Hands down one of the best sushi restaurants on Long Island! Freshest fish and great service from a friendly, attentive staff. I highly recommend this restaurant, you won't be disappointed.

My husband and I have come here every weekend for 3 years and it is by far our favorite sushi restaurant we've been to. We live in the area and have been to them all and Shintaro tops them all. They have the freshest sushi and the prices are very reasonable. They greet us every time we walk in with waves and big smiles and within minutes put free edamame on our table. Yellow tail jalapeño appetizer and valcano roll can not be beat. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for good/fresh sushi.

Yay! We found our new local yummy sushi place! It is delicious, the ambiance is great, and for a vegetarian (sorry, i know i'm a minority), they have tons of options. And good parking nearby.

I would say Shintaro for me was a one shot deal. We wanted to give it a try based on the other reviews but I have no idea what the other yelpers are talking about. I didn't eat at the place they described. The place is small but nice and newly renovated. My test for a sushi place it to order either pepper tuna or tataki tuna. I can then grade what kind of sushi i will get. It was ok served with a wasbi and spicy mayo. Had over cooked soybeans and soggy gyoza that tasted out of the box. Ginger salad was standard. We shared a body work roll and pink dragon roll. The body work roll was ok it and the pink dragon had no flavor and the texture was mushy. Didn't want to order more. For special rolls they were slightly small but they were only 11 to 12 dollars per roll. Unfortunately I had to hit the restroom hard as soon as I got home. I prefer to eat at the place across the street as it is far better.

I have been a loyal patron of Shintaro since they first opened, and I have never had a bad experience. Darin is always there to greet his patrons and knows most loyal customers by name. The staff is attentive and prompt. It's a great place to go if you're on the run and just want to have a couple of rolls at the sushi bar, where the sushi chef's are very friendly and pleasant, but it's also great to get a table in the back and have a nice leisurely dinner. My favorites: seaweed salad, delicately chopped oyster in-the-shell (awesome presentation), and spicy tuna. Parking can be difficult because Covert Avenue is a very busy street, so be sure to park by a meter and put in plenty of quarters - there's hardly any parking on side streets, and if you park in the lots adjacent to Shintaro, chances are you will get towed.

This simple, reasonable, Sushi Ya serves fresh sushi with a creative flair. Pictures of local diners, some with the fish they donated, hang behind the sushi bar. A pretty good assortment of domestic and imported saki round out a great local find.

I'm not some crazy foodie snob but I know sushi. Shintaro is an awesome sushi restaurant. it may not look the greatest from the outside and inside is pretty simple but the food is top notch. Across the street is another sushi restaurant that looks great but the food is cant hold a candle to Shintaro. My personal favorites are the spicy tuna tartare appetizer, King yellowtail roll and Sakura roll. The vegetable yaki udon noodles pretty awesome as well (better than the chicken yaki udon)

I have never ever had bad experience here. The service is always great and the food is even better!!! Their chicken yaki udon is one of the best my family and I had. We've eaten in a lot of Japanese places, but this is our favorite. Definitely a must go to place for affordable and delicious Japanese food.

LOVED the sushi! Completely turned me on as a fan of these dishes... The first time I went was my first sushi experience.... needless to say I now eat sushi A LOT!

There's no shortage of good Japanese in the area, but I think Shintaro comes out at the top of the heap. The sushi is of excellent quality, the lunch specials are a great bargain and the menu is as expansive as it is tasty. Service is good, it's a quaint & tidy space with no frills decor. Great for take out as well.

This is one of my all-time favorite Japanese restaurants! Everyone who works here is absolutely delightful and so friendly and warm it makes you feel like you're eating at home. The food is always so fresh it's straight from the ocean. I love their weekly specials they always come up with such great ideas for new sushi rolls. I have literally never had something there that I did not truly enjoy. Their plum wine is absolutely phenomenal (my favorite). If I could possibly give them 10 stars I really would. This is a great place that you can bring your family have dinner going to date with friends or better yet even take out and bring home.

This is one of our family's favorite spots to enjoy a great meal. Not only the sushi, but all l the food is amazingly fresh amd tasty, better than any other sushi on the island. Staff is friendly and warm, & service is quick and efficient. The spicy tuna tartar is the BEST, as well. Geat for date night or family dinner, the atmosphere is comfortable and open. As the loyal neighborhood following will attest, never a bad morsel here. We have been coming since the week they opened, & have never been disappointed.

A nice cozy sushi spot. The sushi and saki were pretty good. However, it is not as spacious which can be a plus or not, yet probably losing business to UMI across the street. The rolls were smaller than my favorite spot in Bayside, but it was no surprise. Decent spot for a nice sushi lunch, but that's all.

Very small and quiet. Great Japanese food for a great price. If you like tuna and shrimp tempura I strongly suggest their "Red Dragon Roll". My favorite. The staff members are very sweet and polite. Always a pleasure.

Can't get enough of this local Japanese restaurant that serves SUPER fresh sushi and amazing, creative rolls. Add in a staff that is very friendly and attentive and you have a homerun.

