I tried this place twice and it got worse the second time. The food is made with no real care for quality, and there is a bad odor in the place. They have a few Greek specialties which are probably the best things on the menu, but not worth going here for.

Felt this was a standard diner, nothing special. Got in, ordered some eggs, got the eggs, ate them. Bam! I thought it was pretty cheap. Service was fine, the place is exactly what you'd imagine a diner should look like.

The Acrop doesn't have the best food, but it is in no way the worst diner I have ever been to. The food is edible enough, especially if you manage to come before 4am after a Saturday night of partying at Vassar. But if that's the only time you're coming, well... they are surprisingly tolerant of drunk Vassar kids and for that they really deserve all the stars in the world. I loved their matzoh ball soup and mashed potatoes with gravy and all of the breakfast meals I had were fine enough. The pasta dinner specials were brilliantly good in that between the salad bar, free bread, main course, and dessert, there was more than enough food to pack up and eat for two days back in the dorms, and for less than 15 bucks. Come late night, disco fries were covered in just the right amount of gravy and went well with the milkshakes... oh and as far as those milkshakes went, we were always given a smaller cup with the "leftovers" that didn't fit in the already giant milkshake glass. In general, you get what you pay for at the Acrop. You're obviously not going to get a gourmet meal, but what you do get will usually be worth the long-ish walk from campus (assuming you're coming from Vassar).

We eat at the Acropolis and have always had a good experience, It's a diner, Good, reasonably priced food, What I expect ! And if we didn't get what we expected would not go back, But also would not go out of my way to harm their reputation. The best way I can describe this diner, compared to other area diners, is with one word - average. I used to frequent the Acropolis diner years ago when I dated someone different than the current love of my life and since we were younguns then, we thought eating out at the same diner 3-5 times a week was a good idea for some reason. Regardless, I got to taste a lot of their menu and got a well rounded opinion of what they offered. It was never anything spectacular, but it also was never anything offensive. The service was usually pretty good and the pricing of things was very reasonable. There are better diners in the area so honestly, go towards the river and head over to the Palace diner instead of this place if you have the choice. BUT..if you don't have a choice, don't worry. It's still going to give you a good hearty meal, just not something worth remembering.

I keep ending up here, and I really don't know why. The food here is... pretty terrible. I suppose the food is standard fare for diners, but that doesn't excuse the rather poor quality. I mean, it's edible, but I'm pretty sure I can make food better than this for substantially cheaper. Lucky for them, it's the only 24 hour restaurant (a term I use loosely) in the area, and thus the only location to satisfy drunk cravings at early hours. Waitstaff is decent, especially given the hour. Layout is also utterly standard and nothing to write home about. Not a fan.

I dont comre to this diner as much as others but for one of my first times here it wasnt so bad. I ordered two eggs over easy and it came with so hash browns. Visually it didnt look appetizing, however the taste was on point. Maybe the hash needed a little more seasoning but not too bad. The Acropolis Diner is slightly newer than the real Acropolis. Falls perfectly within the definition of "NY Diner", breakfast all day, Greek-inspired menu, career waitresses and a dessert carousel. Bit of everything is available on the extensive menu, may burn through a cup or two of coffee making a choice.

Ah, the Acropolis. Spent many week/weekend nights here after realizing that there really isn't that much to do in Poughkeepsie when you are still in High School. It's a diner, there is diner food, no big surprises here. The staff are ok: attentive but not overly friendly. Appears that maybe the food quality has gone down since my last visit, but in the mid-2000s I remember it being pretty decent. It also attracted a large variety of customers - sometimes makes for good people watching! Not something I'd particularly go out of my way for - or recommend to visitors - but it is a typical diner with a typical dining experience.

Food is typical diner food-- good and easy. It's more the service that bothers me. About once a month or so, I order a cheeseburger to go. Every time I call, the owner/manager(?) answers and when I say I want to place a take out order, he puts me on hold for someone else to help me. Now, for efficiency's sake, wouldn't you have someone answering the phone that can actually take an order?? I order my burger a special way (nothing outrageous) every time, usually a side of mayo and potato salad instead of coleslaw. It is NEVER right. It's like there's no point in even trying to ask on the phone because I'll have to ask again when I get there. The other thing is they always say 10 minutes, I'll go 15 minutes later to give them a few extra minutes and I'll still have to wait. If it's going to take 20, just tell me 20!

First things first, what a cheesecake?!?? Sooo good, creamy very delicious. I had the plain, and it's obviously not from frozen. After asking, they told me that their desserts are made in house, and by the taste I could believe it. I had a cheddar baked potato and chili. The chili is for the spicy lovers, and is not a soup. My son had the kids spaghetti and meatballs and likes it. My husband had some kinda steak and ate everything. The service was friendly and on too of things. I like the 50s vibe. Also came in with my folks an they are vegans and they enjoyed their salad :)

I was going to give this place five stars. But then I dined here on a Saturday afternoon and sober and realized the food quality I had pictured in my mind was pure fiction. Its average diner food. Nothing special. The menu is like the encyclopedia of food, you can literally order anything. The only problem is it might take a few hours for someone of average IQ to actually go through the entire menu, so its best to have some idea of what you would like to eat going into the place. Its open 24/7 so its a great fall-back place for a midnight snack. Three stars, average.

