Based on one gigantic take out pizza on my first night in NY in the summer of 2007. My first impression of NY will be the huge pizza we got to take out when we landed. Hubby had the phone number so as we were driving home from the airport we stopped to pick up a pizza. He failed to tell me how big it was. If I had known I'd have just ordered a slice. I'd say the pizza could feed four people but it was only for me! I had 1.5 slices and was done like dinner. I think it was $22. The joint was lively and lots of people were standing in and around the place, I loved it. My first night in New York and I was not disappointed. I'd return, but just for a slice, not the whole thing.

Hands down my favorite pizza in NY and therefore, the World. Great balance of crust to sauce to cheese. Chopped salad rocks too. All around yumminess.

The local favorite, Gino's is a solid slice. The NY slice is a bit on the thick side. I never understand why there are 9 guys behind the counter---are they really that busy? All the same, they're always very nice. There's a dining room in the back---nothing fancy.

If this is called a Restaurant,I dont know where to start!! I get a paper plate to eat my food, my fork and knife where just put on the tabe, Who knows how many people touched the table!!! I have tasted 10x better food-2 orders of the same food-1 plate the food is steaming hot and the other is cold as ice-How does that happen,I do not understand. Leaving this place, you do not even get a Thank You from employes-Won't see me again!

Ginos pizza is easily the best pizza in all of Long Island. I didnt say that they are known for specialty pizzas but if you are looking for a good ole' American cheese slice or pepperoni slice then Ginos is your spot! For those who want a restaurant scene instead of a pizza bar, bring the family and enjoy a nice Italian meal in the upstairs restaurant. This place has been #1 since the early 90s!!!

When I was young - this was the place to get good pizza. Now if you want oil with a side of pizza this is where you should go. If you want good pizza take the 5 minute drive to Manhasset and eat at Villa Milano on Plandome Road.

Gino's is New York pizza at it's finest. Specialty slices are awesome but in my opinion can't beat plain cheese slice. Also the salads are delish with all that cheese and shit they throw on it. If you want great NY pizza definitely hit up Gino's - you won't be disappointed.

3 stars here, but read on...i love the food, grammas pizza is incredible, and i love the gino's salad....however, the delivery charge of $2.00 prevents me from giving more than 3 stars.....

just ok pizza. the penne stuffed slice is really good but the plain slice is not worth the 2.25 that you have to pay for it. The seating is nice though and they have a varied selection of italian dishes that are usually hit or miss.

Gino's is a solid, although not great, option. I've found the counter guys to be humorous more than surly. We've called ahead for food, had delivery (for a $2 fee, boo), and ordered to go. Haven't eaten in yet. No credit cards, double boo. The food is fine. The slices from pre-made pies that you have warmed up are generally better than ordering a whole pie which is the opposite of what I've generally found. The a la vodka slice which you can get with or without pasta was the only thing I found to be crave-able. I got without the pasta and the a la vodka sauce really shone through. The dough is okay, a bit bland which is a weird sensation. The sauce is good, cheese is perfect. The heroes are large and cheesy (a good thing in my book). As the previous posters mentioned the house salad with cheese is a classic here and is delish. The delivery was fast even when we ordered many pies for a party. All in all they're consistent which is something good.

Some people don't like it, but I do. I switch off between Gino's and Francesca's depending on the mood I'm in. If you are going for plain, I recommend the sicilian. My favorite slices are the Lorenzo (broccoli rabe and portabello) and artichoke/sundried tomato (I hate sundried tomatoes yet I love this slice). They also have very tasty salad dressing (and therefore good salad and salad slice). Is the pizza overpriced? Yes, just like everywhere else in great neck. If you are eating in great neck you don't have a choice there.

  • Jackie S.

Ahhhhh Gino's...the classic Great Neck spot. Is it the best pizza in town? No. Is it the most popular? Yes. Look, it's your standard pizzeria, so don't expect extravagance. Everyone in town knows Gino's, and I've been coming here for over 15 years. The pizza is good, their house salad with cheese is a staple in every Great Necker's diet, and the other foods they have are standard (chicken parm, calzones, etc.). They're fast, they're friendly, and if you want a sit-down dining experience, you can go to the "nicer" part of the restaurant upstairs but mind you, the prices there are slightly higher. In this town, families come here for generations. It's a family spot, it's a high school hangout, and it's a quick fix for any pizza or Italian cravings at a good price.

  • Garrett R.

Everything about this place was average. Including the 10$ minimum for credit cards. Had a hard time understanding the guys when ordering and paying.

