Love this place. Classic diner food & service. They offer a full bar.

Saw this place on the food network's Dinners, Dives, and Drive Ins. Lemonade pork chops were the featured special. Not really the kind of place that I would do a TV special on. Really not a place that I would go to if I had not seen it on TV. Lemonade pork chops were delicious, but not worth ordering again. Glad I had them though, worth the try. Had the chili... tasted good but had a smell. Worst French fries I have every had. No joke. I would go back to try something else as they had a huge menu and I've heard most of the food is good. It must be because this 24 hour location has not closed it's doors in like 30+ something years. I've heard the gravy is really good. One plus is that I got two chops, chili, fries, salad and a coffee for around$14.

I have been eating here forever. This was one of my favorite places to eat. BUT lately our service and food have gone waaaaay down hill. We used to be able to go in and seat ourselves and get a friendly nice waiter/waitress, and order something awesome from the menu. We have always enjoyed eating there. About a couple months ago we decided to stop eating there all together. I noticed the waitress aren't friendly anymore, they forget we are there. Our food takes forever to come out, and it usually comes out cold. Trying to get refills on drinks are a battle. And the quality of the food is awful. Our last meal was the last straw...my scrambled eggs tasted like rubber, my husband's food was cold like it had been sitting there for awhile. Trying to get the attention of a waitress was impossible. So we just paid and left vowing to not return. I am so disappointed and sad cause this was a place we liked to frequent. I started thinking back and really this past year is when we noticed the change in everything. I really do hope that they will make a change, maybe in time we will try again. But for now I will stay away. :(

I'll start from the beginning. This was our 1st visit. There is a sign that reads Wait to be seated, after waiting a bit a customer told us it was seat yourself, not an employee. We found a table, sat down and waited. The buser came over asked us for our drink order pretty straight forward. The normal pleasantries of " How's your day going? " or " Welcome to ... " were absent. The waitress skip the normal intro as well and just took our order. I ordered the value breakfast; 2 eggs, 2 bacon strips, and 2 pancakes. Jennifer ordered the mushroom and Swiss burger. I was asked how I wanted my eggs, Jennifer was not asked about the burger. Our food was dropped off in a reasonable amount of time. Again niceties were skipped. Nothing to fantastic about my order, but then again it was pretty simple order. Looking for a positive; my eggs were not over done. Jennifer said her burger was over cooked. She normally goes for medium rare. It was medium well done. She also commented that they put sweet pickles on their burgers (just a FYI). To sum it up. Service as a whole a bit lack luster, but not bad enough to keep us from going back. Food was OK but next time we will try something from the "specialty" menu. Might be they only true way to judge the food. If you want to see more about the Gold-N-Silver Inn. You can find a 2010 episode on Dives, Diners, and Drive-ins. I think it aired in August.

The Gold-N-Silver's big claim to fame is that it's been open continuously, 24/7/365, since 1958 or so (I don't remember the exact year, just that it's closer to my parents' age than mine). Which means, I guess, that no matter what time of day or night - even at 3:56 am on Christmas morning - you could swing by for a burger and fries, or maybe a fine clock fashioned out of a slab of wood with a picture of a howling wolf shellacked onto it. Assuming you don't already have one, that is. The Gold-N-Silver is actually a small casino with a coffee shop at the back, although you really just go there for the restaurant. The decor looks like it hasn't been updated since the Nixon administration, with dingy wood paneling, dark carpets, and not even a token attempt at a festive atmosphere. Everything in here is brown except for the slot machines, and if there was a way to cover them in fake wood paneling, I bet they'd be brown too. The coffee shop is likewise from a different era, before neon or themed restaurants. Weirdly high walls (in fake wood paneling, of course) surround the booths, cutting you off from the other diners and giving the place a maze-like feel. Brown continues its iron-fisted rule over the decor, except for the black chandeliers with electric candles that hang from the ceiling. The soft drinks used to come in those horrible amber-colored, pebble-textured plastic cafeteria cups, but it seems they've upgraded to blue since then. The menu is huge, but full of safe diner-style choices: burgers and fries, breakfast, and American-style food. In fact, the selection is a bit overwhelming, especially since the menu features rainbow-colored text and way too much fine print. Choosing a sandwich probably shouldn't be this complicated, but I guess options are good. The food is decent, but not outstanding - it's the ambience I find a bit odd. When my curly fries came, the waitress matter-of-factly plonked down a squeeze bottle of ranch, without being asked (no sense fooling around with an individual-sized cup). My friend got the wrong burger by mistake, but was going to eat it anyway - until the waitress came back with the correct burger and traded plates, though he'd already touched the top bun of the first burger (the top buns got swapped out too). "We don't need to tell anyone about that," she winked, and sailed away with the other burger. The Gold-N-Silver isn't so much skeevy as it is a relic from the distant past - a previous era somewhere around the mid-1960s, where brown could indeed be your complete interior design palette, and before people got so damn fussy about a germ or two on the wrong burger. You wouldn't be surprised if the men wore sport jackets and side parts and the women had beehives and blue eyeshadow, because that's just the kind of place it is. The illusion of time travel is so complete that it is you who will feel out of place, with your rock 'n' roll music and your premarital sex (though your plastic-framed glasses will feel right at home). Eat new food, but touch the old - one is silver and the other's gold.

High quality diner food, reasonably priced, quick service and friendly. Our choices were Tri Tip sandwhiches and lemonade sauce pork chops which were yummy. The tri tip had great grilled flavor, sliced thin, tender, and doused with the Inn's "Mahagony" sauce with grilled onlons all on a fresh roll package. The mashed potatoes with gravy were my favorite side. We will definitely return here.

My relationship with Guy Fieri is like the one I had with George W. Bush. I kind of hate both of them but yet I followed them into the abyss for no reason. My Patty Hearst style hypnosis to Guy brought me to the Gold N Silver Inn in Reno. I was hesitant, I mean Guy has hyped so many places that have gotten a big "meh" from me. Reno is not exactly Paris however, so I figured it was worth a shot for a good meal. Well just like Bush got it right once in awhile, Fieri nailed this one. The place is very, very unassuming. So unassuming, I thought I was at the wrong place. There is no landscaping or windows really...it looks like a non-descript 1970's Soviet style building. Dont expect much inside either, because the place is a time and looks as if it did 40 years ago. Not to fear my Yelpites...this is where the food takes over! The menu was broad, comforting and in a way Ive never seen in a diner...exploratory and exciting. I opted for the Lemonade Pork Chop because I love pork chops and because Guy made me order them. I was impressed that they took a traditional item and attempted to give it their own flavor. I hate the homogenization of our unique American diner cuisine and always look for these rogue offerings. Additionally, there was also a choice of soup or salad and then two sides. The salad just looked average so I ordered their soup of the day Split Pea. It was phenomenal. I got the fries (average) and the chili (above average). As for the pork chops...amazing. I wont tell my mom but they have hers beat. The lemonade sauce gives it a sweat and sour play off the salty tenderness of the meat. It works perfectly. best of all was the price...with drink my bill was like 11 dollars. Where can you get home-cooking at the price anymore? Service was fast and efficient too. The only reason I gave it 4 stars was I felt for such amazing diner entrees, they should take the time to complement it with amazing sides as well. Maybe Guy is onto something. He sure it hit it out of the ballpark on this one. I just hope I don't see a giant "Mission Accomplished" banner behind him on his next show....

Went for lunch yesterday with 9 buds. They seated our party of 10 promptly and got our orders in right away. The variety of dishes ordered were the Tri tip sandwich, and soup & salads. The tri tip sandwiches were loaded with meat and tasty. The homemade bean soup was really good and I loved the bleu cheese salad dressing Cheap prices, large servings. The place could use a little updating but we were all satisfied. The service was good, they didn't mind such a large group.

Tried the lemonade chops because they sounded interesting. The meat was a little dry and the surrounding lemonade batter? slop? goo? was lacking. The fruit cup was mushy, like it had been sitting in citric acid for a week. The salad was definitely dumped out of a bag and I wondered where the garlic in the garlic fries went. My favorite part was their balsamic dressing on the salad, which was somehow delicious. I don't know how Diner's and Dives featured this place. It is definitely a dive, but far from a hidden gem.

A review from a local who's been there several times, not a drunk tourist who "HAD TO GO THERE" because they watched a TV show: (for Yelp regulars on my reviews)--I know my "three and 1/2 star" litany is getting tiresome, but I'm torn here. I cannot bring myself to go four stars, but it's got its charm, the late night hours are great, and the food has been pretty good at times. The variety of the menu is a definite plus. I think I usually piss the waitresses off, because with about 50 million possible side orders, if I'm having a lunch combo I have to really hunker down and decide. It's OK though, since the waitresses aren't exactly Princesses of Charm School as everyone here has already pointed out, so nothing can make 'em any more crotchety. Part of the Reno charm right? I will say the last meal I had there was verging on four stars. We both had eggs benedict--mine was with artichoke hearts and had some cutesy name, hers was with spinach and hence a Florentine. Both were very good, perfectly poached eggs and fresh tasting veggies. I would have preferred a slightly less cheesy hollandaise sauce, but that's just my quirkiness talking--the sauce worked fine in the dish. Potatoes (home fries) were snappy fresh but I'd probably opt for the hash browns next time, since they didn't include peppers, onions, or any discernible ingredients besides potato and spices. Again, just me, but I like my home fries loaded with garlic, or some kind of veggies to provide a good mix. They did have Tapatio rather than just Tabasco which was a definite plus. The waitress offered some salsa, which came in little paper cups and had a funny refrigerated taste. I'd pass on Mexican dishes If this is what they include with the Mexican items (I assume they have some because virtually every other diner-type item you can think of is on the menu). But the eggs benedict was good. Not Peg's good, but good. That, combined with the lightning speed of service (five-seven minutes after ordering. WOW!!!) gave the last visit a four star. There's not really consistency here, though, I've been a few times and depending on what you order, it's very hit and miss. I'm also basing three stars on the fact that this place is about to get VERY WELL KNOWN due to a certain TV show (they've already got the host's HUGE framed pic up on the wall by the register). It's been my experience that when places get busier, the quality goes down. Look at the downtown Nugget, for example. Used to be my favorite burger in the Reno area. Now it's like, fifth or sixth on the list. A shadow of what it once was. The problem with fame is, restaurants with national "TV cred" don't have to try anymore. Every douchebag tourist will go there now and guarantee them a "cult following" or whatever the hell places like this get. Granted, if I'm shit-assed drunk, I'll throw in an extra star on a place like this. But if I'm that drunk, I'll give any place extra credit because I'm less able to judge accurately, and dammit, I just need some food!! So Gold N Silver--OK. Not worth all that TV coverage, but still pretty good.

Chicken fried steak was gritty, gravy bland, and potatoes lacked seasoning as well. KC needed Tabasco on his croissant sandwich to add flavor. I wouldn't try it again.

Mmmm....I dream of the food at this place. A favorite since my high school days. The hollandaise sauce is made of all things delicious. The homemade gravy is also ravishing. Service is good and prices are cheap. An all in all great place for food!

Third time eating there. Last time was over a year ago. Prices $2-3 increase from then. Worst meal I have ever had. Basic steam table food with the worst gravy on the meatloaf I have ever had. Wife had chicken fried chicken and it's gravy was a mystery and not at all good. Never going back.

OMG!!! I cant say enough about how awesome the food is here. The must have is Lemonade Pork Chops...the chili is killer and mashed potatoes are like grandmas. I had the Chicken Fried steak and found it a little blah but in general it was awesome. The staff is friendly and welcoming.

We came in on a Saturday morning after watching the balloon races and I was a little disappointed. At first we were planning to have some friends meet us so I told the elderly hostess we needed space for 8. Our friends changed their minds so I unfortunately had to ask her for a table for 5 instead, which seemed to really irritate her. (She didn't even smile at us when we first walked in!) I didn't feel like eating breakfast so I opted for the Lemonade pork chops that Guy Fieri had eaten on Triple D. The sauce was very good, but the chop itself was a little tough. Service was great, but the kitchen was a little slow, probably due to the large crowd. I'd try this place again on a slower day though.

  • Maia S.

This is an example of a Triple D sellout. There's nothing to recommend this diner, it's exactly what you would expect if you didn't know Guy Fieri had visited. Fair service, dated menu and decor, poor food and a small smokey casino. Don't bother.

I can not remember ever being here during day light hours, it seems to be the late night kind of place for me. The food has never been spectacular, but is always good. The service is usually just fine, with an occasional blip but then after 30 years of going I would expect a few blips. So if you are near by, or not give this place a try. Perfect for those who rant against chains.

Jesus Christ, this place is a heart attack on a plate. Between twelve of us, we dropped a pretty penny & took down a whole mess of breakfast. The food was passable (greasy & cheap is greasy & cheap, especially when most folks eating are nursing a hangover), except for the waffle (non-Belgian), which was dry & burnt. Still, a dry, burnt waffle for breakfast at the ass-end of Reno is a novelty for an out-of-towner like myself.

We thought we would give this place a try due to its nostalgia. Wish we stayed away. It was less than OK. the server was nice but the service was slow. The food, some good but mostly plain. The most offensive thing to us was that the dining area is attached to a casino and the placed reeked of smoke. We had to sit against the far wall to escape most of it. If you don't smoke don't come here.

We stop here often for lunch or breakfast. This place has been around for a long time so you see a lot of locals here. Good comfort food at near reasonable prices. Service is fast and the food always good.

This place is great if you get the right cooks or servers. Hit and miss really. I've gone at times and sometimes the proportions are wonderful enough to fill 3 or 4 people on 2 appetizers, and sometimes its much less food. Typical greasy spoon but some healthy options. The avocado sandwich was a real surprise and huge treat. And a very healthy one at that for a greasy spoon diner.

Was in town for a tournament, and saw a review of this on Diners, Drive ins an Dives. Had to try to Lemonade Pork Chops. Kind o a tangy BBQ sauce with a Peppery bite. Enjoyed it alot. Friend had the tri-tip sandwich and liked it alot. Service was good also except their couple alcohol drink specials weren't that good.

Saw that this place was on Triple D's, so decided we had to try it while in town. We weren't disappointed - Good Food! Good Service!!! Try the Tri-Tip Sandwich in Mahogany Sauce - It's DELICIOUS!!! Waffles, omelets, etc. are yummy too!

Old Reno...do you hear an echo? Well, it's true. The best thing about this place is it's old school charm. The food is pretty basic, the service borders on indifferent, and the atmosphere screams retirement home. Still, it's better than its 24/7 counterpart, Denny's, if you're looking for some greasy, late-night grub. I highly recommend the GIANT milkshakes because hey, if you're already eating here you're not looking to eat healthy, so why not?

  • Victoria M.

So, this is like a time warp. The whole place reminds me of when I was a kid. It is kind of ghetto, there is gum under the table but holy toledo... Try the pork chops and it really does not matter that that gum is probably older than I am! The tri-tip sandwich is really delicious too. I have eaten here many times, it is safe, if not super clean, and the staff is really kind. I would not change a gosh-darn thing in this place... and Im fairly picky, but something about it is so charming!

The fact that the food network chose to air a segment on the Gold and Silver really makes them lose credibility in my mind. The Gold and Silver is unique in that its been a long time running business in the area, but aside from that there is no culinary wonders going on here AT ALL. How can you feature a restaurant where 90 percent of the menu comes out of the freezer and into the deep fryer? Its a diner/casino/drunken hangout....which is fine, but lets call it like it is. The employees are rough, real rough. Everything i have ever eaten here gives me the worst stomach ache and issues the next day. If you're drunk and looking for substance, go here. If you're looking for ambiance and a meal to wow you, don't.

In an era of mass-produced, "every low-cost restaurant is the same", blah-blah food it is places like this that satisfy and bring back the memory of how things are supposed to be. We had the deep fried asparagus. It was nicely prepared, served with hollandaise sauce and not greasy. A large portion was gobbled down in nothing flat. Denny's and Islands do not have anything like that. I had a patty melt, made the way I like it. Not mass-market, nanny-culture, gray colored overdone shoe leather. Nice and juicy (yes, rare!) on marble rye with grilled onions and cheese. I also had the macaroni salad, not from a jar or bulk pack either, FRESH. My son had the tri tip sandwich with mahogany sauce and enjoyed it thoroughly. It was not a small portion either as reported elsewhere. My wife had the steak sandwich. It was a real piece of steak grilled as ordered and the fries were good. We were too full to try the bread pudding. Maybe next time we are in Reno. My family has already decided we are going back and this may be the only place they will eat in the area.

Ever since this place was featured on DDD, I had to come to the Gold N Silver Inn because I've lived in Reno forever. The first time I went I ordered "Lenny's Lasagna" which wasn't mind blowing amazing, but still pretty good. The second time I ordered the Tri Tip Sandwich that was featured on DDD. It is delicious and you have to order it with the mahogany sauce. Went here at 4 AM (which was awesome. I love the fact that this place NEVER closes) Third time I ordered the turkey dinner, and my god it was Thanksgiving all over again (there were can lines on the cranberry sauce, awesome!). I wans't a fan of the stuffing though. Forth time I went I ordered off the weekday special menu, and got a Belgium waffle, 2 eggs scrambled, and 2 pieces of bacon all for 6 bucks. None of it was really impressive. Belgium waffle was a bit salty for a waffle. Overall, the Gold N Silver Inn is a great place to satisfy your late night cravings, but its not my first choice for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

You go here to get away from the homogenized chain restaurants. Probably not a place you'd want to take a first date, but a great place if you just want to relax with some decent food.

Ate here tonight........OUTSTANDING I had the lemonade pork chops and I honestly could have ate another plate, not because I was not full because I could not get enough of the flavor of these delicious pork chops. My girl had the fried chicken which I had a bite of and it to was perfection. This place is awesome. I will be back.

YUCK! I ate here with my family because this place is apparently a landmark. Also, being a chef I was curious about Guy Fieri's review of the place having been featured on diners, drive-ins and dives. In my opinion this place should have been in the dives category. We had chicken salad on a croissant, tri-tip and chicken wings. The chicken salad had mayo dripping of of it. It and so much mayo that is all I could taste. The chicken wings were so overcooked we had to send them back. When we got them back they were almost exactly the same! The tri-tip was okay expect it came in a wrap and should have been called a tri tip burrito. Funny thing is that we took all of the meat out of the "wrap" and ate just the meat. The waitress was nice enough and that is the only good thing i have to say about this place. I wont be coming back because i was in no way satisfied. I tried this same place a few years ago and had some pretty good pork chops and i hear they have some cheap breakfast specials (which is hard to mess up) so I give these guys 2 stars, but barely. I wish I had my $30 back!

so i went back for a second time; the first time i gave it 3 stars so this time four. first i came in and within a minute they came by for my drink order then the waitress came by for my order. i ordered the navy bean soup and it was pretty good and at least it was hot. i got the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and veggies. i really liked the veggies and the mashed potatoes were either all or mixture of red potatoes which was very good, the serving of meatloaf was more than enough. while the meatloaf was good it wasnt great but still would order again ; it could have had a little more flavor. i gave it 4 stars cause overall the food and service were good

This is a locals place, has been open for decades, serves huge portions at reasonable prices, has (usually) friendly and (usually) efficient service, and it's open all the time. What's not to love? Well, whatever's been sitting on a warmer for that 24 hours, for one. Or anything that just goes straight from the freezer to the deep-fat fryer. Or any vegetable you'd prefer fresh or hot or non-mushy. I recently had clam chowder that I'm sure was originally good, but had been simmered down to a a salty potato mush. The clams were good, though. Pancakes are good, breakfast/eggs are good, pies are great, ice cream sundaes are good, tapioca's good, if you like that; you get the idea. There is a slot-machine area by the entrance where smoking is allowed. Sit as far away as you can to avoid the second-hand smoke. I so wish they'd do something about the air quality. I'm okay with the 'old Reno' atmosphere, but I wish the 'old' part of the atmosphere wasn't stale cigarette smoke. Addendum: Last week we had a surly waitress; this week our waiter neglected to refill my coffee cup, even once, during the hour and a half we were there. I guess he thought I didn't want more? Not that he asked. I've also had wonderful service. So I guess the service is hit-n-miss as well as the food.

