I didn't have high expectations, but was pleasantly surprised. I had the red pork adabavo, which was amazing. Perfect amount of spice and perfectly tender. It was a LOT of food. The strawberry margarita was also delightful. The husband had fish and chips, which he also enjoy. (Everything but the ketchup. It had a weird plastic taste that I don't quite understand, but I did independently verify it after he described it that way.) The place also played a nice blend of classic rock (Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Guess Who, etc) as BACKGROUND music. It was the perfect volume. There's nothing worse than going to a restaurant and not being able to enjoy a conversation because the music is so loud. This place gets that.

5 stars for the steak tacos - they are the best I've had in memory. I also had the "greyhound" grapefruit juice and vodka drink which was delicious. The service is professional and the atmosphere with an upstairs venue with darker lighting and outdoor seating available is also something greatly appreciated. For my girlfriend - this is a staple restaurant especially since it's one of the few restaurants in town open late. She likes to get the veggie burger with the patty swapped out for a bison patty creating a kind of guacamole bison cheeseburger. I hope these tips help you discover the beauty of this hidden gem in Taos!

Beautiful ambiance- we sat on the balcony overlooking Taos Square, it was very pretty. The service was excellent, our waiter (Zach) was friendly, informative, and quick. Our food came out in a matter of minutes, about 15. I ordered the "Gorgeous" burger with beer battered French fries, my husband ordered the spicy Hawaiian burger, and my in-laws ordered the chicken enchiladas and the tequila lime chicken tacos. Pros: friendly, fast service. The beer battered French fries were DELICIOUS. Perfectly crispy and soft on the inside with a subtle yet distinct beer flavor. My burger started out dry but as I got to the center it was juicy (possibly overlooked on one side?). My husband's spicy Hawaiian burger was very juicy and had quite a kick (possibly too much, I would have removed the seeds from the jalapeño slices, but I don't like super spicy food) and had very good flavor. The in laws said their meals were good, and they did not add cheese (as requested) to mother in laws tacos (she's allergic to dairy). Cons: My husband and I both requested medium well on our burgers, they were both well done. My bacon was a touch hard (as opposed to crispy). My burger was supposed to have lemon aioli on it, but I didn't taste anything lemon flavored on it. I didn't like their ketchup (it reminded me a bit of cocktail sauce) but that is just a personal preference. Overall, excellent ambiance, service, and good food. I would definitely go back.

Stopped in today for a drink (shopping makes a girl thirsty!!!!). I sat at the bar and was quickly waited on by the bartender. I asked for a draft beer recommendation and was happy with what he brought. I only had the one drink so can't comment on the food or table service, but enjoyed my quick stop and the bartender was nice and helpful.

A favorite of our to grab a pint and a bite when we are in Taos! Being located on the Plaza makes it a handy place to take a break from shopping or sightseeing. The balcony seating overlooking the Plaza is nice and the service has always been fantastic!!!

We had a great dinner here. Great service and fun Tequila selection. Great menu selection. I had the Green Chili Alfredo and it was fricken amazing!

The service and quality of food you receive is what typically draws people to return to a restaurant over and over again. Unfortunately this place has bad service and poor food quality. I remember dining here as a kid when it used to be oglevies bar and grill. Things in those days were a bit high priced but we're well worth it. But, my how time has changed this place! We stopped in to have drinks and an appetizer with an old friend and were quite disappointed. The waitress was a bit slow for the amount of people that were there and took a while to take our orders and check up on us. The appetizer was just a plain out joke that never should of seen the dining room floor. We ordered nachos and they came out burnt. The chicken that was in them also was mushy which is kind of weird and gross. I don't know how the cook decided to send these out and how the waitress didn't send them back. They do have a good selection of craft beer in bottles and on tap. Overall the prices weren't that bad but there are better places to spend your money in Taos for better quality food and service. I do not recommend this place.

