They had good sandwiches. The environment was cool and the food good. Look outside and see New York while you eat. There are a number of different sauces to make a special sandwich. Great place to eat. Clean and cheap.

I loved the pulled chicken with hot sauce, bleu cheese sauce, and chopped celery. Like a delicious hot wing without the hassle! The roll was fantastic (though I ate it open-faced on just the bottom of the roll) - kind of a crunchy top and a super soft rest of the roll. I expected the brisket with horseradish and onion to be my favorite, but it was lacking something. The meat wasn't quite seasoned right, and the horseradish sauce had no kick. One pro is that the place has all the sauces and meats pre-made, so the sandwich assembly is super fast; I was eating my two different sandwiches within 2 minutes of ordering. I do wish the meat would be hotter, though ... it was "very warm" rather than "hot." For lunch, one half-sandwich would be plenty (and a good deal at $4.75 or $5.25). For dinner, I had two different half-sandwiches (both eaten with half the roll) and I was stuffed. I think with these rich sandwiches that a whole sandwich of any one type would just be too intense, so I recommend the half-sandwiches. The side of pickles was tasty, and I liked having a crunchy/acidic bite of pickle in between meaty/savory bites of sandwich. However, at $2 for a small container of generic sandwich pickles, I did feel like it was a rip-off. The restaurant is not somewhere I'd want to dine-in if I lived nearby, and every other customer who I saw there was getting their food to-go. The place was very small - just too tables - and air conditioned to the point of me shivering in my wool sweater on a hot summer day.

Hi, The food was awesome! I had the Whole Sandwich with Short Rib & Brisket, Horseradish Creme & Onion Confit. The delivery was quick and when the delivery guy couldn't find my place he called for directions. The sandwich was so good I wished it was a bit bigger. Great addition to Murray Hill! I'll be ordering from them again tomorrow.

Good food, good combinations, but could be about $1 cheaper per sandwich. Definitely give it a try if you are in the area.

Really great sandwiches! I love that you create the sandwich yourself, so that you know you are getting exactly what you want and you can get a different combination every time! I got the pulled chicken with roasted kale, onion confit, and black cherry mustard (amazing sauce) and the combination of all the flavors was great. My sister got the pulled chicken with dragon sauce and fresh scallions & chives, and really liked it but found the dragon sauce a bit too spicy for her. The sandwiches here are really creative and unique, and all the ingredients are fresh and high quality. I am so happy that it opened up close to my apartment, and I will definitely be back to try out different combinations (the short rib & brisket is next on my list!)

I found this place by luck since there was a parking space in front of it. Lucky me!! Their braised meat sandwiches are a very welcome variation. I had the braised lamb w dragon sauce and slaw - delicious! The half-size was fine for me. Only about 8 seats in the place so it's not a destination resort.

Just had my first sandwich from Mayhem & Stout and was blown away by the tenderness and flavor of the meat. The spicy slaw is an excellent side. Only complaint is I wish the sandwiches were a bit larger. I ordered a full sandwich and was not quite full. Other than that this place is a great addition to Murray Hill and I will be back for a lot more!

Had a pork shoulder sandwich there. Tasted great, love the dragon sauce and the spicy slaw !

A delicious, quick and easy sandwich spot! The guys behind the counter were very friendly and helpful, and the food came out fast. We got two of the "popular combinations" - the braised pork shoulder with dragon sauce and spicy slaw, and the short rib & brisket with blueberry sriracha and pickled onion. Both were juicy, flavorful and memorable. Could not recommend them enough, but they do have a bit of heat so you have to like spicy! I would definitely go back, and am eager to try other menu items (they recently added mac n' cheese...).

Fabulous sandwich shop. High quality meats and bread with great combinations. The buns are truly fantastic. I have tried several of their sandwiches and I have yet to have one that I didn't love. Service is friendly and fast. Highly recommended if you want a unique sandwich.

    bread--boring. Chicken--dry. Price--way too high.

I got the Half Sandwich with Braised Lamb Shoulder, Red Harissa, Tahini Aioli & Tzatziki. The order was delivered pretty quickly and the sandwich was wrapped very well. I was definitely worried about ordering a sandwich like this for delivery because the odds of it getting soggy before it got to me were pretty high...so I don't know if I just got lucky and was at the top of the delivery queue or what, but it was piping hot and not soggy at all and the bun was fantastic. The sandwich was a little smaller than I expected, but it was still a good size. The texture of the lamb itself was excellent, but it was a little underseasoned. The harissa has quite a kick, which was much appreciated. The tzaziki was kind of bland and the cucumbers pieces in it were a little too big so that they didn't stay in the sandwich, and I did not taste the tahini aoli at all. One thing that really bothered me was that the sauce distribution was very haphazard. The first few bites were saucy and terrific and then there was less and less and the second half was barely sauced at all so it was not as exciting. I also got the "side" of house pickled vegetables. They were nothing to write home about, and the portion was super small. I ordered chips with the intention of putting them on my sandwich but they sent me BBQ instead of what I ordered, which was the Kettle. I tried them on the sandwich anyway and was not a fan. This place just opened so I'm sure they are still working out the kinks, and I look forward to trying them again and upgrading my review.

Hidden gem in midtown and well worth the trek to 2nd ave. Everything is great here.