This is the most delicious, highest quality diner food I've ever had. Great service, great menu. I ate here twice in 24 hours. DEFINITELY get the fried chicken for dinner, DEFINITELY get the eggs Florentine for breakfast.

  • Craig C.

I eat here (almost) once a week. Do I eat here for the spectacular food? No. For the attentive service? No. I eat here because it's one of the last Old Reno places left. I wasn't a regular until after they tore down The Pioneer Inn Coffee Shop and Kilroy's Diner upstairs at The Nevada Club. (respectful moment of silence). That said, the food here is tasty enough to justify its low cost. The service is good enough to give a diner "character". Become a regular here and you'll know you live in Reno.

    (3)
  • Jessica S.

The atmosphere is definitely Old Reno, which also means its not the fanciest place in town, but I go to the Gold N Silver for two reasons: its always open and they have HOMEMADE PIE.

The GnS is about as Reno as breakfast can get. Nothin says high quality like a Kraft single on top or your omelet.

The Gold-N-Silver used to have a bit more charm before they redecorated, but the menu and atmosphere is still pretty much the same as when I came here in the wee hours of the morning with my college buddies. It's the kind of diner that Denny's and Carrow's do their level best to kill. I thank my lucky stars for authentic places like these. Whatever you order will probably kill you in the long run, so don't eat here every day unless you want to go out in a super-size coffin, with extra diabetes on the side.

  • Christine F.

Yep, 4 stars. While this isn't a gourmand's dream, it is good, solid, american diner food in a setting that appeals to me. I have been eating here since I was a kid and will probably continue until either the death of myself or this place. I love the clubhouse on soudough. It is usually smart to bring someone to share it with because it is enough for two. I regularly get the french dip also. They have great cream pies, a colorful and charming waitstaff and a fun music cross-section that plays quietly on the overhead speakers - genre depends on the day and time. As far as some other reviewers referring to the elderly and this is where old waitresses go to die, I look at it differently and that they have a staff with many years experience and I respect that, also I like the sassy brassiness that most of them possess. GnS is a great place to go if you want to relax , sit for a bit and get a good conversation in with friends over some comfort food. Also, they like to spice things up and try new things here and there with new food additions. Currently, they have a menu of mini foods, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches and hamburgers. Tony got the mini hamburgers over the weekend and shared with me and we both thought they were delicious. For a 10:30 dinner, they definitely hit the spot.

For breakfast at 1:30 in the morning, this was a great and pleasant surprise. I was visiting Reno and not familiar with the town so I turned to Yelp for help when I got hungry after a night of partying. What a great dive, Gold-N-Silver! You could tell the waiter had been working there for years, cool demeanor and totally on top of the game. The food came out looking great, an omelet with all the fixings. The coffee was hot and fresh, and I was glad I went into the icky looking place.

My wife and I have always been big fans of this place and our recent experience was no different. Stopped in for a late dinner after running some errands and had a veritable feast. I was starving after no lunch and a long day at the office, and this place really hit the spot. My wife had the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and cole slaw (which comes with salad or a bowl of soup). Tonight's soup was clam chowder. I had the G&N Heartburn with garlic fries and a cup of chilli (which came with a corn bread muffin). My wife's meatloaf was fantastic--I tried some and its honestly the best I've ever had. Great mashed potatoes as well. She said she really enjoyed the cole slaw (she said it was excellent and she's picky about her slaw) and the soup was good, if standard, clam chowder. My meal was amazing. The chilli, which came with diced onions and shredded cheese, was outstanding. And the corn bread muffin, oh my god, it was too die for. Moist, tasty, and delicious with some soft butter to go with it. The heartburn sandwich was great too. Heaps of try tip, peppers (red and green), horse raddish, and tons of cheese on toasted bread. It was amazing and very spicy, as advertised. The garlic fries were standard garlic fries, and were tasty enough. We ended up having plenty of leftovers, as both meals were huge. Despite all the food, we got out the door for $30 plus tip. Bargain. Service was efficient, friendly, and fast. I noticed its been getting kicked around on here lately, and I was wondering whether something had happened here. After this outstanding meal its apparent that there's nothing wrong with the food or service here, just an issue with the wanna bes writing the reviews. Do your self a favor--ignore the negative reviews. This place rocks.

I ordered the country fried chicken and thought it was excellent. I'm with Guy Fieri - their homemade gravy was awesome! Mashed potatoes were real although the coleslaw was warm I give the overall experience a 9.5 out of 10.

My wife and I went there because I saw this place featured on Guy Fieri's "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives". This was the 3rd restaurant (featured on his show) that we've checked out. Looking at the place (on the show), it was obvious that this eatery was probably going to fall into the Dive category, and there were no surprises in that regard upon arrival. This review is not in any way based on the fact that it is a Dive. I am going to slam it based solely on everything else EXCEPT the ambiance. One of my favorite places to eat Scott's Burger Shack (Sacramento CA) would be categorized as a dive. We arrived at around 4 in the afternoon, and were instructed to seat ourselves. We sat by the window, and immediately a gentleman came up to seek if we needed something to drink, he instructed us that if we wanted anything other than a softdrink or water, we would need to wait for our waitress. Immediately he returned with water for us. Let me state that if that was the extent of our interaction with the Gold and Silver Inn, then I would have left a GLOWING review. Unfortunately, it wasn't (I wish we we would have left then). After being ignored for over 10 minutes, we discussed leaving. I even saw a blonde waitress (looked like she could have been featured on America's Most Wanted, or Cops) look our ways, but she never came to our table. As we were just about fed up and ready to leave another waitress came towards our table, but she ended up taking the order from the couple that had just arrived (sitting in the next booth). After taking their order she left without saying a word to us. A couple more minutes go by and the guy that brought us water looked our way, so I raised both hands (universal sign of confusion). He sent the same waitress that had helped the newly arrived couple over, and she apologized profusely. She stated that she thought that the other waitress was helping us. Not sure if she really meant it but a "have you been helped yet?" would have gone a long ways. We instructed her that we were here because of Guy's show and we ordered what appeared to be the most expensive items on the menu (the DDD featured items). I would imagine that once you've gotten free advertising it would be in your best interest to charge more for those featured items than you would other items, but make the portions appropriate to what you are charging. The portions on the show were generous, so I fully expected that it was gonna be worth the price we were going to pay. Split Pea soup: Very good (only item consumed that we felt was worthy of a rating that high) Our entrées were a Tri-tip sandwich and an order of the Lemonade Pork Chops. The Tri-tip was not seared nor were the onions properly grilled as they were on the show. The portion size was so tiny, it was only worth about 50% of what we paid. The flavor was fine, and since I frequently buy Tri-tip in bulk, I know that they could have easily provided a more generous portion than what was served to us. Taste: Just OK, NOT above average. My wife had asked for a salad with dressing on the side. The salad was gross looking. The dressing appeared gray in color, and was poured on it, not served as requested. Taste: Unknown, Unappealing On the show the Lemonade Pork Chops were THICK, our portion was so thin that you could have seen through it if you held it up to the light. Okay, it wasn't THAT thin, but between the two chops, I'd be surprised if they equaled 3/8" combined. Taste: Good, for paper thin portions. We have been to two other DDD featured places before. In Reno NV. We checked out the Dish Cafe, and it was worthy of the hoopla. In San Francisco we dined at the TEE OFF Bar & Grill. The later was by far one of the best meals that we ever ate, and after the notoriety that the show brought them, they still were generous with their portions. If the Gold and Silver Inn had charged 7-8 bucks per entrée then I would not have felt compelled to let others know that IT SUCKED! I have to wonder if maybe Guy Fieri had ran out of places worthy of actually being featured. I read others that raved about this place...knowing the cook and wait staff. You should not judge a place on how it treats their friends, rather judge them on how poorly do they treat a stranger. I WOULD NOT eat there again (even if it were free).

Good comfort food with amazing staff! Great place to go for meat, potatoes, bread and gravy. Also a great place for breakfast. All dishes are priced around the $10 range and well worth the money

This review comes to you all with mixed emotions...... I wanted to have such a great experience here...... but it just didn't happen. I saw this place featured on Diners Drive inns and Dives with Guy Fieri and had it on my list to visit, (we have hit many of his spots)... After watching the show i knew basically what to expect from the outside and thought I knew what to expect from the Food.... FAIL.... this place defiantly falls under the DIVE category. Seat yourself, We were asked about drinks before we sat down +...... but then came the 10+ minute wait for a waitress.... that basically threw the menu in front of us and said she would be back..... another long wait.... we mauled over the extensive menu that was Covered with references to DDD and pictures of Guy on the cover... (This should have been a clue) This places Boast of being open continuously for 50 + years only closing one day ... 24 -7.... I don't know why... We ordered the country fried steak and gravy, eggs and home fries..... Bring an appetite... this sucker is HUGE....... lightly breaded , fresh ground and the eggs done to perfection, the potatoes were so so...... That's about it... nothing great pretty standard Not worth going out of your way for and not really worth the Large Bill... pricey for diner food, that's just average. The place was clean for the most part, the Male waiter was Johnny on the spot with the coffee but the waitress was Scary, like she just came off the strip from a Party.... I write this only to give feedback for anyone Thinking because Guy Fieri was here it was FANTASTIC..... this time for Sure Guy Made an error In judgment Featuring this place on the show....... Not worthy of the Hype at all.

I have been coming here since I was a teenager everytime I have visited Reno. It is cheap and great food, usually. It has changed a bit since the last time I went, then again I went in the morning where it was busy and this trip we went at midnight which is when the unskilled waitresses work. Our waitress was very rude and seemed to be rushing us. She cleared out our plates as soon as what seemed to be our last bite, she dropped the check down and walked away only to come back 5minutes later to ask if she could take them up for us. You are suppose to take them up to the register yourself when your ready to leave, but like I said, she was in a rush. The funny part is, there were two seperate checks, and because one couple I was with did not like the way she acted, they gave her a small tip, and she went out of her to point that out, "Thats the tip?", as she points to it on the receipt. Yes, sweetheart, yes that is all you get. Get over it and stop being rude to people. However, on the plus side the food is always good, even though I did not like the way they made their gravy with the biscuits, everyone else seemed to like it. It was different then I have known and that was my first time trying it. Cheap, delicious, better during the morning in a nutshell.

Lemonade Pork Chops; it was better than I expected. Guy from Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives was not lying. It was worth the trip. Ground-beef steak w/ gravy was somewhat good.

Absolutely some of the best wings I've ever had. Try them with the mahogany sauce (BBQ sauce with bacon) and ranch. Drool.

Now usually I like this place for inexpensive, good food. I've had good burgers, good breakfasts, Been going there since the 60's when we'd stop by after church and have some silver dollar pancakes. During college it was great for late night/early morning anti-hangover food. Everyone called it fondly the "Gulp and Slobber". Always good, basic food. Today we were in search of St. Patrick's Day corned beef and cabbage. First place we went had sold out. Gold n' Silver was next on the way downtown. They said they had lots of their corned beef special. It was $10.99. The dinner salad was alright. The special arrived and what a disappointment. Two sad looking slices of corned beef over very pale, over cooked cabbage. The cabbage was placed under the corned beef to elevate the display - make it look as though there was more beef. The baby potatoes were alright, the carrots excellent. A small curve of cantaloupe seemed very misplaced. All was covered, except the cantaloupe, with a thin, tasteless gravy. The dinner rolls were sad. To make it all festive, very festive, the sour cream/horseradish mixture was colored a bluish green. Made me think of Tums. Our waitress was nice, efficient, and very much enjoyed the blue horseradish. This place is clean, but dated. The staff, many who have been there for years, are always pleasant and efficient. The busman is quick to bring drinks, refill them, and clear away. I will go again, just not for the corned beef special. A rare miss.

This is the kind of "food" that you would throw over the neighbor's fence if you really really really hated the neighbor's dog. Horrible. They should be arrested for fraud. I am going to see if Diner's, ect. has a complaint department. Guy Fieri's face is plastered on the menu and the building, and it's a disgrace. The first thing that hits you is the cigarette smoke smell. It's an old dive in Reno, so the decor is junky which is to be expected. All of the staff have facial expressions consistent with pictures in the medical books of patients with clinical depression. My waiter was no exception. I violated one of my cardinal rules: Leave any restaurant where the staff seems to be in conflict. The cooks were obviously fighting. I should have gone to Subway, but I had turned a business trip into a Guy Fieri weekend. He was two for three. I ordered one of my all time personal favorites, chicken fried steak and eggs. It came with a side, and I chose chili just to try it. Ordering eggs over easy is always dangerous. So I order them over medium. These eggs were barely cooked. The sourdough toast was very good by the way, and was used to sop up the barely cooked eggs. The "steak" patty was good, other than the huge piece of gristle in it. The coating of the steak had only one flavor-burnt raw flour. All purpose. The "gravy" sat in a 1/2 inch glop on top of the chicken fried steak. It resembled Donald Trump's hair. It had only one flavor: old. It was at least two to three days old and was so thick it was like drywall paste. Had a bit of a musty highlight, like the smell from an old trunk that's been in the garage for 40 years. The chili tasted old, too. And it tasted like crap. Huge beans. Did have actual meat. If you really really really hate someone, get them a gift certificate.

We decided to go to this place based on the review by Java B. I have to say, we weren't disappointed! There was no cigarette smell as others have mentioned, so right away, it was better than I had anticipated. The decor was kitschy, and very appropriate - it totally fit in with what they had going on. It is an older establishment that had the cool "old Reno" vibe to it. I had the fried chicken because I felt they could not go wrong. The nice waitress warned me that it would take about 20 minutes, and I didn't mind, seeing as how that meant it was going to be really fresh. Hubby had the lasagna. Both came with salad, and my fried chicken came with fries or mash, so I went with the mash. It seemed less than 20 min when the food came. Both the lasagna and the chicken were really good. And I will agree with others that the portion size is big - you won't leave hungry! We decided to take some of the chocolate pistachio cake home with us - the waitress convinced us that it was too good to pass up, so we took some to go. The prices were very reasonable, and we definitely will go back!

This was our second visit here, but could have sworn that the last time, the food tasted better. Ordered 2 things off the "Guy's" menu from the Food network show: -Tri-Tip Sandwich, with BBQ sauce and side of mashed potato. I thought the sandwich was ok. I had a side of grilled onions. The hubby though the BBQ sauce was a little too sweet, other that that, he'd order it again but with the mahogany sauce. -Lemonade Sauce Pork chop with mashed potato and home fries. The soup it came with was the Butternut Squash soup. First of all, when I asked about the home fries, I was under the impression they were steak fries. They were diced up potatoes, in cube-like shapes. None the less, we both felt the home fries were good. So were the mashed potatoes. I thought the pork chop was tender, but I'd prefer a grilled pork chop. The special sauce was tangy, sweet and sour kind of taste. It was ok, but maybe its just not my kind of taste. Hubby agreed with me. I don't usually like squash, but the soup was pretty good. -Brown gravy tasted like it was homemade. I felt the country gravy was bland. -Bread Pudding was good. Not the best I had. it was kind of cold. I wish it was warm and if they had almonds or pecans (for those who like nuts). I asked for the whipped creme and had caramel on the side. -Hot Chocolate was very good! usually watery, this was not. I'd always order it here. A server did mention she had just changed the "thing 5 minutes ago." total bill: $27+tip Large Menu, Open 24 hrs.

My wife and I was in Reno and wanted breakfast, so we yelp this place. We went their, it was seat yourself we sat down, got our orders quick, but my wife ordered the chicken steak breakfast, ugh, wrong choice, it taste super sour, Like it was left out over night, the waitress took it back and I'm sure they tasted the other chicken steak because I heard them over talking that it was bad so the waitress comes over and ask if my wife likes another choice of breakfast, we were both bummed out n full already, but she still ordered the pork chops, they were ok. I ordered my siMple eggs and suauages with waffle, it was good until I started eating my eggs and saw a piece of hair, grossed out so I stopped. Maybe we just had bad Luck today. The waitress were very nice though.

OK, first off, SIX STARS- that's right, six gold stars- six FLAMING NEON gold stars- to the guy running around pouring coffee. Never, ever, have I experienced such mastery at keeping a coffee cup full. I don't know how he did it--- strings, mirrors-- he was never around until the thought crossed my mind that I might be needing more coffee soon- and *!BAM!* there he was-- professional, quick, with nary a drop spilled. No stars for my Denver omelette- basically scrambled eggs with everything mixed in, cooked, and served in a omelette shape. For me, the ingredients must be hidden inside like a pleasant surprise in order to be called an omelette. Others obviously disagree. Toast and hash browns were on par with any of the hundreds of toast being toasted and hash browns being browned in Reno that late morning. This looks like the kind of place we used to end up at 2AM after drinking all night and desperately needing some food. Open, a variety of different foods available, no questions asked. I will go back, though, since there are three dishes on the menu mentioned by Guy That-Famous-Dude-With-The-Food-Show two of which sounded like they might be worthy of a visit.

It was featured on Diner's Drive Ins and Dives and its a mix of a Dive and Diner, the best combination. I had the tri tip with mahogany sauce and my cohort had the pounder burger. Both were fantastic and this will be a place I visit whenever I am in Reno.

I went to this place last night and the food is your typical dive dinner food. I found the food to be delicious and for a great value, but later on in the night every person who I ate dinner with got sick off of the food. After multiple bathroom visits I think I will never go back to this place ever again, thus this is why I gave the review one star. Inside this place, there is a dirty old casino atmosphere. Even while eating your food, you can still hear the slot machines and smell the cigarette smoke. This place is located in downtown reno in an area that is challenged with many economical problems. In the lobby I couldn't happen to notice that there was a methed out, pregnant lady, who was drinking a beer and smoking cigarettes. Everyone was either carting around an oxygen tank or smoking a cigarette.

This is our go to place. You know what your gonna get and its always the same!! Yep its old and yep you can smell cigarettes when you walk in but thats part of it. The food is always great and the service quick. One of the oldest places in Reno. Dont change a thing!!

