I dont like sushi, but my bro does, his check so I went :-) I got the teryaki beef, which was good, but I didnt care for the salad nor the miso soup. The place itself was ok, the booths too small, and watch the step... oh, thanks for the warnings all over! The prices were low, and thankfuly no muzak nor tv was on. Overall, if you like sushi, go there.

Just tried to call to place an order for pick up. I asked one question prior to placing my order and received the RUDEST response EVER. Honestly screw this place, there's better sushi in the area. YOUR STAFF IS FU*KING RUDE! They need to change their attitude. I would give zero stars if I could. F you guys. I'll make sure to let my friends know NOT to take their business here. Disgusting staff.

The best Japanese place Ive eaten in The USA so far, and extremely cheap. I Had three rolls. Tuna, Salmon and Salmon Tempura, they were just amazing. I wanna come back ASAP!

  • Karina S.

I used to go here all the time, I live very close by and it was convenient for delivery as well. Last three times (was hoping third time would be a charm) the sushi was just not good. I don't know what it was about it but it just tasted different and bland! Not sure if they changed management or what happened but I am extremely disappointed!

You can't go wrong with $2.50 rolls! I don't eat sashimi so I can't really say how fresh that is. But out of the sushi rolls with fish, I only get spicy tuna, spicy salmon or spicy yellowtail and it tastes pretty fresh to me. Their tempura rolls are also really good (get the chicken!). I usually order three rolls but am stuffed by the time I finish about two. I left out one star because I ordered takeout once and asked for spicy mayo and they tried to charge me a dollar for it! That is not okay especially when that's about half the price of a roll. But yet they don't charge if you're eating in. Weird. But still, I always go here and intend to keep coming back!

Really good service and amazing rolls. I don't have a lot of time to dine out,but whenever I have some free time,I prefer this place to get some yummy delicious rolls. My favorite appetizer is fried unagi, which is melting in your mouth like a heaven! I highly recommend to go there and get some yummies for your tummy :))

Nice and quick, neighborhood sushi! Prices are great and the cuts of fish were fresh!

Such terrible service. I ate here once, and I refuse to ever come back again. This place reeks of spoiled meat and that made me lose my appetite. I asked the waitress to bring me some tea, she never came back. Don't come here unless you want to sit in a place reeking of effluvia!

This particular Chikurin happens to be the closest where I live now, so I will go with friends if we don't feel like cooking or got stuck at work late. I found the one on Kings Highway, which isn't terribly far, to be better - food and ambiance-wise. They have great sushi, and their fried rice is also pretty good, though not really worth the price (Ten bucks. For fried rice.) The staff is always friendly, and my take-out food is always right on time, so that's a big plus for reliability.

The 50% off sushi sign outside is a little scary. I want $1 slices of pizza, not raw fish. But like Gloria C. says, don't let it frighten you away! The bacon yakitori app was basically the tastiest thing I've ever had the pleasure of eating in my life. I could have eaten those sweet saucy bacon wrapped pork bites for every meal for eternity. Sushi was cheap and there are sooo many special rolls to choose from, it's almost daunting. Kind of like a diner menu with so many pages. I loved everything I got and they were very accommodating about adding avocado and making substitutions. I'll be back!

  • Natalie K.

I ate there twice and both times were disappointing... I'm sorry, I love sushi but do not need to smell fish as I walk into a restaurant. As you walk in, there is a strong stench. Fresh fish does not have that type of odor.

    (2)
  • Ammu K.

At first, the 50% off sign kind of put us off, we weren't sure what we would find in a place like that. But of course, being a Yelper, I yelped it and liked what I read. This place is so freakin' affordable with fresh great tasting sushi. Everything was good, service is fast and with the prices being what they are, you will keep wanting to order more. Try the spicy salmon roll with tempura flakes...TO.DIE.FOR! Definitely plan on making this place a regular spot, since we basically live across the street from it. Great food, no wait, awesome prices. This place is for the low-maintenance types. Don't expect them to notice a spot on the cup or remember to check in on you. Go there for the food and bring friends to enjoy it with.

Normally I try to visit a place a few times before reviewing, but I don't think my opinion will change about this one. If their fish was better on a different day, it would not affect my overall opinion because spotty quality is a no-no. Yeah, the price was right, but I don't consider it money well spent. I was seriously disappointed with the salmon sushi flavor and texture. The creamy quality I look forward to was missing. The salmon was mushy and excessively salty. The saltiness masked any nuance of personality the fish might have had, and so there was none of the mouth pleasure I had expected. Quite a let-down considering other reviews. The service was impersonal but adequate. While it was difficult to get a server's attention, they did not make mistakes.

  • J B.

I ordered for delivery and they got it to me in about 20-30 minutes which is great because I ordered a lot. They also deliver it by car. It was all vegetable rolls and all were great. The only thing is they always mess up on the avacado/asparagus part. I get Avocado when I say asparagus and asparagus when I say Avocado. It's okay, will still order from here.

