Everyone at work always talks about how great this place is so I finally tried it. The slices are big but they are greasy and the sauce is salty and kind of gross. I got one regular slice and one fresh mozzarella and the cheese on both looked pretty much the same, yellow and oily. I know it sounds awful but I'd rather have the 99¢ slices one block up.

I had the fresh mozzarella slice. It was simple and good. I bet it would have been great if I had ordered a fresh pie instead of getting a reheated slice. I'd go back.

$5.50 2 slices and a drink. Pizza is good and cheap

They have a lunch special where you get 2 slices and a soda for $4.50. The slices are big and tasty, the people behind the counter are friendly. This place is a good option if you are in the Hells Kitchen area and want something fast and cheap.

It's not awful and its cheap, so I gave it two stars. I believe its the closest pizza place to my apartment, and yet I don't see myself going back sober. I would need to have a few drinks in me, and be too hungry to wait for delivery from any number of far superior pizza joints.

I never review on yelp but felt inclined to! We ordered around 8:30. After no delivery by 9:30, I called to check on it's status. I was told it was on its way. After another 25 minutes with no food, I called again. After asking if the food is on its way, there was no response, the guy just hung up the phone on me. 10 minutes later the food arrives ice cold. The calzone tasted sour, they actually put a garlic butter inside for some inexplicable reason. The pizza actually tasted good after I get it up in 20 minutes. Mmm, nothing like ordering at 8:30 and eating at 10:30! Especially such light fare as Sicilian pizza and calzone. Never again!!

We ordered delivery from here yesterday at work and it's great! we got baked ziti and lasagna and they both came with salad and bread, and it was really good. I don't know what the place looks like in person, which is why I didn't give it 5 stars. I'll totally order delivery from here again.

The Good: For a neighborhood that inexplicably has a dearth of decent pizzerias, Fat Sal's pizza is pretty darn good. Their hot parmigiana heroes are much better though. And they're huge! The Bad: Their Italian hero comes slathered with mayonnaise, which I find unforgivable!!! Yuck! Plus, considering it only really consisted of thickly-sliced domestic ham, salami & provolone cheese (hardly the makings of a good Italian hoagie), the salami was turning gray, which I found totally disgusting. I tossed the massive thing after a few bites. (The one plus: it only costs $5.)

As tiny and intimidating the store front of Fat Sal's is. In a small 10'x10' room, is a very narrow countertop and a gentleman selling pizza. It's a bit dingy, almost questionable, but surprisingly they serve a solid pizza that won't disappoint. The only reason why we checked out this place was because of a LivingSocial deal where we paid $9 for a large plain pizza and two 20 oz. bottles of soda. When I went to the store to order, he mentioned that I would have to pay an additional $0.80 for tax. I wasn't that bothered by it, but it really did agitate me when another customer had come in with the same LivingSocial deal and she told him she didn't have any spare change on her. He told the customer she didn't have to pay, which irked me a bit. Anyhow, moving on back to what counts, the pizza. It took about 5-8 minutes for our pizza to be boxed. We were provided with another paper bag of plates, napkins, and packages of parmesan cheese, red chili flakes, and oregano. The pizza was your average New York pizza. The pizza dough was not too thick nor chewy, and was seasoned with salt. I was glad the pizza dough was not bland like some pizzerias make the mistake of doing. There was an even spread of tomato sauce and cheese, making for a fairly good pizza. Although it didn't amaze me, I had no gripes, but at regular price, I would go down the block to 7th Ave. for $1 slices at 2 Bros. Pizza, which is just as good if not better.

Fat Sal's Pizza is located in Hells kitchen in Midtown West. The Rating distribution for this restaurant is mainly three stars but there's also a lot of four stars as well. A tip for this place is if your in a rush order online. The most popular dishes to order here would be their large pizza pie and their hot Parmesan heroes. The prices are very reasonable and the portions are very big for a pizza place. Come here with a very hungry stomach. The noise level here is pretty average but it could be pretty loud depending on what time of day you go. When people talk here you hear everything. The best time to come here would be lunch but some people coming for dinner as well. There is really no waiting time at this place I need to come here anytime. The staffs attitude here is pretty good and Sometimes they could be pretty stressed out if it's very crowded here.

Overpriced, terrible sauce, this place should be ashamed to call itself authentic. I tried it a few times and it never improved. Not sure how this place stays in business. It's always empty with delivery guys sitting inside.

