First time visiting Clayton, first day got take out muffins and macaroons, delicious. Returned next day for a late lunch. What a treat, sat on the warm enclosed porch overlooking the St Lawrence River, beautiful. Staff very friendly, all smiles, especially the manager, wait staff well trained. The Lobster Bisque was tasty, the Crab cake BLT was unique, generous size crab portion. The sides were nice. The bakery aroma was inviting, dragged us in from the street. Prices moderate, food quality and service were worth the cost. We will make a point to return again and again.

One of the best places to eat in Clayton. Beautiful patio on the water with tasty cocktails, a nice beer selection, and some great sandwiches. The bakery and coffee are great - don't skip the half moons. Clayton is really up and coming and this is a lovely addition.

People love this place, it's always packed, but personally I've found it to be hit or miss. Their jet teas (frozen greenteas with fruit) are amazing. I crave them all summer long, and their lunch is great too. They have honey wheat bread that is absolutely incredible. But service is not always the best. The girls can be rude and not efficient (they don't follow up with you) Counter service (takeout) is usually great, it's dining in that's the issue. They used to be across the street and that's when it was my favorite. It was small and perfect every time. She's gotten big and it is waterfront now which is great for all of us but some things unfortunately go unnoticed. And with it being peak season and the town so busy (there aren't very many dining options in Clayton) people/tables often slip through the cracks.

Simply put, lunch: yes, dinner: not so much if it's the weekend. We went on a Thursday night and our delightful server told us they only serve from the lunch menu on weeknights. We enjoyed a great meal, wonderful, friendly service and the killer view so much we came back for dinner Friday. Dinner menu was a disappointment and the service - while still good -was a little harried.

This is the best place to eat in the area! Everything is fresh and based on premises!! The lunches are delicious as are the dinners and baked goods! Wherever you're staying in the thousand Islands be sure to check Bella's out!

Would be a 4 stars if we just rated our drink spot the night before. The next day we went for lunch and our server didn't tell us the specials and seemed to rush us. All the other servers seemed much better! I guess we had the wrong pick of the bunch.

My Husband and I first time here. Great food, and even better service. Not to mention a beautiful patio in the rear of the cafe over looking the river. A must try, looking forward to coming back. Food portions are generous.

Clayton is a small, rapidly gentrifying town along the St. Lawrence. Bella's has a great view of the water, several elevations of outdoor dining. Fortunately we were in a covered section, as the weather soon turned on us. Overall atmosphere was really excellent. The food was excellent, the Crab Cake BLT was outstanding, hot, lightly toasted exterior, lots and lots of crab meat, and the bacon added a wonderful flavor. The Chicken Panini was also very good, although very similar to other panini that I've had. The service, however, was lacking throughout the experience. Hostess was polite enough, but distracted and didn't seem to be paying much attention. When she told me the table was ready she immediately turned and walked away, without looking to see if we were all there. By the time I caught up with her to tell her we had a handicapped person with us, she was in the middle of the restaurant. She quickly found us another table, but I felt like I had to chase her down. Our server was either "in the weeds" or just not very good--took him a while to arrive, took a while for drinks, took a while for food, and he didn't check back after he dropped the food until we were done. A brief mention of dessert, and then here's the check. Must have been ready to go home. Overall, a nice experience, the food was worth the moderate pricing, hopefully the service was an aberration.

Right on the mighty st. Lawrence river is a quaint little restaurant that is a "must stop" if you find yourself in Clayton NY. Bella's sits about 50 with views of the river. Great lunch varieties, prices and selections.

One word: Overrated. The one good thing about this place is the view. Food options are limited, and overpriced for what you get. And the service is mediocre. I was so excited about visiting this place with my husband but we left highly dissapointed.

We enjoyed our first dinner on the back deck at Bella's tonight, it was fabulous. We ordered crab cakes, flat iron steak, mushroom risotto and salmon with black rice. What a perfect night on in the St. Lawrence with great food and family. Great staff and atmosphere too, a must for dining in Clayton - 5 stars all the way!!!

Very clean restaurant, great staff, exellent food. Nice view of the St. Lawrence River. The only reason for the 4 star rating was the girl at the bakery counter seemed like she needs to check her attitude.

We decided to have one nice meal while we were up in the area and we settled on Bella's---I say settled because we were having a hard time deciding what to eat, even though we were just walking around Clayton. (It's a small place.) First and foremost, the views are great and that's what you're paying for. The ambiance is quite nice. We came for dinner and it was really beautiful that night. The only thing I would suggest is possibly having back cushions for the chairs or getting the outdoor ones because otherwise the chairs are uncomfortable. They had ones on the seat portion but not for the back. We started with drinks and their bread. The bread was good and my sangria, though tasty, was pretty full of ice and it made it difficult to drink. The server was on point and very knowledgeable. Upon reading the other reviews, I guess it's hit or miss---that night, the servers appeared very knowledgeable and totally on the ball. While we waited for our meals, the server even brought out a little sample of the soup. It was REALLY good. The meals were good---one was excellent and the other (chicken) I thought was just good. We followed up with dessert. The chocolate was too rich for me but the creme brulee was REALLY delicious. We had a very pleasant experience and if we were in the area again, we would return.