I've been spending vacation time in Reno for years but I just recently dropped in on the Gold-N-Silver Inn. Like so many, I learned of it from the appearance on Triple D. Now I'm left wondering why it took so long to hear about such an iconic place. First thing's first -- this place is HUGE. I really wasn't ready for just how big it is. Went in for dinner and wondered if we'd have a wait, especially with the recent national publicity. They were doing business, but there was plenty of room and we were seated right away. This isn't the Ritz. It is, however, a great example of what a 24-hour diner should be: friendly, flavorful and filling. The menu has plenty to offer, throws some surprise curves and isn't over-the-top in terms of price. I went for the chicken fried steak, as did another in our party. A third opted for the turkey dinner. For me, the chicken fried steak earned my highest praise -- just as good as mom used to make. The steak was cooked perfectly, the mashed potatoes were just the right consistency, and the gravy ... that's the stuff that dreams are made of! To be fair, my fellow diners weren't as taken with the food as I was. My CFS compadre said he'd had better and wasn't nearly as happy with the potatoes and gravy. Then again, he's not much for potatoes so I discount that angle a bit. The turkey dinner diner didn't care for the dressing and said the turkey "wasn't what I'd expected." I couldn't get anything more detailed than that, so I'm not sure exactly what was amiss. And neither liked the coffee; I don't drink coffee, so I can't offer any insight on that front. But this is my review, so I'm saying great things about the Gold-N-Silver. The service was good; our server had a bit of attitude and a good sense of humor, just the right mix for this type establishment. I loved the food, the atmosphere and the entire experience. Next time I'm in town, I will head back to the Gold-N-Silver, a true gem in the Biggest Little City's wealth of dining options.

When my girlfriend and I went to Reno we decided to drop by because we saw the restaurant on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives (DDD). The atmosphere here is of a really old diner. Everything looks like it was from the 70's. Just watch the youtube videos to see the type of decor. It wasn't a big deal to me because I knew the type of decor going in and came for the food. The place did smell of cigarette smoke so it might not be a good place if you have allergies. The food was hit and miss. I ordered the eggs Benedict off their value menu. It was the nastiest eggs Benedict I ever ate. The hollandaise sauce was horrible and just ruined the entire dish. However, the hash browns were delicious. My girlfriend ordered the Lemonade pork chops that were featured on DDD. It tasted great and really was the only reason that saved our trip. The service we received was fine. The majority of the wait staff are really old, but we had a young waitress handling our table and she always took care of us in a timely manner. It was kind of weird when we first walked in because the lady at the register was on an oxygen tank and looked like she would die any minute. However, when I started talking to her she livened up and was really nice. We'd definitely come back, but will only order food that they are known for.

Visiting Reno: Bowling, eating, good times! Especially eating on this particular visit. My husband was in town for Hot Aug. Nights (last August, go figure), and came upon the G&S only because his co-worker had seen it featured on ..wait for it...that show on Food network that's been mentioned a trillion times already here. He had the Lemonade Pork Chops (surprise!). Came home raving about 'em. I'd already not been there, not done that, but had seen the aforementioned Food network show and even Google'ed the recipe for said P. Chops, but wanted to try them before I attempt preparing them at home. So, bowling family that we are, we found ourselves in Reno for the USBC tournament and staying right down the street from the G&S. We went posthaste there. And...well, I was rather underwhelmed. It actually was pretty clean & not so dive-y, just retro, pleasant & efficient service (though the waitress screwed up my order, gave me mashed & not the requested baked potato--no big, love potato in any form), a real laid-back, basic diner. Love the li'l casino. The food was OK--the amazing Lemonade Pork Chops As Seen on TV were...just pretty darn tasty but pretty thin. I actually was the lone wolf of the four in my party and ordered not the chops, but the Ground Beef Pounder (of which half went to my husband in exchange for one L. Chop), which was just a big ol' slab of meat and completely delish, if that's what you're in the mood for. Which I was. Next time I'm in Reno, I'd go back, as it was a pleasant experience all the way around, but I'd like to try something that wasn't featured by Guy to make sure.

Some background: I'd eaten here 3-5 times in 2007 when I first moved to the area and had had a terrible experience each time. However, based upon recommendations from acquaintances, I decided to give it another try. I arrived just before noon, and found a table right away (it's self-seating). I was given a menu and water and was asked about a drink within minutes--a drastic difference from my previous visits. I looked over the menu, and when my server--Vickie--arrived a few minutes later, I asked her about the meatloaf sandwich special; she said it was good and that she orders it, herself, on occasion. So far, so good. The meal arrived in a timely manner: two slices of white bread, topped with a pair of 1-inch thick slices of meat, drenched in dark brown gravy, with some mashed potatoes on the side. It was only meatloaf, but as such it was acceptable for the price. While I was eating, Vickie brought me the check without my having asked for it. A plus to me. My earlier fears turned out to have been unfounded. There was one minor glitch: a bit of cold in the middle of one slice of loaf (not frozen-solid-chip-a-tooth cold, but certainly below-room-temperature cold); however, the veggie-bits in meatloaf the were surprisingly crisp, making up for it. Bottom line: It was worth the $6.95 price tag. But then, it was only meatloaf. Next time I'll be a bit more adventurous.

Its all about the fluffy hash browns and huge pancakes. They were both excellent. The sausages are average and I wouldn't order them again. Service was very good and the food arrived quickly. We'll be back.

I'm still a huge fan of The Gold 'N Silver ... I absolutely love their Patty Melt on Rye. Also for those who love the restaurant - they have just launched an online store so you can buy gift cards or take a little piece of Gold 'N Silver swag home. So cool.

My family and I have gone to Gold 'n Silver for the past ten years at least a few times a year. The food is fantastic and appropriately priced. There have been some occasions when it was less than stellar, but after informing the waitress, all issues have always been responsive and kind. One caveat (the reason it's not a 5) is that depending on the time of day, you may end up with a TERRIBLE waiter/waitress who appears to hate life and/or not speak English well. If you go during mainstream times, you shouldn't have much of an issue though. Definitely recommend!

The food reminds me of what my grandmother used to make. It is just solid old fashion food. The wait staff can be hit or miss but they are usually kind. We came here for breakfast on my son's birthday and they put a candle in a doughnut for him. I've never been late night but I am sure you can find a few extra special people!

We call this restaurant the "Gag and Slobber" or "Slop and Goop". They've been here for many years and the prices keep going up while the quality goes down. Smoke from the small slot machine area in the lobby can be annoying. Guy Fieri featured this restaurant on "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" a while back... I think this place qualifies for the "Dives" description. DON'T BE FOOLED! The eggs Benedict is poor, with hollandaise sauce that tastes like it's from a package mix. It's no wonder that this place has no regulars on Yelp. Reno has many other choices for breakfast. 'Skip this dive. Atmosphere is dull, it is dirty, and you feel ripped-off when you leave. It gives you the feeling that the kitchen is just as dirty. When we complained about the food, asking for another item, the waitress was unable to comp the Eggs Benedict and told us to talk to the Manager on duty. The manager was ineffectual and seemed unwilling or unable to comp the offending item and chose to behave as if we were trying to get away with something. Disgusted and unwilling to argue, we elected to leave rather than cause a scene. We decided to leave instead and warn others to stay away.

Been going to GNS for a long time now, and it is my go to place for breakfast in the Reno area. I am a huge fan eggs benedict and they do it great here. I also like to go for some lunches and dinners as well. I really liked the lemonade pork chops with all the spice and flavor that it comes with. You really cannot beat this places food for the price and portion you will get. Also its open 24 hours a day so that means I can order my eggs benedict at 4 in the morning after a night of drinking. Just cant go wrong here!

I was talking with someone about Peg's being the best place for breakfast here in Reno. He said this place was EVEN better, that it was clearly better than Peg's. I had to try it for myself and had a good excuse while my mom was visiting. It's not. It's a way old school diner, as in I'm actually not sure how, but it looked clean and new enough, but it seemed like all of the furniture and decor was time-traveled in from the 1960s, close to when the place opened. Lots of pale orange and other colors that don't seem very attractive now and that it was hard to believe were the fashion back then. The sign has these pointed edge stars and it may actually be the original sign that was there when the place opened in the 1950s. I actually thought that was kind of a cool feature. The interior on the east end has an entrance and transports you by a cashier (which is odd because the receipt and I think the menu both say "pay your server") whom you pay on the way out and a gift shop. There was a group of what had to be Elks Lodge or Kiwanis or Freemasons or VFW guys eating at a large table nearby. Service was prompt. We were seated quickly and given menus, beverages and our food quickly. It was faster than average at a breakfast establishment, but without the feeling of stress or rush you often get from the service. The menu was very standard American breakfast fare with no real surprises. It wasn't trendy and a little creative like Denny's, nor did was it fancy like you might find at a more expensive restaurant. It's a diner, plain and simple. Their menu might be the same that it was 30 years ago. My mom ordered a coffee and a Belgian waffle. I ordered the eggs benedict. I found the benedict to be sort of hastily thrown together and not very cohesive. Ingredients were about the same quality you find at your basic grocery store. It was unremarkable bordering on disappointing. Eggs benedict should be a little on the exciting side in my experience. The Eldorado's Tivoli Gardens, for instance, does a much better benedict and it's still far from the best I've had. My mom thought her food was okay and the coffee was fine. I found her waffle to be dry, the lack of fruit to be disappointing and the simple maple syrup as the only option to make the place one level inferior to IHOP. I'm going to try to remember who the guy was that recommended the place (actually the two guys) and take note that they do not have very good taste in food. It didn't suck, but I don't see any reason to go there again when there are 3 Peg's locations in town and plenty of other places offering a superior breakfast. I almost forgot, my mom ordered some bacon and I had a piece. It was dry, overcooked, super crunchy and nearly flavorless. How on earth they turned a divine substance like bacon into what I had there I will never know. I never do this, but I didn't get a second piece, nor did I bother to take the bacon home. It was that bad!

Its an old school eatery in downtown that has been serving the same thing for years. All the food is good and the helpings are plentiful. One of my favorites is the chicken fried steak as well as the biscuits and gravy.

I've been here 4 times now and I would highly recommend it. The food is very dive-y but in the best possible way. The tri-tip sandwich with mahogany is one of the best sandwiches you will ever eat. Period.

After hearing that Guy Fiery had this restaurant on Triple D, one of my friends said we should go while we were in Reno. It looked like a small little diner, but this place was big, and it needed to be because we brought 50 people inside! The staff was very welcoming and gladly seated all 50 of us and took our orders rather quickly. Most people tried the selections that Guy had approved on the menu, but I decided to go with the classic fried chicken. The order did say that it would take a while so the wait didn't really bother me especially since there was a salad that came with it. The chicken as it arrived was really good! The only thing wrong with it is that there were a lot of bones when there could've been more chicken. The bill for four people was less than $40 so the price wasn't too shabby. I'd say it's a place that tourists should try and locals should go once in a while, but it's not so good that i'd recommend going several times a month.

The GnS isnt anything to rave over but it is a staple in the Reno community with its claim to fame of open 24/365. This is a genuinely greasy spoon. Tri tip sandwich is quite tasty, especially with the mahogany sace - a must! Prices are moderate and service is good. If you're looking for a new breakfast joint or someplace for a late night meal.. give them a try. I haven't been let down yet.

Had a Sunday night dinner with daughter's family. My two grandkids had to check out the thick milk shake (okay), quesadilla (very good with the excellent salsa, hot salsa) and the mac & cheese (given exuberant thumbs-up by both kids). Us adults had the sole almondine, lemonade pork chops (of course) and the tri-tip platter. We did not have any complaints. Service was excellent with the wait persons coming around frequently to check on our wants. Will enthusiastically return.

The Gold n' Silver gets 5 starts from me because it's my favorite place to go for breakfast in Reno, hands down. I usually order the California Eggs Benedict - it's perfectly cooked egges with avocado and hollandaise on english muffins. It sounded like a weird combo at first, but I took a risk and enjoyed it immensely. I've had their country biscuits and gravy, chili fries (which weren't amazing, but it was 3am on a Wednesday night...and paid for with change out of the car), and a few other breakfast items, like french toast. I haven't been for lunch, but one day I'll try the cobb salad - it always looks great when I see it being brought out to others. For everyone comparing it to Denny's etc - this aint the Ritz, mmkay? It's a place a local could love - it's darn good food at a good price in a truly "Reno" atmosphere. And I love it. Oh, and they have really good coffee, too.

Great deals, open 24 hours, really nice people, SPECIALS, and a weekday value menu that rocks. I love this place. Yes, some food is better than some of the other food but the specials are usually great. You can't beat these prices. Really, this is not a place for food snobs. This is a homey place for food when you don't want to cook it yourself. Save room for dessert. It's excellent and the bread pudding is huge. Go for the bread pudding.

This place is sketchy, kind of weird, and awesome all at the same time. It's certainly not going to be the best food you've ever had. It's a greasy spoon diner, so you shouldn't expect that going in. What it does - greasy food, coffee shop breakfasts, milkshakes, and anything with gravy - it does very well. The place is open 24 hours, and really, I don't think I've ever come to this place outside the hours of 11:00pm and 5:00am. It's made for weird, late night grease adventures. The waitresses are all a little... run down... but they're sweet and usually very attentive. I've never had a bad service experience here. In fact, the service here is great and the waitresses make me feel a lot more welcome than other places both fancier and more expensive. This is typical coffee shop/diner fare. Anything breakfast related is usually pretty good. I usually get the breakfast sandwich thingy with bacon, eggs, and cheese on a croissant. It's huge and it's like $7. The croissant is always soft and buttery and the eggs are done just right. Delicious. The hash browns are especially good here. The burgers are also great. Onion petals (or whatever they call them) are really good, but super greasy. Chicken fried steak is great here, and their gravy is top notch. My mom makes better gravy, but that's a matter of personal preference. This is homemade, or damn close. I haven't tried much or any of their dinner "entree" type stuff, just because I usually steer clear of that section of the menu in a place like this. After reading some of the reviews, I might change my stance. The best, best, best thing to get at the Gold & Silver, though? The milkshakes. Oh GOD the milkshakes. Made the old fashioned way with real ice cream and milk, in the little mixer thingy, served with whipped cream and the tin which is always at least 1/2 full. It's easily enough for two people, but fuck that. Get it for one person. You don't want to share this. If you want some good, greasy, homestyle food and it's like 2:00am, there's really no alternative in Reno. Go to the Gold & Silver.

Just had the worst breakfast I've had in 20 years eating out. The place was busy (no idea why). I should have known better seeing the average age of the customer and wait staff was about 79. Very rushed, impersonal waiter. The food was atrocious. Burnt bacon, ok eggs, and bland home fries. It's hard to screw up bacon and eggs and they did a great job at it. My girlfriend's egg's benedict had over cooked eggs and the sauce was nasty. Seriously, unless you like shitty food, DO NOT eat here.

I have eaten here 4 times now and 3 times it was delicious and one time only so so. I don't like that there's smoke wafting over from the casino area but that's a tiny thing. I have only had breakfast here, too, but it's really good. I recommend the PB&J french toast. If you have a sweet tooth it is the way to go. The biscuits and gravy were super good the first time I had them but only so-so last time. The gravy seemed old and coagulated last time. Service is quick. Coffee is mediocre. I will return for lunch or dinner sometime and update this review. Generally it gets a big thumbs up.

The place looks a little shabby but food is good and their bread pudding is AMAZING! I was staying in Reno and after gambling til about 3 am and drinking I was pretty hungry. This was about the only thing open 24hrs so my boyfriend and I gave it a try. The server was kinda slow but she was nice enough. I think she wrote us off cause we looked young and probably thought we didn't know how to tip...but whatever.. Both dishes we ordered was done really well, much better than what I would have expected at first glance of the place. IF YOU COME HERE YOU MUST, MUST, MUST GET THEIR BREAD PUDDING!!!! the best bread pudding i've had, hands down. its now one of the places I will always visit when in Reno.

Service was pleasant. The lemon chops and tri tip didn't disappoint. Like Guy on the show, the sauces for each were out of the usual flavor profile but I couldn't stop eating them! The chops were a bit on the thin side/dry but still tasty due to the sauce. The highlight...the gravy on the mashed. It was as good as you knew it would be.

yes the wife and i were just tourists from san francisco who saw "triple d" with guy fieri on Food Network and told ourselves that next time we happened to be in Reno to swing by and check in out. Not bad at all..honestly not as food-orgasmic as Guy made it out to be with all his "O" faces eating the food, but solid. this place def. capitalized on it's appearance on the show because Guy's face is plastered all over the place, AND the menu. Yes, the menu not only shows you what Guy ordered, it also shows his comments about the food as well. Hey, I won't judge..anything to make a buck these days, ya know? Had the Lemonade porkchops. very nice and tender, tho I honestly have to say i didnt taste the lemonade at all..tasted like a sweet teriyaki sauce really. But it was fall off the bone, and very big portions. wife had the huge meat patty, also something Guy ordered. very tasty, and the sides are good and FRESH too! The clam chowder was also great, with many bits of clams inside. All in all a good time. glad we went. Will I go back ? Not likely as there are way too many places to eat at in Reno.

Went here for a late night dinner with a few of my friends and had the Country Fried Steak Dinner with their Delicious homemade gravy topping it off. the plate was huge and the steak pretty much covered the whole plate with mashed potatoes and chili as my sides. Chili was "ok" I'm not a huge chili fan but it tasted just like any other chili but the potatoes with gravy was Delicious as well as the huge steak bestowed upon me. Some of my friends ordered a burger and thought it was good but they loved the hamburger buns a lot, maybe baked at the restaurant? the shakes are very Delicious, good old fashion malts. The service was excellent and our waitress was very tentative and made sure our drinks were always full and stopped to see how we were doing. the decor might not be as great but who cares?! the food is great and for us late nighters, was a great stop to cap off the night. The musts? for sure get something with their gravy, or a shake, or their hamburger buns from what i have learned because you wont go wrong with any of those. and the portions are on the larger side so stop there hungry

I admit it, when I heard this place was going to be featured on Guy's show, I thought WTF? The food never knocked my socks off there! I told everyone I knew that it didn't deserve to be featured. Turns out I had it mixed up with Gold Dust West across the street. *blush*. Anyway, I had eaten at the G&S Inn, but it was years and years ago. Hubby and I decided to eat breakfast there last Saturday, It was 10:00 and the menu stated that the lemonade porkchops were served after 11:00. I comented to the waitress that I would try them another day for lunch. She was nice enough to check to see if they were ready yet. They were, so I had pork chops and mashed potatoes for breakfast. I liked them. Very good flavor and tender. Hubby had the chicken fried steak. He said it was good. I didn't try it, but I took his word for it. Service was good and the coffee was flowing. I'll go back again before another 20 years pass.

The GnS just LOOKS like a greasy spoon type of place--just quite a bit larger than than most truck-stop double-wide diners. So if you go in there expecting high class... Well then you must be new. Since I moved to Reno, I have yet to find "comfort food" this good anywhere else. I can't speak on every single item on the menu, but every time I've gone here, the food has been outstanding. Yes, some of it is greasy, yes there's a lot of it, yes, it's attached to a "old Reno casino" (old slot machines, dingy carpet and smoke hanging in the air). I don't know anyone who goes here for the ambiance though. You go here for homemade chicken fried steak, fried chicken, biscuits and gravy and waffles. Um, not all at the same time though. That'd just be crazy talk! Oh Yeah. I'm also a REAL big fan of the Reuben sandwich here--it's a pretty good size, and comes with your choice of a side. It's amazingly difficult to find a good Reuben around here without going to a snotty, rip-off, "hip", hack of a "deli" where they charge 10 bucks for JUST a smallish Reuben sandwich, not including anything on the side. If I remember correctly (it's been a whopping two hours and I'm experiencing a mild" comfort food coma"), the Reuben here is about $7.50 or so. The soup today was chicken Florentine (with spinach), and as soon as I had my first taste, I decided I HAD to look up the recipe when I got home. That happens occasionally with me since I like food and love to cook, but this soup was good enough to actually specifically mention in my review. So Hooray Recipezaar and Huzzah GnS!!!