I like this place. It opened right around the corner from our apartment and is one of the better restaurants on the block. Order and eat in or take out. The staff there is friendly and the meat is absolutely mouth watering. They're doing a good thing especially since I try to be a healthy eater so I go without the sauce which is very tasty and juicy in its natural flavors. My other half on the other hand loves the chipotle sauce with the brisket sandwich. I also love the pickled sides.

  • Gonzo T.

Full orders are a decent size and the sandwiches are tasty. Good way to mix it up from your normal deli sandwiches. Only downside is you just get a sandwich, if they gave you something on the side it would of made me more satisfied. All in all worth a try.

  • Adriana H.

Not worth the walk. I ordered the pulled chicken, with the tahini aioli, and roasted kale. The chicken was very moist, but there was no flavor! If I find myself in that area again, I would try something else.... Maybe short ribs... if that one fails me too, then that's it for me. There are much better sandwich options in the neighborhood.

  • Bridget M.

WOW! This place makes a tasty sandwich! I went for lunch and ordered to go. I knew I wanted the braised short rib & brisket with pickled onion but was torn between the dragon sauce and the blueberry sriracha. The staff was super helpful - first let me try both sauces, and when I still couldn't decide between the two, suggested I get both on the side. I really liked the blueberry sriracha with the brisket. Now I can't wait to go back and try another sandwich!

  • Thomas N.

Had high hopes for a good sandwich but was disappointed. The pork was severely over braised to the point of being mush. The spicy slaw was one note and lacking salt. Just and overall lack of flavor. And at 9 bucks not a very good deal.

    (2)
  • Jordan D.

Braised Short Rib had great flavor but the sandwich was served rather luke warm/cold. Pulled Lamb Shoulder was salty and Tahini Sauce was overpowering. Not bad but have definitely had better sandwiches in the area.

So happy to finally have a delicious sandwich spot in the area. The food was excellent and left me completely satisfied. The staff was personable and engaging as well. Definitely come and try everything.

This is a great addition to the old Zaitzeff space! I hope they do well and stay. My husband loves it.

Tried this place out for lunch today and it was great! With all the different meat, sauce, and add on options, the combinations seem endless. I had the short rib half sandwich with black cherry mustard and potato chips and enjoyed every bite. The half sandwich filled me up, and I found the prices very reasonable, even cheap, for the quality of the sandwich. Definitely would go back!

  • Bosco V.

Saw this place on Caviar and from the pictures, I had to give it a try. And I'm so glad I did. The pulled pork, blueberry sriracha, and spicy slaw went together perfectly. I've only scratched the surface and this place is definitely going to become my go-to lunch break joint. A decent price for a decently sized sandwich that beats the factory style of sandwiches from Subway.

Tried the Mayhem and Stout in the new Urban Space. Item: Brasied Short Rib / Rice Bowl Cost: $13 Good: Pickled Carrots and Fresh Peppers and Braised Pulled Shortrib Bad: Rice is undercooked...inedible I will probably not order this again.

Ended up having to stay late in the office tonight and desperately needed a pick-me-up dinner. So after browsing on Seamless for a nice comforting dinner, I chose Mayhem and Stout. It's estimated delivery time was 15-30 minutes which is a must when I order (who wants to sit around for an hour waiting for food?). Place the order for a full pulled pork sandwich with onion confit and blueberry sriracha and some sides. After an hour of waiting (What? Not15-30 minutes?!), I decide to call the restaurant and ask for the status of my delivery. I was told that the delivery guy came but couldn't reach me because I left no number. Um.. What? I placed my order directly on Seamless but they inserted an extra 1 in front of the 1212 area code, so it read 11212-. So the number was here but in a non traditional format. I re-give the person my number and wait for him to contact the delivery guy and call me back. Aside from the fact that I think it's silly he couldn't find the number, if the guy comes back from his delivery and still has the order, shouldn't you as the restaurant) reach out to the customer (or Seamless) to let them know what happened? What would've happened if I didn't call? After another wait, I get an angry call from the delivery guy (who clearly did not speak English fluently) saying that I put the number wrong. I go down to pick it up and he glares at me without saying anything. I approach him and asked him if he was from Mayhem and Stout and he immediately started blaming me about the number. Without knowing what else to say, I said 'Okay' and took my food. As I leave, I hear him muttering angrily and shooting me dirty looks as I walk away. The food was okay, big hearty portion. Pulled pork was juicy and blueberry sriracha sauce was okay (didn't really taste like blueberry at all, it was like a dark blue sweeter version of sriracha). Sides were a miss for me (pickled veggies and spicy slaw). TLDR: food was okay but my overall negative experience was enough to make me not order from here again. What if I get the same angry delivery guy again?

When I placed my order for lunch, the estimated delivery time was 40-60 minutes, but I think it arrived in closer to 20! In my opinion, that's the best way to make a good first impression on a hangry customer. Aside from the prompt delivery, the food itself exceeded my expectations. I ordered the signature pork and kale sandwich, which was a nice size for the price ($9.75). I ate half of it for a late lunch and the other half for dinner. I loved the use of kale to offset the heaviness of the meat, and the black cherry mustard had a delicious tang and really tied it all together. I also ordered a salad, which I'm usually hesitant to do when a sandwich shop is involved. But sometimes you just don't want bread, y'know? Often, the "salads" are a couple of lettuce leaves and a few pieces of meat. But this salad came in a large container with a nice assortment of veggies and braised chicken. I'll have to check out the storefront, which seems to have a few more items than the takeout menu. As a chocoholic, it'd be great to see a few cookies available to satisfy my afternoon sweet tooth. But overall, I'm glad I came across this place! Thank you Mayhem + Stout for a tasty lunch at a great value!

