The Red Plum was recommended to us by a couple of good friends that share a love for Japanese cuisine. It was somewhat comical to us that a third Japanese restaurant had opened up on Mamaroneck Avenue. Once we experienced our dinner at The Red Plum, we realized it stood out significantly from the other two. Definitely make a reservation if you are going on the weekend. The staff was gracious, knowledgeable and friendly. The ambiance and décor of the restaurant is funky and so aesthetically pleasing that it gets you excited for a good meal. The lights and colors are very alluring. Their specialty drinks were outstanding. You absolutely cannot miss the Lychee Blossom Martini. It is made with Stoli Peach, Cointreau and fresh Lychee puree. My husband had the Sake Sangria made with red wine, sake, fruit juice and fresh fruit slices. Amazing! The dinner menu is creative and original. There are Asian fusion type choices as well. For dinner we ordered a few specialty rolls. A couple that stood out were the Naruto Roll- Tuna, Yellowtail, Salmon, Avocado & Tobiko wrapped in paper-thin cucumber; theBlack Dragon Roll with pepper tuna, mango, eel, avocado and black Tobiko. The sushi was prepared so beautifully, the fish was incredibly fresh and flavorful and the presentation was unforgettable. We finished our meal with a serving of Chicken Pad Thai which was served with sides of sprouts, scallions and peanuts so that you could assemble your own perfect bite. The Red Plum was fantastic. We've been back a few times since and have never been disappointed. Highly recommended!

I've been meaning to come to this place for sometime now and I am glad I did. The service was good and the food was delicious. You must try the Coconut seafood soup, it was amazing. I have been telling everyone about this soup and often dream about it. Maybe I am telling you too much but the bottom line is you must try it.

rolls are great! A little pricy but that's what u get for good sushi.

Great atmosphere and great sushi!!! I think I prefer Gin Ban's sushi a little bit more, but this place definitely has better atmosphere so in the end its a toss up. All in all great place for sushi.

I have lived in NYC and still work in the city, so I have been spoiled when it comes to great asian and sushi restaurants. Red Plum is definitely up there with the best. The food is always fresh, great service, nice cocktail menu, good atmosphere, plus it's child friendly.

  • Sun L.

This is probably the best sushi restaurant in Mamaroneck. The sushi is great. The ambiance is great for dates, and smaller groups. The staff was friendly and attentive. The salmon and eel were both really fresh. Happy eating!

  • Sonia H.

I only dined there once for lunch. Their food is way too salty which is very bad for your health!!! I like their basil shrimp and the rest of other dishes are not very attractive and I find their price is a little bit steep for the quantity or the quality of the food.

  • Keith R.

This place has great atmosphere and very friendly staff. The food here is fantastic. Everything I ordered off the menu is great except maybe the tuna tar tar. If you want raw fish stay away from that and try one of their rolls. Best drinks on the avenue too. Real good bartenders. My favorite, crazy-t roll.

  • Alex D.

This is our favorite take out sushi place around here. They are pricey but the fish is fresh and rolls are well prepared. When it comes to sushi you I would not take a chance on 'average' products to save a buck.

Any patron can immeidately tell that Red Plum is just an extension of it's next door neighbor. The hostess didn't smile, the waiters and waitresses for the most part are indifferent (with one exception), the food is more expensive than Haiku or the substantially better Ginban down the street. The food (we had a variety of rolls, sushi, general Tao, seaweed salad and other dishes over a number of visits) was good, but not great and pricey for where and what it is. You get squeezed in and given the food as if they are doing you a favor. I have to agree with Melissa that Ginban is head and hands better than Red Plum. We've taken our business there.

