Great place for burgers or a drink. Outdoor tables near the marina with Miss Liberty in the distance are near perfect on a warn summer evening. Home grown crispy pigeon on a stick not recommended. Although the World Financial Center is located on the Hudson, this restaurant does not face the river. It faces the marina. The words "on the Hudson" are no where to be found on any of the signs, on the menus, or any other printed materials. The correct name is "P.J. Clarke's". This can be easily verified by checking their official web site at pjclarkes.com .

Came here on a Sunday afternoon when it was hot hot hot! We got seated indoors although they have plenty of outdoor seating available. The service was TOP NOTCH, although slightly excessive at times when the server kept coming back to us three times during the course of 20 minutes to ask us how it was. However, when we asked for honey mustard sauce, she was very quick to bring it out! While the service was great, the food was not as exciting and very overpriced for what we got. I got the entree kale avocado salad which was $15.20. I was told the salad would have all these fillings and vegetables that come with it. Unfortunately, there were only dicey pieces of avocado, feta cheese, and walnuts which meant I paid nearly $20 for a plate of kale and was left hungry after my meal. My friend got the fish tacos (2 tacos) with yucca fries. The fish was very dry - the 6 pieces of yucca fries were the best part of her meal and for $20.54, not worth the food. Overall, great location and great server but spend your money for food elsewhere!

Chicken Caesar salad was ok...upside is they give you A LOT of chicken. My coworker got a burger he said was good...but to get fries with that is an extra $7.00. Crazy! They do carry Kensington ketchup which is appreciated. Nice views on the waterfront but just not worth the price. Sandwiches are $20, sides are $7-9. Doesn't taste good enough to warrant those prices. Service was great though. Waiters are very attentive and food comes out quickly.

The reviews for this restaurant are pretty atrocious, and I don't disagree with them. But, I didn't expect much when I came here. I really only came here to sit outside with great views with my dog. This place is comparable to like a Friday's. Hot wings: Really good, actually. The wings were crispy and covered in Frank's Red Hot which I really like. Creamed Spinach: Tastes like they took it out of the freezer and microwaved it (could be possible). Doesn't taste horrible, but definitely not good. Crab Croquettes: They were SOOO SMALL with like a shred of crab in each little tiny ball. Tasted good, but not worth $17. Don't recommend. Home Fries: WOW they literally had no taste and were soggy. Only worth it to come here if you want to sit outside and enjoy the view.

The view here gets the two stars the remainder one star is for everything else. The drinks and is expensive for what it is. They used to have an amazing happy hour...$4 beers till closing. The minute it got nice out they cancelled the happy hour. What the @$!# is that? We got there for happy hour the other week and their own staff didn't know the happy hour ended. To say the least, I was super disappointed especially because the week before I had so much fun at happy hour. The week before my dissapointment, we tried the fried calamari ($14) and the kale salad ($10ish). Both were pretty good and we enjoyed them but the $4 beers were the highlight. The view here is really something to brag about I can see why they are always packed. I would just sit outside and enjoy the view but probably not come back for the food or the drinks because it is way too expensive.

On some day in spring this year, we wanted to check the shore around Brookfield, which was very nice. Our initial plan was to check out the food course. What we didn't know was that they were close around 6-7pm when we were trying to get our food. We so ended up going to this place. To me I wanted to try PJ clarke at one point because they were always named as one of the best burgers in nyc. If you go in, it looks like a madman like ambience. Servers dress like that too. Our server was very attentive. We ordered tote for appetizer. Even though the server advertised it, the tote was just ok. Burgers we got were good, but i really didn't think the burger was nowhere close to one of the best burgers in the city.

I don't know why this location gets a bad rap. The main complaint seems to be about service, but our waitress Melissa was very attentive, and on top of the game when my burger game out without bacon. She literally hopped over from two tables over and said, "I see they forgot your bacon, I'll be right back." within 5 minutes, I had my bacon, and the place was slammed. So the service wasn't bad, neither was the food. I ordered the Burger au Poivre, which I have to say was pretty damn good. The rest of the menu is expensive, but if you want to sit outside on the water with wait service, this is a decent spot to go. I give it a 4/5 because of the location, waterfront view, our experience with service, and the burgers are pretty good. If this place were in another location, it'd probably get a 3/5 and a future pass, because there's better food to be had for the price, but with the view and location, I can't complain too much.

I was here for happy hour with a bunch of co-workers that were celebrating a farewell for a few people. I didn't have a chance to eat any of the food but the drinks were fine. I had maybe a few sweet potato fries but that was about it. The restaurant has fantastic views of the Hudson and that's what most people come here for. The outdoor seating is pretty awesome and during the summer it's very nice out. I think I speak for most people that this is more of an after work spot and no person in the right mind would come here any other time. The menu items are quite pricey unless you really have your heart set on PJ Clarke's, go somewhere else to eat.

The staff was amazing but really I'm not there to make friends . I was hungry after a long day in the city with my kids . I ordered the special which was a salmon burger . I couldn't taste the salmon at all and it was charred . Horrible .appetizers were great , and location amazing . Don't order the salmon burger , try something else

I don't know what's happening with these other reviews, but we just had awesome bloodies, great burgers and terrific service here. It's a burger place. It's not a super food snob burger (which I love at times as well) it's just a yummy simple burger. And yes, it's not cheap but it's not like you're sitting at counter with grease wafting in your face...it's on the water with gorgeous views. I don't know Yelp. You're kind worrying me with reviews lately. Too many haters and kool aide sippers, liking the joints with celebrity and long waits and hating on the simple, yummy spots. I'm perplexed. But I'm also full and a lil buzzed! Yay PJ Clarkes.

Didn't know that this place is a big higher version of Fridays otherwise never would had stop here. Waited for an hour to get a glass of water, waiter was very aggressive. And after a long waiting of 2 hours they served cold salmon and sweet potato which I had to return . I don't really recommend this place

Maybe in the summer when the patio is open it's cool, but when it's cold out, this place reminds me of a sad TGIFriday's that is about to go under. Coming here around 6:00 pm on a Monday, it was empty. Our server was friendly and the bathrooms were clean, but those were the highlights. The tater tots were overpriced at $9 and just weren't that good. The texture was too smooth, almost like fried balls of mashed potatoes. My sliders were a joke at $18. Look at the picture and tell me if you've ever seen anything more pathetic! Meat and bun on a plate. No garnish of any type. I've seen better presentation at a diner. PJ Clarke's should check out the sliders at Spitzers Corner* to see how it's done (see link below to my photo). The grilled chicken salad was well received and highly praised. Although the staff was friendly, the whole experience lacked flair and I can't think of any reason why I would return here. ________________________ Notice the tomato, lettuce and pickle tinyurl.com/na9sb92

I came here with my team to celebrate the "newbs status" that we all have! Surprisingly, this place is right next to my building which makes it very convenient because I can leave my purse upstairs. For those of us who have never been there before let me provide some direction: So for outdoor there 3 sections: -one is standing and open, you buy a drink from bar and stand outside -one is sit and drink with waiter -one is sit and drink and eat with waiter The open area is closest to the winter garden and the other 2 next to it but roped off. So if you go down early, get a drink from bar, there is an area you can stand/sit at w/o need for a waiter. The group decided to stand. We ordered 2 dozen ostyers to share, both from East and West coasts. Actually these were not bad at all. The rest of the menu totally suxed. The Service: The Service here is BADDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD........... Best to go and get your own drink from the bar. If you want food you better trip the server. I think she's more concerned with picking up a potential GoldmanSachs hubby than doing her job. This place must make "bank" because the only peopl I saw consistently breaking glasses were the waitstaff. The View is amazing. Right in front of the Battery Park Marina on a cool and breezy summer night with some good colleagues. What could be better? It doesn't hurt that you are literally 10 feet from Russian billionaires watching The Jersey Shore on their massive yatchs in the Marina.

My fiancé and I, have been coming to this location for three years now, and it has been a great experience. Not only is the food so delicious, but the service is top notch! We usually have their burger, the 100% angus beef. You can pick your toppings, and me tell you they don't hold back!! Zach is an outstanding manager who always makes us feel right at home. We couldn't be happier with PJC on the Hudson!

so this place is amazing if you are looking for a restaurant overlooking the water. the food is good, but nothing incredible. we started with the parmesan tater tots which were actually amazing. they were crispy and the parmesan added a salty taste and it was perfect with the spicy ketchup it came with. As the main, my boyfriend and I split the Cadillac (burger with bacon and cheese) and the mushroom cheddar burger (cheese, sauteed onions, grilled mushrooms). i thought they were both good but nothing i would travel far and wide for. i was surprised the burgers didn't come with fries. We also got a side of onion strings - they were actually really tasty. they are thin, fried onions and they are fun to eat as a side.

Reasons that you should come to PJ Clarke's include the proximity to the World Trade Center monument, proximity to the Battery Park Marina, proximity to the world headquarters of American Express and the view over the Hudson River. None of these include the food and the drink, which is average and designed not to offend. The closet thing I found to a point of view on the menu on two recent visits were the presence of peas in the macaroni and cheese. I can't say that added much, except for placing the thought in my head the executive chef had once changed planes in Paris and/or saw a program on French cooking. The long corkscrew pieces of pasta were in a dish that was much more cheese sauce than baked macaroni and cheese, but it proved to be a hearty and filling accompaniment to several unimaginative beers. My first visit was in the cavernous and too dark (especially considering the waterside location) dining room, while the second was in one of several holding pens that pass as an outdoor space. It does appear to passersby that this is some of zoo/anthropological exhibition of the New York financier in his natural habitat. The location means that people will always gather here - is it too much to ask for a somewhat creative or at least better executed take on American bar food? Otherwise more and more people might be taking their outings to the superior options now available at the Hudson Eats food court, even if there's no outdoor area.

As all the construction is going on in the World Financial Center's "Brookfield Place", PJ Clarke's is the only business in the area still open in this area. Not only that, its the only business with outdoor seating open here, which is a major win for them. In essence, sometimes you have no choice but to come here, which is not a bad thing, but it was definitely nice when there were more options and this place wasn't always packed outdoors on nice days. As a happy hour place, this PJ Clarke's is good, but does not stand out particularly (except for the outdoor area). They have a full bar that has the basics, but isn't particularly extensive in terms of options. The food here is also decent for a bar/restaurant spot. Pretty typical, burgers, sliders, nachos, tater tots, etc. It's kinda like going to Applebee's, but better.

You can't really ask for more from a restaurant. The burgers are exceptional here. The location is unbeatable. And as an added bonus the servers are great. Pj Clarkes has itself a regular.

    (5)
  • Howard B.

I have been here a few times after work. It's ok and in a nice spot but very busy being the only functional bar in the World Trade Center complex. They used to have a terrace bar that took the heat off the bar inside but I don't see that any more. Hence the bar area gets very crowded and it can take a while to get a drink. They have a nice outdoor area by the marina but again very crowded with a large group and a large area is cordoned off for people eating. Also, the surrounding area currently resembles a construction site. Not having eaten here for a very long time, it would be unfair to review on food, but from memory the selection and service here is pretty good.

We came to PJ Clarkes with my family and had a really bad experience with the food. Some family members ordered burguers which were Ok. My bf ordered fish and chips which was rather tasteless and it had more batter than fish. We ordered a side salad and the dressing was like eating raw anchovies. I ordered the Mahi Mahi tacos and they were absolutely tasteless and flavorless. In essence, we might come back for the views but we will only order Burguers and nothing else.

I would say it is just ok. Nothing blew me away except for the bill. bowl of soup and 3 bite sized tacos was over 30 bucks. The service was terrible. When you are a single at a table the servers in NY treat you like crap. they figure they won't get much of a tip so who cares. Just a trend for place here.

    (3)
  • John W.

They had great and friendly service. They also had a great mussels dish in a white wine sauce, as well as cheesecake to die for. With a view over the water with the Statue of Liberty, this is my new favorite restaurant in the city, along with Numero 28 Pizzeria if feeling Italian. They also have half off tap beers while I'm here, which is a great deal for NYC.

Sitting outside was absolutely gorgeous - the weather was lovely, there was shade from trees, it was terrific. Everything else was mediocre. SO overpriced!!! I'm annoyed we spent almost $70 for lunch which was so not good. I wish I'd have packed sandwiches and sat a few feet away and had lunch in the park. My husband got a $20ish burger which was okay - nothing special. I got a $20ish veggie burger which tasted like crap ("it's rice and beans and some chopped up veggies" said our server) and the small piece of cheddar on top cost $1.50. My son's kid's chicken fingers were under $10 and had zero flavor - thank God for ketchup, honey mustard, and salt. All of our plates came with fries and we left the majority on our plate, and we are not a family that doesn't eat fries. They were without any flavor. Oddly all of this crap food came out within about five minutes, so maybe they just needed more time to make it? Ugh. What pisses me off the most, though, is this "Thea's English Iced Tea" on the menu. Four bucks. Advertised as "bespoke blends, sweet by nature." Waitress comes out with a glass bottled drink that's bespoke my ass. I love iced tea. I own an iced tea brewer at home. I literally have two pitchers of iced tea in my fridge (one decaf, one regular) at all times. But this was absolutely nothing special and, this "English" tea is based in Millbrook, New York according to the bottle. So, screw you P.J. Clarke's, I will NEVER return.

  • Jen K.

I liked this place for the cheap happy hour oysters and the view. The fries were ok, too. As I never made it downtown that often, I would end up here a lot when showing out of towners the city. The other reviews are right about it not being great, but I thought it was passable. Ok. Nothing horrifying, but nothing great either.

    (3)
  • Ro N.

I got some drink with Passionfruit puree and G ordered some calamari and had an ice tea. The drink was decent, but the calamari was the worst calamari I had ever tasted. It had no taste and the batter was beyond gross. It was hard to find this place with all the construction going on here. I hate this place - I walked and walked and seriously, took me forever and google advised to stay on my right when it wasn't even on my right side or on that street.

The view of Lady Liberty makes for an extra star else this would be a one-star box of poor delights. Service is abysmal. I arrived at exactly 11:30am (opening time) and stood waiting for the waiters to finish their conversations, back turned to me. Sat. Ordered quickly. (I'm classed as easy but most ... and this isn't always a compliment I'm sure). Food came insanely quick. Ok. Cool. Except the IL I94 Service Greasy truck stop some 30 miles between Chicago and Milwaukee could make a better burger. A) too small B) dry and C) every possible 'meh!' reaction doesn't sum up the boredom of the food, the server, the follow-through ... the whole schiznit. Won't come back unless as an old old geezer in a battery powered trike that is running out of charge and I need a place to park and empty my bag.

I came here a couple of times for company happy hours and lunch since I used to work in the tower. PJ Clarke's is the only place left after construction started for Brookfield Place. I think it's pretty good for happy hour since you can either reserve the outdoor area for sunny days or the back bar so it can be a little more private. The service was great; the staff is very accommodating. In terms of food choice it's your typical bad food, sliders, fries, buffalo wings etc. For the type of food they're serving it's quite expensive and it's not the best food. It is a nice place to go if you're in the area since it's in a good location. It's right by the water so you can take a walk after dining and there's a Tv in the bar so you can watch the game.

