The only thing I have tried is the Cappuccino. Definitely tastes good and wakes me up. Desserts look gd and maybe I will give it a try next time.

Great coffee! Whether your taking it to go or to stay definitely give their pastries a or gelato a try. They know what they're doing here. They even take cards now! If you decide to stay in It can be a bit confusing since they do table service and you may not know the name of any given pastry you want. But don't let that worry you, everyone is super helpful, and their table service is super speedy and worth it. They really care about presentation here so its lovely to stay in and sip a cup of coffee. Just have a few singles to leave on the table for the server.

Great Italian coffees/deserts/ice creams. Staff was nice. Place was clean. LOTS of dessert options!

A great classic Italian run joint. Super friendly and helpful staff who, like any good Italian mother, will always ask "anything else?". Can't go wrong with the desert options here - the canolis and pine nut cookies are my fav. Just shy away from the coffee... it's instant :( . That said, if you need your caffeine fix they do have an espresso machine.

I came here after a drink with a date, and it was really a nice way to end the evening. I grew up going to get amazing Italian pastries, and it is nice to have something like this in the neighborhood. The selection is outstanding; however, some of our choices were stale and inedible. I hope the staff realize that having that much selection can be a little bad sometimes when the pastries get stale. I enjoyed most of my selections though. It has a nice following of bitty old Italian locals, which is nice, but I feel a little unwelcome by the regulars. Oh well, that's NY.

I wanted to like this place. I really did. Based on the other Yelp reviews I had pretty high hopes that were crushed as soon as I took a bite of the very dry and tasteless pistachio biscotti. The cannolis were gross; zero flavor and the shell was a little soggy. The pignolis were decent but nothing compared to the pignolis I've had from Veniero's. There is a minimum $10 order if paying with a credit card so I ended up getting a variety of things but sadly ended up throwing away half the bag. Just wasn't worth it. The service wasn't great - it wasn't bad either. The gal who helped me behind the counter seemed like she was having a bad day. She wasn't rude but she didn't go out of her way to be helpful. Just sort of "meh". Overall - not impressed. Maybe I just experienced a weird Monday night but it doesn't matter - I won't be going back.

Fortunato's Pastries have been a staple in my diet since I was a little girl. I actually took out working papers at 15 to work there...of course, sampling my way through their menu in the interim (a fantastic perk of the job) LOL. There isnt anything there that I dont like...and my birthday is not complete unless I get a Thousand Leaves birthday cake...with chocolate and canoli cream filling mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. You can find me in there on holidays and at least twice per year on any ordinary day just for a sweet treat! There is NO OTHER ITALIAN PASTRY SHOP THAT COMPARES. I will drive from wherever I'm living to get some Fortunato's!

Are there better bakeries out there? Probably, but this place is still pretty good. A couple friends and I came here for dessert after dinner. Service was friendly and there was plenty of seating. We ordered a bunch of things to share so I had a little bit of everything! I wasn't really a fan of their gelato as it was kinda melty, even when we ordered it. Everything else was good though, sweetness and fluffiness of cake, flakiness of pastries, and smoothness of custard. I will definitely stop in to pick up some baked goods the next time I'm in the area.

I never got a chance to actually try their food. I came in and after waiting for 15 min picked a few pastries and a tea. The girl at the counter sounded arrogant if not plain rude. The registry said "we kidly accept visa". I gave her my debit card. She took it and then said "it's $10 minimum". My bill was $8.50. I said I really dont want to buy any more pastries (I got 3). She answered rudly "I dont make up the rules" and handed me my card. I left. P.s. I'm 8 months pregnant and I really wanted that tea. It's 2015 and you would expect a more professional and corteous business especially in New York city.

Never visited this bakery but our workplace has been fortunate enough to receive numerous deliverers. By far the best Italian Pastries I've ever experienced. Beats "Little Italy" and "Arthur Avenue" hands down. The cannoli cream here is unsurpassed. The Sfogliatelle and Cream Puffs - outstanding. Worth the calories and the heart failure...

Went for the first time today. Was greeted by a friendly girl behind the counter. They have 2 sizes of cannoli, small and large. I was too hot to eat like a pig, so I just got a small. I should have gotten a large though:) They are perfect, and I can't stop thinking about them. The cappucino had a nice flavor, and if I lived closer, I'd go here every morning for my cup! The place is big, and you can bring a group here easy or its quiet enough for a date spot. There's Italian guys in the back, which makes you feel like you're in Italy;) These are some of the last real Italians in NYC. And pretty cool because Williamsburg isn't the old NYC anymore.

  • Tim R.

Great selection of Italian pastries and baked goods. We have picked up an assortment of pastries and baked goods here several times and they are all always delicious. From the Cannolis, to the Eclairs, to the Napoleon, all money. They also have full size cakes, like 25 gelatos and coffee.

This place makes me miss so many things at once. Living in Brooklyn for one, Italy secondly and the list really can go on and on. But you're here for one thing and one thing only right, how the heck were the pastries? They were friccin' amazing and I loved every moment of this space. Only in Brooklyn can you walk in a half hour before closing time and nobody flinches as you scoot toward a table after ordering everything in their window. My friends and I started off slow, first it was the red velvet, and then we thought what about some cannoli, this then became a full table of cookies, sweets, and coffee galore with four shameless people just soaking it all up. Every bite of every pastry, every cookie, every cake slice was perfect. Our servers were adorable and quick to suggest other treats as we happily ordered everything like we had only just been introduced to sugar. All in all a lovely way to end a night after a yum Thai dinner not too far away. It was good to be back home.

Fortunato Brothers is an order at the counter, sit down, and enjoy kind of dessert shop. They had an entire store length showcase of pastries and gelatos. They all looked good, but me and my friend decided to opt for the gelato since we weren't that hungry. For her, she got the red velvet gelato. For myself, I got a scoop of tiramisu and a scoop of pistachio gelato. Both flavors were really creamy, smooth, and just melted in your mouth. The pistachio flavor was more subtle. You could only taste a slight nuttiness after you've had a big spoonful. As for the tiramisu, you could definitely taste the alcohol. (But you won't get drunk off of it, don't worry). My friend loved her gelato too. She wants to go back for more already! It's a pretty chill shop. And the servers greeted us warmly when we were looking at what they had to offer. They then brought our items to our table, and there's no sense of rushing us to leave or pay up.

Its very sad that racism is still a part of this society. I visited this bakery today, & there was 3 female workers behind the counter. At no point did anyone of the workers ask me, If I needed any assistance. They never acknowledge me even in the bakery. Of course I'm the only black person in the shop. So I kindly helped myself to the exit. ( Undercover Boss plz help ) They need a serious change in attitude.

Love their expresso coffee and cappuccinos! Wish they were closer to me. Their desserts are great. I usually stop by if I'm in the area and order their cannoli to go to take to my parents . They love them. Their Gelato is delicious as well.

    (5)
  • Kristofor N.

I want to order one of each please. My favorite is the cannoli. The cannoli cream is so good. They coat it with white powder sugar which gets messy but it's worth the uniform change. Haha last time I went there I was working and my partner and I ate like we were going to the chair. Everything is so good and it's a real Italian place to go and have your coffee and pastry. Big windows allow you to look out. The staff is awesome and the price is reasonable.

I've been coming here since I was a child, and I love this place. I was finally in the area, and decided to stop by. I was reading the reviews prior to coming, and I must say, they have a lot of bad reviews for customer service. I personally wanted to test this out for myself. I normally just pick up birthday cakes and I'm in and out, so I never really experienced their service in full effect. Today I wanted pastries, so I asked serval questions; To my surprise, the girl kept her cool, and was patient. I purchased, an individual marble Cheese cake, granola cookie, chocolate chip cookies, tiramisu, cake pop and an eclair. I specifically asked for an éclair that isn't soggy, so I'm hoping it won't be. Everything else tasted great, and was packaged Nicely in a box. My friend on the other hand, didn't like how her items were thrown in a bag, her cannoli cream went on the bag, and her donut upside down. We had the same girl, but different experiences. I'm glad I received good service.

Solid cannoli, pignoli, and rainbow cookies from a shop that hopefully lasts.

  • Gordon H.

Come on man...we get it, you are an establishment servings sweets. So does that mean you don't have to be "sweet"? The service was the total opposite. Took a good 5-10mins for someone to help us, then she seemed like she didn't want to be bothered as well. The pastries weren't ANYTHING TO RAVE ABOUT. Trust! But listen to this...while we were sitting, one of the cashier/server young women came over and asked if we needed change. So we are like "huh?". She, then, says it again..."do you need any change? Like to break money or something?" And I am truly lost, but reply "No..." This is weird. Then she says "ok" and leaves. I took it as race-based. So I took the check to pay, and the girl randomly adds an item that I already ordered again saying that she didn't add it before -- "wwhhhaattttt?" I asked her "why did you do that?" And she says "I didn't tell her before!" With an attitude. Spend your money elsewhere man. They are clowns. Trust.

Top notch bakery with a classic BKLYN feel!! The desserts and coffee were excellent and the staff was extremely courteous and professional definitely a nice after dinner for coffee and dessert.

I love cannolis and this Brooklyn bakery really does have the best ones I've ever tried. I got both the African and authentic Italian version and both were heavenly. Love this spot.

The staff here is insanely rude and the policies are even crazier. I went with my mother and niece who were visiting to show them how awesome NYC is. Huge mistake! The woman asked if we were staying or going and I said staying since I didn't want to waste a bag and we would be there only a few minutes. She charged us $4.00 extra to stay (and the total was $6.50). I told her that was crazy and asked for refund and she gave us back $2.25. I have never in my life received worse customer service!! Shame on them. And the gelato is way too sweet. Terrible experience.

Upon entering this establishment, you are greeted by cavity worthy Italian delectables! They have an array of various sweets and it was pretty hard to just chose one as we ordered about four ( covers eyes ). I tried the African cannoli which is rolled in chocolate and vanilla cake with pistachio dipped ends and a dark chocolate outer layer. I was honestly expecting more from this dessert as I read such great reviews about it and was pretty disappointed in the hype because it was nothing to write home about. The Napoleon was my favorite and the mini cannoli was pretty good. For my beverage, I had a cappuccino which was quite rich. The service was just "ok" as it took about three - four minutes for someone to ask if we needed assistance - mind you we were the only ones waiting to order. All in all, this spot is a cute cafe with a huge variety of Italian desserts. Don't know if I would come back here in the future.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!!! They have a bunch of young girls with no customer service experience working here who lack any common sense or just plain old friendliness. My family and I came here yesterday after walking in the heat needing to get something sweet and cold to relax. My husband sat in a corner with the children and the stroller while I order to keep out of the way. While I was ordering the young girls all looked so confused like if I was not making any sense. I ordered one large cannoli 2 ice coffee a water and 2 scoop of gelato. The girl that takes the cannoli order can not take your gelato or coffee order. Then when I asked the girl if I can have a little cup to put some of the ice cream for my daughter she charged me for 2 ice creams after she said it was fine for me to have the little cup. Then when pouring the ice coffee she gave me the bottom of the barrel and was trying to fill the rest of the cup with milk as I was trying to explain to her that I was lactose and could not have milk she got upset. While in front of me another young girl comes over and scold the girl helping saying that people who are sitting down at the table can not order at the counter. I tried to explain my husband and children were just trying to stay out of the way and the girl just rolled her eyes. I will not be returning here. It is not all that anyways. Go to Vinieros in the city for better service and much better italian pastries. Very disappointed. Don't believe the hype.

Came here on. Friday night after dinner as we had a sweet tooth craving to fill. The mini cheese cakes were amazing! While sometimes cheese cake be super sweet and thick, this one was light and fluffy which made it so easy to enjoy! We ended up buying a few more items to go as we were so impressed. Definitely recommend!

