I'm surprised to see the star rating so low here. I'd been here once years ago and was pleasantly surprised by one of my first Mexican food experiences. I will admit that my friend and I chose to go here because of the convenient location and because we had a coupon but we didn't really have any complaints! We arrived during happy hour so got half price glasses of pinot grigio (kind of a bummer only one red and one white was half price). We split the giant empanadas for an appetizer which were piping hot, with bug chunks of cheese inside and a nice, tangy sauce. I had enchiladas with a tomatillo cream sauce which were pretty tasty, though I like mom's better. It was a big portion that came with the classic refried beans. My friend had a gigantic chimichanga- which we learned is a burrito with a flash fried shell. And then for dessert, the sorbet trio which hit the spot and was light enough not to make us over-stuffed after a heavy meal. Our waitress was friendly, patient, and attentive. I read in some reviews that this place is under new management so maybe it has made the difference after some of those less that great reviews I read!

Tried going back. Food was not good. Waitress was inattentive or stupid, or both. No one there seems to really care about quality. I no longer wonder why it is mostly empty on a Saturday night.

Let me save you a lot of wasted time, don't bother! Horrible policy of no reservations, but if you are in the know, you can call ahead and skip everyone waiting. That happened to us. After 30 minutes, and numerous people walking right in skipping ahead, we got fed up and told them we were leaving (there were still 2 parties who could show up and skip us, as well as one that claimed that they called but were not on the list, still let them skip). The 2 high school hostesses didn't seem to care or realize that they lost customers for life. At least in NYC you get amazing food with your crappy service and long wait. Definitely not going to put up with that in Fayetteville. Went to King David's across the way... 1000 times better!

Steak fajita wrap was drenched in "zesty mayo" aka mustard. I've never had mustard on a fajita in any Mexican restaurant before.

Tried this place due to a recommendation, despite the less than great Yelp reviews. But the Yelp reviews were pretty spot on. Ordered chips and "large guacamole" for an appetizer. Received chips, two small salsas, and small guacamole (same size as the salsas). I thought that was just standard procedure to include those and I did enjoy them. But the bill later on was for chips and salsa $2.99 and large guacamole $4.99. Nothing about that guacamole was large, it was 1/4 of an avocado. They should make it a little clearer that you are actually ordering chips/salsa as the base item and then adding guacamole to it and do not call it large. I got the chile relleno, which is a favorite from other restaurants. The menu stated that it was filled with black beans, corn & cheese blend, and other types of cheeses. What I received did not have any black bean or corn, and was just a cheese filled fried pepper of mostly one type of cheese. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't good. Nothing I would return and pay money for again. Service was poor. It was not a busy afternoon when we were there. There was a lot of standing around by the kitchen chit-chatting instead of checking on tables. There was a strong glare from the window and the waitress politely offered to close the blinds. Instead of immediately closing them we sat there bothered by the sun while she took drink orders, went back to get the drinks, brought them out, put them on the table, and then finally closed the blinds. We ended up just switching to the next table over. The waitress asked for our drink orders, then after we gave them asked if we wanted to hear about drink specials. While we were looking through the menu she checked if we were ready/had any questions, but we did not. Then when we were ready to order she asked if we wanted to hear dinner specials and that "they're really good", well thanks but a bit late. You should tell the customer these at appropriate times, not ask if they want to hear them after they have decided. There were infrequent checkups and plate removal. Entrees came out and there was no place to put them on our small table due to 2 plates for appetizers and a large plate to hold the salsas. When we were finished and plates were removed, a desert/coffee menu was placed on the table to look over instead of asking if we actually wanted any. Instead of asking then and there and getting our check, she had to come back and ask, then get us the check. Money better spent elsewhere, mediocre reviews are warranted.

No complementary chips and salsa. The calamari was rather flavorless, except for the tentacles which were a bit fishy. The smoked beef enchilada was dry and salty. Our server spent a fair amount of time chatting with some guy seated in the bar...twirling her hair around her finger most of the time. We were not impressed. With The Mission at just about the same price point, we will be going there in the future.

Went about 2 months ago. New head chef, and very much improved! Excellent chile relleno-- in fact best I've had in years. I thought the old chef/menu was meh... so this was a nice surprise!