Best dining experience we've had in this town so far! Our waiter Robert was awesome. He's worth requesting! He was knowledgable about the menu (which was a brand new menu that they just started using today), nice, and pretty funny. He even brought us free chocolate dipped macaroons because he forgot to bring us our bread on time. Food was delicious and pretty fancy. We had a gorgeous view of the lake from a patio in the back. We will be coming back for sure!

I'm teetering between 3 and 4 stars. I'm going with 3 because 3 stars = "A-Ok" and that's what our dining experience amounted to. This is a nice little restaurant/bakery type place with an EXCELLENT view of the river. I think the service could've been better. It took awhile for anyone to notice we were seated. We had lunch, and there was a nice selection of sandwiches, soups, and salads. All three of us had a sandwich, and they were good, but nothing extraordinary. Overall, we weren't disappointed, we loved the atmosphere and the view, the food was okay, and the service was a tad sluggish.

Great location, nice view, the burger was over cooked and dry. The Gouda and roasted pepper soup was good though. Sandwiches and salads only. Wish they had entrees or a bit more.

As far as places to eat in Clayton, this is one of the best options. The view is beautiful from their large, partly shaded patio and their fresh baked bread is fantastic. The service is spotty... the waitstaff is very friendly, but the kitchen runs way slow, with long waits between dishes and plates being brought out at various intervals. At least while you wait for your food you have the amazing river view to enjoy. The food itself is better than average and presented nicely, but again, all relative to other dining in this region. It's still a really great addition to Clayton... it's nice to finally have other upscalish restaurants in town to choose from than just the Clipper.

Incredible view of the river. Our service and food was divine. Worth the wait to get in. We have been visiting here since they opened and have always been satisfied. Homemade bread is to die for!

Excellent menu. Clean, organic and beautifully presented. Being from California, I was ecstatic to find my ,'home style' food. The bakery was tempting even to a gluten free foodie! Yummm!

The view and food here is pretty good, just don't buy the baked goods! Twice we bought both cookies - a big bag, everything is made on premises I believe, but they were sooo dry. Niether my husband nor my 13 year old nephew could eat them, and they're not picky. Its a darling place and other than the yucky cookies and bread , both dry and tasteless, its good. They just need a new baker/pastry chef. The regular entrees are good. Great view and outside seating and bar serving beers and wine.

Wonderful location. We sat on covered deck on the water. They even had comfy throws if you were chilly. Very nice touch.the bakery selection was awesome. Breakfast was delicious. We both had cinnamon raison french toast that came with a cup of fruit. Service was excellent with the friendly staff and speed of getting our food.

There is nothing worse than Upstate NY'ers from some schmucky upscale Syracuse or Rochester suburb (consider the cities..) with attitude. This place is chock full of them...lots of douchey pink and green and very little substance. This place would last 2 months in Greenwich or Lake Forest.

Bella's is on the river with outdoor seating. The food was delicious. .. high quality with speciality items you won't find at local breakfast places. I had the breakfast burrito, which was yummy. My husband had the French Toast which was heavenly. .. not your typical french toast. If you are looking for ordinary breakfast dishes, this isn't your place. For a special treat, it was a hit!

While I really enjoyed my feta spinach soup my roast beef sandwich left something to be desired. It was just so so and from the menu I'm not left with many choices if other things that sound good. But eh, it's just me. Also I thought the staff was just so so. Well ok, my server was really sweet. But one of the women when I first came in came off badly. She was all smiles until I said I was there for lunch then her smile turned sour. I was there at least 15 minutes before lunch was officially over so no reason for her to be prissy. Oh well. I wouldn't go back.

Bella's is not to be missed when visiting the 1000 Islands. We ate lunch outside in the shade of a huge Maple tree (there are two covered porches as well). The river view was beautiful, the service was exemplary and the food outstanding. Sandwiches were overstuffed and served on homemade breads and rolls. They are accompanied by either a green salad or a pasta salad. We both opted for the green salad which was fresh, crisp and lightly dressed with a fruity house dressing. I chose Bella's Crab Cake BLT which was served on a grilled roll. The homemade crab cake stood up well to the bacon not allowing the taste of the area to be overpowered by the smokey flavor of the bacon. My wife opted for a Roast Beef & Swiss panini with sauteed onions and a horseradish dijionaise sauce served on thick slices of Bella's bread. She declared it to be one of the best sandwiches she ever ate. The only disappointment was our Blue Corn Tortilla chips and Salsa appetizer. The chips were crumbs from the bottom of the bag and the salsa came straight from a jar. Making fresh salsa should be snap for a restaurant like Bella's. Had it not been for that, they would have received 5 stars.

My moms made me give 4 when really i give 2 stars. My sandwich was gross but the bread was good. The service was slow! And there was a woman in the front who was not friendly at all!