    (3)
  • Warren C.

It's a popular happy hour spot in the Financial District. If I choose to catch up with friends downtown, PJ Clarke's is one of the bar/restaurants on the rotating list. I appreciate the fact they serve dinner- I like their Montauk Fish Tacos, but I've had better elsewhere. I haven't had the chance to come here during the summer, but I think their patio by the North Cove yacht marina would be a nice spot for a cold beer.

  • Mick B.

Got food poisoning here, but the sliders are so good it's almost worth it (but not when you get crippling pain on a 6-hour car ride to Ithaca).

    (3)
  • Will B.

First off, there is construction going on so it completely ruins the what would be fantastic view if dining outside (which we did). The scaffold can take away from a picturesque day like no other. That said, the burger is quality (I've had better, but hey, it's a burger and it tastes good). The crab was also good and the fries were very good I must say. It's obviously costly for the area it's in, but that comes with the territory. Overall, it just feels like a fancy chain restaurant. It's good if you have nothing better to get. And, in that area, there isn't much (especially on the weekends).

  • Mitchell M.

This spot has remnants of Wall Street D-bagism, similar to the way the World Financial Center does. You will get your suits, analyst training classes fresh out of college, and interns. That doesn't ruin this place for me though, and I don't think it should for anyone. It is a big enough space to fit all kinds comfortably. The bar area is extremely long. I think the back bar and restrooms are actually in New Jersey. There is also a pretty large dining area. The service here is great. I really did not expect that. The bartenders are personable and very attentive. You will rarely have an empty glass. I also liked that all the waitstaff very naturally said hello to you and were polite just you walked by. Very refreshing. The prices are what they are. There is no getting around that here. Happy Hour is only happy because you are happy to be out of work and drinking. They offer no specials...if they do it's kept under wraps. The burgers are really good, and I wouldn't eat anything else here. The Cadillac with cheddar medium rare will treat you well...and it should for the $13.55 price tag. They really tout the tater tots as being "sooo good." They were OK. Nothing to go raving about. I think I would have been happier with them if they weren't so big. I was hoping for your run of the mill tater tot. These were a little bigger than a golf ball, and the dipping sauce was "Meh." This place also boasts a great outdoor area. I am not sure how the service works out there though. I think the tables were waited on as I didn't see a lot of back and forth of patrons, but not 100% sure. The views from the outdoor area are amazing on nice night. They also seem to have a party space in the back if you wish to throw a little shindig here.

First of all - the manager there says: he never ever uses hs name for employment - he goes by J.D.; so when their server drops multiple glasses of red wines and beers onto me, he gave me a generic number and said we would cover for dry cleaning, even though my brand new suit was all stained - and we all know how red wine can stain badly! I requested him to take care of the expenses that night, but Mr. "I have no name" Manager would not yield. Go figure. Really P.J.Clarke's????!!!!

  • Sara W.

Came here for a happy hour after work. Except...they don't have drink specials, ever. We decided to come here since the weather was nice (first time all season!) and the one redeeming quality of this place is the outdoor seating. I had the perfect view of the statue of liberty and was getting a good dose of sunlight. Drinks are expensive ($14 for a much to be desired martini) and the food was mediocre bar food at best (we only had appetizers but usually those are the easier win).

Weren't here after visiting the memorial. Service was very slow. Had to ask twice for our order to be taken. I ordered the "Cadillac" burger and to me I believed it was going to be something big and good. It came out and basically it was a slider. It was tiny! Cocktails were good. That was about it. Would not go back.

Nothing special, really nice waitress... We stopped here on a very hot day. The restaurant had a NYC "B" rating but we came in anyway. We were hot and tired and very thirsty. Food wasn't bad but I worried about the B rating. The waitress was friendly and kept refilling our glasses. It reminded me of many chain restaurants with the menu and presentation. Hope that helps.

1 star for the food, 1 star for the view. The food was okay, but extremely expensive for the type of food and portion size. Paid $10 for a tiny cup of chili. The chili was made from sirloin steak instead of ground beef, but still it's just chili. Definitely not worth $10. I also ordered the brussel sprouts. Again, they tasted pretty good, but paid $8 for a tiny bowl. Service was also kind of slow. Waitress took a while getting our orders in and getting our checks. You're definitely paying for the view, not the food.

I went for lunch with my colleagues today and was disappointed. We were a group of ten, and I would think that being right on wfc, they'd be used to serving groups. Our orders took forever to arrive and it wasn't even packed. The apps came out maybe half an hour after placing and then another 30 minutes for our burgers. I asked for a coke and they got me a fork. I asked for a mushroom burger and got a cheeseburger. The waiter eventually bought over a side of mushrooms for me to add on (seriously?) Then they circled the table repeatedly with a side of mustard to our table asking who asked for it when no one did. My "mushroom" burger was dry and average at best. Sweet potato fries that came with tasted like literally nothing. I literally can count the number of times in my life when I haven't finished an order of sweet potato fries and I didn't even eat half here. The best part of the meal was my dessert which we waited another 20 minutes on. It was a brownie sundae and who can mess that up? Definitely not worth the prices here.

Perfect for a cold one after work in the summer. Right on the marina, tons of outdoor seating. Pretty good burgers too. During winter months, forced inside, the place loses much of its appeal - but is still an ok option.

    (3)
  • Eric J.

Good outdoor seating, mediocre food, decent drinks. Very bad service and pricing. Got the burger, here which doesn't come with fries. Come on, son. To add insult to injury, the side order of fries it came with was under cooked and soggy. Beer prices are on the higher side. 7 bucks for Coors Light? Meh. Might as well get some of the specialty cocktails, which aren't that bad. That being said, when I don't have to worry about paying or there's a company sponsored happy hour, it's not so bad. Having the closed off outdoor space is pretty clutch. But then again, that can be said with just about any bar. Advice: Come here if it's convenient and you can expense it.

If you like mediocre food, poor wait service, and uninventive American style, look no further. Given the prime location, I guess they can get away with it but added all up PJ's isn't worth your time. After going to numerous happy hours here, and being pleased with the drinks offered, I took the plunge on going to lunch with some friends. What resulted was a slow and painful meal that left a sizeable dent in my wallet and emptiness still in my stomach. The hamburger is fine, it won't blow you away. What will blow you away is that fries, which almost unilaterally are a standard hamburger meal inclusion, don't come with it. Paying an extra sum for a small plate of undercooked fries put the whole table in a sour mood. Don't expect any other fancy options here either, those are only offered on the specialty burgers. I can't speak to the rest of the menu, but from what everyone else ordered and the comments they made it was lackluster at best. I could almost give a pass on the food if the wait staff performed well and made up for it. Unfortunately we were disappointed again as our waiter disappeared in the middle of the meal and was inexplicitly replaced by not 1, but 2 other waiters throughout the rest of our time. I'm sure inevitably I'll end up back here again, and I'm open to that if only to give PJ's a chance to redeem itself and build on what is a promising after work scene.

Great view. Great Happy Hour Beer Prices. Often very packed so expect a wait for refills. Not too bad but just long enough to be borderline annoying.

when the high-end restaurants open in brookfield this year, pj will surely see a decline in business. the food is on the expensive side and uninteresting. come with the boys for a beer, wings and watch the game. maybe do a work happy hour, but not for dinner. if it wasn't so close to my office, i wouldn't have went at all. frankly, they suck.

Ate outside for lunch after visiting the 911 museum on a Sunday. Service and food were both very good (burger was awesome, very flavorful). The staff was a bit slow but honestly I appreciated that since we sat outside and were enjoying the lovely weather. I took this as they didn't want to rush anyone. Absolutely made for a wonderful afternoon.

This is such a wonderful place to get drinks at in the summer and look at the boats go by and the statue of liberty. They have a huge outdoor area, but it doesn't open for weekends until after labor day. The menu is quite expensive and it's not the best food on earth, just the perfect location. They have big TV's so it's also a good place to watch a game. Staff has always been very friendly. Can't wait for this summer.

What was I thinking?? I live nearby and have eaten here a couple of times over the past decade (that should say enough...no?), and the food was absolute dreck. No.....seriously, it SUCKS! That being said, last Saturday, I walked by on a sunny afternoon with a friend. There were many empty tables outside, so despite my better judgment, I thought that it would be worth it to suffer through the slop just to have a table outside. I approached the host, who if the show Peter Pan is casting for Tinkerbell, he'd be a slam dunk, but I digress. He happily told me that it would be a few moments wait for a table. I was a tad confused as to why given the number of empty tables, but I decided to wait patiently. After 15 minutes, I approached the very sparkly lad and asked him what the problem was. He informed me that no tables were available. I pointed to roughly eight different tables that were sitting empty, and his response to me was that they were not available for a table of two. WTF? I explained to him that I lived locally, and that if I left, I would never be back. He dimly looked at me (dreaming of his next pedicure I'm sure), and simply shrugged. Gotta love minimum wage help. In hindsight, based upon prior dining experiences, it was no loss. The interesting part is that I walked by the restaurant a couple of hours later, and there were still many empty tables. The manager needs to learn that a paying table is worth more than an empty table. Also, word of mouth can be a real killer, especially during the doldrums of winter when this place is a ghost town, but I guess that he could care less. Again, gotta love minimum wage help. Unless you've survived Armageddon, and you're desperate for sustenance, you should seek out other options for your dining needs. Seriously, any other option would do. You've Been Warned!

3.5 Overall rating I would give PJ Clarks 4 stars for many reasons, but price points bump them down to a 3 or 3.5 level. Considering that PJ's is as convenient as you can get for me, and I work in the building, they already start off ahead of the game for me. The bar is always crowded, the bartenders and servers are always cool, and the food is pretty awesome The highlight for this place is in the summer, when you can go the outside area and drink and eat right by the water with an awesome view (can't beat that no matter the price, on a cool summer night) On to the food and drinks: I tried about every possible food here, and there was never a disappointment I highly recommend the sliders/ burgers and wings here. The burgers are juicy and the meat is good quality and along with the fries its a no brainer. All of there standard bar food like Calamari and nachos etc are all good. The drinks are always strong and always get me pretty tipsy before I leave. The main problem with this place, is the food and drinks are really over priced Plain burger with nothing on it and no side is over 6 or 7 dollars, which is not cool, because I have had better burgers for less that included sides and cheese, plus the burger is by no means large, but makes up with taste.....The same basically applies on the drinks, 15 bucks for an Old Fashioned at a bar, is a no no Anyways....Also ate at the Vegas Location, and was happy overall with the food, since the steaks are fairly priced Its a go to if you come here after work and your close by, but unless its the summer I would not come here on my own accord.

Nice view and okay food, but it's overpriced for the type of fare they serve. Vinny and I went for lunch on Christmas Day prior to seeing a movie... and, sure, it was cool that they remained opened for Christmas (or else we wouldn't have had much choice near Battery Park), but I was a little underwhelmed by the food I ordered and most of what I saw being delivered to other tables. On this visit, both of us ordered burgers (go figure), but we did order different varieties... and we both got fries to go along with the burgers. Our consensus was that, even though the food was acceptable, neither meal warranted a $13 price tag. We were also turned off that the fries cost extra and were priced at a whopping $6.20!! What a weird price right???... and, at that price, we expected enough fries to serve 2 people. Nonetheless, the serving size was quite small. Final thoughts: Tourists beware-- this place is more or less a tourist trap. There are plenty of reasonably prices restaurants that are much better. Go to those instead. Just check out my other reviews, and you'll see plenty of them. =)

Went here this past weekend for drinks and dinner. The drinks were great, nice atmosphere, nice view and outdoor seating and I loved the burger I got. I did a name my own with avocado and fried onions. Great place def recommend!!

Had a great lunch with my sister approx. 2 yrs ago. I thought to repeat the experience & reward myself after my workout. Sat outside overlooking the marina and ordered the chicken Caesar salad and a glass of white wine. Was told by the waitress she would be right back with water. I was surprised by how quickly my salad came but I did not receive any water. I looked all around for someone on staff to bring a glass of water, no one around. Finally Got my water and I dug into my salad, what a mistake the chicken was dried and tasteless the salad was over dressed. Left more than half of my salad. Now the wine at 12.00 a glass was good but the pour was on the chintzy side, never the less I decided to make the best of a bad situation and ordered another glass of wine and enjoyed the marina view. Did complain to the waitress and the manager, the waitress was surprised and the manager was going to check with the kitchen. $58.00 including tip I'm never going back. I'm not a tourist visiting NYC, I live in the village and use the Hudson Park frequently. Their loss.

We stopped in for lunch this weekend and we were very disappointed. While the food was acceptable, the service was very very poor. There were a number of large groups in the room but we sat for more than 10 minutes waiting to place our order and except for when our food came we were never visited by wait staff again until I flagged someone down to give us a check. The waiter apologized at the beginning of the meal and the end, acknowledging that we had been ignored. Based on our experience, we could not recommend this restaurant to a friend. PJ Clarke's has always stood for quality to me so we left quite astonished.

I'd like to give this a better rating, if just for the fact it has a very clean, comfortable, casual and inviting ambiance. It seems a nice place to relax, enjoy a drink and some food. Also, the view from the restaurant, terrace and surrounding area is terrific--you can dine with a view of the Statue of Liberty, if you care to. Also, service was very good--I wasn't happy with my drink, and she immediately and happily replaced it. The reason my review isn't better is that the food was only okay. My wife enjoyed the short ribs, but felt the mac and cheese was average and wasn't happy with the jalapenos mixed in with the spinach. I had the clam chowder, which was quite tasty, but the soup was very thin for a chowder and some of the crab meat looked a little dicey. I also had spring rolls that were very mediocre. Maybe it's our fault for coming to a burger and steak place and not ordering burgers or steaks, but we weren't excited by the food here. Another downside is price--this is a very pricey place for the sort of food they serve and casual ambiance. Lastly--and I admit this is't completely fair--but the place was full of drunk, annoying, very loud people. The bar was jammed and damn near unpassable, and everyone was screaming. We were happy to be seated away from the bar, but two tables away was a group of young adults yelling at each other as if they were sitting on opposite sides of the restaurant and not just the table. The fact every other sentence had an f-bomb in it and that half the tables around us had children didn't add to the charm. Maybe we hit a bad night, but this place seems to be a magnet for Battery Park City residents to come and get sloppy drunk.

I appreciate this bar / restaurant for what it is - a gathering place for the professionals working around the financial centre. Burgers, beer, and traditional generic (not in a bad way) American food in a location with a beautiful view of the water. The outdoor dining area is spacious and if the weather is good snag a seat out there and have an extended working lunch or early happy hour. The bar inside is impressively long and I could see cozying up to it for a few cocktails while talking about the workday. Burger-wise they let you specify how you want your burger cooked, which is a rare (pun intended) find. Most places will be using frozen patties and refuse to cook them less than medium. Here I was able to get mine rare! It was a hearty size and while slightly pricy at $17 or so, I felt it was worth it with the quality of ingredients and how it filled me up.