I am so disappointed tonight I drove a long way from home to here just for a coffee a some strawberry chocolate covered, but I can't believe how I was treated first the girl at front desk was not friendly then she used a coffee was already sitting over there I don't know for how long I was in chock I ask her about the expresso coffee that is supposed to be made at the moment you order and she told me earlier today was a big line in the store and that was a left over what a shame "I have to pay for left overs" something is not right!!! So went I try to pay with my credit card for my left over coffee she told was $5.00 and is a minimum of $10.00 for credit card so I have to buy something else I get the strawberries and left the place now I'm in front of the store writing this comment and praying that no one else has to experience this what a shame very disappointed

Love, love, love this place! I grew up in south Jersey where pizza and cannolis were a regular occurrence. After living in LA for a few years I missed the treats of home. Coming back to NYC and discovering Fortunato's was the best discovery ever! I'm addicted to their cannolis, Italian cookies, and cappucinos. Its my go-to for bring desserts as opposed to let's say cupcakes. It still has an old-school Brooklyn-Italian vibe with it's black and white tiled floors and old men hanging out for hours at their tables. It's a total gem!

Fortunato Brothers is a Sicilian Italian Bakery. With deep roots stemming back over 40 years in the north section of Brooklyn it's still family owned and operated. If you sit in the side café and listen to the older Italian men speak in there native Sicilian dialect for a split second it takes you to another place. The pastries here are made with a different style of cream I would say more like a whipped style and not overly sweet, like most creams from Italian bakeries such as sweet cannoli style with piniolli nuts. I had the "African Cannoli" which was more like a chocolate cake rolled up with cream wrapped inside. I also had what is called " Lobster Tail" that is a flaky crust on the outside and cream and plenty of it right in the center. The flakey outside was not to dry and the cream inside was not too sweet had a perfect balance. They have an espresso bar but its not fully stocked. Wish they had Sambucca but only amaretto and annazetta but that's a Sicilian thing. Parking is very scarce. You will see cars lined up outside with people grabbing something to go. So be prepared to drive around a while looking for parking. Hey its Brooklyn what do you expect.

Nice looking as the place was, wished they'd taken more concern for the items in their display. My friend and I went there around 10:30 a.m. on a Friday morning, for coffee and dessert. We each ordered a red velvet cheesecake slice that was very dry and hard, to make matters worse, it tasted like refrigerator! Last time I checked, cheesecake was soft and red velvet was moist, but I guess the rule doesn't apply here! Not thrilled to have spent $21 for 2 old pastries and accompanying cappuccinos.

Good selection of pastries! Makes it hard to choose. I ordered a large cream puff and a blueberry Napoleon - after scrutinizing the display case for about 10 minutes. The girl was really nice, answering our many questions about what was what. The cream puff was good! Fresh and not too sweet. The cream was really good - and they sure put a lot in it!! I couldn't handle all of it so I scooped most of it out and let my sister put it in her latte. The blueberry Napoleon was amazing! Definitely gonna be thinking back on that one fondly for years to come. You might have to pick-axe your way through the top layer with your little fork - which can get messy - but each bite is creamy, crispy, powdery and delicious! My sister also enjoyed her cookie and mini-custard puff covered in chocolate. The seating is pretty spacious and relaxing for a little café. They have a bathroom in the back for customers. And a kitty

Was looking for a place that sold some good marzipan and I found Fortunato. It's a gorgeous dessert shop and their selection of ice cream is wide and varied, they're all delicious especially the pistachio and banana flavors. They sell a variety of pastries as well, all of which are fresh and reasonably priced. One of my favorite pastry shops in NYC, it's definitely well worth a visit here in Brooklyn.

  • Hey, B.

This place feels like my sugary, caffeinated Italian home, and I'm not even Italian. Some Sunday mornings, I come find a sunny table and drink coffee and plan my day. The old Italian men sit around and talk all morning, and sometimes a cat investigates its way around the cafe. pretty darn peaceful.

  • Acetyl C.

Lovely staff whenever I go. Old world charm. Just fantastic cakes, my family has been celebrating events with canoli cakes and other classics for many years. Definitely a little pricey for drinks and pastry but the cake prices are on par with places that are nowhere near as good as these.

  • Michelle E.

Amazing! Been my family's favorite go to bakery since I was a child. I like sitting down, having my cappuccino and dessert. I've turned a few friends on to coming here. Only reason this is getting 4 instead of 5 is that on several occasions we have ordered cakes to be made and they have been sour in taste. The black forest has given us most problems. I don't know if they tried selling us an old left over cake or...? My faves are the berry napoleon pastry, the hazelnut gelato and the strawberry and lulu cream cake!

I feel like every time I come it's different. So, this time I came in the morning with my family and we got one of the big swan pastries which was AWESOME!!! It was my sisters birthday so we came back in the afternoon and grabbed one of their white cakes with the pink roses. They asked the girl to write Happy Birthday on it and she did so in a bright red gel.....it didn't match the cake at all. Then we got home and did the whole Happy Bday stuff and ate the cake. It honest to God tasted like cornbread and whipped cream. Why?? I love this place so much. I hyped this place up to my out of town guests and we were all just disappointed. Get your shit together Fortunato!!! This is my 2nd visit in a row I was disappointed.

I was too busy stuffing my face and forgot to take pictures of all the lovely things I ate :( Anyway, when you walk into this place and see a ton of cute old Italian fellas, you know that you're in for a treat. I got a few cannolis, some cheesecake, some apple turnovers, linzer tarts, and sugar free cookies. The linzer tarts and cheesecake were delicious, but I've had better. The cannolis and turnovers were definitely remarkable, and I'd go for them again! Dad had the sugar free stuff and he wasn't complaining at all. I'll be back here whenever I'm in the area!

Fortunato Brothers is a decent bakery located in the Williamsburg area. If you are looking to satisfy a sweet fix then they have pretty much everything. The prices here are pretty decent. Blue Stove which is a few blocks away has less items and is twice as expensive but the quality to be honest isn't that much better then Fortunato. They have home made gelato in a ton of flavors. All the classic desserts like tiramisu and cheesecake. Lots of specially made cookies and mini cakes. If you are going to a potluck at a friend's house you can get a bunch of items here and not break your wallet. Taste wise it does vary a lot. There have been some gelato flavors that were outstanding the cheesecake is ok. The tiramisu is fantastic. They have great carrot cake. They of course serve coffee, cappuccino, latte's etc etc. Decent coffee but not the best. They have an excellent hot chocolate. The staff is friendly and will give you samples if you are not sure what to get. Check out the menu online and call ahead to make sure they have what you want as they sometimes and natually run out of things.

Amazing Italian bakery & coffee for traditional pasteries such as biscotti, frollas, croissants, cannolis, baba rum, and more specialized items like customized marzapone with different beautiful fruits such pommegranate, marine life, pizza; worth a visit. In addition, there is an variety of gelato flavors. A treat this bakery has been in business since 1976. The most authentic experience is conversing with the charming locals about the history of this charismatic neighborhood.

Prices are different if you stay or if you go. Went in today, order a cheesecake, the lady asked me if I was staying or leaving, I said I was staying, I thought it had to do with the paper bag she grabbed, but then she said the cake is $5:75 to stay, $3:75 to go. I was shocked, had to pack up my stuff and leave to eat the cake somewhere else. Also, I don't feel the staff is very friendly, I don't think I'll be coming back, like ever!

My buddy just came back from Italy. He's moving there, spent a month there, banged a girl there. So whatever he said about Italy I take as being legit. He is the subject matter expert. He came to visit me for the Giglio feast and we were fiending some Cannoli. Lo and behold, the feast ain't got none! We headed over all the while hearing about this gorgeous treat called Baba. It's soaked in rum he says. If they have it this place is legit he says. Now everyone that's ever been there knows what it's like when you go in. It looks like a bakery with a bunch of wise guys hanging around. We took a seat that apparently wasn't ours, I think some wise guys, and were moved to a different place. We got the Espresso, Sofgiatelli, Marzapan and the Baba. It was delightful. Just like this review. I have nothing bad to say. This place is good. The espresso - good The Sofgiatelli -ricotta cream is good The Marzapan - good The baba - good. My buddy said this place is good. Good.

My family has been buying pastries and cakes from Fortunato's for as long as I can remember. My mother has been living in the area since she was 11 and has been going there ever since to satisfy her sweet tooth (35 years now). My father still goes every single day (seriously - every day) for his cappuccino. However, my two favorites from Fortunato's are their gelatos and their cannolis. YUM! The staff is always warm and welcoming. I've never tried anything here that I did NOT like. :)

Everything you want in a neighborhood Italian Bakery and Cafe. Great espresso and the Italian Cheesecake is my favorite.

  • Wendy C.

The pastries look better than it tastes sad to say. I bought a Black Forest cake that was just right in terms of sweetness but it tasted like refrigerator. Same goes for the American cheesecake. The place looks nice though but that fridge taste just can't go past my palate.

Walked past this place a ton of times for over a year when I first came to the neighborhood. Always wanted an excuse to patronize the place. Decided to order my son's cake for his 1st b-day party from them. I'm all about supporting local shops in my community. Unfortunately the service was terrible. I don't support shops that treat their patrons like nuisances. I'm a very patient person and my husband owns a restaurant as well so I know when people are in the weeds etc. That was not the case here. They were simply uninterested in my business apparently as the service they "gave" me reflected as such.

Might be my new favorite bakery. I had little birthday cake from this place from my coworker last week. It was amazing, their baked cake taste like european grandma's homemade cake. Reading reviews of other people made me feel I would like to also try their coffee , baguette, and other pastries sometime soon.

It has been years since I have been there but my brother was in the area so I made him stop by. I have been dreaming about these cannolis for at least seven years. Every other cannoli pales in comparison. And now I have given my brother the same impossible goal of finding a better cannoli and Fortunato brothers.

AN institution in Brooklyn! Plenty of pastries, cookies and very very friendly customer service. A must try when in the area.

Fortunato is one those true neighborhood favorites. They've been here for years long before Williamsburg became Williamsburg. Anytime I need a pick me up, I would come here whenever I need a pick me up. The mini-pastries are amazing - cream puffs, cheese cakes, strawberry shortcakes, canolies, apple tarts, etc. The list goes on. If you're a coffee addict like me, you'll love the espresso here. Fortunato is the Ferrara of Brooklyn without the overpriced Manhattan menu!

    (5)
  • Stan C.

Fortunato's makes great cakes (ice cream or regular), especially for birthdays and other special occasions. REAL whipped cream. Deeeelicious! And worth every penny. They look good, ....and taste better. I have gone there for many years, and the quality is always the best. Although they have a variety of ready-to-go cakes available , I come in a few days before time to special order a cake. Warning: if you come in for a cake, you'll probably also walk out with a couple of bags of their irresistible cookies and pastries. But hey, ya gotta splurge once in a while, right?

    (5)
  • Jenine F.

I must confess- I've never been to Fortunato Brothers in Brooklyn. I am enamored of their cannolis, and enjoy them twice a year, every year at the Forest Hills Austin Street Fair. I'll pass by the Mozzarepa stand and ignore the Sausage and Pepper Sandwich trucks but I will make a beeline for this bakery's cannolis every single time- and they're not even for me. My beloved's beautiful face lights up everytime I bring home a bag full of these delicacies...and this is what it's all about for me.

On a holiday weekend, we were a group of 10 with a great craving for desserts. Fortunato Brothers popped up on Yelp with good reviews and still open at 11pm. The staff accommodated us and provided table service. Wide selection of pastries. I tried a couple of the pastries and the gelato. Nothing exceptional. Looking back, I should have tried the regular cannoli.

Amazing carmel gelato. Get some! Also had cappuccino and, this may be strange but, I'd never had cinnamon in my cappuccino until today. The guy at the coffee bar offered, I said sure and I am forever changed. Yummy.

I've had the fresh gelato milkshakes time and time again and they have very good pastries. A little more variety would be appreciated but then again if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Nice waitresses and open late so its great for cravings at any time, I recommend it!