Skip it. It's very pricey and the food isn't fresh tasting at all. Burger is very dry. Salads taste bland. Beer isn't good either. Eat elsewhere it's overpriced cafeteria food. Seriously. Fair warning.

This place was so good we went twice! Great sauce with the sweet potato fries and the veggie burger was delightfully tasty.

Clearly the best patio on Taos plaza. Cold beer, friendly attentive staff & good selection of libations. Good vibe inside & out. Recommend the elk sliders, returned twice.

The ambience is kind of chain restaurant style but the food is much better than that. Sitting on the patio overlooking the Plaza is a great way to sirens an afternoon, especially with a Margarita or bloody Mary. Don't miss the southwestern style putin. The steak salad is also great.

Great drinks! Nice patio! Decent service!! Loved the spinach salad and nachos! A must try for Taos!! Great music! We came two days in a row!

Wonderful meal. Fantastic tomato bisque. Super service. Well priced. Next time we're in Taos we'll definitely eat here again!

I've now been twice and the service has been down right bad each time. From the host/hostess being MIA, and the servers who see you standing there and say nothing, do nothing, while you are looking for the host and even ask for the host 'he'll be back' - minutes later same waitress using the POS system sees us still standing there and does nothing. The service isn't any better. Lazy, unprofessional, and they really don't seem happy to be working there. Food was good, but doesn't make up for the crappy service.

Great atmosphere in the heart of Taos. We ordered the calamari as our appetizer, it was soaked in a green chile sauce which made it lose it's crisp, nonetheless was not bad. For my meal I had the daily special, shrimp pasta. A+ presentation, with two wonderful crustinis. Shrimp was barely under cooked, but bearable. Service was good, everything was on time and we were tended to very well. Would recommend.

The décor and ambiance is simple, tasteful and appealed to me immensely. I loved the large bar and the seating was simple. The service was congenial but very slow. We were seated within the allotted time frame given by the host. Our server brought our waters out right away upon greeting us. After that, the service went down hill fairly terribly. I ordered a drink which I waited and waited for. Our server returned to take our order, still no drink. After our order was taken, my drink arrived not too long after. Our food arrived timely! Alright, let's dig in. But alas, we had no utensils. So I had to hunt someone down (not our server) to request utensils. When we received our implements of ingestion, one of our dining companions noticed there was no dressing on their salad. We flagged down someone (not our server) and asked for dressing which was deposited at our table quickly (again, not by our server). One of my dining companions wanted a beer which they were out of. However, they did have another comparable beer which was just as good. Everyone felt that their food was good. Nothing spectacular but it was good and pretty reasonably priced. After our server took our order, the next time we saw him was when our bill was brought to our table. He did, however, apologize for not stopping by. Apparently, there was a larger party that was way high maintenance. I understand that things happen. Upon walking out of the restaurant, we did not receive a "Thank you" but we did receive a "Don't go into the bathroom". Ewwww-kay?

Wow! We were looking for burgers with green chilies and we found them! Had the gorge and the melt. Seriously BEST burgers I've had in a long time. The melt was on sourdough and I could taste peppercorn! SO good. Cute place - nice staff.

The food was ok. Huge portions so be ready to share. The reason I'm giving this place two stars is because my family and I ate there this afternoon. When the waitress brought us our meals she accidentally spilled an entire container of salsa on me and in my Louis Vuitton purse. I mean it was EVERYWHERE. Inside my purse, on my phone and my vape. Then she barely helps us clean up. The only thing the management did was comp our drinks. That's it. We were underwhelmed.

The Gorge is a neat bar just across from the town square on Taos, NM. It's up a pretty stairway on the second floor. Happy Hour is 3:00-5:30 pm offering $4 gorge-Arita (margarita), sangria, wine & brew selections for $4 and and tasty food from the kitchen for $5. It's a neat place!. Our waitress, Megan, is amazing! She helped us choose a healthy bar food, mixed great drinks and was very knowledgable about sites in the area. The Gorge gets it's name from the Famous Gorge Bridge over the Rio Grande River which is located on Highway 64 just west of Taos !