A neighborhood favorite. Great drinks. Sitting at the bar on a weekend night is a favorite of ours; fast service and friendly servers. Is it authentic Mexican food? No. Is it delicious? Yes.

Was in syracuse area and wanted Mexican. We would never go back. TERRIBLE service. Very rude waitress. Halfway through we get a different waitress. Food was not tasty at all. Very overpriced and just plain ridiculous. I wouldn't feed this food to my dog.

Average overpriced food, costly margaritas without much tequila. Service was slow and unattended. our server didn't know details of the menu's specialty items, we won't be going back

Yummy Mexican food! We've only been here a couple times but the food has been great every time. I had a pork dish prepared something like an osso bucco that was to die for! It tends to get a little crowded but that's a good excuse to have a mojito or margerita at the bar. My only complaint here is that the sangria is VERY expensive - it's tasty but not worth the price tag. I hope to make it back this summer to enjoy the outdoor dining.

It looked so fun. The atmosphere seems right for normal Mexican food in non-Mexico. I was so wrong. $13 a burrito? This better be a darn good burrito!! I ordered the Cameron (to which the waitress replied, "Good choice!") and I thought I was in good hands. I'm still so baffled at how this went so wrong, so fast. It sounded so good! And there was so much shrimp!! But the squash was still raw, and the shrimp was way too salty. I'm not joking about the salt. I piled all the beans and flour tortilla around my fork with one shrimp, and it was still too salty. I drank so much water, and still couldn't finish. I was so sad for my burrito!! I took it home, still couldn't finish it, and my dog didn't want it anymore after one salty shrimp. And she eats everything. I also ordered a fish taco on the side. I always think that a good way to judge a mexican restaurant is with their tacos. They are simple, and hard to screw up.Right? Wrong again! Since when do tacos come with sweet mayo, a HUGE fillet of fried fish, and a sprinkle of kraft shredded cheese? ... and a side of coleslaw? I don't get it. SUGARY MAYONNAISE?? No lettuce? No cilantro? Just... a big fish coated in mayo and sprinkle of cheese? It was like... fish n chips. Minus the chips. And in a flour tortilla. I also took it home. Ended up scraping all the weird mayo off and eating it like normal fried fish.

Came here for a dinner & drinks with a friend. Didn't have high expectations going in, but I was still let down by the quality of the food. We started with chips & salsa and I ordered the shredded beef enchiladas with mole sauce for my entree. While we waited for the food to come, I did notice a number of flies in table area of the bar, where we were seated. A big red flag in my mind. The chips were a standard affair, pre-made from a bag. Two difference salsas were presented, a pico de gallo and a spicier red salsa. The pico had no flavor, basically resembling only a bowl diced tomatoes. The spicier red salsa was all heat, no taste. More disappointing were the enchiladas. The corn tortillas were tough, the shredded beef was dry, and the mole sauce was sweet but had a burnt taste. The black bean side was passable. The spanish rice was tasteless, though moist. Overall, very disappointing. The quality, taste, and value of the food was far below my expectations. Frankly, it's tough to find decent Mexican food in Syracuse. I would highly recommend heading over to The Mission instead for much better Mexican-inspired cuisine.

Went for a late dinner and drinks with friends on a day when have the town was out of power and they were very busy. We had a table in 15 min, so we got stopped at the bar and grabbed our drinks. We had nothing but great service the whole time. One of our parties asked for recommendations from the waitress and she was able to dive right into a couple she thought he might like and they were excellent! I had the burrito with shrimp in it and it was excellent! the shrimp were tender but huge! everything was so flavorful i had no complaints. I wouldn't say it's the best tex-mex i've ever eaten, but it's certainly worth the stop if you are looking for an excellent meal!

Ok to start the only reason I have this place a star is because I had to write a review and the server was nice. Let's start out with my brother in law ordered a Dos Equis on tap and the server came back and said they're changing out the tap then came back again and said we've 86'd the Dos Equis. (You are a mexican restaurant you should never have to 86 your mexican beer selection) Also, upon arrival I was a little disappointed to learn we don't get complimentary chips and salsa. We asked for a side of queso and the server said I'm sorry did you ask for chips and salsa I don't recall you asking. Stunned I asked, "Oh I thought they were complimentary my fault. Never have I ever been to a mexican restaurant with no complimentary chips and salsa. " So we order our meals. I got the steak, grilled zucchini and onion and cilantro asiago gratin. It wasn't bad, the steak was dry. So needless to say we won't be back. Had high hopes and let down.