  • Josh V.

First time was good. Second time not so much. If you don't mind poor service in an empty restaurant and decent but not amazing sushi at a pretty good price check it out. If not then move on.

    (3)
  • Neil B.

I've eaten sushi and sashimi here a few times over the years and found it to be good for the price. Service likewise was average as was the saki. Considering the reasonable prices - 3.5. A-OK but don't expect nirvana!

  • Bunny C.

Cheap, good quality food. Good portions. However, staff takes a while to get to you and the food takes longer than it should to arrive at your table if you're dining in. They seem to prioritize preparing take-out orders over in-house ones.

Okay, after reading an assortment of mixed reviews on this place, I kept on searching other japanese restaurants and continued to see this places' name popping up in various reviews of other places, where patrons stated they preferred this Chikurin over the rest that they were actually reviewing. So, I decided to give it a shot, even though the actual reviews for this place, weren't so impressive. First things first.... I ordered the teriyaki chicken lunch special, which includes rice and your choice of soup or salad. Being that it is still pretty hot outside, I requested all salad instead of soup. I am SO GLAD that they did NOT put the dressing on the salad, and put it in a ramekin on the side, bc it didn't even LOOK appetizing. So when I did a dab test, before dumping it all over my salad, it tasted as disgusting as it looked! I'm not even sure WHAT kind of dressing it is, other then off white-ish in color and disgusting. It is DEFINITELY NOT the amazing ginger dressing that usually comes with japanese food... I mean that was the first thing that caught my eye, it looked like old mayo or maybe a tapioca pudding to be honest. ICK! It wasn't the normal beloved orange colored ginger dressing that apparently every other japanese spot serves except this one. As for the Chicken Teriyaki, I suppose it wasn't too bad. definitely not the best I've ever had, but decent for the price I paid... again another place that uses the sesame seeds in with it though, people really need to start including the ingredients so that we know to ask for it without, but other then that... the sauce was actually pretty tasty....and since the cabbage the chicken was laid on was also covered in the teri sauce, it was also pretty good. My boss ordered the seafood soup and said that it was "Good, Not bad, not bad at all" lol..... I will personally never order it bc I'm allergic to shrimp so I never take my chances with stuff that says "Seafood" but he seemed to really enjoy it, and for the $5 he paid, when I pulled it out of the bag, was a gigantic portion. I would be confident in saying, if you were splitting a meal, you could also split the single order of soup. It was like 2 of those plastic containers you get chinese soup in... Will I ever order from here again? If I do, it will only be because it's cheap and bc my boss is going to order soup, as they have a $10 minimum to deliver so it'd be someplace I wouldn't have to spend alot to get them to bring it. I can honestly tell you my decision for this, is because of HOW AWFUL the dressing for the salad was. Maybe you have to request ginger dressing specially? or maybe they don't have it.. whatever it was... that is what I was really craving more then anything, and my tastebuds have not been satisfied! -__-

Let me first start by saying. Yum! And what is with that 1/2 hour wait for the noodle bowl comment in a previous review? That is severely in-accurate! My first experience with the food from this place was a complete and unplanned accident. I actually went over there to the Department of Education which is across the street from Chikurin. So when we left and was waiting for our bus to go back to our house, my son asked me to get him sushi. ( I guess he noticed the 50% off Sushi sign). So i walked over to look at the menu. Most of their classic rolls start at $2.50. So my boy got himself some California rolls. I have to say they were really good. After a couple of weeks we decided to go for dinner, and our experience was nothing like the previous bad reviews. In fact we've been back twice. We tried various appetizers, the noodles and the sushi, all on different nights and all really good every time. The price is right too. I suggest trying it for yourself if you are in the neighborhood and you will see that the wait is certainly NOT 1/2 hr. p.s All our dinner's there were on Monday nights and almost all the booths were filled with diners.

After returning to this restaurant for the second time, I decided to take my rating down a notch. I guess that's why it's so important that you visit a restaurant more then once before you write a review. Unless of course, the restaurant is THAT bad. At any rate, upon the second visit I realized exactly what it is that I don't like about this that place. The sushi rolls are just TOO BIG! You can barely use chop sticks to eat the rolls as they fall apart as soon as you pick them up. The flavors are not too bad & the prices are reasonable but the amount of rice in the rolls is ridiculous. Also, service is slow. I know it's not often that people complain about having too much food. However, when you are eating food that requires chop sticks you want to be able to pick up the food without it breaking into pieces every single time. It's just sushi roll 101.

The sushi and the chicken teriyaki are so awesome that I am ready to forgive the occasionally slow and unfriendly staff.

