This is a semi-hidden gem in NYC. As you walk down the street, it will feel somewhat deserted (as far as NYC standards go), but don't let that deter you. You will encounter a bouncer at the door, and the cocktails at The Ship will not disappoint. This is a great venue, has a unique atmosphere, and is perfect for a date night. When you walk in the restrooms are located upstairs, and there is a large staircase that brings you down into The Ship. The venue is open and inviting. The mixologists are very knowledgable about all of the specialty cocktails that are listed on the menu.

I went here as I am trying to conquer my Bookmarks :D lol Anyway it was a very nice and dark setting, which I love. The treat of it being having to go downstairs once you enter is very appealing. As you have a full overview before entering. :) Food sizes are Sampler types and prices for everything are a bit higher - Martini $14. So please don't be fooled by the closeup photos. Wish the waitstaff was more attentive. I don't care what your prices are, but I do not like working for my food, having to flag someone, ANYONE as they walk by, is just ridiculous. Especially with your price points and atmosphere you are trying to create. Tried the Deviled Eggs, Lobster Rolls and Sliders. Overall - I loved it. Even with my hangups.

For those who feel the need to escape Manhattan on a voyage to New Bedford like Ishmael, The Ship is the perfect alternative to the Pequod. Like a speakeasy, this vessel is clandestinely tucked away on Lafayette Street. As I approached the red pin signaling my final destination on Google Maps, I was convinced that I had the incorrect address. The street appeared abandoned and every storefront on the block had its steel rolling gates drawn. The only distinguishable detail was a bouncer sitting on a stool underneath the numbers 158. He read the look of relief that washed across my face when he warmly accepted the sliver of plastic and polycarbonate that is my license. Immediately past the entrance is a forked path. On the left is the restroom with a communal sink complete with a maze of pipes and brass faucets. On the right, there is an area with tables flanked by stools; a peaceful refuge from the loud decibels of the dining area. Straight ahead is a slope of stairs leading to the main deck of The Ship. If the name was not a dead giveaway, the theme is nautical. Periscopes, like those found on naval submarines, are inverted and fixed to the ceiling. The hostess generously allowed my party of two to selfishly claim an entire booth. Each booth is similar to giant canopies of water resistant liferafts, complete with painted numbers. Parallel to the booths is a wall laminated with dark blue wallpaper. Every inch of the pattern is covered with translucent squid frolicking behind metallic gold discs with their ribbon-like tentacles outstretched. In between two bare glass light fixtures with finger-length filaments is a fireplace. Notwithstanding that the theme was thoroughly reflected, it was not done exhaustingly so. The cocktails here are crafted with quality ingredients. Each cocktail is served with a stainless steel straw with a metal disc that is fixed to the end; dual-purpose for crushing ice and stirring furiously. The Mount Vesuvius ($14) is heavenly. The top layer of a can of coconut milk is skimmed off and used as the base. The rich and fatty cream of coconut is mixed with pineapple, a splash of orange juice, and scotch. Nutmeg and cinnamon are sprinkled on the top of the mountain of ice. Try the Bartender's Choice ($14) if you're feeling bold. You will be asked for your preferred liquor and flavors. With a few hints, the bartender spontaneously crafts a cocktail to your liking. Upon my request for coconut and rum, he formulated a tailored version of a piña colada. Naturally, he chose to mix in sweet pineapple, sour lime, and crystals of sea salt. The cocktail was embellished with a pineapple leaf. With every sip, The Ship had brought me further from New York and closer to a picturesque island fringed with palm trees. Some Pro Tips: Their still water is refreshingly delicious as it is infused with orange peels. Bathrooms are well-maintained and clean. Customer service here is incredible. Despite that Jo was our server, the entire staff took care of us throughout the night.

my drink was good, so was my guy's... well -the sugar was not mixed well into his drink, so he ended with a huge swig of sweetness at the end, but he was happy enough. The service was also good. The venue was a bit tight and I think if the lights were turned up a bit, I would see things I would not want to see. So - all in all, it was good but trying too hard. I would tather go to a dive bar and know i was getting dive vs a bar that is trying not to be dive but is kind of dive-y.

3.5-4 stars. This review is just for the food and ambience (didn't have any drinks there tonight). The space itself is pretty small. There is an upstairs area that overlooks the entire downstairs area, which contains seating and a full bar. The vibe is trendy and modern. The theme is nautical, which was a nice touch. We ordered the Kalbi Sliders, which were DELICIOUS. I liked how the bread was pretzel bread-the saltiness really complemented the tender meat. Not a terribly large number people was there on this Friday night. The downstairs area was decently populated but the upstairs part was fairly empty. This place is definitely somewhere to come for more intimate conversation/sipping on nice cocktails paired with hip food rather than somewhere to turn up. I enjoyed our experience but didn't think it was particularly worth going seeking out if you're not in the area. Took a peek at the cocktail menu and drinks are $14 a pop. I'm definitely hoping to come back and try the drinks but just going by ambiance alone I feel that there are better places for nice cocktails. This is definitely a solid bar to check out if you're in Chinatown/FiDi!

It had a very nautical feel, despite being in the concrete jungle. Any case, I love how the ceilings have an incomplete feel to it with the pipes coming down from it. It makes it feel like you are in the lower levels of a ship, drinking away the sorrows of a long day. Well..... some of the imagery of being at the bottom of the ship was the bathroom, since it had a communal wash sink. The bartender was very helpful with us and let my friend have some fun with the bartender's choice, which was $14. Since my friend enjoys the harder stuff, the bartender made him something that really got my a friend in a more cheerful mood, which made my night more entertaining and giving the curator of the drinks a slightly a bigger tip from him. I ordered the Mount Vesuvius, $14, which was quite refreshing. It had the coconut milk as the base, which blended very nicely with the scotch and orange and pineapple juice. The nutmeg and cinnamon that were drizzle on the cocktail made a nice finishing touch on the drink.