I had dinner here with my wife and two daughters. We were seeing a movie next door and needed a place nearby. Having seen the reviews on Yelp we decided to give Red Plum a try. Wow, what a find!!! As soon as you walk in you realize you are not in an ordinary restaurant environment, from the glass fountain wall, to the beautiful colorful paper lanterns and elegant Asian carved stone wall decorations. The staff also greet you warmly and are wonderfully attentive. And as you might hope, the food is what makes this restaurant a standout. We have always been skeptical of claims that certain restaurants serve far better sushi than others--raw fish is raw fish, right? As long as it's fresh. Well, we don't know how they do it here, but the sushi was otherworldly! The tuna and salmon especially metled in your mouth and seemed fresher than fresh, if that makes sense. Our appetizers included the edamame with salt (the tenderest we've had), a fluffy Asian pancake with a spicy coconut dipping sauce (sublime), crispy calamari with a mint peanut sauce (delicious) and vegetarian spring rolls with sweet and sour sauce (very good). In addition to the sushi, entrees included the spicy, crispy Siamese snapper (amazing!), the teriyaki salmon (hands down, the best we've ever had!) and Pad Thai with shrimp (delicious). The entire meal, which included 4 appetizers and 4 entrees, as well as two drinks from the bar was $113 (including tax, before tip). If this place were in NYC, it would be mobbed, you couldn't get reservations and if you could it would cost two to three times as much. We live 10 miles away in Irvington, NY. We will be coming back here again and again--it's worth the trip!

The owners of Toyo (next door) opened in Dec. 2008 what is being marketed as an Asian fusion restaurant. It is really more a pan-Asian restaurant (i.e., menu with distinct Japanese, Chinese and Southeast Asian items but not really "Asian fusion" in that there are not new items that combine different culinary influences within a single dish) -- at least from what I could tell from a lunch visit. That being said, Red Plum is particularly good at the Southeast Asian dishes, and thus earns a 4-star from me on that account. Specifically, their green and red curries were flavorful with a bite one does not typically find in the burbs. One wonders if this kind of authentic flavoring will actually be popular with local diners, however, and then gradually slide towards the less distinctive middle ground (bland) side, as we've seen with some other ethnic restaurants in Westchester. Until then, enjoy. The Japanese and Chinese items seemed fairly typical for the area and do not stand out. From overhearing the service and cooking staff, they seemed to be speaking Vietnamese or another Southeast Asian language so I would go with what they seem to do best. The decor was modern and with clean lines, but a bit more hodge-podgy than its competitor Haiku up-the-street. They have a full bar with a flat panel TV, which I guess can come in handy if one wants to watch something playing on the TV and have a drink.

a bit of wait nd there was no place to sit besides the bar which was full but the service was pretty good, the waiter was great, very informative...unfortunately, my girl found a big piece of hair in her food, the manager was kind nd apologetic nd didn't charge us for it...the rice was amazing, i'm still new to the sushi thing but the Hawaiian sushi roll was really good according to my girl, altho i preferred my simple California rolls...nice atmosphere inside but it is quite small nd tight...wouldn't go again tho after the hair in the food.

I've since tried all the sushi places in mamaroneck, and can conclude in my own decisive opinion that Red Plum is the best. They aren't as popular as Haiku, so prices aren't typically as high. Their cocktails are delicious. The service is good. My only complaint would be that most of their dinner dishes are a bit too sweet, but beyond that I love coming here for a good night out.

    (5)
  • L B.

I had the sushi and a couple of hot appetizers. The apps were pretty good -- pork dumplings, edamame & chicken satay, thought the satay was a little dry. The sushi was just ok, I've had better at lots of other places. It was a Saturday night and the place was crowded and noisy, a bit too noisy I'd say. It was almost difficult to have a conversation. The bare stone / walls probably amplified the noise. I liked the decor and the service was good, but the food just wasn't up to par with other sushi places in lower Westchester. After dinner a walk down the street past the other places on Mamaroneck Ave and I knew I should have gone to one of the other sushi restaurants instead.

red plum is awesome! we love that the fish is always fresh and the presentation is always a nice plus! its a little pricey but for excellent sushi, it's worth it. It's a nice youthful place on Mamaroneck Avenue. we enjoy going there.

My husband and I took our 3 children for dinner because we were tired of always going to Water Moon in Rye, which is similar to Red Plum. We all agreed that Red Plum is hands down the winner! We are from CA, so we definitely are experts on all types of Asian food, and most of what you find on the east coast is greasy and inedible! My 9 yr old daughter and 5 yr old son shared the coconut soup to start. It was served in a coconut shell and was made with shrimp, scallops, and potatoes. It was so flavorful! We also shared the tempura starter and calamari, as well as the lettuce cups. All were equally delicious, not greasy, but very "fresh" and not overcooked. For our main courses we ordered the green curry tofu, Birds Nest w/chicken and shrimp, pineapple fried rice, and sesame chicken, which is always a favorite of my 5 yr old son. The dishes were all done beautifully, vegetables were never overcooked but still crispy, tofu was silky and cut into large squares, and the curry was excellent! Our favorites were the green curry and birds nest entrees. Will definitely go back very soon! So happy to have another Asian that's comparable to a California restaurant. For being just one of the many restaurants on Mamaroneck Avenue, it's a stand-out! Service was excellent as well. Waiter was very good w/my 5 yr old and 3 yr old, giving them new kids chopsticks when a set fell on the floor, and very friendly!