Best slices in town! Great buffalo, alla vodka pizza, salad pizza and sicilian. The once made a slice with eggplant mozz and roasted pepper that I wish they would bring back!

  • Joshua Y.

Love this place, maybe it's because I grew up here but I think their pizza is great! And everybody loves a Gino's salad. Best salad dressing ever, I hate that they charge 50 cents for the smallest cup ever it is ridiculous. They have be kind of abrasive so only having 3 stars overall is not a surprise.

    (4)
  • Tim S.

Not being from New York and visiting Great Neck, I thought I might get real NY pizza. It is not, the crust was rather thick but adequate. It wasn't greasy but also rather mundane. The sauce was bland, cheese average and toppings skimpy.

  • I Give A.

Literally the best place to eat in great neck. Pretty good food but all the other restaurants in great neck are rather abhorrent. IMO best plain slice you can get. Dont be fooled by my three stars, its still very good pizza, just not nearly the best.

  • Gary D.

Great food, pizzas taste good, sandwiches are good, and pasta also. My favorite is the penne alla vodka pizza. They also give military & firefighters a discount.

Pizza is good. Ceaser salad sucked. $7.50 for soft lettuce and barely any dressing. Learned my lesson only order pizza for now on.

I've been coming to Ginos for years because their pizza is seriously amazing. Their white pizza is the ultimate cheese lover's dream

Gino's has the Brooklyn old style family feel with welcoming staff and always changing specials menu - it's great for kids as well as in general when you want good food at a good price - the atmosphere is noisy but Ina home type of way - The fish dishes are usually done right - however they have a tendency to make pizza of all types well done - which is fine if you like well done pizza with browned cheese - if not remember to always tell them "make it light" and it's perfect!! They even carry Williamsburg Brooklyn soda "Manhattan Special" as well as Dr Browns sodas - The salads are good as are the specialty Italian pasta dishes - the sauce is tasty but borders on watery - just tell them to drain the pasta well and it's a good consistency-

    (4)
  • Tiffany B.

Hands down best pizza! I love coming here - the food and service are both great! Even though I don't live in great neck, I'd prefer to travel here than to go one of the pizzerias in my town.

  • Jack F.

The pizza was acceptable , I wouldn't go as far as trying to compare it to brooklyn pizza. Not even close to Brooklyn pizza , but there is an Italian speaking man behind the counter so I can see where the atmosphere may have that Brooklyn feel. I can't say the pizza was bad , I can't say I walked out of there smacking my lips and missing the pizza when it was gone . I can't see myself craving for a slice either . Maybe I'm spoiled on lip smacking tasty miss it when it's gone pizza from my Brooklyn childhood, sorry folks Gino's is a far cry from real Brooklyn pizza . But let's cut Gino a break maybe it's the water in great neck , as from what I hear the secret to tasty pizza is NYC Brooklyn water... I will say the owner is responsive and responded to my review fast , that shows a high level of caring and dedication , Paul is correct everyone's taste buds are Differ , I can't say that my slice was not hot and fresh it was for sure . His restaurant was very clean , his response to this yelp review shows me a businessman that takes pride in his work , for that reason alone next time I was in great neck I would stop by . These qualities are rare in business today .

Used to be better about 20 years ago, but now the quality and service is not as good as back in the day... Pizza is ok, but a little on the greasy side. I usually get the stuffed eggplant which is amazing.

4 stars is for the gino's salad & garlic bread. 3 stars would be for pretty much everything else, and even 2 maybe for the upstairs dining. The one time I went there in the recent past, I asked for the bread they serve downstairs (as what they were serving me upstairs was different and burned) and the waiter said they don't serve any bread downstairs. While I didn't call the pizza bread by name, the waiter insisted I was incorrect and never replaced the bread. The rest of the meal followed suit and was mediocre. Stick to the Gino's salad and you're in for a treat.

  • Neil C.

I first tried Gino's 13 years ago and was not at all impressed. In fact, I thought the pizza was pretty bad (the crust was like cardboard) and I couldn't figure out what the big deal was about this place. As a result, for years, we went to Francesca's or drove out to Villa Milano in Manhasset. Recently, we ordered a pie for friends who only eat Gino's and I was surprised at how much better the pizza was. Whatever they are doing different, it's working!

Went here for dinner last night around 6pm. When we arrived the place was pretty empty but soon filled up. The waiter came over and proceeded to take the orders of not one, but two tables ,who had arrived about10 min after we did. Next, the same waiter and another served bread to all the new tables, skipped us, and when we asked for bread he said he was sorry but he was busy which is why he did not bring it to us at first. He was sending bus boys to serve bread to the other tables so i am not sure what his load of work had to do with bringing a basket of bread when we had been sitting there for a good amount of time before anyone had arrived. The pizza overall was average and decently priced but definitely not worth the poor service. P.S anyone who says thie pizza here is the best they've ever had really needs to do some exploring!