The service was very good but the food was just okay. Most Mexican restaurants I've been to include chips and salsa to start but here you had to pay for it as an appetizer. There was also a very strange smell in the restaurant that I noticed as soon as we walked in that was very unappetizing.

As one of the only Mexican restaurants in the eastern suburbs of Syracuse, we are lucky to have Papa Gallo. The interior of Papa Gallo is colorful with the images of roosters everywhere (Gallo is Spanish for rooster). There are colorful tiles on the wall, and a nice array of artwork and wall hangings behind the bar and in the main dining area. We decided to sit at a table in the bar area so we could keep an eye on one of the TV's. It took us a little while to get a server, but it was a fairly busy Friday night, so this can be forgiven. Once we had our server, we ordered some of their fresh chips and salsa. The chips are served with a fresh tomato salsa, chunky with bits of tomato and spice, and also with a thinner spicy chipotle salsa, which was fantastic. Our group ordered burritos and quesadillas as our main dishes. All of the entrees were generous in size. My burrito was drizzled with a tasty sour cream sauce which gave it a nice aftertaste to mix with the chicken, beans, and rice. The quesadillas were ordered with a side of guacamole, which received rave reviews from our table. None of us had any of the margaritas or mojitos that were on the menu, but those looked fantastic as they were going by to other tables. Our waitress was very helpful with refills on water, and bringing us boxes to go. The price was higher than other Mexican restaurants in Syracuse, but Papa Gallo seems to be a little more upscale than the others, so it seems justified. There is an outdoor seating area where I would like to try having a margarita when the weather warms up. For a nice place to spend an evening in the F-M area, Papa Gallo fits the bill.

Food was decent for tex mex. Nothing too crazy about the chips and salsa. What brought down the rating was the service. It was nice enough outside but apparently the waitress and her trainee didn't want to come out to check on us and food and drinks took a while to both order and get brought out. Also had to go in and request the check then go back in to get them to take the payment. Will check out cinco or the mission for Mexican food here out.

i had the shredded beef Tico Burrito which is Flour tortillas filled with shredded or ground beef , beans, rice & cheese, topped with rojo sauce, house slaw & sour. This is a nice size burrito and was not too spicy. We sat out side and had a pleasant meal. I'd go again

OK, so I always order the same thing, but I love their pork enchiladas. Beef or chicken can be dry, consider yourself advised. The mole and the verde sauces are great; the borracho beans always get a rave from me.

Worst food and service! I went with some friends looking for some good Mexican food but we were sadly mistaken.. The server was in a rush every time he came by and then when he brought my margarita it was leaking all over the place. Then he brought our chips and dip and spilled the salsa on the table cause he was "in a rush". Then it took a whole hour for us to get our food and the restaurant only had about five table occupied. I asked for tacos which they brought to me in the hard shells taco u buy at the store. The fish in my taco was the size of two quarters. The rice was tasteless and the beans I ordered were awful as well. They got one of my friends order wrong and another's habanero plate was nothing but tomato sauce. We waited 15 minutes just to get our refills on drinks and left completely disgusted with this restaurant.

