3 out of 3 Italian octogenarians can't be wrong. I work at the hospital near by and occasionally do research studies on the local elderly. One day three silver haired gentlemen swore to me the only reason they even bother to come down was so they can get the sandwiches at this deli after, so I decided to swing by for a try. Great mozzarella! I had the prosciutto, mozarella and roasted peppers on a roll, soft, moist, savory, salty. Can't complain!

I am not Italian, but I could tell that this place exuded Italian authenticity. The kissing of the cheeks with the customers- the owner knew all the customers, definitely a neighborhood deli. This place may be small, but it is packed with just as much stuff as the delis on Arthur ave. I ordered some roasted red peppers, fresh mozzarella, and a baguette for the makings of my own sandwich. The peppers were swimming in flavorful oil with plenty of garlic. So delicious! Needless to say, I made a pretty darn good sandwich.

The best. Wonderful food, nice people, amazing value. The cooked foods are better than anything on Arthur Avenue. You want Italian Buratta? No problem. You want real Buffalo Mozzarellla? No problem. Aged cheeses? No problem. Fresh pasta? No problem. The best home made Italian food? No problem The prices? Insanely reasonable. Do not miss this gem.

THE go-to place for everything italian. fresh sausages, mozzurreellla ! , chicken and eggplant parm, homemade pasta and meatballs from scratch. it doesnt hurt that its right around the corner from where i work and my 3x a week lunch spot. (i'd go there more often if it didn't mean more crunches at the gym) service is top notch and you get to know the familiar faces after a couple visits. i'd give it 5 stars but its cash only and they don't deliver.

One of the best italian delis in a neighborhood full of italians and italian food shops. G&R has excellent meats and cheeses and also stocks some of the more difficult to find imported items, all at pretty reasonable prices. Also, the fresh ravioli & pastas they have are of such quality that I often do not bother with Arthur Avenue's Fresh Pasta stores anymore. G&R is both more convenient, cheaper and has a quality that is high enough to make it a solid choice, especially just before holidays when places on Arthur get insane.

Probably the best deli in the Bronx. However I wouldn't wanna get in over my head as the mighty Arthur Ave. is still a tough competitor. But besides that you're not gonna get any better as far as authentic Italian delicacies outside that realm. Many years ago me and my friend were walking home when we passed by this famous deli. All of a sudden he pointed it out and exclaimed "This place makes the best heroes". I questioned his statement as it was so random and he went on to say that if I didn't believe him we could go there the following Friday. I took him up on his challenge and that Friday we went and I was introduced to most savory, tasty hero I ever had. Though the place looks like a hole in the wall do NOT be fooled for once you walk in your bombarded with all things Italian; cured sausage and other meats hanging from the ceiling, a variety of different jarred and canned products all imported from Italy, pre-cooked and uncooked selections such as rice balls, salads, fresh mozzarella, pasta and of course, OF COURSE arguably the best authentic cold cuts money could ever buy!! Granted you could go in and get your usual hero with ham and american cheese BUT if your a guy who's particular about his sandwiches and value top notch cold cuts definitely order Italian! You can never go wrong with such classic favorites as capacolla, sopresatta, prosciutto, and mortadella, Sorry salami but you're gonna have to take a back seat to these fellas. A hero with some hot capacolla, fontanella cheese and sun dried tomatoes and your day is officially complete!! For all of you out of towners please make the trip because it will be worth your while. These guys have been in the business for well over 30 years so if its one thing they know its quality!!

This place is the definition of a hidden gem. From the outside, this small unassuming storefront is easy to miss. In fact, I only ended up there because I was across the street at the bank and needed a to grab sandwich fast. But inside you will find an Italian deli that rivals any I've been to in the North End (grew up outside Boston). Inside the door you will commonly see leak customers who are on a first name basis with the owner and employees, and as soon as you taste the food, you'll understand why. Although they have some hot entree items, I've never ventured past the Italian sub, and for good reason. The salami, prosciutto, and mozzarella are simply beautiful cuts. The bread is amazing. The marinated peppers are spot on if you like marinated peppers. They give you generous portions resulting in a sandwich substantial enough for 1.5 or 2 meals depending on your appetite. And it's only 9 bucks. So get an amazing lunch, treat your hangover or impress out-of-town friends with your discovery of this place that no one (on yelp) seems to know about. Cash only, but there are two ATMs on the same block. No seating in deli, so have a plan on where you are going to eat this special food.

Classic Italian deli location and family favorite. Fresh homemade mozzarella as well as great bread, homemade food, and imported products top the list of reasons to come here. Delicious, consistent, and reasonable for wedges and catered events.

Hidden gem? If you like old men who lear at women and gossip behind the counter, act like they are doing you a favor to wait on you, flies on the food on the counter, and salads soaked in enough oil to Fry ten pounds of cutlets, then this is the joint for you obviously . Those of you that rave about this place obviously missed Mickey mouses appearance at lunch time when he came out to perform for the customers. Filthy gross place.

Ever heard of "Soup Kitchen" on Seinfeld? This place is a staple with the old local Italians and has been in business for many years. Even though the hot food is good and tasty, it is soaked in gobs of oil. You almost have to accept thier offerings if your looking for a hot meal besides who's going to go to the trouble to make eggplant parmisian or saugage and pepers if thats what you want. All those old timers are respectable except for the one guy with the playboy bunny on his neck. With him you definetly get the impression he's doing you a favor by waiting on you. When you order sandwiches he never makes it the the same as the others counter guys. You can see each of the owners have different perspectives on food quality and consistency. On several occasions I had to discard the order I'd been given because I've been given end cuts or lesser quality than the others give. It's a chance, You never know who you will get to serve you and if you start making special request I can picture maheim breaking out. Sad but true, and since this is one of 5 choices we have in the neighborhood I occasionally have to subject myself to this Deli.