Our server was awesome! We wanted to sit on the balcony but we had no reservation. We waited a bit to be seated indoors. After being seated the room was comfortable. We all ordered different items. The cod tacos were crispy and the tequila lime taco were tasty! The salsa needs more of a kick to it. The fish and chips were tasty as well. I will definitely recommend eating here with family and friends. We will return!

Great food and drinks. Happy hour is all day on Sundays. Sweet potato fries have a great seasoned salt on them. Chips and Queso were great. Parking may be a situation on a busy day because it's part of the plaza. Are the club sandwich. All the ingredients are cooked and made well.

We enjoyed a great lunch here setting on the patio. Very nice view of the plaza and the food was very good also the service was great. When we are back in Taos we will be back here.

Hubby picked this place because of the patio and he was done walking into shops with me:) He wanted to order a local Taos beer and he was told that anything that had Taos in the title they were out of. Bad start....I joined him on the deck and we ordered Calamari and I ordered the old school margarita. The description made me think I was getting what was essentially a tequila martini, which is what I wanted. The calamari arrived first and was not very good - it was mushy and not very flavorful. My margarita arrived and it didn't look or taste how I expected, but never having been there before and based on our experience so far, I figured that I just didn't like it and they added mix when the description didn't list it. After we paid the bill, I realized the receipt listed a house margarita for $6 and not the old school one for $10.25. I didn't see our waitress anymore, so I asked the bartender on the way out to explain the difference between what I ordered and what I received. It turns out I was right and should have had essentially a tequila martini served in a martini glass and instead I got a regular margarita with lots of mix ( exactly what I do not like). The interesting part is that there was no apology for anyone's mistake or offer to correct the situation, Just a "yeah she gave you the wrong thing" vibe. Overall, this is not a place I would recommend or return to the next time we are in the area.

We went to Doc Martin's and was so disappointed that we didn't have much hope for The Gorge. Boy were we wrong. I had read the reviews and glad I didn't listen to the one about the calamari. The reviewer said it was soggy under the sauce. UM NO!!! The calamari was crispy and very tasty. It was not drenched in tomatillo salsa but sitting on top of it. With a drizzle of lemon aioli. It might as well have been unicorn tears. The tomatillo salsa combined with the aioli was mind altering good. The four of us at the table couldn't stop talking about it. I wanted to drink it. We asked our waiter for more tomatillo salsa, but it wasn't exactly as good. Don't get me wrong, it was still good, but there was something about the combination with the aioli, that made me want to slap my mamma. (She'd understand). I ordered the green chile alfredo. It was good. Chicken was thin, which was good for me. Mother in Law ordered the adovada and loved it. Husband liked his tacos, but they looked way greasy. Father in Law had sliders and they looked good. We sat outside facing the plaza and had a relaxing time. Service was friendly, a little slow. Not terrible. Worth the wait. We'll go again when we are in Taos.

Sit outside and overlook the plaza-only grabbed chips/salsa/queso, but the balcony view was fun!

No watered down drinks for happy hour. The gorge-Arita frozen or on the rocks was strong and very good. Happy Hour appetizers are just $5. Great taste if you don't worry about fat, and cholesterol. Lol Of course eating out healthy is always a challenge. Service is excellent and our bartender Megan was attentive, friendly, knowledgable, and very helpful. (Big tip). Lol The oil is a blend of healthy oil you won't believe. Olive, peanut, soy and canola. Who would have believed that. Oil can't get much better!!!

Fantastic fresh margaritas. A bit disappointed that the poutine advertised on the menu out front was no longer available. We chose our menu items based on what had green chilis incorporated and it didn't disappoint.

I was a little worried about eating right on the plaza but give this place a thumbs up! My family enjoyed a late lunch and everything was delicious. The queso was tasty and my turkey Cobb had amazing dressing! The ambiance was also nice - casual upscale.