Yet another trip to eat in my favorite bbq sandwich joint, this time I got my usual Dragon Sauce Pulled Pork half sandwich and decided to get experimental and also order the buffalo chicken mac and cheese. I got home and sunk my fork deep into the succulent dish and put the bite in my mouth and my eyes rolled back in my head and I saw God. I've never actually been a mac and cheese fan -tried it here and there trying to get what all the fuss was about, but THIS has made me a mac and cheese believer. Words cannot do justice. And the sandwich was as fabulous as ever too. I feel good about life when I eat here.

This place catered lunch at our office today-- salad greens, shredded chicken, shredded beef, mac and cheese, and brown rice, cucumber salad and pickled carrots. It's really hard to eat clean from catered food, (at least based on what my office typically has catered,) so I was grateful to be able to put together something high protein, with lots of veggies, and not a ton of white carbs. It was sort of bland, but maybe there were sauces that just didn't make it? Either way, four stars for high-quality, healthy, simple food.

  • Joe B.

Absolutely loved it from the sandwich I had with the braised short ribs & brisket with horseradish and onion confit. I ended up going back to try one of the brown rice bowls and was more than satisfied. I had the short rib and brisket and it comes with pickled carrots and cucumber salad. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who likes something different and doesn't want the same old stuff to eat. By the way the mac & cheese is awesome. P.S. get the Dragon Sauce.

Awesome sandwiches! I tried the bahn mi special with pulled pork ($9.25) and it was excellent. The flavor was amazing and it was topped with pickled vegetables, crispy shallots, and a spicy aioli. The bread was good also. The pulled pork was a little on the dry side, but the flavor was there. Great place for lunch close to NYU hospital.

Came in on a slow Saturday and wasn't really expecting much. But, damn do these guys know what they are doing. I went with their recommend. Pork and slaw. Not terribly cheap but I haven't had anything like this in quite some time.

I like the originality of this menu and that you can pick v your own sandwich ingredients. I just love the Buffalo Chicken Mac'nCheese and the lamb salad is great. The sandwiches are good though can be dry without sauce. They also keep limited daily stock so some things can run out by dinnertime. The place itself is tiny and better for takeout.

MEATERY! their menu is based around pork, short rib&brisket, chicken, & lamb.. which you can put into a sandwich, salad, or rice bowl! i opted for the half sandwich which is served on a roll rather than the full size sandwich which is served on a hero... you can CUSTOMIZE your sandwich w/ add-ons and sauces but i went with the recommended combos! --short rib & brisket w/ onion confit and horseradish creme: TASTY short rib & brisket! a bit overloaded with creme but not bad! --short rib & brisket w/ blueberry sriracha and pickled onions: wasn't really able to taste the blueberry sriracha but again short rib & brisket was good! --basic side salad: def packs a lot of veggies for just $3.50!! interesting mix of coleslaw & pickled veggies over mixed greens --Mac n cheese: nothin to write home about SELF SERVE water at the front there are only 2 tables & counter standing room if you're lucky! NOTE: i've been here twice and both times they didn't have lamb available.. maybe its only available later in the day because it takes longer to cook?... i'll have to come back Thanks to the PayPal app for the freebie!

this place was just OK. I came here with friends for dinner. First off, this place is tiiiiny and with no AC. As someone who loves heat, it was even too much for me. I must admit I was intrigued by this place - with sauces like blueberry sriracha and blue cheese aioli I was curious to see how these sandwiches would turn out. Unfortunately not so well - I got the "popular" sandwich which consisted of: braised pulled chicken, buffalo vin, blue cheese aioli and i subbed the pickled onions for roasted kale. The chicken was good - very tasty...but that's about it. They were STINGY with the sauces, I barely tasted it on the sandwich and the "roasted" kale? try "regular" kale. there wasn't any krispiness or anything to that. I also got the short-rib mac & cheese...which was aiiight but not overly memorable. The people there were friendly, but they messed up on 2 of the 5 orders we put in - and there wasn't anyone else there. Overall, I think there are better places worth schlepping to in that area...

I really enjoy all the sandwiches they make, especially the Lamb. They also have a wonderful staff. M&S imports their lamb from New Zealand. They do all their braising in-house and the street always smells of a very sweet alluring aroma. They have homemade lemonade too that tastes delicious. Again, they have an extremely accommodating staff & the food is consistently delicious. Go here for lunch or if you're in the hood for a quick delicious bite.