Please open a location in NYC!! The salad is A+ and renowned all over NYC. The pizza cheese on top is a great touch. The complimentary hot bread is delicious too. The grandma slice is another favorite. Can't go wrong with the chicken roll.

Gino's is pretty good, but I find that there are other good pizza places in Great Neck. I like this place because of its atmosphere, that they are welcoming and you might know someone there, since it is so popular. They are a bit pricey... They are open very late at night, so make sure to stop by whenever... I do like their ziti pizza, but it is a bit expensive. I don't really like their baked ziti on its own because of the weird cheese pairing. I enjoy their pasta dishes. Their calamari is to die for! Service is a bit iffy, especially upstairs. They didn't really know the menu well and they were a bit slow. Their soups are good. Try it here, but I am not a big fan.

If you're looking for pizza in great neck, avoid Gino's at all costs; there are tons of other pizzerias in town, and each of them are not as mediocre as Gino's. It really gives a bad name to all the other Gino's out there. The pizza tends to always be a mess, it's expensive and tastes like cafeteria pizza; it's almost as if they put NO effort into making it better, and the idiots who go there continue to support this poor excuse of an italian restaurant. You're better off going to Mario's or Michaelangelos or anywhere else, and please, do NOT go to Gino's (of great neck). edit: I'm sure they pay Yelp off for better reviews, they took down my review (posted in 2010) for this place.

Gino's. Great Neck institution. Best pizza in this area. By far. And over the last several years, fantastic pasta and salads.

  • Joshua Z.

Great pizza place, Ive been coming here since I was a kid. Their more upscale restaurant upstairs is also pretty good for soup, pasta and chicken dishes. I just really hate how crowded this place gets. Also I wish they would forego the table service for a pizza joint. I like the pizza I just avoid staying and eating, better place for takeout.

    (3)
  • Brittany R.

Good pizza, good pasta, good service. I used to eat here all the time but always downstairs. I just ate here the other night in the upstairs dining room for the dinner specials. lots of food for a good price. if only i didnt eat an entire bread basket worth of bread before my meal came...womp. I have been to many italian restaurants though and i wouldnt say this is my favorite, which is why they only get 4 stars.

    (4)
  • Juliette M.

Gino's should honestly have 5 stars, I'm kind of confused that it doesn't. This is SUCH a Great Neck staple and to this day this is the best pizza I've ever had (discounting pizza in Italy. This is the best 'NY slice'.) The salad is also fantastic and has been at every birthday party I've attended as long as I can remember. The 5 stars isn't for the decor or anything - this is a down home local pizzeria, it's for the food and fact that this is THE place to go.

    (5)
  • Kathy G.

I'm a regular here and it's one of my favorite Italian spots in the neighborhood! Foods always fresh and I recommend the lentil soup and Gino's salad with chicken! The one downside is they are not so generous on their salad dressing for take out which can take away from the enjoyment of the salad due to lack of dressing and flavor.

  • Ariel C.

By far best pizza, salads, calzones, pastas etc. in town. It has a really fun homey atmosphere and the people that work here are real New Yorkers who cars what they are serving you. I would really recommend this to anyone who enjoys great authentic NY style pizza and Italian food

Best pizza in Great Neck, without a doubt. And I know my pizza. That said, they don't have a lot of competition with all the kosher fake pizza around town.

  • Gavriel K.

The first time you go to Gino's make sure you get a fresh out of the oven regular slice. If you are dining alone and this requires ordering an entire pie of pizza, my advice remains the same. Follow my advice, and your first slice will be the best regular slice of pizza you have in your life. Next time, you might want to experiment with specialty slices, of which Gino's has many; try either a meatball slice or a grandma slice, both of which are quite good. Additionally, the Gino's salad will never dissappoint, as long as you get it chopped and with cheese. You can also ask for goat cheese instead of the typical mozzerella. The service at Gino's is quite good. If you sit upstairs, your experience will be more private and the service will be slower. However, it will have a more classic Italian feel. I wouldn't bother getting coffee, but a tartufo can make a nice dessert. Gino's is also well priced and has a tasty selection of soups. Lastly, Gino's is centrally located in the town of Great Neck and its reputation has made it a for profit monument to the westmost jewel of Long Island's north shore.

Great little place! Eggplant Parm was very tasty!

  • Julia M.

