I don't recall my experience when I visited 5 years ago but I'm certain it wasn't as bad as today otherwise I would have never returned. Initially the inside decor seemed to change; seemed more pleasant and not so dark. Business seemed like the norm with several full tables empty so I'd say they were 75% full during my visit yet the service I received would have me think I was there at full capacity because it was below average. Food was well below average as well so let me break it down... I had the New York strip which came with rice, fried onion and child size portions of veggies. My rice tasted really terrible almost as though it was out of a box (my wife makes a lot of rice so I know what rice should taste like), even the chinese restaurant makes better rice but then again they're experts. The one small head of broccoli on my plate was very warm as though steamed but tasted hard like a rock as though it was dipped in hot water to appear cooked; it couldn't have been cooked. My waitress checked on use twice (to take our order & bring our drinks with meals) then it took 15 mins after asking to pay for money to exchange hands (I'm an eat and go kinda guy). Overall I was completely unimpressed with this place and their menu is way over priced for the food quality. Even if my waitress was on her game and gave me the best service I'd bump this place to 3 stars at most and that would be generous. Maybe had I ordered the pasta I would have enjoyed my meal. Guess they should rename this place "Russian Roulette" cause depending on what you get to eat you'll either hate the place (boom; blow ya brains out) or simply love it.

Walking inside it seems nice and cozy. Decor is nice. I ordered the st. Louis Ribs which described the dish as falling off the bone. It was also recommended by the waiter/bartender. They were meatier but tougher than the ribs you get at a chinese restaurant. I am surprised they did not give me dental floss after dinner. the salad was ok and the vegetables were good. I do not think a restaurant should advertise ribs as meat falling off the bone when it would take the teeth and tongue of a lion to eat it. very disappointed. My wife ordered the stuffed chicken cutlet parmesean and she said it tasted funny. I tasted it and thought it was good. The service was very good especially considering the bartender is the waiter and 70 years old. I don't think I will return.

Interesting place... Food is good, aims for higher-end palates through rich flavor combinations and complex constructions like rigatoni gorgonzola with filet mignon, shrimp, and pesto - my clear menu favorite - or shrimp wrapped in phyllo in a tomato cream. My only caution lies in the use of salt - maybe a little heavy for some people. Desserts were to die for - if they have bananas foster when you visit, don't hold back! Service has been great every time we go, too. A few things prevent five stars, though. Like another reviewer mentioned, the interior needed some TLC - it struck me as a comfortable, well-lived-in place, with all the dings, scratches, and marks you would expect from an old house. It could definitely use a makeover to fit the chef's aspiring menu. Oh, and about the menu - they really should be cleaned and/or replaced every now and then. Mine had rice and butter stuck to it in my last visit, and my wife's had a wine stain on hers; the specials page was stained, folded, and torn - and my wife's was completely missing from hers. Overall, an enjoyable experience every visit - great food, great service, just a well-worn setting preventing five stars.

Business was kind of quiet when we made it over there. It kind of settled to just us being the only table... Felt the food was kind of way below average... soup tasted it came out of a can. dressing for salad was really watery. lobster tail tasted like it was sitting in the freezer a little too long...

I am very impressed with the Savory Grille. I don't love the atmosphere as much as Peppy and Eddie's, but the food is a bit more to my specific taste. It's a great deal and the food is delicious. I haven't been there since 2006 but I doubt its changed. The outside and inside decor leaves a bit to be desired but the FOOD.... I'd recommend just going to the website and checking out the menu..

We knew that the brookside grill restaurant had some guidance from the food network so we were excited to visit. We were not disappointed . Specializing in seasonal local vegetables, fruits, wine and other items. Our first course was a beet and green salad with goat cheese. Excellent start! The we had a great green salad with white balsamic dressing that went with the meal. The entrees were a seared ahi tuna with a great slaw and the brookside chicken special with sautéed veggies and rice. The chicken was melt in your mouth great in a tasty sauce. For dessert we had a homemade apple and blueberry cobbler, which not overly sweet, but just perfect. They have been open for three weeks and I bet in a few months, you will need reservations. Excellent meal, quality ingredients that you can taste the difference, friendly service. Highly recommend this restaurant and will return again and again.