I am torn between 3 and 4 starts. The atmosphere of the place was great and the food was descent. I would have liked more distinctive taste, but it was ok. Lunch special was a good deal and the service was fine. I would not think of returning all the way, unless I happen to be in Mamaroneck and if I find a good parking spot. There is nothing wrong with the place, but it just isn't special enough for me.

This Restaurant is a great addition to White Plains. Its very chic and trendy. The minute you enter you are impressed by the well designed decor. The service is very friendly. The menu is very diversified and the food is excellent. The prices are very reasonable..I will definitely continue to patronize this well run establishment........

This place is pretty consistent with their sushi AND you can walk in just before closing and will still be seated and served. Overall a solid dinner for a nice night out.

This review is based on my 20-25 minute experience in the restaurant. We went on a Friday it was a mad house. I just couldn't understand why anyone would put themselves through this ordeal. I entered and immediately was assaulted by the smell of fried oil. YUCK! I was asked did I have a reservation when I walked in. I said yes and the server said nothing else and walked away. I was asked again a couple of minutes later if I had a reservation by another worker but this time was asked for my name. Again, I said yes! Waited a couple of more minutes and was asked a THIRD time by another worker if I had a reservation which I said yes and gave my name again. In all this time, all the workers seemed overwhelmed! The noise level was very loud and did not lend itself to a date night ambience. I was edgy and hadn't even been seated. After a couple of more minutes, the first worker who asked if I had a reservation said "come with me now." She pointed to the table, placed the menus and walked away. The tables are so close together I felt I was practically on the lap of the person on the next table. The table to the right of me were two teenage girls who looked miserable. One asked if she could see my menu because she had asked for a menu twice and hadn't received one????????? While I was waiting for my date and the server to take our drink orders, I saw several disgruntle workers looking confused, the smell of fried oil was making me nauseous, and frankly the whole start of the night was a turn off. So I decided at this point, there are several restaurants in the area that treat their customers better and have a nicer ambience. I just got up and left. As my date was walking to the restaurant I explained the situation and we went elsewhere. Now, I can't comment on the food since I didn't eat. But service and ambience is important to me during my dining experience. I am not expecting 5 star service at this price point, but talking to customers sternly and seeming agitated with life is not a place I want to dine at!!! It may be that the weekday (Mondays thru Thursdays) is more relaxing but definitely not on a Friday and I can't even imagine a Saturday. Will never be back!

My go to Japanese food made by Chinese people. If you want authentic go to Fujinoya in Hartsdale, but if you want good day in and out asian fare this is the place to go. Smacked dab in the center of the town of Mamaroneck, the decor is modern and they recently renovated. I order the chirashi and some spicy tuna or crush hand rolls fill up. Go out afterwards to Paleteria Fernandez for some coconut or guava popiscles. Delicious!

The food is pretty good, but the hostess is very rude, the restaurant is too dark, and service is very hands off. I'm in no rush to return. Zenzo sushi and Gin Ban are much better.

The decor here is beautiful with a great ambience complemented by a koi waterfall. Fantastic menu: sushi, Asian fusion, filet mignon, and full bar. The food is fantastic and they have great service. There are also live performances on Hibachi table grills by yours truly, the chef. Good eats in a quaint town. Short and simple.

My wife and I have dined here for quite some time now. It is by far our favorite sushi spot in all of westchester county. It is always fresh and delicious. There hot dishes (Pad Thai) is also very tasty. You never have to wait long for your food either. Though a bit a pricey its def worth the money. The atmosphere is great and it's right in the heart of town.

  • Rachel Z.

