As far as Diners go, this is very good. I've only had breakfast food so I can say decent food, better than usual coffee, timewarp 'huh?' prices and no-nonsense service. It's not big so eat at the counter, wait or leave. January 2014 Update: I have to bring this down a star. Going in on a Saturday at 2pm with very few other patrons and we had to wait 45 minutes for our order to arrive and then mine came first and my friend's came a full 10 minutes later. We're talking a burger and a breakfast, nothing elaborate. We never got our sodas, either. Diners are supposed to be faster than that.

Always enjoy this place. Good place for a great diner style breakfast. Always good for a BLT or some soup. (see pictures) These aren't huge gigantor portions, more like servings you would make for yourself at home, but the prices are reasonable. The soups are always hearty, with good "stock" and very flavorful. Nice small counter. Friendly people. Sometimes service is a little slow, if the crowd is at the max, but the food and cleanliness of this place always makes up for it. Solid, Good place.

Never will order from this place again. Waffle tasted like sour milk was used or something. I ordered bacon and it didn't come. Eggs were cold and my coffee ended up being chocolate milk. What the fudge you guys?!

Well, unless you're known in the community here in Bay Ridge, it's not worth stepping into Cathy's Place. I popped in on a Friday night while doing my laundry down the street, hoping to grab a quick plate of pasta. I wish I hadn't bothered. Horrible food and some of the most unfriendly service I've had in NYC. There was a single surly waitress, Kay, whose name I only knew because some of the other patrons seemed to know her and would address her by name. After I walked in and sat down (no "welcome," thanks for coming in," or "have a seat wherever you like," just stone-faced silence), she brought the menu by, gave me about 30 seconds, and asked if I was ready. I wasn't at that point. I put my menu down about 2 minutes later, but I guess she wasn't ready then, and spent about another five minutes as she walked around, passing by me repeatedly, without checking in or giving me the opportunity to flag her down. Once I finally went to order, I was informed that the price was not the same as it was listed in the menu. I went with it, not wanting to have to wait again if I changed my mind. I ordered the chicken parm, my standard diner go-to, since they weirdly didn't have spaghetti bolognese on the menu. It came out quickly, and was a decent-sized portion, but it completely lacked any flavor whatsoever. The soda I got to drink was almost flat. Seriously, you just have to be a little bit friendly to satisfy me; I don't need to be coddled, but "you're welcome" when someone says "thank you" goes a long way. If I'm ever down here again for laundry or at the gym, I'll be sure to pass this place by.

Friendly server. Bargain prices. Oatmeal and bananas were good. Chocolate chip pancakes were excellent. Kitchen didn't have trouble poaching eggs, as many do these days. Seems like a wonderful neighborhood place.

Eh.... Unless your a "regular" customer the service is not professional at all... It is a "mom n pop" shop that obviously does well with the seniors in the neighborhood! They speak to you as a family member, yes, some people may like that but not all do.. I am one who likes professionalism and to be welcomed! This place is not welcoming. In a small place they yell out orders, have personal conversations about other customers. The prices may be cheap but the atmosphere is uncomfortable. I rather pay a little more with professional staff that talk and treat you politley and with a smile. If I wanted service like this I would go to my cousins house for lunch or dinner. No thanks Cathy!

A pleasant neighborhood diner that is a nice choice when you don't feel like dealing with any fast food joints or the nearby Bridgeview Diner. Recently popped into the place when a friend was seeking breakfast and didn't feel like the "30 minute" wait that Bridgeview told us. It was a holiday so to be expected. Anyway, since he was seeking eggs a burger place was out of the question. Cathy's Place is on the small side but cozy and has several booths and a nice sized counter for those who wish to dine there. After placing the order a couple of coffees came out. The order that my buddy made did seem to take a little longer but I assessed it was based on all the take out orders being prepared. There seemed to be quite a few deliveries being done. It was New Years Day after all and I guess many were too hungover to go out. While I was not eating yet and had plans for later, I will say that I almost broke that decree when his eggs and sausage came out. Man did that smell good and looked like a nice portion. It was interesting to know that they also own the neighboring pizzeria and when its asked for will serve their customers pizza if they want it. There was no WiFi signal sadly but that is a minor concern. I'll update this Yelp when I sit down and actually eat as opposed to being The Watcher (that's a comic book reference for those who don't realize).

Charming servers, great coffee and a fair price. Definitely the place to go to get your morning fixing. One observation - Juice servings are tinny.

The bottom line on Cathy's Place is that it's a very affordable neighborhood diner with service that takes some getting used to. It's like the opposite of The Melting Pot. There's a utilitarian "whaddya want" attitude in the air, at least as a non-regular. But the food tastes great and is cheap for a BK breakfast. I stopped by for breakfast with my wife and kids on a sunny morning. It wasn't busy. We seated ourselves. I got french toast with sausage and eggs over easy. My wife got corned beef hash, and we ordered pancakes for the kids. It's great diner food. And the prices were a lot lower than I expected. The server forgot part of my order, but the waitress spotted the error before I brought it up. In the end this is a good alternative to pricey food in the area, at least for breakfast.