Really cool spot if you can find it (inconspicuous door with a bouncer who looks very un-bouncerish). The cocktail menu had so many good options and we knew we were only staying for a drink so we ordered six different drinks and sort of passed them around. They all delivered. The space itself is downstairs and I guess you can see why they call it the ship, but it isn't overly nautical by any means. A few booths and seats at the bar, but mostly just a gathering ground for people as they do a night out. I definitely will go back.

This bar has a very cool vibe and some delicious cocktails. It was in the high end of the $$ price category and some of the cocktails were just classics with a fancy name slapped on them. The wine and beer list was lackluster and very upmarked. It wasn't quite what I was looking for for my night out with friends, but it would definitely make a good, hip date spot.

A ship in harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are built for. Yes, sometimes ships are built for awesome cocktails instead! The Ship is a relatively new, and very trendy cocktail bar on an otherwise pretty deserted strip. The entrance is surrounded by metal roller doors that give off the impression that you're in an industrial part of town and got the address wrong. But fear not! All you have to do is look for the banner flying above and the bouncer in front. Why they need a bouncer, I have no idea... But once he checks your ID, you can step down into what looks like a movie scene. There's cool lighting made from old metal pipes (the biggest of which looks like a moon at the right angles). There's a ton of seating with both booths and high tops. And there's a cool little balcony adjacent to the bathroom with it's giant unisex tub sink. Service can leave a bit to be desired (had no fewer than 3 people serve us through two rounds of drinks, and there was a miscommunication where two of the women both thought the other was covering us). But once the drinks started coming in, it was hard to complain. Favorite drinks (in order of preference): -Virgo Sun (rye, Montenegro, maple lemon) -On The Spot (rum, orgeat, pineapple and lime) -Starboard (cachaca, lemon, cocchi Americano, peach liqueur) -Burrapeg (Scotch, ginger, peach/chocolate bitters) Loved the flavors of the Virgo Sun. Simple but also boozy. A few of the other ones were more citrusy and on the sweeter side. The only drink I didn't love was the Burrapeg, but it got better the more you sipped and got the nuances of the bitters. The cocktails are reasonably priced (at $14) and they also have a small plates menu with charcuterie and some hot foods that smelled great. Didn't have any though. The vibe of the place is cool, with mismatched chairs, spraypainted mirrors, and a back section. It'd be cool to host an event here, whether for a company party or for a Yelp one (hint, hint). If you're in the area (and even if you're not), you should give The Ship a shot.

This place was a real treat on our way home. Unique belly of a steamliner feel. Great drinks! Bartender was half artist half wisenheimer which we loved. Made the best tequila drink I've ever had. Place felt newish, and the food seems to be still catching up to the drinks maybe? Not bad but not good either. Definitely worth a trip back to find out.

While we were here on a Saturday night I overheard the girls next to us say, "I feel like I would really like this place at another time." And I thought to myself, "Nailed it!" Because in theory this place is great--cool space, amazing drinks, very nice and attentive staff. But at the time we were there it was just a little overwhelming. Not really crowded, because we got a table easily, but just kind of loud? There was a dude contingent in the corner that whooped and hollered and cheersed each other A LOT. And another group of girls in the center that did a lot of shrieking. We basically finished our drinks and checked out immediately back to the quiet of the streets. Now, I'm not one to deny anyone a good time but my fella and I went to the Ship because we thought it would be more chill, with great cocktails. It could have just been a weird night with a random group that doesn't usually come in which is why I'm not going to dock them any stars (especially since everything else was so top notch) but it was enough to make us agree that it's not a place we'd probably not return to on future trips. Just too many other places for us to explore when we visit. But if I lived in the area I'm sure I'd be willing to check it out again.

The Ship NY: Manhattan: SoHo 9pm Saturday 20th June 2015 Four Stars You will literally walk past this place if you are not looking too closely. At 8:39-9pm it was relatively uncrowded. We sat in a booth left of the stairs. The place was romantically dark with some nondescript music was making easy to have a good conversation over some adult libations. The first round we tried a couple cocktails off of their list: TIJUANA LADY served Tequila, liqueur 43, lime, angostura bitters shaken and served up in a coupe. MOUNT VESUVIUS contained Scotch, orange juice, pineapple, house coconut served in a highball with crushed ice and topped with nutmeg & cinnamon. The Second Round we went with bartenders choice. We had a Black Berry Concoction and Pimms Rangoon Variation with heavy black flavors served in a highball with a ice spear. Every drink had the proper glass. The Ice was beautiful: Cube, Crushed, and Spear. The bartenders here were top notch. The Food menu was an upscale appetizer list. There were no bacon wrapped dates available so we opted for Brussel Sprouts, Salmon Devil Eggs, Radishes, and the Characuterie. The Brussel sprouts had a tender bite. The Asian dressing adding a unique flavor to the traditional. The peanuts added a definitive crunch that the sprouts didn't have. The four devil eggs were standard. It could have used more spice. The radishes were kind of boring but at least they served it with aioli. Their menu says anchovy garlic aioli. I have pet peeve when people or places say "Garlic Aioli" which is like saying ATM Machine. It is simply redundant. The name aioli is just latinate base for garlic and oil. Without garlic it's just mayonnaise. The Characuterie was worth the $20. The jamon serrano was cut thin like prosciutto. You could taste the fennel, fat, and Tuscan love In the finocchiona. Overall a great way to spend $40 a person for a couple drinks and some apps.

Since moving into this neighborhood for almost a year now, The Ship is easily the best hidden gem I have stumbled upon. Apotheke is still as amazing as ever, but this cocktail spot is the perfect blend of casual and intimate ambiance. If a venue comes across as pretentious, patrons are often the ones to create that type of atmosphere. Fortunately, the pretentiousness has not found its way over here...yet. The cocktails are very good and will not cost you $20 a drink. If rum and rye are your spirits, then On The Spot and Ward 8 are the ways to go. If you enjoy a surprise, the Bartender's Choice would be a great idea. A good selection of red wine and beer adds great a good amount of variety as well. The bartenders and staff are very friendly and have amazing memory. You will have as good a time sitting at the bar, at a table, or a booth. As this spot inevitably gets more popular, it is going to be hard to find a seat. Therefore in the spirit of being self-serving, I will just say that every night is busy night!