OK so I write this review September 1, 2012 and all of the prior reviews on Yelp appear to be for the former business at this location known as the Savory Grill. Our waiter told us that the Brookside Grill is only 2 months old and completely new owners. Unfortunately they are suffering from the declining reputation of the former business. My girlfriend and I stopped here for dinner as we were passing by and heard good things a while ago about the prior business. We noticed the new name on the way inn and decided to give it a try. The dining room was not crowded and we were seated right away. Our very attentive waiter came immediately for our drink order. I asked for my new favorite rum "Kraken" but they did not have it, so I settled for a Bacardi & Coke and my girlfriend had a glass of wine, both of which came to the table right away. The drinks came with a bread basket filled with the best crispy garlic bread and herb butter we have had in a while. The waiter took our appetizer order and that was delved rather quickly also. We started with the fried calamari and it was lightly battered, tender and delicious. After the appetizer was a small mixed green salad with a very good blue cheese dressing, yum! I asked for extra dressing but am not so sure that happened. I ordered the St Louis style ribs as I had been thinking about firing up our smoker for the holiday weekend anyway. The ribs came with garlic mashed potatoes and a mixed vegetable. My girlfriend ordered the Penne Alfredo with Cajun Chicken and Broccoli. Our meal came perfectly as ordered. The ribs were "fall off the bone" as described and very tasty. I loved the garlic mashed potatoes as there was just a hint of garlic and it was not overpowering. My only criticism on the ribs, and it is a minor one, would be the BBQ sauce which was very sweet and applied to the ribs with a heavy hand. I would suggest a light topping and a side serving of sauce for those that prefer the sweeter version. The fresh vegetable mix was also very good. The penne was delicious and perfectly seasoned and the Cajun Chicken was perfectly cooked. Our meal was reasonably priced at $65 and we will defiantly eat here again.

A delightful place for Christmas Eve. Very friendly, white tablecloths, excellent service. Try the mixed green salad. It sounds simple but it's so fresh that it seems it was just delivered from Blooming Hill Farm. Dressing is house made and brings out the flavor of the mesclun mix. I especially enjoy a regular menu item--the cod with Livornese sauce. The host and server could not be more accommodating. My mother usually orders the steak--which is typically so large that she takes half home to have as a sandwich the next day

We went for a quiet dinner on a Sunday night. We heard it was great from friends and we weren't disappointed. We had lobster cakes, goat cheese salad, short ribs and the ponte vecchio chicken. All were wonderful and I'm fussy. Good flavors and textures and nice portions. The service was fine- maybe excellent since it was unobtrusively attentive. Sal, the owner was friendly and helpful and I feel like it's combination of welcome and great food will make it a favorite. I'll be back!

We had a wonderful meal at Brookside Grill. The New Zealand Lamb was delicious and the chicken dish with spinach was prepared just right. The atmosphere is relaxing and the experience of dining in this Cornwall - Highland Mills restaurant is a real plus to the community. We returned to Brookside for the second time in two weeks. Once again, food is well prepared and presented. Many choices, fresh ingredients and they are able to accommodate special dietary needs. A real transformation from the previous establishment.

We have had both our sons' communion parties catered at The Brookside Grill. The first last year, the second just last week. We, and our guests, were very satisfied with both experiences. There was a new chef (Sal) for the second party in May 2013. The food was excellent. Several of our guests stated that the food was even better for this year's party. We would definitely recommend The Brookside Grill to others.

I stopped the other day with a friend for lunch. My bud ordered off the menu ( some chicken breast the way he likes it) and I the short ribs. Both were great. Pasta faglio was just the way we like it . Not too red. So this Sunday I stopped in with my wife. She ordered the steak and I the rack of lamb . We started with the calamar. It was all on point. Sal is managing the restaurant and it has a new feel. A new life. Forget about your past experiences with this restaurant. Give it a try . I guarantee you you will not be disappointed.