I have ordered take out from here well over 100 times. This place is fantastic, quick delivery, friendly, great food, and good prices. I've eaten inside twice, and the atmosphere is really nice, quiet and dim lights. Highly recommended.

I came here with a party of four at the booths. Our bill came to $37 with tax and tip, for seven classic and speciality sushi rolls. The spicy tuna was high on the list, rainbow roll was yummy. On the average side were the CA rolls. We ordered the Philly roll and the Brooklyn roll (LOL!), both were good. The surprising eel and cream cheese roll was also good. Service was OK, the price can't be beaten in NYC!

D.I.S.G.U.S.T. And that doesn't even BEGIN to cover my take out experience with this place. Chikurin's left me with fear and loathing in Brooklyn - and wondering if I'll ever be able to trust a sushi spot anywhere outside of downtown Brooklyn or Manhattan again. My boyfriend and I, opting to spend a quiet night at home and hankering for light Japanese fare, browsed Grub Hub by rating for nearby locations and Chikurin was near the top of the list. The menu seemed decent so we ordered away: miso soup, an alaskan roll, a scallop roll, a pair of yellow tail Rolls, rock shrimp, and bacon yakitori. Simple, no? Tap tap! on ye olde iPhone, and we were expectant of prompt deliciousness. Right? WRONG. We placed our order at 9:17PM, and Grub Hub said that our estimated delivery time was 10:07PM. A bit of a wait, but for promise of good food, I find my patience extended. 10:07 came and went - and the doorbell didn't herald delivery until 10:36PM. My boyfriend went to pay for the food, at which point the deliveryman proceeded to argue with my boyfriend over the tip. 'C'mon, man, I came all the way from Ocean Ave.' 'All the way?' ...Google maps says 8 minutes - 11 in traffic. You're a half hour late. So instead of what you were going to get for tip, you now get nothing. G'night. We settled in, opened the containers, and everything was neatly packed, pristine, and the rolls were prettily presented. I noted that the yellowtail had a slightly off color (tan to brownish), and, rather than minced, was a solid block tucked in with chopped scallion. After popping one into my mouth, found that it tasted off. After a second one, that was confirmed. I moved on to a piece of the scallop roll, and immediately spat it out after biting - the scallop was slimy with an metallic and off tinge. I held out hope for the salmon, which was the right color and had been chopped before being wrapped in its rice blanket - only to feel rage settle in as I tasted the distinct flavor of SMOKED SALMON (and not even quality!)mixed in with raw chopped filet. I don't know if they cater to those with kosher diets - and even if this is so I resent my sushi being 'watered down' with cheap product. My boyfriend's summarily soggy shrimp capped the meal, with the yakitori being the only saving grace - if only it'd arrived warm . Will NOT be ordering from here again, after this have NO desire to visit their location, and HIGHLY advise for anyone else to avoid their takeout at all costs. China Tokyo is a much better bang for your buck.

All was well until I came here with two friends a few weeks after Hurricane Sandy...to my horror, my Boston roll had PLASTIC in it...the type of plastic that holds tags on clothing items. Yes, my meal was free that day, but I haven't stepped into that place since. Sticking to the Chikurin on Ave Z for now...

This is probably the worst sushi I've ever had, I ordered through seamless this past weekend looking for a quick lunch. I ordered 2 maki rolls this past weekend and the rice tasted like it was cooked prepped and frozen days earlier, the sashimi was slightly better but you can tell the fish was a couple of days old also. The best thing about sushi is the freshness of it and this just tasted gross. I've been eating sushi for years and I know that Midwood is not the best place for sushi but even for Midwood standards this was not good. I ended up throwing my entire meal in the garbage.

I've been a regular to this place since 2000. back then it was still called Nanatori. The sushi is really cheap and all of their food tastes great. I recommend going with company, it will make for a better time. When arriving, the best paces are to sit in are the booths or the private rooms which have a 50 dollar limit. Sitting at the middle tables is not that fun, you see everyone and everyone sees you as well as the staff constantly walking by and some tables have poor lighting. Over the years the waiters have changed for the better and all services are good and they also have free delivery and pick up, as well as pre-order before you go there. I personally enjoy their lunch specials because there worth your buck. A meal with rice, salad and miso soup. I personally recommend their Chicken Maki and Tonkatsu, they come with Japanese mayo which tastes really yummy. The rolls are really good, eel and avocado, Philadelphia and others. Every time I go there I try something new, so don't be afraid of its name, It might end up being your favorite meal. They also have yummy deserts, everything from green tea ice cream to tempura ice cream and fruit assortments.