The first time that I went here was because I saw that they were on the DDD episode. I really thought that the lines were going to be long and that I would have to wait a million years just to get some food. However, all of the 3 times that I've been there, the place is pretty much empty. I like the environment, it has that old town, diner type of environment, and their food is good. I've only ordered what was on the DDD menu, so I can't speak for everyone else who is going there for other things... but I really enjoyed the lemonade pork chops, it was soft and very flavorful. I also liked their relaxed environment and I also like how it's open late. I will keep stopping by this Diner every time I'm in Reno, NV (which most likely will be at least 2-3 times a year).

Ugh I was so disappointed with this place. Of all the places in Reno that the Food Network could have featured in their show Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives they showed this place. Why not Peg's?? So after seeing this restaurant on national television we decided that we HAD to eat there and boy was it a disappointment. I have to say that the only positive thing at this place was the staff and service, but as for the food I couldn't even eat my meal. I ordered a steak sandwich with sautéed peppers and onions and it was gross; the meat that they called 'steak' was just slices of fat (no meat) smothered in cheese and topped with greasy undercooked peppers and onions and served with curly fries. The first bite I took I had to spit out because it was just a ball of fat put between two slices of toast and I couldn't even chew through it. After that first bite I was so grossed out that I couldn't even bring myself to take another, so I just snacked on the curly fries and waited for my boyfriend to finish his meal so we could get out if there. Not to mention that the chili my boyfriend ordered was ice cold, just as if they pulled it out of the fridge and scooped some into a cup. This place really let me down, especially when it came to the food. The menu prices are fairly reasonable, but I guess you get what you pay for.

Four stars, because of its unique menu, quirkiness and friendly, quick service, 24-hour availability...and the inescapable contingent of seniors keeping a slot machine busy. Mostly, they feature comfort food. However, the correct way to finish any meal is with two words: BREAD PUDDING. Delicious. This restaurant is kind of a novelty place, but one you will visit more than once if on an extended stay or reside in the area.

This is where old waitresses go to die (okay, there are a few younger ones) and they are characters. Server friendliness is not necessarily the culture, but in spite of the quirky personalities, they are generally efficient. Here's a cool thing. If you don't have or don't want to bring your cell, the cashier will page someone in the restaurant if you need to get a call on their landline. The coffee is harsh and can burn a hole in your stomach. If you're drinking more than one cup, cream is must. They will bring you "creamer mix" in the form of hydrogenated coconut oil, so I always ask for real milk to put in the coffee. When I ask for actual cow product, they peer at me with a perturbed look over their reading glasses, but they bring it. The little casino is located just outside the open end of the coffeeshop so you will hear coins plinking and dings and rings during your stay, but it feels and sounds right. The best feature is that you can come here and stay for as long as you like. It's a great place to do homework or write. Unless it's rush hour (breakfast) No one cares because they have tons of tables. The best items on the menu are the waffles, pancakes and milkshakes. After your first coffee refill, you'll probably have to tackle someone for more coffee, and God forbid, more milk! Oh well, you knew that going in.

Honest food, and lots of it. My husband and I ate at Gold-N-Silver for the first time last night, we have driven by it about 500 times, but finally decided to try it after I bought a $10 off on a $20 coupon on restaurant.com for 90 cents. The menu is not for the timid, it's confusing as all get out. Entrees y include soup or salad and two sides, but the choices for the side dishes were hidden away on a completely different menu page. For some reason, some entrees only include salad and one side dish, so figuring out what to order and what you will get with it took up most of the 20 minutes it took for a server to show up. Once she did, she was great, friendly and cheerful, and more than willing to give her opinion on various menu items. The food (I ordered tri-tip, DH got an 8 ounce steak) was good honest well cooked food, the appearance of it on the plate was disconcerting, it just looked like (and was) too much food for one person to eat. Some things that bothered me, the salad dressing served 'on the side' in a plastic cup- I absolutely hate that, and the BBQ sauce had some kind of 'liquid smoke' flavor in it, totally ruining what otherwise would have been a very nice homemade BBQ sauce. But for about $10 each this was decent food- way better than Casino Coffee shop food, Denny's or similar restaurants. There was no way either of us could finish our food, we were stuffed after eating about 2/3 of it, but we couldn't resist ordering the $2.65 bread pudding- it was very, very good- the waitress suggested that next time we come in that we try the homemade cream pies, and I think we just might do that. We will go back there, even without a coupon, it's a deal for those times that you are super hungry and you aren't worried about ambiance or artistic plating.

3.5 stars for this dump, give me a break. The only reason I am doing 2 stars is because I have too many 1 star ratings and have to lay off the 1 star for a while. We were up in Reno and 3 local people (morons) said, hey go to gold and silver for breakfast. Next guy, Ya, gold and silver. Don't bother with anyplace else, go to gold and silver Inn. So we went. This is another of those places which was probably great about 40 years ago. Old fashion coffee shop which looks like it would have great food. Hash slinger waitresses and a 10 page menu - a real greasy spoon. But it was horrible. Bad Bad Bad. About even with Denny's and expensive. Pass on on Gold And Silver. Go to BJ Wild Hog Cafe.

I live right down the street, so I am in the "I eat here at least once a week" club. The food is tasty, homemade, solid, greasy, and reminds me of stuff my grandma used to cook in her electric skillet. Try the soups, they are always fantastic, especially when it's some concoction involving ham.

Some of the most incredibly mediocre food you can imagine. Professional waitresses with a charm yet to be witnessed, and an atmosphere reminiscent of an old Colombo episode. If I could be so bold as to say, the G&S is like a favorite old sweatshirt; not too fashionable, a little embarrassing to be seen in, but by golly it's as comfortable as can be and your never gonna get rid of it anyway. It's nice to have places you can depend on, and believe in. If you want something great, go elsewhere. if you want something you can trust depend on, this is the place for you. In my book, that goes a long way.

Always open - so if you're hanging out with friends and its 3am and you want french fries - its ALWAYS open. And its cheap! Big portions - good food. Their desserts are really good. Pies - ice creams - my favorite the banana split. HUGE menu, but not vegetarian friendly. I have managed to find only one non-meat lunch/dinner item. The macaroni and cheese. Thank god I found it though, its about the best restaurant mac-n-cheese I have ever had. Strangely it comes with fruit salad on the side. Garlic bread and fruit salad just don't seem like a pair to me, but whatever.... something to laugh about probably every time I see it. Their french toast is good too. They make it texas toast style and it is usually cooked pretty well. Sometimes though the batter is still a little wet and raw, but more often than not its great. There are several things that bother me - the worst one being the creamer that is left out on all the tables day and night. I have no idea when they change them out, or if they do, but dairy always has to be refrigerated! Also, that's the only form of creamer they have (unless my waitress was mistaken). They have no powdered non-dairy creamer so I just never get coffee there. The only other complaint I've had is that the cleanliness of their dishes and silverware is questionable sometimes. Dried on food stuff manages to make it out of the dishwasher sometimes. Just inspect your stuff before putting it in your mouth! There tends to be a really good mix of people eating there. Old people for the most part. But you can ALWAYS find some weirdos. I ate there just today and the elderly couple behind me was talking about someone having 3 nipples, and planning the next time they were going to have sex. I love this place.

went for teh first time ever on a thursday night after seing it on food networks "Triple D". the service left us underwhelmed...20 minutes just to get drinks. The food was typical diner fare...I had a patty melt, it was so so. gina had a taco salad. While it was large and had a fresh deep fried shell with half an avocado on top, not much in the flavor department. If I go back I will try the house special lemonade pork chops or the tri tip sandwich.

First of all, Reno is a Yelp! vaccum. Such wonderful establishments as this have but 14 reviews... Came here on my way out of town and was escorted back to CA with a full belly and a caffeinated soul, not to mention a blood sugar over 400. I had the brunch special with quiche, potatoes O'Brien, mini blueberry muffins, and a shiny-sweet canned peach half. Yum. All of it. Yes it was greasy, but it came fast with great service, the standard oft-refilled java, and good friends. All of said friends enjoyed their coronary-clogging cuisine as much as I, most notably the fresh fluffy biscuits. Walking out among the slot mahines littering the lobby we noticed the red lamp-lit cocktail lounge, in case at some point during the 24 hours of the day you may want a little eye-opener. What can you expect from a place with a circo-1965 sign (they claim oldest family restaurant in Reno) that advertises "slots," "cocktails," and "we love kids?" Gold n' Silver. And excellence.

Guy Fieri hit the nail on the head with this place! I stopped in for a quick bite before my journey back to CA. I ordered the Chili as a side to my Tri-Tip sandwich with mahogany sauce. This chili is fabulous! It is full of super tender shredded beef with chunks of fresh peppers, tomatoes with a few kidney beans. After my first bite, I realized that THIS is not your average diner variety cumin riddled, powdered chile seasoned beans with sparse amounts of ground beef. The Tri-Tip sandwich is delicious as well with tender beef and a sauce which is making my tastebuds sing and dance! But my absolute favorite part of this dining experience is the service. As I selected a seat, the table service person greeted me with a genuine smile and a cheery "Good afternoon!" It seemed he truly enjoyed clearing the tables. My server "George" (a lovely lady in her late 40s) was just as cheery and attentive. She was had no hesitation offering suggestions for a tasty meal and checked on me often. The manager has found the most genuinely happy people in Reno to man his/her restaurant. Definitely a place to revisit again

The first time I ate here, I ordered a diner favorite - the BLT with French fries. Anything with bacon has my vote. When the waitress brought out the food, she didn't bring out any ketchup for the fries and did not ask if we needed anything else or drink refills. She turned around after we were served and walked away and didn't returned until we were done eating. Anyone that knows me know I'm very polite and always say thank you to the wait staff so I know I didn't piss her off. The second time I went here, I ordered the cobb salad. If you are a salad eater and prefer monster size portions then you may like this one. It had all of the components that would make it a great salad, but sadly, I've had better with the exact same toppings and all. Maybe I'm spoiled now with the baby spinach and arugula experiences, but I haven't had a bland salad in a really long time and I was a little sad after a few bites. I will say that service was a little better. The waitress was more attentive this time. Overall, this place wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great either. I have no desire to come back a third time. I really tried to like it when I came back the second time, but I don't think I will be going back even for coffee.

Had planed on giving this old reno restaurant a better review as I have eaten here for years and the food is always good. But , today I had breakfast and the service was terrible I never got a refill on my water or coffee ! I even moved them to the edge of the table in hopes someone would ask. But , no one did ! When I finally asked someone the lady said yes then proceeded to help two other tables ! Kinda hard to eat pancakes with no fluid to wash them down.

Whenever I have breakfast I like to try the local chicken fried steak. And this was crazy flavorful! Staff was friendly and our waitress was attentive. Recommend this local landmark for a hearty meal. My waitress Vickie was Johnny-on-the-spot with the Tabasco and coffee

Always willing to give a second chance, I stopped in here on 9/12/15 for breakfast after a 3+ year hiatus. Unfortunately, nothing has changed. I really wanted to like it but some places just don't get the meaning of good customer service. My party of 3 came in and followed the "please seat yourself" sign on the hostess stand (no one was there manning the booth anyway) and found one free table, but it was still dirty with a few coffee cups & napkins from the previous diners. We stood there for a minute, and after it was obvious no one was going to help clean it we started to sit and gather the dishes--no biggie, I don't mind a little housework. Not 10 seconds went by when we basically got yelled at by a staff member that "we aren't allowed to sit at dirty tables!" and shooed us over to another table that just freed up. The funny thing was, they immediately sat 4 guests at that same dirty table, and then proceeded to clean it while they sat there. Hmmmmm, can't quite figure that out... We had our drink order taken almost immediately, and then our server came by a few minutes later to take our order. After the slightly embarrassing table incident, things appeared to be looking up. So we drank our coffee, and waited, had more coffee, waited, more coffee, waited. All the while we're seeing people who came in and ordered 20-30 minutes after us getting their food (we're talking steaks here too!) Our server never came by again after we initially ordered. My dad grabbed the older guy that was serving drinks to ask what they heck was going on with our order. He seemed concerned, and said he'd find our server. A few minutes went by before our server reappeared-- at this point, we had waited about 50 minutes. She gave us some line about having a table of 15 or something and said the window our food was supposed to come through was just slow. Basically, nothing but excuses. Not what a good business should tell their customers--take responsibility if you screwed up!!! And at the very VERY least, if you are running behind, why not TELL YOUR CUSTOMERS or check in with them once in awhile? Our food finally showed up and from what little I tasted of it (kinda lost my appetite by then) it was nothing special, just standard diner food. The manager did offer to take our 2 coffees and lemonade off the bill though! Gee, thanks. She actually seemed a bit insulted when we scoffed at that generous offer. The only bright spot of our visit was that drink guy--he was always walking by filling up people's coffee, so that was nice. (drink guy, if you read this, you are good at your job and they don't deserve you!) Needless to say, I will never set foot in there again.

20 years eating in this restaurant and I'm sad sad sad unbelievably sad. We went after a night of drinking because that's what you do, and we waited 45 minutes for meals that consisted of oatmeal, and bacon =served cold, corn beef hash and hash browns =served cold (told it could have been served 10 minutes earlier but then the rest of the food wouldn't have come our together) BLT with fries =served cold, Belgian waffle =served cold and hard Thanks for the free meal because of crappy cold food and stuff, but I would have been happier saying this is the way Reno is, good food good service happy people at midnight and paying full price and tip. Did I mention the cup of coffee? Yes I ordered coffee so did someone else, I got that once... No refill offers... Nothing. The water as well. Don't go at midnight hungry or thirsty. I'm sad. . Apparently someone forgot this was "returning from burning man night " and staffed incorrectly. Seems as if like the rest of the town has an on call?

This place is good it has a great breakfast menu. In Reno that's hard to find. French toast great an eggs Benedict nice. Ham and eggs are good. But this year because of the water shortage the flys are bad !!

Great Monday special-10 oz steak for 12.45! Didn't care for the Mac and cheese though. Diners, drive ins and dives came to this spot in 2010 to try the lemonade pork chops. It's an old place since the 40s I believe. My steak was good too red for my bf perfect for me. I also loved the grilled asparagus that came w my plate.

After hearing so much about this place, I wanted to love it but unfortunately I really only just like it. My parents have been talking about Gold-N-Silver Inn since they discovered it about a year ago. Besides their recommendations, what sparked our interest further were their appearance on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives and their lemonade pork chops. We stopped in on Sunday morning around 10:30am. Since the hostess was away and the cashier was busy we were told we could seat ourselves anywhere. Shortly after settling in a booth we were brought menus and ordered drinks. Mom and dad ordered tradition breakfast dishes, I got biscuits and gravy and my husband went with the lemonade pork chops. I thought the food was good but didn't meet the hype of DDD and other yelp reviews. Biscuits & Gravy / Ham, Eggs, Hash: I like that the gravy was thick and homemade. It had a lot of flavor and smothered the biscuits. The biscuits were actually a little hard inside. You know when you take something that was frozen and heat it up then let it sit and it gets hard, that's kinda what it was like. The ham was a good sized slice, I like sunny side up eggs and hash was perfect. I tasted a bite or two of the lemonade pork chops. They were good but not something I'd go out of my way to order again. It's nice you get two chops along with 2 sides and soup or salad. My mom's Canadian bacon slices were huge and dad's bacon came out well. For me Gold-N-Silver Inn was just another breakfast spot. Maybe there was too much hype prior to going in. I'm glad we got to finally check them out but I think I'll stick with my preferred Reno breakfast spot.

Another of our TripleD stops along our trip last week. I had the Ground Beef Pounder and found it to be very good. The Mrs got the steak and it was a bit over done. It's an older establishment and showing some wear but the people were very pleasant. ..the Mrs even hit the slots while we were there.

Looked online to find a good diner to eat while we're out here in Reno instead of going to Dennys. Surprisingly this dinner had everything we wanted and more. Great service as soon as you walk in and a good amount of selections. The staff constantly was checking on us and never let our coffee get to 3 lie which is a definite plus. Was weary due to a review about smoke smell, but they have their own non smoking section. Biscuits and gravy were very good and flavorful. Eggs cooked to perfection. Next time I'll try the eggs Benedict and one of their sweet dishes like their cinnamon bun french toast. Overall good experience for a diner that's been on the show Dinners Drive-Ins and Dives. Will be back again.

I've now visited the Gold 'N Silver Inn three times and been completely disappointed each time. Generally the service is OK - the waiters and waitresses are friendly. That's by far the best part of this place. The food is bland and poorly presented. Everything about the place is cheap - except the prices. I really don't understand how they're still in business. If you enjoy paying $10 for $4 worth of greasy food, you'll love this place. I highly suggest you walk across the street to the Gold Dust West casino - better food and bigger portions for the same or lower price.

I didnt taste the food because as soon as I got in the door me and my family received nothing but cold stares and an unwelcoming and cold greeting. I lost my appetite immediately and we left. Horrible customer service.

I really wish yelp would let us rate businesses with half stars, as I would rate Gold-N-Silver Inn. My In-laws really liked the place on a previous visit, and after hearing about DDD coming here (it's all on the walls and on the menu) I was really looking forward to seeing what the hype was about. With all of the business that has seemed to generate for the place from DDD, I would think they would throw some money into improving the looks of the place. It looks like old inside and out. But it's really the food and maybe the clientel that make people come back. I thought the food was good, but not great, but that doesn't necessarily mean I won't come back. I will come back because I'm the type that likes to eat breakfast at any time of the day and that is definitely what they offer and it's a huge menu. Generous portions for all plates. But after ordering ham instead of bacon on her plate, my wife still received bacon after stating it in her order twice made for a notch down. The rest of the breakfast food was good but not great. The gravy for the biscuits was really good, but the biscuit itself was dry. I went for the famous lemonade porkchops and they were different but also a bit dry. The sauce was sweet and spicy to amend for the dryness of the porkchop, so they tried but it was more of a double into the gap, not a homerun. My In-laws usually order bacon and eggs or ham and eggs so it's not hard to mess that up. The waiteress did come around often to fill our coffee, so again the execution overall was really good, just not a big wow factor. I wil be back for more breakfast items at all hours of the day and also for the tri tip sandwich that they are also famous for.