I will start with the disclaimer that I am not a sushi/seafood eater, so my impressions of Red Plum are going to be from a different angle. I don't think this place is any better or any worse than most of the Asian fusion places on the strip. I tend to lean to the Thai side when I go to places like this and I have enjoyed the red curry and the crispy chicken with the sweet chili dipping sauce. I also enjoy the vegetable dumplings and Vietnamese salad. Everything is decent and tasty. They also do wonderful cocktails. Most of the time the service here is quite friendly. There have been a couple of times when it's been faulty or slow, but those are not the norm. I find the staff efficient and pleasant. Don't go here too late in the evening because it is a bit of a bar scene with crowds and loud music.

very bad service, the owner needs to stop being cheap by charging extra for every little thing, for example 1.50 for spicy mayo 2 $ to add crunchon roll , lol FOH

This was my first time having raw sushi and I must say it was great! I had the spicy tuna and enjoyed every bite! The red plum wine (tantra) was also very good; well that's if you like sweet wine. I went with friends however it is more of a romantic setting. Definitely a great place to take a date! Also the staff is extremely pleasant!

This place is amazing , but my fav was the food. You should also try red plum's sister place, Toyo sushi. That place is very good too. My fav food in red plum is the California sushi roll and the pad Thai. Too bad red plum is in upstate- otherwise we would go there everyday. I do not suggest to bring kids to this place. As a final note, I will highly recommend this place to any sushi newcomer. ( also I would say that this place is awesome. )

  • Amanda M.

There is something about Red Plums lunch specials that keep me running back. Maybe it's because you can get a big, juicy filet Mignon with a large array of vegetables, along with soup, salad and rice for $12? Yes, that is definitely the reason. They're food is always HIT, never miss. It's consistent, the food always tastes exactly the same, which is a hard thing to find in a restaurant. Their terriyaki sauce is delicious, the miso soup is really rich not like the generic salt water some restaurants serve. They lost a star because the wait service can be pretty rude sometimes. I came here yesterday for lunch with a friend, and our waiter was impatient and sarcastic. My friend has a hard time using chop sticks, so she kindly asked for a fork. The food came, and she waited 5 minutes for her fork. Finally she grew so impatient that she got up and asked someone for a fork. When she returned to the table the waiter approached us as said "I was getting your fork, you could have waited!"... The waiter should have brought the fork along with her meal she she would have to wait eat it right away. Other than that, terrific food, the ambiance and decor is really nice, and the prices are fair!

Food is decent - good choices and fresh sushi. Very busy on Saturday evening - waitresses rude and will shout at you to excuse themselves as they scurry around. Music loud. Miss very much our favorite sister restaurant, Toyo, which seems to have been taken over. Toyo was cozier and much friendly atmosphere.

    (3)
  • Collin J.

    1) sushi is fantastic 2) quite pricey and still attempting to figure out if it is worth it (guess that is a) a good thing and b) I might be going back. 3) owner of restaurant also owns Toyo which is right next store and he is there to ensure you have the best service possible. 4) staff works hard and is attractive. 5) lastly, drinks are way too expensive and they may want to lower these prices to capitalize on more refills. All in all, sushi is a plus as far I'm concerned and I have had a lot of sushi.

We went to Red Plum today for the first time and were very happy we did. As other reviewers have noted, the decor is very pleasing - indoor waterfall, birch, bamboo - great care was taken with the entire interior. We started with Coconut Seafood Chowder. It was served in a carved out coconut - and the chowder was simply divine - nectar of the Gods, no kidding! The Sushi a la Carte was extremely fresh and appetizing. Our main dishes were the Golden Dragon Roll, American Dream Roll and mine was the Naruto Roll: tuna, yellowtail, salmon, avocado & tobiko wrapped in cucumber - yumm!! We all shared and everything was exquisite. Also had wonderful sake and green tea. We felt like a million bucks by the time we left. ;-) Oh, and the service was very polite and just right. Would definitely return. So glad to find this gem on Mamaroneck Avenue!

An Asian Fusion restaurant who knows all about the gluten allergy. They offer gluten-free soy sauce. Was disappointed by the the fact that their spicy sauce on their tuna rolls has gluten in it, but the waitress was extremely accommodating and I appreciated it. Go for the Kim-Chee, too, you won't be disappointed by it's strong flavors.

