I've passed by this place many times going to Il Bambino and always wanted to check it out. It is a cute little restaurant with what I call "fancy pizza." Good service. The pizzas are 12" and one person can definitely eat a full one on their own, maybe even a little more if you are as monstrous as me when it comes to food. I came here with 3 other people and we ordered 3 pies and I would say it was just enough. We ordered the queen, chico verde, and the brussel sprouts pizza. The chico verde pizza with the kale was definitely the favorite for us. The queen is a good safe choice; the brussel sprout pizza is most certainly different and not bad but my least favorite of the three. Of course nothing beats pizza from the little pizza joints you find throughout NYC. I would most certainly come back and try the other pizzas in the future, probably not any time soon though. Prices are fair in my opinion.

The Abe Froman and Spicy Soppresatta are straight up heavenly. OH AND THE MEATBALLS.

Decent pizza, although the crust is a bit gummy. And the toppings were good, but seemed a bit... precious. Lacks the finesse and mastery of Basil. Really cool decor though, and a gorgeous back yard.

Pretty spacious and definitely hipster. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Menu is simple so you won't have to contemplate forever on what to order and that's a good thing. Pizza was above average, but I've had better in the area, like Saks. We ordered the Hawaiian, Sausage, and Queen. They're like 12 inch personal pies. Someone on here suggested getting the Mexican cola. Don't. It's merely a bottle of coke with nutrition facts in Spanish for 3 bucks......

Astoria welcomed its latest pizzeria, Milkflower, to the neighborhood last week and all I can say is WOW. With so many great choices already - Sac's Place, Antika, etc. - Milkflower has come and elbowed its way in to compete with the best of them. Milkflower only has a week under its belt, but is doing one hell of a job at shining bright on 31st Avenue and showcasing its own character to set it apart. Atmosphere Milkflower has completely transformed the space it's in with reclaimed wood and exposed brick. Light bulbs jut out from sockets in the ceiling and walls to provide just enough light. One of the tables, made of police crossing barricades, immediately drew my attention as a nice New York City touch. Additionally, Milkflower honors the previous tenant in the space, a dry cleaner, with a mural on the back wall. Everything is intricately designed and you can tell a lot of time and effort was put forth to deliver a well packaged atmosphere and interior. The highlight of the restaurant that all eyes seem to be fixated on is the enormous pizza oven situated behind an open kitchen where pizzas are prepared as quickly as they are eaten. Food Milkflower's menu isn't online yet and I foolishly forgot to take a picture, so you'll have to take my word for it when I say they have some incredible sounding pizzas, salads and small plates, many of which are seasonal. We decided to pig out on the following: Toast Plate: Four pieces of a toasted baguette served up with (you get one of each) 1) Ramp pudding, charred onion and broccoli rabe 2) Avocado and tomato with balsamic 3) Crushed pea, ricotta and topped with lavender 4) Grated egg, fava bean and onion Brussels Sprouts and Egg Pie with Truffle Oil Spicy Soppressata Pie with Thyme Honey First up, the toast plate. Each piece of toast had its own unique personality and I loved each and every one of them. There were some surprises, such as the crushed peas topped with lavender, but these were pleasant surprises. I didn't expect to be eating flowers when I arrived at Milkflower but the lavender was refreshing and did a great job complementing the crushed peas and ricotta. The highlight was definitely the ramp pudding, charred onion and broccoli rabe. This was full of garlic and salt and I didn't want it to end! Now the main event... pizza! Brussels sprouts are my latest addiction (weird, right?) so when I saw a Brussels sprout pizza I just had to order it. Brussels sprout leaves are scattered across the pie topped with fresh cheese and an egg. This was delicious at night and I immediately envisioned this as the perfect daytime pie. It's colorful, light, refreshing and would be perfect for brunching over while recapping a late night out with friends. The one question I have is how do they prevent the whole restaurant from smelling like Brussels sprouts?! The spicy soppressata pizza was a perfect combination of spicy and sweet. The soppressata was definitely spicy and gave this pizza a nice kick. The edges of the meat were curled up and charred from the heat of the oven, giving off a nice burnt flavor as I made my way through this pizza. This would have been your everyday pepperoni pizza had it not been drizzled with honey. The honey contrasted with the spiciness of the soppressata, hitting your mouth with two drastically different flavors. I was in heaven and couldn't get enough of it. The pies at Milkflower aren't the enormous pies you get at your regular pizza place. These pies are medium-sized and not perfectly round in shape. These irregularities give them a feeling of authenticity and fit perfectly with the seasonal toppings scattered throughout the menu. The dough is light, chewy and doesn't weigh down the pizza, allowing the other ingredients to really shine through. Service It was opening week at Milkflower when I checked them out so it was very busy. However, they were all over it. The wait was about 15 minutes but I was offered the opportunity to order a beer while waiting which I gladly said yes to. The service was extremely friendly and very accommodating. The staff gladly took time to walk diners through the menu, answer any questions and just chitchat. Value The toast plate cost $12 and the pizzas were around $15 each. Based on the quality of ingredients and overall experience, this is a great value. The pizzas aren't huge - we ordered two of them for two of us - but we basically had to roll out of the restaurant after consuming all this food. The Verdict After writing this, I wish I was heading to Milkflower tonight! This may just be my new favorite pizza place in Astoria. From start to finish, everything at this restaurant impressed me. It delivers on a unique and intriguing interior with similarly unique and intriguing pizzas to follow suit. Visit Milkflower, now.

This new pizza joint in Astoria was delicious! I went here last night on a date and thought: The Food -Was delicious. My date and I split the spicy soprassata pizza and the brussel sprout/mozzarella/truffle oil/egg pizza and they were great! The crust was thin, the ingredients fresh, and the brussel sprout pie was a stand-out. They make their mozzarella in-house, which was extremely good. YUM! The Ambience -Was decent. The interior of the restaurant was cool and post-industrial and it was not too crowded on a Tuesday night. The lighting and music could be improved, but the place is only a few months old. Had the ambience been better, I would've given this place 5 stars. The owner stopped by to talk with us for a while, which I found to be a nice touch, and the service was very good. The Prices -Were also decent. The pizzas are $13-14, and while small, they're very filling. Beer and wine were priced decently as well. I asked what the restaurant's name, Milkflower, referred to, and the owner told us that it refers to mozzarella, which they make in-house, and which means flower of the milk. Charming.

Best pizza I have had yet in NYC. The spicy sopresata pizza is the way to go-- its a pepperoni on steroids with red sauce and a drizzle of honey. At first, pepperoni with Honey sounded very odd, but the combination is a pleasant surprise for your taste buds. I think the brussels sprout pizza was too plain and bland-- mozerella, Brussels sprouts shavings, and a sunny side up egg-- it would have been better with a sauce of some kind.. The crust is so good and thin and crispy. The guy told me it is very pure and the only ingredients are flour and water-- no sugar, no additives. Ambiance is cool and eclectic.

This place reminded me of Antika on 30th ave except way more chill. Tasty pie combined with a solid beer selection is really all it takes to keep me interested. I would definitely recommend this spot to friends.

The best pizza i ever had! nice place to visit in astoria if you are craving for pizza. Tried the meatballs, some salads and 3 kinds of pizza! They also serve a nice selection of beers which i loved! I'm there almost once a week!

First the good, the decor clean, rustic, nice! And it smelled great! Now the bad: the service. Subpar! Went with a couple friends ready to eat good cause we heard such good things. Highly disappointed! We were instructed to wait outside on a cold october evening for well over the 15min wait and were completely bypassed by another party! That's all it took for us to walk out and give another establishment our business.

My husband and I order out once a week and pretty much get the same thing every time-The Queen with prosciutto and the Meatballs. It's always perfect and delicious. I've also tried the Arugula Pizza and it was excellent.

Despite the bubbly, sunny disposition of our server /endsarcasm, we were able to enjoy the food we actually received. Wait, what? Allow me to explain: We decided on an early dinner on Sunday, we didn't want to take the risk of missing Breaking Bad (priorities). We didn't have to wait for a table, and having our pick we chose to sit outside. Taking full advantage of the lovely September weather, we shared one of the two picnic tables with two very gossipy friends. While walking to the back we both looked into the kitchen. I spied with my two eyes, and a very large pair of glasses, the toast plate, that while being a little pricey for 3 pieces of toast w/ different toppings looked really appetizing. So we ordered it. Or did we...? ::shifty eyes:: We *also* ordered 2 different pies: The Brussel Sprouts, which I've been thinking about all day, and is the main reason I'm writing this review today instead of waiting until a CM threatens to take my badge away for being lazy. The Hawaiian, which wants to be a grown up Hawaiian pizza. So it was ok. But damn, brussel sprouts and an egg on a pizza?! Who the heck knew it would be that good? . Coupled with the 2 glasses of wine that we ordered, and received. The bill was a little pricey for pizza. I sometimes get confused when restaurants in the Other Boros charge just as much as restaurants in Manhattan, but I'm a New Yorker and think it's all your fault that Rent Is Too Damn High. In the end, the server was one of those people who couldn't be bothered. We never received, or were charged for the toast, which is fine in the end b/c I was full, but still, it's just an example of her lack of attention. The place is cute. That Brussel Sprout pizza was everything. Errthing.

I wouldn't be surprised at a certain amount of discombobulation within the first few weeks of a restaurant opening, but I still kind of expect to be treated respectfully as a potential repeat customer. We came in early on a Sunday evening, so it was hardly packed. After a good deal of hemming and hawing by what seemed to be 2 (maybe 3?) hosts, despite what looked to be several empty spaces to accommodate our party of 2, we were finally seated at a table for 4. Just as we settled in though, after confirming, for maybe the 5th time, that we were in fact, a party of 2, we were rather unceremoniously whisked away by a second host who left us at a table for 2 in the back, curtly citing a need for the 4-top. He wasn't in the least bit apologetic about shuffling us around - treated us, rather, with the kind of attitude one might expect if we had actually been the ones to inconvenience them by rudely seating ourselves. Maybe that's what he thought we did? In any case, the experience left a bad taste in my mouth - one the pizza didn't really make up for (I ordered the mushroom pie) - but maybe you'll have better luck than I did. The waitstaff, on the other hand, was great and the pizzas came out quickly. There's a lot of brick oven pizza to be had in the neighborhood as of late and, all things considered, I don't think I'll be going out of my way for Milkflower any time soon.

Milkflower is one of our favorite places in our neighborhood. Super fresh ingredients from Brooklyn Grange Farm, when in season, and a charming rustic/reclaimed interior that was fitted out by the brothers that own and run the place. A great neighborhood addition that always pleases the palette! I miss the toast plate but the Stinging Nettle Pizza last night was off the chain!

We happened upon this place by accident on a walk today, and decided to try it tonight for dinner. Didn't know it was their first night open. The place was packed! All night long, people coming and going. Yay, small business! We were hoping to sit outside but it's not open yet (Bonus: outside garden seating. not front street enjoy the traffic seating.) For photos of the interior and some shots of the food go to the we heart astoria blog Everyone was really nice and came by to see how we were and if we were enjoying things. Even though it was super busy one of the owners (Pete - the other was making pizzas) made it over to our table to chat for a bit. Water was refilled often. They're not stingy w/ napkins. And they take your app plate away and bring you a clean plate for pizza. Service was pretty good, even though it was crazy busy in there and it was their first night. Some places really take forever to get it together (ehem, Bareburger which STILL messes up my order every single time for the last 2 yrs). We got the arugula fennel salad. Had grapefruit, parm cheese, walnuts, mushrooms, celery too. It was really nice and fresh (Veg is from Brooklyn Grange in LIC). The arugula leaves were giant and spicy. Yum. I thought it was under seasoned and a tiny bit under dressed although heavy on the black pepper. But it's nice, crisp, and fresh. Perfect for a warm night. We also got the "Queen" (otherwise known as a Margarita) and the white pizza. So, let's talk important stuff: the crust. Amazing. Soft and chewy - what you expect from a wood burning oven. But NOT soggy in the middle (I'm looking at you Motorino). I found myself wishing they sold bread I could take home. If you've been to Paulie Gee's (in my opinion THE BEST pizza in NY), and you dream about it like I do, you'll find this crust a close 2nd. The ingredients were clearly fresh. A nice light tomato sauce. But it tasted a little off to me and I couldn't put my finger on exactly what it was. I think it's just straight tomato, not a seasoned sauce. So that might be it. But you should probably judge this for yourself. The cheese is made there and yummy. The white pizza was light even though it had ricotta cheese but most of the flavor comes from the garlic slices on top that are still quite raw and you find yourself biting right into them, a few different times in 1 slice. I like garlic but don't love chomping into slices of semi-raw garlic. So if you're on a date, you've been warned. You end up eating w/ your eyes, watching food coming and going and seeing what your neighbors are eating. The have "toasts" basically bruschetta w/ not the usual tomato topping that looked amazing. But we knew if we had those, we wouldn't have room for pizza. So next time. PS The music was kind of loud. But good music so give and take, right? So far only beer on the menu and lots of different "gourmet" sodas. And Mexican Coke (made w/ cane sugar). Save room for a trio of gelato for $5. A real deal considering it's from il laboratorio del gelato and delicious! Flavors are mascarpone, black sesame seed, and blueberry. Really amazing. I'm usually really underwhelmed by food in Astoria. When new places open I never get my hopes up. But this place didn't disappoint. It's still a baby so there are things that need some work but overall it's very tasty, a nice atmosphere, and the prices are very reasonable (compared to similar restaurants). Def give this place a try. I'd def come back. Welcome to the 'hood, Milkflower! Happy to have you!

Arrived on opening weekend and left satiated and happy. Considering how new Milkflower is, it's quite the scene. People were lined up for tables by 7pm! Honestly, everything we ate was delicious. Our table of 5 had the toast plate, the queen (mozzarella/basil), two Hawaiians (prosciutto/pineapple), the brussels sprout (truffle oil, pepper, egg), and the corn (bacon, goat cheese, chard). What may strike people as strange is that the pizzas come out one every 2-3 minutes or so; this is because they can only cook 3 pizzas at a time, but they cook within about 90 seconds at 1000 degrees. Flavor combinations are innovative and the crust is to die for!! Personal sized pizzas are about $15 while appetizers are $7-$8. Service was also great; everything was explained well from the outset and our waiter was very accommodating and attentive. Definitely a great addition to the Astoria scene!!

The rooomie and I came here for dinner and got The Queen and the beet/carrot salad. The salad was really good - fresh, well flavored, and the carrots were perfectly cooked, with fresh parsley. We enjoyed the pizza too, it was crisp and light and perfect for the summer. We came pretty early - around 5:30pm and were seated immediately, though by the time we left there was definitely a wait. I liked the open feeling, the burlap bag seat-backs, the thick wood tables and industrial decor. There is no outdoor seating, but you can go onto the back patio if you just want to have a drink. Inside the tables are kind of close together; we had a couple with a loud baby, and then a couple of loud friends... so cross your fingers that your neighbors will behave themselves. Other than that, the restaurant is very clean, service was attentive and friendly. The only downside is that the waitress suggested we share an appetizer and pizza and while it satiated me briefly, I was hungry again in an hour. These are not heavy pizzas... they are very thin crust with an artsy distribution of ingredients atop them. If you like a good meal, which I do, get your own pizza. We each also had ginger beers, served with ice and lemon (just like the bottle suggested!) and it was perfection. Our bill was like $40. For a casual meal out, or if I wanted to impress someone with Astoria's hip eateries, I'd definitely come back. But to fill up, I'd go other places first.

My fiance and I love this place. The prices are a little steep for the area, but you taste it in the food. It's the kind of restaurant that uses top quality ingredients. You can tell from one bite of the soppressata or their meatball appetizer. The place is also well decorated. Overall, top quality ingredients + nice decor + excellent service = slightly steeper prices. IT IS WORTH IT.

I'm a big fan of the Stun Dunn pizza (every conceivable kind of onion) and the Brussels spout pizza (it's got egg and truffle as well). The crust on the pizza gets those wonderful burnt blisters around the edges that come from the super-hot wood oven, which is something that's hard to find. The bottom crust is super chewy, could be slightly crunchier, but it doesn't take away from the overall quality of the pizza. The space itself is relaxed and well decorated, it's nice and toasty in the winter, and the servers are all very nice. I've probably been here 10 times and this is definitely my favorite in the neighborhood.

Not an accommodating place for a party more than 4. We are a party of 12, with a reservation and an empty restaurant and the service is still slow. I ordered the meatballs to start and they were very good. So good that I ordered a second serving. HOWEVER, the second serving seemed as though it was prepared by a different chef or a bottle of salt was dropped in the sauce. I am very disappointed. The pizzeria on your neighborhood block is just as good and half the price. I'm surprised of all the positive reviews. However, as I look around, you see the same clientele, Caucasian hipsters. I see why the reviews are the same. It's sad.

i have been coming in or ordering take out once a week from here since they opened to try every pizza--the hawaiian is awesome and the corn is pretty freakin good too. i repeated a pizza yesterday for the first time (the hawaiian) it was PERFECTION. Crust is just right and its always nice to wash down a pizza with an allagash. love this place--so happy to have in the hood.