Gold-N-Silver Inn was awesome. Upon entering, there is a smell of smoke, but that doesn't bother me. I was greeted at the register and allowed to seat myself. I picked a small booth, but there were large booths and counter seating, as well. The server was quick to meet me and checked in with me throughout my visit. Staff were friendly and made small talk. The Tri Tip Sandwich was delicious. It came with grilled onions and a choice of sauces--bbq or mahogany. The macaroni salad was very fresh, and seemed homemade. The bread pudding was wonderful, with caramel sauce and freshly whipped cream. Other menu items included asparagus fries, turkey burgers, eggs benedicts, Reubens, and a kiddie special of toast with peanut butter, bananas, and raisins (for ages 7 and under). There was a list of pies, including blackberry! Apparently, this restaurant is a classic with 58 years' worth of history. They make all their own sauces. It's open 24 hours. They have reloadable gift cards. There's plenty of lot parking.

This was the first place I ever had coffee, I was in 8th grade, and me and my skater crew stopped by here and got some coffee w/ about 1/2 cream and sugar and I ended up a coffee fanatic and a GNS fan. Fast forward to HS, when we could drive, we would spend hours upon hours in here, and on occasion, when we had a couple of saved dollars from lunch money I would buy a burger w/ chips, chicken fried steak, chicken strips, etc. I can actually remember a time when we make 5 visits here in 1 day: #1 before school, #2 ditch an assembly, #3 lunch hour, #4 after school, #5, later that night. Pretty crazy, but the always treated us great. Due to this GNS will always have a special place in my heart for being a Reno Classic Diner, that has survived throughout the years and is open 24/7. Life moves on and so did I, but I recently started working down the street, and had to stop by and see an old friend. I heard about it being on DDD, but never saw the episode, but what I did remember always liking the food there, and it still delivers even after all the hype. The other day I went on a weekday, which they have special a menu for Su-Th, which was about the prices I would expect to pay, but these were discounted from their normal menu prices, so you can imagine, they are taking advantage of the free publicity and making up for the lean years. I got Meatloaf and Potatoes, and it's some some top notch food. The meatloaf had brown gravy, and white bread served open face. The mashed taters were good, albeit lukewarm. Overall, solid meal, service was a little slow comparatively to most of my lunch dining but I still made it back to the office on time. On my checkout the manager asked about the meal, so I relayed the taters temp. He said he would handle it and it did happen from time to time. Haven't revisited since then, but I will soon and try some of my old favorites.

I wish I could give this place 3.5 stars instead of just a 3. This food is very consistent. I've never had much variation in the quality of the meal I receive. That said, it's okay food. It's not exceptionally good or horrible, just okay. I've tried a lot of different entrees, and I'd have to say that I like their chicken fried steak and the corned beef hash. Not a huge fan of any of their hamburgers or sandwiches but my husband really likes the philly cheesesteak. The service is pretty good and I've never been ignored by the staff before. They seem to have a pretty high turn-over, though.

Well the food isn't bad. I stick to a very simple breakfast after i had a few bad experiences with the sandwiches. The chili is good and made with really tender pieces of beef! Try that if you go. Now the not so good,The service isn't the best. A little bit of a wait and i dont base off that off one experience,i go off of multiple experiences with the service. I wouldn't recommend this place if youre in a hurry,if you have a few extra minutes, sit back and enjoy the history from that building and a nice bowl of chili!

Went here after reading about it on DDD. I got the tri-tip & the meat was dry & tough. I couldn't even eat it. My husband got the cinnamon roll French toast & he said it was bland. Very disappointed.

Here waiting for my food for one hour. I have watched people who came in a half hour after me get there food first and I'm not happy. About to walk out and the reason why they get one star - service is crap.

I ALWAYS get the French dip sandwich here and it's ok, but today when we ordered it to go and got home they had built it on a HOT DOG BUN instead of a sandwich roll. A hot dog bun? Really? If they had TOLD us they were out of rolls we would have ordered something else. Now we're all the way home with a piece of crud sandwich.

I know, I know, I know...why write a review of Gold 'N Silver, it's already an institution? Well, even institutions need love. Go for breakfast as the eggs (any style) are spot on and the hashbrowns can be magical. Go for lunch because of the oddly appealing pizzas, the delicious tri-tip wrap (trust me on that one), and the oh so comforting turkey and mashed potatoes over bread smothered in gravy. Go, as well, for some of the best service in town. Go because the atmosphere hasn't changed in years. Go because it's local, the food is good, and you should. Just go.

Went here as recommended by a friend and seeing them on Triple D... was sorely disappointed. We had a larger party but they weren't terribly busy, we waited about 45 minutes for our food. They never came by to refill drinks. We ordered the tri-tip sandwich which came with one side, we ordered mac and cheese... when they finally brought out the food, they had given us macaroni salad... instead of sending it back we decided to stick with it which was a big mistake. We took a bite of it and it was fermented like perhaps it had been sitting our for who knows how long and made several days ago. I told the waitress who didn't seem too concerned that the restaurant could possibly be giving their patrons food poisoning. We won't be going back.

Just a good old fashioned restaurant with all of you favorite comfort foods in huge portions. The chicken fried steak with fresh mashed potatoes and country gravy is my favorite dish. It's so big we usually share so that we can share a bread pudding which is excellent as well. The staff is very friendly and attentive. They really go out of their way to make you feel welcome.

What a gem of a place. I love places like this that look like a time warp. I stopped in here for breakfast and lunch. I tryed there biscuits and gravy for breakfast, Delicious. Then for dinner I had the steak sand with the Dynamite Delicious garlic fries. The thing I liked the most about this place, is how nice and friendly all the employees were.

I'm not sure what I should start with first that was so good. 1.) My steak was special of the day Rib eye was cooked perfectly 2.) My companions bacon was thick and tasty 3.) All of the waitresses had either blonde streaks or frosted tips 4.) I can watch a re-run of DDD and say,"Been there, ate that!" The only downer is that the neighborhood, although only a block from most casinos is a bit sketchy.

Their breakfast is always good. If you get the waffle, you might think "One waffle? Whaaaaat." But it's actually a huge flower shaped waffle, and deceptively filling

Guy, what the hell were you thinking!?! The service was ancient and messed up. The "salad" is nothing but lettuce and some wrinkled old cherry tomatoes. That's not the most irritating thing. On the menu both soup and chili are listed as sides. The entrees come with soup or salad and your choice of 2 sides (one of which being chili). Yet I was unable to substitute the soup(which is also a side) for chili. I still cannot understand this logic. Suffice it to say, I will not be returning to ask them to explain. I offer a warning to anyone considering this place merely because it was on a food network show. The staff and menu has not appeared to have changed since 1983. Oh, and we even bussed our own table, twice.

Tried this place to see what Guy Fieri thought was so great about it. Besides the dishes that he mentions, I didn't find anything great about it. Old school décor, food was mediocre at best. Salad was limp and seemed old. The fish and chips were okay, but nothing to write home about. The staff was friendly enough, but nothing spectacular. My boyfriend and I try to go to places seen on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives in our travels. This was one of the places. We tried it, but it was just not for us. Would we go back? Probably not unless it was for one of the dishes that Guy said was really great. Even then, we would have to think about it with all the other places in Reno, NV, to check out.

I have been a long time Gold n Silver patron. Since the early 80s. We used to meet the police officers that would break up our parties there at 3am on a Friday or Saturday night. Love the place, the food is very good, the kind your mom or grandma would make when you were a kid, everything is done right there. The Ice Cream Sundaes are HUGE! The meatloaf is fantastic, like you remember as a kid. The servers remember your name when you go back. On Sunday mornings it is a local meeting place for all the old timers, getting together to shoot the breeze, a nice home town diner feel. I am still not quite there with the pizza, and sometimes the strawberries are not as fresh on the pancakes as I would like but over all a 4+ star place. Reminds me of Alice's Restaurant and Seeing Flo waiting tables. A must try if your in Reno, but don't expect some big chain mentality!

This place has some of the best mashed potatoes and homemade country gravy I've had in a long time! Every time i go now i get something with gravy lol. The country fried steaks are huge and yummy, the pistachio pie is killer and the service is great! I think I've only ever been disappointed once and it was because of my toast being burnt and my potatoes. But still I'll continue to go back. Definitely country cookin, yum yum.

Waiter (older tall guy) was awesome! Friendly man, served drinks right away and refills! Food portions are HUGE, consider half orders if your not too hungry! This 4 of us are for $45! French toast is yummy and eggs California are amazing!!! This is a stop by in Reno!!!

Good gravy, the mahogany of it all! The big fluffy waffle in the shape of a flower tasted more like something straight out of a bakery vs. a dive. The home fries were hot & crispy. It's worth the extra pennies to add fresh onions & peppers. The biscuits & gravy were delicious and I am super picky when it comes to that dish. My only minor complaint was our breakfast was served warm, not hot. We returned for dinner & the Tri-tip sandwich did not disappoint. The mahogany sauce lives on the sweet side. The chocolate pistachio cake is unlike anything else I have ever tasted. It's super moist, rich beyond rich and huge. If you are brave enough to face it alone, I commend thee.

5 star service. To me you can't beat that diner feel. A sweet waitress who calls ya Hun and treats you like her kid. As for the food. The sauce on the tri-tip was amazing. Would have been nice if the bread was toasted. The garlic fries are just that. Doesn't get much better. I think there still riding on the "fame" of Guy stopping by with triple D. Nothing outstanding but nothing horrible. Just good old comfort food.

After mistakenly trying to get a table at the smoke filled restaurant across the street, my friends and I decided to try this place. It's really unassuming from the outside. Are they open? Windows are blacked out and it was hard to tell at first. Upon entering, there are a slew of slot machines on each side and then you see the vast dining area. There's a sign that says to seat yourselves. It felt weird at first, but we found a cozy table near a window. Even though there was only one person smoking near the slot machines, the place didn't overwhelm me like the no name place across the street. I was immediately happy when I saw that Guy Fieri of Diners, Drive-In's and Dives visited this place in 2010 and gave it a rave review. The menu covers pretty much everything from breakfast to dessert. I ordered up combo of french toast with eggs and bacon. While they served me pancakes instead, I was actually quite satisfied. The pancakes were deeeeelish. A friend and I ordered up the cheese sticks for an app. Honestly, if someone serves these, I have to try. They were tasty!! Another friend ordered the taco salad and it was huge. But, she loved it. The third person in our party ordered the grilled cheese, but it came with ham on it. He didn't like it too much and said he felt kinda ill later from it. Overall, not a bad place at all. We really wanted to buy one of their shirts on the way out, but they didn't have my friend's size for the 'Attitude Adjustment' one. If traveling through again, I would definitely stop here for a bite to eat. The wait staff was nice and you can actually breathe in there vs. other places that allow smoking. Definitely two thumbs up. And sorry to another poster, but this place is a step up from Denny's, food wise.

Excellent prices between 11-4 off value menu with same portions. Food & service was great. The decor was out of date, but what do you expect after 55+ years? I think I found my new diner stop. Tripe D was right on with this one. I'll need to visit a couple more times before I can give 5 stars.

I come here to study when I have big exams and it is an awesome place. Open 24 hrs with good coffee. Really friendly staff, Peter is the best server I've ever had, period. Burger and shake special is my personal favorite but everything I've had on the menu is superb. I highly recommend.

I end up here frequently after a long night of enjoying the Reno night-life or for brunch (also after a long night). They have no-nonsense breakfast standards. I haven't ventured far from the traditional stuff but I've heard great things about some of their specials. Service is usually ok but nothing special. If you're looking for a solid diner with Reno history, this is your spot.

Staying at the Sands and was walking by and saw the sign that said it was featured on DDD and had breakfast there. Food was very good and the Hispanic man with the coffee was on the spot. Talked with the owner who was at the register and told him what a great place he has. The waitress was great also. We will be back.

I first rated this place 5 stars because I love homemade food. Today I went in, and I seen a sign for a Turkey Melt on sourdough. I WAS STOKED. I asked the waitress for it and she had no clue what I was talking about. She went into the kitchen and came back telling me about the stroganoff special for a Wednesday. I said I was still interested in the Turkey Melt. She left the table again and came back explaining the turkey BURGER and that's when I gave up. I got my stuff and left. Front of the house MUST know the menu. she didn't have a clue. I was as nice as possible and did everything not to offend her. But I didn't have the patience to try explaining the sign I seen at the front of the restaurant. I will be back however because food always does the talking. Cheers.

I love coming here. My wife and I like to do breakfast dates here fairly often. She's die hard on their eggs benedict which are amazing. I love the hollandaise sauce that they make for it. I have gotten that, the biscuits and gravy, and omelets and haven't been let down on any of it. It is all so good. We always leave there filled to the brim but our wallet loves it. The price is great for the amount of food you get. The service has been consistent every time we have gone in there. The servers are attentive, sweet, and cheerful. There are a couple servers that just know us as regulars at this point and already know what we are going to get usually. It's nice walking in and automatically getting a cup of coffee poured for you without having to ask. The only downside I have is that you do have to walk in through the casino part which is pretty smokey. But once you are past that all is good. I'm sensitive to cigarette smell and have never noticed it in the restaurant itself which is nice. It's a nice place to go for a lazy breakfast, relax, read the paper while you eat, etc.

I now know where to go grab a good meal at my leisure in Reno when I get tired of eating at the casino buffets, cheap eats, or franchise places. We came for breakfast. I had the chicken fried steak breakfast with eggs over hard and a biscuit with gravy. This meal was cooked perfectly and delicious. Love: SERVICE - what a well oiled machine. We had our drinks covered at all times and the servers were all lively. GOOD FOOD*** no skimping. watching the cook's window old school vibe tons of condiments on your table (see pic) slot machines up front 24 HOURS! Chicken fried steak with gravy and biscuits were worth coming back for again and the portions are generous!

After a long night of killing brain cells and weakening our livers, my friend and I walked to Gold 'N Silver Inn for some pig-out food to soak up the alcohol. We got there around 2pm on a Saturday afternoon (on my 21st birthday) and the place was empty. There wasn't even anybody in the casino. That should have been our first clue to turn around and leave. We sat ourselves in a booth and it took at least 20 minutes for anybody to even acknowledge us. The busboy even walked by several times, looked at us, turned his head, and kept walking. What the hell? Finally, just before we were going to get up and leave, a guy walked by, dropped our menus on our table, and walked away. We looked over the menu for a bit and then made our decisions. When the busboy finally came over again he asked us for our drink orders. I asked him if they had a cocktail menu, he said yes, then left. We never saw him again. After another 10 minutes or so the waitress made her way to our table. I ordered the chicken quesadilla (with chicken, shredded cheese, onions, flour tortilla, sour cream, and salsa) with a side of chili cheese fries. Once we ordered, it took at least a half hour for our food to come. My fries were incredibly soggy and soaked to death in questionable nacho cheese sauce and insanely greasy chili. My quesadilla was filled with dry and crunchy chicken chunks with no cheese or onions. And yes, I opened the tortilla to look for some. My taste buds don't lie, and neither do my eyes. My friend ordered the "jumbo" chicken wings. On the menu, the word "jumbo" was underlined but the wings were barely bigger than my ring finger. It said the wings average two pounds per dozen wings. Well it was more like 1/3 pound of meat and the rest was all bone. Plus, the ranch came in a squeeze tube and small chunks of plastic kept getting stuck in the tip. DISGUSTING! My friend and I both drink a lot of water and our water glasses were empty 90% of the time. When we flagged down a busboy (I literally had to YELL at him to finally get his attention) he gave us a water pitcher "so he doesn't have to keep coming back". What a joke. Half-way through our meal the waitress closed the area we were sitting in. She pulled ropes across one opening and put a sign that read "section closed" in front of the other opening. We were pretty shocked especially because we were still eating. After a few minutes of being "closed" a family walked past the tiny closed sign and sat at a booth. The busboy walked over and said to the other busboy "can't they read?" He then picked up the sign and dropped it again to make a loud noise. The family looked over and he said in an incredibly rude and forceful tone "THIS SECTION IS CLOSED!" What a jerk! When the place is completely empty you shouldn't treat your PAYING customers like garbage. I felt like walking up and slapping him myself. After our questionable meal, we both walked away incredibly disappointed. Especially because it was my 21st birthday and we didn't even get a chance to order a drink. Lame. With half the town of Reno being closed and boarded up, it won't surprise me if this place doesn't last much longer.

Ever since I saw this 24-hour restaurant featured on Triple D, this is one of my personal targeted locations. As I was driving down 4th Street to the diner, I was blasting Wiz Khalifa's "Black and Yellow" jam. If the rapper permits, I've decided to do a remake of his hit. "Yeah, uh huh, you know what is, "Gold and Silver, Gold and Silver!" Lame, huh? I was seated immediately and look who's greeting us in the menu? Menu: yelp.com/biz_photos/bcfX… Guy Fieri had three of the restaurant's dishes featured on his show. I had two of them (Not at one time). For an early lunch, I had the Ground Beef Pounder. For $11.25, I get a one-pound hamburger patty with brown gravy, grilled onion with two sides, in which I took fries and steamed vegetables. From his show, the chef uses grape jelly in his brown gravy sauce for this dish. And I actually tasted a tad of the sweetness from the jelly in the thick gravy. That one-pounder burger was grilled very nicely. The meat and gravy formed a nice pair. The Ground Beef Pounder: yelp.com/biz_photos/bcfX… I was back at midnight after spending most of the evening downing shots of tequila at a club in Downtown. I actually was able enough to read the menu and ordered the tri-tip sandwich (the other item featured on Triple-D). For $9.50, I get sliced and marinated tri-tip with BBQ Sauce, grilled onions on a toasted Kaiser roll. I also chose shredded hash browns as my side to absorb the tequila away from my system. The sliced meat was very tender with the heavy dripping of the BBQ sauce. This is a smaller dish than the earlier visit. And the sandwich is perfect for lunch and just enough to end my night. My sandwich: yelp.com/biz_photos/bcfX… The third dish that was also featured on the show is the Lemonade Pork Chop and I might try that on my later visit to Reno anon-upcoming year. There are also great and affordable specials for every meal. I used my Visa for both visits. So what do you like better my dishes or my remake of Wiz Khalifa's jam?

Went on a Diners Drive In & Dives hunt..... this one was right on. Exactly as I pictured, old school west coast diner straight from the past. Service was fantastic and very attentive. Food was good, I had the Tri Tip Sandwich with the Mohagany Sauce... kinda a sweet BBQ sauce with Bacon bits in it. Very Tasty sandwich. Will definitely go back when visiting Reno.

So we made a DDD stop here to mainly try the home made brown gravy made from roasted veal shanks. Man was it worth it. Lets just call it marrow gravy. That pretty much somes up the awesomeness of the brown gravy. You can literally smother that on anything and it will taste like heaven. We also tried the other dishes featured on the show. The lemonade porkchops were actually pretty good. The pork was nice and juicy, and the sauce had a nice balance of sweet and tangyness. The tri tip sandwich was the weakest. The meat was kinda dry and overcooked, although the mahogany sauce was great. Overall, 4 stars for the gravy and sauces!