Used $10 credit via PayPal (expired 3/15, but now a renewed offer!) for a free dinner. I took my order to go around 8something pm. I ordered a whole size ($9) short rib and brisket sandwich with blueberry sriracha sauce and asian slaw topping. I actually loved the blueberry sriracha... just wish there was more! Next time, I'll have to remember to get some on the side - that stuff is unique and delicious. The bread, however, was quite stale and was not soft. It also tasted a little like cardboard.... definitely not the best bread or maybe it was cause it was late in the day. The brisket was flavorful, but a tad too salty for my taste buds. Asian slaw was a good topping addition to the brisket along with the blueberry sriracha. Will be back with my new $10 credit :)

I love the options for food there. I recently ordered online and I had a Special request stating no onions no pickles. When I received the order there were onions and pickles. What was great is that I called up and the girl I spoke with walked it over to me right away.. Now I consider that great service. I wish I got her name and I appreciate her effort.. She really turned my experience around !! Thank you

  • Kris L.

I order here a lot. The sandwiches are great! I usually order the sauces on the side to prevent them from being too soggy. The chicken rice bowls are my favorite! The meats are moist, the pickled vegetables are tasty and the bread is always soft.

Meats on meats everywhere! Looking for a quality sandwich in the area? Here's your place. Expensive normally? Hell yea, without a doubt. But thanks to a PayPal deal I got a free BRAISED PORK shoulder sandwich with DRAGON sauce and roasted kale. Between the tender pork shoulder and unique tasting Asian BBQ/Dragon sauce, I just got lost in the sandwich. I don't even like green veggies and, but somehow the roasted kale was a perfect complement too. Half and Full size sandwiches are available. The space is small so there's limited seating room. I brought the sandwich home for a 30 min commute and it still tasted good, so maybe that says something if you're willing to pay for it normally out of pocket (about $8-10 full size).

This review is only based on their brownie. Several people on yelp claimed it was really good and their sign on the door made very BOLD claims too. So I was powerless not to walk in and order one. Verdict: It was decent I guess, too expensive, and really nothing special. I much prefer the Pret brownie. I still would go back to try other other stuff on the menu.

I get delivery from here all the time. My husband and I share one sandwich (often the pork with black cherry mustard and kale) and one salad (usually the Mayhem salad with pulled chicken). The salad is so far from boring - I love all the different veggies and slaws. Great crowd pleaser since people can order healthy or not.

I can almost eat here every day. I've tried just about everything on the menu and I've always ALWAYS absolutely loved it. Every time one of my non-city friends comes in to visit, we eat here and they love it too. The sandwiches are amazing. The salads are good if you're on a diet, but nothing beats barbequed meat on bread. I will say that the rice bowls are surprisingly good as well. The staff is awesome too!!

On my way to aycd brunch with my bestie, decided to pick up a sandwich to bring home to fiance (not the greatest idea since I didn't get home until 5 hrs later). I was probably their first customer of the day since the guy behind the counter was still setting up. Took a quick look at the menu and decided to go with one of their popular combos - beef brisket with blue sriracha saue and grilled onion. I was surprised by how fast the service was. In fact, the making of the sandwich reminded me a lot of those hot dog stands - everything was already made - just fork the meat into the bun then add toppings. In and out of the store within 5 mins. Didn't get a taste of the sandwich until 5 hrs later however. The bread was a bit soggy of course but the brisket was still very flavorful. Reminded me a lot of beef jerky actually. Couldn't really taste the blueberry in the blueberry sriracha. Overall, nothing particularly amazing about this sandwich (it was good but not WOW). I will definitely try the rest of the menu + eat it while it's hot next time to give a more accurate review! They are currently promoting their business through paypal - free $10 dollar credit which allows you to get a whole sandwich of every meat (except for lamb). Def worth checking out!

Holy cow (and chicken, and pig). This place is amazing. Delicious sandwiches, the meat absolutely bursting with flavor. Decent price for the area and the sandwiches aren't tiny like a few other places serving similar fare. I had the pulled chicken Bahn Mi and it was amazing to the last bite. Will be back!

  • Scott S.

I have been in love with their sandwiches and sauces for a long time. Recently I ordered via Seamless their delcious rice bowls. Yum. There are two things that make Mayhem & Stout awesome the quality of the meat and the unique sauces. Where else can you get beef short ribs slow cooked to perfection and in a blueberry siracha sauce to boot. The rice bowls are served over brown rice with cut up veggies that complement the meat nicely. Reasonably priced and very filling. The pork is delicious and so are the short ribs!

  • Augusto M.

Loved this place. Kinda hate the name. When I first read about the name I thought naturally it was a bar that served good sandwiches. 1 out of 2 isn't bad. No beer but great sandwiches. Pulled pork and brisket are always safe bets, but even the pulled chicken was great. And they have roasted Kale. I mean now that it has Kale everyone will be flocking here soon. And they also have a blueberry Sriracha sauce. So jump on the bandwagon soon before its inundated with Kale and Sriracha junkies.

  • Zachary F.

Got the pulled chicken with buffalo wing sauce etc as they recommended - disappointing. Chicken was watery and flavorless, basically I just ate a lot of white bread. I appreciate that you can order a half sandwich and the various pickled toppings are good.

  • James C.

Overall the food we had was disappointing. Good ingredients, and their menu offerings sound delicious and unique. Execution and flavors are just subpar. Also beware that their "half" sandwich is more like slider on a dinner roll. Get a full sandwich if you are eating here. I had the Braised pork sandwich: the meat was tender and juicy but just too salty. Aside from the salt, this really lacked any distinct flavor despite their dragon sauce and slaw. Friend got the Short-rib sandwich as a half: it came as a soupy mess. Again, the meat was juicy and tender bit very salty. The short-rib Mac n cheese was marred by the same problem: salty meat.