We came here one night and was able to sit outside which was fantastic. There was even a party going on at a nearby boat so we had some entertainment as well. The mojito was one of the best we have ever had, but I can't say the same about their food. Service was great and the staff was friendly. The food was very bland. We got a Cobb salad with Chicken and I can't remember the name of the other dish, but it was a grilled chicken. Both had very little flavor and for the amount of money we were paying, we expected something better tasting. Summary: great ambiance, bland food.

The service here is what suits me. I like it when the waiter comes directly back for the credit card. To me, that is efficiency. They have food runners, that bring your food as soon as it pops up. I've waited less than 10 minutes for my food sometimes. These guys get it. Sell a lot of burgers? Have some in the pipeline at varying temperatures. Other items are a bit over priced, but I usually go for the burger. On a recent sunny, Sunday afternoon, was greeted by no less than 3 people, who seemed sincere and prompt. I could do without the BPC people eating with their dogs, but there was enough room to spread out, outside. Overall great service, and great quality and value, for the burgers anyway.

Came here late last night and had a great experience. Based on the other reviews, I'm pretty sure this won't always be the case, but my waiter was super friendly and our food came out really fast. I had a burger and it was cooked just the way I like it. Super juicy and practically mooing in my hands, I inhaled that burger and longed for more. I've been to the PJ Clarkes uptown and had a great time. Yes, prices here of course will be higher. Like Alysha R. says, it comes with the territory. Yes, I'll be back and yes, I will inhale that burger yet again.

There's really not much to hate about PJ Clarke's. But then again, there's really nothing to love about the place either. It's a chain located in a part of the city that doesn't have much to choose from. I came a few times with coworkers for drinks after work. I don't think there was a happy hour special (or if there was one, it wasn't significant enough for me to remember it). The appetizers I ordered were pretty good but just standard pub fare. The restaurant is massive so if you're ever looking to have a party for you and 200 of your closest friends, this might just be the place for you. One benefit of this PJ Clarke's location is that it's right on the waterfront and they have a rather large area that they open up in the back during the warmer months. Drinking beer and looking at boats is always a plus. Also, the bathrooms were clean. Overall, tollerable to average.

Meh aside from its proximity from our office, I don't see any real incentive in returning. Their french onion soup had no flavor and the burger was also pretty bland. We came in with a party of 7 and no one was really satisfied with their meal.

Why is everything at PJ Clarke's so grossly overpriced? Yes, this location offers some nice views by the water if you sit outside, but I don't think it justifies spending $24 on a lobster roll that is tiny and with hard toasted bread or getting a $10 burger they call "simply on a bun" that is on a plate that is as small as a coffee saucer. If you want either of the above-mentioned items, step right outside the restaurant and walk towards the Ed's Lobster Bar Kiosk by the water for a cheaper and better lobster roll or walk a few extra blocks to get your burger at Shake Shack. Maybe this place is good for happy hour drinks, but I won't be coming here for food again!

I don't understand all the hate for this place. It's a nice bar with courteous service and good drinks and food (albeit a little on the expensive side). If you like greasy burgers, you're gonna love their sliders. I had five or six of them the last time I went. I definitely recommend going outside because the view is phenomenal: the World Financial Center, the Hudson, and the marina are all right in front of you.

Was fun until they kicked us out of the bar for being drunk which was ridiculous because we were being very respectable and polite. Choose someplace that's actually fun.

After walking around the area for a while on a hot afternoon we were in the mood for a beer and a snack so we stopped off at PJ Clarke's on the Hudson. The outdoor area was crowded but we were lucky enough to score a table for two right away! Great! Not exactly... In the amount of time it took to even see a waiter, let alone get a glass of water, I could have taken a cab back to UES and visited any number of local favorites - and it would have been cheaper! I was two minutes from leaving when a waiter finally appeared; but only after my wife flagged him down. He was moderately apologetic, but at that point it made no difference. While the scenery was lovely - perfect sunshine, lots of great people watching, some beautiful boats, and a view of the Statue of Liberty - PJ Clarke's can't take credit for any of this...unless of course you're talking about the tired, the poor and the huddled masses - PJ Clarke's has plenty of these to offer. I had "the Cadillac" burger - hardly. The bun was at least 20% bigger than the burger and, as many have pointed out, the fries are a la carte...they tasted more like "a la counter for a while" - moderately warm and of little flavor; unless stale is considered a flavor. My wife had the standard burger - she was as underwhelmed as I was. The one positive thing I will say is that the beers were cold - which is incredible on a hot day like this and the fact that they must have run up town to get them given how long it took them to find their way to our table. Kudos. I left feeling as though my thirst had been quenched but that I would need a snack as soon as we got home. So, Mr. Clarke, I suggest you add one more group to your tired, your poor, and your huddled masses - hungry. Bottom line - skip it

I came here for lunch and was very pleased with the service and food I had. The servers are very attentive and our food came out much faster than I expected. I ordered the Hamburger Au Poivre and it was cooked exactly to my liking. I hate asking for medium well and being served meat that's too red or overdone. This was cooked perfectly and the fries were very fresh. Their house ketchup is organic and tastes awesome!! Definitely a must-go if you're in the area and looking for a great burger!!

Heading out with fellow interns after work, we came here for appetizers and drinks in one of their outdoor arenas. The service was impeccable, as the waiters were extremely accommodating in what drinks we wanted; it's like they memorize faces so well they could find us even as we moved around. And the drinks? Quite delicious. The food is also four stars. While the dough to the pizza was quite dense and chewy (versus the crispy thin New York style I love), it was hot and gooey as it fantasized with my taste buds. The vegetable rolls were deliciously fried, and the barbecue sauce of pulled pork sliders complemented the crispiness of the creamy cole slaw so well. And the burgers? Not as good as Shake Shack as I tasted unevenly ground meat, but good enough to say delicious, I guess. Standing outside with friends and a few drinks and watching the sun set is one of the most beautiful experiences.

I needed a quick drink after a long unplanned walk with my pup one day (when the president is in town don't even think about crossing west st until he gets to his destination!). Stopped by PJ Clarke's, yes they could seat me and allow my pup in the outside seating area. The waiters were great! Recommended cocktails and oysters were awesome. I ordered the daily special (lobster mac and cheese) to go and it was excellent. They gave my pup some water. Loved loved loved the service. Will definitely be back.

P.J. Clarke's strength is the outside dining. By the water you can view the beautiful yachts, occasional cruise ship (if you're lucky) and Statue of Liberty. The trees shade you as you welcome a fine breeze. That said - the food is expensively average. At lunch I usually choose either the Lobster Roll or the Crab Cake Sandwich. (note - small with no fries $17). If you're sitting inside an entirely different experience. Place can be loud and congested. 3 Stars for the outside dining / 1 1/2 - 2 stars if you're stuck inside. ...Don't get stuck inside...

I would have gone for two stars on PJ Clarke's, but this restaurant has some redeeming factors that gave it a TINY extra bit. The location is absolutely beautiful and seating is plentiful. The food, was "eh". Nothing I can't get anywhere else. The drinks, pricey yet strong. Overall it was an "A-OK" experience with an accommodating waiter who met our needs.

Nicely done drinks, tasty bar nibbles, and plenty of space to sit and stand as well as lots of outdoor seating for the nicer months. Really looking forward to some Friday evenings here in the summer for the lovely riverside location.

Highly, highly recommend! Besides the amazing views, the staff goes out of their way to make customers feel special and enjoy their time at PJ Clarkes. My parents celebrated their 30th and 31st anniversary here and have NO complaints. Excellent service, quality food and wonderful location in NYC - in view of the Statue of Liberty. Outside seating is a bonus!

Great location if you're working in the area. The place is surprisingly large with plenty of tables and waiters. However, for the time I went which was during lunch hours, the service was a bit slow. Had a burger there with some fries. Didn't really impress me considering their above average prices. I would recommend going to Shake Shack in the area or trying any of the food trucks that's there daily over this place.

Basically I expect to pay more due to their address. However, all of the four people in my party agreed that although our food was edible, it was not great by any means. I ordered the macaroni and cheese w/ham. What I got instead was ear shaped pasta in Alfredo sauce. The pasta contained peas, which both the pasta and peas were undercooked. Alfredo sauce is ok if it is what I order, but when it is supposed to replace a $14 mac n cheese it was a big disappointment. My friends got a burger that was not as great as to even be average, sweet potato fries that were soggy, and chili that was sort of bland. You decide if you want to take a chance on this place. The view is ok but not worth this experience in my opinion.

While I usually avoid chain pubs and suit hangouts like PJ Clarke's, I was recently there for a company event and was blown away by the beautiful views of the Hudson River. The restaurant and bar is fairly large and also offers an expansive outdoor dining section overlooking the Hudson River and beautiful marina of the World Financial Center. There is a huge after-work crowd enjoying happy hour drinks and bar snacks. I was at PJ's for a company function and was impressed with the service. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. The Savignon Blanc was sweet and flavorful. The crab cakes were a bit over-fried, but well-seasoned, dabbed with a spicy tarter sauce. The vegetable and dip, and cheese and cracker platters were fresh and crisp. They were also offering mini cheeseburgers, pigs in a blanket, grilled chicken skewers, etc. I was impressed.

Old mainstay... This place is a gem within the confines of Battery Park City. The decor is in-line with what you'd expect from the owners trying to replicate the feel of the original bar from Midtown East but instead of 3rd ave, you get a fantastic view of the marina and JC. Summer time is even better when they open up the out door seating so that you can enjoy the weather with a brew and burger. The prices are not cheap, but appropriate for the area and the food is solid. I have been a patron of both this and the midtown east location and wouldn't have to think twice about hitting up any of their other locations nationally.

Went here yesterday for a really late lunch/early dinner. The reviews are all on target. If you're walking by the World Financial Center looking for a place to eat, walk 50 feet further and go to SouthWestNY. It's not fantastic, but definitely better. Pros for P.J. Clarke's: - Got seated right away on the outdoor patio. - My fiance ordered a 1/2 half dozen Blue Point oysters and said they were great. Plus, they were $2 a piece, which, for this place, is quite a reasonable price. - I ordered the veggie chopped salad. Nice array of veggies and well-dressed. Definitely a healthful choice, albeit very steep at $7.90 for a side salad. - I ordered the fried calamari, which was well-cooked and very meaty. Cons: (Where do I start?) - Seriously, $12 for a plain old burger that's no bigger than a classic, supermarket hamburger bun? I mean the thing is served on a saucer for crying out loud...not to mention the fact that it's not served with fries. - The service is atrocious. Our server was so meek we could hardly even hear her...plus, she did this amazing disappearing act each time we needed something. The bus boy, on the other hand, was too ambitious. Before our entrees came, I finished my glass of water. He came and took my water glass...that was the last time I saw it. Nope, no water refill. He brought us our entrees and I asked for more water. Nope, no water refill then either. Finally, our server reappeared and I asked her for more water. Fifteen minutes later (total of 30 minutes after my original glass was snatched up) I finally got my refill. - My calamari was available in two different ways: classic or Rhode Island style (with hot peppers). My server never asked which way I preferred. I wrongly assumed they would come out classic. Nope, hot peppers were woven into every piece. She's lucky I'm a person who can handle heat. Plus, the marinara dipping sauce...c'mon guys, it's like ketchup meets salsa...blech. - The prices are absolutely outrageous. I realize this is NY AND that's is in a heavy tourist area, but seriously? The cheapest entree salad is $17. You're a sub-par bar and grill. Get over yourself. The only thing that redeemed this experience was the location. The outdoor patio was extensive and makes for great people watching. Plus, there was a yacht docked with two beautiful sailboats, all of which framed the Statue of Liberty in the distance. Very serene.

Really one of the only spots on the west side of the highway to grab a drink after work (with decent outdoor space). Nothing beats the atmosphere on a summer evening having some beers by the waterfront. Food is decent but a little over priced. Standard pub fare. Can get crowded.

I went here last weekend with a groups of friends for a party after we took a sail ride on the Hudson. We arrived around 2:00 for lunch and drinks. We sat outside and enjoyed the nice view. The service could have been more friendly but overall it was a nice lunch. Very big place with alot of outdoor seating and you can also just hang by the bar inside. I got the burger with fries and it was good. It wasn't the best burger I got, but it hit the spot and they cooked it just like a asked. I would def come back here on a nice spring or summer day for lunch or a cold drink. The other 10 people we were with all enjoyed the food the atmosphere. If you are around this area of NY and are looking for a place to have a nice lunch while enjoying a drink outside, go check this place out.

We went there on Valentine's Day and it wasn't very crowed and we were able to sit by the window with beautiful view of the 911 Memorial Park. The waiter was super nice and funny, the entree was pleasant, we ordered Third Ave Shrimp Salad, Hand Picked Crab Cake and Chopped Angus Steak; for dessert, the Warm Bread Pudding was very impressive! Thank you PJ Charke for making our night special, lol

well, just hope you dont get an outdoor table next to large, LOUD family with obnoxious kids bouncing basketballs all around you... cause the spineless manager wont say anything to them. he says "people get weird when it comes to their kids" ...really? Tell us something we DON'T know! ...but what the hell does that have to do with the MONEY your OTHER PATRONS are spending to enjoy an evening out??? I've worked in the business, you dont ALLOW your patrons to treat your restaurant like a JUNGLE GYM! this manager either knew this family or simply doesn't have the professional where-with-all to handle a CUSTOMER SERVICE ISSUE involving excessively loud and disruptive guests. He told us he would have been glad to move US to another table. I replied "that is not fair to your other patrons who have already settled into their table" ...what a joke. ...next time (?), we will simply say thanks for the free food and drink and walk away into the sunset. there are other restaurants opening up the Battery Park area, no need to spend money at a place that only values the experiences of particular patrons.

Came here for a late dinner after a long flight into JFK. My family and I liked the close proximity to our hotel and decided to stop in for food. Service here is sub-par; our waitress was usually found flirting with the bar staff or talking shit on tables with the bussers. I got the shrimp sandwich; open face with a pile of shrimp, spinach, and tomatoes. Everything was well cooked and delicious; the toast was also about an inch thick! I also like that they have Brooklyn and Six Point beers on tap. Great place for food if you're in Battery Park late at night and need a decent bite, but by no means outstanding.

First the positives... Very, very good calamari and great service. The people are super friendly. Now for the rest of the story... My boyfriend hates restaurants with wide-mouth ketchup bottles. They are extremely unsanitary as children and barbarians can lick their knives and stick them back in the bottle. Honestly, that was the least of our troubles. In a nutshell, the shrimp salad was small, overpriced and had very little shrimp. It also has so many slaty olives it's almost inedible. The chicken and swiss sandwich was so dry we had to take a drink of water with each bite to get it down. Did I mention how overpriced this restaurant is?

Lived in this neighborhood for three years. Few things beat a summer afternoon sitting by the marina having a few beers at P.J. Clarke's. With that said, the food and service are average at best. Chilli is solid value and tasty but the rest is over priced and lacking quality. Burgers are very inconsistent. They make you wait a while and they are usually overcooked. Food has come out cold before as well. Never, get this delivered as it has ALWAYS arrived cold and very late.