This very interesting bar I went to as part of a birthday party's finale. It was the last stop post dinner for a drink and hang out with the birthday girl. The concept of this place is that they furnish and decorate it all with old ship parts and nautical paraphernalia. The ambiance of this place is unusual since you walk in...go down a long deep stairway but the entire stairway you can see the whole bar. This place looks huge because of the high ceilings and probably is that big, but the area to sit and walk around is kind of small. Drinks were ok, definitely on the high end but that's what you're paying for - a cocktail made with lots of ingredients you probably wouldn't be able to make yourself (unless you had everything and had time to experiment with drinks and different liquors)

This was such a treat! Drinks on deck was not just a war cry tonight. Discreetly located on an industrial block, it's easy to miss. Luckily the bouncer sitting casually in front of the door marks the spot. Upon entry it's hard to believe how much detail is placed into this nautical themed high end venue. Before landing on the main floor, which is located one flight down, there is an up stairs seating area that over looks the bar/booths located one flight down! Beautiful! The communal washroom has a very country, port/dock feeling. Superbly maintained. On the main floor, it's trendy 28+ crowd. Social venue, recommended happy hour stop. Me and the male bestie stopped in and got a seat at the bar. Our mixologist Michael K served us two rounds of the bartenders choice which did not disappoint. We ordered some tapas. . The sliders which were crazy delicious, they were full of flavor and savory. I wanted 12 more. We also had the Brussel sprouts, lip smacking good. The service was excellent, cute bartender, and friendly owner! I'd highly recommend

**NICE BAR IN SOHO** Thank you, Yelp for this bar recommendation. Came here with two girlfriends and sat at one of the booths. AMBIANCE ========= Lofty warehouse-like ceilings. Cozy seats. COCKTAILS ========== $14 cocktails on the menu. Ordered a vodka martini with a lemon twist. Very good and refreshing. RATING: 4/5 PRO TIP ======= Seating is first come, first serve basis. Cool concept by eliminating the VIP treatment. Everyone is VIP here! OVERALL ======== Friendly and efficient staff. Good cocktails and funky decor. Liked the co-ed bathroom. RECOMMEND in the SoHo hood.

Hey, you know what sucks? Making reservations for 8 people for 4th of July and showing up with the entire crew in tow only to find the venue that ACCEPTED and CONFIRMED your reservation is CLOSED. I wouldn't be able to tell you about the cocktails, nor the atmosphere, but this situation gives me a good idea about the service.

Really nice hidden bar. I almost walked right passed it but glad I didn't. Great ship theme inside without being kitschy. We got an old fashion (he said he'd "had better", though it was a great presentation) and bartenders choice (I said I wanted something "desserty" and got a drink with rum, cream and honey - which was good but very heavy). The bar is gorgeous and a total surprise. Will be back to try some different cocktails.

Truth: I was super bummed out when Milk and Honey closed. To the rescue: One of my friends found Ship! Ship is a beautiful cocktail bar that is adorned in old ship parts. Look at the ceiling installation, booths and sinks and you'll know what I mean. Sounds grungy but I can assure you, it is not. Thanks to the warm lighting, dark woods and beautiful wooden bar, this cocktail lounge feels intimate, sleek and alluring. Perfect for an amazing date night. And thanks to the lack of signage in the front, the crowds are kept at bay. The cocktails were amazing! I asked the bartender if he could make me a specialty cocktail with elderflower in it. He made me 'Around The World', this amazingly refreshing cucumber, mint, elderflower mixture. It was heavenly. Dominicana (with a twist)- milky, slightly acidic and slightly sweet. Very strong. What a great time! I will definitely come back!

This place is so cool. We stayed right next door at the Nomo soho. When we first went up to the door we walkout didn't go in because it looked closed down but we decided to turn the handle anyway ha. Anyway, drinks are good. Service was good. And it's such a cool space. I will definitely return next time I'm in the city.

This place is so weird inside! Tiny but high ceilings; you really feel like you're going down the stairs into the bottom of a ship. It's quite dark inside, but with candles on all the tables. The custom cocktails we got were great - mine had strawberry and tequila, my boyfriend's was similar to an Old Fashioned. They just asked what flavors we liked and made something up, which the waitress recommended rather than ordering off the menu. We liked them both so much that we each ordered another of the same. They were definitely pricey but strong. The tables were cozy and intimate; a good spot for a date but a little loud/crowded for a large group unless you come early. I'd have a drink or two here and then move on to a more relaxed place.

This place is absolutely gorgeous. The outside, like many other NYC establishments, is unassuming, but once you're in past the blacked out door, you're transported, as the interior has sort of an underwater/ground industrial type of aesthetic. The drinks are unique and the bartenders are really nice. I don't remember what I ordered, but my friend had a hard time choosing and asked the bartender to choose the sweetest one for her. He was absolutely polite and was entertaining to watch while he mixed our drinks. While there weren't any tables open, there was a small balcony type area that had a bunch of stools that we were able to cop while drinking. Our drinks were both strong and seemed to have a sophisticated balance - far from overly sugary or alcoholic. I'd love to come back and try the foods, and will be pushing this place onto all my friends to try.

I met a girlfriend here for drinks and to catch up on general life goings on. It's a wonderfully secluded little bar just north of Canal street on what sort of feels like a bit of an abandoned block of Lafayette. In fact you could almost walk right past the door if you're not looking out for it. You take a narrow staircase downstairs to a narrow dining and bar area with soaring ceilings. It's as if they removed the first floor and seated you in the basement, a very cool experience. We came on a weeknight, maybe a Tuesday? And it was nearly dead silent, which suited us just fine. We had seats at the bar and some snacks (olives I believe and another delicious dish that I can't recall) and wine. The wine list by the glass strikes the perfect balance between really delicious expensive wines (I love me a barolo by the glass!) and more modestly priced wines. The cocktail menu looked exciting also and it was fun to watch the bartender make all the drinks. I have to say, it was refreshing to find an intimate space that wasn't crammed with college students or snogging couples. I'm definitely putting it in my rotation for weeknight meetup spots when I need to catch up with friends.