Had eaten here before and found the food good. But this will be the last visit for me. My salad had no avocado in it and I would have mentioned it to the waitress but she never came back . Never asked how things are, never offered to refill our beverages . Just dropped off the check, very poor service from someone who appeared to have been doing this job for sometime . Won't be back, LOT'S of other places to eat in this town

I never had an issue with the food from 10pm-3am, whereas the morning/brunch time is okay (probably when its SUPER busy, consistency is off...) However, when its late, the waiters/waitresses are always kind and put up with a lot of BS (in my opinion) but always have a smile on their face. The bf and I always get: Bread Pudding (Its made with their leftover donuts....how can you resist?! Biscuits & Gravy Croissant Turkey Bacon Sandwich Chicken Tenders & Fries Nachos Mashed Potatoes with BROWN gravy (yes sometimes I just order a biggo bowl of this stuff or even a side, its comfort food at its best) Waffles ANY of their MILKSHAKES Bloody Mary :) I'd pass on the Mac & Cheese, Chicken Fried Steak, Fruit Cup, and Tri-tip. I love the vibe of this place, I truly want to try the Triple D recommendations, but I always get suckered by the Turkey Bacon Croissant Sandwich.

Ok, so this place is a bit of a dive and the décor is a bit outdated. That being said, the food was AWESOME! The mahogany sauce alone was worth multiple visits. We were very happy with the service as well. Love the fact that this place is locally owned and operated and they are proud to be the oldest diner in Reno. This is a must stop on every trip we make to Reno. Keep up the good work Gold-N-Silver Inn!!

My wife and I have eaten here a couple of times since I wrote the review, and two Saturdays ago went for breakfast for the first time. Breakfast seems to be their most popular meal because the place was PACKED. The service, as always, was still friendly and attentive even though they were a lot busier than the other times we'd been in. The breakfast was REALLY good! I had sausage and eggs and my wife had the biscuit and gravy breakfast. I had a taste of the gravy and it was pretty dang good. The main reason I'm updating this is because of the home fries. This is the way home fries SHOULD be!!!! They were perfect. The waitress told me they bake them first, then cut them up as homefries. I love homefries, but due to the REALLY BAD ones I've had at other places I'm a bit leery of them. No need for that here. These guys could give lessons to the rest of the food world on how to do homefries right!!

This place was featured on the Food Network TV Show Diners Drive-Ins and Dives, and so despite my better judgement - going to a restaurant in a casino and expecting quality... I did just that. Through Yelp reviews, and what was ordered on DDD, I ordered some fried chicken, their tri-tip sandwich, accompanied with garlic-cajun fries, and onion chips. The fried chicken was over cooked and dry with very little flavor on its own, and the tri-tip sandwich just wasn't good... I'd say I left about half of each on the plate on my way out, and wished I'd have gone with my instincts. Guy Fieri, you've found many hidden gems for me, but not this time. Unless you're drunk and in need of cheap food...stay away! youtube.com/watch?v=rA86… foodnetwork.com/local/nv…

It was really good. Nice prices for quality. Does it need a hash tag? #DDD #oldschool #forgetitandjustgo.... I'll flip it and mention my deductions. The big one, Breakfast was served warm not hot. Too busy for the server to grab it while it was hot? Probably. Just pay attention to how long it takes when they are busy. Secondly, the later visit for dinner, I had too much or something, but I felt light I ate an elephant. The portion was huge! Let's try #donteatlikeitsyourlastmeal. Now for the good stuff. The waffle had an uncommon fluffiness and was shaped by some iron from another century. Not everyplace does biscuits and gravy right, but it's good here. The "home fries" were those gold potatoes - please do me the honor of adding the peppers and onions. #treatyourself Back for a late lunch / early dinner. The pork chops was 2 pork chops! Two pork chops. Really rich and tasty, but consider sharing or taking some home. Now the Tri Tip sandwich, just order it and enjoy. Breakfast, lunch, or dinner, go back in time and enjoy how history tastes.

I was told by my co-worker that this place is a must while on our Reno vacation. As we were driving to our hotel, I noticed that there was a huge sign in the front saying that this place was featured on Drive-ins, Diners and Dives with Guy Whatever-his-name-is. So, we thought it may be fun and maybe even tasty. We ended up going for dinner about 3 days into our week long vacation. The place looked like we had just jumped into the 70s...an era in which I wasnt even born in. The first thing I noticed was there was a strong smell of stale cigarettes in the air. It was thick and it was dingy. We were seated at a table in the middle of the restaurant between several tables filled with elderly people who were either all part of one party or were regulars at this establishment. Nonetheless, it was very loud and the smell of Bengay was actually a relief to my nose, masking the smell of cigarettes. Don ordered a burger and I ordered the Eggs Benedict because I had read great reviews here on Yelp about them. Shame on you, Yelpers! Shame on you! Those Eggs Benedict were absolutely terrible. First, the hollandaise sauce that is supposed to be delicate, was globbed over the whole plate. Additionally, it was as though the plate had been sitting for awhile because there was thick film over it where the hollandaise sauce had coagulated. One of the grosses things I had ever seen was ten times worse when it touched my tongue. Don's burger was alright. After looking at that yellow glop on my plate, I was dying to eat Donny's burger. He loves me so much, he shared. It wasn't bad, but it wasnt great. We were going to play a few slot machines before we left. But, after looking at the age of the machines and the stats on actually winning something on a "progressive" machine, we left and went to Silver Legacy. That night, I got extremely sick...puking everywhere. Where I cant point any fingers as to if it was the food, I would at all be surprised.

Seriously don't waste your time at the casinos! It's a waste of money! Guy got it right when he had the tri-tip, baby! B R I E F S U M M A R Y -- Lots of parking -- Located a few mins from Reno's main strip/casinos -- It's like a super dive diner with slots and smokers (don't let it scare you) -- Staff is friendly and helpful -- Tri-tip was LEGIT -- Mahogany BBQ sauce = sweet w/ bacon (I need extra!!!) -- YUM, crispy french fries! -- Don't miss out on the bread pudding! -- Don't miss out on the chocolate pistachio cake! (they run out) -- Open 24 hours -- Super cheap! I never planned on coming to Reno but I swore I would come here if I ever did. I ended up taking my valentine here to Reno for a weekend getaway. Since we don't gamble and she doesn't snowboard, our agenda consisted of eating, shopping and relaxing! Oh and a free show at the El Dorado :) Don't come here and try to act fancy. This is a DIVE DINER. That's why it was on Triple D. It ain't much to look at, but don't let that fool you! I came here twice to make sure I was able to get a slice of that delicious chocolate pistachio cake (the first time they were all out). The first night we came was actually on Valentine's day. I'm not big on fancy dinners so it was great that my GF was down to come here. Again, it's a dive but the food and service were great! I'm not an expert when it comes to tri-tip but I know a thing or ten. Not only is tri-tip popular where I've lived in the bay area (Kinder's ball tip is famous) but I also went to Cal Poly SLO which is known for their tri-tip and pepsi! I decided to go with the mahogany sauce. I mean if it's good enough for Guy Fieri, I've got to at least try it. I upgraded my fries to garlic fries. Don't ask me why but they sounded great. The fries were really crispy and came with a dry garlic seasoning. Not bad but definitely helped with the sweetness of the mahogany sauce. The sandwich was legit. I got the grilled onions on it and the mahogany sauce on the side. The problem is that the sauce was so good, I practically licked the bowl! I should have asked for more but I couldn't help myself. What made the sandwich even better was that the roll was toasted. It added the toasted, crunchiness element that you needed while eating the savory and sweet tri-tip. It was one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. If you're going to be in Reno, you've got try it at least once! My GF ordered the country fried steak. It was HUGE and I was just too full to really try it except for maybe a bite. The contrast in flavor was too drastic for me. She ended up getting mashed potatoes and some veggies with it. It was decent and just a lot of food. We ended the night with the bread pudding since they ran out of cake. It was sweet but subtle and it came with caramel sauce and whipped cream. My side was a bit cool so just make sure you have them warm it up if it's not hot enough. When it's hot, you have hints of cinnamon and vanilla with caramel. And it's only $3! After our fancy dinner the next night, we ended up here because we wanted some of that chocolate cake. The staff informed me that the lady that makes it came earlier on Friday but this stuff is popular! We got the second to last slice! First of all it's SUPER chocolatey! The pistachio cream balances it but it's very rich and decadent. It was also one of the most moist slices of cake I have ever had (not including tres leches). Seriously it's so worth $4!!!! Are you kidding me?! I posted up the photos of when I dined here. Definitely come here with an open mind and empty stomach. This place is legit and has all kinds of great food here. Don't let the appearance scare you away! And it's open 24 hours so it's not like you can't come in whenever you want.

Saw this place featured on Diners, Drive Inns & Dives and thought we'd give it a try while in Reno. - If I was solely writing this review on our visit Friday it would of been 4 Stars. -Tri Tip was good, came with fries and BBQ sauce which was tasty - ground beef party with mashed potatoes and gravy was good as well -chocolate pistachio cake was the best I've had ever! - If I was writing this review based on our visit Saturday I would give it 1 Star and would of never gone back. -Chicken Fried Steak was the worst I've ever had! Took one bite and that was it. The meal came with eggs, toast which were fine. Restaurant has a casino (it's Reno) and there is no separation between the casino and restaurant thus it was super smokey. For us California folks who aren't used to eating in smoke filled rooms it made it gross!

This restaurant (bleh.. do I really call it a restaurant) looked like it was as old as my grandma's home.. It was too old and that's what makes them special.. they say so.. and all that smell from smoking cigars right at the entrance.. that is not so welcoming. I ordered an omelet and my friend ordered chicken strips and fries, only to realize that both were bad. I mean, how does one screw up omelets and batter fried chicken strips. We left without eating anything that they served. What a waste of money. I would never go here again.

It's a good thing that this place is listed on Yelp! and "Triple D". If we had just driven by looking for a place to eat we would never have stopped here. From the outside the place is nondescript and kind of dingy looking. Inside is not much better - older interior, but clean and in good repair. Food was great! Portions are generous, prices are reasonable, and food was tasty. My dad got one of the meatloaf dinners (open-face sandwich with brown gravy) which he couldn't finish, so I helped myself to some of what was left. The meatloaf was very good, but the gravy was great! Dark, rich, complex flavor - not at all like most other gravies I have had. This one did NOT come from a can or an instant powder. You could tell some time and effort went into it. All of us agreed that we would definitely come back here when we are in town again. For good, all american food I highly recommend this place.

Great breakfast spot. The service is pretty good and the food is good too. It's not gourmet by any stretch of the imagination, but for a quick meal out its good food at a good price.

Went out for an early Saturday morning breakfast with my fiance. We both ordered the over priced bacon and eggs really $10 for basic breakfast, food came out quick and I know why. The Bacon seemed like it was made for the late night rush not the early morning shift. The home fries were dried out and over salted, and the bacon was stiff as a log, at least that is what it looked like on the plate. The eggs were cooked right and the toast was fresh even though it was drowning in butter. $27 later including the tip at least the waiter kept the coffee coming even though it tasted like tar, I needed something to wash it down with, left with a small box of over cooked old bacon my dogs loved it. Will not be rushing back anytime soon.

Service beats everything! Waitstaff are very attentive and friendly. They remember repeat customers. Cooks also remember repeat customers (We are late night diners) and will come out and chat with you about food when they can take a break. The food is good old-fashion diner food made from scratch. (and it shows) Dressings are made from scratch as well and the Ranch dressing is addictive. (Carrot stick and lettuce garnishes are consumed if only to provide a vessel to eat more ranch dressing) Asparagus fries are unique and tasty and the turkey supreme sandwich (With pineapple ring on in it) is a tasty surprise. A take home box is always used when I visit and the food reheats very well. I great place to socialize and enjoy good comfort food.

Went on a Friday at around 1 p.m. and there was ample seating. I was not feeling like a big meal so I just ordered the half turkey sandwich and soup which was homemade clam chowder. My friend had the chicken fried steak with the mashed potatoes and country gravy. My sandwich and soup were super fresh and tasted really good. My friend said her chicken fried steak was OK but the mashed potatoes were outstanding. The service was really fast and friendly so we would go back and try them again!

Worst place I went too while on vacation here. Saw this on diners drive ins and dives and told myself we have to try this place out! We got there and I'm not one to judge by buildings or interior because some of the scariest looking places have the best food. We were seated by a friendly host and than told our server would be right with us. Our server came to our table and had a HORRIBLE attitude he was in personable and seemed to be in a bad mood. He was more interested in having a conversation with his coworker than helping his customers. I was annoyed by that but wouldn't let it reflect on how I judged my food I ordered the biscuits and gravy which is supposed to be one of the best things on the menu. The food came out and I took a bite of it. Man was it disgusting! The biscuits were cold and tasted stale and the gravy was thick and Cakey. My dad ordered the chicken fried steak and it was almost all fat. Our waiter was rude. Food was horrible. Overall experience was very disappointing. Honestly for the price you will get your food for PLEASE go somewhere else. The el derado buffet is AMAZING and about the same price or big eds. Save your money for better food and better service. :(

GNS is my home away from home. For five years of college, this is where my friends and I went. I've had two birthday dinners here, and one of my friends even did a journalism project on the place - our love runs deep, and unconditionally. The menu has a wide range of options, and I've never had a bad meal. Nobody I know has, in fact. The servers are all super friendly, and they even let us play boardgames there. Food service is prompt, and they are great about leaving pitchers of water/soda at the table for easy refills. Also, their desserts are amazing. GNS is open 24 hours, and was even featured on "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives." It's worth a visit if you're thinking about going to Denny's or IHOP, and 10,000 times better. Try the green onion dressing!

We ate here 3 times in 2 days and all I have to say is it is awesome! THINGS TO TRY: Tri Tip Sandwich... the mahogany sauce is to die for! Bread Pudding Biscuits & Gravy Ranch Dressing EVERYTHING!! If you're in or going to Reno, you have to eat here... you'll be glad you did!

This place is like a local version of Denny's. I ordered the tri-tip platter + mahogany sauce with soup of the day (clam chowder) and two sides (garlic fries for +$0.50 and mashed potatoes). I asked for medium-rare, but it came medium-well. Ugh. The meat was very chewy and stringy, so the mahogany sauce helped make it taste more... edible.. =/ Garlic fries were great, but the soup was way too salty and the mashed potatoes tasted... Blehh.. On the menu it noted that gravy sauce for items that don't come with gravy would be charged an additional $1.00 - since one of my sides were mashed potatoes, I wanted to know if it came with the gravy without the $1 charge. The waiter kept on repeating, "It can come with gravy or without" so he wasn't being honest at all. And yes, I was charged. My boyfriend ordered the meatloaf pounder, and it came BURNT. Strawberry milkshake was overly sweet - I had split it with my boyfriend, and as we were pouring it into two tall glasses, we could still see chunks of vanilla ice cream that haven't been blended well.... I think I would rather go to Denny's.

Guy Fieri ate here, filmed, here, and apparently liked it. So, for the second time, I went to a place from his show. It may well be the last time, but it's not all bad news, even though they've got his picture on a poster outside and on the menu. The menu tells you what he ate, and they quote his comments from the show. I had an afternoon to kill and this is a place that my wife would absolutely not be interested in. Quite frankly, this place is not afraid of a fat gram, and they are unequivocal about that. They are also not afraid to fill you plate with food. My problem was, it just didn't taste that good. I had the special, 1/2 a chicken and a rack of ribs served with potatoes and gravy, a bread roll, and a piece of melon for $10.95. It sounded great, the chicken was grilled and the meat was falling off the bones, but it was all bland, and one side of the chicken was burnt to, what appeared to be, a cancer causing extreme. It looked like an unused briquet on one side, the side facing down when it arrived. The location though, oozes history, and it if you are into old places that reflect a by-gone era, this might be an interesting stop for you. If you are a UNR student wanting a lot of food for a little bit of money, this might be a good stop for you. If you want to eat food at any time of the day or night, this might be a good stop for you. If you want fine dining, this is not the spot. If you want new and modern, this is not the spot. So, to sum all this up, this is a historical spot that a famous Guy has eaten at. Mr. Fieri has eaten at a lot of spots, and, for me, having twice tried the places he's featured on the show, it will not be a factor in my decision. It's sad, but I probably wouldn't have gone here if it weren't for seeing it on the show, and I wouldn't have missed a whole lot. Maybe I'll go back one day, but maybe not.

When I found out that Guy from the Food Network has visited here, my hopes for this place went up a bit. Having been a historical Reno establishment for quite a while, I was expecting down to Earth home style comfort food. That's exactly what I got, or at least for part of my dish. The environment here is much like a typical American diner, with no real fancy decorations. Just your average tables. However, this place is HUGE! I have no idea how the servers take care of that many tables, but they seem to manage pretty well. I came in with a group of about 30, and our orders were all taken pretty quickly and the food delivered in about 20 min. Enough about the service and decor and all that. On to the food. I ordered the Lemonade Pork Chops, which were a favorite of "Guy." The description seemed very tasty, and having not had pork in a while, I was excited. However, I ended up pretty disappointed. The whole dish felt like it's been out in the open for a good 10 minutes. I understand there was a large group of us, but that's no excuse to bring me cold food. I have to say the mashed potatoes were pretty awesome. I'm sad the portion was barely one serving, but it was damn good. The pork chops were nothing special at all. It was basically two big slaps of pork cooked in barbecue sauce. No special lemonade sauce or crazy tasty ingredients. Just simple barbecue sauce on some slaps of pork. Nothing too impressive at all, and not what I was hoping for. I tried my friend's Tri-Tip sandwich, which was very well made. Doesn't seem to have too much meat on it, but I should have ordered it anyway. Gut instincts are always better :-(

I really wanted to love this place, because Guy Fieri has never steered me wrong. This is a solid diner with good food. Nothing that really stands out, but a good meal for a good price. I had the tri-tip with hashbrowns and chili. The tri tip was cooked well, but the mahogeny and bbq sauces were too sweet for my taste. The chili was good, big chunks of beef and a hearty, rich flavor, but was almost too rich. My husband loved every morsel of his fried chicken. We had the bread pudding for dessert, which again, was just okay. But if you are looking for solid diner food, hearty proportions and a good value, this place will fit the bill.

Walking in there is like walking into a time capsule. The smoke, the slot machines, the decor. This is the Reno I remember from the 1970's-80's where I had to hustle through the casinos as a child lest I get yelled at for being there. We got to seat ourselves. The hostess, busboy/man & the waitress all said hello, so I felt welcome. I had meatloaf open faced sandwich with brown gravy on white bread. The gravy is no joke. It is delicious. A touch on the salty side, but it is gravy, right? Husband had the chicken fried steak, which unfortunately, didn't work out for him. I tried it and it tasted...off. And it wasn't as crunchy as I thought it could be. On a friends recommendation, we tried the Chocolate Pistachio Cake. It was like homemade. Imperfect looking, cut in a crooked wedge with green frosting. It was so good! The cake was moist, the frosting was light. We scraped it clean. I enjoyed the experience of eating here. Our waitress was nice. Our drinks were always getting refilled. The food was a hit (for me) and a miss (for the DH). Just take it for what this place is and give it a try.

We were pretty much regulars when we lived in Reno but we stopped after our last visit in late 2012. We noticed a big change in the quality of the food and service. I was in Reno for business and decided to give them another chance as I was craving good meatloaf. I am glad I did give them another chance. The salad (your basic American dinner salad) was great with the balsamic Italian dressing. The split pea soup was very tasty and memorable. My meatloaf came with a hearty portion of mashed potatoes and gravy. The meatloaf was very tasty and also was a very hearty portion. The total for my dinner was $12.71 with tax. I had leftovers to eat later in the hotel. All in all, I was very happy with my visit and the next time I am in Reno, I'll be back.