Lots of things to love about this place. One is the outdoor seating. The views of the marina and skyline across the Hudson are great. The burgers here are legendary. They have a full bar with TV's showing sports an news. The seating is comfortable, the service is quick and courteous an the overall atmosphere is cool. I'm usually there for lunch but I'm sure it's great to eat outside in the evening on fair weather nights.

i'll be honest. everything tastes great. the mini sliders are moist, the fries are cooked nicely with a crispy exterior and a soft interior, happy hour oysters are juicy and full of briny flavor, dip is good (although i dont like the little toasted bread pieces they serve with it). the wings are just whatever in my opinion and that bleu cheese sauce is like water. HOWEVER, wtf is up with the prices!? they overcharge for everything and it pisses me off bc your 3 stupid sliders are not worth $17.. not even close.

UPDATE: I went for brunch a few weekends ago. I don't eat pork but I really wanted the Eggs Benedict. I asked them to please substitute the pork with the turkey sausage described in the Irish Breakfast entree. The waiter came back after I ordered to apologetically tell me that the chef said he won't substitute - however, he would make me 2 eggs sunnyside up with turkey sausage and toast (a dish entirely NOT on the menu) which ended up costing me like $15. WTF? Once again - do NOT order any food here except the oyster happy hour special and the delicious side of french fries. Everything else is super expensive, unaccommodating, and NOT worth it.

I come here a decent amount because it's convenient from work. The food is decent but way overpriced. The burger is definitely not worth the hype - it's OK but not delicious and doesn't come with fries, that is just ludicrous. And the fries are good! Also, I 100% agree with one of the reviewer's comments on the mushrooms. When I asked for mushrooms, I didn't expect larger than my head mushroom caps that were kinda greasy and just plain odd. What is interesting is that the other food I have gotten is actually really good, specifically their shrimp salad and their tater tot appetizer. Again though, overpriced. Also, they don't take reservations which is super annoying if you're coming with a group and they don't seat you until the whole party arrives.

The only reason why this place gets 2 stars is because of the location/view... I have been to PJ Clarke's a couple of times when I used to work for ML, but I only went there for drinks and I didn't really complain (even though there wasn't any happy hour! How could you not have a happy hour!!!) because of convenience. Finally, this week I actually had a meal there, and I was greatly disappointed. You would think with the prices you're paying, you would get a much better meal, or at least a larger portion. I am never afraid to spend money, but at least represent your prices! I really don't have much to say about this place, it's just a big disappointment. If you work in in the WFC, then you're pretty much just stuck going there because everyone goes there. I have heard that the other PJ Clarke's is much better, so I will definitely try that. I'm glad in all the years I worked downtown, I never once had a meal there.

Not bad food, great location if you're in the battery park area and want a bight to eat. Expect to see full NYC prices though for pub food.

Only decent option for a quality burger in WFC...guess thats why its so expensive? This place leverages its isolated location and well known burger name to bring good but high priced pub grub to hungry financial workers and clueless tourists who wander aimlessly around the complex, inevitably drawn to the inviting outdoor tables near the yachts. But cmon guys, $18 for a cobb salad? the same for meager but well seasoned chicken paillard or serviceable chicken pot pie? I just had a $15 turkey club that only came with a lonely pickle! Look, the burgers are very good, theyre properly cooked and have decent girth but a bacon cheeseburger is $12 without fries so youre looking at an $18 bacon cheeseburger if you want it served with the fries that are included pretty much everywhere else in the city. Seems a little much... I'll continue to eat here for lack of better options and its also quality place to sneak down from the office and watch sporting events. The main bar in front has huge projection screens and usually has sound on and the overflow bar in the back is also well apportioned and has comfortable tables to eat while you watch.

One of the best after work scenes in the city. Great space outside the World financial center right on the river with shade from trees outside. You can get buckets of beer and hang outside, nice clean restrooms. When you get hungry, get a tray of sliders and some of the best French fries in the city. Good young wall street crowd because of its location, not a tourist trap.

We had a good Saturday lunch experience here, with the family. Very professional waiter, comfortable seating, good selection of food, kid friendly, and a great waterfront location, ideal during good weather, with a historic, rich, steakhouse/bar type of decor. We were a decent-sized party with different food tastes, and the menu accommodated us all.

  • Chris H.

Greasy, albeit juicy, overpriced and under-dressed burgers served on plates the size of chiclets (comes sans fries). I had serious reservations about the plate size... it seems like a pedantic observation, but if i'm paying $12 for just a burger (again, it comes as is... side's are extra), i'd like a plate with real estate to spare. Eating off what is essentially a tea saucer is just obnoxious. On another note; Side dishes of fries and broccoli rabe come under-portioned, and again, pricey for the quality/quantity. My dining companions conservatively scrape single tendrils of shared fries onto their plates. Great for a diet, but not so great if you're hungry. This would be forgivable, if the food was actually good, but this inexplicable New York favorite is essentially an Applebees at Manhattan prices. Thus, this is the price that we New Yorkers pay for a bit of waterfront space. This recession is a kick in the balls.

Good food. Great view. A bit pricey. The good: - Third Ave Jumbo Shrimp Chopped Salad - Lobster Roll - Fries (which upon request they will happily, helpfully make sweet potato fries) - Burgers (go beef, not turkey here) - Bubble and Squeak (aka sliders which as also cooked to order) The bad: the prices and the slow for lunch hour service The silly: Of late, this seems to be the GS boys pick up spot. Oye.

PJ Clarke's Midtown is an institution. It's like that popular, handsome, life of the party, successful, nice, and funny Finance Guy everyone wants to be around. PJ Clarke's on the Hudson is like Midtown's little brother who is WAY better looking, better dressed, just as successful, but totally lacks in the personality department and comes across as...awkward. And over priced with rude waitresses. But a gorgeous view. And sometimes you just kind of need the eye-candy (of the water) and ignore everything else. If you go: a) Sit near the water b) Don't let the waitress assume you're drunk and overcharge you (nip that in the bud) c) If you get the spinach dip, realize it's lacking and way too dry and chunky. d) No happy hour drink specials..so sad

  • Becky O.

On a nice day, this place is perfectly situated (if you sit outside) overlooking the Hudson. So, the location is great. Other than that, it's essentially burgers & stuff. Their turkey burger is pretty good. If you are in the NY area during a warm day, I would suggest you head to Battery Park City and check this place out. Sit outside, have a beer or glass of wine and stare at the beautiful hudson and the boats. Very serene and cool place to hang when it's warm.

if i could give this palce 0 stars i would. i found a piece of GLASS in my wine. that is all i have to say... the waiter asked me if i wanted another one. I should have sued them.

i think the pj clarke's burger is one of the better burgers in new york city. it's not a very big burger, but, more often than not, it's juicy and reliably tasty (although consumed in three and a half bites). the fries are to my liking - crispy, that is. my wife points out that the fries lack the flavor of potato, the tuber from which fries ostensibly derive, and I'd have to agree. but, if the french fries are crunchy and salty, I'm generally satisfied. the issue i have with PJ's is that they charge a little too much. but they have the best burger within a four block radius (and yes - that includes the strangely popular fast food joint known as Shake Shack), in a part of town with very limited food options. If you have the time and energy to walk a ways, you can enjoy the superior burger at Zaitzeff. but if you're in the world financial center area and need a place to grab a bite and a beer, PJ Clarke's is a good option. note: i don't vouch for the non-burger options here. i just cannot.

As many have pointed out, the setting on a summer's day really is awesome. This is why we chose to come down here in the first place. We really felt like burgers and were told they were really good so we thought we would give them a try. We had to wait 30 minutes for a table to begin with which is normal so it was not a problem at all. When we finally sat down we waited a while to get served and the waiter seemed very bored and disinterested. I had to ask for ice for my drink twice. My husband asked for extra crispy bacon on his Cadillac burger and it came limp and soggy so we had to send it back. The burgers were definitely below average and were served on a tiny saucer with an old pickle squashed onto the side. I am not a child and prefer a normal sized plate when I eat a meal. The table next to us seemed to have scored the large plates for their burgers? The sweet potato fries were also soggy and such a small portion, considering you have to order these separately as fries do not come with the burger. I may come back for the Chardonnay and setting, but will never be back to eat.

I'm sure that the weekday crowd of buzzed brokers works its soul-killing magic here as it does elsewhere, but weekends are a different and much happier story. It was my birthday. We were fresh from the phenomenal Nelson A. Rockefeller playground with nearly-two miss Mary in tow. She didn't want the party to end and while we were there, it didn't. Our weekend waitress was far from rude-- a pleasantly attentive, punky strawberry blonde with a dancing skeleton tattoo on her forearm. When we requested they lower the volume on the jukebox, she did. Once the music was lowered beneath the threshold of pain that seems the norm in bars today we were able to enjoy the decently stocked jukebox and order our burgers, calamari and fries. The food was bar food but pretty good of the type. The calamari crisp, not rubbery even if the dipping sauce lacked any discernable character. The much-maligned-on-this-board burger was well cooked, tasty and fresh. The evening light was pink, the air was soft and gently scented with flowers. There were cruise ships on the Hudson and my daughter discovered how much she really loves french fries and dancing to Counting Crows and The Rolling Stones. It's all good-- on a Sunday.

We strolled up from Battery Park City along the Westside waterfront to PJ Clarks desiring a simple and casual Sunday afternoon meal with outdoor seating. Although there where several waterfront tables open, we were told there was a 15 minute wait. We decided to hang out in earshot and less than 5 minutes later we were seated at a table in the SUN. My pale (think translucent) skin cannot take that so with no waiters or PJ employees in sight, we moved ourselves to a nearby shady table and we were much happier. Our waiter was friendly, but busy as he served us our dishes: Tater Tots (gooey and greasy! Avoid.) Wings (big portion and seasoned just right! Yum.) Buffalo Chicken Sandwich (Good, but the slaw was bad. Overall fine.) Mile High Shrimp Sandwich (Excellent!) I'd actually go back for the Shrimp Sandwich! They don't skimp on the shrimp! (This place is getting 3 stars based solely an the shrimp sandwich and ample outdoor seating) Lower your expectations and this place is fine. Expect quality service and food and you'll be disappointed.

I absolutely ADORE sitting outside at PJ Clarke's on a beautiful summer day, staring out into the marina. Apparently all the merc traders, tribeca mommies and random tourists agree. PJClarke's is the place to be on a balmy summer day and even come winter it's nice and cozy too. When I go, my choice orders are Stellas, beef sliders and kicking up my feet. In the winter I like to indulge in FRENCH FRIES (they're good here, skinney like McDonald's fries), sliders and some delicious chilli soup.

This was my third visit and I have enjoyed 1 lunch and 2 dinners, it's a short walk from the office making it quite convenient. The happy hour is from 4 - 7 and they offer a daily oyster special for 75 cents each. My most recent visit I had one of the best Reuben Sandwich's that I have ever had; mounds of warm corned beef, generous serving of sauerkraut and the tangy sauce was splendid. The coworker I was with, had the daily special, which seemed ample and quite popular with other guests. This restaurant has an awesome view of the harbor and in warmer months offer outdoor seating. Great atmosphere good service - I will be back.

We live in the neighborhood and avoid this place. It's noisy, crowded with tourists on the weekends, and filled with obnoxious business drunks on weeknights. Sadly, it seems to suffer from disorganized service, or maybe it's understaffed. I've felt bad for our stressed out servers whenever I've been here. Everything is pretty much ala carte too. The burgers didn't come with fries and both were overly greasy. I'd opt for Southwest. Their burgers are good and come with great fries. Also, and not that I was expecting great wine, at PJ Clarke's (I'm sure their beers are good though), but I'd really avoid their Malbec. I haven't met many Malbecs that I can't at least drink with red meat, but I couldn't drink their bottle.

Awful food, nice view. Tasteless hamburger, dry fries. Overpriced, even for a tourist trap like this. Just get a beer or glass of wine, they probably can't mess that up-probably. Plenty of other places nearby to go withou getting ripped off.

  • Alex P.

Get the right seat and you get a great view here. But overpriced doesn't even begin to describe it. A small, overcooked, mediocre bacon cheeseburger, presented on its own, without effort on a tiny plate, ordered with a side of fries will set you back $21. They can get away with it because of the location, but don't be fooled into thinking this place has anything going for it apart from the view.

PJ Clarke's seem to be around when I'm in the mood for some fresh oysters! We were walking about downtown and the urge came about. We did walk quite a ways to get to it (since we had been to the other two already). This one is setup more like an extended bar with view to the river. Very nice and welcoming. In any event, the food was nice, as usual. We just had small plates buffalo wings (kinda mild more like calf wings), shrimp gumbo (very good), fried calamari and pigs in a blanket. The oysters (bakers dozen) were fresh as ever, a nice drop of Tabasco and bang! all great! My only complaint, and this could bring my review down to 3 stars, was the service. Our server was not very attentive. He seemed to forget he had a table to take care of. Many of our requests where fulfilled by more attentive waiters and the floor manager who was very helpful. Aside from that we did notice one of the kitchen staff notices his lack of interest while we called and gave him a good scolding! that on itself made our night!

This place is TERRIBLE. First off the fork was filled with crusty old ketchup. The brought me wrong thing (Mac and cheese) when I ordered chicken tenders and then the chicken was disgusting. Will not recommend and will definitely not be going to any pj clarkes in NYC ever again!!!