Truly a great spot all around. The interior is contemporary industrial with a fitting and tasteful nautical nod. The space boasts high ceilings, multiple seating options that can accommodate small and large parties, and a loft with additional seating to chill. The vibe is youthful and casual yet sophisticated, and increasingly more romantic as the nights (or drinks) go on. haha All the components of a well-rounded cocktail bar come together including a solid cocktail program, seasoned bartenders capable of filling high-volume orders efficiently and expertly, a varied small plates menu with healthy portion-size, and wash of hospitality starting from the courteous bouncer at the door. I was pleased to be able to order an espresso with my first cocktail when I went after work at 11pm, and even more pleased that the presentation of a simple shot of espresso was taken into consideration. Raw sugar cubes, espresso glass and embellished saucer, and a proper espresso spoon. The details of this place is what really makes it for me. Each cocktail on their menu reflects the a generous amount of alcohol, complex yet approachable flavors topped with a thoughtful garnish, only to be complemented with well-made ice in columns, crushed or cubes. One of my favorite drinks is the Mt. Vesuvius. The only thing that would make it better is the summertime heat because the drink is so damn refreshing! Really glad I made it out here after having it on my "go-to" list for a while. Don't be shy to ask the bartenders to whip you up something new with your favorite liquors or flavors. They're very knowledgeable and sure to make you something creative and delicious! Plus it can be an excuse to chat up the cute bartenders if it's that kind of night. ;)

Hidden and off the beaten path, The Ship offers strong alcoholic beverages and light snacks. I had a mulled cider and man, this place can definitely get you drunk in two drinks or less. I recommend getting the sweeter drinks if you don't like the strong alcoholic taste in your libations. The mulled cider was nice, it was warm and semisweet. It reminded me of Glühwein from Berlin. The after taste wasn't too terrible but it was still really strong. The atmosphere's good for dates or small groups of friends, very cozy like the lounges I've been to in Copenhagen.

This place came recommended to me by Gary at Isola and I am so thankful I listened. WOW. If I live here, this would be my spot. Look for the flag waiving above and you'll find the door. You walk in and approach what looks like a moon, but isn't. Walk down the stairs and welcome to the Ship's bar. There are 7 seats at the bar. To the left, 6 plush booths. To the right, 5 tables. In the middle. Skinny communal tables. The bar is where the magic is happening. There is a cocktail menu, but honestly I recommend the "bartender's choice". Use your words. Describe your innermost thoughts on booze and flavors. You'll be happy. I arrived after 9 on a Wednesday and was pleasantly surprised with ample seating. Closer to 10 it started to fill up. Luis has even my guy behind the bar tonight and he's been rocking it. I let him know why flavors I didn't like and he set me up with a drink I'm totally on fan of, but with a different liquor: a GIN SMASH. Next, (after I asked about the crazy straws and he told me about the muddled fruit drinks they do) I was served a CHERRY BRAMBLE. I love hand-crushed ice and beautiful cocktails. This did not disappoint. Absolutely 100% recommend.

not quite as "cool" factor as I expected, it is also a bit more tame than I imagined as well. music was low and mellow, if on at all. i had a martini, my friend had a belgium beer. good spot to bounce around from, don't need to go back.

Absolutely love this place! My best friend was in town, so we wanted to go out for a few drinks after dinner. First off, we stopped by the Mondrian to check out their rooftop to only get ignored by the host. We had a bad taste in our mouth instantly. No thanks! Thanks to Yelp, we found The Ship! It wouldn't be the first place you notice, but if the bouncer is outside.. I think it will make you wonder what the place is. Bouncer was funny and nice. We get inside and you see the wash basin and the bathrooms to your left. You go down the stairs and there is a hostess at the bottom asking if you would like to put your name down for a table. The place is small and there were 6 of us, so we got drinks at the bar and waited for a table. Bartender's Choice is a wonderful option. I ended up with a Mint Ginger Moscow Mule. Delicious, one of my favorite drinks. Love, love the candied ginger garnish and the metal straws! I stuck to the same drink, but my friend's boyfriend got 4 different Bartender's Choices. My favorite was the one that tasted like an espresso martini. Delicious and beautiful in presentation. I loved watching the bartenders creating their concoctions. It was quite the experience. The bartender, Yo, was the best! When we got to a table, it was almost sad to have to leave him lol. Got the Kalbi Sliders. Very tasty, lots of meat in the mini pretzel bun. Will definitely be back and will highly recommend.

The Ship is hidden and you will most likely walk right by it if you aren't looking for it. I walked by it and I was trying to find this place! This is a really cool spot where you have to walk downstairs to get to the main room which left for some very tall ceilings which opens the space up. The cocktails here are great and made with a lot of care. Our bartender Joe is one of the reasons this place is 5 stars. Rarely do you get a bar keep that can create an amazing drink on the fly but give you top service. At one point, he came around the bar to a crowd standing behind us so he could greet the new patrons with a menu. When we were leaving he remembered everyones name in our party which we told him once way earlier. I am not in the neighborhood too often but I will definitely come back here when I get another opportunity.