I'm rating just on the food here. The people are actually great, the decor is great, everyone is nice and friendly. Problem is, the pizza's not very good! The food is not actively bad, but it's not actively good either. It seems like the owners were able to secure fairly good cheese and dough, but didn't actually have any experience as pizza chefs. There isn't anything wrong with new or creative pizza - in fact, I encourage new mixes of toppings - but the problem is, their flavor profiles are WAY off. It seems like the pizzas were designed by just some regular guy on the street instead of a chef - they really need someone with experience balancing flavors and tweaking dishes to really make them stand out - an actual chef! The pizzas themselves are cooked well - the guys cooking the pizzas to a great job creating what is on the menu - the big problem is just the menu itself. Again, the guys running it seem super super nice, and the place is BEAUTIFUL, and I do hope they succeed, but the pizzas just are not there yet.

Have heard such great things about the thin crust pizza here. I was not impressed. We did take out of 6 pies for a party. I can't say anything was bad but it wasn't great either... just your average thin crust pizza. The sopresata was pretty damn good though. After all the reviews, was expecting something out of this world and got a pedestrian experience.

My boyfriend and I stopped in at 7:30 on Saturday night, and were happy to find that there was no wait at all! We'd heard that not only did the restaurant serve gluten free pizza, but that they would make ANY pizza gluten free (a rarity, as most gluten free pizza lovers know). Unfortunately, it turns out this was a rumor started on Yelp (although I'd heard that there would be GF pizza options on the blog We Heart Astoria), and none of their pizzas can be made gluten free. They will, however, make gluten free toasts... but when you're hankering for pizza, toast just ain't gonna cut it.

Really good pizza. The burrata appetizer was so fresh! Hawaiian pizza and mushroom pizza tasted excellent. Better than most pizza places I've tried in Astoria. Cozy atmosphere and great selection of beer.

Milkflower has wonderfully attentive waitstaff. Milkflower has great, homey, modern yet chill-vibe decor. Milkflower has a wonderful cozy outdoor seating area. Milkflower has killer drinks. Milkflower offers lovely toasts. So why the two stars? Because I am a lover of sodium chloride. A serious one. I like salt in all my food. Put some salt on it, I will lick it. Yet something happened in Milkflower's offerings that left me drinking water *all night long* to offset the apparent 18 oz salt box that fell open on all my dishes (no, I do not think a salt box really fell open on all my dishes; I am trying to give the establishment the benefit of the doubt). Italian food often takes parmesan. When there is parm, not a lot of salt is needed. Yet: Our meatballs were salty. It was the dominating flavor. Our pizza was so oversalted, we could not finish it. The crust was also a bit on the over-burnt side, but was still edible. Why? I have read the other Yelp reviews, and I think I see the culprit to the over-salting. When people write "bland" the kitchen might overcompensate a little. Dear kitchen: DON'T DO IT. Next time (yes, I will give Milkflower a second chance) I will try the brussels sprouts pizza. I hear it is awesome. I hope it will not be a salt lick.

For a night out for pizza, this is a pretty expensive date. Good thing the service is great and the food is tasty. I suspect that going here as a group larger than two may be trouble because many of the groups of two were seated on a busy Saturday night within about 20 minutes, while I watched a group of three wait for what must have been close to an hour. They were comped appetizers (I think) and a bottle of wine, so they were happy and not complaining.

Some of the best crust I've ever had. Started with the burrata. Not a hard plate to mess up so I won't rave about it, but everything was fresh and it didn't disappoint. For the entree, we ordered the spicy sopressatta as well as the brussel sprout pizza, both were excellent. Wait staff was attentive and helpful; it was my two buddies and I and they were fine with us making a table for two into a table for three. Maybe worth deducting half a star because it's a small place and got pretty warm, but the food made it worth it. Check it out.

So far I'm a major fan of Milkflower. I've had the Burrata, the toast plate, the Hawaiian, brussel sprout and corn pizzas. I think my favorite dish has been the Hawaiian so far. The perfect combo of salty, spicy and sweet. Also, be sure to check out the gelato selection and don't be afraid of the black sesame. In addition to the tasty food, the staff at Milkflower is wonderful. I went on opening day and couldn't believe how flawless our service was. I can't wait to see what they show us next!

The Van Dammer is one of the best things I've ever eaten. We also got a spinach salad but it was just a ton of spinach with little else. Definitely just lean towards getting pizza. Service was fantastic too.

Great pizza. Had the Queen. Tomato sauce did not taste like the bottle up Ragu version, but homemade and fresh. Delicious...The basil they use for their pizza is grown by themselves. They just pluck it as they need so I thought that was really cute and fresh of them to do. Limited beer options, but they're a start-up business. We went on their second day of business and it was PACKED. My husband and I split one pizza (only came out to $10) and were sufficiently stuffed. We definitely have been craving it since then and are looking forward to going back. Looking forward to trying the sopressata and hawaiian. **Note: their menu said summer version, so I can only assume they will be adding more items or changing their menu as the seasons go along.

Yes!!! Finally a good spot in Astoria, where you can get a nice pizza and some beer in a chill, cool atmosphere. Waited about 15 minutes, but didn't really mind. The place is small. We had the Brussels Sprout pizza and added prosciutto to it. Very Tasty! Will be returning here again!

Friendly, accommodating staff, delicious pizza. Beer only for now, but ask to BYO wine from the shop next door. Pies are in the style of Paulie G's, but the dough and toppings are a bit heartier. Would love to see at least 1 pie with fresh spinach or arugula, but the ones we had were really great (Margarita and Spicy Sopresetto. Paulie G's is still my go-to, but Milkflower is nice change of pace from BK.

Milkflower's waitstaff is exemplary. You can taste how much they care about their ingredients. I appreciate that they don't cut corners in preparing their food and am more than happy to pay the extra buck for it. Easily among the best Astoria has to offer.

Milkflower is a welcome addition to the Astoria dining scene, especially since the area is really lacking in excellent pizza. The space is very cute. Brick walls and simple decor, with the huge open pizza oven in the center. Service was friendly and attentive. Now to the food... My friend and I shared the shishito peppers as an appetizer. These are wood fired peppers with a lemony dipping sauce. Very yummy. I ordered the basic margherita pizza (which has a different name that I can't remember) and added mushrooms. Everything about this pizza was delicious. The dough is the perfect balance of chewy to crunch, with a few charred spots. Sauce is excellent, high quality fresh mozzarella, and fresh basil complete things. The mushrooms were good, but there were probably a total of 5 on my entire pizza. My only issues with the place are that they only serve beer at the moment. Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike beer, but I'm more of a wine and cocktail person. Also, a lot of their pizzas are white pizzas, which isn't really my thing. With that said, this place is great and I can't wait for the backyard to open!

Five stars because: 1) Staff is warm, friendly and good-looking 2) BYOB at least for now (yay!! go next door and grab a $10 bottle of Alamos Malbec and you won't be disappointed) 3) THIN-sliced pineapple on the Hawaiian pizza (clever.. very clever) 4) Nearly every piece of food/decor has a worthwhile and interesting story. Those walls? Yea, they're from old barns in Oregon. I know, right? Amazing. 5) The arugula in my salad was picked that same morning from the largest rooftop garden in the country. I could die. The chef seems to have some interesting ideas. The lavender on one of the toasts was a delicious twist. Local, fresh, seasonal, family-owned goodness. I'm in! Oh yea, and the waiting area/patio in the back feels like you're at a mixer. Go ahead, make some friends. I dare you.

I have tried so, so hard to like this place and have visited on a few occasions. It's cool and trendy to be innovative and ambitious with toppings, but make sure you've mastered that crust first. Also, stay far away from the gelato trio. My dinner companion and I renamed the flavors to sawdust, toilet paper, and mushroom. I did not know this was even possible.

This place has a hip feel to it, reminds me of Brooklyn eateries and the food is extraordinarily fresh. At the time I went with my friend, it was a busy evening and there were very few spots to sit therefore we ended up sitting in front of the restaurant facing outside, which I had no problem. Service was somewhat delayed but it's understandable because of a full house. I was satisfied with the food and midway, I walked up to the pizza maker and watched him make the pizzas in the brick oven because watching food preparation is like watching art in motion. He was very friendly and answered my small questions I had. Despite the place being hectic, the pizza chef was still hospitable and the vibe over all was great. I would definitely come back again.

We came in with three kids, and the service was awesome. Everyone was great with the kids. We were there on a Sunday afternoon, and the vibe was perfect. The meatballs were awesome, toasts were great, and the pizza was yummy. For a hungry adult, get your own pizza. Definitely will return and will recommend to others.

I've tried it all and I have to say right after Luzzo's, this is the best pizza I've had. Cool spot in Astoria with great service and freakin awesome pizza. Go with the Spicy Soppressata, and the Brussel Sprout Pizza. Quick trip on the subway from midtown. Love this place. I'd eat it off the floor if I had too.

Fantastic, cozy gourmet pizza shop with super nice owners and staff. The appetizers are fantastic...you know the sauce is good when you are happy to eat it plain (get the meatballs!). The pizzas are excellent and are big enough for two to split for dinner if you get a starter too. Fun ingredients and combinations on the pies! Great gelato, great laid back decor. If you are in Astoria this is a must visit.

I wrote the review couple of months ago for this place gave it 1 star since when I came to try it out they run out of food. That made me angry and I decided to erase them from my memory . Well wish I did not. I came back few days ago even thought I was still mad and let me tell you, not sure was it the salad or the warmth of this place but I loved it. The salad with buttermilk dressing was superb, since I do not eat bacon I asked for toasted pepitos and it definitely took the salad to another level. Pizza with brussels sprouts was good but I feel like they need to add something maybe some sautéed onions to take it to another level. Overall can't wait to be back. Wish they are open during the day too. The only issues I had was that this strong candle scent was overpowering the place and all I really wanted to smell was yummy pizza and fried shishito peppers from the back kitchen. Would not be bad idea to serve some focaccia with some spread on the house as most places do.

I've been to this place many times now and I love every freaking pizza on their menu. Ingredients are fresh, the individual pizzas are just right so you get full and feel satisfied but you don't feel like a pig for eating a whole pizza. The crust is amazing, many people don't finish the crust on a pizza but this one is worth finishing. My personal favorite is the Arugula pizza with proscuitto, the Sausage with added Arugula, or the Chico Verde. Its a great casual environment, non-pretentious. Only annoying thing is they are EXTREMELY stingy with the wine. My glass of chardonnay was not even half full and I thought they were joking, then the server walked away. One time I was lucky to get half a glass. Yes I know its wine etiquette to not fill it to the top, but still. We're not in Tuscany. I want a nice big glass of wine with dinner after a long day.

5 stars from me! The pizza was absolutely fantastic - Personal sized pizzas you can mix and match if you go with friends (or just if you have a big appetite and want to splurge with yourself.) They absolutely nailed the crust - Perfect crispiness with that hint of smokey flavor. You can go for something more traditional or you can branch out to something a little more unique. All the ingredients are solid and you can tell they don't skimp out on quality. Outside of the pizza, the appetizers are also divine. The Burrata is a must try! And for as long as the meatballs are on the menu, I will definitely be ordering them. I don't really feel the need to write a lengthy critique of everything. In short - GO HERE. You won't be disappointed. I will be frequenting as often as I can.

Was here earlier tonight with another couple, and we are sure to come back! We ordered the meatballs as well as burrata and tomato appetizers. The tomatoes had a great spicy evoo sauce, and the meatballs were so good I wish they had an entree size. The arugula lemon olive oil pizza was the best out of the ones we got (corn on the hog, queen, Hawaiian were the others), although all the pizzas were tasty.

So glad I gave this place a try (it's so tempting to bypass it and go to il bambino!) the pizza is delicious but my favorite here has to be the meatballs. Why aren't there 20 of them? I lover the classic pizza and the one with mushrooms and kale.

This is my second time here and I love the simplicity of this place. A straightforward brick oven pizza place. I am a house fan of of the shishitos (peppers deep fried) but the soppresata pizza is the best! Keep it up guys and thanks for the solid comfort food:)

Not sure why the place is down to a 3.5. It's a solid 4 for me. The service was really friendly, from the hostess to the server. Beer and wine list is sufficient, and the brick-oven pizza is delicious! Prices are fair, atmosphere is cozy, but could definitely use some flair... a little on the plain side.

Great food at this place! Burrata is amazing, melts in your mouth, great flavor. Spicy Sopressata Pizza was very good as well. Great place to come for a light bit to eat. Nice craft beer and wine selection

The salads here are very interesting. Varied ingredients, and nice presentation. Particularly in my case, the string bean salad was great. The pizza was good as well. The simple pomodoro pizza (literally tomato sauce with garlic) was very tasty, but I wanted the cornicione (my favorite new word) to be a little less doughy. The second time I was there the crust had improved, it is thinner and more delicate now. This is wonderful. The toasts that they have are like cheating. They are so good.

A great addition to my neighborhood and definitely beats all the pizza-by-the-slice places that suck around Astoria. Great atmosphere and I love the cute little patio in the back although it's bench seating and you have to share with strangers. I've tried the Spicy Soppressata pizza which was awesome and actually was 'really spicy' so don't order it if you can't handle spiciness. I've also tried 'The Queen' pizza which is a basic, mozzarella, tomato & basil pizza but tasted fresh and very savory. I look forward to trying their other inventive pizza options, like the 'Corn', 'Brussel Sprout, and 'Kale' pizzas. A must try if you live in the area.

The pizzas are terrific and they have some creative options. The drink selection is pretty good too. I had the "nettles" last time I went, a white pizza with this sort of spinach-like green on it and it was delicious. The flavored are bold and authentic, though some may find the sauce a bit tangy. Generally the pizza has this sort of homemade artisan quality which is a plus. The atmosphere is very laid back and some of the seating may be a bit cramped but not ridiculously so. Also has a sort of a hipster vibe but the service was friendly and the ambiance relaxed. Apparently they have an outdoor section out back. This will be a go-to place for me in Astoria.

I guess I come from a place where I know what good food is supposed to taste like. I met the owners of the place on my second visit and their excitement about trying new things got me excited for them. I say good for them. Id much rather spend the money on a great, unique, individual pizza, than a large crappy pie. You get what you pay for. Someone on here gave them 2 stars after saying the staff was awesome, the dough was awesome, and the cheese was great. Whats wrong with you people. You'll never be happy and I feel sorry for you. Now that that's done. I worked at, and have been to some of the greatest pizza places in San Francisco and these boys are up there. They seem very proud of themselves and they should be. They aren't out there trying to make a buck, they're actually doing something they enjoy. This is the kind of business we should support. Good job guys. I came to you on a recommendation, and I will definitely send more you're way. You may just be too forward thinking for some of these people. Good luck. Oh, and so far I've had the corn, sopprasato, and sausage pizzas.

I really enjoyed this place. It's very cute inside and the people working there are very sweet. The mushroom pizza was really good. We also tried the Brussels sprouts pizza, which wasn't as good as expected (felt like something was missing from it). There are a lot of very creative but also traditional options.

I read about Milkflower on line and was dying to try it out since my kids love coal oven pizza and there aren't really too many choices in Astoria. Well, we went there all excited only to walk out in frustration. We waited for 30 minutes for a table for four. We watched at least 6 groups of two who came in after us get a table. I was flabbergasted than pissed off that these people couldn't hold one table for two while the next table finished. At one point, I watched three empty tables of two that could have easily been held while the table next to it opened up, but no, they had to give the tables away to whatever party of two came in. I was so frustrated and with two hungry kids, I was furious at this amateur hour. Anyway, this could have easily become our regular go to place for pizza, but will not be going back. And they weren't all that apologetic about the situation either. Their attitude about having us wait was very nonchalant. Needless to say, even though it says it's good for kids, it's not since they only have few tables for four. They don't have enough sense to push two tables together.

LOVE this place! I've been waiting in anticipation for milk flower to open and was sooo excited to finally try their mouth watering pizzas! I had The Queen (margarita) topped with the most delicious fresh basil leaves! I also tried the mushroom pie (white pie) & that was equally delicious. For appetizer I ordered the toast plate.. Omg.. Bursting with flavor! If you haven't been here, you must go.. You won't be disappointed. The staff is super friendly and attentive. Did I mention how awesome the interior is? You can really see the passion put in to building this place and you can taste it too!

the staff was really friendly and accommodating so i give them 5 stars. but personal sized pizzas? must be a new trend in astoria because this is the third place i've eaten pizza in astoria with these theme. i got the plain pizza (name escapes me.. perhaps the queen or something like that). it was just your average pizza. i did hear other customers rave about the tostinis? cool hipster place but just alright.

I was very excited for Milk Flower to open up, but sadly it did not deliver as promised on a few things. First off, I want to compliment the interior - gorgeous exposed brick, nice ambience, etc. However, I was shocked to see how expensive it is - for the Hawaiian and Soppressata pizzas, they were a whopping $16 and $17 each. Mind you, these are personal sized pizzas. Last time I checked, ham and pineapple were not particularly expensive ingredients to justify the cost. i went with a girlfriend, and our bill came to over $50 with tip. It's just pizza, people: good pizza, but pizza nonetheless. You'd be better off picking up a pizza at Rizzo's instead of coming here. I won't be back. Also, when I was there, it was evening and it was coming off a very hot day. It was comfortable outside, but for whatever reason, it was BOILING inside: it's a small place, and the pizza oven warmed it up considerably to an uncomfortable level. I'm not sure why the A/C wasn't on, but alas, it wasn't.

Love when new restaurants like this open up in the 'hood. We had the spicy soppressata with a touch of sweetness from a drizzle of honey and the Brussel sprouts with egg and truffle oil. Soppressata was our favorite only because I make a kick ass Brussel sprouts pizza at home. Can't wait to come back and try some more!