I had high hopes for Papa Gallo, as it is owned by the folks from Arad Evans, and friends went several months after it opened and were pleased by the food. I'm no expert on Mexican food but have been to some excellent upscale Mexican restaurants in California and the Southwest. Have also had some outstanding food at taquerias and taco trucks in many other places. Our shared appetizer was empanadas with a cheese and spinach filling. Overly sweet yet bland, they also lacked the crispiness that one would get if they were fried. Our gut instinct said these were pre-cooked and either microwaved or heated fast in a convection oven. The dough was almost soggy.Strike 1. Salsa and chips was $4 (not complimentary and was "okay" but both the salsa and pico gallo were somewhat bland. I had the Chicken Mole entree. One decent sized hunk of institutional boneless chicken breast had been grilled to the point of being very dry and was served partially atop a very skimpy pool of mole sauce. Unlike other moles I've had, this one was light yellowish tan in color and was a trifle sweet and fruity but no hints of chocolate, cinnamon, or distinct spice. The black beans served on the side were nearly inedible and the "Mexican rice" was ho-hum. Strike 2. A small side of spinach sauteed with some red bell pepper and spices was the highlight. My buddy had what was described as carne asada. It came out simply as a decent if unspectacular steak with a bit of dry rub spice on it. He found it to be cooked properly and it had decent flavor but as steaks go was not a standout and again, just as my mole was not remotely close to the authentic moles I've had elsewhere, his entree was nothing like the carne asada either of us has had elsewhere. Typically we would expect to see a skirt or flank steak with lots of seasoning, grilled, cut in some diagonal strips and served with some sauteed onions, tortillas etc. on the side. This was just a steak on a plate with some sauteed veggies. Strike 3 Saving graces of the dinner: colorful and fun decor, family-friendly casual atmosphere, and outstanding service from our waitress Stephania. I wish give it two stars but it doesn't deserve that many. My gut instinct is that it felt like an Applebee's with a slightly creative Mexican theme. One beer, one appetizer, a shared order of chips and salsa and two entrees was about $59 with tax but not including tip. Not outrageous but far from moderate by Mexican food standards. Two thumbs down. By the way... if you think I have a grudge or am in the habit of slamming places that are trying hard to do well but miss a step here or there... think again. Read my other local reviews to confirm - I call it like I see it and I call this a place to skip over.

Super fun place with a beautiful interior, outside seating, and a fun bar atmosphere. The night I was there they had a band playing, and I would recommend spending a Friday night here if there's music. Drinks were a tad expensive, but there was, at one point, a two for five special on tecate. The bartenders were super friendly and efficient, and knew their tequilas. I shared a dish with my boyfriend - some sort of stuffed chicken breast and a side of julienned veggies. It was really tastey, and even after my man and I ate the hell out of it, there was still a bit left! i loved the chips, but I love me some salt, and these little buggers have a kind of special salt mixture all over them. I liked it; I could see how they would be a bit much for some. All around a cool hang. I mean, I was expecting much less from a Mexican joint in Syracuse, and was pleasantly surprised, being from California, via Texas with some of the best Mexican food around. Oh yeah, they only serve Mexican beer, and there's nothing on tap, so beer lovers, be forewarned.

Best Mexican food in the Syracuse area. Excellent choices, from a carne asada flatiron steak choice, to the fajitas and the tico or diablo burritos. But be warned, the diablo burrito is really spicy! As a side, the borracho beans are fantastic. Always a bit crowded, but now that they are open some days for lunch I recommend trying that time - less busy anyway. The margaritas are good. The decor is bright, fun, and has lots of character. And, you can buy some of the decorations if they really strike you as have to have items!

Good, fresh homemade food. The gazpacho soup was different but tasty. The fajitas had plenty of veggies and entree jerk chicken salad was good and nicely presented. Skip the queso dip - too bland. We've never had dessert here.

Went for an early dinner. It was OK. Wait staff was friendly & tried to be helpful. Food was OK, but not great Tex-Mex. But, I may be biased - lived in Houston & worked in Mexico for several years.

You walk in this place and the atmosphere and decor is nice so you have high hopes but then it just doesn't measure up. The service is average and the food is just OK. The prices are extremely high, as many have already mentioned. Come on, this is Syracuse, and they're charging NYC prices. And it's not really very authentic Mexican food, nothing really had a kick to it or even spice. I guess if you have unlimited funds, and don't mind mediocre food, it's fine. I might go back just for drinks or something since it's so pleasant inside.

I wanted to like this restaurant because of its convenient location and nice atmosphere and I gave it several chances, but the truth is that the food and service here is terrible. Regarding the service, the waitstaff isn't knowledgeable and the kitchen takes WAY too long to put out orders, even when it isn't busy. The food though has been the worst part of my experience at this restaurant. Everything we ate (with the exception of the poblano chowder, which is fantastic and arguably the only decent thing about this place) had a strange taste- and not in a good way. The refried beans were just disgusting, and I couldn't eat them after a couple bites. If Papa Gallo can't even make a Mexican staple like refried beans edible, there is understandably little hope for the rest of the menu. The rice, which our menu claims is vegetarian but according to the waitress is cooked with chicken broth (so NOT vegetarian, even though the waitress argued that cooking with meat broth is still vegetarian- again, not the most knowledgeable staff here) was bland and flavorless, something true Mexican rice should not be. I also tried the taco salad, but alas it was also bland and dry. To sum up, if you want a good, albeit over-priced, cup of soup and you don't care how quickly it comes out, this place would be fine. If you are looking for quality, flavorful Mexican cuisine and great service, go elsewhere. And finally, if you are a vegetarian, don't bother coming here because the only menu items marked as vegetarian either aren't because they are cooked in chicken broth or else taste terrible. We will not be returning.