Great service! This place is bigger than most sushi places. I like their booth seats. It didn't take too long to get my orders on my table, so that's good! The sashimi was fresh and generous in size. And of course, they do have the $1 piece sushi/sashimi. Their appetizers are good too. Green Seaweed Salad was pretty generous too. The Seafood Dynamite is also very good and interesting. I love the fact that they have Eel, avocado and cream cheese roll on the menu. Usually restaurants only have Eel cucumber roll OR Eel avocado roll, and you would have to special request the cream cheese to be added in, and you wouldn't know the price until you ask the server. Combination Yakisoba- pretty decent. I ordered a few times, and there was one time where it was a little too salty, I guess the cook put a little too much soy sauce. But other than that, Yakisoba is good! Bottom line: I will continue to go to Chikurin on Ocean Avenue, because they are that good!

I ordered the salmon sashimi and one rainbow roll. Delicious. The fish had a tenderness and a great flavor. I highly recommend it. I love it there. This is the one in Kings Highway. Please go. It's just great service, nice bathroom, not a long wait, and a small cozy nook to travel to. I like the experience, but there were loud college students talking it up which made it hard for me to hear my friend. The waitress were nice and patient.

Maybe it was an off day, but maybe not. I came here for lunch on a Wednesday, and the sushi here was not fresh. It had a weird rubbery texture to it, and almost seemed like it was lightly dusted in a powder. One of my hamachi sushi pieces even had a scale on it. The tuna sushi was especially bad, and I ended up leaving all 3 pieces on my plate. For me to not finish my entire plate of sushi is not normal, and says a lot about what I thought of the sushi here. Because the lunch specials were a pretty good deal, I ordered a roll in addition to my sushi combo. Surprisingly, the roll was actually the tastiest part of my entire meal. For all you sushi lovers out there, you know when the rolls taste better than the sushi, that's not a good sign of a true sushi place, where the more authentic it is, the less likely they are to even serve rolls.

I used to frequent Chikurin when it was called Nanatori.( previous owners) Back then Nanatori was the prime spot for sushi. When the new owners took over this restaurant, they did a moderate renovation and began charging 1/2 price sushi. In the beginning, their sushis were a bit shaky. The Spicy tuna was runny and not mixed very well. Their california and their philidelphia roll was also something to be desired. But what a difference three years make. This Japanese restaurant has become one of the best sushi spots in Brooklyn! All their rolls are on the money especially their dragon roll and their fried crab roll. They also have a very nice salmon Bento box. It comes with a nice serving of broiled salmon with soup, salad, one order choice of roll and even fried shrimp tempura. While the staff is very attentive and quite the busy bees( they are usually running from one side of the kitchen to the other) they are not really classical waiters or waitressess I gather. But their lack of training is more than made up by their enthusiasm. They also have different sized Tatami rooms for private affairs but you must order a small minimum. This reasonably priced Japanese restaurant (an oxymoran) is a spot not to be missed.

Found the 2nd Chikurin and tried it at this location. Also is absolutely delicious. Love the same type of rolls: Dynamite, eel avocado rolls. Spicy salmon is also great. I have to say the rolls were perfect a few years ago but recently the quality is less perfect but is still great compared to other sushi restaurants elsewhere in NYC and NJ and Brooklyn. Depending where I go I pickup Chikurin sushi to go. I also eat in when time permits.

I love this place! I live within walking distance and this is the place I take my friends whenever they're in the neighborhood. Everything is reasonably priced and the menu is absolutely huge. The restaurant itself is also a decent size and I've never had to wait for a table. There are several private rooms available but I think they require a minimum of 6 in a group in order to get a private table. They also deliver with a minimum purchase of $10. Portions are large and I always leave with leftovers enough for another meal. I'm not sure who owns the restaurant but most of the staff is Chinese. (Taishunese, to be exact.)

  • Marina E.

I live across the street from this place and once upon a time I actually thought the sushi here wasn't bad. It's a bit of a hit or miss kinda spot but in the last 3 years it's been not hitting. The quality of fish is less than mediocre. sometimes it's out-rightly gross. The miso soup is acceptable and some tempura and fried rolls are delicious since all the batter and oil kills up the seafoody flavor. Though once in a while i thoroughly enjoy their dynamite roll, I've seen it served with old tuna that was slightly green tinted. I addressed this issue and they gave me my money back. So the service is A-ok, but simply put, you get what you pay for.

  • Daniel B.

The staff are mostly Southern Chinese, but the sushi is good according to those with me who actually eat sushi. I, on the other hand, don't like sushi that much, but had a really good time. The ambience was nice and there were a decent amount of non-sushi dishes (I had the beef yakisoba, which was good).

Sushi was delicious! The prices are amazing. I would definitely recommend to to a friend the fried ice cream was good. The service was prompt and friendly and the atmosphere was lad back and relax and fill up on sushi and the pork dumplings! $2.50 rolls, Need I say more.

