I get the opportunity to assist in rescue for off road and bike races in northern Nevada and at times am fortunate enough to get to eat in some small towns along the way. We were on our way home when the rescue team decided to stop in The Brandin Iron restaurant for dinner before heading home. As you walk in you are greeted by a friendly smiling face. We were seated quickly and beverage orders placed immediately and brought out in a timely manner. So, that is the first and most important step to a fine meal. Pride in the first order means pride in the rest. We all ordered burgers and waited to see how this little family establishment was going to do with something so simple. I had a patty melt, a simple burger with grilled onion Swiss cheese and rye bread. I also got fries that were home made and very crisp. There were kids from the area in just to order fries so that was my first indication that I had to try them. I also had a taste of the Green Chili Burger which appeared to be their signature burger. A nice patty with a hatch green chili onions and a sweet heat sauce. As good as the patty melt was I wish I had ordered this burger. The ambiance is quaint the family owned vibe is very evident. We were treated like family and enjoyed the banter of the staff. I will try to always stop and support this place whenever i am in Caliente, I suggest not to miss it as well. If you are going to Burning man this would be a good stop.

Perfect place to stop by and grab a bite to eat while exploring the small towns of Nevada. Good food, excellent service, good atmosphere, and fair prices. Love the old time charm and the friendliness of the people...definitely recommend this restaurant if you're passing through Caliente!

Classic American Diner experience. Great western decor with friendly staff and prompt service. Great place for breakfast, lunch or dinner, and reasonable prices. The food is always delicious, and the tables are always clean.

Knowing we were going to drive through Caliente we knew we had to stop and eat at this place. We tried it one other time and just loved it. The service is excellent. It was cool that when the server brought our 2 cokes that it was in a mason jar. We started with appetizers. I had a "Dinner Salad" with extra ranch. This salad was so delicious! The veggies were so fresh and full of flavor. The ranch dressing is so tasty I wanted to lick my plate lol. My hubby had "Mozzarella Sticks". I don't know if they hand bread these but they weren't frozen I can tell you that. I nabbed 2 of them off his plate and I could never not order those again and he agreed. I had the daily special. It was a "Crispy Chicken Wrap" and it had fresh veggies in it. It also came with Soup, Baked Potato, Macaroni Salad, and Green Beans. All this food cost only $8.99. I can't believe you get a hearty helping of all this food this cheap and it taste so good. My man had the "Ortega Burger". It also came with fries. He said it was a winner and he would order that again. He did say the ketchup tasted weird but hey when the food tastes so good and the ranch is that good you can use that on the fries. We were absolutely stuffed when we left. Our total was only $23.67 for all that food. You gotta try this place if you haven't!

After lamenting that Hansen's was closed, and not enjoying our dinner at the other restaurant in town, we thought we'd give the Brandin' Iron a try on our way back through town. Soo much better quality ingredients, more generous servings, definitely makes this THE place to eat in town.

On our way to camp at Cathedral Gorge State Park. We realized along the way we were way to hungry to wait til we got there, made a fire, etc. There was a few places in this small town to eat. we decided to give this one a try. Cute, comfortable diner type restaurant. Staff was very friendly and pleasant. The bathrooms were clean. We chose an easy meal to share...Bacon Cheeseburger with French Fries and a Chocolate Milkshake. The cheeseburger was okay, pretty much what you'd expect from a place like this. Skinny, most likely a frozen patty with yellow American cheese, nice soft roll, and good amount of crispy bacon. The portion of fries was huge, and looked great but they were over salted, I like salt and I couldn't eat them. The shake was disappointing, not very chocolatey. Our bill was between 10-15$.

Went by here on our way home from Utah to California. One of the few restaurants off Hwy 93. Service was friendly and food was ok. The kids like their sandwiches and the omelette was really good. Most important, the bathrooms were clean. It's a good place to stop and grab a bite/drink and use the restroom.

After a long day of hiking and exploring the Nevada desert I knew I wanted to eat here at Brandin' Iron. For a tiny little town like Caliente, it is surprising that there are actually a few really good placed to eat but this one is my favorite. I have been here 4 or 5 times now and never had a bad experience. This last visit they weren't as busy as previous times (we just missed the dinner rush) so my wife and I had some time to talk to our server about the history of the town and how they get their produce from a local garden that is basically just right across the street. My wife always orders a salad here because she loves that garden fresh taste. This last time I ordered what I always order, the Ortega Burger. I just asked them to add some jalapeno to it as well which the server said was no problem. The burger was fresh, not frozen and had great flavor. The jalapenos were fresh and spicy and the bun was toasted perfectly. I didn't get a side of fries since I was going to be sharing onion rings and mozzarella sticks with my wife. The onion rings were cooked perfectly except for a couple. The breading was seasoned nicely and I am only mad I hadn't ordered these on previous visits. The mozzarella sticks we have had before and knew they would be good. The cheese oozes for days and they are fried right. The ranch that comes with it is one of the best ranches I have ever tasted. My wife orders extra ranch for her salad and we were both coating our rings and sticks in it. The prices are very reasonable here and they have a special every day. They have tables, booths, a bar, a breakfast bar and restrooms.

Small town diner with great, happy service. Food was good, not brilliant, so just right for what one would expect. Waitress was extremely small-town friendly. Worth supporting this local stop!

HAVE AGAIN: the bacon and eggs were good. The pies look home-made, but did not have any. And, they have an old bar with Italian-type tiles lining the front. Interesting place. NOT HAVE AGAIN: the hash browns were out of a frozen bag and not at all flavorful.

I think this might be the only place to eat in town. It was the only place we found walking along the main strip of town. It is a greasy spoon diner. Its really not hard to find. It is on the other side of the train tracks, next to the general store. Good, friendly service. Large [food coma] portions. Tastes good. Menu is the typical diner food filled with breakfast items, brunch items, and the like. On the back of their menu is the story of how Cailente came to be and its fall. Two seating areas: 1) the front where you can sit at tables or the bar and watch them cook; 2) in the back with booths and a couple tables. 07/20/08

This place is about as middle of the road as it comes. The service, while friendly, can be quite slow at peak times. The food is mediocre to average, but quite possibly better than most anywhere else around. But hey, the sodas come in a plastic cowboy boot cup!