It's not often I leave the country of Manhattan to venture into Brooklyn but at a recent festival I came across the Fortunato Brothers' scrumptious goodies on offer. As when encountering any new pastry suitor I approached lightly, ordering only one cannoli. Oh ma gawd! After one bite I had to put it down to get back in line and order a box to share with friends. I am partial to the plain, but they had such a pretty variety on display, chocolate-dipped, strawberry mixed into the cream, oh yeah. Some 70's disco tune played in the background as the younger Fortunato packed my order and the older Fortunato with a heavy accent announced to the long line of customers that this song was a hit when he was a gigolo! Ok. Cool. Just keep the cannolis coming Fortunatos.

This place is a great Italian bakery in NYC. A group of us had a variety of pastries and we were all very happy with out choices. The rainbow cookies are awesome. The African cannoli is rolled in chocolate and vanilla cake and the ends are covered in pistachios. The strawberry shortcake comes in two choices, the standard yellow cake option and also as a devils food option. then topped off with strawberries. hot chocolate, espresso with Sambucca. Totally worth the 15 minute ride from Manhattan.

Had Fortunato Brothers when they were at a street fair and was so happy to actually make it out to their bakery. Their cannolis are the best I've ever had. Cannolis usually have a gritty sweet cream filling and this is the first cannoli that has perfect grit-less cannoli cream without losing that distinct cannoli cream filling taste. (Did you get any of that?) It's a cute place with table service. Great to warm up to a cup of joe with a LARGE cannoli... you'll be disappointed if you order the small. Get the large. LARGE. Have yet to try the rest of the desserts... but get the LARGE CANNOLI.

I have been going to Fortunato Bros. over 25 years and have never been disappointed. Many businesses after years, start using cheaper ingredients, but not Fortunato Brothers. They have maintained using high quality ingredients and still serving the best Italian pastries and cakes and coffee. I travel from the Bronx so you know they are worth the trip.

Mi piace! This place is good. To keep things simple and sweet, just like un'buon cappuccino... Authentic, with sounds of Italian throughout. Delicious, cappucino and espresso to die for. Deserts for days, Italian hospitality, and an aged and authentic interior. Easy to spend a whole day here on a dime. I love Fortunato Brothers, highly recommend. Made me feel like I was back in Italia.

so i called my friend one morning and made him get out of bed to drive to bensonhurst so we could go on a cannoli crawl. this crawl involved trying 8 different cannolis from different places in the area. i'm a little biased towards these guys because there was once a street fair and i stumbled upon these guys and was obsessed. this was the last stop on our tour and was amazing and a good place to rest. i actually almost wanted to have a book and just hang out there for hours because it was not very crowded and pretty large on a saturday afternoon. they also make large themed cakes, which looked amazing. the pastries here looked good and despite the fact that i hate most things about williamsburg, this bakery and this place felt comfortable and homey (there were guys playing chess in the corner). i would go again to hang out. service was spotty and it was different to get someone's attention but once we did, we were all set. the cannoli was: fresh, the cream was a good consistency, the shell was hard and there was just the right amount of powdered sugar there are no more comments than that and they aren't too far from manhattan

Holy crap! I sat down and had the gelato and my mind immediately had flashbacks to my honeymoon in Sicily. Grabbed a box of cannolis to go and they were just as jaw-dropping.

The cannoli I just ate from Fortunato Brothers was the best cannoli I've ever eaten. It was the perfect cannoli. The shell was crisp and fresh, not soggy at all, perfect thickness, and didn't break in the wrong places while you were trying to eat it. The filling was overflowing, creamy (not at all mealy), fluffy, and perfectly sweetened. And the size of the whole cannoli was absolutely perfect: just enough to leave you not wanting more, yet not so much that you feel like you overdid it. Seriously. Anyone reading this that lives in, is planning to visit, or is currently visiting Brooklyn needs to go there and eat a cannoli. Even if you don't like cannolis, their cannoli may just convert you into a cannoli lover. I just discovered this place today, and sadly I am moving far far away on October 1st. I plan to try almost everything on the menu before I leave. The cannoli was that good. After I'm done, I'll update this review. UPDATE!: I tried a bunch of other things and they were phenomenal. I'd say pass on the pretty painted looking pastries shaped like fruits and eggplants because those were just solid sweet almond paste. Kinda gross, but everything else was delicious. You go now!

Solid rum cake and cream puffs. Don't forgot about their espresso either. The place has this neighborhood feel the moment you walk in.

It is with great love and respect that write this review for Fortunato Brothers. Their Italian pastries and sweets have been a staple in my family holiday gatherings for many many years. When we travel out of town, we have one request and one request only. "bring Cannolis from Frotunatos" and we do. The staff there are nice and they do a good job of handling the heavy foot traffic on sundays and holidays (dude, every italian and their mother love thm some pastries on easter sunday! plan ahead!) I dont have a major sweet tooth for flaky italian pastries but sometimes crave a cannoli- and they deliver. One day my mother and I, on one of our brunch days, walked by the store on a particularly hot day and decided to get a cheese cake. We love their cheesecake. Mom cut into it immediately and I decided to wait before i grabbed a slice. Later that evening, I served my self a slice of the creamy cheesecake and noticed a faint gray spot in my cake. Not wanting to take a chance, i gently scraped at the gray spot. And it got darker. Pretty soon, i was digging into my cake to find a giant black horse fly in my cheesecake. Not on the top, not on the bottom but DEAD in the CENTER of my cake. I was horrified. I left the specimen as it was and brought it back to the bakery where they took ZERO responsiblity for the fly. And even had the audacity to say "how do we know you didnt put it there to get a free cheesecake?" Wait a minute. Hold on. Are you trying to tell me that you think i want ANOTHER cheesecake after that??? Craziness. Despite that epicly GROSS story, i still go in there for a 7 layer cookie... but NEVER cheesecake. My rating before cheesecake: 4 solid stars My rating AFTER cheesecake: 2 weak stars.

Love Fortunato's have been going there since I was a little girl with my grandma. My family just ordered a cake for a family party, the cake was amazing!! I have never been disappointed in Fortunato's cakes. I could absolutely go there every day big fan!!! It comes down to if you want great italian pastries, coffee and cake go to Fortunato's.

We were excited to go to Fortunato Brothers after a great meal at nearby Motorino - and even more excited when we saw the delicious pastry in the display cases when we walked in. Let me start off with the service... Our server was lovely. We ordered some coffees (perfect) and they get the 1 star review for this alone. (they steam the milk that they bring to the table) Here is where it all goes awry. A young lady was using a brush to clean the crumbs in the display case. (innocent enough) but she did this kneeling and sitting on the floor - where she proceeds to rest the brush from time to time. Yes, you heard me, she put the brush on the wet, dirty floor where people stand after they walk in off the street! I cringed every time that brush hit the floor and then seeing her use it to clean the inside of the cookie and pastry display case. I wanted to vomit! (and needless to say, did not eat the desserts we ordered) To make matters worse, this pretty young Italian girl with "cannoli cream for brains", gets up and playfully uses the same brush to, get this.... Tickle her male co-worker on the back of his head and neck!!! He was clearly grossed out because he shoo'ed her away. "Cannoli Cream for Brains", giggles and twirls playfully away. Fuggetaboutit! Avoid this place at all costs!!!

For as long as I can remember, my family has gone here for their birthday cakes which are phenomenal. We usually get the canoli cream cakes, blueberry napoleon, and strawberry banana depending on whose birthday it is. But I have to say, I enjoy the Blueberry Napoleon the most!!!

I want to live in Fortunato's. They have really great cream puffs and their canolli has the best cream I've ever had so far. It's worth the trip, for you non-Brooklynites and I'm so happy to have this within walking distance! (Though my gut is probably not thanking me that much). I love it. They love me. And they have lobster tails? Word. End of story.

I know I should have gone for the gelato or canolis like other yelpers suggested. But it was 11 AM, freezing winter time, I just didn't feel like having those. So I chose sfogliatelle. The shell was stale. the texture was more like puff pastry than flaky buttery. I chose a small one, a few bite size which was $2.50. I could have gotten the nice almond croissant from Northside Bakery and still have left 55 cents in my pocket.

Dear Justine, Whenever you give us the smallest morsel of anything from Fortunato Bros. we just go wild. Our Jewish make-up makes us partial to apricot or poppy seed fillings, so we should be slightly secretive in our love...but we just had to scream out loud. Whether it's crumbs from fresh baked cookies, cream from a cannoli or the most amazing gelato we've ever had. Anything will make us cheat. We had some last night, but when do we get more? Sincerely, Your Taste Buds.

It's pretty hard to believe that 2 of the 3 reviews of this place deal with milkshakes. I didn't even know they served milkshakes. Nothing would possess me to walk through the door at Fortunato's (which aptly has an erratically roaming black cat) and order a milkshake, from this, the last bastion of a dying Brooklyn and Italian-American institution: the pastry-shop cafe. Too often people move into this neighborhood and head west to Bedford or south to Grand, only to dump a ton of money into something they fully expect to be better simply because it's new. Fortunato's has been around Williamsburg a long time, and it still does things the old-fashioned way, such as filling cannoli fresh as you order them, and serving a caffe coretto if you ask politely and with a nod to tradition. Even in Bensonhurst, the last remaining "Little Italy" of the five boroughs, you'd be hard pressed to find a pasticceria where you can sit and enjoy your treats long enough to watch the old paesani walk by and grumble to each other in dialect. This place is a winner.

Gota get the right stuff at the right store right? If you like cheese cakes, cannolis, eclairs, home made ice cream, you MUST stop here for them. Chocolate swirl cheese cake, yum. Its thick rich creamy taste is absolute! (however if you like light cheesecakes, might consider stay away from these) Cannolis and eclairs are perfect with an afternoon coffee. They are fresh and not heavy. (dont eat too many at once!) Home made ice cream is great during summer time, i would just walk there for there ice cream time to time. They got some funky flavor sometimes. (like mint-something which taste like tooth paste lol) stop by and get a few cannolis on your way home, you will come back for sure.

Fortunato Brothers is the perfect spot for an end to a great evening with a date-that is if your date is actually worth it and going well enough. The endless display of pastries and desserts actually DO taste as good as they look, unlike many bakeries in the area. Nestled on a tree-lined residential street, it feels like I am time-traveling to Brooklyn in the old days...Not to mention that on my early morning walk to the subway I always smell the amazing aromas coming from that place. What a gem.

I can't tell you how many times I have had to trek over here and buy my wife rainbow cookies. No really. It's ridiculous. I'd tell you what I like but I've never been privy to the naming conventions. I just say "I'd like one of those thingies. Give me two of those doo dads, etc." I'm not too keen on their birthday cakes.

    (3)
  • Vanessa V.

OK, I have never been to the actual bakery. I have had their cannoli at street fairs, and have received boxes of their assorted cookies from clients at work...and they are orgasmic. I have never been to Sicily or Rome, so I don't have the authentic versions to compare them to, but of all the places I have tried, this is by far the best. If I see you on the street with a Fortunato Cannoli, just hand it over and no one gets hurt!!!

This place is a true diamond in the rough. Pros: - About as good as Brooklyn Italian pastries get. Definitely try a cannoli for the real deal experience - Awesome gelato (my faves are the banana and bacio (chocolate with hazelnuts) and I'm not really a banana-flavor person. - Very good coffee/espresso - Nice cafe atmosphere, very relaxed, where you can sit and talk getting feeling rushed out - Almost always some old-school Italian Williamsburg residents who have been here a long time, almost always some people speaking Italian - good for an Italian staycation. The owners are from Italy too. - A very friendly cat who may jump in your lap Cons: - probably not good if you're on a diet? but coffee's low cal.

I miss this place. It's my first stop after leaving the airport (after pizza @ Grimaldi's of course). Someone from here needs to give cannoli lessons to the West Coast.