PJ Clarke's on the Hudson was so bad I don't know where to begin. Service - Deplorable Food - Deplorable We called ahead and asked for a table outside for 4 at 7:00PM on 5/28/2011 and they said they don't take reservations. We asked the young lady on the phone if we could smoke cigars outside and she said YES. Get there at 6:45 PM most of the tables are empty but only two of us are there and they won't seat us because all four people are not there. At 6:48 PM the other two show up and they seat us. We sit down order drinks and two raw seafood platters and a bottle of water at 7:00 PM and at 7:20 PM we still don't have drinks so we ask. The place at this point is still not busy. At 7:35 PM we get our drinks the ice is melted in the drinks and they did not have the lemons or limes or olives in ANY of the the drinks. Just melted ice and vodka. The waitress says she'll be back. 7:45 still no waitress. So we're here an hour and still don't have our drinks so we light our cigars we were told we could smoke outside. The manager in 15 seconds comes over and said the police will come over if they see us smoking. I asked why the person on the phone said we could smoke outdoors and the manager said it's against the law ANYWHERE in New York City to smoke. We know this is a LIE but don't want to fight with this very affected man. 1. The police do not enforce this law in New Yoek City the Parks Department does. 2. The law is ONLY if you're inside or seated near the entrance of a food service establisment. We were seated next to the water. We put out our cigars when asked. and we tell him we've been waiting a long time for our drinks and he says he'll find our waitress. At 7:55 the waitress brings drinks and the bottle of wine we ordered. But forgot the bottle of water. At 8:10 we ask again where the raw seafood platters are and the waitress says she'll run in the kitchen. She still did not bring the bottle of water we ordered at 7:00 PM One hour and ten minutes to get a water??? At 8:25 we get the seafood platters and everything is floating in water not ice. The raw seafood was VILE. Oysters and clams are not pink but yellow and brown from being OLD. We ate the shrimp and a few Oysters and left the rest. We poured our own $100.00 bottle of wine as there was NO service. No one cleared the table when we finished with the raw SPOILED seafood. It was obvious we picked at things and left them, not be eaten. We covered the clams with flatware and wrappers from the oyster crackers. The crackers were the only edible things on the table. Before the table was cleared the waitress came over and asked us if we wanted to order dinner. We ordered dinner at 8:50 and then it gets worse. STILL NO BOTTLE OF WATER We order a shrimp mile high sandwich, a shrimp salad, fish tacos, turkey burger, potato tots, fries and sweet potato fries. At 9:28 we got our food. The fish tacos smelled like spoiled fish, the turkey burger had the wrong cheese on it and was cold, the french fries were cold and filled with grease and the mile high shrimp sandwich turns out NOT to be a sandwich but breaded shrimp on lettuce with a piece of bread on the bottom soaked in a watery sour dressing. The pretend shrimp sandwich is so bad we send it back and order a CLUB sandwich. To me, a turkey club is supposed to be a robust sandwich. It's 3 slices of bread, crisp greens, ripe tomato, crisp bacon and turkey. The waitress comes over and asks us if we know that the turkey club sandwich is REALLY a sandwich and not a salad. We all look at each other and wonder if we've stepped into another dimension. So something on the menu that says it's a sandwich is REALLY a sandwhich and she HAS to come over and check again if we REALLY want a sandwhich? The others don't eat their food after they pick at it it's so bad. At 9:45 we get their club sandwich and it's no more than two slices of soggy rye toast, wilted lettuce and bacon not cooked with a thin slice of turkey. We leave the sandwich after trying a few bites. The manager himself had brought it over and THROWS it on the table. "Throwing garbage" We order another round of drinks. Since we can't eat. At 10:38 we have asked for the check 2 times as no one comes over. So we light our cigars! In "15 seconds" the hostess comes over and says we can't smoke. Where are these people DURING the meal??? We said we're leaving, we just want our check. She gets the waitress and we get our check and leave. Pick anyplace but this overpriced TOURIST RIP-OFF DUMP. The check came to $326.00 Eat GLASS before you go to this place. I gave this place one star because you can't give a negative number on Yelp. If you are thinking of going here..... DON'T. As someone who lives in and grew up in NYC, this is a PRIME example of a place that get TONS of touists. Knowing they will NEVER see them again, they RIP them OFF

    (1)
  • C D.

I had a great time, even though I give it 2 stars. Everyone in the city knows that PJs is for after work drinks, and they do that perfectly well. Plus, you can sit outside and watch sailboats and tourists bob in the water over an undersized $14 martini. Well, the tourists don't bob in the water, but there sure are a lot of them by ground zero.

  • Todd S.

I met some friends here for drinks after work. We had a great table outside, and had a view of all the ships docked at the world financial center. The food looked ridiculously overpriced, so I stuck to drinks. I had the blue point IPA, which was very good. I wouldn't recommend coming here to eat a full meal because it looks like you'll get ripped off ($24 for a dozen oysters!), but it's certainly a great outdoor spot with nice view--good place to get some after work drinks.

  • Geraldine K.

PJ Clarke's at the World Financial Center is the social haven for bankers and traders who work on the premises. It is hard to imagine that anyone outside the financial profession would visit PJ Clarke's unless they worked at the WFC's retail boutiques or they happened to be a bored tourist visiting downtown. I can make a safe bet that PJ Clarke's business primarily thrives on its after work happy hours. I've been there for lunch, and while it's crowded then, I have never understood the reason. Yes, the view of the waterfront is lovely, especially when it's reasonably warm to sit outside and enjoy the sun and breeze. But really, what really satisfies my hunger is not the natural elements but good food. Simply put, the quality of food at PJ Clarke's doesn't meet the prices it demands, and I believe PJ gets away with it because its clientele are financiers - prices are of less importance than convenience, I guess. But really, I'd like to see if PJ's will lower its prices in the forthcoming economic recession. This isn't to say that I don't have fun at PJ's if I happen to be there, but I could very well enjoy myself if I were with the same company at some other local bar. I would recommend PJ Clarke's if you are in finance or if you are looking to make acquaintances with this circle. If not, you can always use the excuse that you're looking for some extra fodder to Yelp. ;)

FROZEN fries with an overpriced burger? forget it. If I want frozen fries McDonalds does it better. Making fresh cut fries is the easiest thing in the world and doesn't cost any more than a potato. I'm not asking for anything exotic. If PJ's is cool with having frozen fries, then I'm guessing they don't care about their food.

A quick sip while out and about on a increasingly drizzly Saturday close to the waters and Battery Park. The servers and bartender were very accommodating, our bartender was great and he agrees that there should be a Peet's Coffee in NY, but I digress, this place is good for a drink and a nibble. Their buffalo wings are zesty, their sliders are pretty damn good after a couple of Magners, and they have Magners. Enough said.

  • Calvin H.

Best attribute of this place - outdoor seating in the summertime. It is nice to be on the water with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. That being said, food is really bad, service is not great. Since the main reason one goes to a restaurant is the food, this place just does not cut it...

    (2)
  • Deanne Y.

I don't think you come to PJ Clarke's for the fine cuisine. This location is about comfort food and the outdoor seating area. The restaurant is more like an upscale TGIFriday's, with business people congregating for burgers and beer after work, and it's located inside WFC, which has an airport mall restauarant food court vibe going on. I would definitely go back for the drinks and the view from the outdoor area, but the food was kind of MEH.

The food here is OK generally, but today's visit annoyed me. Got a turkey burger which was alright, but for what they charge should be much better. Also, had a add-on of "smother of onions" . Couldn't have been more that a tablespoon of onions in their version of "smother". They need to attend to their food service because the table service is really pretty good. I don't go there for the waiter's efficiency. For what they get for their food I expect more care.

READ THIS LINE: Overpriced, tourist trap! We recently moved to the area and wanted to try something by the Hudson for brunch. Well, we stumble upon PJ Clarke's. Unfortunately, this place was an absolute disappointment! First, it's situated right next to the Hudson so it's a MAJOR tourist trap. Second, food is EXTREMELY overpriced. We paid $16+ for a buffalo chicken sandwich, which didn't include sides. Our Cesar Salad was $8+ which was literally romaine lettuce with store bought sauce mixed together and served on a salad plate. I ordered a soda which was $3.25 and YES they charge $3.25 for a refill and they don't even inform you about it! BEWARE! Third, the quality of the food was SUB-PAR. Fourth, the service was MEDIOCRE. Our waiter was disappointed that we didn't order a ton of food and drinks and because we didn't order a bunch of food, we literally would have to ask the bus boy to hunt our waiter down for us because he refused to service our table. I'll NEVER, EVER, go to PJ Clarke's again. Such a bad choice. I felt so ripped off and taken advantage of.

I wanted to do three stars - I really did. But I couldn't. Working 19 floors north of this place, I have been 10+ times. They are very consistent - bad service, good food that rarely comes out as ordered, unjustified pricing, and a great outdoor seating area. The seating and convenience were going to bump them to four stars, but the horrific service on my last visit led to this assessment.

I went for an company event for drinks. Atmosphere is the best part of this place. i love the americana feel when you step into the joint. Food was whatever but i was really impressed by the sliders (GOOOOD!!!)

Pretty blah burger. It's an after work place for younger, suited-up folks. It's kind of like a pretentious chain restaurant or something. A friend of mine wanted to come here from out of town - can you believe it? Turned down my rec's for amazing places all over the city, to go eat in a mall...

    (2)
  • Kristin S.

I haven't eaten at this PJ's, so I cannot speak to the food. HOWEVER, it is a good location for after work drinks in the summer time because you can sit outside with a view of the boats in the North Cove Marina. It gets pretty busy right after work, but there is a lot of standing room both inside and outside.

  • Tarra T.

I work in the bldg so I've only been to this place for team lunches and after work drinks. It caters to the business crowd in the area so it's a little on the pricey side for a Friday's / Chili's type of establishment but if you're using the corporate card - WHO CARES?!?! lol. The crab cake is a good starter and the Cobb Salad is pretty good. There's a pretty good selection of Seafood and American food options. There's also outside seating which is nice because of the view of the Hudson. Psss...the restaurant is right near the dock where they shot the wave runner scene from Hitch! (Love that movie!) Oh and a hint on the location, it's actually inside the World Financial Center so you'll need to go in through that lobby to get to the restaurant.

Surprised not many good reviews here as PJ Clarks has the best mini burgers this side of town...not to mention the shrimp cocktail, clams, oysters, chicken pot pie, bubble and squeek... yes its very pricey but I have yet to have a meal I didn't enjoy, nor have I had a regular burger from here....they have a great view similar to SWNY the brunch I'm not a fan of, for some reason the coffee always taste burnt and the breakfast are just too big...they also have a good beer selection and nice waiters and bartenders

  • Vanessa N.

The food was great. It didn't take long for us to be seating and our food came within a reasonable time! I was disappointed in the salmon as it had bones in it, a ton of them. My daughters sliders were a bit dry

  • Allison B.

Well, I now know what a $16 club sandwich tastes like. But seriously, this was a great casual restaurant both conveniently and beautifully located on the waterfront (great for people watching) with comfort food and relaxed service. I really should have ordered what my colleague did - a chicken sandwich with swiss, some kind of dill sauce, and cucumbers on a hearty roll. My other colleagues turkey and brie looked great too. And ok, ok, I will admit, there was some kind of spice in the mayo on my club sandwich that gave it a distinctive kick. So 4 stars for you PJ!

    (4)
  • Phillip L.

No, do not go here. The prices are ridiculous - $9 for a burger literally served on a saucer because it comes with nothing else OR $16 for a dry chicken sandwich that only comes with coleslaw & a pickle? NO! Service is a mixed bag but usually indifferent to poor. Our waiter today had a toothpick in his mouth the entire time and only checked on us when we literally waved him down to demand water refills. Food is ok, but can take a long time to appear when they are in lunch rush mode. Once again, ridic prices though - 10 tater tots (while delicious) cost $5.80. You read that correctly. Outdoor seating is beautiful on a nice day, but that's one of the only things keeping this place in business.

    (2)
  • Al J.

Exactly as you'd expect. A tasty, greasy, cheeseburger with little fanfare and cold mugs of Sam Adams. For ~$10, including fries, you can't really go wrong. I wouldn't put the PJ Clarke's burger in the upper-echelon of the NYC Burger Pantheon, but it's still pretty damn good.

Maybe it's not fair to rate PJ Clarke's based on their brunch; clearly that meal is not the tastiest tool in its repertoire. But when it takes just shy of an hour to get an order into the kitchen, another thirty minutes to bring out the wrong food, and way too long to get a check and get out of dodge, I'm left pining for my Sunday afternoon back and Yelp is my only outlet. I didn't have high expectations for a chain restaurant in the Financial District but I was unpleasantly surprised at just how horrible the service and food was. I'd highly recommend staying away from the huevos rancheros. I don't know how to make huevos rancheros--I don't even know what's in there, but it's usually pretty tasty. Whatever came out from the kitchen, I'm pretty sure I could have whipped it up and haphazardly thrown it on a dish that suspiciously looks like the Scandinavian crap I bought from Ikea. And paying an extra $2.00 for toast just seems unamerican. The outdoor seating on the promenade is the only reason this review nets two stars. Barely. For as beautiful as the view is, watching the pigeons chow down while I waited forever for my food was infuriating. Once the winter hits, I'd rather eat stock ticker sheets than come back here.

Good burgers and a decent view of the Hudson and the yachts of manhattan's super rich.

Average food (get regular fries not sweet potato and it is a side for $7, only enough for 2), good view and our server made an extra effort to get us inside when the weather changed. Pleasant but not a destination restaurant.

The location alone earns PJ Clarke's four stars. Sure, I'm totally biased since I live in the neighborhood and can't get enough of dining with a waterfront view. With that said, the nightly oyster happy hour from 4-7pm keeps that 4th star securely in place. Now, I'm no oyster afficionado by any means, and one of these days, when (if?) I'm classy enough, I'll refine my oyster palatte and be able to tell the difference between East and West Coast varieties. But for now, I'm just happy to slurp them down! Especially when they come at $0.75 a pop! Yep, you heard right! The only caveat is that you have to order at least half a dozen. As if that's really any trouble at all! The regular priced oysters are $1.25, which is still pretty cheap! (And no, I didn't get food poisoning afterwards, in case you're wondering.) The rest of the food was only okay. I had a crabcake sandwich, which was one of the wimpiest crabcakes I've ever had. It started falling apart a few bites into it and turned into a big ol' mushy mess. The crab meat didn't seem fresh at all - I felt like it could have come out of the frozen food aisle. And it didn't even come with fries! My mom's PEI mussels were fine, if not on the small side. The waitstaff was friendly, if not a little dazed and confused at times. I think it was our waittress' first day or something b/c she kept misinforming us about the oyster happy hour special. She was very apologetic and sweet, though, so we didn't really mind. But it took my mom a few tries to get them to bring us some extra bread to soak up her mussel sauce. Instead of bread, they gave us the check, but they then realized their error and eventually brought the bread. One last note about this place (and this is where my nostalgia kicks in): Pre-9/11 this was a really good restaurant called Edward Moran's. They also served American fare, but overall it was a lot better. This was my first time visiting this space since before 9/11 and it doesn't look like they changed a whole lot about it. As you can guess, Edward Moran's couldn't recuperate from their business loss and never re-opened, which is a shame. So I'll toast its memory with each oyster that I pop in my mouth. RIP Edward.

their happy hour didn't really make me all that happy... because their 75 cent oysters were crappy at best and their really wasn't much of a discount on their drinks. what we come here for are the pitchers of blue moon and good fries. the fries here are surprisingly really good and can be addictive while you're enjoying your nice ice cold beer. otherwise, the food here isn't that great and at these prices you should get better. if we want to enjoy the weather and scenery along with a nice glass of beer, there really isn't anywhere else to go but here in the battery park area that we live in. the service here... is a hit or miss. we've gotten really great attention from the waiters and we've gotten next to no service before. this place really isn't anything special so if you want great food, you're not going to get it here.

Wanted to take advantage of the beautiful weather so we sat outside. We waited and waited. The waiters saw us but none made the attempt to take our order. After 20 minutes we decided to leave. The same hostess who seated us said "thank you". ?????? Seriously?

Went there several days ago. Food was terrible and restaurant was very noisy and stressful. I will never go back there.

I like the shrimp salad and sitting outside on the water- I think that the food is kind of mediocre, especially considering the name of the place. I don't love how you have no choice but to order everything a la carte- and how there are very few healthy alternatives on the menu other than a steak (yes, steak is healthy).