Like many others, I also redeemed the 1 Large 18" pizza with 2 bottles of soda for $9 deal through Living Social. The pizza was huge, and was better than 99 cent pizza, and comparable to most pizza joints in my neighborhood. Definitely worth the $9. However, there was 80 cents tax on the deal. Unlike Brian Jin M., they didn't give me a wink and smile and dismiss me. I only had my credit card, and they told me there is a $5 minimum (ILLEGAL). I ended up buying three more sodas to get to the $5 and charge it. Also, they would not accept looking at the deal on the phone, despite it saying that that is sufficient on the deal. I had to ride my bike 20 blocks to print the voucher and return. The pizza is good, but the process to redeem this was a bit of a pain. If you're doing this deal, bring a dollar in cash and your voucher and you'll have a great experience.

In the last two weeks, I've ordered from here two times. I left pretty satisfied... Here's what I've tried: 1) meatball parm. for $6.50 yelp.com/biz_photos/3zk7… The sandwich was large with very good bread and cheese. However the meatballs were a bit dry and the sauce was boring and thin. It was somewhat of a disappointment, but it wasn't the worst I've ever tasted either... 2) sausage with peppers & onions parm. for $6.45 yelp.com/biz_photos/3zk7… The sandwich was not dry at all and the sauce tasted much better. I guess the oil from the sausage created more flavor in this hot mess. You definitely have to use a knife and fork for this bad boy Summary: For what you get, Fat Sal's provides an adequately TASTY meal.

I didn't think it was possible to have bad pizza in NYC..until I ordered from this place. Cheese was sliding off, sauce was terrible, crust was doughy instead of crispy. My first order from them was my last.

Love this place, they always deliver to my job the fastest and their lunch special for $6 you can't beat! I get the lunch special with choices of pasta, type of pasta sauce you want (meat sauce, parm, marinara) type of meat (chicken, meatballs) and a soda. It's delicious! I have tried the Bread Factory's version of their pasta but it couldn't compare, nothing beats the taste of this place! Tried the Pizza once, it's pretty delicious but nothing compares to the the pasta, love being a Fatty at Fat Sals!

Redeemed the 1 Large 18" pizza with 2 bottles of soda for $9 deal through Living Social. To keep it short, pizza indeed was large and the pizza had just the right amount of cheese on it and the cheese itself was pretty good too. One thing that was kinda weird was that I never knew about having to pay taxes for my purchase, I just thought it was $9 and done but the total itself came out to $9.79. On the bright side, when I told the cashier that I didn't bring any cash (I rarely carry cash unless I'm hittin' the bar or something) with me he said "no problem" with a smile. I will definitely return. Pizza here is a lot better than 2 Brothers Pizza which I sometimes have doubt on their cleanliness. But hey, I'll return again if I crave for pizza in the neighborhood~

i grew up eating at this place frequently. their pizza has gotten better over the years, but its not good or bad, just so-so. my one recomemdation is their vegetable slices, but dont get the lasagna (its not very good). i love the old posters on the walls though, its very cozy. but its not very clean...the wooden counter by the window looks like it hasnt been cleaned or polished for decades.

Overall the pizza is good and consistent. The sandwiches are hit or miss. Skip the chicken fingers

I was in the City for a business trip and needed food at my hotel. There was sports on TV which made getting it delivered a must. I searched around and saw mixed reviews on Fat Sals. This location was close and I ordered online. I got a Small (16") pepperoni pizza and 10 mild wings. I saw mixed feelings about this pizza, mainly because it is too greasy. I will admit if you are used to clean pizza this might not be for you. But also the place is called Fat Sals, so if you are expecting health food maybe you should look for pizza by Thin Sally. This was one of the better pizza's I have ate. Plenty of cheese, sauce and crust was great also. I just wish I could have finished the whole pie. Its hard to give more input on pizza. You either love it or hate it. I would say the pizza was how I expect NYC pizza to taste. The wings were standard, they tasted good had enough meat on them and the mild was indeed mild. They gave plenty of blue cheese and celery with the order which I like. The blue cheese was great and chunky and not saucy. I ordered online so I cannot speak for how friendly they are but the delivery guy was fine. My only complaint was that they did not update the online status past "pending" so I was unsure of when the items were out for delivery. The hotel did not allow the guy to go up to my room so I had a surprised call to go to the lobby. I am not sure if this is normal either but the box was a little soaked through from the grease. They may want to look into better boxes as some people might complain.

I have no idea what their pizza is like, but their chicken parm is HUGE and pretty good. I generally like my chicken parms saucy, so I would recommend asking for extra marinara sauce when ordering. Their eggplant parms are delicious as well.