I have been eating here for over a year... and I just realized I haven't reviewed! Here goes: Their fish is fresh, and their specialty rolls are original and tasty. Try the Crush roll. Service is friendly, and delivery is timely. Dependable, and satisfying every time.

Red Moon Martini, my only drink of the night and let me tell you it was good, (good = strong) My entree was the Filet Mignon 8 oz. w. Red Plum's special black pepper sauce, Prince mushrooms, Fried sweet potatoes Garnish...and it was all good, I did not leave a bite!!!! Will be back!

Food is always excellent, like the service. I usually start with "Rock Shrimp Tempura" and end up with sushi. I think it's the best place for sushi in Westchester. Reasonable price for quality and quantity. Also recommend "Sushi for 2" or "Sushi Sashami for 2".

the decor is the best part of this place. the food overall is meh. i had the worst pad thai of my life from red plum... it didn't even taste like pad thai! it was just disgusting! i couldn't eat it. you might as well just go to Tokyo Sushi next door b/c it's owned by the same people and it's only Japanese (which is their strong point) rather than the crappola fusion at this place. if you're going to do fusion.. do it right! but if you want /excellent/ fusion food try Ginban down the street... AMAZING!

Great NYC vibe right in little old Mamaroneck!! Very good food and service!! Had the sushi and my gf had Alaskan salmon in Korean spices, which was a special. The waitress recommended and was she very happy with her choice. I've already been told this is where she wants to go for her birthday!! Would have given it 5 stars but the dessert menu stunk! I really thought they would have good Mochi Ice Cream and was very disappointed to not see it on there. For the best Mochi Ice Cream try U Me Sushi in Nanuet NY. Otherwise Red Plum is fantastic!!

With about 6 Japanese restaurants on the same strip, this is my favorite. Sushi is always fresh and prepared well. Atmosphere is fun and lively.

We order dinner from here all the time. The food is absolutely delicious and never disappoints! The sushi fresh and perfect. Entrees are great. Pineapple fried rice is my #1 recommendation along with broccoli in brown sauce. I have also dined at the restaurant and the ambiance is modern and comfortable with good service. Only 4 stars out of 5 because the delivery drivers are sometimes rude about the tips we give, even though it's 15-20%. If there are no gratuity polices in place, they have no right to make verbal complaints about how much we give. As a paying customer I find this distasteful.

Hibachi Birthday! Hibachi food was below average, but one can't ask too much from the method. Hibachi service was terrible, the cook was sour like the scallops. Hibachi waiter treated us like we were doing him a favor by being there. Hibachi show was nonexistent. Our vegan guest ordered the Tofu Curry, came out in less than 3 minutes and piping hot and 15 minutes before the hibachi started. Tip to the 'chef': use the popcorn button instead, it heats more evenly than the high setting on most microwaves. Take me back to the days of Toyo when the sushi was the best on the Sound Shore and it wasn't just another smelly hibachi joint. There are about four other Asian Fusion options on the Ave within walking distance, check those out first!

Went to the hibachi. Below average. Expected more given its reputation. Everything was salty, which I like, but it overpowered the food. Salad was decent. Soup was bland. My dad is obsessed with this place, but I've had better Asian fusion on Mamaroneck Ave.

Delicious fresh sushi and great strong cocktails.. First came here for my mother in laws Bday and did the hibachi.. That was also great and my kids loved it.. Great food definitely would come back

Solid sushi spot! They have really great fresh king salmon sashimi, which is my ultimate favorite. I have yet to find a place around with better king salmon. Their specialty rolls are also really good. I love the Naruto roll, the Alaska beauty and Black dragon. Well, I mean, I could eat any of their specialty rolls, but those are some of my favorites. The coconut fish soup is a must try. It is very filling so maybe order to share, or not too much food after. The location in White Plains does not have plum wine by the glass (gasp!!!! :0 ), but the Mamaroneck location does!! The service is very friendly and attentive. Oh yea, I have never had it before, but they do also have hibachi tables towards the back. Looks good!

I was eating dinner here on a Friday night and it was probably the fastest dinner I've ever had! We got lucky and had a table as soon as we walked in and everything just went so smoothly after that. The service was excellent! I had their Mango Chicken which was a little too sweet in my opinion but still really good. It was served hot and we barely had to wait.