I've only ordered take out from Cathy's. I have tried it a couple times (allowing then to redeem themselves) and each time my food has come burnt. :/ not burnt as in extra crispy but more like black flakes on my french toast, fries that snap in half, and potato skins that no longer look like potatoes. I wouldn't write this place off for eating in I just think delivery isn't their strong point.

My Daughter had to take a school test and I happened upon this place as I walked the neighborhood to kill time. Cute little diner. Friendly and attentive staff. I got the typical breakfast - Eggs, bacon, home fries and toast. Not bad (Kind of hard to screw up). I enjoyed the atmosphere so much, I took my daughter here when she was done with her test. She got the a pastrami sandwich. Which was delicious. I don't live close, but if I'm ever in the area again, I'd definitely go back.

The owner and daughter quite rude. The waitresses luke warm. Food stinks. When I first moved into the area I stopped buy to get a container of tea. When I asked for a bag it was flung across the counter to me.

I am very very happy!!! I just got my order of eggs Benedict with home fries and blueberry pancakes. All i can say is I'm very happy i found this place. The eggs Benedict was perfect!! the pancakes were fluffy and delicious and the home fries are cooked just right and seasoned perfectly. If you haven't tried this place i would suggest you do, you won"t be disappointed. Even the delivery man is nice and polite. Perfect, perfect, perfect :)

Sometimes a quiet, reliable diner experience is exactly what you want. This place has it. Solid, rather than exciting. Would hate to see diners like this go away. Very personable, warm, family staff. Huge, swaying, fun-bags on one mom; really adds something to the meal.

I swore off Cathy's Place for a while but I think that my opinion may have changed a bit. I started going to Cathy's about two years ago when I moved into the area. I live two blocks away, so I thought it would be great to have a neighborhood diner for those nights when I just did want to go. At first they were good, but about six months down the line, the food was not good. The burgers were greasy and smelled funny, fries soggy. At the same time, they were have difficulty getting an A rating from the Board of Heath- after one to many murder burgers, I called it quits. I took a chance and just ordered from Cathy's. The consistent A rating gave me the courage to give them another try. So far so very good. The burger was cooked to order an they are hand pressed burgers-not patties. The beef was tasty and not fatty. The fries were crispy and everything came hot! So to Cathy's I believe in the power of change! Keep it up and I may order from you again!

God Bless America for little places like Cathy's!! I love their Reuben, and we frequently drive a little out of the way to eat here on the drive from LI to DC.

Nice diner atmosphere, with a friendly staff. I came when it was dead inside, so who know if that changes if/when it's busy. The food was good, not incredible--just typical diner food. We had eggs, French toast (better than the eggs), potatoes (not great) and toast. I wouldn't order the coffee again, to be honest. The prices are fantastic, though, which makes it worth it to come back when I'm in the area again. That and the fact that I just really liked the people working there!

If you are looking for a real mom and pop place, might I suggest that you go to mom and pop's, because you are not going to find it here. As someone one pointed out last month, the prices have not been changed on the menu, but you can bet that they can remember when it was time to write the ticket. The food is very bland, with nothing seemly fresh. The fries were of your run of the mill frozen market style, the shake that was raved about in other posting was watery, and the corned beef that I had was lacking any real flavor, and I actually had to have french fries added as a side. While placing our order, the phone rang, and we waited for 5 minutes and 27 seconds, while the waitress took a phone order. I was very, very disappointed with the offering, and know that I will never visit again.

It's a true mom-n-pop shop and that's what we are looking for. The only and the biggest issue we had was when we got the check. The prices are not the same as on the menu. So we asked the cashier, she claimed they updated the prices but the new menus didn't come in yet. Well, then you shouldn't raise the prices until you got the new menu!! Or at least when we were placing the order the waitress could have notified us the prices gone up! Not a good way to do business like that.

Our family has been going to Cathy's Place for years. We know all the staff and they know our entire family, including our favorite orders. We always feel welcome. They take extra care to bring us our food exactly as we like. Cathy and her staff show real concern for the community. Many people rely on this restaurant for daily or holiday dinners. They are usually open on holidays because they know their customers look forward to the special meal and good company. One of a kind! Cathy's Place, thank you and we love you.

Order delivery from this place all the time. Food always gets to me quickly, and is always delicious. One time they were out of my order, so they offered me another more expensive menu item I was considering for the price of the cheaper one, no extra charge. Great customer service, pretty sure they sprinkle their sandwiches with crack they're so delicious. Will continue to order food from here frequently.

Cathy's Place, you have a special place in my heart. You never snicker on the phone when I ask for raw onions with my grilled cheese sandwiches. Your waitress Jeannie is adorable and always brings my order with a smile. Your prices are amazing (breakfast for under $4!) and the food is yummy. You always have Snapple Lemon Iced tea and your milk shakes are made with real ice cream. You have also given me a safe ATM machine to use when I don't feel like walking to my bank or using the one in the deli that smells like old Clorox and always has foreign wrestling on.

Cathy's place.. Kind of like going to your mothers house for dinner.. Well not quite but the place has been around forever.. The staff is very nice and the food is great.. Place could use some updating and promotions. Basically its where your grandmother and her bridge playing friends go for lunch after the 12 O clock mass on Sundays. Terrific hamburgers and fries... Good place to grab a coffee in the morning too. Not the place for those trendy starbuck drinking types.