  • Heather M.

great views! the seating outside is what really made this meal enjoyable. the food was good also. this is a nice place to go with friends who are out of town and want to see the WTC. we got the tater tots, pulled pork sandwich, spinach/artichoke dip, and sliders. it was all average, nothing really impressive.

atrocious service and inconsistent food/drinks. the only plus is the beautiful outdoor seating overlooking the water. *****Pssssst...single ladies...there were ishloads of bankers and finance dudes there for happy hour...STRATEGIZE.*****

The food is like a half step up from TGI Fridays. Yet the prices would almost indicate a four star restaurant. A cobb salad a, plain hamburger with french fries cost me $42. I guess what you're really paying for is the view. Here's a helpful tip, go to Whole Foods across the street bring it back to right around PJ Clarke's is located and you'll find plenty of seating everywhere else around the Hudson. I'm never going back, unless you're planning on paying for me.

The most interesting place to eat in WFC, its close to the water, if you come here during the day try getting an outside table during summer time, the atmosphere is nice and the food is not bad, but I must admit ive only had the crab cakes (and some finger foods from friends plates). I used to work in this building and when happy hour begins the place fills up with bankers that go for the atmosphere, drinks, and to mingle a bit after a long days work.

It's just a restaurant that serves over-priced, not that good bar food with a view of the Hudson. Why did I come here?!?!?!

Everyone that goes here likes it! Mainly because it's in a building with a lot of offices that like to drink after work, and they're lucky to have a place that also serves great food.

Went here for my companys after party holiday party. Ive gone through WFC so many times before and never thought to step inside this place. Its huge! I can imagine during the spring or summer the views are awesome, as of now sitting near the window means catching a chill. Service was very attentive, I had snacked on coworkers french frires- they were tasty. Only thing i would change about this place, please offer hot water when you wash your hands, the water was fffrrrrreeezzzziiinnngggg!!! Aside from that I had a good time

I've been here two times as a result of a business xmas party. Getting there is a bit of a pain if you dont know the area. You probably have to walk about 4 blocks from the train station - Chambers and then go through a building that houses the restaurant. (including an escalator). Aside from the mission to get there, the bar/restaurant itself is pretty cozy. The first thing you see is the bar area with two separate bars (separation allowing the wait staff to traffic in and out behind the counter). Their h'dourves consisted of fried chips, miniature spring rolls, wee burgers and some form of fried fish bon-bons. Since I knew the wee burgers would be a chore to eat with trying to maintain the lipstick, I opted out but noticed that the wee burgers were the favorite among my coworkers. The spring rolls were good, spicy to some people and the fish roll thingys were really horrible. It seemed that it was fish mixed in with tartare sauce and some other spice. Then the party offered a buffet style of baked chicken, pasta, beef and string beans. I chose the baked chicken with pasta and salad. Salad was mediocore, mostly lettuce with shredded cheese on it, the baked chicken was soft and moist but kind of bland. The pasta was just pasta, good enough to fill you up but not horrible or bland. After dinner was the dessert style buffet where they offered coffee and a variety of cookies/pastries. Pastries were okay, nothing to rave about but the coffee was really good. Overall, PJ Clarke's is a good place to host a party of about 200 people that will cater to all types of palattes. The dance area is good size area and the wait staff was really nice. I just have to come here on my own for a real burger and fries during the summertime.

Overall, it excels with standard food. The glorified pub food isn't worth the price as there's more creative dining options in the area--though a nice river view will make your visit worthwhile.

Went all the way downtown to enjoy the nice weather and view.. Food wasn't great. Calamari=not good, Shepherd's pie= mediocre, Chicken Pot pie= not good, steak= ok. the red sangria was wayy too watered down and full of ice! Drinks overall was horrible! Service was below par... Would not go back for the food...atmosphere was pretty romantic...

I wouldn't go to World Financial Center to go there but if I were in World Financial Center, I'd go there. Decent beers and outdoor seating by the water. The food is your typical bar food, and the indoor area has a nice feel. Great for after work drinks if you're in the area.

Trekking through Battery Park City on a Sunday night, looking for a decent place to eat, this place was an oasis in the desert! Our waiter, Nathan, was charming and cute! Definitely worth the flirt time invested. He recommended I start off with a Grey Goose dirty martini, so I gushed like a school girl, and said he had me at "dirty." But, I must say that I didn't care for the "dirty" part of the drink. I didn't stay true to my aversion of olives. Oh, well. Lesson learned, no? My friend, Grace, and I ordered the same Sunday night Meatloaf special. But, for some reason, hers came with the intended BBQ sauce and mine didn't. Good thing, because I would have needed to scrape mine off. But, the meat was delicious and the mashed potatoes were lovely and hot! I even asked Nathan for a side of bearnaise sauce which I used with both the meatloaf and the mashed potatoes. Inspiration on my part, I must say. Grace also ordered a side of calamari, but didn't make much of a dent. I think that says something about the calamari but I'm not positive. I don't consider this restaurant upscale, but a decent pub-like place, with something for everyone, as long as you like meat! There's also a raw bar and plenty of seafood selections. Factoids: They deliver and the kitchen closes at 10:00pm. The raw shellfish isn't available for home delivery. The portions are huge, and an extra meal from leftovers is imminently possible. Bill: For a soda, appetizer and entree, plus tip: $37.00. I wouldn't bother with the appetizer, personally speaking.

i'm surprised i haven't written a review for PJ clarkes yet since this is only 1 of 5 places to go in WFC. i got the lunch special today which was three pulled pork sliders and a bowl of black bean soup. it was like $14. here are a couple things to note about PJC. 1. the only people that come here are tourists and those working in WFC on business accounts 2. which means, food here is so ridiculously overpriced that you can't help but laugh at it. $14 for a buffalo chicken sandwich, which is bread, and a chicken cutlet with orange sauce on it? seriously? oh wait, it comes with fries. Nothing else does. So what will a cheeseburger and fries cost you here? about $18. 3. in the summer time its nice cause you can drink outside. its only nice when the company is paying for it. the one in midtown is 40x better.

The location of this restaurant is great when the whether is nice out. There is a ton of outdoor seating. We wanted to sit as close to the water as possible so we sat alongside the fountain-type thing there --- not such a good idea when its windy! We ended up get spritzed throughout our meal. Every $.75 oyster special is great! Had the skirt steak and it was perfectly cooked and delicious! Overall the prices are a little expensive and this is definitely not conveniently located as it is so far downtown. If I was in the area, I would go back again.

went walking around battery park on a nice day and saw some great outdoor seating. stopped by and grabbed the calamari, which were cut up parts of the ring and unseasoned. the burger was on a dinner roll, one of the worse burgers i've ever eaten. definitely not going back.

Ehhhh that is all I can say about this food. I've been here on 2 occasions hoping the first was a fluke but no such luck. The buffalo chicken sandwich was pretty lousy - the roll was super bready that it's basically all you could taste. The chicken itself was blah (it was dry) so you had to drench it with blue cheese. The fries taste like normal frozen french fries - McDonald's beats out P.J.'s any day of the week!

Came here for happy hour for the dollar oysters and a few drinks. The oysters were pretty much the same as other dollar oyster spots littered around the city, but they are restricted to happy hour times only. You can't complain considering the location of PJ Clarke's. I have to say they are cleaned exceptionally well here however. We also ordered their Crab Cake, which was definitely very well done and loaded with tons of crab meat and seasoned very well.

Relaxing spot for drinks after work, especially when you sit in their al fresco area by the Hudson. Typically order their oysters and raw bar sampler, crab cake, burger, mini cheeseburgers. It's either here or Southwest for after work drinks at the WFC... and I prefer the stuff (raw bar!) here.

Scale of 1-10: Food: 6 Service: 6 Atmosphere: 7 Dinner for 2 people (including tax and tip): $60 Favorite dish: Turkey burger Pros: -Best turkey burger in the city -Diverse offering of comfort foods -Great views of Battery Park City and NY Harbor -Outdoor seating in the summertime right near the water -Cool place to just sit and hang out if you're inclined to hanging out in BPC -Nice place to have brunch on the weekends Cons: -Location not convenient if you don't live or work in Battery Park City -Besides the turkey burger the rest of their food is so-so, not bad but not great either -Most of their dishes are no frills so for example if you order a hamburger you will get a beef pattie between two buns as your entire meal unless you order toppings and sides to go with it -Closes early for a restaurant that's known for its bar scene -Gets loud when the yuppies from Merrill Lynch hit happy hour, but that's happening less and less these days

I live in BPC so I've been here a couple of times. The view is, of course, amazing but the food is nothing but mediocre for the price. NEVER order skirt steak here. I've had it twice, and both times I was served a small chunk of burnt coal, not real steak. Southwest NY, five doors away, is a much better alternative. But if you insist... come here for drinks, not for real meals.

The location i.e., the view, is GREAT. Food is not objectionable and the drinks were good. If you are tourist, walking down the Esplanade along the Hudson River or visiting the World Financial Center [ flickr.com/photos/paulpa… ], this is a great location for a brunch, lunch, snack or dinner.

Not sure what the appeal is. The food is over priced and mediocre at best. The service is slow or non-existent. We have been twice, once for dinner, the other time for brunch. I would put the food below New York pub standards, which is a shame as this is the closest thing to a pub in Battery Park. Good thing O'Hara's is right across the West Side Highway. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Love the place. Live in JC and often take the ferry over. They make a GREAT 1947 and the mile high shrimp sandwich is YUMMI. Was there 3x and the service was always great, friendly and did not feel rushed. Great view and location for a sunny day. Give it a try!

The reason for the very low review -- A Mojito costs $23.60! Was not advised beforehand, asked for a drink menu and was only told the names of the drinks so selected a Mojito - actually two. A Margarita was $12. - what the heck could cause the difference in the price? -- of a MIXED drink? - you know they didn't use top shelf rum. When we protested they knocked off 9.60 (wth?) We asked why the high cost and we were told it was because "it was a popular drink". Huh?? It's popular so you royally rip off the patrons? And I'm a New Yorker, so TOURISTS BEWARE. BTW, The 21 Club only charges $14 for a top grade rum Mojito.

Disgusting! One of the worst restaurants in Manhattan! Seriously, save the $ and go to McDonalds. You will have much better food. I went for brunch with friends and ordered the cinnamon french toast with strawberries and bananas. There were no bananas, one strawberry, and the bread was a gross blob of dough. My other friend ordered the same thing, and was equally disgusted, as were all of my friend. Another friend ordered an omelet, which wasn't even made from real eggs and came with burnt toast. And, my last friend just got fries. He was the happiest, though his fries couldn't even compare with McDonalds. And they add an 18% automatic gratuity to your order. And they charge for soft drink refills.

The burger was less than mediocre, and the grease destroyed the disgusting dollar-bin bun. The waitress spilled water all over both of our feet, and then proceeded to ignore us for a 1/2 hour after all plates had been cleared. I will NEVER go here again. The view does not make up for the bad food and bad service.

What a great place for some drinks and dinner after work -- especially in the summer. Attentive waitstaff, great menu, immaculately prepared drinks and did I mention... OYSTERS. I love oysters and there is something extra special about being able to enjoy them in a restaurant that overlooks the water. I can't think of any place in Manhattan that brings it all together with as much gusto as P.J. Clarke's. My waiter suggested my oysters which were called Pine Island and they were absolutely fantastic. You have to check this place out.

The location for this place is awesome. I went on a hot Sunday afternoon, The view of the boats, water and from a distance you can see the Statue of Liberty. When you're eating outdoors you are practically right under the Freedom Tower. Your surrounded by so much history, it's amazing. The food was good, I had a turkey with swiss, bacon and red peppers. Fries are separate. A little pricey, but decent. The service was wonderful. Everyone was so attentive and pleasant. I would love to go back on a cooler day so I can sit outdoors and enjoy the breeze.

PJ Clarke's is located on a prime prime piece of real estate. We went on a gorgeous spring day which made the experience feel magical. The food at PJs is delicious. Our waitress was kind. The cons included the long wait for appetizers..which was raw bar and didn't need to be cooked. Also, we were not informed in advance of the 8pm last call due to a lack of ingredients in the kitchen. I believe a restaurant should offer what it is capable of providing. If the kitchen is small, they should not offer seating that they cannot accomodate. Needless to say, I will surely be coming back because once the food did come it was spectacular and the views are stunning.

  • Jamie C.

PJ Clarke's on the Hudson left us all feeling neglected. Let's start with its pros: a fantastic location, with amazing views of the Statue of Liberty and the sea front. Cons: the place is SORELY understaffed and LOOOONG WAITS -- 40-60 minutes before appetizers? For real? It really bummed us all out. If you value your time, do not go here -- Shake Shake Battery Park does everything these guys do better, faster and will leave you feeling much happier than PJ Clarke's on the Hudson.

  • Vivian L.

Had a pretty "meh" experience here. Came here for lunch with my co-workers, mainly because we wanted to take advantage of the gorgeous weather and there was outdoor seating available here, where you have a great view of the water. You can see all the way across to Jersey from here =). Lots of people had the same idea, and the outdoor area was packed. What made the experience a little less enjoyable was the wait. We had to wait practically half an hour after ordering before we got our food, and this was after we told the waiter to inform the kitchen to speed up our food since a bunch of us had meetings they had to run to right after lunch. During the wait, we tried to catch our waiter's eye on numerous occasions to ask him about the absence of our food, but sadly, he turned a blind eye. Maybe they're not used to dealing with both outdoor and in-door seating? I'll cut them a little bit of slack for that, but still..service was definitely not optimal. Don't come here if you're in any sort of rush. I ordered the chicken pot pie which was fine, but definitely nothing in comparison to the chicken pot pie from Marie Callendar's, even of the frozen variety =P. Pretty much everyone in my group ordered burgers, so I gather that's what tends to be popular here? I did enjoy the tater tots we had, which come with a delicious hot and smokey ketchup. I was sad that they gave us so few though. Decent food but overall the place was forgettable.

Okay, so lets be honest. The location for this PJ Clarke's is the best you're going to find. It really is lovely being able to sit outside right next to the boats and on the water. You're obviously not going to find too many places like that in New York. I think that this is an average place and if it wasn't for the view, I really wouldn't have given it 2 stars. PJ Clarkes is famous for their burgers, so I went with that topped with blue cheese. We also got an order of onion strings, french fries and the mac and cheese for the table. I read that the mac and cheese was good and it did not disappoint. I think its crazy they don't give you fries with your burger and you have to order them extra. (or you can get three mini burgers with fries for like $20) My burger was fine, cooked the way I wanted...but I wish the bun was better. It just kept breaking, not to mention they gave us the smallest plates to eat the burger on. My brother got 4 different toppings on his burger so it ended up being a really messy experience. I know thats a random compliant, but it really did make it difficult to eat. Overall, it's okay. Great location and decent food. I would say stop by if you're looking to eat right on the water...but lets be real, out of all the millions of great restaurants in New York it's difficult to rate this as anything less then average.

  • Lee L.

Don't bring vegetarians here! There is pretty much nothing for them other than tater tots and $17 Mac & Cheese (they can take out the bacon). Even the spinach and artichoke dip has chicken broth and is a no go, and all the entree salads have meat (there is a $10 side caesar I suppose). Ok, so now that your party consists of only meat-eaters and drinkers, PJ Clarke's is by default one of the better Battery Park City late night options -- because Shake Shack closes earlier and there really isn't much else around if you are too lazy to head up to Tribeca. That's often the case, since I only find myself in this neighborhood when my GS buddies are too beat on a Friday night to go anywhere. For South Beach compliance, get a steak if you are willing to spend $30, or dismantle a burger if you only want to drop $10. At least you won't be tempted by any starchy fries or other carb-laden sides... it doesn't come with any!