I've been here about 4 times so far and it's fantastic! Service is great, prices are reasonable and the food is excellent. So far the appetizers I've ordered/shared are Potato Pancake (this is really perfectly flaky roti with peanut & potato sauce), Gyoza, Chicken Satay & Chicken Lettuce Cups - all excellent. Miso soup is nice and not your average Asian miso - really great balanced taste. Entrees I've had/shared include Crispy Red Snapper (I keep coming back to this dish), Red Beef Curry and Shrimp Pad Thai. I can't wait to try other ones (assuming I can keep myself form ordering the Crispy Red Snapper again! I'm also wanting to try the hibachi (note actual Hibachi tables are only at Mamaroneck restaurant).

Best place on mamaroneck ave. I have been going to red plum since it was Toyo for 10 years. It's very consistent, prices are great.

Overhyped. There are dozens of Asian restaurants within walking distance- I would avoid Red Plum at all costs. The workers are rude, and act as though your presence is an inconvenience to them. The food is mediocre at best, and the service is awful.

Absolutely the best Hibachi restaurant I have been too. They are quite eager to make your stay enjoyable. I have no complaints. The food was on point the service top notch atmosphere lively and fun and very welcoming. I have so much food I'm getting a doggie bag to go and plan on having that for lunch tomorrow. You have to try this place at least once. Prices are reasonable especially for the amount of food.

Great food and service. My son likes the filet mignon appetizer. My wife had sushi and no complaints from her. :) I personally love their fried rice!

First time here. Dark and trendy sushi place. Bar in the front with two separate dining areas. Their specialty drinks are reasonably priced at $12 and you definitely get your money's worth! Love the decor in here dark but light illuminating from different hanging lamps and even from the bar itself! Entire front of the restaurant is window doors which I'm sure they open when it's nice out. Staff is very friendly and accomodating. I would come back any time!

My family went here for Father's Day dinner today and we thought it's very good. The waiters are very polite and helpful. The food is delicious. We ordered 3 appetizer (duck rolls, beef negimaki, and pork dumplings). For entrees we ordered dinosaur rolls, Buddhist delights, and bird's nest. They all taste delicious and looked good too. We definitely will be going back.

Decor was beautiful .. Small inside but cute for a small group or date.. Love the red lighting to go with the name. Staff was attentive. I ordered the shrimp Terayaki since they didn't offer that with bento box except at lunch. Was amazing had a sweet flavor with mixed fresh vegetables with brown rice! My man had a chicken Terayaki bento box with shumai, shrimp tempura , California roll & brown rice .. Tried it was amazing as well large portions!! We both had the Tokyo Mai tai for $12 was strong & tasty we left with leftovers & feeling great!! Highly recommend best Japanese on the ave !!

I love this place. Ambiance is sexy but casual at the same time. Service is always great. They also have brown rice for sushi or for more health conscience people no rice, which a lot of places don't always do.Their rock shrimp tempura I have to say, might be better than Phillipes mayo prawns. I've Never had a problem with this place and their fish is always fresh. If you're and avocado lover which I definitely am, red plum is always the place to go, for some reason their avocados are literally always perfectly ripened. I have sushi at many places but this place really is one of the best. Try the hot sake it's great.

I had never been here before last night, but I am so glad I did! At 6:30 on a saturday night the place was buzzing yet they sat us immediately. The waitress, I think her name was Iya? Ira? She gave us wet naps to wipe our hands before we ordered. She was very nice and was always around if we needed her. I ordered the Thai Basil fried rice which was pretty good! I regret not ordering something a bit more unique, yet I left happy! I will absolutely be back. The workers come down to my job sometimes to eat and they are very nice, so it is a great atmosphere.

Have always been a frequent visitor here when I used to live in the area. The sushi is always good, so are their entrees. They also have hibachi now in what used to be Toyo sushi....the place is nicely renovated/decorated. Ambiance is more of a lounge at night time. Prices are decent, but the tab can add up quickly!

Hands down, the best sushi. Their waiter Steven is amazing and constantly on point. Their bartender Jackie is the quintessential bartender who sees everything, acts efficiently and always delivers the PERFECT cocktail. I've been coming here for years, and will continue to come for many more.

    (5)
  • Christina M.