probably the worst mexican food in the greater syracuse area. i hate to hand out 1-star ratings, but this place certainly earned it. while the location, interior, and service are all great, the food and prices are not anywhere in the same ballpark. drinks: pinarita margarita (coconut and pineapple margarita) was weak, flavorless, and had way too much salt on the rim. if i'm paying $8 for a mixed drink, it better damn well be mixed properly and taste awesome. this wasn't at all. salsa and chips: the 2 salsas were decent - one was smokey and spicy, the other was pico de gallo. both were about average. the chips were so salty. it wasn't worth the money and this really should be complimentary considering the applebee's-esque quality. guacamole: while the avocados tasted fresh, the guacamole didn't have anything else going for it. no lime juice, no cilantro, no onions. essentially just mashed avocados. and for $4 what was i actually paying for? enchiladas de mariscos: the entree wasn't worth $18. undercooked baby shrimp (similar to a chinese buffet), baby scallops, inside soggy corn tortillas covered in a bland, white wine-tomatillo-cream sauce. the mexican rice was pretty good and black beans topped with scallions and cheese were ok. but the entree overall was just very disappointing and very flavorless. basically, it boils down to food quality. and what's the point of having an overpriced menu if your food doesn't even come close? the prices should match the quality and it just doesn't here. with the enticing and creative menu and the good atmosphere, this place just made me feel like i was duped with food, flavor, and value. it was a big let-down. every other mexican place i've been to around cny was better, so i'd advise elsewhere if you can (the misison, alto cinco, juanita's, el canelo, boom boom mex mex, ponchito's, steve's, heck even moe's). "you've been had by papa gallo"

Had an awful experience tonight. My fiancee and I have not drank alcohol in over 18 years. We specifically asked for virgin pina coladas and strawberry daquaris. Both of us clearly stated that we didnt want alcohol. When i tasted my "virgin" strawberry darquari, it tasted funny and I told my fiancee, i tasted alcohol in it. We asked the waitress and she said "yes there is alcohol in those drinks". We were beyond baffled that after such a long time of making a conscious effort to not drink, a waitress who clearly was not doing her job gave us drinks that were not what we asked for and did not take full responsibility. We got up and left and i suggest that no one goes to that resteraunt, especially if you have any allergies or hell want to get your kid a virgin drink, because clearly their wait staff is horrible and does not listen to very important detail.

I did not have a great first impression. The floors were sticky in the bar area. The bartender was busy talking to coworkers when we walked in and sat at the bar. She then choose to serve a group of people that she knew, who came in after us, rather than serving my boyfriend and I first. We each ordered a House Margarita. My margarita was extremely watered down. We ordered an empanada appetizer and two entrees to go. The empanadas were extremely doughy and probably were put in the microwave. The rice in my burrito and the rice served on the side was crunchy, like it hadn't even been cooked. For the price we paid I am extremely dissatisfied. I have been to many Mexican restaurants in my life and was really looking forward to trying this place out. I can say that I will not be returning. Do not let the pretty artwork, decorations and photos of the food fool you...

Went here with my friend last night and it was a substantially decent experience. We each got a margarita - hers on the rocks, mine frozen. For $7, they are very generous with the tequila. I like these guys. For starters, we got chips, salsa, and guac. While most Mexican joints I've been do offer complimentary chips and salsa, this place did not, so we forked over five bucks for that. The bowls were small, but salsa was tasty and the pico was fresh. If it were more than the 2 of us, the portions would be laughable. However, what irked me was that they offered a "large" order of guac for $6, and we went for it because guacamole is the best thing ever. Much to our dismay, we were brought a really small bowl of the dip - it was probably the equivalent of what you'd get if you got two side orders of guac from Chipotle. For spending $11 on chips, salsa, and guac, I would have anticipated larger portions of each. Bummer. On the bright side, I got their verde burrito and it was SO GOOD. It should also be noted that it is a massive portion and I am currently eating the second half of it for lunch. Basically, this place is great except for the overcharged salsa/guacamole and the fact that the service was a little slow. I'd recommend it, though!