Came here on a visit to NY several months back. I had the worst turkey burger of my life here. I will not be back to this location or another PJ Clarke's. The turkey burger was plain, didn't come with any sides, and was not cooked well done throughout. It had some spots that weren't cooked through. Who eats turkey that is not well done?! For over $10, I would expect a side of fries, veggies, or something. The burger came plain without any sauce or toppings. A friend passed me the toppings from their sandwich and the turkey burger was still disgusting. Service sucked as well. The only thing positive was they have nice outdoor seating. My burger after tax and tip came out to $14. What a rip off!

  • Anastacia S.

I'm not really a fan of PJ Clarke's on the Hudson, but you don't have a ton of options in this area so... The food is okay, overpriced for what it is. The happy hour scene is good, it gets really crowded but has a lot of energy and they serve buckets of beer. Best dish - the lobster roll, hands down. I would not go out of my way to come here but if I am down in Battery Park City it's one of the better (and only) choices. And if you are looking to meet a Goldman man, this is a great spot - it's definitely a pick up locale.

I'm ashamed to say that we were reeled in by the location and the beautiful view. For appetizer, we had the hummus dish. It was pretty good. Things seemed promising. For entrees, we ordered fish tacos (don't come with anything) and one of their special burgers sub veggie burger sub salad for french fries. Pretty standard substitutions, I thought.Turns out my request to sub salad miffed the chef and my veggie burger was an even bigger problem. I did not argue or get silly when I was told my salad might be an issue and that there would need to be chef approval or when the meal came out wrong and it was explained that they had to secretly do the burger or when I was overcharged when they brought the check or when my husband said the burger dressing tasted like a "public restroom smells." The thing that really pushed me over into wanting to write this review was when the manager came out to explain to me why my requests were such problems for the "chefs" whose reputations are on the line. I can understand and appreciate the need to practice your art, but I'm not sure that the best venue for that is an overpriced TGI Fridays where people order fish tacos and burgers. Furthermore, I'm pretty sure that part of the art is about working within the medium provided. When my veggie burger finally came out, it looked just as nice as all the beef ones. The food turned out to be very mediocre and the meal cost almost $70 for just a hummus appetizer, 3 fishy fish tacos, burger, and a side salad. We didn't order any alcohol and the place charged $3.50 for my soda water. If that wasn't enough, i walked passed the kitchen to the bathroom and it might as well have been a Waffle House. Long story short, the only thing "Manhattan" about this restaurant was the expense and pretentious chefs. I'm so bummed we didn't come on yelp first.

  • Jim U.

P J Clarke's is likable enough. It looks like a TGI Friday's, but it sits in the World Financial Center just off of the Hudson river, so the clientele is a bit different. The location is huge! After walking past a very long bar which was filled three people deep with suits, we arrived at the dining section of the restaurant which was taken over by parents and toddlers in booster seats. Not many places balance their image between corporate bar and family friendly so well. A quick look at the menu suggested that the strong points were fresh seafood and burgers. As such, we opted to begin with a serving of Blue Point oysters (6 for $12), which I followed up with by having the lobster roll ($24). The oysters were huge and delicious -- very fresh and what a great value! They were served with lemon wedges, horseradish, ketchup?, and oyster crackers. The lobster roll though was more of a mixed bag. It was served untraditionally on an open-faced, toasted baguette. The baguette was draped with a large lettuce leaf and topped with large chunks of lobster. To the side, there was a small serving of cole slaw and a pail of dark brown kettle chops. The lobster itself was only so good. It could have been fresher, and there was no hint of flavoring, so it stood on its own not really holding up to scrutiny. The bread was overly toasted which I think might have worked for a po' boy, but not a lobster roll. The lettuce was superfluous. It's okay, but a much better roll can be had at Red Hook Lobster Pound for the same price or at Luke's for $8 less. The chips were pretty tasty though. Overall, P J Clarke's is good for inexpensive oysters, and probably having a burger and a beer. In that regard, it is one of the better places in the Battery Park City neighborhood to visit.

Overpriced and a huge waste of calories and fat intake! Beer - fine, avg priced, can't complain Food - terrible Fried calamari was absolutely tasteless, probably the worst I've ever had. Pigs in blanket - okay Turkey burger - ok but the best part about it was the cranberry relish Fries - bad Sweet potato fries - soggy, bland, blah Didn't try my friends' sliders or the corned beef sandwich, but the corned beef sandwich in particular looked so skimpy. You could the same sandwich from a good place like Katz or 2nd Avenue deli twice the size and for the same price.

Is there a way to give zero stars? I hadn't eaten lunch, and decided to come by here after work, and have some dinner and a beer. Never again. I could tell that the problems were starting when I sat down at the bar, and it took a good 5-8 minutes for someone to acknowledge that someone had, in fact, just sat down and likely wanted something to drink and/or eat. Put my drink order in, got that relatively quickly. Then I got my food. I ordered a burger medium, and there was blood oozing out of it! I realize that people's definitions differ, but that struck me as more medium-rare. Not a big deal, I'm not creeped out by that or anything, so I ate it (and it was actually pretty good, but not worth $13 for a bacon cheeseburger on a bun that falls apart, and no fries - they were an extra $6 or so). You read that right, burger and fries (no drinks yet!) for $19. I can do better than that at Shake Shack across the street for a much better product. Fast forward to being done with the overpriced burger, and my drink was almost empty. I sort of left it there for a bit, perfectly visible to the bartender (who I was expecting to ask me if I wanted another - no such luck). Finish the drink, sit there for awhile with no food or drink of any kind in front of me, watching soccer on the broken TV in front of me. Eventually get the bartender's attention and told him that I'd like another beer - then he disappears, I assume to go get my beer. Not so fast! He comes back by several times, doing this or that or the other, pretending that I don't exist. Then he disappears again, and I see him down at the end of the bar rearranging glasses or something - I cast a menacing glance down in that direction, and he then goes and puts beer in a glass and brings it to me!!!! How nice. In the end, this wound up being one of very few times that I've stiffed someone of a decent tip - I calculated exactly 15% of the before tax bill (I normally do my 20% calculation roughly on the after tax bill), and rounded up to the nearest dollar (it was only $0.04 more, so I don't feel I lost a lot there!). I felt the need to send the message that this was just completely unacceptable.

Ok - not great Atmosphere is the best selling point. I like the 50's American feel right on the water. Food is OK but over-priced for just 'ok'. Margaritas are good to try...always seems to be a crowd. I think this place is good for after work drinks only. I wouldn't dine there again.

Was walking through Battery Park City one afternoon with my girlfriend. Decided to go here and get drinks and sit outside and enjoy the weather. Was told after we had sat that we had to order food. It's a slow Saturday afternoon with barely half the tables occupied and we have to order food? I could understand that policy on a crowded evening after work, but it's a little absurd when your restaurant and outdoor seating was as empty as it was.

Note: I think the pointer on the map location for this place is wrong, it's farther west, right on the water. Yeah, so it's not Daniel or Per Se, but it's great for what it is. Amazing location, great outdoor seating that we didn't even wait 2 minutes for, and the best Turkey Burger I've ever had in my life. Seriously. It's hard to make a turkey burger exciting, but this one is. Oh and try the creamed spinach. Go when the weather is good and sit outside, otherwise the inside is a little blah (full of bankers and rowdy men watching sports... how charming). P.S. who are these people complaining about a 9$ hamburger? This is a sit-down restaurant on the water front in Manhattan - you are obviously going to pay a premium for the location. If you want a $1 burger then go to Burger King!

Decent, overpriced food. I tried a few things - mac and cheese, short rib spring rolls, chicken sandwich. Nothing spectacular. The mac and cheese was particularly disappointing - runny and not creamy. The short rib spring rolls app was tasty though. Prices are about 30 to 50% higher than what they should be for a place like this. Yes, it's better than "bar food" but sill not worth the premium. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was comfortable. Didn't have to wait for a table at all. The bar area was doing well - I assume it was an after work crowd. I'd probably only go back here if they had a special deal or everything else in the area was closed.

I work upstairs from here--literally. I don't need to say it's Wall Street-y...this is easily summarized by what one of my coworkers said, "you know you're in the Financial District when a bar has CNBC on TV during happy hour" Drinks are a bit expensive. No, they don't have a happy hour, since most of us come to drink on the Shareholder's tab (that's a joke. It's a corporate Amex.) I think beers run about $6-8 and cocktails $9-10. The food is decent (I've had their chopped chicken salad twice and sampled some of the appetizers.) The outdoor space is nice because you have a clear view of the Statue of Liberty. Plus the ferry goes off the end of the pier. I cannot stress enough that post-5pm...it's 99% Finance people out for Happy Hour. If that's not your thing.....why the hell are you in the World Fi center to drink anyway?\ See you at 4:45, PJ's.

I enjoyed a business lunch here with a long time friend this past week. The ambiance, food and service were all equally terrific. We sat in the outside section and managed to snag a table right next to the reflection pond. We were in the shade and the breeze off of the river helped to cut the humidity. We even got to enjoy the company of an occasional duck that swam up to tables to beg for food (he didn't get lucky). We went the shared appetizer route and enjoyed their Rhode Island style calamari and the Mezze plate. The calamari was perfectly fried and then drained before serving so that it was not abundantly greasy. The Rhode Island style added some welcomed heat to the seasoning. But the jewel was the Mezze plate. A combination of some vegetable purees, olives and grilled pita bread. A perfect sharing platter. The yummiest item - carrot and cumin puree. For those in doubt, give it a try. Lastly, a great shout out to our friendly server. I sadly, do not recall your name...but your Irish accent and sincere efforts were all so greatly appreciated by my lovely lunch guest and I.

Entered PJ Clarke's the past Friday before the Tribeca Film Festival's 'Drive-In' Outdoor showing of BeetleJuice - I know, awesome :) Having just left work I wanted to go straight to Brookfield Place and scope out seating for the movie. I realized I was starving , PJ Clarke's is just about the closest restaurant so we ducked in to grab a bite. It's way bigger than I expected. Host & servers were very friendly/attentive even though they were getting slammed (after work crowd and outdoor movie goers). We were seated immediately! I think it's crucial to note that depending on what you order here you may be pleasantly surprised or sourly disappointed. I ordered the Turkey Club - effing delicious. One of the best clubs I've had in a LONG time. Here's why - TURKEY (free range, juicy, nicely flavored) BREAD (perfectly toasted, chewy, fresh) MAYO (smoky, possibly house made, just the right amount) BACON (crispy, thick cut - all I need from my bacon) lettuce and tomato. I was happy. Drinks were over-priced but they were there if that counts for anything at the end of a long work week. Cheesecake for dessert was 'New York- Style' and satisfying. My suggestion - do a quick scan of reviews before ordering from their menu. I'd suggest the Turkey Club and cheesecake. I've heard some good things about the mussels. Chances are that if you're over at this location it's for a reason and there aren't that many dining options available. You've been warned :)

It's an OK after work spot. It is EXTREMELY loud though, so we had to eat outside just to hear each other, even though it was cold. The wait staff is very attentive, but not annoying. The margaritas are potent (this I like!) and the food was decent. I had fish and chips. You get two HUGE pieces of fish and regular shoe string fries. The fries are slightly seasoned, but the fish has absolutely no seasoning at all--not even salt and pepper. Two drinks, along with fish and chips with a modest tip was a little over $50. There are much cheaper places to get the same type of food and service.

I'm kind of surprised by all the bad reviews for PJ Clarkes. I ate here recently on a whim and didn't have very high expectations. We were showing around a guest from Japan and after walking around FiDi my boyfriend suggested we eat here. We were starving and tired and I'm always down for a burger so I agreed although I really wanted to find something a little less chain-y. I got the Cadillac burger and enjoyed it. It wasn't the best burger ever but it was still very good. We also got the sweet potato fries which were great. They tasted like the sweet potatoes covered in maple syrup and marshmallows you have for Thanksgiving. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. Service was alright, nothing special. Atmosphere was nice for the out of towner since it's classic vintage American and has a good view of the Statue of Liberty. The rest of the menu looked good (although kind of expensive) so I would probably go back to try some other things if invited but maybe wouldn't go out of my way to eat here.

Great service from our waiter. We needed to customize an all-vegetable dish and they delivered a great raw salad - really impressed with the simple flavor and variety (even though this type of dish is NOT their focus). Also - Mini burgers & fries were great (as expected)!

Food is good, but overpriced. Not great atmosphere, but with good views. I would give it a 3.5 if possible. This place has a slamming burger. Actually, there are a number of fairly tasty items. I actually had devilled eggs (DONT MAKE FUN OF ME!!!) and they were really good. The server was super friendly and chatty, and we heard all about her life story (in a nice, unassuming way---not annoying). The problem was the fact that it was pretty overpriced for what it really was. And I agree with what someone said before stating its Wall Street D-Baggery. That is pretty astute. There is a good layout, though. Definitely potential for groups, as well as signficant patio seating with views of Lady Liberty. Also, there is a significant alcohol list as well. So it could be fun for a group happy hour.

Awesome view, perfect evening. Mediocre burger, and Worst. Service. Ever. in NYC. I can't believe New Yorkers put up with this nonsense. Over an hour from sitdown to service - for three burgers and some ice-cold fries. If the sunset hadn't been so gorgeous we would have walked. If you go - go on a day when the view is great. But better still, sit in the park in front of it, enjoy the view, and then go and eat someplace good.

Decent burger but overpriced * better deal is on weekdays for the $10 burger and fries. Burger is very solid and fries are good. But no match for nearby Shake Shack's $4 cheeseburgers. * on weekends it's $16 for burger and a little more fries, overpriced * parmesan tater tots nothing special for $7 and portion should be bigger for that price

4.5/5 stars for me here. I recently came here on a summer afternoon, post work, mid-week. I've worked in World Financial for a few years now and re-located across the west side highway. I must admit, I really miss this place. The outdoor set-up is incredible. It is literally right on the waterfront, and it is the only place to grab food or just drinks. We were a group of 11, so I was worried there wouldn't be enough room. Luckily, we were there before 4pm, so we pushed together a few tables. By the time we left, there was a wait to get a table outside. This PJ Clarkes is the same as the original on 55th and 3rd and also the 3rd outpost, which is by Lincoln Center. They are known for their raw bar and so we ordered a whole platter of oysters and shrimp. We also ordered the steak nachos, which were a special for the day. A hummus plate with some pita and vegetables and that was it. Enough to go around for the tables while we sat and relaxed outside. The service was impeccable and our waitress even made iced coffee for the table. I will most certainly be back here when I am close by again. I would suggest making a reservation or prepare to wait for outdoor seating. If you want to stand outside without eating, they have tables for cocktails, so that should suit you. Until next time....