Really really nice fun people! Pizza is so delicious and their cheese salad is so classic and amazing! I have trouble choosing between their pizza, garlic nuts, salad and their penne or baked ziti- So I usually get them all and invite friends over to help me! Its been around for as long as I can remember and way before that too!

    (5)
  • David C.

Good Chicken or Veal Parmigiana, pretty good pizza and reasonable prices. Really cocky front of the house staff but sweet waitstaff. Sit down and order from them.

    (3)
  • Janet K.

I take my kids here all the time and they love it! The service could be a little better, but when I find food my kids will eat, I'll take it. The cheese salad is great, my kids love to finger-eat the cheese off it. That's one of my usual orders. Also, you can't visit Great neck and not get a slice of cheese pizza from Gino's, there's a history behind it. Classic cheese slices always taste like home to me.

    (4)
  • Dave N.

Despite the 3 star review average on Yelp, this place has a popular and great reputation and its easy to see why. Their cheese and grandma slice is one of the best you can find on the island (and even in Brooklyn / NYC).

  • Jessica H.

what to get: gino's cheese salad with house dressing - DELICIOUS!! i haven't lived in great neck for over a decade and I still have cravings for this salad. my favorite pizza slices - regular, granny, white

    (4)
  • John F.

Ok. Nothing special. However, Gino's is probably the best pizza/hero option in Great Neck (which isn't saying a lot). Can't say much about the service, as my firm always takes-out pizza or heroes. Slightly overpriced as well. Consistenly mediocre. Not much else to say, I guess.

    (2)
  • Jackie C.

Gino's used to have the best calzones ever. Now, I don't want why they've changed it, but it's gross. The ricotta cheese is old and dry, The mozzarella cheese is a sad portion. The crust was great, but everything seemed stale and old. I hope this was just a one time fluke.

    (2)
  • Amy C.

there's a wide variety of slices and their salad is amazing. probably one of the better pizza places in great neck but they are a little pricey. if you're going to dine in its better to do it in a group because then you wont mind waiting for the food

    (4)
  • Ranjelle J.

I haven't tried the other pizzas, but the Grandma pizza of Gino's is probably the best pizza I have ever eaten. The crust is chewy, compare to other pizzas from other establishments. It's really good.

    (4)
  • Andi W.

I love Gino's. I grew up eating here and it never gets old!! Grandma Slices, pepperoni rolls, house salad with cheese (chopped), and everything in between. There is always something here for any mood! Love it and crave it when I am not home.

3 and 1/2 stars to this...place? Are you fucking kidding me?! I guess if your idea of good pizza is pre-made frozen crap, or biohazardous toxic waste, then yes, Gino's makes something not quite as toxic...but just barely. VH and I happened to get two slices of Sicilian and garlic knots at this place, simply because everything else on this "secluded" street in Great Neck was closed (on a Friday night, at 8:30 PM...). It was either Gino's or Starbucks. So we gave Gino's a try. Let me just say this: the food tastes exactly what you expect it to taste like by the way this place looks. Enough said. Jesus...

  • Darwin G.

This is "THE" pizza establishment of Great Neck, but I must dissent. Their pizza is greasy and mediocre. Their salads are pretty weird. I'm pretty sure it's more like shredded cheese served with a little bit of lettuce.

    (2)
  • Peter L.

Dependable New York pizza. When you think of 'typical' New York pizza Gino's fits the bill. It is dependable (though some times delivery arrives with the cheese mangled across the pie as if they didn't take any care in driving it over) and pretty good tasting, though a bit too greasy. My kids love it so for that reason alone it is our go to place. Other dishes are pretty good and get the job done, but again they are cookie cutter and much of it is not made fresh.

    (3)
  • Zach D.

Gino's can be very hit or miss. Some days you will get some of the best pizza available in great neck, others it may be a bit dry and not quite up to par. When it comes down to it, I definitely prefer Gino's over some of the other "staples," excluding Francesca's. However, as I have been going to Gino's since I've been in grade school, I must say that I do have some sort of a connection with them. When it comes down to it, I do recommend Gino's. Their pizza is cheesy and their sauce is smooth. Just make sure you get it warm, as it loses almost all of its appeal when the cheese hardens up a bit.

    (4)
  • Andy B.

Nice atmosphere. It is hard to find good pizza in Great Neck since the clientele has changed considerably in all of Great Neck itself.

  • Vivian H.