Ordered the Dragon with pulled pork at Madison Square Eats, part of Urban Space. Let's start with the pork. The meat was super juicy and pulled right apart, like it should (and that's important to a southerner). The Asian slaw added a fantastic crunch to the soft bread and meat. Whatever "dragon sauce" is... I want it on everything I eat. Overall, I could eat that sandwich every day for the rest of my life and be happy. Thanks Mayhem and Stout!!!

Finally, a storefront for these amazing sandwiches. Instead of hunting around food fests and outdoor markets in Brooklyn, now you can just head to Murray Hill for one of these incredibly satisfying sandwiches. A great thing about the new shop is that they now offer half sizes for the sandwiches. This makes it much easier to choose among the many great choices since you can try two different meats for the price and size of one sandwich. The other great thing about this location is that there are so many more choices now, including a section of "Popular Combinations" on the menu, which is key since you might not be able to come up with as good a result as they suggest with a number of the strange-sounding ingredients they have. For example, I got the suggested Short Rib & Brisket with Blueberry Sriracha and Pickled Onions ($5.25 for half size). It sounds odd, but the juicy, tender, braised meat pairs extremely well with the soft, delicious roll and the sweet blueberries. I also tried the half size of the Braised Pulled Chicken with Buffalo Vin, Bleu Cheese Aoili and Pickled Celery ($4.75). I may have even liked this one better - it was a juicy, delicious take on a buffalo chicken sandwich, but much tastier. They were already running smoothly on the first day they were open, turning out plenty of these great sandwiches. I would have liked to have some more good options for sides, other than just veggies, pickles and chips, but if you are in the mood for some of the most delicious braised meats and best-tasting sandwiches in the city, then definitely come here.

I came to Mayhem & Stout's stand at Madison Square Eats and it was such a good decision. The guys are very cool and helped us pick out the right sauces to compliment the meat we chose (although I so positive they would all be to die for) I ordered the Pulled Pork sandwich with the Dragon Asian BBQ (I definitely messed up that sauce name) and split it with my friends Brisket and Blueberry Sriracha sauce. I tried so hard to not eat it in one fail swoop as they were both INCREDIBLE and I wanted so badly to make it last haha Tip: Get the Spicy Slaw. Even if you don't know what slaw is or generally don't like slaw, get it added on here.

I live right by this place and the smell of the food is amazing when I walk by. Really quick sandwiches, nice friendly staff, and interesting menu (there's a lot on there so it can be overwhelming/confusing). I always get their pulled pork sandwich with kale, scallions, and dragon sauce. Tastes great. I'm deducting a star because their full size sandwich isn't large enough to fill me up. You would expect the kinds of sandwiches they're selling to be super huge, but they aren't. Also, despite asking them multiple times and even paying extra, I can never get them to give me enough dragon sauce.

  • Colleen Y.

Overpriced for what it is. I got the braised beef and Mac and cheese all crammed together in a soup cup to go. While the beef was really tender and slow cooked the mac and cheese which was shells with bland white(ish) yellow(ish) cheese. I also got pickles for $2.00 which is absurd because the pickles are isn't anything special. They are thin cut and their crunchiness varies by each pickle slice. I tried some of my friend's coleslaw and that also was very bland! Needless to say I didn't want another bite. Also side note, why is the name Mayhem & Stout? I was very excited to get a stout with my beef! But the cashier said they were still working on their liquor license.

  • Lisa Y.

For a place called "Mayhem and Stout", I was really jonsing for a stout after running 4 miles. They just opened not too long ago, and still waiting on their beer license. So no stout for now. I ordered the Mayhem salad topped with pulled pork. I thought the salad was good, but a tad greasy with the pulled pork. The dressing was like a light ranch, mmm, delicious. A spring mix topped off with fresh cauliflower, coleslaw, and pulled pork, I thought it was pretty good. My codiner ordered their mac and cheese with short ribs on top. Her order was a little disappointing because the mac and cheese tasted like the Shells and cheese out of a box, and slightly under seasoned. The short rib on top didn't quite taste that different from the pulled pork either. I'll come back when they have their stouts.

  • Mimi T.

Not really sure why this place had so many raving reviews. Hubs and I both got the brisket with the pickled veggies and sauce. First, I'm not a fan of pulled brisket. I usually prefer it in slices. I ordered a half and he got the whole. It looked like we had the same amount of meat but he just had more bread. So value wise I'd probably get the 1/2 again if you really don't get much more besides filler for the whole sandwich. Meat was ok, flavor was fine. Nothing spectacular IMO but maybe I tried the wrong item. It's worth trying again but fool me once and shame on you... hopefully I won't be fooled twice.

a bit disappointing and better on paper. i would come back, but not in a rush to do so. i got the pulled chicken, buffalo vin, bleu cheese aoili, and pickled onions- it was pretty good. they let us sample some of the meats prior and i found the chicken to be more tender than the red meats- they were a bit dry and bland. they also are a bit skimpy on the sauces. the mac and cheese was sub-par. service was fast and friendly but some of our orders managed to get screwed up.