Went here for a lunch recently and definitely enjoyed my meal. PJ Clarke's is a classic so you know you're getting good quality American food. They recently changed their menu and is a bit pricier than before. The hot peppers calamari s DEELISH! Great take on a traditional appetizer. We ordered a plain one as well but requested some hot peppers on the side to mix it up, they were too good to pass! I had the swordfish with thyme butter and asparagus. The portion sizes were very big and since it was lunchtime I was pretty stuffed. I was pleased with my swordfish though. I actually have never had it before but had wanted something clean, light and fresh tasting. That was exactly what I got. Definitely was stuffed to the brim at the end. We ordered dessert after. My friend loved the bread pudding and another friend said it was the best apple cobbler she had. Good to know! I had the pumpkin pie with cinnamon whipped cream. Couldn't finish it but it was pretty good (nothing to write home about). Next time I go back I'll try the cobbler. It's a bit on the pricier side but convenient for those who work in the Financial Center. Service was good and quick. Was very pleased.

I'm not changing their star rating, but I came here today and was SO SAD that they no longer have the little pigs in a blanket ("hot doggies"). I walked four miles. Up a hill. In the snow. With no backpack for those. (No, not really. I walked fifteen minutes, along the Hudson, in the sun, with one of my best friends) for those. I was crushed when the bartender told me that they had taken them off of the menu though! Mr. Clarke, we need to talk! Those were the only things I ever wanted! Anyway, since I had written about the hot doggies in my first review of this place, I figured I'd give you all an update. On another note, if you need hot doggies in the area, go to Trinity Place Bar & Restaurant.

I went here with a group of 10 on a Friday night. We were celebrating my friend's performance, and this was the only open restaurant in the area that we could find. First, the host seated us right next to a door that the waitstaff kept opening and closing to access the patio. Given that it was a chilly and windy night, our menus would blow over every time someone opened the door. Luckily, the restaurant was half empty, and the host was able to seat us somewhere else. When I looked at the menu, I was already annoyed. I can't remember a sandwich that cost less than $15, and none of the sandwiches come with fries. Your sandwich order comes with a tiny cup of cole slaw and a pickle. Also, I'm a vegetarian. Despite the lengthy menu, I only found one or two things that I could eat. Thank goodness for beer because the whole experience was very stressful and uncomfortable. All my friends were secretly complaining about the prices, but they didn't want to offend the girl whose performance we were celebrating. At least 8 of the 10 guests complained about their food or mentioned something negative about the food to the waitstaff. The grilled vegetable sandwich that I ordered was served on stale bread. My friend who ordered French onion soup could not get through the rock-hard cheese without a steak knife (he felt ill afterward and the next day). My friend who ordered a medium-well cheeseburger sent it back because it was cooked raw. My friend who ordered a steak was very pleasantly surprised that she could cut the steak without too much effort - until she realized that the steak had the consistency of ground beef. I can't believe they won't even throw some fries on a plate with a hamburger or sandwich. You have to order fries separately (about $7 I think), and they taste exactly like McDonald's French fries. For my stale vegetable sandwich, two Blue Moons, and part of my friend's bill (we all offered to cover the bill of the friend we were honoring), I spent $38. What a waste. DO NOT EVER GO HERE IF YOU PLAN TO EAT. Drinking here is fine. Eating here is not.

The niceness of the place makes up for the sort of boring food. This place has tons of tables outside under plane trees and next to the lower west side boat basin. The service was great and we were able to score a table for three adults and one 2 year old in a stroller. Our 2 year old is a picky eater but he loved the onion rings and burgers and the hot apple tart with ice cream. The food was not bad but the scene was terrific.

Hmmm...my office mates like this place. Mainly because they have bar food and strong drinks readily available. My makers and ginger was more makers than ginger, which is why this is 3-stars. I am not a fan of their artichoke dip because they leave a lot of the tougher leaves in the dip and you tend to chew a lot. Which is fine if I'm having a salad. This ain't no salad. The calamari is greasy, but plentiful and their sweet potato fries are alright I guess. It is what it is.

In other words....why? I was dog-sitting in the neighborhood, hubby and I decided to grab a snack and maybe a drink. A place with a name like PJ Clarke, you'd think it would be plentiful on either count. Turns out their bar/snack foods were limited...tried to order wings and they were out. Um, WTH? It wasn't like it was 2 am...it was freaking 3:30 pm, if that. How does an Irish bar run out of wings??? Our beer was ok - I mean, it's hard to mess it up but for the price it should be frothy from the draft - the beer was so flat it should have been renamed a carpenter's dream. There's one in my neighborhood that is a stone's throw away but honestly...it's not worth my time or effort. That's how bad an impression this place left on me. Later.

Working in the World Financial Center has it's perks. Not sure PJ Clarkes is one of them. I won't bury them but, I'll share facts. The service is fast and furios. So, definitely reliable for a quick sit-down during the busy work day. With that, the lunch menu is a tinge over-priced. I orderd the third ave. shrimp salad that was fresh and enjoyably packed with shrimp. Though I'm not sure it was worth all of $25 dollars. My lunch companion ordered the $20 greek salad which also didn't take her breath away. The parmesean tots that I've had on other occassions was ok. Food was ok but not over the top. Last gripe was the lack of awarenes/timing - whatever verbage suits best. My server kept flinching for the check once he dropped it on the table. He didn't allow a few minutes to pass before he mad dashed over for payment - tacky!!!

Nice place for a happy hour when the weather cooperates, but you pay a premium for the outdoor location. Apps are tasty (love the short rib spring rolls), but service is spotty at best.

Typical. Burger wasn't great. Sliders weren't great. Fries weren't great. Onion strings weren't great. 14 bucks for a bacon cheeseburger without fries was a bit much since it wasn't the best burger I have ever had, or at least not a top 50% burger.

    (2)
  • Michael L.

The only thing impressive is the view. Had their infamous burgers, with swiss cheese and mushrooms with shoe string fries and sweet potato fries. The mushrooms came as whole caps of mushrooms, not even sauteed to a carmelized state, just huge caps, how the hell did they think thats what a mushroom burger was...all the mushrooms fell out due to their round caps. The sweet potato fries were pretty good, as were the shoe string fries. The Meat in the burger was average in the juice factor, below average flavor itself, the ingredients used were above average in terms of lettuce, tomato, pickle, bread, onions which were all very fresh. Judging by the burger alone, which everyone seems to be their best item: a grade or 2 below shake shack. and also 5 napkin. I would not come here looking for a stellar burger, its not. Come here for the view.

I agree with many reviewers below - on being overpriced.. But seriously.. what do we expect in this area? I'll tell you this... I've been down here a few times for office functions (people quitting.. getting sacked... the usual).... and thankfully... all paid for by senior dudes... * The crab-cake - awesome.. really.. it is.... (I will pay for this ....gladly) * Pigs in a blanket.. *homemade? really? Tastes like Costo/BJ's frozen bag to me * Wings - mehhhhhhh...... Frank's Hot Sauce ain't all that...always found it to be too watery * Burgers - OK.... here is where they seem to hit the nail on the head If you aren't aware - they have a "Burger Lunch Special"....that used to be $11 bucks or so.... (Burger.. Fries or chips... soda)... Cheese is extra..... My boss and I got this at least 1x week...... Fries come in a paper bag.... usually crispy/greasy.. the norm... but if not eaten ASAP - you'll regret it... NOTE - When you go down to pick up your burger/lunch order - skip the mob and go straight to the cashier..and inquire about your order - don't stand there with the rest of the people....thinking you are skipping....go ahead.. walk in front of them... like you own the place... they will get over it....otherwise you will stand there and your order will get COLD.... Ok.. as I was saying.... I haven't had this burger/lunch special since last fall - so I need call/check and see if they have raised the price - as I just printed off a new menu - and I see tons of changes/raised prices..... Have heard great things about their turkey burger from many co-workers.... Need to give it a try.... As for regular dinner/lunch items... will update accordingly... if/when I try.... The place is always packed...and being on the water gives it a nice feel - especially in the summer... Not fully SOLD... but eh... I'll go again...

At PJ Clarke's in Battery Park they'll sneak in a $3 charge on the scoop of ice cream that comes with the apple pie. They'll also sneak in a $2 charge for the avocado that comes with the crab cake salad. Both the waitress and manager won't get it that you're not complaining about the price, but about the sneakiness. Oh and the service took forever. They're waitstaff is understaffed.

Stopped by just before noon on a Saturday. Asked the cute hostess if they were still serving breakfast. Answered with a yes and walked away. To my surprise, there were only eggs benedict and a salmon omelette on the menu. Not what I had in mind. Had the eggs benedict which were nothing special given the exorbitant price. I could have stopped by a food cart for an egg sandwich for a 1/8 of the price and been just as satisfied.

It's all about location, location, location. This branch of PJ Clarke's isn't all that - the food is mediocre, the service is hit or miss, but the location is great. Especially the nice outdoor seating. Only go back when I want to sit outside in WFC but want something nicer than Quality Burger.

Good place to relax after work for a few drinks/appetizers, but not much else. Food: 2 Stars The food here is perfect is you love greasy treats. Other than that it is a very hit or miss menu. The calamari is good when made correctly, but more often than not the calamari is rather soggy or rubbery. The specials have changed a bit over the years, but I am happy to see that the fried chicken is currently off the menu. It was rather poorly trimmed and the skin was usually dripping in grease. If the mini-burgers or regular burgers are cooked the way you ask (medium-rare for me) it is one of the better ones I've tasted around the city. It looks as though they use a decent quality meat, but if they overcook it, it tastes like rubber with cheese on it. Anything from the raw bar is one of the few dishes I would recommend. I am not a big fan of clams and mussels, but they provide a fresh selection and a big bottle of Tabasco. You can't go wrong with most of the sides. I would highly recommend the onion strings since it pretty much its onion rings sliced into incredibly long thin strips and deep fried. Unless you really love bubble and squeak avoid it at all costs (I still don't really know whats in it) Drinks: 4 Stars There is a solid drink menu available from beers to mixed drinks. Service: 3 Stars I have been here a few time and I have no real complaints about the service. The place is usually pack for both lunch and dinner. The servers handle their jobs well. Nothing out of the ordinary here. Overall: 2.75 Stars PJ Clarks is a good place to go if you want a fast somewhat greasy meal, but you can find better in a area surrounded by dozens upon dozens of restaurants. You won't have a bad experience or a great experience. It'll end up feeling like just another place you haven eaten at.

PJ Clarke's is often mentioned as one of the top burgers in the city. Maybe it's better at another location, but I was severely disappointed. First by the waiter, who was the definition of snooty. And second by the burger, which was cooked perfectly, but bland in every way. Oh, and this burger had bacon on it. But it was bland. ... I... ...I ate a burger and it had bacon on it and it was bland. I'm sorry for taking up all this space with ellipses and dramatic pauses, but I do not know how it's scientifically possible. I guess the positive is that you're down by the water, but there's plenty of other, less disappointing views out there.

No happy hour here. Maybe it's because it's located in WFC where a bunch of big name banks have office space. Nice view of the water. This place would be great when the weather is warm out. Food is a bit pricey and drinks are standard.

Why the low ratings fellow Yelpers? This place is great! The place is huge yet it manages to stay packed. Whenever my friends in the WFC area are tired and just want to knock a few drinks back with some decent food, we come here. Happy hour specials! How can you be upset with $1 oysters that a pretty good and shucked properly? What's not to like about good ole bar food? =)

Every restaurant can have an off day. This place was having a way off day. But the way they recover and acknowledge their poor service and compensate you for it determines whether it's worth a re-visit or not. We showed up on a Sunday afternoon when it was about half full. We were seated, drink orders were taken and delivered. Then we waited to order. And waited. Then we flagged down our waiter and ordered. An hour and 10 minutes later we asked the waiter to cancel our order and just give us a bill for our drinks. Before he could do that, our food finally arrived. Because we were seated outside and were pretty chilled by then, we ate as fast as we could before our lukewarm food got colder. The manager eventually came by after listening to numerous other customer complaints about long waits, listened patiently to us, then provided our bill which not only had nothing comped, but listed food that hadn't been delivered. Does that sound like a satisfactory way to handle a customer complaint? tl;dr: Waited over an hour for lukewarm food. Complaints went unresolved.

Proper. That is how PJ Clarke's (on the Hudson) comes about everything. The bartenders know what they're talking about. They dress the part, they make excellent drinks, they are a bartender's bartender. You'll be tipping generously and after a second visit you'll be inviting the bartender to your cousin's wedding. Food is better than average for a bar, but it is heavy and sometimes greasy. However, the menu is diverse and they have great oysters and other seafood of that nature. What could be better than sitting outside with eight of your friends drinking beers in early spring? That is, if you find a table. It get's crowded. I love siting at the bar at odd (empty) times and enjoying a conversation with the bartenders. This is New York city at its best.

    (4)
  • Tiffany Y.

My co-workers and I usually come here for drinks (post-work crowd makes indoor and outdoor really crowded). But if you want to sit, you have to order food. This can be frustrating when there is NO ONE in the dining area and the bar area is crowded! I decided to go for dinner one day with my friend. Now that i was a dining customer, I liked that they split off the dining section in the back, but was still a bit cramped and loud. The food is what you'd find at a typical American bar/restaurant. I like the oysters, and got a burger and fries. The fries were ok, other than the fact that they were $4.80 and I thought they would come with my burger, which was almost $10. So... over priced, but granted this is the only place closeby to grab drinks after work, I think we'll still keep coming. **Update: came back another time for dinner and I ordered the chicken pot pie. It arrived cold, so I ended up sending a dish back to the kitchen for the first time ever! When they brought it back, I ended up burning my tongue because it was too hot. :-/

You are paying for location, location, location. The food was nothing to write home and tell anyone about. I got a Caesar salad and I don't think there was any romaine lettuce, I'm pretty sure it was iceberg. The dressing was very bland, the worse Caesar dressing I have had in a while. Extremely overpriced, the view is amazing from the patio and its a good place to people watch. If I ever come again, I would only do drinks and appetizers. If you want good food, go somewhere else, if you want ambiance then this is a decent place.

It's probably because I don't know where to go but there seems to be a dearth of good dining options around the WTC. While PJ Clarke's is a far cry from wonderful, it's certainly acceptable so I'm giving it 3 stars. I've been to this location before but I've never tried the burgers here. I ordered the "Cadillac" (burger w/bacon & cheese) and a side of fries. The burger was much greasier than I would have liked. I felt the grease squirting and coating the insides of my mouth. The bacon was translucent and limp due to the amount of fat in it. Definitely not the best burger I've ever had, but it did satisfy my burger craving and kept me full for the rest of the day. My table also split the spinach & artichoke dip. The dip had a thick layer of baked cheese on top which made the dip part hard to get at. I did love their tortilla chips though - salty and with a sort of buttery flavor (weird, I know, but tasty!). Service was pretty good. They're packed at lunchtime but our waitress managed to refill our sodas pretty quickly. Another waiter appeared with a second cone of tortilla chips without us having to ask. Can't really ask for more. Prices are a little expensive. Burgers are $9 and they don't even come with fries! I guess prices are inflated according to the income of the clientele. Overall, a solid 3 stars considering the lack of acceptable lunch substitutes in the area.