Green chili cheese melt with a hamburger patty - so good I came back the next day and got it again! Beer battered French fries were awesome, but I couldn't eat many of them because the patty melt was very filling. Clean and comfortable. I'll come here again next time I'm in Taos!

Not much of a night life in this town but this is a good spot to eat. I loved the green chili soup. Only regrets is I didn't get a bigger bowl. They also had an appetizer that I've never had which was the fried green beans. Definitely have to try this out. It's right next to the plaza.

  • Misha U.

I want to like it- it's in a good location, the back patio is a nice place to sit and look out over the plaza- but the truth is that the food is pretty mediocre.

Sooo impressed! Better than anywhere else in taos, new Mexico! The turkey cobb salad was PHENOMENAL! !!!!! Service was great. This restaurant would do great in los Angeles

We are sitting at bar. There is a bartender, Cindy, is the worse ill-mattered, rude, ever. As I try to order, she totally ignores Dwight and I. She ask others if she can help theme right next to us. She made great Mexican Martinez. Honestly never said anything to her that would make her dislike us. We are Texans and are very friendly and only 1 drink. ?????

Popped in and out of this typical sports bar for a quick drink and bite while in Taos. It is exactly what is expected: loud, large groups of people, sports on five t.v.s etc. We had some fries, oysters and beers at the bar. Everything was good, service was good. Sports bars are just not my cup of tea. THAT SAID, the bar has a BEAUTIFUL view of the plaza and if we had more time to stay for a while, that would have been my ideal choice to sit! Check it out for yourself and sit on the patio!

I don't typically do many reviews, an establishment has to grab me to get my attention to review it, and The Gorge did but not in a good way. My family and I had dinner there last evening, and the food was really bad. First off, the food menu is tiny, and they were sold out of a few key dishes. We ordered the chicken enchiladas and fish tacos, both fishes were pathetic. The chicken pieces in the enchilada were fatty dark meat and the fish tacos, which we're battered, had nearly any fish in it at all, we opened one up to give to our son and we barely had any fish pieces to feed him. This place makes a fine bar, but I highly recommend avoiding it for a meal. You can't get away with sub par food in this part of the country.

This particular location has been several different restaurants over the years, and I think The Gorge is the best so far. They've an eclectic menu, and a nice selection of beer and wine. The service is good, and our waiter was attentive, but kind of soft spoken. Our beer and food did take longer than expected, and it wasn't too crowded. I had the green chile cheese melt, and my boyfriend had the Reuben. Both were great.

Waited a very long time to be greeted. Sat outside on the patio overlooking the Taos Square. Nice drink menu and good service from our handsome male waiter. Tried the Dark and Stormy (dark rum, lime, and ginger beer). Way too sweet so switched to Bombay Safire Martini which was great. Watched 4 ladies order drinks and appetizers and they weren't happy with either. Made us decide not to order food. It's a great location but lacks the Taos charm.

As a local this is a great go to place. Good consistent food service and always professional! Nothing but the best in service and food. So glad it a great place to take friends and family on the plaza!

  • John B.

Came here for happy hour and to sit out on the patio overlooking the plaza. Great service, and a very large selection of both local and not-so-local brews. In fact, the beer (and drinks) selection is far superior to Eske's down the street who only had 5 total beer varieties to choose from. Much better atmosphere. Cool place to check out, you can't miss it right on the Plaza.

    (4)
  • Robin M.

Great location, great selection of craft beers, and a basic restaurant menu that should cover all the bases. Was it the best dinner we've ever had? No. Was it better than average for a place that could get by just on location and drinks? Definitely yes. The ribeye with chimichura sauce was a big hit.