I went to Brookside Grill following their mid-summer 2014 relaunch and found the food to be amazing (my wife and father concurred) and the ambiance to be rather nice. While the new chef--Steve--did work with the much-maligned Restaurant Stakeout show on the Food TV network in order to "document" the changes (the staff said most of that is just staged drama for TV [see my edit below for more about this]), he is a professional, classically trained guy who is very sincere about running the restaurant the right way going forward. All the reviews on here regarding the pre-Summer 2014 restaurant can be completely disregarded; there is new chef and management doing their own thing now. And what is the new management doing? Well, they are sticking to the core tenants that underpin just about every great restaurant I've ever been to (and I'm a city guy who has been to his share of top flight restaurants in NYC and around the world): fresh, local, seasonable food cooked, as Gordan Ramsay would say, to perfection. Because we were considering using the chef's catering for our wedding, we asked him to make a sampling of a variety of entrees and appetizers. We ended up having the following items (as well as a few that were not on the menu but were equally as tasty): Brookside Chicken Breast -- Cooked absolutely perfectly. The chicken was moist and flavorful, while the sauce was well balanced and a perfect compliment. Chicken Porcini -- A savory dish much like a stew that could have come out of your grandma's kitchen, provided that your grandma knew how to make an amazing chicken porcini. Yellowfin Ahi Tuna -- The star of the menu as far as our taste buds were concerned. A generous portion of fresh tuna coated with sesame seeds and accompanied by flavorful sauces. It was to die for. (My father who returned to the restaurant just to have the dish insisted it be on our wedding menu.) Three Cheese Lobster Mac N' Cheese -- Just as good as it sounds. Must be some magic mix of cheese in these because it is so good that you cannot stop eating it. Definitely leagues above your typical mac & cheese. We also had some amazing cobblers with homemade ice cream for desert. Both were great together (and would have been great apart too). We even ended up using the cobbler in lieu of a wedding cake at our wedding. Overall, it was the kind of bistro-style restaurant I'd expect to find in SOHO or the East Village. Having that same level of food up around Monroe (where I grew up) is a welcome change. I don't think you'll find another restaurant of this caliber within 25 miles of Woodbury Commons, that's for sure. Full disclosure: I enjoyed the restaurant experience so much that I did hire the chef to cater my wedding. It may be possible that my experience at the restaurant was out of the ordinary because he was trying to impress me to win that contract, but my review here is nothing more than my honest takeaway (my wedding catering is already complete at the time of this review--and was just as good as the restaurant experience--so there is no reason for me to give anything other than an honest review). EDIT: I just watched the episode of Restaurant Stakeout featuring the Brookside Grill. In case you couldn't tell, just rest assured that the show is entirely fake. I knew this ahead of time having talked to Chef Steve and the staff while considering Steve's catering for my wedding, but I feel I should emphasize that here again considering how the show cast the staff in a somewhat negative light at first. How fake is it? Well, for starters, Steve and Willy are friends in real life. The staff knew very well they were being recorded the whole time. The staff was even prompted to engage in certain behavior just for the cameras. And the "week" of coaching in the show? Didn't happen. It was all recorded over two days. Finally, the overhaul of the restaurant, including the true farm-to-table fare, was entirely Steve's idea from the start. I don't have any true insider information other than what the staff told me about their experiences, but it seems the show is nothing more than an elaborate publicity stunt or sorts.

Ate here several years ago and promised myself not to eat here again. But we did -- a few days ago. And we won't be back for a long time. The place is drab and somewhat dark. Brighter colors and some light would do a lot of good. I had strip steak with what was supposed to be blue cheese on it. Hah! It wasn't blue cheese; it was blue-cheese dressing. And blue-cheese dressing tastes nothing like real blue cheese. And the steak was TOUGH. The 4 other people in our party did no better with what they ordered. However, our waiter provided excellent service. If we had had a less attentive waiter, I would have given the place one 1 star.