I ate here with some coworkers (party of 9-10). I'm from Texas, so I know not to expect great Mexican food up here, but dang. First strike, they charge for chips and salsa and definitely do not readily refill. Where I'm from, you.just.don' t.do .that. Second strike, they gave the new girl a large party and no support. I was a waitress for 9 years, I know the struggle. I wasn't upset with her, I was upset with management for allowing her to flounder and fail with hardly any help. She forgot nearly everything, wasn't trained in how to take multiple orders and had almost no help delivering items. There were only a few other tables in the restaurant...let's be honest they're were people available to help! 3rd strike, food was subpar. I had the elotes as an appetizer (this is traditionally Mexican street food sold sliced in a cup). They served it as a charred ear of corn topped with cotija cheese (I think) and a sour cream drizzle. I applaud them trying to fancy it up, but it just tasted dry, burnt, and lacking flavor. I shared chicken quesadillas with another girl...they were ok, tortilla was crisp and cheese melted...to be honest, I ordered that because it's hard to butcher a quesadilla. Let's just say, I won't be back and wouldn't recommend unless they made some seriousness changes.

I used to live up the street from this place and went a few times in 2010. First, don't expect real Mexican food (west coast, Texas, anything) from this place or really any other place in CNY. There's some tasty overpriced made-by-white-hippies Mexican food at places like Alto Cinco, but that's about it. Once you get over that fact, this place still disappoints in a big way. They used to (and perhaps still) run a 2-for-1 happy hour margarita coupon in the local shopper paper. First time I used it no problem (and the margarita was competent), second time they demanded I order food to get the deal ... so to continue enjoying myself without further harassment from the bar ape, I ordered an app. What came out was a completely unseasoned (though cooked fine, I guess) few pieces of chicken and vegetable. Not just bland, completely tasteless. I didn't want to get into anything further with them, so I ate my cruddy app and was on my way.

Great place for good quality food and drink. Mojitos are huge. Service is friendly and attentive. Food is consistently fresh and delish. Their salsa (one hot, one fresh and mild) are great. The best Mexican you can get in this area of the country. Try their catfish in burritos or tacos, my personal faves. Desserts are made in house and are generous and flavorful. Tonight I had the sopaipillas for the first time. It could have served four people easily. The fried dough was perfect, in a honey type syrup, with vanilla ice cream and fruit. OMG, absolutely over the top. Don't forget to try the Margaritas, quite a selection!

with their new management they've got much better. The foods are good and tasty. They used to be the slowest ever. But they are like a normal cook to post restaurant now. It's the best mexican that you can get in syracuse area.

So... I'll start off by saying I'm from the west coast where Mexican food is a staple and plentiful. Next, the service is outstanding here. Also the patio is nice to chill out on. The food. If you want good Mexican Never ever eat here. My tacos, they used store bought hard shell tacos, the worst part is they were stale. I thought well the meat will make up for it... Wrong I was. The shredded beef was soaked in oil I couldn't taste the beef. The chicken was pretty bland. The beans.... Gross and tasted they were microwaved out of the can. I wanted to give this place a 1, but because of the outstanding servers and decor going to give it a two. Oh did I mention it's pricey!!!!

I had a great dinner at Papa Gallos. We sat at the bar my hubby got the taco salad and was raving as he was eating. Me not being a big fan of beans I was concerned having Mexican, I chose a nice chicken sandwich that was amazing. We washed it down with some ice cold Coronas what's greater than that? The service was great, the food was great we will frequent often.

The food was so delicious! Being a Pacific Northwesterner, I'm a little snobbish about Mexican food, and this food was not a disappointment! I had enchiladas and they were definitely beyond my expectations. The waitress was also very friendly and knowledgable about the menu. We enjoyed chatting with her and learning about the restaurant and the favorite dishes she serves a lot of. Also, SANGRIA SLUSHIE. I'd recommend to anyone and can't wait to return

One of my favorite restaurants in town when it comes to a straightforward and consistent Mexican meal. Good happy hour specials and plenty of variety to keep you coming back. Try the Cowboy burrito.