Nearly identical experience to Mark just a few days ago. Can the manager of this place please let the staff know that as the face of the business they need to be a little less, "oh hey...let us maybe or maybe not put your order in and then be rude to you about the whole thing"!!! Also...totally overpriced pizzas. This place is basically just a space for the cooler than thou hipster staff to look at eachother and give customers dirty looks and eye rolls. There are PLENTY of other great places to eat in this neighborhood. NEVER AGAIN.

Can't find too many good brick oven pizza places in queens that are good but this spot is pretty good. I got the jimmy snuka and it was amazing I love jalapeño and it had just the right amount and they had a craft beer selection, can't wait to try the other stuff on the menu

Un-freakin-believable. The octopus made my brain melt. Delicious pizzas with inventive toppings (nettles and hen of the woods mushrooms! Yes!) and a great beer list. Nice back patio. Server and hostess were both lovely (shoutout to our server who was wearing a Josh Ritter shirt, my favorite musician).

Came here for date night on a Thursday night around 7:30. We were seated right away and it didn't seem like anyone had a hard time getting a table throughout the night. That's not to say the place wasn't packed...I think they just have a quick turnaround, since the pizzas only take about 2-3 minutes to cook. We ordered a bottle of wine, so they couldn't really rush us. The place has a homey and comfortable feel. The staff was friendly but seemed like they were in a rush to get somewhere. Also, I appreciate that you love the food at the restaurant you own/work at. But when a customer asks for recommendations, don't list every single pizza on the menu! We ordered the meatball appetizer. So yummy! For this alone, Milkflower might deserve four stars. It definitely was the star of our dinner. We also got the pea & ricotta toast. It was good, not great. For pizzas we wanted to go simple to really get the feel of the authenticity of the oven, so we ordered the pomodoro. And then to go fancy, we got the spicy soppressata. The sauce on the pomodoro was good, but it didn't blow me away. I was dipping away in my side of parmesan. The spicy soppressata felt like it was ALMOST THERE. It was ALMOST amazing. Maybe because I'm an avid lover of Paulie Gee's in greenpoint, I was slightly disappointed with the pizzas here. This place is fine. If you're craving this type of pizza, its a good option. LIke I said -- good, not great.

3 of us went for a bottle of wine, 2 apps, and two pizzas. The wine selection was surprisingly well thought out (I usually find wine options lacking, or hellbent on Italian wine only, in brick oven spots like these. The meatball app was awesome. Tasted just like "Nonna's" and the other was a burratta served with sweet cherry tomatoes and refreshing basil leaf. pizza 1: don't remember it's exact name on the menu but it was a simple cheese and sauce-classic and perfectly cooked. The second pie was with Brussels sprouts and truffle oil among other delicious items-surprisingly light but also delicious and perfectly cooked. A must try for those who appreciate pizza made this way. It's also a great environment for good food, wine, and conversation. Service was awesome, no complaints. We had the gelato for desert...not sure how anyone can find a reason to complain about that. (Salted caramel was a favorite among all of us. I also really enjoyed the basil flavor.) Oh and yea...clean, well put together decorations.

This place is great! I went with a group of 5 and they were able to accommodate us on a Friday night. The waiting area in the back is cute and cozy and the staff is super friendly. The pizzas were great. If you're going with a group, definitely order a few so you can taste them all! We ordered the Hawaiian, the Mushroom, and the White. All were delicious. The slices are very thin, but that's good if you're trying to sample several pizzas :) The menu was very interesting and I definitely want to go back to try more of the pizzas! Definitely try the gelato trio for dessert....SO good.

I almost don't want to review this because I don't want other people to know about it and for there to be a huge wait in the future....but this place totally deserves 5 stars. Went with 4 friends on a Saturday night and the very nice host fit us in right away (I had called earlier and he said he would look out for us). We got a pizza each and split them around the entire table. Our server was really nice and helpful and didn't care (give us an issue) about us adding tomatoes to a white pizza (more on that below). We ordered the pea toast and the tomato confit toast. The pea was really good, but the tomato was beyond amazing. Absolutely phenomenal! We almost ordered two more...but decided to wait so we had room for our pizza. The brussels sprout pizza was phenomenal...so, so amazing that I am craving it again the next day! We added tomatoes to ours (pizza without some form of tomato just doesn't seem right to me), which I would advise if you also love tomatoes. It was amazing! I think it might have been bland without the tomatoes, but they gave it just the perfect level of flavor. We also got the kale pie, which was a sleeper hit. I expected to like it..but I LOVED IT! Perfectly cooked, crispy kale on top of pizza...absolutely amazing! Both pizzas had amazing crust and were just phenomenal overall. There was also a good beer list, so points for that also. I really can't decide which pizza I liked better. It was the best pizza that I have had...ever!!! Will definitely going back to milkflower!!!

After reading an article about this place we decided to switch it up and try something new. I had a craving for pizza so we decided on getting the plain pizza for my son and the special white pizza with heirloom tomatoes and mushrooms. The pizza was really good except the center was a bit soggy and the outer crust was a little burnt. Still was good and we ate everything. The toast plate was a real disappointment. It was hard to share. After reading good reviews for it I found 3 out of 4 were bland and lacked any real flavor. If we could get four pieces of just the avocado with balsamic one then I'd be happy.

Went here last night with a friend. It was pretty busy but we were quickly seated outside in the back at a picnic table. We had some beers and split a meatball pizza. The pizza were great and the meatballs were delicious. I definitely want to come back and try the meatball appetizer and some more of the pizzas!

This place should be better than 3.5 stars. I won't give it 5 because its not perfect but the pizza is special. Nothing really like it in Astoria. Oh the crust is so tasty & chewy. I had the Brussels sprouts with cheese, egg and truffle oil. Yowza it was good.

I'm a fan. It's a welcome addition to the neighborhood. The food is delicious. Especially that buratta, which they seem to take off the menu every now and then. Dont' do that! It's so good. The owners are nice and attractive. The waitstaff can be mixed as far as their quality, attentiveness, etc. but they are always attractive and hip, so there is that.

I live a block away and this area is a hot spot for some good places to eat! I was so happy to see a new restaurant...especially a brick over pizza joint! The interior is a really nice cool vibe with the exposed brick, etc. The ambiance was relaxing and fairly quiet! I can't wait to see what they do with the patio area once they finish it! Three of us went and ordered a different pizza each to share. The sausage pizza was by far the favorite of the table. The crust on all of the pizzas was DELICIOUS! We had the Brussells sprout pizza...it was surprisingly pretty good, but I probably wouldn't get it again. We had the peppers as an appetizer and they were tasty. Service was great and friendly (a really NICE and refreshing change from other experiences in this neighborhood with bad service). I'd definitely go back. My only "complaint" is that the prices are a little steep for the sizes you get....otherwise I'll be back!

My husband and I make it a point to visit Milkflower at least once a week. The food is absolutely delicious and we've never had a bad meal. The service is very friendly and typically pretty quick. We always start with the meatballs. They are absolutely delicious. We switch up our choice of pie between the Queen, Corn on the Hog and S.t. Ghost. Then we always top off the meal with a trio of gelato. The flavors change daily and we've had some great combinations. Favorites have included Milkflower, peanut butter, basil, hazelnut, dolce de leche, and strawberry. Milkflower is probably the best pizza in Queens. Hands down.

This place has a really cool look on both the inside and outside, but really, the food is just alright. The pizzas are composed of some really different, exotic ingredients but don't quite have that "wow factor" taste. Servers are friendly and helpful enough. If you're looking for that cool, dimly lit vibe and just want something small to eat (nothing's really all that filling) then this is the place to go

My friend and I happened upon this place by accident. We were supposed to go to Bareburger, but they were closed for a staff meeting. Oh, but what a happy accident it was! Warning: if you like thick crust, this place isn't for you. Also, they have a very small selection of pizza. But, what they offer is specialized and they do it very well. The wait staff is small, but they are very accommodating and make you feel welcomed. Van Dammer - My favorite... for now. The slightly runny egg yolk and the lightly charred Brussels sprouts taste combination is what makes this pizza a hit with my taste buds. If you like dipping toast in runny egg yolk, you'll love this pizza. My friend preferred the mild st. the ghost. Personally, I think it tastes like a puffed cheeto, a bit on the bland side for me. We had gelato for dessert. It came in a trio of flavors, but the blueberry scoop is the only one I can remember. It has a very creamy, oaty, interesting flavor. I recommend trying it for the experience.

I visited this place once and thought about it until I finally followed through to going again. And it didn't disappoint. It really is delicious and I'm happy it's in my hood. Each visit we ordered the Spicy Sopressata. You should too. So many of the other pizzas sound awesome, but this one really rocks my socks. Meatballs you say? Delish. The shishito peppers? Pft, only the most perfectly charred shishito peppers that you will ever lay your sweet little eyes on. I didn't want to eat them they were so pretty! And the portion size is bountiful! Ambiance is cool. Price is good. Service is better. Mmm, pizza.

The pizzas here are really flavorful and the wood fired oven gives a nice touch to their dishes. The Wood Fired Prawns ($12) was delicious and favors enhanced by the wood oven. However, don't say PrawnS on the menu when you get just one single prawn! (Nice try by cutting it in half. Still misleading.) The pizzas that we decided on this time was the Abe Froman ($15), and the Corn On The Hog ($16). The pizzas had a good bubbly crust and nice chew to it. The Abe Froman was your typical sausage pizza but the standout was the Corn on the Hog. It really had a nice texture and the goat cheese worked really well with the guanciale (pork cheek bacon) with a crisp topping of young pea leaves. A minus here is that they take a very long time to come out with the food. If you get a starter, it's even longer in between to wait. Regretted our two bite starter when we had to wait another 15 minutes after they cleared our plates and seeing people who came in after us, happily eating. They have wine and bottles of beer offered although they are often out of some of the more specialty beers they get. Prices are a bit high for the quality/size but still decent addition to the neighborhood.

YUM YUM YUM worth the wait! It's cramped and too small, but as is everything in Astoria. We got the meatball app- which the sauce and chunky and sweet and full of garlic and the shishito peppers, which I LOVE everywhere, we did have a jalapeno mixed in the bunch, oops. God the brussel sprout pizza for me, which had all my favorite toppings on it, the cheese and honey pie, which had no sauce and was nice and sweet, and the spicy sausage, which was spicy and delicious. I had some wine. It was a decent price for quality food.

Man, I'm going to start this review off with all the bad parts... . ... .... ..... ...... ..... ... .. . Yep, that pretty much sums up the bad. Now for the good...I had been wanting to come here for some time and since 2 months ago I moved ridiculously close by, now was a good a time as ever. Milkflower prides themselves on being a "Hip, rustic choice for gourmet wood-fired pizzas, Italian small plates, salads & craft beers" and they certainly live up to their description. My boyfriend and I came here for dinner on a Saturday night. It wasn't terribly crowded, but they were definitely busy. After about a 5 minute wait or so, we were seated at a table for 2 close to their outdoor dining area. It was muggy and humid out so we asked to be seated indoors where their AC was top notch. Upon reviewing the menu we both had some difficulty deciding on what to order. As an appetizer we pretty much wanted 3 of everything, but when our waiter suggested we get their meatballs we decided to go for that. Their meatballs are served with roasted garlic, a homemade tomato sauce, grand padding (one of the most popular cheeses in Italia according to the Googles) and basil. They were meaty, moist, juicy, well seasoned, extremely flavorful and all sorts of other positive and redundant adjectives that one can use to describe delicious balls of meat. This small plate was also accompanied by warm crostinis which I ate with the whole roasted garlic cloves...they tasted like butter...sweet, sweet, garlic butter. I love when garlic cloves just melt in your mouth {3. For our entrees, my boyfriend went with their "Queens" pizza which has tomato, mozzarella, basil, parmigiano and tomato sauce. I went with their Van Dammer which came with mozzarella, egg, brussels sprout, cracked black pepper and truffle oil...I asked them to hold off on the brussels sprouts because - gross, lol. They had no problem with this and didn't make me feel like an alien for not liking those stupid sprout things. Both of our pizzas were generously sized (ie. humongous) and delicious. Thin, crispy crust with good flavor and delicious toppings. We each had a slice of each other's pizza and we were both impressed by the freshness and yumminess. Our toppings both much have been kind of heavy for the crust as it began to get a little soggy towards the center of our pizzas, but it happens and mine had runny egg juice mixing with truffle oil all over it...mmmmm....so yeah, that happens. The boy was able to pack that pizza away, but I had to save 3 of my slices (and one of his that he had given me) of it and take it to go. It made a fan-freakin-tastic lunch the next day after I nuked it and threw some hot sauce on it. Service, ambience, food and menu - Milkflower has it going on and if you decide to check this place out, I'm confident that you'll have a fantastic dining experience. 5 stars and nothing less.

My first time here and it won't certainly be my last. We ordered a bottle of white wine and two pizzas. Spicy Sopressata Brussels Sprouts with Truffles Both were amazing!!!!! I usually favor the spicy Sopressata but I really loved the Brussels sprouts wow! A very close comparison to Motorino but flavours are different! Bravo to a delicious Neapolitan style place. I want to come back here for brunch!!!! Soon

Popped myself in here to pick up some to-go pizza for my boyfriend and I. Brick oven pizza is my favorite type, and since I don't live in Manhattan anymore, I was definitely on the prowl for a new go-to place. This place rocks. I ordered the Abe Forman (sausage and the works) and the Queens (your classic margherita pizza) and both were freshly made and ready to go for me in 15 mins. Looking around, the decor was pretty cool and their backyard area was large. When I got home, the pizza was still warm and still freaking delicious. Tasted fresh, and even after the trek home, the crusts were still crispy. So delicious that even my cat tried to get in on it, and she doesn't even eat pizza. New pizza place, will definitely come here for a sit down meal some time soon!

Amazing! I've had Milkflower bookmarked for quite some time and finally decided to check this place out on a Friday night with the hubs. Though we usually opt for places that accept resos, we were not disappointed that the wait was fairly reasonable, especially on a Friday night! There are benches in front of the restaurant as well to help pass the waiting time, which makes for a pleasant wait in the warm months. The food was absolutely divine. We ordered the shishito peppers as a starter and opted for two pies (see photos). Both were great options and super flavorful with the crust slightly charred. The Van Dammer was bursting with an aromatic truffle oil served with Brussels and an egg on top which makes it a unique pie standing out on its own. We opted to add an addtl topping of spicy sorpresata which added an extra punch to the palette. The Abe Froman was just as delicious served with red sauce and pork sausage. Both were made exceptionally well including the crust which was chewy and tender at the same time. What a great hidden gem! I look forward to trying out their other flavors and dining in the backyard patio in the months to come!

I think Milkflower has changed. We came here about a year ago: thin crust, delicious, fresh and you can taste the toppings on the pizza. As a party of 3, we consumed 2 small plates and 4 pies. This place was a bit too pricey for my liking (you do get what you pay for) but instead of heading all the way to BK for Roberta's (that is around the same $$ for similar style of pizza), I rather come here. We revisited Milkflower with fond memories recently and I was kind of disappointed. While service is still good, the the portions have diminished. Our octopus small plate came with one single small-medium sized arm, this for $15 in Astoria can be awkward. You can find octopus small dish/appetizers in the area for around the same that comes with double or thrice the amount served. My palate is not refined enough to pick wood roasted over gas grilled. Now the pizza, the crust continues to be good. This time they are quite stingy with toppings and the flavors were merely present. Our cherrystone clam pie was "memorable" because the fresno chili provided a kick. The pie's border crust rim were also wider than what I remembered and compared to all the older yelp food pictures. Meh. For $17, I expected more on this 12" pizza.

I've had this type of 'fancy' 'wood-fired' pizza a few times now and have been kind of disappointed by it. I avoided Milkflower for while because of all the hype but now that I've been I can say for certain that it's definitely worth a visit. We walked in for a Sunday brunch and we got the Abe Froman (for the meat) and the lady got the Arugula. I was getting ready to not like it, with the price of the pizza being a little higher than I wanted. My tune changed quickly though when the pizza came. I imagined that the Froman-would have a scattering of meat under the guise of 'gourmet' but I was pleasantly surprised. The pizza had a good balance of sausage with the other topics and definitely not on the skimpy side of topping placement. The arugula was also a good choice which had a little bitterness and crispness of the slightly uncooked arugula and the speck provided a nice counterpoint to it. Probably the best 'fancy' pizza place I've been to so far.

Exquisite. Burrata heaven. Pizzas are amazing. Great beer list. Service is amazing. I die for this place.

I've been wanting to come here for a while. Finally made it on a Sunday evening at 5pm and was slightly surprised how empty it was. The restaurant has very nice decor. And it's not just one or two highlights but you can tell there was attention to every little detail in the place. We ordered the bitter greens salad, wood-fired meatballs and the abe froman. The salad was great. The portion was much larger than I thought and it had a balsamic dressing but there was a nutty mixture (maybe the almonds) that really gave it a unique but delicious taste. The meatballs were satisfying. My frame of reference for balls (pause) is not vast but I'd say their balls would definitely give Meatball Shop a run for their money. The Abe Froman was also very good but at the same time, I've had better wood fired pizza. After eating it, both my fiance and I thought maybe we should've ordered a different pie. Not because it was bad but we just thought a veggie pie would've fit better. To me, the crust is such a big part of my pizza experience and I felt like abe's was a bit on the thin, flimsy side. Also thought to myself it would've been better with more cheese but I am also new to grana padano so who knows. It was pouring outside so we stayed a little extra and ordered the gelato which came with three scoops (dark chocolate, salted caramel and the other one which I wasn't able to pronounce). They were all pretty good and the added crumbs at the bottom made for a complete dessert experience. The rain kept pouring so I was in the back just enjoying the rainfall. I ended up striking a conversation with an employee (or possible owner) who was telling me about how they are growing grapes in the back. They plan to eventually make wine from it. I would love to find out when that is so I can come try it. Overall, Milkflower was a great experience. I may sound like I was knocking on the pizza but the food was great and I will definitely return to try other pizzas. My fiance also said this would be added as one of our regular spots. And the waitress was super awesome too. Oh and it's different food but I'd pick Milkflower over Il Bambino.