The mother of all cannolis... that's all I have to say. Great pastries, Italian cookies, cappuccino, espresso, gelato- served up by pretty young women in a setting that screams old school Brooklyn. I think you get the picture. Was in there a couple of weeks ago on a visit back east and had a ten minute conversation with a neighborhood guy with a rope chain around his neck and a beautiful, exotic, white mc caw on his arm.

A coworker bought a birthday cake for another coworker from this place. The cake was huge, and as a staff of all women, we kept saying, "Yeah, I just want a small piece," or "We'll never be able to finish this whole cake!" It was devoured in approximately fifteen seconds. We were like vultures circling in on our static prey. I think there was some elbowing, and there were some passive aggressive claims on slices, too ("Well, I DID only have a small slice, so I guess I should take another..."). I could have sworn I saw someone licking the circular cake tray. It was moist and had banana and strawberry filling (it was the exact cake in one of the pictures uploaded on yelp-- white icing with strawberries). I'm not really a cake person-- they are usually too dry for me. Normally, cookies do it for me. But I could eat this cake every day of the week. Thank goodness I work around the corner from this place. I will be waddling there every day for the rest of the year.

Sit with your back against the wall, facing the door at this place - there may be hit anytime! That's the feeling you get anyway - heavy duty marble of all shapes and styles ("I know a guy"), faux tin ceilings, chintz galore - this place is right out of every lousy mob movie you've seen on tv. And that is part of the charm. What makes it is a pro behind the coffee bar, who reminds us all why Starbucks is closer to McDonald's than an espresso spot in Florence. The gelato (gelati?) is really good, not an overwhelming choice of flavors, but plenty to choose from - coconut, straciatella and caramel are three I've loved. Canoli's are also really good. But the best part is the way everybody trusts you - walk in, they don't ever ask for money, you have to track them down to pay for what you ordered. Great spot from another era.

This is where you come for the real deal. It's the best of old ethnic Brooklyn in a neighborhood that was predominantly Italian for years. The desserts get a 10 if that was possible. The service is very hit and miss. Some of the girls that work behind the counter shouldn't even be allowed to work at the NYC car impound yard. It's not all of them by any means. Other than that, you have the perfect Italian American bakery and cafe.

    (4)
  • Mary T.

Yum! Good coffee, great gelato, and amazing cannolis. And they're open until 11pm or something. Always a handful of older italian men hanging around the shop. If you can catch a conversation - it'll add to the enjoyment. And don't be surprised if you hear about someone being wacked or going to the mattresses. Apparently on of the Fortunato boys was charged with a mob-related activity. Now that's a real cannoli.

I used to love Fortunato Bros. Every birthday, holiday, special occasion I would walk 20 blocks just to get their cheese cake. Well, today was the last time! I went there today and boy o-boy what a disappointment that was.!! After 20 minutes of waiting, finally a girl asks me what would I like, all of the sudden a guy next to me appears with a coffee and she completely ignores me and goes straight to him! I said ' excuse me me miss, I believe I was here first and she STILL ignores me and starts to ask the guy in Spanish what kind of muffin he wants! I wait another 10 min, finally decide to get a teramisu and 3 small cheese cakes. 3 boxes with cakes are passed to me, I look at him and ask " Can I have a plastic bag so I can put those cakes in ?" He passes me the bag I say " Thank you" but he just gives me a look and walks away!". I go home after dinner try a cheese cake with my mom and OH MY GOD what a shame!!! - THE BOTTOM OF THE SMALL CHEESE CAKE IS A PLASTIC TOP FROM A COFFEE CUP!!!! The same type that you get with your morning coffee from a vendor guy! IMAGINE BEING AT A PARTY, AND SERVE THOSE CHEESE CAKES TO YOUR FRIENDS! That's not all, on top of that - those cheese cakes tasted like an EGG POWDER!!!! What happened to Fortunato ?? Rude service, egg powder- NO THANKS! And what about the credit cards??? THEY DON"T ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS!!! How 16 century of them!!! Never again I will go there!! I'm currently looking for a new favorite bakery. :)

Just got back from Brooklyn, and this was the only destination that I absolutely had to hit during my visit. They make the best cannoli (singular is "cannolo," you rubes) in the known universe, owing to a combination of creamy, non-grainy filling and sturdy but still flaky and light pastry tubes. Unless we make contact with the Ricotta aliens from planet Beta Cannoli of the Flaky Crust Galaxy, it is unlikely that you will ever eat a better one, so give them a shot. Also, the cappuccino was delicious.

I can't say that I've actually visited the bakery, but they had a booth at the Memorial Day Festival in Astoria, Queens. The big sign that said, Imported from Brooklyn" caught my eye and made me laugh. I've had cannolis in Westfield, Mass (my first ever), Florence, Italy, and in North Beach, San Francisco. I have to say Fortunato was tops (or at least equivalent to the ones in Italy). 5 stars for the cannoli!

I was in the area and based on the Yelp ratings stopped by and checked it out. The place looks like a typical Italian bakery. However, the staff was not very "welcoming". Actually, it took awhile for anyone to acknowledge us for "table seating". We asked the girls behind the counter if we were waiting in the right area and they told us someone would be with us but no body came. Bottom-line, we went up to the counter to order what we wanted and they brought it to the table we chose. Although they got my order wrong, the food wasn't bad (but it wasn't great either) therefore they get a 2 for "Meh. I've experienced better." If you're really in the mood for some good Italian bakery with "decent service" head into the city. I would only recommend this place if you're in the area and ordering to go. But don't expect a smile from the girls behind the counter.

Delicious!! I am giving 4 stars bc they only accept cash. But, it is so worth a trip to the ATM! All of the pastries are delicious. They have a great variety, so, you can get a sample of your favorites. Service is fast and friendly. On my most recent trip, the girl behind the counter was patient enough to explain some of the items that I was not familiar with. I find their prices to be reasonable and their quality way above average! Yum!

This place is badass. It's the only word that almost captures the amazingness. Authentic, delicious gelato for $1.50? You have to be kidding me. And this gelato is 10 steps ahead of any ritzy overpriced gelato you find in the city. The bakery case is like a museum. The staff is friendly and will let you sample things. The coffee is great and everything is at super-reasonable prices. I can't believe I never knew about Fortunato. And it's only one block away from the Graham L.... this might become an everyday visit for me.

I cannot say that I was dissapointed by fortunato brothers, for I had no expectations. People raved to me about this little shop in Williamsburg that makes the best gelato in new york city. This happens a lot. I have pretty much stopped going to gelato places that people rave about, since 999 times out of 1000, the so called gelatos are low fat overstabilized corn syrup, milk powder, whey, caragennen, guar gum, poly sorbate_80 infused frozen concoctions, flavored with labratory produced ''natural flavorings and mediocre nuts and chocolates that are packed in italy. These places are all the same, because they are simply buying bags of dry ice cream mix from italy and adding water. Italy of course is the world leader in high tech ice cream. After wwII they were a very poor country and could not afford to use cream and eggs in their ice creams anymore. Conveniently this was also a time when the industrialization of food science and production was burgeoning. Suddenly avai lable were a vast array of thickeners and stabilzers with strange hard to pronounce names being sourced from plants and minerals that were hardly edible. This my sad readers is why your belovd gelato is lower in fat, becuase its cheaper to use science than cream and eggs. It is not traditional, for how could it be? Try making an ice cream with little cream and no eggs, it will be icy and horrible. 100 years ago and even 80 years ago they did not have these advanced additives on italy. Traditional italian ice cream according to harold mcgee has even more cream and eggs than french custard. Hopefully some in italy are still doing this, though I was unimpressed on my tour. I tasted the bacio. It was so light. Of course it tasted smooth, for couldn't it with all of th gums and fillers. but underneatht the smoothness was an awful emptiness on my pallet. Followed then by a horrible film all ovr my mouth. So unnatural. The hazelnuts were low grade and tasteless obviously of turkish origin. The chocolate was also bad. Then I had the pistachio. At least it didn'T have almond paste in it. Way too sweet. Thy are using a sugared pistachio paste done in italy with turkish nuts and antioxidants. Why not use sicilian nuts, at $2.75 for a small you could most certainly afford to. ice cream is meant to be delicatley sweet and creamy. This was cloyingly sweet, and had no depth of texture. It made my stomach feel icky. So, shame on all of you for raving about this places ice cream or gelatos as you call them. it is your lack of care about ingredients that is fueling the ever worsening condition of food in a but south east asia. I have had way better ice cream on islands and mexico. for now I'm going to stick with van leeuwen artisan in new york, buy rite in san francisco and the bent spoon in princeton. didn't the color of the kiwi scare anyone? It looked like that futuristic playdough called GAK.

They have the greated baked goods! The coffee is divine. In an ever gentrifying Brooklyn, it's the type of place where you can still spot the old Italian men smoking cigars outside whiling the afternoon away. I love those amaretto cookies from here, so good! I keep trying to make excuses to be in the area, it's too far from home!

One of my friends claimed that this place had the best gelato in NYC. I don't think I can argue with him. I got three scoops of gelato for $3 -- that's right, 3 buckaroos. I don't think you can get gelato that cheap anywhere in Manhattan. If you go, I highly recommend a scoop of the Baci (chocolate hazelnut).

Best canollis I've ever had. I take trips out here from Harlem just for the cannolis. The mini cheesecakes are the shit. They have so much stuff, and it's all good. Yes, the service is a bit slow and not always the friendliest but really it doesn't matter! This place is so wonderful, it's worth every minute and every dollar spent there. I always bring out of town guests there. I've had many of my friends and family beg me to send cannolis to California!

The milkshakes here can't be beat! Thick and delicious, they go well with Fortunato's similarly amazing cannolis. This neighborhood Italian pastisserie is open well into the evening, making it perfect for that late-night dessert stop. There's table service, and the tables on the glass-enclosed porch are great for a relaxing snack.

I ordered a cake for my son's first b-day party. I had called weeks in advance to prepare for the big day we were having. The manager, I guess, let us come in and sample the fillings so we can get an idea of what we were picking out. We choose our fillings (chocolate, and lulu cream or something like that) with vanilla cake. I picked up the cake the morning of the birthday, and to my surprise the cake was huge (not sure what i was thinking a 40 person cake would look like). But I was happy that I had more then expected. I personally am not a big sweets kind of a gal, or into cake so much. But as I was cutting up the cake to start handing out to the kids and parents...... all I heard behind me was "OMG, this cake is delicious" and "really good cake". So of course I had to taste it. And it was good. Some even came back for seconds, and went home with a ton of left-overs. I did not give it 5 stars b/c we had to pay cash, they charged for delivery, and over-all I thought the cake was a bit pricey (but from what I am hearing all b-day cakes cost around the same price).

We tried the gelato, which was amazing; we tried other things, which were perfectly fine. A cookie is a cookie is a cookie, you know what I mean? But the star of this place is the plain-looking, oddly shaped "rum ball." It's a baked pastry that puffs up and then they soak it in rum and refrigerate it. The rum practically oozes out of the pastry. Need I say more? Satisfy your sweet tooth and get a shot at the same time! The bakery is cute and there is more than ample seating.

The pastries here are ok. Not the best I've had. The gelato and espresso is pretty good. One thing that bothers me here is that the canollis are pre-filled. Doesn't make any sense. No real Italian bakery that I've been to does such a thing. You're supposed to leave the shell empty and fill the cream on the spot. If you buy the canolli at 2 in the afternoon it will be soggy.

We were referred to this place by a gal who worked here and thankfully bypassed the Vegan one we originally were planning on going to (we are not vegan people and have no interest in non-dairy/delicious baked goods). We had the cannoli, a cup of joe and this cupcake thing that looked like a dan tat (Chinese Custard Tart). Everything plus the service was awesome. There was such a great family vibe that really made you feel welcome to sit there and really enjoy your coffee and pastry. I love that. Wish I had space/time to try all the crazy looking marzipan (the case is full of marzipan flowers and things). I'm sure everything else was amazing as well. Hope I can come back soon!