When you think of sushi and you live in Midwood--you just can't get any happier than thinking of Chikurin. The menu list is endless, some of the stuff I even think is made up--but in a good way. Being Mexican, it all looks made up to me--wanna know a secret? They will even prepare specialty sushi rolls that aren't on the menu, how great is that? This place always has great customer service and if you ever want to order out--it's like their delivery guys have wings--I swear, by the time you hang up the phone--there's a knock at the door. The food is amazing and at a fantastic price. It just doesn't get any better than this.

i am a true regular here. the price, taste, and service is here. sometimes you won't be served for a while but the norm here is always a wait a for your sushi. my favorites to order here are spicy lobster salad (if you dont mind wasabi and you enjoy kani salad, this takes it up a notch and you wont ever return to kani salad). red devil roll is the ONLY roll i've ever had hot, melted, and rice-less. it is so deliciously amazingly satisfying. its basically white fish(cooked) wrapped around seaweed and eel with avocado and mayo and the caviar. baked. delicious!!! must try! i also love the salmon sashimi/sushi, eels, sweet potato roll. these are all the things i truly order every single time i'm here. i probably eat here or order take out from here on a weekly /monthly basis. the tea is awesome as well as the slushies. the alcoholic drinks not so much. love this place!

Pretty good for the price. If you're looking for something low key, tasty, and with decent service, this is it. It's $2.50 (and up) sushi rolls that doesn't taste like crap hence the 3 star rating. If I paid standard roll prices here then this place would have a lower rating. The tempura is pretty good here as well.

Basically growing up a block from this place meant that I'd grow up on their food. For as long as I've been going here (almost ten years!) they pretty much have the same two servers that I love oh so much. Their food is so good and its quick! Cheap, quick sushi is always on the top of my list. From after-school get togethers to dates to even family celebrations, this place never disappoints. Their delivery service is also fast, even faster then the Quentin road Chikurin (which is closer to my new apt, btw!).

This place is always a reliable spot whenever im visiting my girlfriend in brooklyn. the sushi is cheap, cheap, cheap and actually very good. they offer a wide variety of sushi and other dishes. the passion fruit slush is really good, try the garden salad with creamy dressing, instead of ginger dressing, pork gyoza is good, i love the kani salad, get some spicy mayo on the side and some plum wine and your set....love this place!!!!

  • Becky W.

The sushi is a good deal but the service is really lacking. If you come at a busy night, you will get extremely slow service. They just do not have enough waiters for the tables. Always check your order too if you're with a family and you order many rolls - they once forgot a roll that I ordered - worst part - it came 20 minutes later...that's how busy they were I think they like to keep it in the family so they save money by just having a few waiters. The fish is acceptable (the sushi chefs are always busy (no booger picking ;) and they always seem to be filleting another fish because the orders are endless all day....) it is fresh but the quality is not something that will really stand out. Also, they are generous with the fish in their rolls, which is good in this economy... So unless you've been spoiled by other high end sushi, this is worth going back. I don't know if this Chikurin is affiliated with the one in Queens - but if I had to compare, this one is cleaner, cheaper and the fish turnover is much higher. I've never had not so fresh fish here, but I did once at the Chikurin in Queens.

The waiters would come every 2 minutes to see if we are ready to order. - where is the fire? The atmosphere it self was OK nothing special, the booths are a bit cramp to sit 4 people in. The sushi it self was just OK not as great as the other location i had sushi at. Would only go back if did not sit in a both and went with a group of friends other than that might as well do take out.

Do you want your Japanese food improperly prepared by slow and careless Chinese people? Then you'll love Chikurin. Thirty minutes for a bowl of noodles. It tasted ok and chicken was prepped well, but they filled the bowl with chopped iceberg lettuce. Not impressed. FAIL.

I purchased California rolls to go for a quick snack. It's fresh and really tasty. Prices are cheap and service is quick. I'll be back to sit in and eat. They've renovated inside which they desperately needed and it looks amazing. Nice ambiance, club/lounge vibe going on.

I discovered Chikurin on Grubhub. Used to order from another Chikurin location on Quentin road until I discovered this second location. They deliver on time if not before the estimated delivery time. The food is always fresh. Have visited the restaurant twice within the last month and planning on making it a regular visit. The dragon roll is my favorite so it's a must. The ingredients used are always fresh. I tried the ocean roll for the first time which came as a suggestion from our waitress as my mom is allergic to seafood (shellfish more specifically) and it was delicious.

Always go by this place, and from the outside it looks sketchy and who knows . There are no windows and the building is mostly baby blue painted brick and a display case outside with a few pictures. We decided to come here and give it a try since it's in the neighborhood. I was pleasantly surprised by the decor and the size of the place. It was very nice and had some cute booths for couples. The menu is enormous. It took us awhile to go through the whole thing . The sushi was good , and some are pretty creative. Some are the norm u would find at other Japanese restaurants. I wasn't in the mood for sushi much, so I ordered the tempura udon. It was so delicious and very mushroomy!! Service was not bad for an Asian restaurant. They gave me an obviously dirty cup - minus a star for that. They gave us 3 scoops for complimentary ice cream which was nice. It was pretty creamy green tea, chocolate , and vanilla ice cream. Guess appearances are deceiving. Give it a try!