Their pizza is terrible - the only pizza actually worse than LJ Pizza, and that's saying a lot!. They are slow to deliver (and I live a block away) and their ingredients don't have that fresh taste or appearance. I suspect customers choose them because their prices are cheap! And, anytime I've been in the place, it has been dirty and ill-kept. If you complain or report a problem, the owner argues and puts the blame on the customer. I have no idea how they get a grade "A" from the inspectors! You can find great pizza nearby so don't bother going here.

3.5 stars. Have tried cheese and pepperoni slices along with a tomato with basil sicilian pie. The pizza was average for NYC and the slices were big and filling.

  • Calvin H.

Need to qualify my rating here. IF you order a fresh / whole pizza -- 5 stars. Fat Sal's makes a great pie. However, if you stop by for a slice, 3 stars because it is old pizza that's been sitting there, needs to be warmed up, and reheated pizza just doesn't taste the same / as good. They don't have enough slice turnover, hence you get old / cold pizza...

Decent pizza, charges a bit to much for cheese pizza

Yep. That's a solid three stars. They probably would not have grabbed my business had it not been for the fact that they were a block from my hotel and there was a howling blizzard out. Convenience: the mother of the let's-just-go-here attitude. I almost want to give them one more star for having delivery dudes that were riding their bikes out in the maelstrom. I could barely walk, let alone think about riding a bike. The pizza was serviceable. Good, but not great, and also not bad (which is key). It definitely filled my starving guts, which made me very happy. The pepperoni slice was good, the eggplant wasn't as good. My companion in the blizzard finished her pizza without thinking twice. The weirdest thing was rather than having us pay when we ordered, we paid after we had eaten. I was pretty sure if we'd made a break for it we could have not paid at all. It was pretty bizarre and made me enjoy my pizza less, because I was constantly watching the counter, waiting for someone to wave me over to pay up.

For some reason I'm drawn here when I walk out of my office aimlessly looking for lunch. When I haven no idea what I want to eat, this place is a strong fall back. Cheap, quick, and just down the street. You probably won't want to eat here, since it's not much larger than a counter and kitchen. I haven't actually had the pizza here, but coworkers have said that it's better than the $1 pizza place up the street, but nothing amazing. I tend to get their italian cold cut combo or eggplant parm sandwhich. Both of which are huge and cheap, and not too bad tasting. In fact nearly anything you get there is going to fill you up for most of the day. So there you have it. Cheap + fast + close + not gross = frequent visits.

$2.65 for cheese slice. I got it crispy and it came out perfect. No herb toppings, no bull...just good ol pizza. Their English isn't so good, but they're nice folks.

Absolutely massive slices - probably 1.5 - 2 times what a slice normally is. I always accidently order too many slices because it's so good! Recommend the hawaiin, the cheese, actually the whole lot. Good for a quick lunch on the cheap when you need a pizza fix.

These guys are the McDonald's of pizza! You get a lot for your money, it's good, greasy, and hits the spot when you just want food in your belly. You might not feel so good about it later though. =P The baked dishes are huge and have TONS of cheese. Fast delivery and always hot!

Never disappoints. For lunch I ordered to slices and cheese fries. What is it about this place that keeps me coming back for me. Its just soooo good. My roommate got the raviolis which were awesome. I could seriously eat fat sals everyday, but then i would be fat jason.

I live really close to Fat Sal's. They are my favorite authentic NYC Pizza place. Big slices, great food, fantastic for picking up or delivery. Way better than Uncle Marios, Hells Kitchen Pizza, or the fake Sal's down the street. I get their pizza at least once a week, totally worth it.

Horrible! I ordered a slice of pizza, antipasto salad and chicken salad only to have to wait over an hour to get the order incomplete when it got here . The delivery guy was rude and didn't want to come up to deliver the food. Fine, I thought, but when I called to let them know I was missing something, they hung up on me as soon as I told them my order was incomplete. I called again and needless to say, the guy on the phone was rude too. We finally get the pizza and not only is the pizza dry but there was also HAIR on my slice. It made me second guess the cleanliness of this place. I do not recommend this place. Bad service, food is not edible and everyone is rude. After a long day of work, this is not the experience I was hoping for.

Their chicken parmesan is the best i ever tasted Its very filling by far!!

Terrible customer service. Ordered pizza from here off seamless, and the delivery guy basically screwed up (not FS's fault -- that's on seamless). I called the restaurant to figure out what happened, and I was yelled at and hung up on without getting more than a few words in. My fiancee called separately (thinking a woman's voice might help reduce some of the tension), and the FS person on the other line did the same to her. Unsurprisingly, we never got our pizza and will never order from Fat Sal's again.