I would give this 3 1/2 stars if I could. We have been frequent visitors here over the past year or so, and I do like there sushi.... but... there are just way to many fillers in every single roll we have ever had from here. I don't see the need to put that much filler into a sushi roll, we always end up leaving feeling disturbingly bloated. We do love their rock shrimp however. It is a staple item we order without question every time we visit. We've also had the summer rolls which were great as well. My favorite roll is the crave roll, but I wish they would just put a little less filler on the top. On the other hand, their Kani salad is very good. And I love going in the spring/summer because they have the outdoor seating. A martini, a nice breeze and a good view is perfect for an early dinner. They also have a hibachi section which we have yet to try, but it usually seems busy so Im sure it's good. Bathrooms are clean as well which of course is a PLUS+.. so thank you Haiku for that!

With so many places on Mamaroneck for sushi Red Plum ranks right up there. They just recently renovated and half the restaurant is now hibachi. I haven't been, but the sushi is great. Good ambiance. Great lunch specials as well.

Our first time (there will be more) was early dinner on Sunday. Sat at the hibachi table. Decent show and good food. The chicken was perfectly cooked. I thought the steak was a little chewy but the hubby thought it was good; We also had a couple sushi rolls- spicy tuna and veggie tempura. Both were good. Will definitely return to try some of their other kitchen dishes.

Great sushi, great staff, always very willing to accommodate my autistic child and his need to sit in a particular seat. By far the best from the line of japanese restaurants on mamaroneck avenue. yum.

I ordered Chicken Basil (to go). It was awful! it's suppose to be spicy but it was totally bland.. had no flavor of basil. I felt gross after eating it. It had a lot of veges, which is fine, but the chicken did not taste right. It might not have been fully cooked. I will never eat here again.

This place tries to be a All trendy. It has gone downhill since it merged with toyo. The wait staff is rude. It's too noisy. And weekends are a nightmaRe. The food is very good , but I think KOO in Rye is way better. I prefer Haiku as well.still the ushi is great. Too noisy and crowded though for good conversation.

We had several lunches and dinners at Red Plum. Our last lunch on last Tuesday was very disappointing. We ordered a few rolls and a salmon teriyaki lunch box. The salmon was UN-eatable. The chef cooked it in some disgusting oil (maybe old oil) that was too heavy and smelled really awful. I could not taste the fish. All I smelled and tasted was the cheap/oil (?) that the fish was cooked/fried in. The chef ruined a beautiful piece of fish. I am very disappointed. The small piece of salmon we ate made us nauseous.

Unless you're with Lydia L., it's tough to find decent Asian eats in Westchester. Red Plum is your typical pan-Asian restaurant: there's a section of the menu for sushi, a section for Thai food, a section for Chinese food, and so on. It's also tough to find a restaurant in Westchester with a decent atmosphere (e.g., absence of screaming children, strollers, etc.). Red Plum is definitely more formal than a habachi joint, but not quite as stuffy as some of the other restaurants in Larchmont and Mamaroneck. Our server asked us if we wanted to order drinks. The cocktails and wine are Manhattan-priced, with most cocktails in the $10-11 range. For an entree, I ordered the Buddhist's Delight, which comes with a side of rice. The dish is a combination of steamed vegetables (which were still a little crunchy, which I enjoyed) and silken tofu. Prior to ordering, I had asked the waitress about the sauce the dish was served in, because the menu did not specify. She told me there was no sauce, but it turns out the Buddhist's Delight is served in a light butter sauce. If I had known, I would have asked the sauce to be served on the side. I had a bite of my friend's pad Thai, and it was just alright; the noodles were dry and the sauce was sweeter than it should have been. As is the case with many pan-Asian restaurants, all of the food was decent, but none of it was particularly outstanding. Red Plum is a good solution to the dearth of options for a nice dinner with friends in the area. Just be warned: parking on the weekends is a nightmare!

I ordered the ceviche and it was all vegetables with little seafood, everything else was good except the staff instead of taking the ceviche back they just argued with me and told me next time to ordered something else. That is bullshit bad service, wake up red plum and learn about the customer service.

We went there on a whim and walked out saying 'This was one of the best Asian meals we've ever had!'. My husband ordered the birds nest and I ordered the pad Thai which was recommended by our young and timid server . Who started yesterday. For apps we ordered the Indian roti/bread and curry and he got the calamari. It was finger licking good! A must go, a must eat and a must for white plains! Ichiro sucks compared to this!