HOLY CANOLLI! Canollis are my absolute favorite sweet treat and Fortunato Brothers is one of the best. Try the "Canollis in a GIANT canolli" for a party-pleaser. It's the Turducken of deserts. WONDERFUL!

When I went in to grab a cake the night before a coworkers birthday party at work, I was happy to see that they had a ton of beautiful looking cakes available with a variety of flavors to choose from. They wrote a message on it in matching frosting, boxed it up, and I was in and out of there in less than 10 minutes. To make a long story short, my coworkers loved the cake and I plan to come back here every time I need one.

It's bad when you discover something this good so close to your home. I tried my best to avoid the sugary goodness but alas I am only human and slightly food obsessed so one late night we finally did it. I don't regret it for a second, in fact I'll be back (most likely) every single late drunken night on my way home. Mmmm chocolate covered strawberries so big you can't eat them in one bite, red velvet cake that's fresh, moist and delicious at 11 pm on a friday night and just about any other delectable dessert you can think of. It's off the main drag so to speak but just wander a block or two off graham and you'll find it and you'll be oh so happy you did!

I love that this place is right down the street from me. So convenient. I've been told by Italians that this place is good so I will just have to go ahead and agree. I for sure know that I do like this place... They have tons of cookie options, cake option, bar options...and gelato (delicious, delicious gelato). Often times I get desserts to go, but I've got to say, I thoroughly enjoy having my dessert there with a double espresso to watch it down. It's surrounded by glass (the seating area, so on a nice day...it's a warm fuzzy feeling. You can get a perfect out of dessert to satisfy your sweet tooth and then move on your way.

This place is definitely a great neighborhood gem. My sister has been living in the area for the last year or so but thanks to yelp, I stumbled upon this place. We walked in seeing a large space with tables and chairs along with a section with a long row of glass cases filled with an assortment of sweets. None of the items were labeled so we had to ask the woman behind the counter to tell us what everything was. She was extremely accommodating taking the time to let us know what everything was. We walked away with around 8 different items from the case with no idea what our total would be. We were extremely surprised to be told the total was $12.90. Say what? This place is going to prove to be dangerous in the future when we are trying to be more health conscious. I didn't even try the gelato case yet but I can vouch that it looked great! When we went home, we shared our box with a few others. My favorite was the cannoli! The rest of the group really loved the rum-soaked cake. My brother said he loved the cannoli and the napoleon. I can't wait to go back and get a cup of coffee and try another treat. Their hours are fantastic - open pretty early in the morning until late at night (again, dangerous for the health-conscious) There were several large pre-made Easter gift baskets along the wall ready to be bought/picked-up. They had several cakes on display so I have no doubt many people pre-order their goodies too. Cash only!

Iv been coming to this place for over 10 years now, and it never disappoints... (That's right I was actually raised in North Brooklyn!) My family has been buying the cakes here every time there is a birthday. The chocolate sponge cake with bananas is SO FRESH! Not too try not too moist just perfect. Trust me you should try it. Their cookie selection is on point too, I'm generally not a fan of rainbow cookie but last time I was there I decided to give THEIR rainbow cookie a try and see If i will have a change of heart... and I did! None of that overly sweet processed sugar taste like iv had in the past. Simply moist and slightly sweet little bites of deliciousness! I hope this place stays here forever! Cannolies, Pasticciotti, Gellato, and once in a while Limoncello by the bottle! CASH ONLY!

A mind-boggling array of delicate pastries nestle like jewels in curved display cases. Imported luxury foodstuffs wrapped in shining paper rest on a banquet table. And a multitude of of brightly-colored gelato flavors beckon you deeper into this palace of Italian confectionary. Inside, utilitarian but homey decor welcomes you (the holiday decorations are a nice touch), and the ample seating encourages you to linger over your repast as long as you please. My cherry turnover was flaky and delicious, and my friend's hot chocolate came topped with a decadent mountain of whipped cream. Coming here feels like visiting the Italian grandmother you never had.

I don't understand the hype! Disappointed is an under statement! We ordered a handful of treats to go and ended up taking a bite of each and throwing away the box! I couldn't believe it! The pistachio cannoli was stale. We each got one and neither had the crunch a cannoli shell should have! First time in my life I threw away a cannoli. The other treats that we took a bite of and threw away: mocha cookie (soggy), tiramisu, and the Italian cookie. Everything tasted like it had been sitting for weeks. If that weren't bad enough, the help behind the counter was rude. I hate to sound nasty so I will try to note of one positive aspect of my experience: the cute cat sleeping on the chair!

The coconut gelato is so good! The texture with the coconut flakes adds the right amount of chewy gristle. I paired it with the blood orange and although it wasn't my best match up, it was still two frozen scoops of heaven. The blood orange was slightly sweet, refreshing, with the right amount of tart. I'd get it again and pair it with the lemon/lime. The bakery cases were filled to the brim with cannoli's, cookies, cakes, cream puffs, eclairs, and pretty much everything under the moon. The ordering set up was slightly odd as we went to the register to order, bc that's what one would assume by the set up of this place, but since we were having it there, we were told to pick a seat and they provide table service. I wouldn't have minded this except for when we were ready to go we got up to pay bc no one ever came back. Come for the gelato for sure. I here their cannoli's are also great.

Forunato Brothers is one of the best bakeries in all of Brooklyn. They have some of the best coffee, gelato, and pastries all rolled up into one old-school joint. They have plenty of seating, have been around forever, and have an awesome old school vibe that makes you feel right at home. Right down to the big giant mean as hell ginger cat that lives inside of the place. Let me tell you what you do if you want an amazing meal / date night in this area of Williamsburg. First you take yourself to Frost Restaurant (5 min walk) you eat a giant stockpile of baked ziti or whatever you wish there and have a carafe of wine. Then you make your way on over to Forunato Brothers. Their iced coffee is the bomb and packs a punch, it isn't akin to iced coffees that a lot of Italian spots do that is more desert like and sweet. The coffee here is rather strong and will wake you up real quick, combined with one of their fantastic cannoli it is amazing. However if it is a really hot night or perhaps you'r just a huge fan of gelato, well, just head on over to the gelato counter because they have around 20 amazing flavors of it also. I can't comment on the quality of their cakes, but I can only imagine how amazing one of their cheesecakes would be. Forunato Brothers -- One of the few last standing bastions of the Hipster Defense Force.

This place needs an attitude adjustment. 2 snotty ass bitches behind the counter almost made me want to punch the manly looking taller one in the face. Too much Brooklyn attitude for me... Pastry was decent, not over the top as people have raved. I've had better. Way better. I would never go back unless they hire a new staff and know how to talk to customers.

My husband knew about this bakery before we met. I've had their goods before, but when it came to our wedding, I was blown away. It's been almost two years since we tied the knot, and people still rave about our "cake." We had three profiterole "towers" made. It took the stress off of choosing tiers, flavors, sponge, fondant, etc. And the best part..... you can order it fresh for your anniversary rather than eat a cake that's been in the freezer for a year that doesn't taste the same as it did on your wedding day.

They have amazing coffee and they have a wide variety of different pastries for you to try miniature too large I'm sure you can find a pastry that will suit your taste buds. I often go in there for their famous rainbow cookies and they're always fresh cannolis they are truly to die for. I also frequently ordered cakes for special occasions there as well I never have a problem with my orders the cakes are always fresh and made to my likings from Mother's Day two birthday parties to confirmations and communions they make any cake for you

Good: - This place smells fucking amazing - They are more than happy to let you sample their amazing gelatos - Plenty of seating - Open late! Bad: - Workers are very slow - There's waiter service, which can be a good thing but not when you're just looking to get something and eat it there - Everything I've tried has just been okay - There should be a better way to handle all the customers. My friend thought it'd be cool if they had those little pink (or sometimes yellow) number slips you see at some supermarkets. That way, no one will cut you in line!

I dropped in looking for a coffee before a train out of New York. Man, I'm glad I came in here. I ordered one of the tastiest croissants I've eaten in a long while. The bakery racks were a joy to peruse. I'll definitely be back.

When I first walked in here my tastebuds reeled in anticipation of all the pastries' deliciousness. Yes! Surrounded by lovely sweets. UnFortunatoly, the taste did not live up to the sight. The best of the bunch was definitely the cannoli, as the other reviewers mention. Coming in second is the lobster tail (a mix between a puffed pastry and a flaky filo one, filled with cream). Those are the two I might come back to. The others were wholly unimpressive: cream puff, chocolate caramel bun, ricotta lemon cake, blueberry napoleon, layered creme... all of these were bland, not particularly creamy or fluffy or buttery or sweet. Why three stars and not two? Because the gelato here is four or five stars. Holy hell. So creamy and delicious. The tiramasu and creme di limon in particular. Whooo lawdy. For la dolce vita, forget the pastries. Just come in for scoops upon scoops of gelato.

Used to come in here all the time when I had a second job in the area. Unfortunately, I don't get over here as much as I used to, but I still manage to stop in from time to time. Great coffee, and arguably one of the top 5 best cappuccinos I've had, in the city at least. All kinds of cakes, cookies, pastries. A really nice bakery, and they're really friendly. Do yourself a favor and check this place out. You won't be disappointed.

Fortunato Bros. is perfect for a girl like me. Now that I live even closer & have a man with my exact tastes in food, I've been visiting a whole lot more. Eventually I will try everything on offer. Everything! There's this one guy there at night who really churns out an excellent espresso to go with the delicious pastries. The crema on that espresso ripples impressively & the taste is starting to ruin me for regular coffee. I'm not too keen on their gelato, though, but I have a sensitive palate (snob) in the frozen cream department, so don't shoot the messenger. Everyone else seems to adore it... They have a fantastic array of marzipan in all shapes, from fruits & vegetables to sea creatures. Sometimes I just stare for awhile, mesmerized by the tasty, glistening, almond flavored scallops, or mussels & have to pull away. Marzipan shapes will always be bizarre in a good way. My favorite Fortunato Bros. eats are the cannoli, chocolate covered strawberries (ask, they're in the fridge!), their rainbow cookies & the chocolate covered cheesecake. That's the win so far. The vibe is the true essence of the neighborhood. Italian New Yorkers tawkin' and coming in for a sweet taste of home. Pick up some goods & bring them to the hostess on your way to a party, or stop in for dessert after a dinner elsewhere.

My boyfriend and I were in the neighborhood exploring different businesses and such and we came across Fortunato Brothers. I read the great yelp reviews and we decided to give it a try. We ordered one African Cannoli, which was good, but not as good as there original cannoli's that we ordered to go. They had a wide selection of pastries and cakes and good European coffee drinks.

Italian culture is steeped in traditions and we are huge on loyalty. Every time I eat a cream puff somewhere other than fortunatos I feel like I'm having an affair with the secretary. It's never as good as what's at home and always filled with regret. No one...I repeat no one does LULU cream like fortunatos. In the cream puffs, in a lobster tail ( no not the fishy one, but the horn shaped pastry with a flaky shell), or even sandwiched between yellow sponge layers with strawberry in a special order cake, lulu rocks! I have been getting birthday cakes from fortunatos since I'm born...classic strawberry with bananas, fresh whipped cream with lulus on circumference. So as an adult I continue to enjoy what I have been raised on and come to love, not to mention crave at any given moment. Service is hit and miss with the table servers being the sweeter of the bunch. Whenever family comes from out of town, or we take a long trip, we always include fortunatos...those cannolis can make anyone smile.

  • Jeff K.