The amazing attention to detail and service at The Ship leaves nothing more you could possibly desire. A few girlfriends and I hit up an event that ended early in the area and wanted to stop for drinks nearby. A quick Yelp search lead us here. We almost walked right by the blacked out entrance, but noticed the name above the door at the last second. Look closely or you'll miss it! Walking in is an experience. The upstairs has a small balcony and bathrooms. A staircase leads down into a huge, high, open room. Giant curved ship pipes hang down from the ceiling and are gently lit from the inside, reminiscent of moons. The atmosphere is very low key and relaxed. Cervantes, who we later discovered was the owner, greeted us immediately and let us know they were rather busy. We let him know the bar was fine. The moment we walked up an employee handed us menus and the bartenders were checking on us, despite the crowd. I can't remember a time I had to ask the bartender for a few more minutes so I could get more acquainted with their cocktails. I ordered the warm mulled cider with rum. I couldn't believe how complex the tastes were. It was the exact perfect temperature. My friends tried some of their beers and some mixed drinks, all with approval. Cervantes grabbed us as soon as a table had opened up so we were more comfortable. After a couple more rounds we went for some of the small plates. We were given silverware and water right away after we ordered food, but not just regular water, delicious cucumber infused water. We got the artichoke goat cheese spread and the kalbi sliders. The sliders ended up being 86ed so Cervantes provided us with lobster buns without even having to ask us and comped us very nicely. The artichoke dip was fantastic. The lobster buns were delicately flavorful on a unique, sweet, puffy bun. Nothing lasted very long! I wish I didn't have work in the morning so we could have stayed later, but alas, we had to rip ourselves away from the oasis that is The Ship. Until next time!

You would never guess from the non-descript outside of The Ship how beautiful and special it is inside. The atmosphere is very trendy. Whoever designed the place is super creative and knows how to take a small place and really spiff it up! They also serve up top-notch cocktails.

Came here with one of my girlfriends on a sat night. Sat by the bar, great experience!!! Would defn go back! The place is super cute and has great ambiance. We ordered bartender's choice and a side of sliders to munch on. The drinks were all really good. Bartenders are extremely friendly and they comped one round of the drink without us complaining because the food came a little later than expected. oh, did I mention the Bartenders are pretty good looking?

It's quite the new, classy establishment that manages to be unknown to many, but in a good way. For those who enjoy speakeasies, The Ship is a venue you'll want to visit. You'll love it even more if you appreciate all things nautical, hence their name. Considering this is a lesser traveled area of downtown, it's the perfect spot for a cocktail bar that so chooses to be inconspicuous. I'd hate to expose this spot too much though, but undoubtedly, it's worth highlighting. From quality, exceptional cocktails to a fun, grandeur yet unpretentious atmosphere, you're in for a good time. Walk in and take a set of stairs leading into a mid-sized space with super high ceilings. Ambience, for the most part, is trendy yet intimate. It's great for dates, but also valid for small groups. Decor is thematically nautical and sophisticated, with subtle elements to adorn a large space. They manage to avoid any tawdry appearance. The bar lines the very front. Booths line the perimeter of the walls. Standing room mostly resides in the middle or by the bar. Mingling by the bar first, we were able to get a booth at back after a half hour wait. The booths are more private and conducive to conversation. Service was consistently friendly and helpful throughout the evening. Normally, I'd go for traditional cocktails off a menu, but I chose bartender's choice throughout the entire night; gin-based and one whiskey. Wasn't disappointed by the mixes and the recommendations provided, a true test of the mixologist's skills. They knew my tastes exactly. They also have a menu of both traditional and custom cocktails from which to choose. While serving up cocktails, there is a food menu of small samplings and bites. Sharing the Roasted Brussel Sprouts with spicy Vietnamese vinaigrette with crushed peanuts ($8) and the Devils on Horseback, almond stuffed dates wrapped in bacon ($10) with my date, I was impressed by the amount of flavor and their complexity. They paired exceptionally well with the cocktails. Just don't expect to be full from them. Overall, impressive cocktail bar in the downtown parts, worthy of attention. If you enjoy a quality cocktail, and wish to share that experience with a date, friends, etc. in a largely sophisticated space with unpretentious service, look no further than The Ship.

The drinks were very good, and I liked the service. Disappointed that they only had appetizers and no real food, but even so those were good. No cell phone service (with Verizon), which was mildly annoying. Also the bouncer was very pleasant, which is such a little thing but we had just had a terrible experience with the bouncer at another restaurant nearby, so it meant a lot of be treated nicely (kind of how you're supposed to treat customers coming into your place of work).

Pros- Decor was pretty awesome. High ceilings with nautical/industrial details. Service was also decent. Cons- drinks were just ok for the $14. Worst of all, the place did not have a fun vibe at all. We were there around 9-11pm on a Saturday night and it actually emptied out while we were there.

Wow, this place is legit. I used to live right around the corner from where The Ship now resides and I can assure you it's a welcome addition to the neighborhood based on the limited options for high level elixirs in the area. I have no idea what this space was before becoming a spacious cocktail bar + restaurant, but to my untrained eye, there's no way this was a destination to enjoy the culinary arts. A warehouse possibly? Who knows, but really, who cares. I popped in for a couple of drinks while catching up with a friend. Being a fan of spiritous libations, I went with the Bobby Burns first (scotch, sweet vermouth, benedictine) and a dirty pickle brine martini for a second drink. Both were prepared perfectly with nice balance while still holding onto a bit of a bite. I didn't have a chance to try the food, but the lobster roll (made with a chinese bao bun) needs to get in my mouth ASAP. If you're in the area, you really ought to check it out. It's quite the class operation.

This is a cute speakeasy type spot that's hidden til you spot the bouncer outside! I like their big balls of light hanging from the ceilings, hehe. You go downstairs and they have food (such as kalbi sliders) to pretty infused drinks.

Was going crazy trying to find this place and almost gave up when I got rescued by this gorgeous 6' Kate Moss looking angel who said, "if you're looking for the Ship, follow me." There's apparently a doorman on busier nights but it's an otherwise unmarked doorway that takes you down a long hallway and down.... down into a cool netherworld of amazing drinks and the coolest crowd I've been around in a while in manhattan. It actually feels more brroklyn badass than soho. Heard this place was part owned by the famous Cuban classic cocktail barman Cervantes (?) from Little Branch, Freeman's etc. Cocktails were amazing! So good I had three that I let the bartender choose so I don't even remember the names of but I just wanted to keep trying. Bright, balanced flavors and perfect ice. I thanked and asked the bartender's name and guess who it was! I'm coming back tomorrow!!!