Nice simple decor. Great backyard seating area. Food is excellent. I got meatballs (meatballs are NOT meatballs..they can vary greatly. These tasted great and had the perfect texture...they were soft but not without some bumpy 'texture'. I much prefer tender meatballs that have sorta 'bumps', versus tender meatballs that are perfectly uniform and smooth on the inside and outside. Truly handmade meatballs are irregularly shaped, or otherwise if perfectly round and smooth, it usually means they were pressing/rolling the meat too hard, which results in the meatballs being less tender... These were perfect!( The sauce was also great. I also got burrata with beets. Very nice. And the piece de resistance: toasted peasant bread (I think) topped with fresh peas, pea tendrils, ricotta, slices of radish, bits of orange peel I think it was, and little slivers of fresh lavender. It was amazing!!!

Okay I admit I've had this pizza like ten times and still haven't written a review for this place. And the food never disappoints. Some stand out dishes are the ricotta crostini appetizer and the meatballs. Let's talk about the meatballs for a second. Those things are ridiculous. Like they may be in the top five meatballs I've ever had. They come with crusty bread you can dip in the perfectly seasoned tomato sauce. Mmmm these meatballs are a thing of beauty. Now onto my favorite pizza I always order. The Van Dammer. It comes with brussel sprout leaves, truffle oil and an over easy egg. You literally can never go wrong when you put an egg on something. This pizza is fantastic.. I just want to ask for extra truffle oil to pour over each slice of pizza. If you're looking for some quality woodfired pizza in Astoria look no further. This place is bomb

The Pizza was expensive for what it is, and was way too light on the toppings. This place is getting by on it's image, but in a culinary heartland, the food leaves something to be desired.

Went here for lunch and loved it!! Very nice environment - woody, warm and cute. We got a glass of wine, st the ghost pizza to share and the burrata appetizer to share. Loved everything. The pizza was very very good! Brick oven pizzas are very tasty and have a different sort of character to them! I would absolutely recommend this place! Very nice one of a kind pizza place! Def a place I would visit again!

I just have to give this place 5 starts for the service. For a relatively inexpensive joint they really blew me away by how attentive they were and how well they waited on their customers. I ordered a bottle of Pinot noir which was slightly warm (it was one the the first hot days of summer so I can't blame them). She happily took the wine to cool off and brought it back in a ice bucket. The meal came out perfectly timely and the menu suggestions and presentation of specials was excellent. As well as the dessert suggestion. I had a great experience here.

With Napoli-style pizza being so trendy these days, I get a little skeptical every time a new place opens. But we have wood-burning ovens! Wooden tables! Mason jar candles! I mean, c'mon. Hip doesn't always equal good, right? Well, let's just say it's a good thing I wandered into Milkflower one muggy summer night, because it does, in fact, deliver the goods. To start: I've been twice, and both times had the String Bean Salad. But Sarah (you may ask), how in GOD'S name could a string bean salad be that good? Well, dear reader, it just freaking IS. Crunchy string beans tossed with goat cheese, toasted walnuts, shallots and grapefruit, topped with herbs and a citrus-olive oil dressing. It's the perfect bowl of summer goodness, and the perfect light appetizer to make you feel better about eating a whole pizza. Which, let's face it, you aren't going to think twice about doing. I've had two pizzas here, The Queen (which is their version of the Margherita) and the Spicy Soppressata (topped with slices of crispy-edged spicy soppressata and drizzled in honey). That last one reminds me of that signature pie at Paulie Gee's, one of my all-time favorite NYC pizza spots. Like PG's, Milkflower has the wood-burning game on point; the crust of both pies was the perfect amount of chewy and charred, and the cheese was melted to ooey-gooey perfection. The ingredients they use here are fresh and paired nicely, and I loved every bite of each pizza. The service here is good, the vibe is really nice (okay fine, I'm into the wooden tables and the mason jar candles), and the food is everything you could hope for. Looking forward to coming back and trying more things! After eating my String Bean Salad, of course.

Pizza isn't a food I crave often but when I do, I want it New York style thin crust and made-to-order with fresh ingredients. Milkflower is all of this and more. Each pizza is personal sized and cut into 8 slices which is more than enough for one person and perfect for sharing. So far I've tried 4 different pies with 3 different people and the consistent fave across the board is the Spicy Soppressata (tomato, mozzarella, spicy soppressata, basil, chili, honey) - a delicious update from your basic pepperoni pizza; zesty slices of soppressata balanced with a hint of mellowing sweetness. The crust is just right - soft, with the right amount of chew. Bonus points for making their namesake ingredient, the mozzarella, daily in-house. And if that's not enough, all of Milkflower's pizzas are wood-fired, adding a nice smokey char to an already impressive foundation. Minor gripes: The room temperature varies greatly throughout the restaurant but I suspect this can't be helped because of the giant pizza oven. Avoid the seats closest to the oven if you can. What can be helped is the way they serve their wine: in small, cylindrical water glasses filled to the brim. Why not invest in proper wine glasses? Despite the minor flaws, it's still an awesome addition to the neighborhood. Check it out.

OMG I love this place. So cute and cozy with AMAZING food. We got the meatballs which would make my Italian grandmother cry they're so good. I don't think I've ever had better sauce. I was so blown away. The pizza is also mind blowing. The crust is great for the toppings which are fresh and flavorful. It's not your traditional pizza but the chef knows what he's doing.

As Queens star rises, Millkflower is a great addition to the Astoria assortment of spots. It could easily be a joint in Brooklyn, but then the uniquely. Queens vibe verberates. I love Queens!. I had wanted to try Milkflower for quite awhile. It's really residential on this stretch of 31st Ave- nice part of the 'hood. I went early, but folks dribbled in- more adults less carriages. Blistered Shisitos with aioli was a tasty start. A spinach salad was a tad underdressed. Oh the pizza- SUPERFLY-SNUKA is what spoke to me. With tomatoes, mozzarella, jalapeños pineapple and speck- spicy & sweet like me- was splendiferous! Like Houdini in Ridgewoid, Milkflower throws down some OD creative pies in a uniquely Queens locale!

I went to Milkflower with a friend from work, who loves this place and told me it was the best pizza in New York. I thought it was great. We had to wait about 30 min, but it was a Saturday night and they don't take reservations, so that really wasn't bad at all. The service was great once we got to our table. Meatball appetizer - This is my friend's favorite, and it did not disappoint. It comes with three meatballs in a delicious tomato sauce with bread. Absolutely delicious. Burrata appetizer - This was a special that came with walnuts. It was extremely fresh and delicious. Queen pizza with sausage - This is what my friend always loves to get, and it was amazing. The crust is so good - it's soft and chewy, and the toppings were also delicious. I loved it. I would go back to Milkflower in a second, and would love to try more of the menu.

If I had to choose between Roberta's or Milkflower, this place would win for sure! Let's start with a 15 minute wait time on a Saturday night for three. 15 minutes for such a delicious spot with a great ambiance is amazing! Now onto the pizzas - we ordered the vann dammer, the stunn Dunn, and the spicy soppressata. All three were outstanding. The Vann Dammer ($15) has mozzarella, egg, brussels sprout, cracked black pepper, truffle oil. The egg yolk and truffle oil gave the pizza a great flavor. The Stunn Dunn ($14) has charred onion, gruyere, scallion, red onion, garlic chives, mozzarella; I picked this particular pizza and my friend who wanted all three pies to have a red sauce LOVED this one. The Spicy Sopressatta ($16) has tomato, mozzarella, spicy soppressata, basil, chili flakes, honey. The honey and soppressata combo was to die for. We spent a long amount of time debating about our first, second, and third pick. I've never left a restaurant completely torn as to what dish was best until last night. If I HAD to choose, I probably would go with the Spicy Soppressatta first, followed by the Vann Dammer and then Stunn Dunn. However, all of us had a different winner if we were forced to only select one. Choose any one of those three and you won't be disappointed! Now good service is often hard to come by, BUT that wasn't our experience at Milkflower. Our waiter was extremely knowledgable and friendly! Check this place out! You'll be happy you did.

I went here on a cold thursday evening. It was very warm inside (in a good way) and we were seated immediately by an out of work musical theater actress who was much sweeter than she needed to be. We ordered these delicious shishito peppers as a small plate and then we got the stun dunn pizza-- which was basically a vegetarian option. We loved the pizza-- the crust was thin and soft-- the outer edges were thicker and had risen more than a regular thin crust pizza. We had the gelato at the end of the meal. The chocolate kind was in the bowl for about 1 minute-- while the strawberry and rose petal kinds went a little more slowly. I wish they had different salad options-- perhaps they'll change their menu every now and then. The place wasn't as vegetarian friendly as most pizza and italian places tend to be. All of this being said, I will definitely go back here.

I love the warmth of this place. The servers are friendly, you can feel the heat of the ovens firing up the pizzas, and it's hard not to sit down and relax, ready for a good meal. All the ingredients used are top notch and you can taste the freshness. The meatballs are delicious as are the toasts, the calzone is huge, and pizzas are perfect for sharing between 2.

There are so many fancy pizza places in Astoria, for this reason only I give it 3 stars because they just all cant be equal. (Antika is my #!) I had the Spicy Soppresata pizza and the calzone. Portion sizes were good, prices were comparable in the fancy pizza and calzone market (this ain't Vidalis!). The flavors were tasty, just not knock your socks off. Service was adequate, but slow. I understand not coming back and not asking for another beer (because it was masked by the can) but my water was dry forever! They have beer in cans, maybe I am a princess, but I want a glass! I would love a better beer selection (and glasses!)

Love Milkflower! Friendly staff and cozy space, with a backyard area for the summer months. The meatballs are my goto appetizer. Haven't been disappointed by any of the pizzas I've tried, though the spicy soprasetta and stun dunn are two of my favorites. There can be a bit of a wait on the weekends, I dont think they take reservations.

So this marks my return to Milkflower, a much improved pizza joint that cooks their pizzas a wood-burning oven. On this particular evening Milkflower was packed. I just returned from Seattle where I overloaded on Asian food so the GF and I wanted some NYC pizza; which we didn't get at Milkflower. What we experienced instead was Neapolitan style scrumptious pizza. She had some veggie laden pies while I opted for what they listed in the menu as The Queen (Margherita) and I added sausage. While my pizza came out before the GF's (odd) we eventually enjoyed both pies. The staff was efficient and to the point. Not much banter but that's ok. Overal we had a great experience nad we will be returning.

MMM Milkflower...I have been here 10+ times. The food itself is good for being a craft pizza place. The pizza has this amazing chewy crust, but I noticed the pizzas to be a bit bland. We ordered 2 varieties and I couldn't help but want to sprinkle on some parm cheese. (unfortunately there was none on the table, only red pepper flakes). However, if you ask they will gladly accommodate. Favorites include s.t. the ghost, the queen & spicy sopprespta. The restaurant itself is very cozy and the outdoor seating in the back is super cute! Since the restaurant was packed we had to sit outside, and our waiter moved us inside when a seat opened up. The music is kind of clubby, but it fits the vibe. Tip: The Shizito pepper appetizer with mustard dipping sauce is 5 star. It's light, healthy and a great start to any meal.

We ordered the string bean salad and meatballs and loved them. The clam pizza was awesome too! Ambiance was just what we wanted as we did not want anything too noisy or dressy. Our service was fast and the music was cool. Milkflower was clean and we had a really enjoyable dinner. Although we live on Long Island we have been dining in Astoria often... We will definitely be back. They have many different pizzas we still want to try.

Outstanding!!! I couldn't have asked for anything else!! Fast, courteous and professional service! Outstanding food quality! Sharp ambiance! We started out with the shishito peppers... Fresh, spicy, nicely blackened... Delicious!! We then ordered 2 pizza's (Superfly Snuka & The Ghost). Both were outstanding and we can't wait to try more of the pizza's they offer. Keep up the great work!!

Super cute pizza place. It can get a bit busy so I recommend reservations especially because the place is small. As starters we had these peppers that were delicious forgot the name and the meatballs. The meatball sauce was amazing sweet and garlicky. Meat was so soft but the sauce is what made the dish. As far as pizza , I got the sopressata, not sure if that's how u spell it... It was good not amazing I tried the arugula pizza and it was very good but the best one was the one with Brussels sprouts. Very unique and rich in flavor. I hate Brussels sprouts but the pizza was so good. Service was great attentive and patient. Def will be back but for meatballs

great pizza with a hipster atmosphere, I enjoyed it. The pizza gets a 3.5 out 5 but the service, price and atmosphere moved it up to 4 stars for me. Also there menu is interesting and doesn't try to do to much, just quality food for a reasonable price.

The decor is nice. They have a decent selection of wine and craft beer. Service is friendly. We were seated within 15 minutes on a crowded Saturday night. The meatball appetizer is excellent. They were easily cut with a fork and the sauce was great. We had their 'queen' pie and a clam pie that made its debut on the menu that night. The sauce in the queen pie is a bit too tangy for my tastes and I thought the pie could have definitely used more cheese. The clam pie had some very spicy peppers that didn't really seem to belong. The pie itself is nothing in comparison to a clam pie you'd find in New Haven style pizza. There was a real lack of clams on the pie itself. I think Naples style pizza just really isn't my thing. They tend to be on the soggy, doughy side, but I could see why others might enjoy it.

AMAZING!!! The owners Danny and Pete, two incredibly friendly, SUUUPPPPER HOT brothers, whose restaurant is a must see not to mention taste in Astoria, should be commended for their serious pizza-making skills. Sooooooo so SO good! The ambiance is a very low key, chill, sweet, romantic scene with outside seating in the back! We had Scott as our server and he was efficient, very friendly and extremely helpful with helping us select the best pizza for our party of four. Every single savory bite was beyond delicious! Some of the best pizza I've ever had! This is my new go-to pizza place in Astoria!

Milkflower's pizzas didn't quite do it for me. I felt the sum was less than its parts. Came here with the wife and we got the Abe Froman (tomato, garlic, charred onions, pork sausage, grana padano) and Chardi Sheen (swiss chard, mushroom, raclette, garlic, mozzarella). On the plus side, the ingredients were fresh and the crust was good. However my biggest problem with both pizzas were that the flavors were not popping. The best part of the Abe Froman was the tomato sauce but I would have loved sausage to be a bit more prominent. In the Chardi Sheen, there was no bitterness in the swiss chard - which is fine if you don't like bitterness - but then why would you get anything with swiss chard? The bottomline for me was that the pizzas weren't savory enough to justify their price tag. $16 for a 12" pie isn't cheap but I do appreciate that they put fresh ingredients there. IMHO, they need to find a way to bring out the best in them. I had to add grated parmesan to our pizzas and that's not a good sign for a pizza place like this. I can't help but compare this place with Basil which is cheaper and the flavors just explode in my mouth. All the other stuff was great. I liked the casual, modern decor and had no issues with the service but I didn't like the pizzas enough to come back here which is a shame because I won't get to try their supposedly awesome meatballs.

My boyfriend and I had a pleasant experience here mostly thanks to the awesome waitress/service and the wood fired pizza. Ordered: + Shoshito peppers (not their fault, but most of them were numbingly spicy) + Meatballs (these were fantastic!) + Abe Froman (yum) We'll definitely be back to try their other interesting options!

Milkflower is only receiving two stars and that's for their food. We ordered the Queen. For their service, well they get a straight up zero. I went here for dinner with a friend. The minute we walked in the waitress rolled her big eyes at us and pointed us at a table. She didn't even greet or welcome us, I had to tell her TWO because she was staring at us, so that she knew we were a party of two. No hello, no nothing. She didn't even ask if we wanted to sit outside (which we did) so I asked her if there were any tables outside and she just responded with a no. But the place was clearly empty and we would have waited if there was a wait. But again, that was not even offered. Ridiculous. But then when three hipsters walked in a little later, she asked them where they wanted to sit and then took them outside. What was that all about? Totally rubbed us the wrong way. When we were ordering, she made it seem like we weren't ordering enough entrees to satisfy our appetite. We're two skinny girls sharing a pie. She told us that wouldn't be enough, but not even nicely. She was speaking to us as if we were stupid. I honestly don't even know what she was thinking. We were full by the end of it. She then proceeded to take our plates and things without asking us. I had pizza in my hand while she snatched away my plate. The service here was completely unacceptable. The entire time she was acting as if she was doing US some sort of favor by working there. She was just rude and not friendly. But then was friendly with some of the other guests. If you're not happy with your job, then maybe you shouldn't wait tables. The owner/manager should really consider hiring people who understand what customer service is to represent the restaurant. I really don't get it.. There are PLENTY of brick oven pizza places in the area. I would try and go there instead. I honestly don't think I will ever coming back to Milkflower again and that's unfortunate because we really enjoyed our pizza (minus the burnt crust)...