I learned of the Gold-N-Silver Inn from an episode of Diners, Drive Ins and Dives. I figured to check it out on a recent trip to the Biggest Little City in the World. It is part diner, part casino - but not sure why the name "Inn." We seated ourselves in this giant restaurant and help shortly followed with menus and drink orders. On Triple D, Guy spotlighted three items: my buddy got one of them - the "Lemonade Pork Chops." I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak, which came with a salad and two sides. So I went with mashed potatoes and clam chowder. The soup was excellent. Thick and delicious and had lots of clam. The salad was standard. Then the giant platter with my huge chicken fried steak arrived. The nice waitress also brought me two sides of gravy (brown and country). They are proud to tell you they make their gravy from scratch. The meal was great! Potatoes were fantastic, the steak was huge and not as much batter as I'm used to. (And I liked the brown gravy best.) It was good, and I was stuffed! I also managed a bite of the Lemonade Pork Chops. It was unique and tasty. To finish, we got a huge mega chunk of Caramel Bread Pudding for ONLY $2.75! It was probably the best bread pudding I've ever had - and shit... I'm the bread pudding fuckin master!! Huge, huge portions! A great value place to eat outside of the casinos of Reno. A+ for "bang for buck" and a 4.25 rating.

A friend found this place because it was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives with Guy Fieri. It was still early so I ordered the Eggs Florentine...delicious! The eggs were poached to perfection. However, my friends ordered Eggs Benedict and the eggs were cooked through and not runny. Don't know what happened in the kitchen for that to happen...maybe it was under a heat lamp for too long before getting served? I also ordered a Giant Cinnamon Roll which is homemade by this old lady that has been working here for many years. The roll was a little on the dry side...not as moist as I was hoping. The staff is super nice but a little slow, especially when they are busy. Be prepared to wait an extra few minutes for someone to take your order. This place is also a "seat yourself". Overall the experience was nice...I will definitely be back to try the dishes that was featured on the show.

Prior to the start of our road trip to Reno, I researched the restaurants that I wanted to visit like I normally do whenever my family and I visit a city. I always strive to eat at a Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives (DDD) or Man vs Food featured restaurant. Fortunately for us, there was a Reno restaurant Guy Fieri from DDD visited, so of course this would be a place we had to eat at during our 4 day stay in the Biggest Little City in the World. We started our road trip from San Diego to Reno at 3:30am and didn't arrive in Reno until approximately 1pm. Being on the road that long, we were obviously famished. Gold n Silver Inn looks like an old saloon initially, but with the prominent signs on the building as well as its landmark sign informing everyone that Guy Fieri has eaten here and the restaurant has been featured on DDD, the old saloon facade gave way to modern capitalism. They're just capitalizing on the popularity of foodie shows and seeing these overt banners just piqued my interest on whether or not Guy Fieri knows how to pick restaurants. As you enter the restaurant, Guy Fieri's framed mug and his spray painted caricature is proudly displayed for all to see. I'm a fan of Guy Fieri, so I couldn't wait to eat in a restaurant that was showcased in one of my favorite foodie shows. Gold n Silver has been in business since 1956, which was readily apparent by the old school motif, simple decor, vinyl booths, and 1970s looking carpet. This restaurant even had a seating area for individual patrons in front of the kitchen similar to classic diners featured on Happy Days. At first, we didn't get a good vibe from our Mexican waiter, who was kind of rough on the edges, but at the end of the service, he turned out to be an okay server. On Gold n Silver Inn's menu, food that was featured on DDD are highlighted in yellow. For an appetizer, we ordered the garlic fries, which were hearty and I enjoyed the just right garlic flavor with each bite of fries. The main reason I rated Gold n Silver a strong 4 stars was because of the Tri Tip sandwich that justifiably was featured on DDD. I. So. Loved. This. Sandwich. For this sandwich, you can choose between two sauces that coat the tri tip meat: barbecue or mahogany. Trust me when I say you need to choose mahogany. The mahogany sauce is finger licking delicious. The sandwich comes with marinated sliced tri tip, abundantly topped with caramelized grilled onions, in between a pillowy, soft French roll. It also comes with a choice of one side. I decided on the mac n cheese, which had a tangy, cheesy taste that I thoroughly enjoyed. After consuming this winning sandwich, I believed I got my money's worth because I couldn't stop raving about how great a sandwich this was. My family and I drove all the way to Reno to support my daughter and her volleyball team as they competed in the NCVA Junior Olympics National Volleyball Championship Qualifying Tournament. Apparently, the volleyball club my daughter belongs to competes in this tournament annually, which means I'll be able to eat the tri tip sandwich from Gold n Silver Inn once a year. Guy Fieri, well played my foodie guru.

My second time here, first time for breakfast. The restaurant is well lit and clean and does not reek of cigarette smoke like some restaurants with attached gaming areas. I ordered a ham and cheese omelette. It comes with potatoes but i subbed a large tortilla and made a breakfast burrito. The food was good, atmosphere was quiet and the waitress kept my coffee full

My dad was visiting from out of town and was in the mood for meatloaf so after looking on Yelp we decided on the Gold-N-Silver Inn. I ordered the Vegetarian Club Sandwich. It is a double decker sandwich on whole wheat bread with avocado, cucumber, tomato, lettuce, and cheese. It was a very good sandwich. I would definitely order it again. Our server was friendly and our food came out to us quickly. My dad had the Hot Meatloaf and it was a massive plate of meatloaf with mashed potatoes and gravy. He really enjoyed it. All in all a good dinner experience and I would definitely go back. I didn't try dessert but they had a bread pudding that looked delicious and I think I will need to return to try it.

Very uncomfortable eating here, as they have no air conditioning.

Didn't know what I wanted for lunch today but I ended up here. I usually get chicken strips because they are so good but when I saw the option to create my own burger I went with that instead. I chose Swiss cheese, sauteed mushrooms, bacon, and teriyaki sauce. The burger was every bit of the advertised 6 ounces and prepared slightly pink inside, just the way I like it. It was juicy and a little messy, perfect. The mushrooms were fresh, not canned. two big pieces of bacon were sticking out on four sides. I asked for a side of ranch and received a squeeze bottle of homemade dressing. I mixed it with the left over teriyaki sauce and used it as a dip for my fries, also delicious. Service was friendly. I really liked my servers shirt. It said Attitude Adjuster which is exactly what I needed today. Definitely a good, solid meal at reasonable prices.

I dont know what people are talking about bad service. It was seate yourself I sat down and within one minute my smiling very nice waitress came took my order. Large large portions I had the lemonade pork chops side of chilli. Attentive busboys came and took my salad plate fill my water through the whole service. I must mention that the chili is very good fork thick with hunks of roast beef no hamburger here. If you like chili get some. I don't usually do dessert but I did splurge and get the chocolate pistachio cake. It was off the hook moist and delish.

This place is off the hook. The best place I have ever been for breakfast. The biscuits and gravy were the best ever. The price was affordable and the customer service was excellent.

I was in Reno with my parents for a few days last December, and we made a lot of stops during one day of the trip. Due to the amount of driving, all of us were pretty tired and hungry when we got back to Reno. Fortunately, the Gold 'N Silver Inn was there to save the day. It looked like an inviting place for dinner, so we went in. After all, one couldn't go wrong with a family-style restaurant that's been around for over 50 years. One nice thing about this restaurant is its huge menu selection. None of the items are expensive, which is another plus. Per family tradition, each of us ordered different things to share. Starting off, my father had the rib eye steak dinner. It was the most expensive individual item, but it came with a soup and two side dishes. The soup was full of flavor, although it was kind of salty for our liking. Mom had the spaghetti platter; it was also delicious despite being pretty simple. I tried the sautéed salmon; the fish was slightly overcooked, and the gravy on the mashed potato was also a little salty for my taste, but I overall enjoyed everything. -- TL;DR version -- Highs: Large menu selection; generous servings; most items aren't too pricey Lows: Some items were a little salty; the salmon was slightly overcooked Bottom line: The Gold 'N Silver Inn is a great place for a meal no matter if you're a tourist or a local. Final verdict: 3.7 stars (rounded up to four)

Have seen this on ddd and it looked like the food we enjoy. Have been here twice now and not disappointed with the chicken dinner or the Reuben. In a chancey part of town so be prepared.

Dive-Diner ~ that's how I would describe it. Based on the service, price & the food this place is a solid choice. It's near downtown, and ample parking. There are the pre-requisite slot machines, and smell of smoke from the adjoining casino. It's a busy little spot, and on Sunday morning at 8am the place was packed. We were seated quickly, our drink orders were taken and our waitress was there to answer questions, make suggestions and offer her opinions on what was good. We ordered Eggs Castroville, and Eggs California (different takes on eggs benedict) The food took a bit of time, but that's because it was wonderfully cooked and made to order. Piping hot, and delicious! The hollandaise sauce was to die for. The country potatoes were cooked to perfection, without the grease that usually accompanies breakfast potatoes. They didn't skimp on ingredients and the portions were more than adequate. Don't let the location or décor dissuade you from trying this little Reno gem.

I have ate there a few times. Food is decent. The wife loves their B.L.T. I am only giving them a 1star because they are rude. Calling in an order once I asked for some nutrition information to be told that only the cook would know that. Well ok I suppose it is hard to walk over and ask real quick. Another time while picking up an order I was shooed away while the cashier carried on a conversation with a co-worker. No hello or please wait...a hand up and just wait until I finish chit chatting. I'm sorry I don't care how good your food is customer service goes a long way. I personally won't eat there anymore because of their attitude towards me as a customer. Just because you featured on some show a while ago doesn't mean you are treating me by my eating there. I'm treating you with my business. Which you no longer have.

Been coming here for 20 years. Never had a bad meal. Chicken fried steak is good. They have a weird gravy but it is not bad. Biscuits and gravy get four stars. The make home fries that have onions and peppers. Top notch. I recently tried the meat quiche. It was surprisingly awesome. My wife just tried the blueberry waffle and said it was out of sight. The boy gets pancakes usually. Which they make faces on out of fruit and whipped cream. This last trip he got the chicken nachos. The waitress spoiled him with both shredded and nacho cheeses. Love this place. I also have to compliment the busser/water guy. He is on top of his job. We even tip him separately.

My honeybunny and I were drawn into the Gold-N-Silver because it's was neither a chain nor a casino; we're burned out on casino food as it's gotten pricier and lower quality. The ambiançe is seriously 1970s; think "Rockford Files". The staff are friendly and welcoming and patient, and weather questions with grace and good humor. The menu (avail online) is worthy of a museum exhibit on comfort foods. I went with the chicken fried steak; HB chose pancakes with chocolate stuff. We shared. Portions were huge, everything arrived just as ordered, looked good, and tasted even better. The coffee kept flowing without our needing to beg; thank you, thank you. The wait staff were excellent, courteous, enthusiastic about the restaurant and the food, and make me look forward to my next trip through Reno.

Went here before the wife and I moved here over 4 years ago. Saw it on triple d and guy loved it so we thought let's try it. Wow what were you thinking guy. It was bad and I mean really bad. We both had burgers and both were cold and over cooked. Took home cheesecake and it was so bad I only took one bite. So after 4 years I thought late last night to try again. I go in and ask if they do take out. We normally go to gold dust west but I wanted to try these guys again. The big old guy at the counter was in a pissed off mood and it showed. He says ask a waiter and points behind him. Then says you have to order it first. Lmfao really? No way I have to order it before it's ready?! So yeah done and done with place. It's old and smells nasty anyways and gold dust west is good food they just take awhile to make it. The locals I have talked say hell no about going here and now I really agree. Can't believe it's been here so long.

Don't judge a book by its cover. This place is dated and and can smell a hint of smoke from the attached casino. Besides that.. the friendly service and tasty comfort food with hefty portions made that all go away. This place was featured on the food network. That's what drew us here, other wise we would of never of discovered it. I have to say I got the lemonade pork chops with mahogany sauce (their signature sauce DELISH) the bread pudding the Best ever tasted other than my moms. It's going to be a go to place to get great appetizers dinner and dessert!! We were all hungry couldn't finish everything. Took to go boxes, do we can continue our meal onto the next day which will taste even better. Eat your heart out here endless choices.

Tried this place because the boyfriend and I are huge Triple D fans. Guy Fieri came here and ordered the tri-tip sandwich with the mahagony sauce, among a few other things. My boyfriend ordered the sandwich mentioned above while I tried something different: a hamburger steak (I believe it's called) with homemade gravy. This was still under the section of things Guy tried, so I figured it was safe. I got a side of potato salad and the boy and I shared garlic fries. My boyfriend loved the sandwich and, when I tried it, I liked it as well. The mahogany sauce was delicious but because there was so much, it made the bread extremely soggy. I guess that's just personal preference, I would have liked a little crunch. The boyfriend got a great meal while I was just okay with mine. The hamburger steak was okay, definitely not anything special. The gravy was good, so Fieri was spot on for that part. The garlic fries were WAY way too salty. And I'm someone who likes salt and vinegar chips and I didn't like these fries. The potato salad also was not good and was very bland in flavor. We did try dessert out because our waitress recommended it. We had the apple pie a la mode, which was good. Wasn't the best I've ever had, but not the worst. Overall, this place didn't wow me, but it also wasn't awful. The sandwich my boyfriend got was good, but definitely could have been improved with crunchy bread to make it amazing. My food just did not impress me, which is why I gave an average review of 3. Definitely would be willing to try something else if we were ever around the area, but not my first choice to go in Reno.

Won't be back here again. We came here about 5 years ago and didn't like it too much. The food was not great and the service was just as bad. We wanted to try it out again and give it another shot.?.? Low and behold it's still just as horrible as the first time.

still with great food, great amounts of food, and nice staff. The only minus I can give is the cigarette smoke that you can still smell in the dining room. But once the food gets there, you hardly notice :)

We had to try this place based on its reviews and it's longevity, seriously 58 years! Any how, Son #3 tried the Ribeye with mash and gravy. Outstanding, the steak was very tasty and the gravy alone is worth the trip. Wifey had the Chicken Fried Steak and it got big thumbs up. We will be back and would recommend this place.

Stinky, stinky, stinky. Ugh.. If you can make it past the stink, the food is mediocre, at best. Worst bread pudding on the planet. And, it's not cheap!!!

The food is disgusting. I ordered a half chef salad and the hard boiled egg had a greyish blue yolk and tasted like bad fish. Awful! Hubby's sliders were OK. The two stars are for decent service, but I would not recommend this place to anybody.

The Gold and Silver's Eggs Benedict did not rock my world. The temperature of the food was lukewarm, and so was the flavor. The eggs were nicely poached with the yolks still runny and the whites were firm. The hollandaise sauce was present and that was how it tasted. It screamed out for a generous squeeze of fresh lemon juice and maybe a touch of vinegar. The sauce was heavy, but lacking in personality - it was bland. The hashbrowns made an appearance, and that was the best of them. They were not unpleasant, though they had a slight old-grease flavor and could have used more seasoning. Service was personable and attentive at first, but once the food was served it seems like we were forgotten. We ate in a fairly large group - no make that a large group - and this may have affected the temperature and flavor of my Benedict. But I assume that as a long-time feature on the Reno dining scene they would have experience catering to groups. Overall I was not disappointed, but I also was not impressed. The breakfast was and that's where it will stay.

April 13, 2013 Saturday - dinner 5:30 PM 2 adults Atmosphere - 5 stars Food - 5 stars Service - 4 stars Background - The last of the Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives restaurants in Reno to visit. The other two are the Dish Cafe & Catering and Louis Basque Corner. Atmosphere - We went in the restaurant door on the north side. Hind sight going through the casino would have been fine as it was tiny. If you want to use the restrooms and I had you need to walk through it any way. A classic dinner feel, comfy and roomy. Food Appetizer - None My Main Course - I love a good tri-tip, give me some cow! I went with tri-tip sandwich with fries. I wanted the mahogany sauce and forgot to ask for it. The bbq sauce was tangy and messy. I had to stop eating the sandwich with my hands as it was too messy after the first bite. My Wife's Main Course - She had the chicken fried chicken and I stole a few bites. The breading was crispy and chicken itself was moist. My wife loved the green beans with slivers of bacon. "Damn good bacon hmmm hmmm" was how my wife described the beans. Dessert - Had to get the bread pudding, nothing special, simple and good. Our waitress gave us the sauce on the side. It made for dunking each piece of pudding so yummy. Service - Felt rushed. Our waitress was helpful when asked questions, but she would as 'fries' good instead of giving choices. Future - The breakfast menu looked good as I love gravy and biscuits. So next will either be for breakfast or a late night after drinking with my friends.

We used to visit this restaurant all the time...until we sat by the kitchen and a couple of Hispanic employees were discussing things in Spanish and in a very obscene manner. My wife, who is Caucasian, has a bachelor's degree in Spanish and understood every word. Management didn't seem phased when we spoke to them about it. We decided to give them another chance over two years later, which was in the last week, and the food is always good. However, they have a gambling area at the front that allows smoking and the restaurant is not very well ventilated, but it's acceptable. We'll be back, but only when I have a specific craving for Gold-N-Silver Inn.

We went here due to it being given good reviews and being an iconic place in Reno. I was disappointed with the pricing, was under the impression they had great deals. The pricing was just as anywhere else. I ordered a Bloody Mary, it was very spicy but the glass was large and filled. My son ordered the French Toast, it looked yummy and he said it tasted ok, nothing super special. I will say the wait staff is very attentive and friendly, the stars are for them.

I finally got a chance to check out the Gold-N-Silver recently. After walking by it so many times since I've been a Reno local, the old-skool Googie sign outside and the overall grunge of the place finally drew me in. Gotta say that this place has the biggest assortment of newspaper machines on a single property that I've encountered in Reno yet! Don't expect Caesar's Palace for the decor, as it's more like a throwback from the 70s. It really reminded me of the Top Deck at the Cal Neva, one of my all-time favorites in town. Friendly, attentive staff. There appears to be a little slot/video poker parlor on the property as well. The place touts itself for being featured on a previous episode of "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives." For the food items, I went all out and tried the G&S Heartburn - tri tip, two cheeses, onions, peppers, chile, and creamy horseradish on grilled sourdough. Awesome, especially with extra jalapeños thrown on! I also got an order of fried zucchini, something only a few restaurants around here seem to have on the menu. Prices were incredibly cheap, and the other menu items looked incredibly varied - everything from comfort foods like meatloaf, to pizza, steak, pork chops, and banana splits. I was pretty impressed to see that there were lots of tri tip dishes. The cherry pie was awesome, just not sure if it was homemade or not. Don't let appearances fool you. This place is old-skool Reno. Give it a try!

Gold n Silver was a terrible place, my food was cold, the service sucked. They were short and rude to our party of three. I am never going back there again! I can't stand unpleasant customer service. I am coming to your facility to enjoy my food, not to be treated poorly. And the person that was our server was nice but super clumsy. I understand that it was busy but you are the face and you determine if the customer will be happy and satisfied, and you aren't meeting those expectations to new customers only to your long term ones.

If they only served their patrons what they served Guy on Triple D. The food was poor quality and the service was worse. Would not recommend. What a let down.