We have been coming to The Gorge a bunch times over the years. It's a nice place to eat, but... but ... but... I've been told it's better in the winter months. The wait staff is excellent, unless they are busy. If you walk up those stairs and see a line, my suggestion would be to go somewhere else. Sorry! The food is good and we enjoy sitting near the window overlooking the Plaza, but... If you're here, try the Gorge Burger, it's really, really good. We also like the Pesto Chicken, The Spicy Hawaiian (really not that spicy) Burger, and believe it or not, The Gorge-less Veggie Burger. It's very good. I was surprised, at how much I enjoyed the veggie burger. Well, I guess I'm expanding my horizons! And, remember to visit The Gorge Bridge before you eat. You don't want to walk across on a full stomach! LOL

Had the ribs, not too sweet, just right. Our waiter was professional and had great wine and beer recommendations. We sat on the balcony for dinner and we had the best weather. The wine list is long, but a little bit lacking in diversity. (I would have preferred a Rioja or a unique Malbec with my dinner but none was to be had.) Overall a great dining experience with stellar service.

Excellent bbq bacon burger, esp after a happy hr margarita. Great location, right at the plaza.

Stopped in here to duck some rain storms while we were enjoying Las Fiesta On The Plaza. Had a couple beverages and decided to have a bite. I had the Hawaiian Burger, which has a 'new Mexican' flair to it with the pineapple topped with jalapeños. Very tasty. My wife had a chicken enchilada plate and commented "very good". A little over priced but the atmosphere was comfortable and the balcony over looking The Plaza makes for a nice setting.

Mediocre food. Inconsistent service. I once had to leave because the bartender took so long to help us. When we tried to get her attention, she gaves us such attitude that we left the bar to go speak to a manager. He or she too made us wait so long that we ended up leaving altogether. Gave the place a second chance and to my delight, the bartender was awesome (wish I could remember her name). But the food was still mediocre. Classic tourist trap with little regard for food or consistent service.

  • Lisa K.

Great location. I wish a great restaurant would open here that had amazing food. For me, the food in Taos is really high quality, and this resembles microwaved food. Maybe it was the few times I have gone here. I do enjoy the outside bar area for music in the plaza. No better place to watch it, and drinks are pretty good. This would be an awesome spot for a wine bar!

  • Basha T.

A consistently bad restaurant. There are too many places in Taos that deserve your business and money. The srvice is awful and the food is overpriced. They need to have two menus; peak season and off peak season. In other words, one for the tourists and one for New Mexicans. I'm a 20%+ tipper and I find it painful to do this when it's that bad. I won't. We had a waiter that I had to "find" when we first sat down. He was too busy bussing tables to notice that we were in his section and the place was dead. When our appetizer and main meal came, he never checked in to see how it was and if we needed anything. He never checked in to see if we needed another drink and I had to "find" him for our bill at the end. Is this what serving has come down to? An expected tip just because you're in a place like Taos? We accidentally stumbled on this "grill" and as we walked in, we realized it was the same place from years ago that we vowed never to go back to. Sigh. We were hungry. Oh well. Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice, shame on you. Side bar: the waiter we had didn't know what The Gorge's signature dish was, he didn't know if the rack of ribs was full or half and then he proceeded to lie about what he didn't know in order to sell it! Grrrrr.

On a vaca to Taos, we were in the square doing some window shpping and decided we wanted a bite and drink. We decided to eat the Gorge, mostly because it was the closest thing nearby. The atmosphere was great! We were seated promptly, and our server got our drink order within minutes. But it went downhill from there. We had two more join our party, and after they joined us, our waiter took almost 20 minutes to get back to them. Our food order took about as long. The food was great though. I had the green chile grilled cheese and soup. Both were excellent, although the grilled cheese was a tad greasy for my taste. At the end of our meal, we requested separte checks. We get our checks, and we had quite a hefty percentage added for seperate checks. Plus a gratuity! For a party of 5, I thought that was a bit much. Being out of town, I don't know if service is always like that... hopefully not.