Great bar located on the fringe of Chinatown, tucked away in the basement of some building which I'm sure was abandoned no more than a year ago. The bouncer's a nice guy, and totally your nondescript old white guy, who looks more comfortable cleaning up his driveway with a snowblower than standing in front of a bar in Chinatown at 1am on a Saturday. I just thought that was interesting. The bar itself is located in a cavernous space right as you enter, and the space is deceptively large. Modeled somewhat after an old ship, it's a great place to grab a drink with friends, and actually works out for large parties. The 8 or so of us managed to snag a table as soon as we walked in and very much enjoyed our cocktails. Service was fast and friendly. The pony-tailed dude at the bar is the freaking man. He popped out 8 drinks in under 5 minutes, all the while chiseling away at the square blocks of ice with a miniature icepick. Come to this spot early though, as there was a 40 minute wait when we first arrived.

**drinks review only*** Stumbled in to this place some weekends ago and I have been back a couple of times since then. The Ship is definitely a cute little "hidden" bar! Personally I am not much into cocktail bars, but my friends are, so it is always nice to walk into a place that has high quality cocktails and wine on their menu. Although I cannot speak to the food, I have had the pleasure of tasting many their drinks, both on and off the menu. There is really nothing to complain about. The staff is super friendly and attentive, and if you make sure to put your name in for a table when you walk in, you will most likely be seated within half an hour. But do not worry, you can still order at the bar, enjoy your drink, and bring it to the table if you do not finish before then. I also like that the security/doorman is very attentive to not overcrowding the place. We once had to wait 15 minutes before we could get in just so that the place would clear out a little bit. Not having the basement crowded with people is definitely a big plus; it makes it a lot easier to enjoy the drinks without spilling your drink on someone because you got pushed in the back. The noise level is surprisingly "low" so it is easy to talk to your friends. This reason alone might be why I keep letting my friends talk me into going back. Definitely recommend if you are in the neighborhood and craving a cocktail!

The bar is located on a very nondescript block and is a little hard to find. This kind of works to my advantage though because I hate overcrowded, loud bars where I can't hear a damn word my girlfriend and/or friends are saying. As for the bar itself, it's very nice and low-key. The decor is very seaworthy (I'm sorry) and the bar has a great selection and the price is right on the cusp of being unaffordable so it makes it great for a fancy outing without breaking the bank. The staff there are quite courteous and the hostess was kind enough to let me and my girlfriend know that the bartender would make us a drink or two based on a couple of our suggestions. This is great for us 'cause we're super indecisive. All-in-All, I definately see myself coming back here.

Popped in here on a Friday night. It is a hidden gem below some stores... easily missed! Dimmed, chilled atmosphere, perfect for a date (although I went alone (sad face). Cocktails tasted delicious. In fact you can just tell the mixologist your favourite spirit and fruit and they will create something to your taste! Will definetly go back... next time with a lady.

This will become one of our regular go to places when ever we are in the Soho Tribeca area. Service is absolutely terrific. Met One of the managers who couldn't be more accommodating friendly and informative. That having been said, the drinks are even better. Extremely creative, Unpretentious, and fun.

Went here with a bunch of folks and everyone seemed to love it. We were fortunate that we got in rather quick and were seated instantly. The vibe and ambience is like no other. You traverse down the stairs into a basement (I know, this sound bad, but just do it) and sat at a dimly lit table where we used the candle to try to read the menu. Yes, it is pretty dark in there or I need to up my beta carotene. The drinks were stiff, inventive and pricey. They will also make a custom cocktail for you with what seems like the oddest of ingredients. Old ship parts and some chicken wire? Not a problem. They will MacGyver the crap out of it. Lastly, the people who run the place are a class act. I, in my drunken stupor decided to leave my credit card there because being from Boston I just had to make my life more interesting. Called them the next day and a lovely woman answered and went out of her way to find the card, then mail it to me despite having no such official policy. Then I followed up via email and another gentleman informed me the card was sent out and was super helpful. When I am back in SoHo, coming back here.

Great décor, spacious, slightly hidden, which makes you feel special I met up with some friends here for a drink. I couldn't find this place at first, since it was nestled inconspicuously behind a small opaque black door. Even as you enter you have to walk through a narrow hallway, and then past what seems to be the curiously empty waiting area, and finally down a staircase, at the bottom of which you find the beautiful bar and its small pods of seats and tables. It's somewhat mysterious, with strange but fitting lighting. The drinks are a bit pricier but mine was great, even though I don't drink often at all. It's not too noisy and is a great place to chill and relax with friends.

This has become one of our go to places since it opened. The service is always great, nice people and I love the mystical dark feeling over it. Of course the drinks are amazing too! We use this place as after work or late night drink. You should definitely try it

Came here last night with a friend, and really liked it. It's a cool space, great for a date. There are not very many seats at the bar, but there are deep booths that are cozy. The cocktails are great - we both did "Bartender's Choice" which is a cocktail the bartender makes based on whatever drinks you like. The small bites are good, the brussels sprouts are by far the best thing on the menu. Bit expensive, but a cool place!

  • Jason P.

I had an excellent time here. The place opens at 6, and we got there at 6:30 and were able to get a seat at the bar. By 7 it's pretty full. Excellent drinks. Had the Tequila Honeysuckle and the New Orleans Buck. They likely need 1-2 more bartenders behind the bar, they were very busy and we had to wait a bit to get the bartender's attention.

