Beautiful interior, good food, and a nice waitress. I enjoyed my meal with my girlfriend. The waitress even took our photos.

Overall this is a very good spot for an area with few locally-owned restaurant options. Went here for dinner the other night and was able to sit out on their patio. The server was attentive to our group and the seating was comfy and spacious. I always get the corn fritters (a can't miss) and ordered a margarita and chicken burrito; both were excellent. I saw the fried chicken being served at multiple tables, and know for a fact that their ribs are top-notch. With the patio it makes this cozy winter spot a good choice for warm summer nights.

I'm writing a review after perhaps 15 dinners at this local spot. In general we give it high marks for great burgers, great BBQ (pulled pork, etc.), the cornbread, and more. Although the menu also has it's weaker spots, such as the flavorless burrito, the chicken, and the fish/chips. We also caution against sitting outside, where bad odors sometimes assault your nose. Fortunately, inside is comfortable and inviting. Service is usually friendly and good though we've had some recent problems with slow bar and kitchen service (30 minutes to get a drink!) on quiet weekday nights.

One of my favorite local restaurants. The food is consistently good, the staff is attentive and the decor is warm and cozy. We have never had to wait to be seated, and after dozens of visits we have never had a bad meal. Prices are reasonable. Highly recommended.

This place is unusual. It serves southern-style cuisine (yes, there is more to southern cuisine than BBQ), something you don't generally find up here. And compared to what I've had south of the Mason-Dixon Line, it does it reasonably well. The quality is very good, with generous portions. There is always something interesting on the menu. The decor and atmospher is pleasant and on the rustic-side, making it comfortable for casual dining but suitable for a more formal outing. The only small gripe I have is that the prices are a tad bit high. But it's really the only place west of Chatham that can be considered refined until you hit Albany to the north or Hudson to the south. Compared to Valkin just up the road, at least you get plenty of food for the price.

My husband and I decided to go back to give it another shot. The locals like it very much, so maybe our first visit was just an off night. I ordered the Black Bean burger off the back of the menu and it was fantastic. Perfectly spiced, excellent cheese and just great all around. It is a little mushy, as is expected with a burger made out of beans, but still great. Also had the fried calamari which is excellent. Third time I had a pasta dish that was a special - a spicy cream and whiskey sauce over fresh pasta with scallops and shrimp. The sauce wasn't too heavy or thick and the flavors were outstanding. My husband and I shared an order of the corn and maple pancake type things which are more of a funnel cake with corn in it. They're amazing. The corn bread is pretty good, too. They sat us by the fire in the back and it was a perfect date night. It's also one of the only restaurants in the area that serves Samuel Smith's oatmeal stout. Someone who works there knows their beers. Yum.

Lovely dinner here on a Monday night. It was very quiet at 5:30 pm and our server was excellent. We shared the romaine hearts salad and they were kind enough to plate it separately in the kitchen for no extra fee. I wish I read the reviews first because I ordered the fried chicken and it WAS bland as some of the other reviewers have said. I liked how it wasn't too greasy and was light, but it needed more seasoning. The excellent mashed potatoes helped. My mother in law loved her turkey pot pie. We both took huge doggie bags home - the servings were extra large. My favorite part of dinner was dessert - amazing pumpkin tiramisu! It was so moist and featured the perfect combination of pumpkin and spices. Definitely one of the best desserts I've had in a very long time. With a half carafe of wine, I think it came to about $80. Totally reasonable. Definitely stop in if you're in the area, which is cute.

We are so happy to see one of our favorite restaurants reopened! Went last night, everything (but the chicken) was awesome - had the Thai wings, crab cakes and corn fritters along with the candied bacon burger and austin chicken (the chicken was flavorless, I should have listened to another reviewer and gotten the ribs - I will next time!). We brought home half of everything (except the chicken) so I get to revisit our meal today for lunch!

Sizable portions. Rib eye was tremendous, as were the lamb and rib entrees. Rustic setting, great service.

I went here last night with my boyfriend and his family and really liked the place! I was worried there wouldn't be too many options for me as a vegetarian but there definitely were things I could order. The cornbread they bring out is TO DIE FOR. It's obviously got a lot of sugar and butter and it just melts in your mouth. I got the soup special to start - gazpacho with avocado and fresh corn and it was really refreshing. Also healthier than my boyfriend's pulled pork nachos :) Then I ordered a risotto that was actually delicious -- I was impressed. Dessert: apple cider donut bread pudding...... omg. I'm making this at home. Serving size is huge and the service is really great. I feel like this place has got it right. Enjoy it!

Went in at about 8 on a Saturday night. No wait, but the place was hopping. The corn fritters were delicious. The fried chicken was crispy, but under-seasoned (i.e., bland), but the accompanying mashed potatoes were creamy and tasty. We were seated in the back and once other tables left, the waitress forgot about us for awhile. The food is reasonably priced. All in all, it was a good meal, and I'll definitely return for another visit -- I'd give it 3.5 stars if I could.

Couldn't really find any fault with anything. Food was good - service too. I'd give it five stars, but I like to reserve that for places that are very special.

Great local restaurant! We are in about once a week. Love the service, food, atmosphere and drinks. Spring rolls, pulled pork nachos, burgers, filet with onion rings, southwest salad, everything is good.

I went here last night for dinner with my Dad, brother and sister. My brother's six, so it can be hard to do fine dining with him. Fortunately, The Carolina House provides good food in a decent atmosphere and is family friendly. Ryan was pretty happy with the children's menu. I was surprised by some of the menu selections. I think the wood interior made me think it would be just a steakhouse. Actually, it's more Southern-inspired, with plenty of Creole-type dishes and the table gets served a basket of biscuits and cornbread. I decided to go for one of the specials - the roast half duck with a blood orange sauce, red skin potatoes and broccoli. It was a huge portion for 20 bucks. I would have liked the sauce to be a bit more flavorful - maybe a little spice to counter the sweetness of the orange. I liked that the duck came with actual slices of blood orange and not just the sauce. The broccoli was just steamed and the potatoes were a little bland. I think they would have been better if they were a little more roasted. I like my potatoes a little crispier usually. The duck was good though and I took a large amount home too. I also snuck a bite of my sister's Kahlua cheesecake, which was delish. Our waitress was great too, if a little scatterbrained. Overall, the food here is good, but not great. However, with the prices and decent atmosphere, I'd definitely come back. It's solid. There's just not a lot of surprise. Sometimes though, that's what you need - solid.