I've gotten food poisoning from this Chikurin as well as their other location on Quentin Road. Stay Far Away!

I love this place. I order delivery from them all the time. Word to the wise, though: the Alaska roll has smoked salmon, not raw. But everything here is at a great price and delicious. And I lived pretty nearby so delivery is decent.

My husband loves this place and this is the household's sushi spot. I love their creative rolls and we ALL love the salmon teriyaki. The price is definitely the best part of this place. If you're looking for a cheap delicious meal, then Chikirin is definitely your spot.

I'm a regular at this place and i love the warm and friendly service as well as food. They always go the extra mile, they're very friendly and accommodating. The waiter saw us arriving with a child, and gave her an ice cream for free! My favorites are the special rolls, the green tea and the cocktails!

I love chikurin. I've been it transform from the old japanese screen doors to the new more modern booths that they have today. I really miss the way it use to be but the food is still great. The waiters and waitresses are awesome and provide great service. It seems a little sketchy from the outside but go a head and give this place a try. The food is pretty awesome for the price.

LOVE it here. One of my favorite sushi places in brooklyn. I really like the taste and the prices are really good! They just did construction so the entire place looks so different. It looks AMAZING! I really like all of the Chikurin's but I like this one the most.

This place is not what it used to be. Prior to There renovation they were good. I went there today the service is good but we asked for noodles something that we can feed our baby and the waitress recommended something and we told her its for the baby and what it ended up being is a large soup with chicken, noodles and fake seafood yuk!!!! The sushi rolls; They have a lot of special rolls on there menu when you actually try them they are not special at all. I would recommend sushi spots on Emmons avenue instead. Also They brought everything out at once the appetizers and hot entrees and sushi. The food is not fresh as well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very good sushi! Delicious and with great Service! Amazing value, beautiful re-designer interior! It's cool to come with a date or with friend.

What I liked: Great value for price in terms of food portion; Food was delivered quickly What I did not like: The entree was way too salty... I ordered the Salmon; and the Edamame didn't taste fresh Conclusion: If the food was not salty, I would have given them 4 stars. I will try them again to see if maybe the cook was just having a bad day. Stay tuned!

    * Update - They've re-done the restaurant * First - I want to mention that although they don't advertise "50% OFF" outside the restaurant, the prices are still the same, which is amazing to me, because the place looks 100x better, and the food is still tasty. I went the other day and had miso soup which was perfect, spicy tuna roll w/tempura flake which was great as well, california which is a staple, and dynamite roll which is also very good. I don't know how anyone could rate this location poorly at this point. The place looks like a fancy restaurant, your bill is a fraction of what it would be at another sushi restaurant.. I'm a big fan of this place.

Just had my first meal here since it was remodeled and wow what a big difference!! The place is beautiful, modern, and the food is fresh and delish. For a while the food was on a steep decline but I am so glad that they are back and better than ever. If you gave up on Chikurin like I have, you should give the Ave M location another shot. Definitely an improvement worth raving about on Yelp.

Absolutely astonished!!!! I have been in BK for about 4 months now and have yet to find a good sushi place that I felt comfortable with to try. I read all of the reviews on Yelp and read that they renovated and saw the new pictures and decided to give it a try. The menu was true to the reviews! $2.50 for an entire roll with 6 pieces for MULTIPLE classic rolls and special rolls for under $10!! Their sashimi pieces are $1.10 per piece which is unheard of in my experience for the quality that I received! I am always very weary of sashimi given that it's not as fresh and you end up paying an arm and a leg for one piece. I was incredibly impressed with how large this place is, the quality of the food, and the ambiance is fantastic!!!! I will DEFINITELY be back here. This restaurant is definitely a new go-to spot for us! The fact that it's walking distance from my apartment is just icing on the cake!!! Can't wait to come on a weekend night!

Great food, very spacey(we got a private room also because we had a big party) and awesome service. Most of the rolls are about $10. They have special rolls that I've never seen anywhere else like the black widow and sweetheart roll. The Kani salad was actually delicious, which is getting harder to find because a lot of restaurants like to add new ingredients. The green apple smoothie was also great, as well as the sundae (don't know the name because I didn't order it). We were so stuffed by the end of the night, and the sundae looked so good that I just had to take a few more bites. PROS: great food, great environment, great service, and easy to find street parking CONS: none

this place is still a hit-or-miss, but the remodeled restaurant looks great, and the vegetable yaki udon was delicious. my meat-eating friend had more of a miss with her chicken teriyaki, but I still think it's the best Japanese joint in the area, and worth a shot if you have a craving for sushi, or even if all you want is some green tea mochi

I quite enjoy going to this place for sushi. Its a fun place to go, sushi is great, and you will always get a lot of sake on the house. May get a bit crowded and there might me a wait but the quality of food is quite good. The only thing I dislike about it is when the restaurant is about to close, they start lifting chairs and sort of let you know that you need to leave. That is a bit awkward, everything else is just fine

Ordered several sushi rolls with brown rice and a garden salad with Ginger Dressing for delivery. It was good, although the spicy salmon was a bit too spicy for my liking and the ginger dressing a bit on the oily side. However, the delivery was prompt and the lady taking my order was very pleasant. Thumbs up!!!