Came for a nice family meal. Three of three steaks came well done when ordered medium. After sending them back to the kitchen the steaks that came back to the table were literally raw, cold in the middle. After sending them back again the "manager" (not Peter, some other guy with glasses) walked over, put his hands on the table and simple said "yes?" After getting over the momentary stun, I simply replied "yes what?" and the guy walked off. Next thing we know the bill comes to the table while we were trying to finish our drinks and whatever decent food came to the table... which there wasn't much of. (By the way, don't order the vegetable tempura. It's a heavy batter cooked in oil that is the wrong temperature because it was very heavy and oily. I've had excellent tempura in Tokyo, and this was far from it but I didn't want to seem pretentious by sending that back as well, but it was pretty terrible.) Back to the "manager" with the glasses... There were another couple of servers/hostesses who came to argue with us and wound up walking off shouting in a non-English language. When we questioned the accuracy of the bill (that we hadn't even asked for yet) and the quality of the food this same manager guy told us to pay and leave or he will call the police. Nice customer service. We told him to please go ahead and call the police and we patiently waited... No police ever arrived. We were told that the actual manager/owner was at his other restaurant in another part of town... Congratulations on your success, but you probably need to keep a closer eye on this one. Our actual server Jenny was friendly and tried to be helpful. No, I would never return.

We have eaten here many times, and at Toyo before they merged. The sushi is always fresh and they have an excellent menu with lots of special rolls. Service is adequate but not exceptional. My only problem is the noise level. The music is blasting and when it is crowded, which it often is, it is so loud inside that normal conversation is nearly impossible. I'll still get take out from here, but I'm looking for a new sushi restaurant where I don't leave with ringing ears and a throat sore from shouting.

ahhh, maybe 3.5. wasnt blown away, but i dont feel sick! they have a pretty cool front porch, good for people watching, that is, if there isnt a hurricane happening. prices are indicative for the area. i had two tuna maki and a sweet potato, 12 bucks, could be worse. comes with miso (didnt eat) and salad (ha!) the tea tasted way off, maybe its a ny thing... oh and service was lacking, no check in, not that i couldnt get all nu yawkie and loud if i needed too. HEY! I EATTIN OVA HERA i was recommended red plum, am i recommending it to you? sure, there are a zillion food eateries on mam k ave, so use your palate wisely

The food is fine. Not amazing, but it's ok. But the service was terrible. My reservation was for 3 people at 7PM. Exits on the highway were closed due to down trees from a storm earlier that day - and they were closed in both directions, so everyone was running late. At 7:05, the restaurant called me asking where we were. I told them the situation and they were so rude and kept asking where I was! I finally got there at 7:15, and the VERY RUDE hostess brought me to my table and asked where the rest of my party was. Again, I explained the situation with closed exits on the highway. About 5 minutes later, the manager came over and asked me where the rest of my party was! If he wanted to give the table to another party, he could have asked me to sit at the bar. I would have been ok with that. But instead he went over to the hostess and said something to her in Japanese, then she looked over at me. CLEARLY they were talking about my situation!! And all this time I was there, no one asked me for a drink. The waitress was nowhere to be found. When my friends arrived & we all ordered drinks, the waitress asked them for ID, but not me... I informed her it was rude to ask 2 out of 3 women for ID & very insulting. The rest of the meal was fine, but again, the food is nothing to write home about. Haiku a few doors down is MUCH better! We will NOT return again.

Went here a few times , service are good and the food are great. Icone here usyally for the sushi , but also try out afew dishes . Never know that they have dessert menu until last time I came here, tried out the exotic bomba. It had fruity flair that's not too strong .

If I could give this restaurant 3.5*, I would. I ate the same thing in 4 different sushi restaurants in the past 2 weeks: iced tea, avocado salad and 4 pieces of salmon sushi. The dressing at Red Plum was my least favorite dressing of the 4 restaurants. The salmon was very fresh and high quality, The service was excellent (4:30 PM on a weekday). The bill was higher than at all or most of the other 3 sushi restaurants (which were all in Northern NJ). The waitress spoke English well. The decor was upscale for a sushi restaurant.