I am coming out of Yelp retirement for a good cause: The Ship. The entrance is fairly nondescript but once you enter the space opens up and it is gorgeous. They definitely pulled the nautical theme throughout the space (including boat sails for the booth seats). The staff is extremely friendly and helpful when ordering cocktails. When I am deciding what restaurants to recommend the first places I list are the ones where you can eat anything and know they are going to do it right. The Ship is the cocktail version of that (and more about the food later). I have complete faith in these guys and gals to knock your socks off. And, as with all high-end bars, if you don't love something work with the bartender or sever to find something you do. Whenever I visit The Ship and am eating, I inevitably have at least two orders of the roasted brussels sprouts. The kalbi sliders and deviled eggs are also high up there on my list. The food is smaller sampling sizes so keep that in mind when deciding how much to order. Despite being underground this place is already pretty busy (but not in an obnoxious way). I imagine it'll fill up even more once winter rolls around and people are spending more time indoors. In the meantime, do yourself a favor and come check this place out. If you like places like Little Branch, Angel's Share, Raines Law Room, Ward III, etc. you'll love this place.

  • Alex K.

I'll start by saying that I haven't eaten or drank here. I've walked in twice, on two different occasions... with every intention of giving this place a try, but it STINKS in there. I don't know if it's a mixture of truffle and simmering cabbage and brussel sprouts, but the stench is overpowering and it lingers in this stuffy undercarriage of a space. I highly recommend they get better ventilation, or change up the menu. But as is, it is really offensive and claustrophobic. On a completely separate note: cool bathroom, and the doorman is always very nice.

In a word, go! This place gets it all right. Tasty drinks, fun atmosphere, accommodating of my service dog (thanks for the special doggie meal!) and generally wonderful all around. Go check it out, you won't be disappointed.

pros: - close to my yoga studio - recently opened so still uncrowded - there's a large-ish space in front of the bar as well as banquettes. wait for a banquette was less than 10 min cons: - it's right by the mondrian hotel so i can expect it to pick up steam - cell service is minimal downstairs, so for those perpetually late / lost (me), that's a problem

It's fun place to be at . Nice bar but lately It's been so crowded there that i hate it . However the bar itself nice drinks are good always good to try something new ) go there earlier because it fills up quickly and you might end up standing all the time that what sucks about this place but it wasn't like that before tho .

i really wanted to like this place, but my experience fell short of its other reviews. let's start with the good. i love a discrete entrance, and The Ship has just that. once you get inside, the space is quite large and the ambience is classy, yet casual - which i liked. it would be good for groups, as there is ample seating and large booths. now for the bad. they have an option on their menu that's called the "bartender's choice." i felt like being surprised, so i went ahead and ordered it. i asked for a drink w rum that was somewhat sweet and tart. when the waitress came back with our drinks, she handed me my....strawberry daiquiri. what?!? if you dare to have something on your menu named the bartender's choice, and i'm paying $14 for a drink, i would HOPE that you create something way more innovative than something i could have ordered at a hole in the wall tiki bar! now, they do have a disclaimer that says feel free to send it back if you need to- which i would have, had our service not been incredibly slow. our waitress was polite, but it took forever for her to grab our order, get our drinks, and get the check. i will say that she was the only waitress that i saw, so maybe they were totally understaffed for a friday night, but still. i would maybe give this place another chance some day, but not for a long time. there are too many other places that have the whole package. if you are looking for a place on par with angels share, raines law room, or even B flat, you may be disappointed.

LOVE THIS PLACE! DRINK - Best cocktail bar! I tried BOBBY BURN and NEW ORLEANS BUCK. Both of them are very good but if you are a whisky person, definitely get BOBBY BURN. INTERIOR- Nice vibe and very cool interior design. It almost feels like a speak easy place where you step in, you'll feel like you are somewhere else. They have booth area so it will be perfect to go with group of friends. FOOD - They have small bites and DEVILS ON HORSEBACK is must have! Bacon wrapped dates and almond. Perfect bites for cocktail. Overall, food and drinks are amazing with good service. I would totally go back!!

3.5 stars. We totally thought this place was closed when we walked by. The entrance is so tiny, so just look for a tiny green flag outside bearing the establishment's name. It looks much nicer once you walk inside and down the stairs. I liked the nautical decor. There's a bar, plus tables and booths for dining. The bouncer was really nice and let us know it was standing room only when we arrived. It wasn't crowded at all - just no available seats. The Ship isn't a place I'd go out of my way to check out, but it's a good option if you're already within a 2-3 block radius and want a sliiiightly upscale place to drink and dine comfortably.

Loved this place! My friend and I ended up here after not being able to find a bar in Chinatown. At first we were skeptical as the location is very isolated and from the outside it's not that welcoming. However we managed to open the door and we were pleasantly surprised to find this beautiful themed place. The option of "bartender's choice" was great. They asked a couple of questions and brought us a personalized drink. It's good to note that if you don't like their choice you can send it back. We both were very happy with the drinks. The Blueberry Margarita was just on point. We ordered additional drinks as well. The Jack Rose was my favorite. Strong enough with a fruitful flavor. Definitely would go back! Thank you for an awesome experience.

A knock-out. The energy is cool and laid-back. The design is refreshing and incredibly well-executed. It's a sophisticated spot where you can relax and let your hair down. One of those gems of a spot in which you're almost afraid to tell people about because then it could will become the new hot spot. It's sure to be. The mixicology is simple but profound. I tried the Little Devil and then decided to go for a Bartender's Choice. I'm a big fan of clean drinks made with high quality ingredients, and this spot is perfect for that. Slick glassware and presentation make it a great place to host a client, take your lady on a date, and/or just hang out with good friends. It's a place for men and women. I will most definitely keep coming back. Love it!

Good inventive bar food. Good hidden feel. Great to be right in my neighborhood. Only tried 2 cocktails so may change rating later. It's so small, just hope it does not change to one of those expensive chic and pop places that's tough to get in.

Another cocktail bar to go to...yay for me. I tried the following drinks: NEW ORLEANS BUCK - aged rum, pineapple, ginger, lemon, lime, & angostura bitters. served in a collins glass and topped with soda. Really yummy. Love the ginger taste. TEQUILA HONEYSUCKLE - tequila, honey, and lime. shaken and served up. I like the New Orleans Buck better than this drink, but Tequila always makes me feel good. The interior is cute and they have the fancy stirs like Milk & Honey and it wasn't too busy when we went. I would come back here to try the food.