Good for tourists I guess. The last 2 times we went there the kitchen was super slow even though there were empty tables around. I will never go back if I can help it. The bloody Mary's may be good but not enough to put up with al poorly run restaurant.

In Taos briefly on business from ABQ. Decided on The Gorge because there was no wait and I didn't want New Mexican food. I was delighted with the service and the veggie burger was the best ever. It came with avocado slices. Yummy fries. I would definitely eat here again 'off season'.

  • Alesha W.

Average but could have been better with great service. They were NOT busy when we went so no excuses there. The food was great and prices seem to fit quality. Had service been better I'd give 4 stars.

  • A S.

Seeing other yelpers stating that the service is inconsistent at the Gorge, and have to agree. The food is good, but depending on who is working, and who you go with (preferential treatment to friends?), the service varies wildly! All in all, not a very inviting atmosphere, even if their tuna steak is good.

    (2)
  • Patrick T.

service was decent - but the tacos where bland and cheap tasting - who puts shredded colby jack on a taco? tasted like cheap fast food with little attention to flavor from the kitchen. will return for drinks, but food is marginal.

This place is awesome. Great drinks, good food, awesome service. We liked it so much we went back for a second time during our three day trip to New Mexico. Definitely deserves more than three stars.

We loved it, the veggie burgers were excellent and the kids mac-n-cheese with peas were totally obliterated by the kids. Charming decor with a nice bar and fireplace, perfect over the Christmas break.

We tried The Gorge based on reviews. After an awesome day skiing in Taos ski Valley, we decide to give it a try. I ordered the gorge broker which was excellent my has been ordered the ribeye steak which was needless to say mediocre. The ribeye steak cost $25 and you do not have a say in choosing your sides. It comes with blue cheese mashed potatoes and broccoli. The mashed potatoes were on the borderline of cold and the steak was full of fat and gristle. when we brought this to the attention of server she immediately told the kitchen. They sent her out with a plate with two raw steaks and expected her to explain the cut of meat. The steaks on the plate was nothing like the steak my has been received. This was very disappointing, we expected the Chef or the manager to come and address our concerns. I am a chef by trade and I understand the quality of meat and how it can vary however; The only compensation we received was one of our beverages was reversed off the check. By the way the check was over $75 for an excellent burger and a very chewy and fatty steak. We spent way too much for a below average cut of meat. I would think twice about coming to eat here-there are plenty of other restaurants in Taos they can provide excellent quality food and if anything goes wrong - a manager or the chef will come address your concerns. Consumer beware!!!

  • Jean A.

Service is cheerful. Crabcakes were ok - nothing terrific. Dessert was a disaster. Under no circumstances should you order the creme brulee. No berries (plural) arrived and the server was dismissive of my query...."where are the berries." All in all, if you need a drink and want to overlook the plaza, then this is your only option. If you seek a real meal, any eatery within two blocks of the plaza is a better option.

Great location on second floor overlooking the Plaza in Taos. We had a group of 5 and sat on the patio. The service was touch and go--the waiter was a little bit arrogant, and seemed to barely tolerate our questions, except for certain members of our party. He also did not offer any voluntary information about menu items. The food quality was good and the drinks were great. The best thing about this place is the exclusive location that it holds on the square. I would have given this a 4, if the service had been better.

Really sad meal last week at a locals place with a cozy fireplace and fun pub atmosphere. Ordered the Rueben - previously a lean, mean sandwich that's best of any I've ever had. This time? One third the sandwich was thick, fatty, stretchy gristle. Gross. Didn't send it back since everyone else was digging into their awesome burgers and the kitchen was closing. If this was the last of the corned beef, the cook should have nixed it so that I could have ordered something else. Bad call. No kitchen should serve THAT. Glad I had the raspberry Mojito to enjoy.

Very disappointed with my visit here. Bartenders were extremely rude. Flat out, rude. Was very surprised. The service was mediocre. Food WAY overpriced. Atmosphere nice! That was a good thing. Seriously though, hire new bartenders with some manners and the ability to smile.