This is a great place for sushi in a neighborhood with shitty restaurants. I always go here for eel avocado, yellow tail, and a few other rolls. I really love the sushi here and it's reasonably priced and pretty good quality. It's a lot better than other places in the neighborhood and they're open late so it's a good chow spot if you haven't had dinner and don't want to cook. They also remodelled the place not too long ago so it no longer looks like a cheesy Japanese themed restaurant from the 90s.

  • Ceres H.

Their delivery is timely and the prices are about what you'd expect for sushi in the area, but the food itself is completely inedible. I decided to try them instead of my usual sushi restaurant (Kumo) and their sushi was rancid. You could tell from just looking at it that it just wasn't fresh - it looked like it had been sitting out for days and I couldn't even attempt to eat it. I see that this sentiment about the freshness of their food is echoed in several other reviews, so I doubt this problem has been rectified as of recently.

They no longer serve HALF OFF. I repeat NO MORE 50%OFF. This changed happened after they closed for a bit and reopened in Sept. Their other Quentin road still has half off (for now). This was my fav spot but I won't be coming back anymore as they removed the incentive that set them apart from other sushi restaurants.

  • Marc W.

Their food is delicious and innovative for Japanese cuisine, and the service is always fast and prompt. I love the Shumai and their Chicken Maki, but they put it on top of paper doilies, and it sticks to the food which is a huge hassle. Their raw fish is always top notch, but the smoked salmon is way too salty to constitute edible. Other than those tiny issues, it's a great restaurant for take out!

I was a loyal customer to this place. I was ordering consistently by phone or in coming. I was waiting for not such a long time to write a review. Place is foolish. i did my bd in that place. "We were preparing by themselves". One of my friend was as a witness, he served our table instead of them. Thanks God that everything was close to us. Today I ordered cani salad, one roll, and 5 shots of rum. They charged me 25$ for 5 shots of rum, it wasn't even 5 shots. I called to them, they said to loyal and consistent client will send free hot sake. When the delivery guy came, they charged me 19$ more!!!!!!! What a business!!!!!!!!! Blame you, guys. Not fair to behave like that. Charge money and do your business, not worth of all.

Service was attentive and very friendly; the waitress remembers the name of all her customers. Decor was good. Staff, unfortunately, was Chinese. Normally I despise Japanese restaurants with Chinese staff because the food always has a sheen of peanut oil aroma and flavor, but this Chikurin wasn't bad in this respect. Kama Hamatchi: A+ May be the best kama hamatchi I've ever had in my life. Pork Yakisoba: B- Nice flavor, but it was the wrong kind of noodle. This was almost like an angel hair pasta, not yakisoba noodles. Also, it was inexpertly cooked. Great yakisoba should be lightly charred in places. These noodles weren't and were a bit droopy. Still, they had a nice flavor, hence the B- rating and not a C+.

I've been eating at Chikurin since it was Nagoya, and the food continues to be top-notch. This is our go-to takeout sushi place, which is great since their delivery zone is way huge in comparison to some of the other local spots. Their food is cheaper than some other places in the Midwood/Ditmas Park extended area, and the quality of the sushi is excellent for that price. Chikurin is one of the few places I've gotten takeout spicy tuna rolls from that actually has a decent spice level to them. And I order their garden salad every time mainly for the dressing. Their creamy salad dressing is addictive, and I wish I could figure out if anyone sells it bottled in the area. Grubhub and Seamless both have Chikurin on their list now, and I highly suggest you give them a shot. If you're like me, their chicken shogayaki could be lunch for three days with the amount of chicken they give you. Yum!

My favorite little sushi place me and my daughter come to twice a month. Since she was about 4 months she has come here so she knows her favorite waitress, they are all sweet people. They have great prices on the regular sushi and sashimi. Love the miso soup, nice and hot!!!!

This is one of my favorite sushi spots. I always come here or order if I want sushi. It's a must!!! The New York sandwich(sushi) is my favorite. My boyfriend introduced me to this place and now I'm hooked. Lol.

Came here a few months ago. My date and I were both seated, but it wasn't long until we both got up and left. There was a weird smell in the air that made us both lose our appetite. It smelled like old, wet carpet. The lighting in the restaurant wasn't that great either. I don't think I would come here unless they clean this place up.

