderately priced, good service, etc. a nice date place i'd say. trust me on this, your lady/man friend will thank you!

We were looking to go to the Garage for the night but were craving some Italian dinner. We stopped into Grano and it was jam packed. Since we didn't have reservations and there was a wedding rehearsal dinner going on we weren't hopeful about getting a seat. Just as we were about to leave, the owner of the restaurant was kind enough to set up place mats and seat us at the bar. I ordered a glass of wine and the Garganelli con Piselli, Speck e Caprino. Before our dinner arrived the owner sent us a complementary basket of pizza fritta which tasted like it had lemon and anchovy on top. It was ridiculously good. The pasta had a wonderful sauce with green peas and goat cheese. It was really rich and satisfying. My sister ordered the Maccheroni con Polpettine di Carne e Melanzane. The meatballs were to die for. We had a great experience here. I felt bad that we had to impose on the bartender since she really had her hands full with the private party. Even though the ambiance of eating at the bar was not as good as sitting at a table, it was worth it solely for the food. To think we almost left!

I found this place when I was visiting NYC from Boston by doing research on fresh pasta in NYC. The pasta here is homemade and great! You can order the pasta dishes in half portions too!! My favorite ones are the spinach gnocchi, sweet potatoe mini rigatoni and bolognese. I've only had pasta here, but someone next to me ordered pizza and it looked really good! The staff here are so nice and recognize you when you return and make you feel at home. When your in NYC, living here or visiting, I highly recommend this place.

I really miss living around the corner form this place. I ate here A LOT and never had a bad meal--I wouldn't mind if the portions were a bit larger though. Staffed by some of the most genuinely friendly folks I've ever encountered serving some very good, very authentic Italian fare. A great place to eat alone at the bar as well as a nice little date spot.

By far the most consistently good and reasonably priced Italian retaurants in the city. We go regularly and the brothers who run the place remember the customers and call my wife "Bella" so she loves going for that alone. Nice wine selection, again at prices you can swallow while you enjoy all homemade fresh pasta. The tomato sauce with little meatballs is a definite go to dish and I love the linguini with clams (on par with my grandmothers, but you never heard that from me).

Food average. Very rich tasting. Wine excellent. Ambiance excellent. Service mediocre. Bread terrible. Sang Happy Birthday! Charged for my bday dessert. Cappucinno excellent. I'm not sure where the 5 star reviews were coming from. I would not return $$$! Very average.

Decided to eat here yesterday with my family. The pasta was homemade and amazing, the pizza was perfect, and the dessert blew me away. I can't wait to go back. We brought our two year old son on a Sunday night at 5PM and they did not mind.

A nice, solid Italian dinner. I am currently staying in Greenwich Village for work and had a hankering for Italian food tonight. I stumbled across Grano Trattoria and it fulfilled my desire for Italian food. I had ravioli from the "special items of the day" menu and they were delicious! They were stuffed with beef, mushrooms and had a nice hint of sage. It was a well put together dish but nothing immediately jumped out at me. It held its own as a nice mix of ingredients and tastes. The ambiance was good and it is a nice, quite restaurant I would take a date to. Would I go back, definitely, but I don't think I would make my way across town. If I was in the area and wanted Italian food, Grano Trattoria would be in my bag of tricks since I know it would be a solid, hearty meal.

went here for a friend's birthday and the staff could not have been friendlier or nicer. the bartender made mr fishy a giant martini which had me in a good mood the whole night. wish i could say the food was any good, but it's not. mrs fishy's vegetable pasta was light on the vegetables and mr fishy's lamb shank was large in size but ordinary in taste. 4 stars for the service and setting, but just 2 stars for the food.

Should I still be hungry after eating an Italian meal? Maybe Italian food in the W. Village doesn't make you loosen your belt. The restaurant has very nice ambiance and will definitely score u brownie points with the date. The food is average and the portions are small. They have a real wood burning oven in the back so if you're in the mood for pizza I would definitely order one. I ordered the Pizza Margherita which might be large enough for two people if you are skinny like me. The wait staff was very attentive and my water glass was constantly filled.

We eat here sometimes as much as once a week. A wonderful place to take children, the owner has kids himself. The cavatappi with sausage and broccoli raab is delicious. The fried artichoke salad is a must for a starter. I love the vibe in there - so cozy and friendly and a true-family-owned restaurant.

This place had good cocktails, delicious food, and prompt, friendly service. We went at 8:30pm on a Saturday night. Even though it was packed, we were seated quickly and kindly. All three of us had pasta dishes and all enjoyed them. I'll definitely be back.

Although this place has a really nice atmosphere, the food was just OK for the price. It's not extremely expensive but there are similar restaurants very nearby that are cheaper and have much better food.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