I tried this place on Cinco de Mayo which was a busy night but we had reservations and were seated right away. It is a great place for groups because there is a lot of seating. They also have a private room in the back suitable for about 10 people. To start we got the chips and guacamole. The chips were warm and the two salsas were tasty. The guacamole was decent, it could have used more cilantro. There are few vegetarian items. I got the veggie burrito which was very bland. It was mostly sautéed vegetables with no seasoning. It had white rice and a little bit of cheese, it was served with a choice off four sauces on top. The steak in the burrito my friend tried was a little overcooked. My other friend enjoyed I her burrito. I would go again.

Ordered 2 drinks watched bartender talk to staff with only 2 people at bar. Got the drinks 20 minutes later. No complimentary chips. Fajitas were steam table soggy pep0 and onions with bits of dry beef thrown in. Ordered a second drink to try to help chew the meat and watched bartender do nothing for the next ten minutes before my drink found its way to the table. Needed flash light to read menus due to bad lighting. Lots of wait staff and ours was pleasant but couldn't make up for bad food and bartender. How do that post less than 1 star?

The food here can be a little hit or miss. When they are on the ball, it is out and out wonderful, but on a bad day some of the dishes can be salted to death. Now that's good for the roads of Syracuse for half the year, and it's good for the edges of the margarita...but it's not good for food. ---- My family and I keep on coming back because it's awesome more often than not. Cute little kids menu, good drink menu, and good service.

We were here on a Friday night two weeks ago. Excellent plates, food all the way around (there was four adults, 2kids). Good service and atmosphere overall, we'll be back! The one negative, noticeable to me at least as the hostess was a bit clueless as well as other staff / help were standing around, almost chit-chatting and not doing anything, wasn't appropriate in my opinion.

I took pictures however this place is not even worth up loading. First off what restart on this planet serves a hot appetizer before the COLD soup. Well this place does. I ordered the Gazpacho and the Jerk Shrimp. The shrimp were tasteless a little salt and pepper goes a long way, and whatever kind of sauce you're pushing with this, just stop. Now onto the Gazpacho, considering I lived in Southern part of Spain for 2 years I'm pretty sure I know what proper Gazpacho is supposed to look and taste like. What you are serving is not it. Dicing up some cucumber and onions and adding it to tomato juice is not cutting it. What happened to some Creme Fraise or even some sour cream, I'm not even going to bing up that there was no Sherry, whoops I just did! Never again !!

I dont think their mediocre Mexican food is their fault. Yankees just apparently are born without taste buds. Salsas are the best thing they have going- pretty good. Their queso resembles broccoli cheese soup though. I am fairly certain the "spicy ketchup" is Cisco BBQ sauce. Their entire menu is a good solid meh. I will end on a positive note. Their skinny gallo is one of the better margaritas I have found in this deserted wasteland of no real Mexican food. You can do worse in the Syracuse area...

Papa Gallo provides a laid back atmosphere with a unique menu. My mom would tell you it's hard to find a decent margarita around here, but Papa Gallo knows all about Margarita's. They homemake their margarita mix and add three shots of whatever kind of tequila you want. Awesome portions and something for everyone. They have vegan and vegetarian options. Even something for those who are gluten-free. Everything has a Mexican twist to it. I tried the Taco Salad. I really enjoyed the warm crisp tortilla bowl. They packed it with deliciousness such as homemade pico de gallo, guacamole, beans, and fresh romaine. They home make their churros as well and offer them with a chocolate dipping sauce which I would certainly recommend! -amazing patio for outdoor seating!

I'm very picky toward Mexican food, being a well-traveled foodie, and while not AUTHENTIC Mexican (let's face it, we are in Upstate NY), this is my favorite Mexican/Tex-Mex restaurant in Syracuse. Extremely delicious and gracious servings. The chips and salsa/queso/guacamole are addicting, and the margaritas, made with three shots of tequila, are not only delicious, but give you your money's worth. I've had the Diablo Burrito and the Al Pastor Tacos, along with a few specials, and they were all very good. I go back all the time with friends! Great service too, though it's nicer outdoors than inside, which smells a tad dank and old in there.