If I am in the area I must come here for mini pastries. Not the cannoli though. If it is pre-made and sitting there for a few hours I'm not eating it. Call me a cannoli radical if you must. Anyway, I have an eclair for the road with a cup of coffee (I really like the coffee) and some pastry to share with my family. What you can expect is well made standard Italian (Italian American - eclair are French) pastry. They have been here since the 1970s so I imagine they have been doing something right. This area has been part of an Italian enclave I think since the 1800s. I kinda dig watching the native neighborhood fellas taking up real estate at the counter juxtaposed with the hipsters ordering Sfogliatella (just say lobster tail ... they are very good). As for Brooklyn tude reported by other Yelpsters. I'm not sure I'd say they were rude but they certainly don't seem the happiest elves in the Williamsburg Village.

Get an African Cannoli. It is shaped like a cannoli but it is actually rolled chocolate and vanilla cake with a frosting (zebra-like). It disappeared in minutes. Nice flaky Napoleon too. Cute cafe hidden away in a residential area. I am going to make this a regular spot on my Brooklyn visits.

My review mainly has to do with the service, cause I've had pretty good deserts there in the past. BUT, I just came back from there and the people behind the counter basically ignored me. I stood there for 10 minutes waiting to order and while one of them was busy, the other two people behind the counter didn't seem to be. I know they saw me but they didn't even have the courtesy to say "just one minute" or "someone will be right with you" or anything. You get the feeling that you don't belong there. Sorry- I've only lived in the neighborhood for 13 years; I guess that's not enough. You have to be born in the neighborhood or have a relative that works there to be noticed.

Great pastries, great italian vibe and lovely service. The interior makes you feel like you're in a 70's italian coffee joint, complete with some interesting characters, typically all discussing their espresso makers. Definitely the canoli's and sfugliatelle are a hit, great tea and coffee and a wonderful place to grab dessert after a trip to Forcella or one of the local italian joints. Class all the way.

This place brings back such good memories to me, and it's one of the reasons why I'm never gonna leave this borough! Going to Fortunato's for Christmas Eve or Easter, even though the atmosphere is hectic it's way better than the DMV let's put it that way. This place has been around for years, and I really hope it stays. Anyways.....what really is there to say? Great canolis, cakes, pastries, gelato, cappuccino, and all reasonably priced. For whatever reason, I only get the butterscotch gelato because it's so effing good and almost has like a rum-ish taste. Really addicting. Any time of year, Fortunato's will be a place I go.

Reason #50 to Love Brooklyn- Fortunato Brothers 4 non-blondes* with 2 iPhones**, 1 DROID***, 1 ghetto phone****, and a craving for something sweet. How do you create harmony? See ***. Fortunato Brothers was like finding an oasis in the desert. The trees outside were lined with xmas lights and when I saw them and the building I suspected was Fortunato Brothers, my head tilted a little, my eyes got starry and I was in disbelief. It was as if we found magic in Williamsburg. There was so much to choose from at Fortunato Brothers and if you have ever been to Veniero's or Pasticceria Rocco in Manhattan, then you know what you are in for. But Fortunato Brothers was much better because there were no crazy crowds, the price was lower, and it just felt homey. The staff was very friendly and helpful in explaining what everything was. Still in disbelief you made it to this wonderful gem? Take our advice: Pistachio Gelato (not hideously green, wonderfully pistachio w/pistachio bits) Bacio Gelato (will satisfy any chocolate lover and those obsessed w/Baci candy) Cannoli Gelato (pretty good with bits of cannoli shell) Baba w/ custard Black Forrest with raspberry Delicioso (it's filled with mocha mousse. there are miniature versions of the delicioso- try those instead of going large) The gelato was really excellent, smooth, and refreshing. No pastry we tried had us wanting to down gallons of water. Nothing was too sweet at Fortunato Brothers and the 3 scoops of gelato is only $5! What a deal and that is in perfect alignment to how everything else is priced: cheaper than a school bake sale. Fortunato Brothers was so good that I actually went two days in a row. It's nice to have friends with cars. The car ride from Queens was 11 minutes according to Google maps***. Dessert trip #2 consisted of: Mango Gelato (would you believe this was gelato? even better than watermelon gelato!) Banana Gelato (not yellow at all but definitely bananas!) Bacio Gelato (so good it was a repeat) Cheesecake (like a brick. texture is all there but the taste was just ok.) Black Forrest Cake (all chocolate this time. raspberry was better.) Lulu (like a cream puff! what's not to like?) As you can see, I've tried quite a few things from Fortunato Brothers. My goal is to try everything even if that means I have to taste 50 cookies and swallow marzipan. They have all the cafe drinks, tons of seating and zero wait time. It's away from Bedford Ave with less hoopla and more heart. Great place to hang with friends, a date, and/or family. I will be back, especially since Chimu***** is my favorite restaurant and is right down the street! __________ *Not the band, just some food obsessed females from Queens **The iPhones proved useless as the network was so slow it didn't even have a pulse. ***Thank you Fortunata stella d for punching in "dessert" into Google maps and finding Fortunato Brothers!!! ****Perhaps the most useless phone of the bunch but owned by the most useful of the bunch- She got the group together for dinner at Chimu***** which then led to this review. *****Ah, happiness.

My go-to bakery in the Williamsburg/Greenpoint/Bushwick/Ridgewood area. Really good stuff. The coffee is top notch. The pastries, cakes, and ice cream are all very good as well. In my opinion, there really isn't a bad item in the place.

Anything that you get you're going to love and probably won't be able to finish. Great, authentic atmosphere... only downside is that the staff can be a little impatient with you if you aren't certain of what you want or what the name of something is. My suggestion is to hang back from the counter until you are 100% certain of your order to avoid feeling like an idiot. :)

    (4)
  • Peter D.

Lots of people use the word "authentic" when it comes to food. You're not going to hear me saying that.* Since the world essentially revolves around me, it's irrelevant whether or not something is an accurate reproduction of the original. The only thing that matters is whether or not food tastes good, TO ME.** And the gelato at Fortunato Brothers tastes freaking GOOD. And yes, it's true that I've eaten disgusting...honestly revolting amounts of Italian food in my life. But I've never been to Italy, so I suppose that means I have no idea whether or not it's authentic. And quite frankly, I'm not concerned about that.*** But if you're really concerned about authenticity, I CAN report that as I sat in the window eating my gelato (a very pleasant afternoon activity), several people around the shop were conversing in Italian. So take that for what it's worth. I hope you're happy. ________ *Probably because I don't know what I'm talking about. But you knew that. **Keep your opinions to yourself. What do you think this is, Yelp? ***I would like to go to Italy though, so feel free to invite me along.

Legit Italian family bakery. I got two dozen cookies for New Years Eve here after finding the bakery on yelp (of course). The cookies were fresh and there was a great assortment. I'm sad because this place was a good find and my boyfriend didn't know he lived down the street from this place until I found it on yelp. Now we are moving. It's a cute shop with everything you could think of. Gelato, spumoni, ices, pastries, cookies, espresso, struffoli. They even have tables for you to sit and enjoy before taking more to go. Everything looked great. I'll be back there and I'll report back after I've had more than their cookies

I love their canollis - everything else about this place i absolutely hate. The attitude of the people who run the place, the gelato, the dusty knick-nacks, outdated decor (intentional idk but its fugly) and especially the forced waitress service which is really unneccesary and so so much slower than just picking your own food and paying for it on the spot. You cant just pay for your stuff and eat them there, you must be served by a waitress who will take forever to do everything. The waitress is usally pretty nice so of course you tip her even though she wasted your time. Its not her policy anyway. As I was writing this, someone told me of a better cannoli place in sheepshead bay, apparently they dont put the filling in until you order so they dont get soggy at all. Goodbye Fortunato Bros + all your unpleasantness.

Sometimes service is "hit" or "miss." I usually get the "miss." When I come here, I feel like the person who takes the order is trying to rush me out. I mean, this isn't even at a peak time. I ask questions like, "what's in the cake?" I get answers like "chocolate"--one worded answers are not going to sell the product. My patience has run out of this place. The pastries aren't even that great; it has some refrigerator after taste. The best Italian pastry places I find are all in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn and the Bronx. I feel like the Brooklyn pastry stores around here are very limited in this area. Now I have to get pastries in the city.

We come here often - usually in the fall and winter, something very homey about the place. The marzipan is gorgeous and unbelievably detailed, prettiest and most diverse and creative pieces I've ever seen- octopi! cheeseburgers! the apricots would fool anyone -- the taste? Eh, like marzipan. Fresh and lasts a long time. The other pastries, especially the mini versions of standards are delicious. Prices seem average. There's just a special atmosphere to the place, and a lovely orange cat that hangs there, will sit next to you if he's in the mood.

If I ever am sad that I don't live in Europe, I go to Fortunato Brothers and I feel like I'm in the middle of France or Italy. It is truly unique and the old-school vibe just makes it even better. The selection is overwhelming and awesome. The croissants are amazing (coated with a sugar glaze or something) and I can't get enough of the blood orange gelato. You're also going to love the cannolis and the even have mini ones if you think the normal-sized ones are too rich.

I'm gonna say it... This place has the BEST rainbow cookies I have found in any Italian bakery. Layer of marmalade AND raspberry preserves? I'm sold! Prices have gone up considerably but I do treat myself every once in a while to those delicious 7-layer cookies. Great spot for dessert with friends after dinner--try some gelato inside a croissant!

I have been coming here for over twenty years. I moved to Williamsburg when it was still barely heard of, not clogged with hipsters and jacked-up rents. Ah, those were the days. When people asked where I lived...I lied and told them Astoria. Kept Williamsburg and Greenpoint a secret for as long as I could... Anyway, this place was a block from my old apartment. The pastries, cakes, gelatto and espresso drinks are top-shelf--superb. The only complaint I could ever make would be the attitude of some of the staff. There was more than once that they would wait on a local before they would wait on me; I distinctly remember one time when a man stepped directly in front of me when I was ordering an espresso, they served him and he proceded to chat up the person who served them, like I was invisible. Other times the bored, disinterested teenagers who were working there and waiting on me when I ordered pastries would demand to know in advance whether they should make up a large or small box. This confused the heck out of me as I was unsure how many I actually wanted, so I didn't want to commit either way. This seemed to annoy them...I thought, "why not just put them on a tray, and then when I'm done choosing, you can decide how big a box I will need?" That regularly drove me nuts. But aside from that, the sunshiney porch, delicious pastries and excellent espresso make it all worth while.

It's interesting how this place either really great reviews, or really negative ones. I personally have never had any of the employees catch an attitude with me, or day old soggy cannolis. I haven't visited the bakery in a few months because I lived in the Bronx and travelling to any part of Brooklyn is literally out of the way, however I WILL ALWAYS make the trip down there for Fortunato Bros' cannolis and Di Fara's Pizza. Oh and spumoni from Spumoni Garden *drools* Where was I? Ah yes, so during my last visit to Fortunato Bros I picked up a dozen mini cannolis; the girl serving me noticed that the ones they had left were getting soggy so she actually tossed them out and went into the back to grab a tray full of fresh ones!!! As noted by a previous reviewer, the cannolis aren't filled to order but you can always request the ricotta filling and shells separately (they'll give you a tube so you can fill it yourself) this is what my roommate's grandpa does and he's been going there for decades. It didn't bother me that mine were already filled since the girl got fresh ones from the kitchen. On other occasions I've also had table service and the waiter(s) weren't rude or mean...who knows maybe they hired new staff. I'll have to trek down there to see the damage and report back. Until then you can grab your cannoli fix at a nyc street fair this summer =)

My father has been going to Fortunato forever, always brought home st.joseph pastry's and struffoli for x.mas. Over the passing years they have made the struffoli trays smaller increased the price and charge you extra for add nuts. =/ whatsa matta wit you! its still good though. pastry's and espresso A+

3.5 stars Horrible setup and service (2 stars), awesome desserts (4 stars). Here's how it should work here at Fortunato: Go to the counter and look at all your choices and pick one that you want, pay and have the cashier ask you if you want to stay or go and if you want anything else. If you want to eat there they can put your dessert on a plate on a tray and you can go find a seat. Here's how it actually works here at Fortunato: You peer at all your choices and they ask you're staying or going. If you're going they tell you to grab a seat and someone will come by to help you. If you don't like the set up its too bad because they wont let you order and get something up front and then grab a seat. They only have one (possibly 2) servers for about 10 tables (which are all full during busy times) after a while someone comes by and takes your order and if you don't know what the dessert was called that you saw in the display you have to try to describe it to the waitress and then when you both give up you have to get out of your seat, walk with her to the display and point it out (I saw two people have to do this while I was there). We were finished with our dessert and waiting for a waitress and trying to grab even a glimpse of her to flag her down for almost 20minutes before we had to give up and go to the front counter and ask to get our bill so we could pay. The front counter took another 3 minutes or so to flag down our waitress to get the bill. In terms of the food everything is absolutely perfect and you'll be hard pressed to find a better cannoli, neapolitan, or most likely all their other Italian pastries. Expect to pay $3-5 for most of their items making it a bit expensive but normal for New York. They also have gelato and spumoni but I can't vouch for how good they are.