A decent place to grab drinks. Hip crowd and nice ambiance but the drinks were slightly lacking. The chin chin is worth a try. The drawback was we had to wait outside despite a waiting area inside and the place was not nearly to capacity. However. Once inside we were promptly seated at a table

I wish I had a date I could bring here. It's the perfect spot for one mon-wed. The drinks of course are great, the lite bites we had held us over and were yummy. Loved having to call my friend and say that I was lost when I was practically standing out front. Not sure why it's called the ship, should really be called the bunker, eh who knows. The bathrooms were lovely though.

I thought the staff very pleasant, great service and good drinks. The bar area is very crowded (Saturday) and you might have to fight for a seat so I would suggest you to make a reservation for a booth. Its a good spot for date or hang out with your friends and actually hear what they say. I will definitely come back.

Awesome new secret spot with a cool ambiance. Downside is that it's very small and hard to get into. First time the drinks were great, but it definitely depends on the bartender...this time the drinks were a bit strong and not so tasty. Service is also a bit slow but to be expected at places like these in hopes for a good cocktail so that's where they need to be careful.

  • Mona R.

Another cocktail place popping up in the city. It's a decent place for an after hour cocktail. It's a bit loungey, but quiet (for now, since it's new-ish) and the servers are courteous. I had the Tequila Honeysuckle which was okay but too sweet.

One word. Out of this world FANTASTIC! Not only are the cocktails great, the small bites are sinfully delicious. I mean who would want to go back to a place to eat brussel sprouts?! That good! And lets not forget the short rib and the lobster rolls. The complexity of the pairing of the food with their ultra-chic, sexy drinks makes you think, why havent i been here before?! It is a must and a true NYC gem! Kudos to Cervantes for being such an accomodating and amazing host! A must for any NY native and visitor!

Great bar hidden away! We were looking for the door and almost walked past it, so you really have to want to come here and know about it in advance. Great unique cocktails, and love that they have "bartender's choice" so you can ask for your own creation. Was not too crowded when we arrived at around 11:00 PM, but we did have to wait for a seat to open up at the bar, and then after an hour we moseyed to a table. Fantastic spot for excellent cocktails!

I went here on a Friday night to meet up with a 3rd cousin who I haven't seen in 20 years. I wanted to go to a place that was quiet, cool, and casual. It was just that! The drinks we got were very good. We were both happy - I got the honeysuckle tequila and enjoyed it. I also got the brussel sprouts as a snack and they were delicious. My cousin and I had a nice time catching up. The noise level at first (around 6:30) was great, but it got a bit louder as the night went on. It wasn't too too loud though. An overall positive experience. I would definitely go back.

I was in the area waiting for someone and I saw someone come out of a door I hadn't even noticed was there. This place has the feel of a speakeasy and the ambience is really cool. There are booths all over and people were having a great time eating and drinking. We just stopped by for a drink and boy was it a good one! Bartender chipped the ice off of a large block and made us good, strong drinks. I tip my hat to you, bartender!

If being greeted with one of the best specialty cocktails isn't enough to sell you on this hidden gem (literally), just dare order an appetizer or two, and you'll be all-in. And I dare you to order only one of the roasted Brussels sprouts appetizer dishes. Next to impossible...even if you don't like Brussels sprouts. Really, they're that good. Great food. Fun drinks. Cool atmosphere. Go.

Perfection. As other reviewers have pointed out, it's very hidden and looks like nothing from the outside- once you get inside it's surprisingly spacious and elegant, very lively but not so noisy that you can't have a conversation. The service was incredibly attentive and friendly, the bespoke cocktails were amazing and -ooooooooooh- the kolbi sliders... I have no words for them. Just try them.

This bar is as good as it gets. Hidden away and a little hard to find but once you find it you won't forget it. Cocktails were amazing! The bar itself is gorgeous. The service was perfect. Had an incredible whiskey sour. Cannot recommend this bar enough!

Came in for a drink on a super cold night and toured the hot drinks menu. We ordered an Irish Coffee, Mulled Cider and Hot Butter Rum - and each drink was fantastic. We'll definitely be back. The decor is nice and the atmosphere is high end but relaxed. I really like the hidden feel of the place - makes you feel like you're in on a very cool secret.

Slow and forgetful service on a rather slow Friday evening. It's unfortunate because I was really looking forward to trying this place. Our waitress didn't come to take our drink order for over fifteen minutes, forgot the one food item we ordered, and overall left a bad feeling in a space otherwise very cute and exciting. If this place wants to live up to everything else right it has going for it, it's going to have to start by changing its service.

Heard about this place on Yelp, so figured we'd give it a shot. Service was good, and friendly. For our first drink, we let the bartender choose, based on what we were looking for....something refreshing, and no whiskey. Came up with a "cherry sour"...don't remember what was in it, but it fit the bill perfectly. Next had the New Orleans Buck....excellent. Got an order of the Devils on Horseback and the Kalbi Sliders....once again, excellent. Just fyi, we were in there early on a Saturday night...7 ish...and not crowded at all...sat at a table...service was attentive, and very easy to have a conversation. Not sure what it gets like later. Great start to our night.

a very unassuming entrance to a spacious cocktail lounge. beautifully curated space. went on a saturday shortly after they opened and it was great! i had a few bartender's choice cocktails. one was a bourbon-honey-ginger-citrusy concoction and the next one was with gin-rosewater-ginger and other amazing things. they were both verryyyyy delicious. am definitely going back for more! kalbi sliders were very yummy and the kimchi in the lobster buns was such a great surprise! and very tasty. (i'm korean so it's always fun to see the different things people come up with using korean cuisine staples.) if you enjoy a tasty cocktail, go to the ship. and if you're unsure of what to order, trust the bartenders.