Chikurin is hands down my favorite sushi place in Brooklyn. You get amazing sushi for such a cheap price, it's totally worth it. The staff seats you very quickly and they don't take long to take your order. I've been to this place at least ten times and I can honestly say that their spicy tuna roll is the best I've ever had. I've been to several sushi places and have concluded this! One time I went with a friend and we really wanted to experience a sushi boat. Only thing is, we enjoy rolls more than we like sashimi but the waitress was kind enough to make us a sushi boat with all rolls! Such a great deal, I love this place!

  • Lahav H.

The food is ok, really nothing special, tastes like any other sushi roll I've had in the past. The service however is horrible! Not only do they dote on you, and take your plate away the second you put your chopsticks down, making you feel like they just want you out of there, they chase after you if you don't leave a 15% or greater tip, and will not let you leave. I understand that a waiter's salary consists mostly of tips, but if you're extremely rude and make me feel unwelcome, I'm not gonna leave you a 20% tip. Definitely do not recommend this place, better off going to mitoushi sushi down the block

I went in to order some food to go after reading some good reviews. There were not many people seated on a weekday at 6:30pm so I had to wait about 15 minutes for my meal. I ordered the chicken teriyaki dinner box. It was good but there was one sauce that was not mxed well and grossed me out. I may go back to try other items.

Food is good. But 2 stars came in when I got the bill I told them to make my food extra cooked and spicy. They charged me $0.50 for cooking it extra and $1.00 for making it spicy lol

There are a few Chikurins in Brooklyn. This one on Ocean Ave is our favorite. It's very specious with private booths. Waiter and super friendly and tolerable to children. Menu is great! Lot of special rolls. Highly recommend this place.

My cousin treated me to this place since his friends were going there. Let me tell you that the sushi is cheap and plentiful for the cost. However, the sushi is not remarkable and not quality. I got an order of regular sashimi which costed $13, and I love sashimi but this place, it tasted like it was old. I would def recommend the rolls over the raw stuff at this place because who knows how long it has been there. Quantity does not mean quality in this place of business.

This place has a lot of sushi options. I am from California so I don't know if this is the best sushi place so far seeing that it is my first one. I would say it's not too bad. Reasonable prices.

The dark atmosphere in Chikurin is romantic. The seating leaves a couple secluded, but it's nice for families and days out with friends too. I liked the decor. The food was prepared quickly. There's a great variety of yummy food, especially of sushi and sashimi. The price is fair. My only complaint is that the waiter who served us was slow to come to take our order and slow to give us the check.

Standard Japanese fare at prices beyond compare! This is discount sushi that truly lives up to the title. No gimmicks and no bells and whistles, just heaping portions of sushi that won't break the bank. At most sushi restaurants I'm hesitant about ordering sashimi, for the price often far exceeds the portion. Not at Chikurin, Ocean Ave. The sashimi is served up by the slab: thick, substantial, and oh so delicious. Not only does Chikurin please the appetite, but it also pleases aesthetically. The atmosphere is casual and comfortable, with ample seating to accommodate the scores of patrons who frequent this diamond in the rough. For some cheap romance, one can even reserve a tiki' booth which is offset from the main dining area. If it's a first date, do all the ordering without even looking at the menu; she's sure to be impressed and won't have any idea how inexpensive it actually was.

This place is just awesome! It's my favorite sushi place in Bensonhurst. There's a ton of different types of sushi rolls to choose from, lots of rolls that are 50% off making it $2.50, a great sit-down place with a nice ambiance, and the food is delicious!!! I usually get their rolls, sushi and sashimi pieces ($1-$1.25 each), but friends have gotten their bento boxes and those are amazing too. If you haven't tried it yet, check it out for yourself!

We've been very happy with delivery from Chikurin (Ocean Ave @ Ave. M): fast and accurate, and everything is reasonably priced. Their dumplings are very good, and I'm a big fan of the "salmon sandwich" and the salmon salad; other various rolls we've tried have also been excellent and fresh. Thumbs up!

Sorry but they water down their soy sauce - to me thats just cheap - and NO its not that its low sodium - it tastes watered down. Also, too much vinegar in the rice.

i've been going to this place since 2007 and me and my friends at least come here 2 months worth in a year because they have not raised any of their prices beyond what they advertise and their rolls are always worth it for the amount that they pack. i dont get sashimi because i'm not a raw fanatic who loves eating a slab of raw fish like that so i can't comment on that but definitely i would recommend coming here at least once to check it out yourself. the deserts are pretty cheap as well. other places charged you $4 for 2 halves of fried ice cream but this place gives you 4 halves. we live all the way in staten island and it takes about 20 minutes to get here so it shows you how much this place has made an impact on us!