Really good espresso. I don't like the pastries very much so I get a gelato instead with my ristretto (although, I wish the gelato wasn't so sweet). The people who work there are nice and down to earth. Cops and people from the neighborhood go there, mostly italians.

Do not be fooled, I did not venture to Williamsburg. The Fortunato Brothers came to Park Slope! The 5th Ave. Festival to be precise. Seriously, it's pretty bold to have signs displaying 'The Best Cannolis.' The dessert lover in me just couldn't walk on by without trying it. I'm not sure what it costs at their storefront, but it was $3 a piece at the festival. And well....the verdict is...YES, you do have some damn good cannolis! It was definitely fresh. The shell was not hard and thick--like a cookie shell nor was it soggy. Rather, it was almost flaky but not really. It was just absolute deliciousness with the ricotta cream filling. Will have to make a trip soon to try the gelato and other pastries. Be on the lookout for an update, y'all.

I had almost the same exact experience as Michael D. I was biking around the neighborhood because I didn't feel like going home just yet and remembered Fortunatos was right nearby... I saw a cute old couple by the window with their pastries and coffee... and imagined being greeted by a friendly old school Italian behind the counter. No. I was met by a young girl who seemed to roll her eyes at every INSANE request I had like "can I have a cover - I am taking it to go" (for the gelato) and "Can I have a bag?" (you know, to put the stuff in...what in the f?!!) My Cannoli wasn't filled upon order :( I thought maybe after the 89th eye roll - at least I would have this to look forward to. Could very well be because I went close to 9 pm but I was disappointed. The filling, I do have to say was very creamy and good...but the cannoli shell itself - meh. Tasted stale if that's the word to describe it. I had a small one - ate some, gave the rest (and another small one) to my roommate who also said the filling was good. The biggest redeemer was the pistachio gelato - delicious. I do have to note that I rarely ever get sweets, especially ice cream - so this may be why I thought it was so tasty. Roommate (I treat him well) - finished it for me and he also thought it was really good except for some chunks of ice. Of course, I did get a nasty stare when I asked for the cover and she had to take some gelato out of the cup. Oh ok - let me just hold this in my hand as I ride home. She then (with attitude) put the cannoli in a bag and left the cup just out on the counter. No napkins, no little plastic spoon...just all attitude. Kind of depressed me because no matter what I am always super polite to anyone who serves me anything. I do like that there are tables, chairs - so I may be back with friends during the day on a weekend, but geeze - check the attitude ladies!

Cosi delizioso! Sfogliatelle and cannoli are my two favorite types of Italian pastries and Fortunato's really delivers. I love going in there, a. for the food, and b. because it feels like home. The young people that work the counters aren't the friendliest, but the old, gossiping Italian men that hang around are so adorable. It may be the owner, or just someone who lives on the block, I'm not sure, but there's one man who always says hi and asks how I'm doing. There's plenty of seating, so you can sit down and enjoy coffee and pastries with friends. I've heard the gelato is good, so I'd say that's worth trying as well!

Little baby cannoli that were fresh despite the fact that I came in 15 minutes before closing and the best lobster tail I've had, anywhere! They know what they're doing at Fortunato Brothers and I will certainly return for some more goodies!

All I have to say is yummmmyyyyyy! I mean Fortunato always has the best Italian pastries, cakes, pies, candy, coffee, etc....... Whatever you eat there you will not come out dissatisfied. I always get cakes for Birthdays or celebrations, and they are delicious. My favorite's are Tiramisu and strawberry/banana filled sponge cake with a light, not so sweet frosting on top w/ strawberries covering it.... wow! But my all time favorite indulgence is the CANOLI. Being Italian myself, you have to have a good canoli and cappuccino or nothing at all, when you want a craving such as this! It is great! The service and/or servers have a tendency to be a bit, how do you say, "BITCHY", but hey, Forget about it, we are from Brooklyn and Italian, what do you expect! lol :) Nonetheless, you get what you pay for here and a good bakery is hard to find. So what are you waiting for... go get some sweets and coffee. Um, maybe you can you get me some too? :)

On a Saturday around 8pm, they were totally out of cannoli. However, I got a cannoli-looking dessert, which was mostly chocolate and included neon green pistachios on either end. Scrumptious! The people who work here are really nice, and a lot of older Italian men sit and watch the crowd. It seems like an old-school, neighborhood Italian bakery. I can't wait to come back and try more.

Cannoli, espresso, palm cookies, nougat candy oh my. Italian cookies, cream puffs and assorted minis are always a hit. I order a plate to bring as a hostess gift anytime we are invited to dinner parties holiday meals etc. Sometimes the servers are bitchy, but whaddaya want? We're in Brooklyn, you are in a genuine Italian pastry shop ... develop a litlle thicker skin people. Get over yourself. Good service doesn't always equal ass kissing FYI, and I'm in a service based industry. Again, run over there in the morning for a double shot of espresso with a twist and fresh cannolis. They open at 8. I'd be running but my thighs chafe, so I'll meet you there later.

I grew up on cakes & pastries from this bakery. Unfortunately, the last 3 times I have purchased pastry from them, they have been stale. Last night, 2 of the 4 pastries we bought were awful. The cannoli shell was soggy & the cream had that refrigerator taste. The lulu shell was hard as a rock & the filling, once a light delicious pastry cream, has been replaced with a tasteless whipped cream type substance. I understand the cost of ingredients has risen but you can only cut back so much before quality is negatively affected. On top of the stale, tasteless pastry, their attitude stinks. The last time I stopped in to complain about the stale pastry, the clerk actually told me i just didn't know what italian pastry was suppose to taste like! Hello - I am italian & have been eating this stuff before she was born. Quality here has hit the skids & you never know of the pastry will be fresh or not. Not worth it.

This is the real thing. The cannoli is the best I have had in New York. The pastry has just the right amount of crispness and texture, the cream is light and not over sweet, just right! With a coffee you have a little slice of heaven.

ohhhhhhhhh wwwwwoooooowwwwwwwwww!!!! i'm an italian from napoli.... and i discovered this pasticceria about a year after i moved in this neighborhood. WHO WOULDA THOUGHT!? That around the corner from my place, I can just take a 5 minute walk and enter the wonderland of pastries. As soon as you walk around the corner, you can already smell the sweet scent of dessert that reminds me of the streets of naples. MMMMMMMM To start, the baba' either plain or filled with cannoli cream is like an orgasm in your mouth!!! The zuppette and also the cannoli, are just to die for and just so authentic. all the dry pastries are also perfect. the ice cream flavor, I never thought i would taste again since i moved from italy, zuppa inglese, is here. creamy, sweet, and brings back memories of walking along the lungo mare on a sultry summer night. the atmosphere and decor too, from the tiles to tables to napkins really makes it feel like a pastry shop in naples. GOOD JOB!! I'M PROUD OF YOU!!! UNA PASTICCERIA NAPOLETANA AL BACIO!!!!!!!!! E BRAV!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not shabby. Nothing spectacular or remarkable either... Perhaps it is because I am biased towards Little Italy? However, I must say, it's a great place to take a date for a nightcap after dinner. I would definitely go here again.

This place easily receives five stars as it truly is "as good as it gets". The pastries, coffee and other desserts at Fortunato's are nothing short of fantastic. I could be happy for the rest of my life living off their cannoli's and rainbow cookies. Their coffees are made perfectly and are very affordable. Nestled in the middle of WIlliamsburg not only are the pastries amazing but the atmosphere of the place is quintessential Italian. The posse of old men hanging outside arguing in Italian, the waitresses/cashiers in their green aprons and as you walk by you are hit in the face with the sweet smell of sugar. I love love love this place.

    * WARNING* Review base ONLY on their cannoli. My friend and I were walking through the street fair today on the UES when I we came across Fortunato Brothers. They were strictly selling cannolis and I LOVE cannolis! I've tried many so called Italian pastry shops around the city and a few in Brooklyn, but this is one of the few places that make a mean cannoli with real ricotta filled filling! If you've never eaten a cannoli before, DO NOT eat the chocolate/vanilla pudding cannoli filling! It does not taste the same as the ricotta filled cannoli.

I never thought I'd miss a cannoli of all things but damn they make some fine pastries at Fortunato's. I used to love running in there for some cookies or pastires and either take them into work or try to resist and take them home - either way it was a yummy experience.

The rainbow cookies here are delicious. Slightly pricey for $14/pound. Service behind the counter leaves a lot to be desired - especially since the girl ringing up our 1lb of rainbow cookies still decided to charge us the .049lb that went over. Seriously?

Less is more. It's hard to find well-proportioned Italian desserts in NY that aren't exceedingly sweet or over-stuffed. I've been coming here for close to 20 years and the minis at Fortunato's are made just right. I would give 5-stars if it weren't for the fact that (1) quality consistency is not what it used to be with increasing "bad days", and (2) the hand-scribbled ordering system stinks, which often results in pickup delays and mistakes. Make sure you have your order repeated back to you and call ahead of your scheduled pickup to make sure it's in the works. -- CASH ONLY, ATM OUTSIDE

My boyfriend's birthday was today so after reading the reviews here on yelp i snuck over early in the morning to pick up a birthday cake. It being the day-of, i was relieved to see some cakes in the window frosted in the way that would suggest their sole purpose of being is birthdays. The woman at the counter who helped me was not particularly friendly, but neither was she mean, she just did not smile, was not excited to see me, seemed verymuch bored while helping me, and was a little brusque. However, i paid it no mind. She wrote "Happy Birthday ALec" on the cake (yes, a capital "L", i don't know why and i don't give a damn but i did find it curious) and i also picked up a giant palmier ("elephant ear") and five pignola cookies. The pignolas were for me. They were heavenly soft and chewy and made me wish i had bought more samples of the cookies- they all looked so good! My boyfriend liked his palmier, i didn't try it but it looked (and sounded) airy and crisp as it should be. We both enjoyed the cake. I was a little apprehensive because i've never bought a birthday cake for anyone before (i've always made them myself) and my boyfriend can be super picky. But it was a win! The one i picked out was layers of yellow sponge cake soaked in sugar syrup with one layer of vanilla pastry cream and one layer of chocolate cream (?) with a whipped cream frosting. The syrup kept it nice and moist, although i think it should be noted that the syrup soaked down through the layers so that while the top layers were perfect the bottom layer of cake was utterly saturated with the syrup. Utterly. Drenched. We didn't mind, but it might bug you. I look forward to coming back and sampling more cookies! I also think i saw lobster tails in the case too, YUMMY....

I maintain my 4-star rating for their fresh, delicious cannoli...but I've frequented here 3 times since my first visit, and discovered a terrible truth. The sad fact of the matter is that the cannoli are only fresh and delicious if you come here first thing in the morning. Because they don't fill them to order. They just sit there all day getting soggy. Lame! This is cannoli 101!