Cool place for a pizza, milk flower is the translation of: fior di latte witch is another name for fresh mozzarella, pizzas have a nice crust, neapolitan style, the weird things are the names of the pizzas all in English, there you find a margherita called the queen, my favourite over all is one topped with Brussels sprouts, mozzarella, truffle oil and an egg! it would be an extra star if they would keep the names in Italian, have couple of classic ones and if they delivered. service is ok. good spot overall.

The spicy sopretto was not our favorite dish. It was a bit gamey for my taste. But the Abe Foreman was a hit as well as the meatballs. Service was good but this place definitely gets busy. It's a bit tight in terms of seating and definitely very warm from the brick oven. We'd definitely go again.

I finally stopped by this restaurant after hearing and reading so much about it. The ambiance is very rustic and cozy, which I loved. Dark and filled with candles for dinner. The food isn't that great, though. I had the sausage pizza and it's not that flavorful. I've had a ton of better pizzas in NY. Not impressed with this place.

Are you kidding me?!? I can't believe it's taken me this long to try Milkflower. And none of my excuses are good at all! Anyway, my wife and I *finally* got around to coming here, and hot damn were we missing out. Where do I even start? Just kidding, I know exactly where to start: THE MEATBALLS. If you're standing outside Milkflower right now, wondering if you should eat there, STOP READING AND ORDER THE MEATBALLS, STAT. These might be some of the best meatballs I've ever had. We only went with one order, and immediately wished we went with two. You will not want to share these. They're juicy, flavor packed, and the marinara sauce takes them over the edge. Next up? The pizza. We shared a stun dunn pizza, which was phenomenal. I thought I might miss the marinara on this specific pie, but nope! The gruyere cheese was a perfect match to the onions topping this beauty. You can absolutely share the pizza here. But that's all. The meatballs are an individual affair. You've been warned.

I'd been waiting to try this place out for a while, after passing by a few times. The decor and exposed brick wall is lovely and inviting. Finally had the chance tonight and I was not disappointed. We started off with the meatballs (each serving has 3) and it was covered in the shaved cheese and tomato sauce. Very nice and would recommend it. I rely enjoyed the spicy soppressata pizza- the dough was perfect, and there was just enough spiciness. Unfortunately I didn't taste much of the honey though. Overall, I'll be back to try more - I'm eyeing the Brussel sprouts pizza!!

  • Gabby B.

I don't think it's possible to order bad pizza here. Their selections are all unique, made just right, and are absolutely amazing. My sister and I (shocker) ate dinner here one night and ordered the spicy soppressata with honey and basil. Holy mother effing shiz balls. It was SO good. The crust was crunchy, the dough was thin but soft, and the toppings were on point. We also ordered the Brussels sprouts pizza with truffle oil and egg. This was also delicious, but a little too heavy, so I don't know if we would get it again. Still good to try though. Beer selection is good as well. Astoria... You did not disappoint.

This place makes pretty great pizza. It is interesting the types of topics and flavors bit all in all excellent. The size is quiet small and not very heavy pretty light and Peta like. I loved the Brussel sprout pizza. Friends had the meat ball and they looked pretty big and the sause was really good. I'd come back for the flavors and to try more stuff on the menu but I would snack first haha cuz it wasn't filling.

If you want great food and service in a nice, cozy atmosphere, this is a really great place to come for a satisfying pie. This place feels like it could be in Brooklyn: from the bearded guys making the pizza in the open kitchen, to the exposed brick wall decor and low lighting, it's a hip, fun atmosphere. Before we get to the excellent pizza though, we also had some really great stuff to start. We got the Meatballs ($9 for 3), which were so incredibly soft and juicy, bathed in a copious amount of sweet tomato sauce. It was also accompanied by two pieces of crispy, buttery bread to enjoy them with and to soak up that good sauce. Since that bread and the pizza of course wasn't enough carbs, we also tried the Toast Plate ($12). This was an excellent selection of more of the great bread, each one topped very generously with different combinations of toppings: peas, ricotta and lemon zest; tomato confit, goat cheese and toasted walnuts; leeks, chorizo and shaved egg; and prosciutto, chimichurri, and burrata. Some of those sound like strange combinations, but they were all really good. I think the one with the peas may have been the best. On to the pizza, there are 10 pies to choose from, with the option to customize them with additional toppings ranging from $1 - $3. We of course chose the Spicy Soppressata ($16), since pepperoni is always the best, and it was amazing. We also got the Van Dammer ($15), which consisted of brussels sprouts (get the name?), mozzarella, egg, cracked pepper and truffle oil. I wisely decided to add on some sausage for $3, which made this a really excellent combo. I still think the Soppressata pie was the better of the two, but I loved both. The crust was the kind that is really chewy, so if that's not your thing, you might not be happy here. Service was great, and everything about the meal and the experience was top notch. I would definitely return to try some more of the great pies.

Just had a perfect margherita ("queen") here. Spot on cook, moz, basil, tomato, and most importantly crust. the addition of shaved pecorino was a smart and delightfully salty choice. The zing from the basil and tomato combo goes into that fruity/citrous almost passionfruit territory.

Brick oven pizza, you can never go wrong with brick oven pizza. A couple of friends and I came here and split two pies. The pies are a little larger than the size of a typical dinner plate. The outdoor seating in this place is beautiful and it's nice to get a summer breeze while you eat your pizza. The "queen" is a typical margarita slice. The pizza was crunchy the sauce was very flavorful, and it was all around a great pizza. The spicy sopresata! It's like a pepperoni pizza but so much better. The spicy and salty combination is enhanced by the bit of honey this place mixed into the pizza!

Tremendous. The best italian food I've had in a while a certainly the best italian I've had in New York City. Had the Pomodoro Pizza with pepperoni and it was same of the best damn pie I've ever had in my life. Also had the meatballs and I damn near lost my mind. So good. Tried the different toasts and I was simply blown away. I can't wait to go back. This is what Italian food is supposed to taste like.

Finally tried this place tonight after months of wanting to. It's difficult to walk right next to Il Bambino while hungry and not go in. It was relatively empty on a Thursday evening and our pizzas came out pretty quickly. I split the Spicy Sopressata (sopressata, red pepper, honey) and the Superfly Snuka (prosciutto, jalapeño, pineapple) with one other person. The pizzas were perfectly cooked - the outside crust and toppings were slightly charred while still having great texture. I loved the sweet/spicy combination of both of the pies - the Superfly was a little skimpy on the prosciutto, and for that reason I preferred the Sopressata. Service was friendly and attentive. I docked it a star because I do feel it's a bit overpriced. Just two pies and water to drink was over $40 after tip, and I wasn't stuffed or anything. The pies were about 10" and fairly thin. Honestly, I could easily eat two of these delicious pizzas myself if I didn't have to deal with the shame of doing so. Still though, if the pies I ordered were $13, or 2" bigger - I'd feel more comfortable with the price point. Still a great dinner and I'll be back to try more pizzas!

Very casual, cute sitdown for pizzas. The pomodoro and white pizzas were delicious. They are not as thick or deep dish, very light and thin from brick oven. Service was fast and attentive. There was a 20 minute wait on Friday night but overall it was worth it. An Astoria pizza must try!!

If you read my previous review, you'll see how upset my first experience at Milkflower left me. It upset me enough that I didn't eat there for over a year, even though it's less than a block from my apartment. A few months ago, I had a friend visit me who really wanted to eat there, so I (very) begrudgingly agreed to go. We were seated right away, the staff was extremely polite and helpful while also giving us enough space to enjoy our meal in privacy, and most importantly, my pizza was delicious. Still, my last experience was such a disaster, that I was not entirely won over yet. Another friend came to visit, and was in the mood to eat outside. Il Bambino was packed, so we stuck our heads into Milkflower and were happy to learn that they also have a nice garden that had plenty of open tables. We were starving, so we ordered the meatball appetizer as well as a really interesting sounding pea and peasprout crostini, along with two pizzas and a few beers. The meatballs were very tasty but the pea crostini were out of this world and reminded me of things I've eaten in much more expensive places. There was a small snafu with our pizza order (it never made it to the kitchen), but it was quickly resolved after we chased down our sincerely embarrassed waiter. To make up for making us wait, they gave us a healthy discount off the check, without us having asked for anything, which was a very nice gesture. That, and the fact that the crazy egomaniac I encountered during my first visit seems to not work there any longer, have wooed me over as a fan. I'll be back, often.

This place is a solid 4. We went on Valentine's day during a full house and the service was a bit flawed. They just forgot some people and left them waiting and they also left us waiting for our bill too. The food is pretty good. The roasted marinated peppers & burrata toasts, black olive oil, anchovy was pretty good except there wasn't enough peppers... The string beans, radicchio, orange, goat cheese, toasted walnuts, shallots is on point. It's worth every penny here. Nice, light, summery and refreshing. We ordered the Abe Froman pizza... it's a cheese-less sausage pizza... it wasn't bad but there was something missing. Definitely worth going to. Good vibe, good atmosphere, prices aren't bad too.

I stopped here for some takeout when I first moved to the neighborhood. The pizza is tasty and the meatballs are fantastic, even to go. I am tempted to go back for dine in but the restaurant seems a bit mismanaged and it would be a serious time commitment. Also, they don't take American Express...I find that very inconvenient.

The pizzas are great, but you're seriously missing out if you don't try the apps! The meatballs are ridiculously delicious. The salads are always fresh and tasty. I've really enjoyed everything I've tried at Milkflower so far. Plus the general atmosphere is nice: great music, interior is well designed, and friendly staff. It can get pretty warm inside near the open kitchen area, but the back wall seating is usually a cooler temp. Did I mention the meatballs?

For me, this is the best pizza joint in Astoria. Not just because their wood oven pizza's are great topped with interesting ingredients but because their salads and apps are given tons of love and attention. Ricotta, avocado toast with olive oil and black pepper?! Nailed my tastes. T he owners of this neighborhood joint are 2 young brothers from the hood (I think) and are super nice too boot. We asked one of them why they don't deliver and his answer won me over. "We can only cook two pizza's at a time and we want the people dining in to get the best service". That takes some serious restraint to pass up potential extra income for quality controle! I'm not above $1 slices either but for a casual sit down joint, my money's going here.

This is my new favorite pizza shop. My husband and I have had Milkflower 4x in the last 4 weeks (3x take out, 1x eat in), and plan on having Milkflower tomorrow. I think on each occasion one of us has ordered the Van Dammer because it's just that stinkin delicious. I usually gag at truffle oil, but it's used very sparingly and adds that extra note of richness that makes the pie that much more special. I also love the spicy soppressata (they add honey! so perfect!), the abe froman, and was completely surprised and delighted by the superfly snuka (jalapeno + pineapple, can't believe that works!) Not only are the toppings inventive, delicious and thoughtful, the crust is just so great. Chewy, crisp, with just enough char... I can't rave enough about this pizza. We also tried the meatball app, which was good, but I have to say the real star for me was the sauce the meatballs sit in! I would order a bowl of just that sauce so I could scoop it up with the pizza crust from the Van Dammer. YUM.

Since my benchmark is Basil, I was skeptical about this, but I have to say It was really good and glad to have two great places in walking distance to my place. The spinach salad was really good maybe better than the pizza. We then followed with an Abe Froman, which was light and I loved the fact it had little to no cheese on it. Staff was great and they had had Narragansett for 4 bucks.

Sadly, my girlfriend did not have a good experience at Milkflower. :( She ordered the Brussels sprouts and egg pizza which she specially ordered "not runny." However, when we got it, the yolk was very runny. She wasn't able to eat it at all. And she was looking forward to eating this pizza all day after a bad day at work. Although, they did let her return a beer she didn't like.

For specialty "gourmet" pizza, this is the place. They have a nice wine list to go with the super tasty individual sized pizzas. I've had two sides or salads and they were both done to perfection. Ingredients are fresh and high quality. I am definitely returning!

Forget Roberta's and Paulee G, they've got nothing on Milkflower. The pizzas are amazing: creative, great ingredients, delish. The cheese platter and burratas are also really worth getting. Bottom line: pizzas are as good and better than at the more famous Brooklyn spots, but the prices are better here, there is little or no wait most of the time, no tourists, plus Milkflower has really really good non pizza food as well.

Yum! Delicious trendy, different, fresh pizza!Meatballs are really good. Not the place to go if you feel like a typical NY greasy slice of pizza dripping with oil and cheese. Milkflower puts out more sophisticated stuff. In a good way, though! Brussel sprout pizza with truffle oil. YES.

  • Dev O.

I love this place so much. I Haven't eaten anything here that I don't like. The blistered peppers are amazing (you could prob skip on the aioli if your not into black pepper), the meatballs are insanely good and even the bread that comes with it is perfect. You MUST have that Van Dammer. The brussle sprouts and egg work perfectly together and its light. The only complaint I have was the service. They were really nice just super slow before they came and took our order. But other then that, this place is a must go!

The cutest old school pizza shop in Queens! I hold astoria so close to my heart because it is the williamsburg of Queens without the lengthy travel to brooklyn. Went here with the significant other, had the queen and the abe forman pizza. To die for!! The sauce is amazing

Just finished up a great casual pizza din here. Pizza is great with a superb crust and nice flavors. Wine selection is minimal by the glass. Loved the Abe froman. Very friendly waiters and waitresses. Can't wait to come back!

I want to marry this place. The pizza is TO DIE FOR. The string bean salad started the meal off right, the Abe Froman pizza took me to the edge of glory, and the Van Dammer threw me over the edge. Ever since this amazing experience I have been drooling in my sleep, dreaming of this meal. Dear Lord.

Milkflower. What a strange name. One of my good friends is in love with this place, so I've been here 5-6 times. It has always been about 10 degrees hotter than I'd like it to be, as evidenced by the beads of sweat that form everywhere on my body (yes, even *there*) when I'm dining in here. The food itself is not bad. I'm not blown away by the pizza, but it's decent. My first experience was with the truffle oil pizza, and I didn't really have a strong desire to return. I'm pretty sure there were other things on the pizza, but all I could taste was truffle oil. I'd imagined as they were making it, one guy initially put some truffle oil on, and another guy thought the first guy had missed it, so he put some on, and then the original guy came back and forgot if he had put truffle oil on it, so he put some more on just to be safe. However, the times I've been back, the entire place has had a scent of truffle oil, so maybe that's just how it is. This is coming from someone who loves truffle oil. But that is simply overkill. Anyway, I've tried a good amount of their pizzas, and it's doable. Not my first choice, but I don't mind going whenever my friends want to come back.

On a gloomy Sunday morning, I wanted some yummy brunch food. Boyfriend hates going to Astoria due to parking and the long wait but it was still fairly early so we decided to head out to Astoria to go to Sanford's. I've heard so many good things about that place but there's ALWAYS a line! They told us 25 minutes, which isn't too bad, but we were too hungry to wait.. so we decided to try Milkflower for some good pizza.. and we got exactly that! GOOD pizza! It's a cute place but the tables are too close for our liking but that's expected in any restaurant in Astoria. We got seated right away, the meatballs are so so sooo good. It's a must when you're dining here. I ordered the van dammer which is the brussel sprouts pizza with an egg on top, boyfriend ordered the arugula pizza with sausage. We liked the arugula pizza but it was just too much arugula for us.. we loved the brussel sprouts pizza though. It was so simple yet just enough flavor so it wasn't just a boring pizza. It was perfectly cooked with just enough brussel sprouts on top. The egg is only in the middle of the pizza and I wished it was more spread out but it was still delish! The guys that work here are super sweet also. They made sure our water glasses were always full, gave us new plates after our appetizers, check on us to make sure we were doing ok. I loved that they were always around when we needed them but wasn't annoying us every 5 mins. Definitely coming back to try the other pizzas!

Milkflower is a great place to enjoy some appetizers, pizza and wine. Restaurant has that refurbish look with brick walls (very 80's), distress wood, mix match chairs, overall a well designed space. Music cool and a small backyard for outside seating. Great place to chill. My purpose last night was to have dinner and some wine, but at $75 for a meatball app, a spicy soppressata pizza and a bottle of Malbec it was a little pricey. Maybe I am getting old. I grew up with coffee at 50 cents, gas at 50 cents and subway rides at 50 cents. I wonder, did I have dinner with wine or wine with snacks. Now the important stuff, the food. The meatball app seems to be a big seller here. Every other table had an order. It was a delicious mixture of soft tasty meatballs with marinara sauce top with shredded Parmesan. It was slightly salty due to the cheese, but the mixture of beef and cheese exploded with flavor. Three pieces at $9 with one small slice of bread; com'on man. Lay out a few more bread slices, guys. The sauce was awesome. The spicy soppressata pizza was delicious. Soft, light, easy to eat and by this I mean the pie was more of the personal size. I could have easily finish my spicy soppressata pizza by my self. The soppressata was crispy, which I like, but not very spicy. Overall, a high quality pizza that was perfectly cooked. At $16, the price of an entree. Malbec wine at $32 was good value for a red table wine. Complimented the full flavors of the food. Nice wine service. Service outstanding. Some of the best service ever. Checked back after every course. Busboy exchange a spotty plate without asking. Table was serviced a couple of times. Five star service across the board. Server M on Tuesday 03.18 you did a great job. Credit Cards accepted, but no AMEX. Bummer; no reward points. Tip: don't get the last table by the back wall. Cold with a breeze. Ownership needs to address this. While my wife and I decided not to move; this issue should be fixed. Also, if you sit in the back area and face the kitchen; you will be blinded by the light in the kitchen. Very annoying. Overall, I have mixed feelings about this place. If I was going for a bottle of wine and enjoy some food; great value. Going for dinner, Milkflower is pricey for pizza. Like I said, I was still hungry and at $75, oh well. I know this is a quality product and not your dollar slice, but pizza is one of those food groups that is inexpensive and filling. I guess I am paying for that hipster ambiance. Remember coffee was 50 cents before Starbucks. I will certainly go back, but not when I am hungry. Maybe.....