Seating was quick and friendly, but service was VERY slow and a bit un-attentive.We had a Rueben (pretty good) and a semi Asian Salad that was mostly Romaine lettuce. The out door seating made the place but it isn't on my list for a second visit.

We've come here for a long time from when it first opened to what it has evolved into now. It really is a lovely location and the waitstaff is very friendly and attentive. Today I went and ordered coffee, soup and a burger. The soup is always delicious. Their red pepper and lobster bisque are essentially staples there and have been very well made each time we've ordered it. The burger is always disappointing though. Not because of it's flavor, the beef is actually tasty, however it's never cooked to order. I always order medium rare, and it always comes out more than well done making it dry and difficult to eat. It will be a while before I order anything but soup. Their pastries however, are delicious. I've never had macaroons quite like the ones here. They're serves chilled, and are out of this world. Overall their sandwiches, wraps and pastas are average at best. But their desserts, coffee and soups are pretty amazing.

The worst service ever! Had to seat ourselves and not one of the wait staff even bothered with us for 10 min. We walked out and they were not even concerned.

Bloody brilliant! Right now, this holds the title of best restaurant in the area. My girlfriend and I each ordered the filet which was served on a crab cake with asparagus. Cooked to perfection. Kitchen service was a tad slow, but we expected a wait for filet. The waitress was incredibly kind and courteous. For dessert we had a mango guava cheesecake that was out of this world. Dessert is a must when you see what the bakery has to offer. Cupcakes, cookies, muffins... my my. We will be making many return trips very soon. Bella's gets my highest recommendation.

Nice view-Had slow service... and the waitress was unfamiliar with a few things on the menu. Had delicous soups...they rocked as well as the croutons or anything from the bakery. Salad was BLAH- chicken salad made from over boiled chicken ( guess that is why the soup was so darn good)- like sawdust with a few pieces of celery then thrown over a spring mix for $9- No other goodies on the plate , nor enough salad or dressing to make it tasty- BLAND and really not well thought out... My other half had the cuban...he said was OK- some other folks around us had other salads that were very plain- I would not go here again- sorry! Maybe dinner better...I expected something better than the lunch selection...just soups and salads..that was it.

I have gone there twice and had a bad experience both times. The coffee is terrible and menu is very limited. We went there for dinner. They wouldn't even let me order a side or something small for my 11 month old son. My only option was a $20+ meal for him. It's not a kid friendly place. I will not go again.

The banana French toast was a disappointment, which surprised me since I love bananas and French toast, but it was just didn't gel. I've since spoken with others who agree, but it sure seems like a good idea. The service was very good and the waitresses must have come from far away, because in this area no one looks THAT good. So, it's said we eat with our eyes, and I left a nice tip despite the French toast.

We are lucky to say we have been fortunate to have eaten at some of the best restaurants in the world and we know good food. We had dinner here last night and the food was excellent. We had a great waitress and the best table on the deck. They have a small but excellent wine list with fairly reasonable prices. It doesn't get much better than this when the view is so spectacular, the food is yummy, the service good, and the ships passing right in front of your nose. The mood was jovial among the dinners when a huge cruise ship passed by and one of true waitress yells out our ship just came in I see , so everyone has to leave now cause we are closing up shop! It was just so funny and everyone roared with laughter! Thank You for a special evening that didn't come cheap but was worth every cent. Just as we were getting into our car it started to sprinkle. Great timing for us. Do go early for a good table if it is a nice night.

Went to Bella's several times in June 2012 and everything was delicious, from the crab cake sandwich special to the breakfasts we enjoyed. Substitutions were no trouble either - and they have great views. We love this place.

For the area it really is the only bakery choice. Decent food at a decent price. Could be a bit cleaner and service more professional, but for the area likely as good as it gets.

Great location in Clayton. Mainly soups, salads, sandwiches on the lunch menu. We were greeted by several folks in the restaurant as we entered and waited for our table. Sat on the covered deck and enjoyed the view. Food was okay -- chowder was not bad, panini was good, however, the cake was not worth it. There are some good-looking sweets and treats at the front of the restaurant, but the cake that came to the table...my daughter's birthday cake from the local grocery store tasted better. We came during the busy lunch hour, but that doesn't excuse the waitress for giving us our bill without asking if we wanted dessert, or anything else for that matter.

Fabulous view with bar style seating on a deck direct overlooking the river. Indoor seating also available and some tables down by the lawn off the deck. Food is good (lunch). Service is OK. Set hours for lunch and breakfast so you are unable to order any items off the breakfast menu past noon or so. Also found the place unwilling to do substitutions - and few if any selections for children. The place is also a bakery and I did noticve plenty of homemade breads for sale and quite a few people in line for the bakery selections. But I likely will not return for lunch as I was not thrilled with the service. But the view - can't beat it! And if I did return it would be for the view, not the food or service.

Decent food. I like that there are veggie options. Last time we went, the hostess was rude. Our waitress, though very sweet, served our drinks near the end do the meal. I had to ask her 3 times for a glass of water. Folks at the next table never got their soup before their sandwiches. really bad experience. I won't go back.