Yuck. I don't get the raves about this place. It's seriously gross. I don't care if it's been in the neighborhood for a gazillion years. The people are mean who work there and it's disgusting (the sweets and the dirty store). Always been that way. Go to Settapani. Much better pastry, cookies and breads.

The best pastry I have had. I'm a sucker for pastry cream and I have tasted none better than what Fortunato Bros whips up. Love the lobster tails, swans, eclairs and of course the canoli. Make sure you get them fresh so they aren't soggy. They make some outstanding cakes as well and the espresso and cappuccino are always great. One draw back is the servers can be kind of assholes and bitches but whatever, I'm not here for them, just give them the same attitude they give you and you may gain a little respect.

I stumbled upon this place while showing apartments nearby. I had arrived innthe area early and had some time to kill, plus my phone battery was running low. I got an espresso and cheesecake which were both outstanding. Plus they charged my phone. The biggest thrill of all was the old men reading italian newspapers and gently ribbing each other. I felt like I had just pulled up on my Vespa to a small cafe somewhere on the outskirts of Rome. You know the feeling you get when traveling and you're not really looking for anything but you stumble upon one of the most memorable food experiences of your trip? The place that isn't in the guidebook where Boone speaks English and you are happy for it? Noone is writing postcards and there is not a guidebook in sight? Where the food is special and you can feel the love that went into preparing it? This is that place. Shhhh. Only tell enough people to keep it alive. And bring your very special friends who have earned the right to experience the real deal. I can't stop thinking about this place and it's dreamy little cheesecake served in the top of a takeout cup lid. Perfect.

What a disappointment! WAY over priced for what? Tons of Super refined white sugar, super refined White flour and hormone laden milk used in their creamy fillings. The clincher was when we ordered a Fruit Tart for a Birthday Party on Halloween in the early afternoon and picked it up later to present it my in laws after dinner. It was DISGUSTING!! The fruit was not ripe, tasted bitter and the grapes were placed on the tart still on the vine, so the vine took up most of the space, the presentation was ugly and the Tart was a joke for $35!!! Can you believe that? Please, anyone who praises this place is either a friend of the family or has NO idea what good Italian pastry is!!! Oh and what happened to Italians working in an Italian Pastry shop??? Oh yea, THAT's one of the reasons the place is falling apart, generally speaking, Italians care to keep their business reputation up to par, other cultures taking over the business don't give a crap, as far as I can tell.

I like the pinoli cookies, I like the gelato...I like the set up. But, I will say there are alot of nasty young girls who work there...They act as if you are bothering them, when you are buying pastries....I Am going to guess, that the couple of girls that, are nice that work here, are related to the owners... I gotta say that the cappuccino barista is a very sweet, he must have been working there at least 4 years.... I recommend you try the pistachio gelato...It is the best, I've ever had...But it sells out quickly. Banana is also a good one...

Out toward eastern Williamsburg, well removed from Bedford Avenue and its stylish tributaries the grainy brick facades of urban renaissance give way and become neighborhoods homes sheathed in curious and unknown building materials whose popular use has disappeared like recipes for your grandmothers favorite jam or your neighbor's barbecue short ribs. Life is slightly different in this clime; perhaps it is the whistle of tinny air against aluminum siding; better yet, the stench of a men and women one generation closer to labor. Out by the Lorimer stop, the sunlight there radiates in traditional rays rather than the gingham, checked and plaid aurae just west. But it is just as hot, and on a summer day nothing with allay our special humidity better than a couple scoops of gelato. Fortunato Brothers' ineluctable version of this Italian treat comes in myriad flavors that would have an entire volume of light, summer poetry. But there is little else hear that does not suffer the wildly bearable lightness of being. At first glance the black, polished table and thin veneer of marble conjures up conversations of painting fences and wet work. However, the staff, between chewing and snapping their gum, is friendly and helpful and their knowledge of flavors, cookies and biscuits is encyclopedic if not maniacal. The patrons are benevolent paisonos and, chums, pals, gals and kiddies that will invariably being doing the same things in heaven well before me. Without expiring the fungibility of a $5 note, my sister (who is quickly becoming indispensable for she doubles the amount of dishes I can taste--and lets me live in her apartment as the familial version of a squatter) and I tried three gelatos that represented a greatest hits. It should be noted there is some debate about whether or not the Fortunato clan is still making their own gelatos, but I was too shy and too pleased in any event, to enquire.) First, a scoop of Spagnolia was creamy and speckled with deep, crimson cherries. Their fruit was preserved but their texture was not frozen. On its own merits, Fortunato Brothers is a nice, Sunday treat. Just ordering Spagnolia, which I presume means "Spanish" made me feel like Will Ferrel in Old School: "hey, Spanish!" and that is good too. Mango was a tangy treat whose color could be found on any episode of Saved By The Bell. Sometimes fruity gelato can go awry. It is easily awash in dull sweetness or a crush of tart that summons the worst Jim Carey impersonations. Matched with the creamy, delectable pistachio, whose description concludes this piece, this fruity desert followed a simple plan for transmutation of the fruit. The pistachio gelato was heavenly. Each mouthful tasted as though I had run my tongue across the top of all appropriate baklava between Constantinople and Yerevan. The intensity of pistachio flavor was matched by its deep olive hue. Dressed in this gelato, John Rambo could never have found me in any unfinished war. And that is all I have to say about that.

I wish I could give this place 10 stars. This is my absolute favourite Italian bakery - and I grew up in an Italian-American town. My Italian grandma ADORES this place! The pastries are phenomenal. I highly recommend the cannolis (best cannolis I've ever had, and I've spent quite some time in Italy) and the "lobster tail." The pastries are SO delicious - I am currently at work and fantasizing about their pastries. All the Italian pastries I grew up on I can get here. I am a runner, and actually have a run I call "Fortunato Brothers Run" where I run past the bakery in the early mornings and just inhale - it smells SO good!

WOW fab cannolis and gelatos. We had both the pistachio and the hazelnut, you can tell the nuts are both salted and roasted, both of which I am a big fan. The ice cappuccino also delicious. I do with the whip cream was a bit sweeter though, I think they are just whipping some heavy cream and calling it a day.

What to say. I'm kind of biased because as far back as I could remember my Dad has been taking me there either when we lived in Brooklyn or were just visiting my Grandma. I had the opportunity to go back there again last week and grab a delicious box of canoli's :) Talk about memories! The service is friendly and prices are reasonable. Definitely stop in here to grab treats if you're headed someplace for dinner or a potluck, everyone there will appreciate it.

I had the good fortune of trying one of the Fortunato Bros cannolis during the July 4th Water Street Festival and although it was very tasty, I really didn't have anything to compare it to at the moment. The last time I had a true cannoli was a very long time ago, so I give it 4 stars for what I thought at the moment. Probably the fact that they cannolis had been sitting out affected the freshness, but I'm sure they're usually amazing! Oh, a little pricey for 1, I think it was $3?

I got some nasty cream puff-like pastries here yesterday. The cake was dry and stale. The shell frosting (mimicking chocolate) tasted of pure cloying corn syrup and clogging hydrogenated fat. The mousse filling was okay but not good and certainly not good enough to make up for the other insults. Also tried a pistachio cookie, which was tasty but kind of lame - if you know what I mean. Coffee was very hot but watery. No thank you.

I had no idea if there was waiter/waitress service so I asked someone behind the counter. He said to sit down anywhere and someone will come help you. Grabbed a seat and waited. Nothing. So I went up to the front and asked if I could get a menu and the RUDE guy yelled "WHAT?" and stared at me with a rude gaze, as if I had a problem, in a tone like he wanted to start a fight. We had a slight altercation and my friend and I left without tasting their food which is a disappointment because this place is so highly rated. All I did taste was a sour moment with an employee and I will not settle for that. HORRIBLE.

Four stars rounded up from 3.5. The rating is based solely on the (small) cannoli and the Napoleon. The Napoleon rated a 2.5-3. The flavor was pretty good, but I was disappointed that the pastry wasn't light and flakey. The cannoli was a solid 4. I'm glad the girl who helped us talked us into getting a few. The shell was fresh and crispy. The cream was perfectly sweet. I wouldn't have minded a few more chocolate chips, though. I may have to go back and grab some for the plane ride home.

Manhattan Avenue it still an enclave of Italian Americana. The encroachment of hipster goofballs has not completely saturated this neighborhood. Fortunato Brothers is a homage to a different time when Brooklyn was like its own country. I only wish that Fortunato Brothers lived up to my romanticization of it. I want to walk in and be greeted by Italians. Instead I'm barely greeted by some hood rat girl from the nearby projects who works behind the counter. I want to eat delicious Italian pastries. Instead I eat soggy Sfogiatella that has been in the refrigerator too long. I want to have smooth delicious gelato. Instead I'm fed some farce that their distributor has perpetrated on the public. I want the guy at the table next to me to get whacked by a big guy in a wool suit and felt fedora for skimming from his bosses take. Okay, I could live without the mob hit if the pastries were good. ______

Cookies A+ Cheese cake A++++ Cannolis A++++++++++ Being my local bakery, I often find myself walking past to sneak a whiff or a glimpse of all the goodies. My folks back home start reminding me weeks in advanced of holidays to remind me to stop in and get the desserts. Occasionally, I'll surprise them in between holidays with a cheesecake or a box of cookies. My mother knows to expect cannolis by now, though. That is, if I don't get stuck in traffic heading back home and end up polishing off the box. No, I wouldn't do that. Juniors, step aside. Fortunato Brothers know how to do it better!

Love this place. I had 2 cannolis, 1 chocolate covered strawberry, and 2 scoops of gelato (fragole e frutta di bosco - umm!) and it cost me less than $9. In Midtown, I'v paid more than that for only 2 cannolis that were half as good. Everything I had from Fortunato Brothers was amazing. There were many people speaking Italian there, which was great. Very authentic and delicious!! Go here asap!

The cookies and other treats are great, and the coffee is good, even if it always arrives on the table at about 400 degrees. My wife and I take our daughter here very often and we're always treated like regulars-- in the way that neighborhood places should treat neighborhood folk. We're lucky to still have places like Fortunato Brothers around!

The deliciousness is unchanged but I just can't get over how bad the service is. And I mostly find bad service amusing. Seriously, just lose the 'tude.

This place is totally awesome. I love love LOVE cannolis, and Fortunato Brothers do them right. They have all the same type of pastries and cookies that the Italian bakery had when I was growing up. It's a great place to get no-frills but delicious sweets and treats.

I've never smelled anything as delicious as the 2 block radius surrounding Fortunato Brothers. I'm waiting for a friend to devour these pastries with me, and I'm eyeing that box like an animal. Next time I'ma violate the hell out of some granitas and honey glazed croissants.

The best coffee in all 5 boroughs. I moved away, but all I ever talk about is Fortunato Bros. I miss them. I miss the frozen granitas I would buy tons of, and they would look at me like I was nuts (that shit is strong, yo) and put in my freezer and eat like ice cream. Yummmm... Honey glazed croissants and hazelnut gelato. I visited all the damn time. And if you have a party to go to, get the cake or pastries here, the guests will thank you.

Stopped in here for a cappuccino and a pastry on a recent visit to a friend. Now, I love my coffee but I am also currently pregnant and so I am limited to one (yes, I am allowed one!) caffeinated beverage per day. This is a major daily commitment for me and I make my choices judiciously. On that day, I chose Fortunato Brothers and, thankfully, I wasn't disappointed. Great temperature, foam, taste. I was actually appreciative when the girl behind the counter told me they don't have skim milk; what was I thinking anyway? The eclair I had was good, not the best I've had but certainly not the worst. The atmosphere is genuine, no frills, and definitely not hipster, which was a very welcome change. The windows allow for great people watching. Unfortunately, like many places, they seem to be cash only. I did think that some of their menu items were over-priced, but that could just be me noting being from the NYC area.

Great pastries. Too bad the last THREE cakes purchased from here had the WRONG name written in it. Love Mommy & DANNY instead of Daddy was the last cake!