Was just there for breakfast...all I can say is I will never be back just because of the service. Our server was Sarah and b**ch is the nicest thing I can say about her attitude. My guests have had her before and say this is her normal attitude. God forbid you ask for anything extra and the attitude doubled. We were going to complain to the cashier when we were met with the same short b**tchy attitude and realized this must be an acceptable and normal by management. Food was pretty good and portions decent but service will keep me from eating there ever again... SERVICE SUCKS.

The best bets are the sandwiches, pastas and the Greek platter (moussaka, pastitsio, spanakopita and a huge Greek salad with stuffed grapeleaves). blargh. Overpriced for the fair-to-middling food, I can't complain much about the decor because, well, it's a 24-hour diner in the middle of Poughkeepsie, what do you want? Excellent greek salad (though shockingly overpriced if you want to add a dry chicken breast to the salad) and edible burgers, edible fries, TERRIBLE onion rings, greasy meat loaf, a suspicious looking salad bar and yucky gyros. The best thing I can say is that I'm always so happy when I order and they cheerfully claim "five minute!" or "ten minute!". It's always longer than that but I get my hopes up every time.

I lived in Poughkeepsie for almost 10 years and, as my memories of the place fade, one thing will forever be seared into my brain... The Acropolis has the worst food ever. EVER. I'm not kidding. Even when I was falling down drunk and about to gnaw off my foot for nourishment and the Acropolis was only two blocks away, I refused to go. The food falls into two catagories: soggy or pale. Unfortunately, a lot of it is both.

This is the perfect neighborhood diner. You get more than what you pay for here. Realize that many other raters may be college students who have high expectations during early hours of the morning. For normal meals during normal hours, this diner is good overall.

There are two reasons that the Acrop stays in business. They are (1) that it is that is within walking distance of Vassar College and (2) it is open 24/7. This means that drunken students who need something to eat at 4:00 on Saturday morning have this as a backup option. As a student, I have eaten here several times. Only one of those times has been before midnight. The best thing about the food is that it is salty enough to satisfy that craving. Just go to the Palace or the Arlington Diner. The prices there are the same.

The Acrop is not fantastic. The Acrop has so-so service. It's not necessarily somewhere you'd take you're parents on parents weekend. However the Acrop is a few blocks from school. It certainly wasn't cafeteria food, and was a nice break from campus. It at least made you feel like you were somewhere else, even if that mean feeling like you were in Jersey. It's standard diner fare and it gets two stars only because service standards change depending on the time of day, and because of the limited options.

You've spent the night laughing your ass off at jokes that in retrospect weren't all that hilarious (at least those that you can remember and let's face it, you murdered so many brain cells Charlie Sheen would be impressed). You all stagger home but halfway there, you realize that your hungry. Yes, but where to go? Everything (except Napoli's) in the area seems to close at the ungodly hour of 9PM (at least when i was there) and it's now 4AM. Someone mentions the Acrop and you all agree that they're a damn Rhodes scholar. You manage to cross Main St. without getting killed and you take a table. You tell more jokes, recount your evening's escapades, or watch repeats of Sportscenter on ESPN on the television. You get your food and it tastes so damn good. The next time you're here, you tell each other, you'll be free of the grip of mind altering substances. You finished your food and sated, make your way home. The sky is so dark but when you get to your room, you look east and you see the first rays of the rising sun. You sigh, crash into bed and dream of good days and pleasant nights that seem to be on the horizon. When you do go to the Acrop sober, you realize the food isn't that great. You say you'll never return but deep down you know you will return when you're trashed.

You've spent the night laughing your ass off at jokes that in retrospect weren't all that hilarious (at least those that you can remember and let's face it, you murdered so many brain cells Charlie Sheen would be impressed). You all stagger home but halfway there, you realize that your hungry. Yes, but where to go? Everything (except Napoli's) in the area seems to close at the ungodly hour of 9PM (at least when i was there) and it's now 4AM. Someone mentions the Acrop and you all agree that they're a damn Rhodes scholar. You manage to cross Main St. without getting killed and you take a table. Everything seems so appealing so you pick something like a hamburger and wait for your order. You tell more jokes, recount your evening's escapades, or watch repeats of Sportscenter on ESPN on the television. You get your food and it tastes so damn good. The next time you're here, you tell each other, you'll be free of the grip of mind altering substances. You finished your food and sated, make your way home. The sky is so dark but when you get to your room, you look east and you see the first rays of the rising sun. You sigh, crash into bed and dream of good days and pleasant nights that seem to be on the horizon. When you do go to the Acrop sober, you realize the food isn't that great. You say you'll never return but deep down you know you will return when you're trashed.