Tried a pizza with brussels sprouts and another with three kinds of onions, and both were inventive, original and tasted just great!! The (thin) crust was particularly delicious. Actually we had a hard time deciding what pizza(s) to order as they had so many interesting flavor combos on the menu. Looking forward to going back!! Edit: I decided to up this review from 4 to 5 stars after my last visit. Tried a salad with shaved fennel as well as a new pizza with kale and both were just excellent. Top choice.

What? Yet ANOTHER delicious surprise that popped up on 31st ave? YESSSSS. This place is small, warm, and cozy. The service is super friendly and competent. Try the Toast, it's 1 per order, you can cut in half and split if you want to try a few flavors, which.. you do. We got the crushed pea+lavender one... I'm not even a pea fan, but now I am. It was really wonderful. Also tried the leek one which was also good, but the pea one was better. The mushroom pizza is perfect... it's basically a white pizza with truffle oil and mushrooms. The bread is thin from their brick oven so it won't overfill you, it's on point. The prosciutto, fig arugula salad is also wonderful, I make something similar at home because arugula is my fave. Next time I'll try some dessert and wine, because, there will be a next time. Very happy about this place!!

After a long day of work my wife and I decided to go to milk flower for dinner, the decor is awesome, the logs and wood finish give this place some unique character, the staff is super friendly, we were very comfortable, I am a huge breaking bad fan, my Mexican cola was served in a "los Pollos hermanos" pint glass, the pizza was great, we had the spicy sopressata and the arugula and prosciutto pizza, they were both delicious. Definitely a great place to go.

I really don't know why it took me so long to go here. Really great pizza with unique topping combinations. We split two pies between three people, along with a bottle of wine, and walked away satisfied and happy. The Spicy Sopresatta (tomato, mozzarella, spicy soppressata, basil, chili flakes, honey)pizza was killer--not too hot and well balanced with the other toppings. And the Stun Dunn (charred onion, gruyere, scallion, red onion, garlic chives, mozzarella) was just...awesome. Really. The crust was blistered perfectly and had a great chewy texture. Can I go back now?

I really like this place: it's around the corner from my apartment, has a really nice backyard, the wine list is good, and the vegetable sides are uncommonly tasty. The pizza's nice too, but I think I keep going back for the string bean salad, little gem lettuce salad, shishito peppers (although admittedly how can you screw those up), and the consistently pleasing by-the-glass wines.

  • Dianne C.

Great service, lovely decor, great food. I had the meatballs, which were divine, and the queen, which was just ok. Not my type of pie/crust consistency. I think next time I'll try a pie with fancier toppings to associate it less with traditional pizza and more with it being it's own special thing.

When you go out to dinner with someone other than yourself, you have to compromise. Thankfully, it doesn't matter what you order at Milkerflower because everything on the menu is delicious. See, if there is burrata on any menu, I am ordering it. Unfortunately, I had to compromise as "too much cheese" was an issue (too much cheese is a friggin blessing, if you ask me, but whatever, I digress). We ordered the shishito and the meatballs to start. Didn't really think a plate of peppers would be so appetizing, but it was! So tasty! And lucky me, I ate the only spicy one in the bunch that had me sweating out all of the weekend's toxins. I'd still order shishitos in a heartbeat. The meatballs were the biggest balls I had ever seen. I mean, BIG. 3 balls. Big, tasty balls. I'm not even all that big into meatballs and these were very delicious. Now on to the main course: we decided to split the brussel sprouts pizza because it was unique and because anything with truffle oil is automatically awesome in my book. This pizza did not disappoint. Very tasty, but also felt healthy. The wines are a little pricy. Ok, $9, but for a small glass. Feel like they should have more options or a more generous pour. My only qualm with this place: brunch. One of the chef's told me there would be brunch soon and I've been patiently waiting for that day to come. Oh, and don't pay attention to the bad reviews. I have a feeling some people are expecting dollar slices here and that's not the ambiance or vibe this place is giving off. This is a nice potential date spot with quality pizza with quality ingredients. Prices are comparable to other similar pizza spots. I love this place. Will be back soon to try the burrata and hopefully to check out their brunch.

Pizza was really good. Went with the classic Margherita. One thing that blew mind my mind were the meatballs... best meatballs I've ever had!! They were so good I'm not sure if I ever want to order them again in case it doesn't meet its expectations from the first time. Fancy pizza spot to take your date on, not your regular pizzeria.

Parked only a few stores away from Bareburger and Il Bambino's, it was through random chance that we ventured into this place to try out the menu (in the mood for some italian food). While the reviews on the pizza seemed like they were a go to, we decided to instead opt for the meatball small dish and two of the calzones instead. The meatballs were really delicious, and the marinara sauce that came with it was top notch. Incidentally, I think the same sauce came along with the calzone, but hey it's an italian restaurant so I'm not all that surprised. While it was a prosciutto calzone, the prosciutto (since it was in the calzone) was cooked so it basically tasted like ham. It was good, but not quite what I was expecting. I think next time I go I'll probably just try a few of their small plates and the pizza.

Just had a fabulous meal here. Highly recommended. We had the burrata, avocado toast and meatballs to start with. Everything was full of flavor, meatballs were delicious, soft in a delicious sauce with lots of sweet garlic. Also the bread that everything came with was delicious, many times that's not the case. Now onto the pizzas, first of all the crust is perfect, charred enough, not too thin, chewyjust perfect, and you can pick a slice up without it falling apart. We had the Abe Froman with sausage and onions and the Stunn Dunn with Gruyere, scallion, red onion and a tiny bit of honey, so good. Can't wait to go back.

Went on a Friday, party of two, for apps and pizza. Had the meatballs-- tender, garlicky, in a delicious sauce. Also tried the asparagus which was also very good although I regretted spending $12 on them. Next came the pizza. Perfect chewy slight crispy dough, and saucy. Just how I like my pizza to be. The Abe Froman was delicious- toppings were generous and tasty. Service was great- plates cleared when we were finished which each course, drinks refilled, and we didn't have to wait for the check or for our credit card to be processed. Love this place!

Terrible terrible terrible.... Food is way overpriced, and mediocre at best. I thought at the very least they would have decent pizza but no, God awful topping choices. Honesty the worst part is that the entire time you have to listen to them chopping wood in the back like freaking lumberjacks, they have to be the most inconsiderate neighbors of all time. I wish I could give 0 stars because they deserve it for being terrible people and having mediocre food at outrageous prices

I had the pleasure of going here for dinner last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. The menu had a number of interesting items that our waiter Nathan was able to explain perfectly. We went with his suggestions and was not disappointed. The ricotta fig appetizer was by far the most surprising and delicious. Completely unexpected and almost decadent. Nathan suggested the truffle oil pizza as well. This was a piece of perfectly baked heaven. The brussel sprouts were lightly charred and complemented the truffle oil very well. My mouth is watering thinking about it! The appetizers and pizza entrees were served with perfect timing. This kitchen knows what they are doing. Go here and ask to sit with Nathan. You will be in good hands!

My husband and I really love this restaurant. First off, the decor is super cute. I understand there is an outside area as well, but I have not seen it yet. Their meatballs are phenomenal- super light and fluffy. The first time we were there my husband, who is an NYC chef, had to ask one of the chef/owners about what they used in them because we loved them so much. Their burrata is also great. They have some great, fresh salad options and the pizzas are delicious as well. I especially like the spicy sopressata and the Brussels sprout. I would definitely recommend checking out Milkflower if you have the opportunity!

Wow! The brothers Arreagatos are killing it at Milkflower. Peter and Danny's great new restaurant in Astoria is the perfect blend of go to place for comfort food and special night out. The menu is simple and manageable, yet artisanal and delicious. The decor and ambience are warm and inviting. Red brick urban and steel boho chic meets favorite rural general store with reclaimed barnwood, white glazed tiles, solid wood tables and comfortable seating. Very clean and cool, plus there's a patio out back! Milkflower specializes in great pizzas from their wood burning oven. Their original offerings feature creative toppings with equally imaginative names such as The "Stunn Gunn," with its charred onion, gruyere cheese, red onion, scallions, garlic chives and mozzarella and the excellent "Superfly Snuka" hosting tomato, mozzarella, sweet pineapple, jalapeno(!) and speck...unprecedented flavor bursts build on themselves. Where can you go where the next bite is always better than the one before?! Our tastebud's home base is their "Queen", Milkflower's version of the classic Margherita pizza only cheesier, saucier and way more delicious. We always pair it with one of their other unique pies to create a wonderful juxtaposition of competing storm front flavors. Knock 'em down with a cold, crisp Narragansett or a glass of wine...or four! Now slow your roll for a sec to consider their small plates and hand crafted salads. Milkflower's velvety ricotta and figs with honeycomb and thyme is a truly appetizing and exquisite dish! Or, the deeply satisfying avocado toast with aleppo and sea salt...delish! The salads are crisp, fresh and seasonal. The delicately dressed spinach salad with feta is really lovely and refreshing. Work your way blissfully through each and every item...every combination. You will not be disappointed. Desserts, wait they have desserts?! I'm sure they're fantastic too, but we have yet to leave any room for them! A special shout out to Jan who brings a spark of delight and buoyancy to her service....giving every diner that great, warm feeling of being singular and special. Thank you Milkflower! Love, Cliff & Maria

This place is amazing! I've tried multiple pizzas there, but I find myself coming back for the Chico Verde: the spicy kale pizza...and the Burrata!!! out of this world...olive oil drizzle with tomatoes and fresh garlic, balsamic reduction and crusty bread... I dream about this haha. I think they only offer gelato for dessert, but we got it for the first time the other day and it was so yummy! The three flavors that night were mascarpone, blackberry, and hazelnut chocolate which tasted like those a cross between ferrero rocher chocolate candies (only better) and nutella.

I really wanted this to be my go to Pizza Restaurant in my new neighborhood. I just moved out to Astoria a few weeks ago and went on yelp to check out the restaurants and bars in the area.. I found Milkflower on here and read a ton of great reviews and saw pictures of delicious looking pizza. I made sure this would be one my first stops. I came on a quiet Wednesday night around 9. I was pretty impressed entering the restaurant. The place gives off really cool relaxing vibes. It was dimly lit inside and made for a nice dinner atmosphere with my gf. We started off with a bottle of wine ($33) and one of their salads. The salad was simple but was very tasty. We ordered two pizzas to share. One with brussel sprout and egg and another with spicy soppressata drizzled in honey. I hate to say it but I was disappointed with both. The brussel sprout and egg was extremely dry and lack much flavor. I was hoping the egg yoke would cover most of the pizza but it was on a small section of the center. The soppressata was the better of the two but there was still something missing. I couldn't really taste the cheese or the sauce. And both pizzas crust was a good portion of each slice. Making it even more dull. I'm still giving Milkflower 3 stars because the service and atmosphere were enjoyable. I will definitely be back and order something else. I'm hoping to have a better experience with the food.

I think maybe I would like Milkflower more in the afternoon, or in the summer when the back patio is open. The decor and setup is cozy and is a fairly small setup. So my only issue was with how loud the place could get. But let's get to the pizza! I split the Spicy Soppressatta and the Superfly Snuka with bae. He wanted the Soppressatta and I picked the Snuka because I love Hawaiian pizzas. The Soppressatta won both of us over with a delectable balance between spicy and sweet (drizzled honey on top). Definitely recommending for everyone to try it.

Milkflower, after so many rave reviews about this place I finally took the plunge. Since the weather was nice, we decided to sit at the benches outside. To start we ordered the chorizo & egg toast followed by splitting their spicy sopressata pizza. The chorizo and egg toast was a very good start to our meal and it was delicious. Now, the pizza. I'm a hard sell on pizza since Basil is THE pizza place I go to and my standard bearer of excellent pizza. Although Milkflower's pizza is good, it's not as good as Basil. I believe the crust of the pizza at Milkflower is good, it stands up to the toppings (i.e. it doesn't flop down when you pick up a slice) but I'm not as sold on the whole pie, the sauce and the cheese. It's just not as good as Basil and although good, it wasn't spectacular where it wowed me. The service was quick and our waitress was incredibly nice so all good things there. I suppose if I was too lazy to walk to Basil, Milkflower certainly is closer to me.

The innovation and quality of pizza in London is light years ahead of New York. I'd long given up on finding anywhere really amazing in NYC (I have a soft spot for Lombardi's, Roberta's is fine, Joe's is okay in a retro way, Patsy's is rubbish...). A friend recommended Milkflower and it's easily on par with the best of London. Good service, a nice relaxed Queens crowd (families, gay couples...). The food is really fantastic - the brussels sprouts with egg pizza is phenomenal. As is the new cheese and honey one. Good gelato too. I'd worried that there'd be an annoying wait on a Sunday afternoon, but we got a table straight away. Only criticism: $12 for an IPA is a bit ambitious (as nice as it is).

The food is very good, unfortunately I could not say the same about our server. He spilled a can of beer on one of my friends. Later on our food came out not all together but two orders first while the rest of our table waited. Every time the waiter came over he made jokes about spilling beer and it was not funny. He made us feel very uncomfortable. We left a generous tip nonetheless, we left, realized we left our leftovers and stepped back in to get our two pizza boxes. Our waiter gave us a dirty look (he must have been unhappy with his 25% tip) and continued to tell us he dumped it. It hadn't been 10 minutes since we had left . Very upsetting as we had saved 3 orders to take home. Our friends and I are not coming back due to poor attitude from server. Thanks for ruining our night

Maybe it was what we ordered but I just wasn't thrilled with the four pies we ordered. The only thing I truly found flavorful and tasty were the meatballs.

Uuuuaaaaoooo, nice! Best brick oven margherita around. Just like the one at home in Italy. Try their meat charcuterie, string bean salad, roasted shishito peppers, and the orange infused olives, my tastebuds were in heaven. Sit in the back yard, great quiet space, great food, great service. Too bad they don't have espresso. Mannaggia!

Absolutely charming place. We sat outside last night - lovely. The food is to die for: the burrata was sublime; the accompanying roasted tomatoes and grilled chunk of bread added to the flavors and textures. The beet salad with yogurt and orange zest was another winning combo of flavors and textures. The Queen with a blistery, thin crust was outstanding. The wine selection was just right. The service was so accommodating and just-right-attentive. Thanks for a fabulous evening!

Give me burrata anytime, any day, and I am a happy camper. Milkflower however, didn't just settle for a mound of burrata drenched in evoo and balsamic. They slow roasted some sweet grape tomatoes and topped it off with some thinly sliced roasted garlic. YUM. Next up was the avocado on toast which had a nice lemony zing to it. Finished off with the sassy Superfly Snuka pizza. It had the perfect blend of sweet and spice. Much better than your typical version of a Hawaiian pizza. They jazzed it up with some spec and fresh spicy jalepeños. My tummy was feeling mighty happy! OH and they have a really cute garden out back. The ambiance is perfect for a romantic date! Also, totally random but I love that they have a pizza named after Abe Froman.

We have been here a few times, and the food is good! However, the experience we had here is just "OK" every time... - Atmosphere : we understand where they are trying to go with the interior design, but feels there is no personality of the restaurant (Ex : the staffs are walking around with sad/tired faces. Well, except the guys by the oven, they seem to be trying to have fun working)... - Service : needs someone who is little bit more professional/experienced. - Drink (beer) list : nothing new/special. We can get them at near by deli... Again... We like their food, and we are sure that they have more good stuff that we haven't tried, yet. However, those little/basic things can make a big difference when it comes to receiving an overall 4-5 stars rating. Good luck!!!

This was a real find. Exquisite pizza, attentive service, nice range of choices on the menu. They even have two picnic tables in the back yard. I can't wait to go back. It was easier to park around there than on busy 30th Avenue.

This place is without question, the best pizza place currently in Astoria. The ingredients are amazing, and the lies are creative. Great prices for what you're getting, also. It's an Astoria gem for sure.

YUMM! Came to milkflower this past weekend for dinner and left very very satisfied. Once you walk into Milkflower you are immediately transported to Brooklyn. No need to wait for the G, just make you're way over to Milkflower. To start we got the meatballs. I'm not typically a fan of meatballs but I gotta say these were the best meatballs I ever had. We licked the plate clean. The roasted garlic was a nice touch. We also ordered the spicy sopressata. I was curious about the use of honey in this pizza but it was so subtle and it perfectly complimented the salty and spiciness of the sopressata. The crust was perfect. Charred just the right amount, not too thin with a nice chewy texture. We probably could have eaten two pies.... Which is why we ordered a second pizza to go! Yes we were those people. We ordered the pomodoro to go. Also very delicious but I wasn't a fan of the cheese-less pizza. We even started eating it while waiting for our dessert. Obviously we are shameless gluttons. For dessert we got the gelato which came with 3 different flavors. Great way to top of the meal. As we left the restaurant we were already planning our next visit. Best pizza I've had in Queens so far!