I aint no pizza expert, but since I grew up in the good old US of A, I have had my fair share of pizzas and I think I can form an intelligent opinion on pizzas. This place was MEDIOCRE. It is not the best pizza I have ever had, and really it was not so memorable. If you think this place makes great pizza, then likely you have been deprived most of your life. We were trying to grab a quick bite before catching a movie, this place was one of the only places open since it was the Jewish New Year. We were reluctant and gave it a shot. Not much to our surprise, the pizza was blah. Desperate times calls for desperate measures.

READ THIS BEFORE GOING! Ordered two pizzas from Gino's today. One grandma pie and one regular pie. Any decent pizza joint knows a grandma pie is made up of tomato sauce, fresh mozz, and basil. Their grandma has no fresh mozz or basil. It's a joke. Their regular pie had a nice long black hair on it. Needless to say, my office, who ordered the pie was highly upset. BUT IT GETS BETTER! We called Ginos and explained the grandma pie was not a grandma pie, and there was a hair in the other pie. Did they apologize? NO! They even said "we will send you over another pie, but if you want fresh mozz, we will charge you." We told them not to bother and that we will not be ordering from them again. The owner said the following, "we don't care if you never order from here again...we are the best pizza on long island." Their response says it all. They are DISGUSTING and deserve to go out of business.

Years ago I would have rated Gino's Pizza (PIZZA ONLY) as a 3.5-4 star pizza. Today Id say its about a 2 star. Its really nothing special. They have a name, and a strong foundation of followers, they have been in business for over 35 yrs. Great Neck does not have many Pizza options, and the options that the tiny town does have are terrible anyway.

This pizza is really, really good. Ignore the surly counter guys and order yourself a regular cheese slice. You will overhear some hilarious conversations here from spoiled Great Neck socialites. Embrace it. Some of us had to live with it for 18 years. The Gino's cheese salad is also delicious and comes topped with the same yummy cheese from the pizzas. Good for slightly lighter fare. DELIVERY: To Great Neck.

If you ever find yourself hungry and in Great Neck, you can't do any better than having a slice or two at Gino's. This no-nonsense pizzeria is a Great Neck institution and stacks up with the best 'za in the city as well. For me, I love the Gino's sauce. It almost tastes like it's from Chinese food, though I know that sounds gross and insane. Don't let it deter you -- the sauce is tomato-based and always consistent. This is very good pizza.

What is wrong with those who give this place a rave review? I was starving after I had pretty much lived at the airport for a day on my way to NYC. This place was in that "Village" (I.E. A haven for rude and obnoxious Jew-Talians) down the street from my hotel. I wasn't in the mood for sushi or just plain ol' ice cream/frozen yogurt and I was too tired and exhausted from traveling all day to venture elsewhere. After seeing two other shops containing mediocre looking slices of pizza, I stopped by the third, hoping for something special, and it turned out to be the same crappy, mediocre looking pizza as the other places. The slices looked like they had been sitting around for hours, and if there was less than half a pie left it was haphazardly placed on another pie sheet. I asked for a cheese slice. It was placed on a plate because the guy behind the counter thought I wanted to eat it at the restaurant. When I told him I wanted it to go he then grabs a white bag and proceeds to place it in there. Umm, IT'S A SLICE OF PIZZA, WHO DOES THAT? I tell him to place it in a box and he gets all pissed off with me but obliges. I mean, really dude? I don't want cheese and sauce that should be on the pizza all over the bag, and I'm not understanding why anyone else would be fine with that? The pizza tasted as mediocre as it looked, and my mouth started hurting from chewing on garlic knots as hard as a rock. It was $3.85. That was $2 and 85 cents too much. I grew up in Las Vegas, so I'm pretty sure I don't know pizza (seeking to change that however), and yet even I found this barely edible. I find it quite shocking that people who live in LONG FUCKIN' ISLAND (which is, you know, next to NYC) think this place is something special or even worth it at all. No thanks.

3.5 stars... raised to 4 based on nostalgia. I've been coming to Gino's since I was in kindergarten and the pizza cost $1.10 a slice. Since then, not much has changed--except the price. A slice is what, $2.25 now? But that's par for the course in New York these days. Gino's food is solid. The regular slices are good, not great. The grandma's slices ... the best ever. I've never had a bad slice here, but I've had some that were just okay--see what looks good that day and go for it. The decor downstairs is unimpressive; there are always a billion guys behind the counter, and they are really nice guys. The clientele is typical Great Neck. If you're going for something fancier, upstairs has more of a typical Italian restaurant feel, with prices to match. If you want pizza in Great Neck, Gino's will not disappoint.

just had Gino's pizza for the very first time. I have to admit coming from brooklyn...it doesn't get any better than this!!! Gino's Pizza is great. It was fresh, and the crust was just perfect. I will definitely be back.