I am more of a salad lover and I don't normally go for a meat/heavy sandwich place for lunch, but I was starving and walked by and decided to give it a try. Based On the look of the place, brooklynish/artisanal I somehow expected the food to be fresher and more interesting. I ordered the brisket sandwich with pickled vegetables and blueberry sauce and the Mac and cheese as a side. The latter seemed to have been heated in a microwave and did not seem fresh. Uninteresting at best. The sandwich had a very uninteresting and not so fresh bread with meat that was neither good nor bad. All in all I was disappointed, but I have to take responsibility for expecting more from hipsters.

'Eh, we got the pulled pork shoulder and short rib sandwiches, which both tasted pretty similar. The meat was kind of dry and not too fresh, and the bread was just soggy. It was just bar type quality food for a $10 sandwich. Sauces were interesting, though...

Spotted this place at Broadway Bites and wanted to get the pulled chicken sandwich with buffalo sauce and potato chips, but they were out of it. Total shame because it sounds so good, right? Ever since, I had my eye on it. Went back to Broadway Bites recently and finally got it. So disappointed. It's one of those times when you feel like you could've made a better sandwich. The chicken was definitely not buffalo-y enough and there were barely any potato chips on the sandwich. Sounded way better than it actually was. The upside is that my food was ready super quick.

The ultimate definition of comfort food sandwich. First tried them when they made a guest appearance at my corporate cafeteria and was hooked ever since. I'm not talking about cold deli cuts, this is slow roasted goodness. With awesome bread and sauces. Like blueberry sriracha (and you thought sriracha couldn't possibly be made better...) I really like the sizes too (I can get 2 small sandwiches and not be burdened with the difficulty of having to make a choice. The pickled veggies don't pack in much of a punch, but everything else is outstanding.

Note: Review for Seamless delivery only. Working out of the NY branch office for a few days, and getting free Seamless lunches, I went with what looked like one of the better options available, according to Yelp, ordering myself a: * Half Short Rib and Brisket w/ Blueberry Sriracha - This was the more lackluster of the two options: okay, but a bit lacking in flavor complexity/depth. * Half Lamb Shoulder w/ Dragon Sauce - This one didn't blow my mind either, but was the more enjoyable one of the two, with a nice little kick to it as well. While the flavors of both were definitely a bit lacking, the larger detracting issue with their sandwiches was that I wasn't a huge fan of the texture of the bread/dinner rolls that the sandwiches came on. As a (free) Seamless option, Mayhem & Stout isn't bad. As a paying in-store customer though, I would probably only give them 2 stars, and find myself eating at tastier lunch alternatives.

Good solid food with emphasis on unique savory flavors. Mom and pop interior with limited seating but the food is quick and fast. Great service, with a cool and helpful staff. "Health" is not of concern here, but fortunately, flavor and indulgence is. I've had better BBQ places, but for some reason, there is something uniquely craveable about this joint. Maybe it's the sauce, or the combination of ingredients... but it works. I liked it.

Carnivore's Perspective: Mayhem and Stout is an awesome place to grab a quick bite. I almost always grab the pork shoulder with dragon sauce and spicy slaw sandwich. It's always a satisfying and QUICK meal that I can pick up near the apartment. The sandwich size isn't that large, so you may not be completely full after eating one of these. Vegetarian Perspective: They have a delicious eggplant "meat" ball sandwich that I get. I fill it up with spicy slaw and chips. The flavors are satisfying and not bland at all. It's definitely a fun sandwich to eat.

Looking at all the good reviews here for actual food, I'm kind of surprised at how much I didn't like my order. I got a full sized Short Rib and Brisket w/Horseradish Cream and a mac and cheese. The food came within half an hour. The one overreaching flavor was of salt. Everything was SO salty (I love salt, but this was way too much). The mac and cheese was both over and under cooked (the top dried out and the bottom the consistency of Elmer's Glue. The sandwich had hardly any meat on it, and the sauce and onions were put on out of the fridge cold. I ended up just throwing everything out. Maybe I just got them on a bad day? It's possible I guess, but I'm kind of doubtful. I might give them another shot, just to see if I'm right because yesterday's food was pretty awful.

Grabbed a sandwich on the way home for the mothership and the folks working were nice guys. They also have popup presences at Broadway Bites and MSqEats, and originated at Smorgasburg/elsewhere (but don't take PayPal except at the B&M location). Thanks to PayPal, $0.72 for a half-sandwich with unlimited additions ain't bad. PayPal transactions to date*: 9/16/2013 Short Rib and Brisket 1 $5.25 $5.25 Total $5.72 USD 11/14/2013 Pork Shoulder 1 $8.75 $8.75 Total $9.53 USD Friendly dudes slow-ish service with no one else there and the delivery guy daydreaming out the window... 1/15/2014 Braised Vegetarian "Meat"balls (better than expected, didn't have enough for a full) 1 $4.75 $4.75 1/15/2014 Mac and Cheese (not bad not great) 1 $5.00 $5.00 Total $10.61 USD Braised Vegetarian "Meat"balls (not really though, but that was the 'meat' of the MAYHEM SALAD, which was quite good, and a very respectable portion) Kettle Chips (which they forgot due to a miscommunication, returned and they apologized) -$10.00 $0.61 They're billed by JBSA LLC rather than M&S or something else more descriptive/expected, apparently for receiver Jason Brown's initials. Braised Vegetarian "Meat"balls - made to order, chipotle mango was weak -$5.00 Total $0.17 Brownie - sea salt rather than the s'mores requested, and it was extremely underwhelming and yet again shamed the Robicelli's reputation $4.00 -$4.36