The food was very good. The only problem I have is that I heard they had gluten free pizza, and when we arrived, they said they don't make gluten free pizza at all.

Sure, this is a brick oven pizza place with awesome dough to cheese to sauce ratio and creative toppings, but Meatball lovers rejoice because we have found the mother ship. This place hits it out of the ballpark and then some (like, Mickey Mantle style that's how far they hit it) with their juicy meatballs and tomato sauce. Each bite was dream worthy and quite possibly worth duking it out for the last bite. Though the portions were mammoth, I don't recommend sharing this dish. The burrata toast was also spot on. Delicious.

First of all let me say that we came here fro Brunch. We ordered the delicious honey glazed slabs of Bacon that they had that day as part of their specials, so apparently they are not part of the regular menu and BOY WHAT A SHAME, but I think that's probably because these things are surely illegal.. Anyway, they were too die for and we actually felt as if we had died and gone to heaven. YUM! The mimosas were awesome. Normally the regular and most common complaint about mimosas is that there is way too much OJ in them, and I think they purposely do the opposite here and we love them so much more for it. Then we had the meatballs which I believe are made from lamb, come with the most amazing sauce in the world and are topped off with scrumptious slices of garlic bread. The dish is amazing and I recommend everyone try it here. After you are done scarfing down the meatballs, you can use the bread to devour every single drop of the sauce. The brunch toasts are cute, nice portions, and affordable. They have tons of delicious flavors going on and are just super good. We ordered the tomato, mozzarella and basil pizza, and while it wasn't as great as Lucali's pizza, it can surely compete, although I would stay away from this particular pizza if you are looking to compare in flavors and go with their other options which all seem super tasty. Give this place a try because it has a great vibe, an outdoor back area, and they certainly love food here as much as we do. Enjoy.

Giving Milkflower two stars is generous in my opinion. My experience of it was of a place that is disorganized, overpriced, and mediocre at best. Arriving, my gf, her friend, and I asked for a table of three. The hostess told us they were going to wipe down a table for us. A few seconds later someone else came up to us asking us if we wanted a table. Yes I said they're wiping one down for us. A few seconds later someone else came by and we went through this exchange again. Dejavu. Sitting down you get to enjoy a few things. The ambiance and decor are very nice. Wood walls and good music. Ray Charles and Chuck Berry were in the mix. I thought that this was going to be a great place. We get menus and sticker shock sets in. Personal size pizzas for $15? Ouch! I got the $10 regular margarita pizza (which they call 'the Queen'). The pizza was bland and wasn't more than two and a half slices of any other pizzeria's pizza. If you want a cola, well you're in luck they have Coke.................. from Mexico so that'll only run you $3 for a bottle. I know I know, it's from Mexico so it probably uses real sugar instead of corn syrup but I'm not crazy for the idea of paying $3 for a small bottle of coke. It probably wouldn't be so bad if it didn't take three tries to flag down our waitress who seemed like helping us out was more a hobby than a job. This review might be perceived as harsh, but I love pizza and I love pizza places. I'm always looking for good, new, and interesting places to frequent. Milkflower seemed disorganized in seating us, their prices were excessive, their pizza was mediocre, and the staff seemed distant. I want to give them another chance in the future, just not the near future.

One of the best pizzerias in Astoria by far. Would highly recommend the chico verde and stunn dunn. The pizza is perfectly cooked in that the crust is slightly crispy, but soft at the same time. Looking forward to coming back here to try the spicy Sopressata slice.

Went here with another couple on a Friday night not too long ago. It was packed and the atmosphere is quite lovely. Our server was pleasant - I think he may have been the owner? - and the drinks were served promptly. I have to agree with everyone else that the prices are a bit steep, even for personal pizzas. The Brussels sprouts pizza was delicious, but I was a bit disappointed it that it was just a few leave of Brussels sprouts, not actual whole sprouts and for $14 I wanted more than just a few leaves. The ingredients are clearly quality, you can taste that for sure. My other beef with the place was that all our food came out at separate times. So our two friends got their pizzas and then 10 minutes later we got ours. It wasn't a huge deal, but since we weren't sharing tapas style it was pretty awkward to sit and wait. The food it tasty but the prices could use a little help. It's not top on my list of places to return to though. Unfortunately.

This is perhaps a bit harsh though I consider this a warning to others like me. This is a gourmet pizza establishment meaning that your pizza will have: -only a little cheese -only a little sauce -only a tiny smattering of toppings -lots of fancy truffle oils -lots of charred bits (some of which could be carcinogenic) -extremely uncomfortable chairs (at least to both my wife and me) for those who like the above, please enjoy (clearly a lot of local residents do), otherwise I cannot recommend this for those like me

Good food, terrible service! I came to Milkflower around 6.30pm on a Friday night with a friend - we were planning to have a drink and share a small plate, and then another friend was going to be joining us 15 minutes later to share some pizzas. When we told the waitress that the 3rd person in our party wouldn't be arriving for 15 mins she said we couldn't be seated, so we sat squashed onto a bench facing the dining room in our winter coats. I've been to high-end restaurants in Manhattan who don't seat a party until everyone has arrived, but as there were empty tables available, and we would have ordered drinks and food before the 3rd person arrived, it didn't really make sense that we couldn't sit at a table. Once our friend arrive we were seated , ordered drinks (I got the Narrangasset Lager which was great and only $4) and started checking out the menu. We ordered the 'Superfly Snuka' and another pizza with swiss chard, speck and mushrooms but the name escapes me....anyway, they were brought to our table quickly and were delicious! After being seated for around 20 minutes we were close to finishing our pizzas, but still had full drinks, yet in the space of literally 2 minutes, 3 different servers came up to us to try to remove the pizza pan which still had pizza on it! By the 3rd time this happened we were quite frustrated and I asked if we could have 5 minutes to finish, at which time the guy gave me a strange look and continued to hover around us waiting for us to finish the pizza slices. We ended up trying to eat the pizza and finish our drinks quickly just to get out of there. I've lived in Astoria for 5 years and this has definitely been my worst customer service experience, all up we were seated for 30 minutes and there were empty tables in the restaurant, so I didn't understand why they were trying to rush us out of there. Especially as it results in lower tips and bad reviews! My friend lives nearby and he said he'd definitely order take out from Milkflower again as their pizza is tasty, but all 3 of us agreed that we'd never go back and have to suffer through that horrible service again.

I visited NYC from LA for work and stayed in Astoria. I found Milkflower randomly walking by to the corner liquor mart. This place is great! Pizza and meatballs are amazing. If you like a great crust, a bit charred and crispy on the outside but still soft on the inside this place is for you. The Soppressata pizza lightly drizzled with honey blew my mind and I went about 4 time in the span of 9 days. Needless to say I came back 5 lbs heavier. When I go back to NYC this place is a must!

We had the blistered peppers which were just that. If you like hot, then these are for you. Ordered the meatballs which were outstanding. Followed by a couple of pizzas which were just as good as the rest of the food. Ordered the Stunn Dunn and the Queen.

Really good pizza dough but really expensive for what you get. Left this place feeling hungry. Ordered the pineapple speck and jalapeño pizza. There were 3-4 jalapeños and equally less amount of pineapples. The crust was burnt in places that bubbled up leaving a bitter taste in the mouth. Not sure I would pay $17 again to eat here again. There are much better options around the neighborhood.

Came here earlier for dinner with my BF and it was his suggestion. We've passed by it many times but never gave it a chance because I just don't believe in quality pizza in Astoria but boy was I wrong. This place more then likely has the best artisan pizza in Queens. The service was very good, the waitress was so patient and helpful when it came time to order our food. They have a limited menu but its just the right size. We ordered the Van Dammer after long consideration and it was SO GOOD! It was so simple yet flavors were so complex. The dough they formulated was perfect, it was like crispy nor soggy but so fluffy, especially the crust. It has such a savory wood fire taste. Still thinking about it. Anyway, we ordered the meatballs, which came out strangely fast but still so yummy. The tomato sauce they used on the dish was perfect. It had a lot of texture. We also ordered the string bean salad based on waitress recommendation and that was also very good. The string beans were very fresh and crunchy. Overall, the dishes are uber simple but so deep in flavor and presentation. I will definitely come back! Keep up the good work MILKFLOWER!

UNREAL PIZZA!! Served fresh and hot. Meatballs as an appetizer - fabulous. Prices are not bad and service was excellent. The atmosphere was so cozy and it was the perfect ending to a cold day in New York. Will be going back as soon as I possibly can. Swiss chard pizza and Stunn Dunn for the win!!

This was pretty much wonderful from start to finish. We've been there twice now and the food, ambiance, and service were all excellent both times. You HAVE to try the meatballs. We got one order and I almost ordered a second. (The second time we each ordered our own). I mean...I haven't had meatballs that good in a long time. The pizza was delicious - they have several pre-made selections that all looked delicious. We went with their standard plain pizza and added sausage to it. The pizza came out with small pieces of fresh mozzarella sprinkled over the sauce and plenty of crumbled sausage. The sauce was excellent. The pizza disappeared quickly :) This place is definitely now our go-to for pizza and a laid-back night out!

I adore Milkflower. Go there frequently and have never had a bad experience. The food is amazing - the Chico Verde is pretty much the best pizza I've ever had (followed closely by the Abe Froman), their salads are to die for, and the prices are great for the quality of food you're getting. Service has always been good, and the ambiance is wonderful - definitely a fabulous addition to the neighborhood.

The pizza at Milkflower is delicious! I especially recommend the Van Dammer, which has mozzarella, egg, brussels sprout, and truffle oil. The pizza crust is amazing and they have lots of great options. It also has a great vibe and friendly staff.

This is definitely my new favorite pizza place in the city (excluding the walk in and grab a slice variety pizzeria). The best part? It's maybe 500 meters from my house. Amazing! Now that I'm writing this review, I want to go back! FOOD: easily the highlight of the evening. My fiancee and I had been meaning to check Mikflower out for several weeks, and finally a miracle happened and our schedules aligned during one Friday evening last week. We started with the meatball appetizer (you get 3 meatballs for $9), and it was so good that I was afraid it would overshadow the main event. The meatballs were tender, juicy, and smothered in tomato sauce and parmesan cheese. We went with "The Queen" pizza to split between us, which features tomato, mozzarella, basil, and parmesan cheese. Outstanding. Thing crust but not so thin you can't pick it up and it tastes soggy (see my review of Rizzo's over on Steinway). Perfect combination of ingredients that prevented any one flavor of drowning out the rest. And not too greasy. We'll just say that the pizza did not survive. We took no prisoners (i.e. leftovers). We also tried the three flavors of gelato that they had available, but this was definitely the weakest part of our meal. I'd suggest skipping that suggestion. DRINK: they have a fairly small selection of beers (all bottle), and it seemed like a larger selection of red and white wines. I went with a (tall) bottle of the Pretty Things, and my fiancee had a bottle of the Ommegang. They will furnish you with pint glasses, and they were even kind enough to stick my tall Pretty Things back in the fridge to keep it cold. There's nothing spectacular here on this point. It's basically available if you'd like to have a beer (or glass of wine) with your amazing pizza. SERVICE: our server was attentive and very nice. She refilled my pint glass with the rest of the Pretty Things beer I'd ordered when I had finished the first half without my asking. Our food came out fairly quickly, and overall everything was great on this point. PRICES: I would say these are about average for a "gourmet" pizzeria like Milkflower. The nice thing about it being a pizza place is you can easily split one pizza between two, tack on an appetizer, and there will be no question that you're full afterward. We ordered one appetizer ($9) and one pizza ($11) and we were completely stuffed afterward. There's a standard markup on the beer (I know that particular bottle of Pretty Things can be found in the store for around $13), and I spotted other tables with glasses of wine instead and it looked like they'd received a pretty standard pour. AMBIANCE: this is a small place with a very warm feel to it. If you sit in the back, which is what we did to avoid the cold from the front door whenever it was opened, you'll actually see the wood fire oven they use to make the pizza. Get here early on their busy nights, because there was definitely a wait for a table by the time we'd finished and left.

  • Lauren O.

The pizzas here are okay, but somewhat bland. The crust-to-topping ratio leaves the pies too bready and chewy, and even the most potent menu items need lots of added seasoning. The servers seem kind of annoyed that you're there and the hosts are equally stand-offish. Small plates were pretty good, but I'm not sure I'd rush back.

Only tried take-out but still loved it. That Brussel Sprout pizza was great- I only wish the egg was in the middle as only two pieces had egg and the rest didn't. Shishto Peppers and Meatballs were also delish. I hope to dine in sometime soon!

So I don't usually feel the need to make an effort to write reviews about a place, but Milkflower needs it. I recently went to Milkflower on June 21st 2013 with 2 other family members. We arrived at about 7pm. The atmosphere is great, the decor makes it feel like home and the staff is very welcoming. The inside reminded me of Butcher Bar ( for those of you who have ever been there). So there were only 3 of us and the staff said we wouldn't have to wait long. Little did we know, our wait would be a little more than 1 hour. We waited outside in the back of the restaurant along with others eager to eat. After waiting 45 minutes, we figured out that one large party was taking up 2 tables and had been done for a while but instead of being courteous and leaving after the drinks and food, they decided to stay longer and chit chat. Now I know that it would be rude for staff to ask them to leave and rush them out, but what was worse was that one of the customers had to actually ask them to leave. As soon as that group left. My group and another couple finally sat down. We ordered and within minutes our pies were coming out. Considering it was really busy, our pizza pies came out pretty quick. First we had the Spicy Soppressata which was delicious. Next we had White pizza which was pretty bad, then we ate the Hawaiian pizza. That tasted okay but seemed a bit cold. So here is where the problem is: I know that this is wood fired pizza and it will be a bit burnt, but when it's significantly burnt throughout the whole pie and takes away from the true flavor of the pizza, then why bother eating it. The white pizza was extremely burnt, and there was only one spot on the pizza that actually had cheese. All I could taste was burnt dough. Maybe it was the timing that we decided to go, but my first experience here was awful. I was so tired of waiting I didn't even want to eat anymore. Like I said before the staff is friendly, the decor is great, but the long wait and price for small, burnt, okay tasting pizza isn't. As far as the appetizers, I did not try that. Doc's Hard Apple Cider was delicious by the way. Although I was not too pleased with this place, I'll admit that since this was only my first time, I will probably go back in the future, but not any time soon. To all of those planning on going, good luck and write reviews!

I had been meaning to go here for so long and I finally got around to it a couple weeks ago. The boyfriend and I came her for dinner on a Saturday evening and we able to get a table immediately. We ordered the burrata toasts with roasted red peppers, black olive and anchovies as well as the Superfly Snuka pizza (tomato, mozzarella, jalapeno, pineapple, speck). The burrata toasts plate came with two pieces and were great! They were unsurprisingly salty, but the fresh (ricotta?) cheese helped to balance out the flavors. We were a little underwhelmed by the toppings on out pizza. They were all there, but they were sparse. I think there were a total of 4 slices of jalapeno. Looking around, it seemed as though other pizzas had more toppings. The pizza also wasn't as flavorful as I had hoped it would be, but the dough was really good and cooked perfectly. I think we just picked the wrong pizza. I definitely want to come back and try the truffled Brussel sprout pizza and the Soppressata ones because they both looked and smelled amazing!

Love this place! Ignore the stupid reviews! They have the best pizza!!! Fresh and light!!! A must come!!! This is my favorite spot in Astoria! Good vibes and beautiful little rustic restaurant! Check it out! Kale pizza is everything! Oh and ask for the chili oil to top your pizza! My jewel!

These brothers do it right. It's always a pleasure to get dinner at Milkflower. Their Queen and Pomodoro pizzas are fantastic. But strangely enough, their appetizers are the highlight of the show. Their burrata toasts with roasted marinated peppers, black olive oil and anchovies could in fact be the most delicious thing I've ever eaten in Astoria. These guys bring pizza justice to the neighborhood. Plus they create their own gelato flavors every day. Some of the best flavors I've had have been Olive Oil, Marshmallow and Mexican Cinnamon. 5/5

I can't get enough of Milkflower! I've been there over a dozen times. After getting the Spicy Soppresata my first time, I was hooked. I think I've tried every pie there, but the toast plates are what really keep me coming back. Not to mention those meatballs! Friendly staff, well-priced, great food, and a nice atmosphere. Happy to see such a great restaurant added to the top of the line restaurants in Astoria. Keep up the good work!

Walked in one night just from curiosity and see if the pizza is really that good. I have ordered spicy Sopresata. Pastry was thick. Not a well balance between pastry, sauce and cheese. It was a firewood oven and that contributed to the flavor a little. If you know Patsy's in East Harlem, you know what is a simple well balanced pizza that is exceptional. The pizza in MilkFlower was OK overall. Nothing special. It was spicy and I didn't know what I was tasting in there...something spicy with some honey flavor as well. There was tomato sauce...almost reminds on a high end pizza sauce but not quite there. Pastry was very thick in texture. Very similar like Frankie's from East Village- Like you are eating bread with little something in the middle. And it's kind of wanting little more of that something from the middle. Pizza was 10" in size and it costs 16$ + Tax + Tip 16$ + Tax + Tip comes to 20$ for a small pizza!!!??? That is a way over-priced for average quality pizza that didn't even make me full. Two pizzas would suffice for a meal, but it would cost 40$ I am 6.1", 175 lb and with normal average appetite. I don't care about service or a lifestyle you are creating. Patsy's has the worst service ever, but I still love their pizza no matter what and I will go there regardless. This pizza place will not see me or my party of friends ever again. Even though I live close to Milkflower, I will still take the train to Harlem and have Patsy's pizza for 13$ no tax, good for two! You should sell those fancy hipster trends elsewhere, not in Astoria. People in Astoria want to eat a good pizza. And the one that is moderately priced. If you are rich and don't care about pizza taste, this will be perfect for you and your friends to show them around and make them think how Astoria has become so COOL!