At eight dollars the lunch special with two rolls miso soup and a salad can't be beat. I got the spicy salmon roll and the spicy tuna roll. The spicy salmon roll was good, however the spicy tuna roll was a little slimy for my taste. Probably would choose something else next time. Not the best sushi I've had but great value!

The cleanest, freshest perhaps most enjoyable sushi place around. It certainly rivals anything out of the city and is easily comparable to Kotobuki in the special roll department. The staff is very attentive, and the quality is worth the value.

This was by far some of the best sushi I've had in a while. As most of my readers know I am extremely picky about my sushi but this place really surprised me. The fish was super fresh and all of the dishes my friends and I had were great. I had the spicy salmon tartar which was really quite different than other kinds I've had before - instead of a little tower, this came on little triangular crisps and the tartar was blended with avocado and spicy sauce, but no ponzu anywhere. So different yet so tasty. I also had a sweet potato roll which was perfectly cooked and not too heavy on the tempura. Additionally I had two pieces of sushi: salmon and yellow tail. This is usually my test - if that wins the place is good. So the salmon was so amazing I almost, in all my fullness, was attempted to order like ten more pieces. The yellowtail, which was slightly more fishy, but not overwhelming, was perfectly buttery. My friends had other pieces and they both had a Shintaro roll (their special) which they said was amazing. One negative, but not worth the deduction in stars, the helicopter staff would not stop hovering. We were in no rush, so what's yours? As a tip to the restaurant: back off your customers; every table there felt uncomfortable by the staff. Yes, they were super friendly and helpful, but the creepiness factor is a problem. In short though, I'm going back here - the sooner the better!

I've had sushi from all over and this place is my favorite. Amazing fresh, food, amazing staff and one of the best places to eat. I come here whenever I get the chance.

Love their sushi. Great sushi and great price. Always fresh. Great assortment and good creative rolls in addition to the standard traditional rolls. My husband doesn't eat fish/sushi but he does indulge me every now and then but he always gets the chicken teriyaki which he says is very good. They include the chicken teriyaki on a tasty bed of teriyaki noodles that my 2yr old daughter ends up eating too! Back to sushi... My favorite rolls- fantastic roll, pacific roll, volcano roll and naruto roll. Those are the special rolls but I also always order the standard rolls- salmon avocado, shrimp tempura, yellowtail scallion. Honestly all good. Never had a bad roll! As for appetizers the spicy salmon tartar and kani salad is really good. Ordered the calamari bc I saw someone recommend it on here and it wasn't bad but at $7 and such a small portion, didn't think it was worth it. Also to note, I mostly do take out from here. Overall great sushi place and good value!

Ordered take out, tuna sashimi was brown in color and just looked old I was afraid to even try it. Rolls were edible but had no flavor. Miso soup tasted like salt water. Definitely wouldn't recommend.

Excellent fresh sushi. Best Super White Tuna i ever had, and I order it whenever I eat sushi. Good variety of rolls without being overwhelming. Staff helpful and nice. Really nice bathroom.

Shintaro on Covert Ave. in Floral Park is the best sushi I have had on the East Coast. The staff is friendly, the atmosphere clean and quiet. The fish is always fresh and reasonably priced. Compared to the other Sushi Ya-type places and fusion resturants in the area, it is priced extremely well. I look forward to every trip to Shintaro. I highly recommend the Sushi Dinner (9pcs. of chefs choice sushi, with a spicy tuna (or reg. tekka maki) roll - FOR UNDER $20!!! I also recommend the Shintaro Roll (Spicy tuna inside, with tuna and salmon generously layered on the outside) as well as the Oshinko, Tuna, Salmon, and Eel rolls (as well as all combinations, i.e. Alaska roll or Eel+Avacado etc...). Everything I have ever ordered has been delicious. I usually order nigeri pieces of fish, but both sushi pieces and sashimi pieces are very generous in size (and fresh as can be!) My boyfriend does not eat fish, and has ordered their steak or chicken teriaki (over soba noodles) every time we go - he LOVES it. It is delicious. The tempura is also very good - crispy, flavorful and not a bit soggy! Every few times I have gone to Shintaro, the staff have offered my table an appetizer of edimame - on the house! The wait-staff there is very good at keeping you happy and full! I HIGHLY recommend Shintaro for some fresh delicious fish, tasty cooked entrees and a lovely overall experience. ********** Five Stars (but if I could I'd give them ten!!!!) **********

This place is pretty good, not sure if id give it more than 3.5, and being its not a 4... They get 3. Im not crazy about the service here though. i get the feeling as if the one lady working here expects your business rather than appreciating it. Food is freah though, no complaints there, its really just the atmosphere and layout which is just wide open, no character. I'd give it a shot if your in the area, and I did try the place right across the street (literally) which is Umi I believe, Asian fusion. I had only the sushi at that place, and this place is better in my opinion, although I don't rush here either if I have time and a choice.