Damn, that's tasty! I did not know of these guys in their nomadic, food fair days, but the new storefront on 2nd Avenue is a welcome find. Braised meat sandwiches are the thing here; chopped brisket, pulled pork, etc., served on a bun with your choice of sauce and toppings. I went with the brisket and short rib, topped with dragon (barbecue) sauce and spicy slaw. DEE-licious and under $10. There's a Citi Bike dock across the street on 39th and 2nd, so ride on over and get some of this.

Mayhem & Stout opened on Second Avenue near 38th Street because, presumably, there was no space left south of 14th Street. I'm not sure if they decided to move here because they wanted to brilliantly change the neighborhood, but I fear they're going to have to in order to survive during the winter when we're less willing to venture too far. I've been going here for lunch and from arrival to departure, I'm usually the only one in the place. That's not a great signal so to keep this place around, you need to go here and here are three reasons why: 1. They make the most tender, delicate slow braised meat sandwiches in the area. And unlike buying from Mayhem & Stout at food fests, these sandwiches can be bought in either half or whole size. To be honest, the half size is large enough for most. Each of these sandwiches is garnished lightly, usually with a sauce and one "add-on." 2. The popular combinations make ordering a little easier. I've had three from this menu and they have all been satisfying. 3. If you can't make it to the store, order delivery. You'll like Mayhem & Stout if you're here for lunch, you're not expecting any inspiring interior design, and you just want a solid, consistent sandwich. It'll be interesting to see how they weather the winter. I may have to buy warmer clothes.

I got the Dragon with pulled pork. One of the best sandwiches I have ever had! I definitely recommend it!

Great service, great food, great price. I've ordered from here multiple times and have never been disappointed. Once they forgot a pet of my order, and before I even noticed anything was missing they called me and apologized for forgetting and told me they'd rush it over. They were back within 5 minutes and apologized again at the door. I even opened the bag to find some extra desserts inside. Love the food and the service. This is one of my favorites

I might blow off a birthday dinner tonight to go back for more sandwiches. Absolutely out of control... Brisket & short rib with onions and horseradish has me excited Jewish holidays are so early this year just to play with the leftovers. (Dad said "best brisket sandwich he's ever had. Dad is 63 and a skeptic of anything listed in Time Out.) The bread was just crusty enough, the sauce softened the inside just enough, the onions provided just the right touch of sweetness, and the meat was just enough but not too much and SO freakin' good. The pulled pork, dragon sauce, and spicy slaw, on the other hand, had just the right amount of heat in the sauce and the slaw, with just the right amount of crunch from the slaw, and of course, the pulled pork was awesome too. The little cup of pickles is worth $2 and is a nice sweet/sour contrast so you can re-appreciate each bite. Anyone who says their sandwiches aren't worth $9 is crazy. Pulled buffalo chicken, I'm coming for you next!

Came here after seeing a few pretty convincing reviews. The great thing about this place is that it's right by where I live. Couple friends and I decided to grab dinner and I suggested this spot. No one had every heard of Mayhem and Stout, and truth be told, if I were not on Yelp, I probably wouldn't have either. Bottom line: This place makes a great sandwich. I had 2 half sandwiches, which were larger than I had anticipated. I didn't really trust my own ability to create a sandwich so I went with their suggestions. I had the pork with dragon sauce and the short rib with blueberry sriracha. Both sandwiches were pretty packed with meat. In the future, I might be able to do with just one half sandwich for a light meal. The meat was very flavorful even without the sauces. The slaw on the pork was crunchy and very refreshing. The short rib was also very tasty and the pickled onions were very well done. The only complaint I might have is that sometimes the sauces aren't very evenly distributed throughout the sandwich and when you get to an area without any sauce the meat can feel a little dry in your mouth. That being said, this is still an above-average sandwich. The prices are a little higher than most sandwich places but you're also getting a lot more meat. It works out to about $10 for a whole sandwich and $5 for a half. I personally enjoy the rolls that the half sammies come with more than the hoagies they use for the whole sandwiches. Will definitely be back to try their other sandwich creations. P.S: They might do well to invest in some decent ventilation. The inside of the shop is pretty hot, stuffy, and smokey. I probably do exclusively take out or delivery.

I eat here at least once weekly. The food and service are fantastic. It's a great way to mix up the work-week daily lunch routine because the menu is quite different from any other sandwich shop. I strongly recommend the braised chicken which is good with any of their sauces.

Ordered the pulled pork and veggie meatball sandwiches, which were good, but the mac and cheese was subpar. It was not cheesy enough and a little dry, maybe due to being delivered. Nothing like the pictures.

That short rib sandwich was just orgy orgy orgy in your mouth. However, don't think about getting delivery. Just won't taste as good. Either get it for carry out or eat in. It's just so good.