Just Ate here. Pizza reminds me of real deal pizza in italy. Thin, personal pies. Prices are reasonable. Decor seemed "cute" although it's the typical "rustic/industrial" trend you see often. Meatballs were great. So was the spicy soppressata pizza. My fiance had the pomodoro, which although plain (by ingredients standard) was delicious. We definitely want to try the Van (insert second part of name here) pizza which has truffle oil, the next time we dine here.

One of best pizzas in Astoria. Meatballs here are a must. Beer selection is decent. They have a really unique outdoor area in the back.

Milkflower is great! I've had a couple of their pizzas and they are just fantastic. The shishito peppers are also pretty stellar, and during a certain time of year they are sourced locally from the LIC Brooklyn Grange. I also love their backyard for summer nights.

Finally got around to trying this place after accidentally passing by it so many times on my way home from other 31st Ave. hot spots. I'm glad I did because I just found my new favorite salad in Astoria! My friend and I split the Spinach salad which was plenty to share for an app and would have sufficed as a light meal for one. It has chopped portabello mushrooms, super-flavorful butternut squash, and is topped with pumpkin seeds. The vinaigrette dressing is tasty too! It's quite comparable to the butternut squash salad at Monikas Cafe Bar on 34th Ave. but is like 4x the size for about the same price. And then we shared a white pizza with caramelized onions, chives, and at least one or two types of white cheese. It was delicious! The crust was not bad but not the best so my advice is to skip the crust to save room for more of the good stuff! :) Adding this to my list of go-to Astoria restaurants immediately!

Tasty. Unique. Out of this world! Enjoyed the craft pizzas this new Astoria location has for locals. Service was a bit slow, but they made up for it with the food. On your next visit, make sure to take a look at the chalkboard sign. It changes daily!

The food here is similar to Pulino's which sadly, closed down. I had the spicy soppressata, which was very good and the crust was perfectly charred. I tried the meatballs based on a recommendation here - I didn't find anything special about them. Its a small but very beautiful place. I went on a Wednesday evening so I'm not sure how busy it gets on the weekends, but it was about 3/4 full when I went.

Best pizza I've ever had. The pepperoni with honey is amazing. Don't forget to get the meatballs! My 3 year old always wants to go here. She loves the pizza and for some strange reason the bathroom! We never seem to have trouble getting a table and they also have good WiFi. I just wished they delivered!!!!

Have been to Milkflower twice recently. As someone that grew up on the Great Pizza of New Haven, CT, I love the wood fired oven feel and taste. I would recommend asking for the pizza to be cooked well done, but that is a matter of taste. The burrata and meatballs are great starters. I have also enjoyed all the pizzas I ordered. Very friendly and informative staff. Even the other guests are welcoming. A place I will definitely return too! Well done

No wait and fast service. I split an appetizer and a pizza with a girlfriend, and it was a fulfilling dinner for two. I'll eat anything with burrata, so of course ordered the burrata appetizer. We had the queen margherita pizza (tomato, mozzarella, basil), which was pretty basic and solid. At the end, we were convinced to try the owner-made panna cotta dessert - very light and delicious.

This is a review about a take-out experience. I called and placed an order for one spicy soppressata pizza. I was told that it would be ready in 10 minutes. My friend and I arrived there 15 minutes later to pick it up. The waitress took the money for the pizza right away, but didn't mention that they hadn't started the order. There were two people at a table, waiting for their pizza. Five minutes later, they received a pizza. Eight minutes later they received another pizza...the pizza I ordered. When my friend asked the waitress how much longer for our take-out order, the waitress replied that they were making our pizza now. Then the waitress realized she had just served our pizza to someone else. She went and took back the pie from the table ...and offered it to my friend and I. My friend asked for a new pizza to be made. Ten minutes after that, we left with our pizza. So a place to go if you want to wait 40 minutes and pay over $17+ for a personal sized pizza, without any offer during the wait time for a drink or anything.

I see a lot of reviews mentioning poor service, which I assume was a combination of new restaurant kinks and people with high standards. Was here on Saturday with a very large birthday group and our server was great, and VERY nice and patient with us as we paid a bill with multiple credit cards. Best brick oven pizza I've had in Queens. Looks like some folks are confusing their brick oven pizza expectations with that of a good old fashioned slice. While prices may seem high at first for the surface area of pizza you are getting, the ingredients are so excellent and fresh it makes all the difference. Their sauce is great. Would just recommend finding some wines that are a little less expensive by the glass. $9 is a bit steep considering the rest of the prices.

Came here a few weeks ago on a Sunday afternoon with my girlfriends. It was such a quiet and homey place, perfect for a Sunday get together. The ricotta toast may sound "different" but it was ahhhh-mazing! So were the meatballs, burrata and The Queen pizza. The pizza was so thin and fresh, I was able to have one to myself without feeling bloated or overly stuffed - on top of all the appetizers we had. Definitely will be coming back.

My husband and I caught sight of Milkflower the other day when driving down 31st Ave and knew immediately that we needed to pay a visit. SO glad that we did! We got a seat straight away in the cozy dining area and Whitney, our lovely server, came over immediately. The wine selection is very nice, but not as fabulous as the rest of the menu! I'm a fiend for shishito peppers and was delighted to find them as a small plate. In fact, the small plate was not so small as the portion was generous, in my estimation. Meatballs were also good...But not as good as my mothers :-) Whoever the genius was who decided to put Brussels Sprouts and a cracked egg on a coal over pizza should be canonized. It's outrageously good. I can't wait to try all of the other pizzas, as well as the salads that are likely the most unique that's I've seen in Astoria--no dried cranberries and candied nuts like every other shop. Many props to Peter, the owner, to have so many fabulous dining elements under one roof: good service, good food, good beverage, good prices and a very inviting and comfortable ambiance. Cheers!

How have I not reviewed this place before? We've been there half a dozen times and it's always been good. A recent fave: the Stun Dunn pie. Silly name, delicious pizza. The backyard is pretty but a little warm from the air conditioning units. On the whole: not expensive, tasty food, nice staff, great vibe. Go!

Wonderfully executed brick oven pizza. A perfectly crispy-then-chewy crust. The menu is marked by measured creativity offering pizzas with just enough adventure to spark your interest but not going too far as to distract from the craft of the basics. I tried the Van Dammer and was pleasantly surprised how delicious a pizza with brussel sprouts could be. My lovely date tried the Chico Verde and she loved the brightness of the lemon and tomato with the crispy kale. Small selection of bottled craft beer and a slightly larger wine menu. Gelato for dessert! We will definitely come back.

I really enjoyed this place when I visited last. The brick oven is usually a good setup for pizza and this place does it well. The pie was not too thick and just the right size. It hit the spot for our late evening pizza crave. Everything was fresh and I enjoyed the cream orange soda as well. Definitely returning to try some of the other stuff on the menu. Oh and everyone working there were pleasant and accommodating.

I love this place! Fresh ingredients, wonderful combinations, great pizza, and best of all its only a few blocks from my house. I've been here at least 5 times and each time the pizzas are fantastic. Now I wouldn't recommend you go with a normal pizza here (pomodoro) but rather get something a little funky. My favorite so far has been the 'Corn on the Hog' but the truffle brusselsprouts and mushroom are also awesome! Another one of my favorites is the String Bean Salad. I've been getting this once a week it is the perfect size, fresh, and delicious! Many of the other reviewers have mentioned how they don't like the pizza, but I really don't get it. I think this is by far one of the best pizza places I've been to in NYC. Perhaps its because I am from California and this is more the style of our pizzas, but I cannot say enough good things about this place.

This one star is for the decor. Atmospherically, Milkflower is beautiful, but that is where the pleasantness ends. My husband and I were there a little later and on a weeknight, so fortunately, we didn't have to wait for a table like some of the other reviewers here. Milkflower is overpriced. We shared a pizza and the cheese and meat plate. We each had one drink and with tip we spent just at $70.00. The cheese and meat plate was tasty, but the portions were small. We ordered the Spicy Sopressata pizza, and it was mediocre. The crust was also burnt. I asked for Parmesan and the server went to the kitchen. She returned from the kitchen, sat with her friends and did not return with Parmesan. After waiting a few minutes, I got up and asked someone else. Our original server then went to the kitchen and returned with a roll of the eyes and some Parmesan cheese. I have to agree with some of the other reviews I've read here. The service is lazy and apathetic. They are a hipster scarf away from being downright rude. All in all, it wasn't any fun. Avoid this place, and go 2 doors down to Il Bambino instead. That's what I'm gonna do from now on.

Lovely waitstaff. Antipasti plate included a fantastic roasted garlic dip. The brussel sprout pizza was bland so I was disappointed, but the pea and ricotta toast with lemon and lavender was delicious! I have high hopes for my next visit.

I was recently at Milkflower for a birthday party. Upon entering, I ran into a coworker who recommended the 2 pizzas I would soon find to be extremely delicious: the spicy soppressata pizza and the kale pizza. In addition to eating this pizzas, I also ate the Hawaiian pizza and the brussels sprout pizza. The pizzas were so good I ate them while they were very hot, and even though I should have waited until the pies had cooled just a bit, I do not regret my decision. My goal is to consume all of the pizzas Milkflower has to offer before 2013 is done. I love the atmosphere and the staff was friendly and knowledgable. Yay Pizza!

As far as the competitive world of Astoria pizza, we have a new champ with Milkflower - not more of the same, bringing it with new flavors. Just a staple in my diet. The decor is low key, and they don't deliver - which is great cause pizza like this wouldn't deliver well as it's best eaten fresh out the oven.

I ate at Milkflower with a few friends on a Thursday (early evening). They were still quite new, and I was excited for some good brick-oven style pizza in Astoria. The atmosphere was nice and rustic, noise level perfect for conversation. Drink menu was limited (as the restaurant was still so new) but they did have ginger beer which had me reminiscing about my time in South Africa, where that was a staple. We ordered the toast plate which was a small plate of various crostini. A little small for $12, but delicious nonetheless. For an entrée we split two pizzas (soppressata and brussel sprout pizzas). Both were absolutely superb. The spicy soppressata had just the right amount of honey drizzled over top for that nice sweet and savory combination. The brussel sprout pizza had caramelized brussel sprouts and a cracked egg with soft yolk on top. A must try. Service was quick and attentive (though the restaurant was fairly empty). Not sure how it would hold up on a packed night. My only complaint were the prices. It was a bit steep for Astoria. I've had similar quality pizza in Chelsea for the same prices. It's perfect for a group sharing everything, but if you are dining solo or in small numbers, it can be a bit steep. I will definitely be back!

I think I found a new pizza go to spot in Astoria. I love wood oven pizza and this place and a unique menu selection to choose from. My favorite is the van dammer, who would have thought brussels sprouts would taste so good on pizza. The crust is done well with lots of flavor. We split three pizzas among the four of us and we had two guys who can eat. We also got the meatballs to start which I highly recommend. This place is so good I would break my no carb diet for it.

This is definitely one of my favorite new additions to the neighborhood. I'm lucky it's only four blocks away but it's definitely worth the trek if you live farther away. It's SO affordable to come here to eat food that tastes like it costs twice as much as it actually does. My friends and I love coming in here splitting pizzas, appetizers, and wine and are always shocked when the bill comes at how little we spent! Not to mention, the service is AMAZING! The way they treat you makes you feel like you're at a fine dining restaurant! Don't get me wrong, it's an extremely casual atmosphere, I just don't remember the last time I went to a pizza joint where they change your silverware out in between courses. The best part is, I found out about this place from open market days at Brooklyn Grange farm in Long Island City, Saturday ritual for my roommate and I. Milkflower buys all of their produce from Brooklyn Grange so the veggies are so fresh they were LITERALLY grown less than a mile away. That's something you don't find every day in NYC. Food recs: The blistered shishito peppers, the spicy sopressata pizza, and the tomato confit toast.

This place was great! Highly recommend! Food was good, priced right, and the service was great! Our water got refilled at least six times and our plates were removed immediately when we were finished. The servers and staff were all very nice. Cool atmosphere too! Fun place! Will be back!

Finally! With the exception of Via Trent's pizza it's hard To find this style of pizza in Astoria. Thin crust, gourmet ingredients and fresh fresh fresh. The individual size pizzas are truly creative (eg Brussels sprouts and truffle oil) and amazing. This place is just pizza and small plates (no pasta!) but because of that focus it's awesome food. Also a nice beer and wine selection, good service and nice decor.

Nice decor, nice staff but pizza so mediocre. Very cheap on a sauce, cheese, etc. Less, less dough, more ingredients, please. Then pizza would be worth better rating.

Just ate at Milkflower. The pizza was good but there are plenty of other great pizza places with much better service. If you completely forget a pizza and the customers have to wait for another 30 minutes, maybe you should comp an app or offer a free drink. Just a suggestion for your future customers. I won't be going back.

So we have been waiting for Milkflower to open for a few months. We live right around the corner and have been peeking in the windows every time we walk by. Well it finally opened up tonight at 5pm. We didn't have any dinner plans yet so I messaged the wife and we decided to go and try it out. The location where they opened the restaurant used to be a rundown dry cleaner that also offered "Massages" in the back room. It was hard to not improve on that but they certainly exceeded our expectations. I also liked the music that they were playing. Modern mellow rock (ie Modest Mouse). We were hoping to sit in the back courtyard but it's not open yet. We got a table in the back of the room. The table for two is actually a decent size so all your plates and drinks aren't too crammed and they actually had decent space between the tables. We didn't have to move the table to get to the seat against the wall. This also allowed us to have a conversation without being forced to listen to the people at the tables on either side of us. We weren't super hungry so we decided to get a salad and a pizza. We started with the Market Greens salad. We ordered it with the dressing on the side. When it was initially brought out the dressing wasn't on the side. We reminded the server and he was apologetic and brought us a new one within a minute. Not an issue for us. The salad was really good. It was nice that it actually had significant amounts of strawberries and cucumbers in it. Too often a salad that is supposed to have strawberries comes with a few slivers. This had large chunks of strawberries with enough for us to split and both be happy with what we got. I love cucumber and there was a perfect amount. My wife doesn't eat salad dressing but I do. The vinaigrette was delicious. I used it sparingly. For the meal we got "The Queen" which is basically a margherita pizza. In fact, the owner took our order and even referred to it as that. We both enjoyed the pizza. It had a nice crust and I enjoyed the sauce. I love fresh basil on my pizza and it was just what we wanted. The only other thing we ordered was a "Mexican Coke". It's a coke in a glass bottle that has cane sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup and is imported from Mexico. I recommend it. In summary, we are really excited to have this new addition to our neighborhood. Depending on how much you eat, the salad and pizza might leave another couple hungry but if you each order your own I'd guess that you will have leftovers. I'm sure that we will be frequenting the restaurant and especially once they open the backyard. The owner, Pete, was the one that took our order, he stopped by to find out how our meal was and then spoke with us on our way out. He thanked us and was very friendly which gave it a real neighborhood feel. Thank you for the great meal and looking forward to going back. I want to try the sopressata pizza next time. Oh yeah, Pete also mentioned that they are currently only open for dinner but that they are planning on eventually doing a brunch. UPDATE: Returned tonight and had another good experience. This time I got the Soppresseta Pizza and it was awesome. I ordered the honey on the side because I wasn't too sure about it but end-up going through the honey before I finished my pizza and asked them to give me some to go so I could use it on my last slice tomorrow. They obliged. This is going to be my go to pizza here is my guess. The wife got the Queen again and enjoyed it but did have a few slices that had a little too much burn on the bottom. Not enough to complain about but enough that we hope it was not the norm. Didn't try the gelato but will at some point. They probably could use a little more cooling in there on these super hot days. It was still mostly comfortable once we were there for a while but took quite a while to cool down before it felt mostly comfortable. Going to keep it at 4 Stars for now. ALSO, they aren't serving wine yet so you can still bring your own bottle of wine with you. Don't know how long that will last.

We ate here this weekend and were very impressed. The staff was really nice to our two-year-old and she was fascinated by being able to watch the kitchen at work. Really liked our Queen and White pizzas (definitely need a pizza per person) but it was the Pea, Ricotta, Lemon and Lavender Toast that I'll never forget. So simple, fresh and good.

Checked out milk flower last night with a few friends, we had heard some good things and decided to try it out. We enjoyed all the food- the toast plate was delicious with unique combinations and favors. I had the ginger beer which was great over ice with lemon. They have a pretty good beer selection, didn't try the wine selection . Seems like it could be a good date place with its rustic decor and friendly staff. I would absolutely eat here again!

5 stars!! I cannot say enough great things about this place. I went to Milkflower over the weekend. They had really unique and delicious pizzas. The corn pizza was my favorite, the combination of flavors is amazing and unexpected. The meatballs are also exceptional. The burrata was one of the best things I have eaten...EVER! The servers were very attentive and knowledgable about the menu. The atmosphere was very cool and relaxed. I would definitely eat here again and recommend it to all of my friends. If you don't try this place you're crazy!

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