This place is top notch! The mahogany sauce on the tri-tip sandwich was incredible, the fries and chocolate shake were delicious. Our waitress, Dora, was first-class. I felt like I stepped back in time to the 1970's...priceless. We will be back.

This is our go to when we want a late breakfast or just some yummy greasy filling meal. I hate the cigarette smoke but I'll put up with it for their vegetarian club sandwich and naughty fries. No frills, no attitude, just good food at a fair price. Coffee is decent and we always get a friendly service. If you get any of the egg Benedicts ask for the heart attack hollandaise on the side!

YES! This is an old school 24 hour Reno diner with ALL menu items available at ALL TIMES and some nice homemade touches, all priced at a nice value. I left with a haunting memory of a truly cravable tri-tip sandwich. The meat was perfect with Gold-N-Silver's mahogany sauce. I guess good sauce grows on trees. A better roll would have made it BTTSOAT (best tri-tip sandwich of all time. Yes, it's a real acronym). Breadcentric folks might turn their nose up, but, for me, this was a simple vessel for jamming yummy tri-tip in my mouth and sopping up sauce. I also had a bit of my sister's biscuits and gravy selection. The GRAVY is housemade and absolutely LEGIT. Thick. Decadent. A menu as vast as GnS's has to have some misses, but everyone was happy with their choices. The service was cool too. Older ladies, hella diner, knowhuamean? Apparently, Gold-N-Silver was on DDD. You wouldn't know it from the giant poster as you enter and the menu's directing you the menu items Guy ate on the show.

I went because of Guy. The tri-trip sandwich was delicious. But I regrettably returned the next day for breakfast. I ordered the scramble with spicy chicken, cheese, tomato, and onion. What I was served was a generous portion, but the chicken had zero spice, i even suspect the chicken was canned, barely any in the scramble, the cheese looked plastic. It is telling when the sides (toast and potatos) are the star of the plate. The waitress was nice, so I didn't want to give her a hard time, but I should have refused the plate. I did what I never do, left 90% of food there. My stomach even got squmish. The eggs may have been undercooked.

One of the oldest Diners in Reno, great prices and good food. Great place to have breakfast at dinner-time. :)

Being from California, I forgot what it was like to smell cigarettes while I was eating. But the brief exposure to second-hand smoke was worth it for the large portions of homemade food served up in this crummy-looking casino/restaurant. Being featured on "DDD" was the best thing to happen to this place, and they make the most of it, with posters of Guy Fieri on the walls and the menu spotlighting items depicted on the show. I went with the Tri Tip sandwich with mahogany sauce and macaroni salad. It was good old-fashioned food, a roll piled high with sliced beef and chunks of bacon, topped with a generous pile of sauteed onions and ladle of the sweet-tangy sauce. Come here with an empty stomach while you're in Reno and you won't leave hungry, no matter what the time of day. It's hard to believe there are places open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, but this is one of them!

There customer serves is great. Wait staff is great and they do well with the little ones as well. Never had anything wrong with the food. It has always been fresh, hot and homemade. Best ranch dressing around. We love this places and will be going back .

  • Heather T.

The belgium waffle was great, as well as the chicken fried steak. However, the fried chicken wasn't the best. A big plus for me was the low price of everything on the menu. I've seen some reviews that claim it smells like cigarettes since there is also a slot machine area, but I sat in the restaurant section and couldn't smell any smoke. This restaurant was featured on Diner's, Drive-ins, and Dives on Food Network.

My first meal and my first time in Reno and my dad recommended this place. Upon walking in, it looks very sketchy and very outdated; I felt very uncomfortable. But, after receiving my food and picking off of my friends' food, everything was absolutely delicious. It's definitely a dive type of place. But if you get passed the ghetto appearance, the food is very good.

  • Jaime L.

If someone from San Francisco were to scoff at me (as they are wont to do) for eating at a small casino, where you have to walk between slot machines and people smoking/drinking at noon while trying to win, then I'd proverbially bitch slap them. Why? Because it was good. It wasn't "OMG GARY DANKO" good, but it was good to the point where I stuck my fork in the rest of my $5.95 plate and said, "I'm going to throw up and explode or just explode from my stomach." I had the buttermilk biscuits with country gravy and sausage patties, and the hubby had two eggs, two sausages, and french toast (I think for the same price?). If I'm too hungry to cook and want breakfast anytime of the day, then I'll come here. Truthfully, it's better than some of the other casinos I've eaten at - but word to the wise, stick to breakfast. You don't go to IHOP for dinner food, so don't do the same here.

    (4)
  • Jennifer L.

I wasn't expecting the slot machines and smoke so just a warning. I am not docking stars because of that. I ordered the biscuits and gravy. The gravy was very floury. Like it was a crap ton of flour and no other sort of flavor or seasoning. The biscuits were just ok they also didn't have much flavor. My hubby got the chicken fried steak he said it was good. The pancakes were really good. Would we be back maybe? Although when I asked my hubby if he would come back he said no. Next time if we come back I will order the lemonade pork chops.

First of all, I checked out this place before I looked at its reviews. Frankly, I was quite surprised at the reviews I read... Expensive? LMAO! I have a family of six, four kids, myself and my wife. We spent LESS than $40 on our entire meal. Not only that, we were given large portions. Honestly, I dont care about the fact that the place was featured on Diners Drive-ins and Dives. That doesn't make the restuarant. What makes the restaurant great is the people, the atmosphere and the food and The Gold-N-Silver has all three. On top of all of that, its LOCALY OWNED AND OPERATED! With times like these we should be doing MORE to support our local businesses. I will come back here to support it and enjoy its food until I move away. I'll support this place over Denny's or IHop ANY day.

Ate here while in Reno a couple of months ago, and so glad I did! The boyfriend and I were hungry one late night before going to bed, so we looked on Yelp and found this gem! The service was fast (probably mostly because it was almost 2 am and the only other people here were playing done slots), and the older waitress was so sweet! This place is one if those diners where the waitress calls you "honey" or "darling" and I loved that! The food was ready fast, and it was delicious! And our waitress was very attentive and made sure our drinks were always filled! Next time I'm in Reno, I know exactly where to get some delicious and cheap late night food!

Greasy but not a good greasy. The eggs Benedict tasted awful. I'm not sure what was in the hollandaise sauce, but it was not good. I'm usually a huge eggs Benedict fan. I also did not care for the service (slow with poor attitude) or the nasty "home fries".

Found this place on Yelp and like the other diners mentioned I never would have seen it or thought to stop had I not seen the reviews on here. It wasn't nearly as awesome as my other Yelp find that Guy Fieri had been to, Jax on the Trax in Truckee (GO THERE). This was ok but not worth going back. The dinner salad was just lettuce from a bag. Pass on that. I did have Guy's recommended tri tip sandwich with the mahogany bbq sauce. It was really jammin and glad I ordered it. My hubby got biscuits and gravy and he said it was just ok. He did say though that the biscuits were really dense and filling, good, but he didn't care for the gravy. My daughter had the steak and again it was average but nothing to write home about. For a Guy Fieri find I was a little disappointed but I guess you have to stick to his menu recommended items and you will be ok.

OK, if you ever find yourself in Reno - go here. It is a diner - 100%. It is obvious that the people who work there have been there a long time. The food would never be something your cardiac doctor would recommend but what the heck....you have to live a little - especially if you find yourself in Reno. Order the onion chips (GREAT) and the Guy Fierre triple sandwich (can't remember the name but it is delicious). I ordered an avocado vegi sandwich and SO wished I had gone the unhealthy route!

  • Paul S.

This just looks like the kind of place that would be in the "1000 Places to See Before You Die" book. It's a large specimen of a classic breakfast diner with decor just old enough to feel right, and new enough not to be covered in tobacco soot. Breakfast is very good. Bacon definitely passes the bacon test (see photo). French toast was awesome, as were the scrambled eggs. Coffee was... diner coffee. You know. No complaints on the service. All in all, Gold-N-Silver Inn is a great place to go for the food, or to watch people nurse their hangovers, or both. If I drive through Reno again, I'll be back.

I love the feeling of walking into a place that makes you feel like you've gone back in time. I bet you the GNS hasn't upgraded much since they opened. If you sit at the counter you'll realize this because the seats are so close between each other than even my 170 lb frame has a hard time squeezing in, let alone your typical sized American nowadays. As others have mentioned, the eggs benedict rule here. Homemade hollaindale sauce, thick Canadian ham atop a fluffy English muffin. Everything else is just solid breakfast food. Other than breakfast I've enjoyed the lemonade pork chops and was completely satisfied. Enjoy!

Stopped in for breakfast to get a break from casino food on a recent Reno trip. BLT with avacado, and a bloody mary with Absolute vodka for $4.50. Cool setting in an old western building, slot machines right on the premises, and good food and drink with quick service. Felt like I was going back in time. Recommend you try this place out if you're in Reno and had your fill of casino food.

This past winter, wifey and I were in Reno and she wanted to stop by this place she saw on Diners, Dives and Drive-Ins. So, off we went to the Gold-n-Silver Inn. From the outside, it looks like a typical side street coffee shop in Reno. When we went inside, it still looked like a typical coffee shop. When we went in, we had a friendly greeting and were seated right away for breakfast. We knew we were in the right place as the menus feature the dishes Guy Fieri reviewed. But he sampled dinner items and we there for breakfast. You know, many of the best places for food are little hole in the wall places. This was one of them. Breakfast was really tasty and the service was very prompt. Good show. Next time we are in Reno, we'll stop by for dinner.

Talk about stepping back in time. This is like something right out of the 70s, down to the worn exterior and the dated furnishings. We decided to give it a try after noting that it had been featured on Diner's, Drive Ins and Dives. We've eaten at a number of DDD restaurants and have generally been pretty satisfied. What I liked about this place is that it is open 24 hours so you don't have to worry about rolling in late like we did at 9 p.m. on a Monday night. The staff isn't overly friendly, but they get the job done. I got a half order of biscuits and gravy along with a side of hashbrowns. Neither was close to being the best I've ever had. The hashbrowns were rather bland, as were the biscuits and the homemade gravy (which broke my heart). My husband, on the other hand, was happy with a bowl of potato and ham soup along with chicken fried steak so maybe I just picked poorly. We finished up with a slice of chocolate cream pie which was rich and big (portions of everything are sizeable). Maybe I was expecting too much, but I don't think we'll be rushing back to this place.

Saw this place on DDD and figured since we were going to be in Reno what the heck. Anyway we stopped on the way into town for lunch and with anticipation entered a 1/3 casino (slots) and 2/3 restaurant.. Interesting to say the least. almost as though I stepped back into the 50s. I should know I was there!! Anyway apart from the interesting time travel aspect we sat down and the guy took our drink order (didn't write it down and couldn't remember the order BEFORE he left the table!! Not boding well but hey lets hope for the best. There were 5 of us and we ordered and waited. Speed and attention of staff good, and the speed of food delivery very good. Now what makes or breaks a restaurant in my book how does it taste. Well good but not quite what I expected. Was I disappointed? Yes a bit. I had the beef pounder or something like that and it was very good as far as fresh (it falls of you fork its so fresh. You would think it was amazing wouldn't you? Well its good don't get me wrong but nothing I would make a special trip for. If I was driving by and hungry sure. Not as good as I expected. Maybe my expectations are too high, By the look of the other reviews here maybe not.

Diner perfection. Got freaked out at first because of the smoking next to the restaurant that made the place smell horrible, but we sat far away from it so it wasn't too bad. This place should not be missed. It a blast from the past of diners and the food, although not healthy, was awesome. My daughter had the tri tip and it was incredible and I highly recommend that. I had the roasted turkey platter and it was also super great. Super place!

If you don't mind a smoke filled restaurant this place isn't bad. By the time we finished our meal my throat was sore and raw from the smoke. It's a shame the restaurant is connected to the casino where smoking remains legal. The wait staff will probably all succumb to some smoking related ailment, and so will you if you come here often.

Best late night grub in town! A couple of times a month I like to eat breakfast at midnight, and since Landrum's closed down long ago, this is the only game in town., in my opinion. Yeah, there are casinos that have late-night greasy spoons, but they always reek of cigarette smoke, the service usually sucks, and the food isn't usually too good. There are a few slot machines at Gold-n-Silver, and sometimes the players smoke it up, but usually the place is pretty smoke free, and the food is actually decent. They do good sausage, biscuits & gravy, omelets are OK, steak and eggs very good. I usually eat breakfast fare, but have had meatloaf, hamburger, patty melt, fried chicken, and all were quite good. Business can be really busy on weekend mornings, but most times the service is lightning fast even when it is crowded.

Woohoo! My first out of Cali review! Anyhoo, my friend and I were driving around Reno at 9AM in the morning. After doing some... uh... liquor shopping (hey, don't judge me! they got Ben's here! WAY better than BevMo!)... we decided to try to look for a place to eat. As we get our stuff rung up at Ben's, we asked the cashier about good places to eat for breakfast. Without hesitation, he tells us to go to Gold N Silver Inn which is nearby. Having seen it on the way there, we drive back to it afterwards. We wallk in and we can instantly tell that this is a real mom n' pops facility. Lots of people there seem to regulars and the decor doesn't seemed have changed since its possible set up in the late 70s/early 80s. We are sat down immediately and to our table comes, quite possibly, the most chipper and upbeat waitress i've ever met. The first thing the older woman says to us is "Hey, no dessert for you guys! Isee you guys looking at the dessert!" Hilarious lady with lots of jokes! After a few laughs and ordering our drinks, we put in our food order. My friend orders the quiche breakfast (and is promptly told that "real men order quiche") and I order an omelette with green chiles, mushrooms, sausage, and hollandaise and a side of bacon as well. A few minutes later our food is brought out... Let me tell you, that... was probably THE best omelette i've ever had! It was so flavorful and I could tell this wasn't some cheap Denny's/IHOP omelette. This here was the real deal Holyfield! Also, the bacon was thick cut and not the typical whimpy thin cut bacon. My friend reported that his quiche was the best he ever had. I sampled it and it tasted like it had gruyere chese in it. It was absolutely awesome. Awesome food, awesome service with a smile and some laughs, and all for not a whole lot of dough. This place rates way up there! Nothing like it in NorCal!

In January we heard from a Reno friend that Food Network's Triple D show had come here, so we thought we'd better hurry up and go before the episode aired (it just did) and the place got crazy. So on a cold January morning we found ourselves in Reno at about 2am in front of the Gold N Silver Inn, ready to kick our late night old school style. My Reno friend said that her parents have eaten here once a week every week for the past 50 years. I think I saw some of those meals still on the wall. The place is pretty grungy. My menu had food on it, too. The geriatric waitresses were all very sweet but I agree with reviews that said they come by your table a dozen times to say "I'll be right with ya, hon" but it took a solid 20 minutes before they actually took our order. There were only a few customers there at that time of the morning, I don't know why they were so "busy". Not knowing what to get we asked the waitress for her advice. She suggested the chicken fried steak and some special they were having that night, a sandwich with sliced steak and grilled veggies. It took awhile for the meal to come (that's not always a bad sign) and we amicably talked and drank coffee while we waited. In typical old diner fashion, it was horrible. Naturally we drank a million cups of it, and the waitress was right there to refill the cup before it ever was truly empty. I agree with another reviewer who found it unsettling that the coffee creamer cups were just sitting out on all the tables. I'm sure it's non-dairy, but still. Seems kinda gross. After a reasonable amount of waiting, the food came out piping hot. The chicken fried steak was very good and my dining companion liked it very much. It was a big, tender cut of meat that was breaded and cooked well and the gravy was thick, rich, and flavorful. You can just hear your arteries hardening as you eat it. It's exactly the kind of gravy you'd expect from an old dive diner like this. My sandwich, while not something that would make it on a DDD episode, was just fine. The meat was tender and tasty and the bread had been buttered and the whole sandwich grilled. The grilled veggies still had a nice crisp edge to them. The thick plank fries were very good, cooked perfectly (crunchy outside, soft inside) and there was a good portion size of them. So even though the place is run down, the food is solid and good and the price for everything was fantastic. Though the service was hysterically "old school" (lots of "hons" and "darlin's" and she even shoved a pencil into her big ol' bun after taking our order), the wait staff was truly attentive through the whole meal, filling coffees and waters and bringing the check at the appropriate time. I sadly have to agree with the reviewer who said the ladies rest room was unclean on her visit; it was not clean on my visit, either. I'm glad I did not go until after the meal was over, because it was VERY unclean. I think if you want a taste of old Reno, come eat around 2 am at the Gold N Silver Inn. It just doesn't get more "old school good food in a diner dive atmosphere" than this. I know next time I'm in Reno, and it's 2 am and I want a decent meal at a good price, I'll be sure to hit up the old Inn.

Not blow your mind, but solid food at reasonable prices. I would describe it as a locally owned Denny's / Perkin's style restaurant, with the food being comparable. I wouldn't pick this place over Denny's on the basis of food alone, but would support it as it's a local institution . . . I had the country fried steak (tends to be my go to breakfast item). Generous portion, with plenty of hash browns, and a good sized steak. I think the CFK is better at Peg's, but I wouldn't turn this one down.

I was in the reno area for 2 day and I was lucky to have breakfast both times at Gold n Silver. Once in person and the second time in togo (which was FAST) I will eat here again.

Definitely four stars for breakfast. This is a nice breakfast place. It tastes like they make a lot of it from scratch. Lunch and dinner is three stars to maybe 3.5 stars. I had to give the lemonade pork chops a try and they were just okay. Basically it's spare rib sauce used on pork chops instead of ribs. It was nothing special. I'm not sure why Guy Fieri would single them out. The dinners are definitely solid diner food. The problem with lunch and dinner and too much seems to come from a can or from SYSCO.

Boyfriend and I were in town for his Birthday this weekend, I saw this place on DDD and definitely wanted to give it a try. It looks a little run down from the outside, but don't let that stop you. The staff was a little... "discourteous" but I can overlook that for good food. The menu is pretty huge, but I'm a sandwich girl, and on Saturday, he was a sandwich guy. I ordered the Philly Pepper Jack, with Mashed Potatoes & Gravy and a side of Au Jus. He ordered a BLTA (Bacon, Lettuce, Turkey, Avocado) with French Fries, and we both ordered a Bloody Mary ($3.50 special) Service was quick, drinks were good. Our food came about 10 minutes later. I was pretty happy upon seeing what I would soon be sinking my teeth into. French roll, Pepper jack cheese, Sliced roast beef, Mushrooms, Onions & all manner of peppers with home made (the good kind of lumpy) mashed potatoes and killer beef gravy. The au jus was just a kicker. I won't lie, it was pretty amazing. I ate half and boxed the rest up for later consumption. The boyfriend did the same, he wasn't as excited about his plate as I was about mine, but I think he was kind of rushed into his food decision. He still ate it all later. Turn around was quick, bill came to $26 including 2 alcoholic beverages, definitely 4 star material. We'll probably be back.

Wanted to try this for 2 years since i saw it on DDD. I think Guy got this one Wrong! Although the gravy was good, It was about the only thing my family thought was better than average. Most of our dishes were pretty dry and over cooked. Service was bad to average. I guess if you smothered everything in their gravy it might help hide the dryness. I really wouldn't waste your time though, there are so many other great places in Reno. --Jer