Bless you, PayPal! Came here not really knowing what to expect and was pleasantly surprised. I had the Short Rib & Brisket sandwich with Bleu Cheese Aioli dressing - the meat was super flavorful and juicy. I must admit, though, that for a whole sandwich at $9 a pop, I expected the bread to be a bit bigger/the sandwich to be bigger overall. Even so, this place is worthy of a good splurge every now and then. Also, apparently you can get as many add-ons as you like (at no extra charge? I wasn't told that, but one member of my party got 2 add-ons and wasn't charged extra), so next time I'll be taking advantage of that. I was able to try the Braised Pulled Chicken too (compliments of one of the people I was with), and that was pretty stellar. The place even has some awesome tongue-in-cheek wall art to boot, so be sure to check that out while you're there.

Tried the short rib and brisket sandwich with blueberry sriracha and pickled onions. The meat was great, but overall there wasn't much texture. The bread was really soft and there wasn't anything crunchy to contrast the richness of the meat. I'd eat it again though!

Below, good = +++ / bad = --- . Brownies ($4.36 total): BEST BROWNIES EVER!!!!! Yes, it really does warrant all those exclamation points. They're from Robicelli's, a popular Brooklyn bakery. 5 stars. So unbelievably rich and fudge-y that they melt in your mouth (and in your hand). The brownies are a new addition to the menu here. These are huge at 5 oz each (as helpfully pointed out on their menu). Whether or not it's fair, I'm bumping up my review of this place 1 whole star simply because of these brownies, even though M&S is just a purveyor of Robicelli's goodies. +++The Moverly (scotch whiskey, roasted walnuts, espresso): OMG, so fudgey!!! I didn't taste the slightest hint of whiskey or espresso, but who cares when it's sooo fudgey.... +++Chocolate Raspberry Creme: Culinary orgasm. Seriously. Drool...A velvety smooth, fudge-a-riffic brownie. It tasted even better a several hours after purchase. That's it, from now on, I'm only getting brownies from Robicelli's! And since they're located far out in Brooklyn, I'm buying them from here instead. This one is my favorite flavor by far. Sandwiches: +++Braised Pulled Chicken w/ Black Cherry Mustard & Roasted Kale (half size, $4.75 + tax): Pretty good. The mustard added a nice kick. ---Braised Pulled Pork w/ Blueberry Sriracha Sauce (full size, $8.75 + tax): Yawn. It was all one-note and low-flavor. Kind of just greasy pork in a bun. The sauce sounded exciting and looked interesting, but was truly imperceptible taste-wise. Definitely not worth the full $8.75. More like half that. Friendly staff. No bathrooms here, but there's Purell at the counter and a free water filling station with plastic cups. Two picnic tables.

Blech. I had sandwiches delivered. I ordered a whole braised pulled chicken sandwich with chipotle mango sauce and kale. The sauce wasn't nearly as exciting as it sounded, but a sort of blobby orange monotony spread on a soggy bun. The sandwich meat was uninspired at best, and at worst possibly soaked in dog saliva. But I did learn one valuable lesson about food delivery (and perhaps any endeavor) in New York City: stick to your comfort zones, don't try to make it cute or interesting unless you've exhaustively researched your source. The one silver lining? It took 10 minutes for the food to get here (compare with a 45-60 min estimated delivery time), and only 5 seconds to punt it into the trash.

Amazing! The meats are tender, juicy, and flavorful, and I love the fact that I can get half sandwiches...just so I can mix and match, not because I can't finish a whole portion. The combinations are pretty well-paired; try the pork shoulder with Dragon sauce and slaw for a fusion twist and the lamb with harissa and tahini for a Middle Eastern spin. They also offer the meats on salads, but, personally, I love the bread from Caputo. Service was very efficient and friendly too.

Yes, I am a fan !. These sandwiches are small, yet tasty. I had two halfs which were the braised short rib and the pulled pork. The braised short rib won this round as it had THAT flavor, fresh bread and the slaw was on-point. The pulled pork was a nice compliment that i would recommend as well. The only thing i would say is the sandwiches need a "little heat" -- some spice added-- Go and enjoy

Ordered delivery from this place tonight. We got the braised lamb shoulder with tzatziki and the short rib with blueberry sriracha. The sandwiches were really tasty and fairly priced. The pickles and the slaw were in tiny containers and not that great. The lemonade tasted really watered down. In short, TRY THE SANDWICHES.

Mayhem & Stout: a make your own sandwich aficionado's dream or a paralyzing experience for the decision-phobic. They carry a variety of high quality meats, and a rather extensive selection of sauces/spreads/and other toppings. The combinations seem endless. Truly you can customize to satisfy every taste preference. When I visited, I was not feeling bold and picked a sandwich from their "favorites" section which was the short rib and brisket, red wine vinyayo (whatever that is), and pickled veggies. It was very juicy and I most certainly made an embarrassing mess of myself eating it, but it fully satisfied my meat craving. The music was good and the people were friendly. Will be back.

Lamb shoulder with Harissa and tzatziki was a little underwhelming: slightly dry lamb and slightly too much tzatziki made for a timidly-flavored mouthful. Plus, as a certified greedy pig the portion could have been a little bigger for the dineros. I'll try another combo next time in pursuit of deliciousness.