Wow! Judging by The Gorge's less than stellar reviews, had I yelped this place before eating here I would definitely have crossed it off my list! This was a drive by for us... we hadn't planned much for Taos but were starving when we walked by so low and behold.... Apparently I enjoyed this place far more than some of my fellow yelpers have. I had a vegetarian black bean soup and a couple of margaritas. The soup was out-of-this-world! Delicious. I loved the squeezed lime over it. Hubby had to hold me back from going back into the kitchen and begging someone for the recipe. PLEASE!!! Someone send me the recipe! Hubby had a burger with sweet potato fries and he was happy/satisfied. The margaritas were good. Service was a little on the slow side but that might have been amplified by how hungry we were. Not a fancy place but definitely did the trick!

About the only thing this place has going for it is the fact that the shirts are funny and the location is good. I came in on a sunny Saturday afternoon with my boyfriend and ordered a wine and a beer as well as the caprese salad, buffalo sliders and a bowl of the green chili soup. Let's start with the good news, the drinks were great and the glasses were clean. That's about where the good ends. The tomatoes on the caprese may as well have been cut using a machete not to mention they were mushy. There was a light drizzle of cheap olive oil on them, a sparse amount of basil and a few rounds of mozzarella cheese and that was it. Not a single grain of salt or pepper had touched the plate. The green chili stew, while having a nice spice level to it, tasted like a Campbell's chicken noodle soup base. And the sliders... don't even get me started! How can you make buffalo sliders, with cheese, be completely flavorless??! Our waiter was darn near the most awkward person I've ever met. He stood next to the table, saying nothing on multiple occasions. Needless to say, I would never go back to this place unless it was for drinks on the patio.

So the burgers and drinks are alright. Service is hit or miss. Good burgers, but probably the worst pastrami sandwich I've ever had. My dog would have been disappointed. But hey, you win some you lose some. I'd roll with Mary Jane's tho if you're lookin for good food!

Honestly, the only thing matching here was the prices to the food quality. Everything was okay, and the prices accurately reflected that, but the wait staff left a lot to be desired. Long absences, pushy once we asked for our check, and the most indifferent and unfriendly treatment of skiers in what is *gasp* a ski-town. I won't come here again.

I'm sorry, but I have to start off by saying thank god Olgive's is gone!! We always wondered how it stayed open. Granted it had a primo spot on the Taos Plaza - with a second story covered balcony for enjoying the beautiful New Mexico weather. But the food - ick. On to The Gorge, the new restaurant in the aforementioned primo spot. What a huge improvement! Hubby and I both tried the fried cod tacos, served with black beans. The kids had cheeseburger, quesadilla and fries (who would have thought?). The food came out quickly, service was friendly and prompt (and they seated us in the corner a bit away from others AND dealt with our kids well). Hubby and I scarfed our tacos, and ate a good portion of the kids' fries (just love the beer battered fries, so popular in Mexican places and good bars). I was bad and had a $10.00 margarita, which was good but, obviously, a tad overpriced. It tasted yummy and I admit that I didn't care because I was on vacation!!

The food was pretty good/standard, nothing amazing, but good! Nice location...and the margaritas were good but could have used a little more booze ;)

Two words: chipotle ketchup. I usually leave ketchup alone, but their beer-battered fries dunked in that delicious nectar was so good that I left none behind. The burger could have used a lot more seasoning, but was still pretty tasty. Staff were friendly and helpful with everyone as far as I could tell, even when patrons were exceedingly difficult. Bar service is a bit (to way) slow due to inefficient setup, not shoddy bartending.

Always trust your instinct. Should have listened to mine which told me not to eat at a restaurant that was nearly empty for lunch. Now I know why. The bad experience happened when the waiter couldn't tell the difference between the Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc we had ordered. The Caprese salad had good tomatoes but the mozzarella had the consistency of rubber. House made the menu exclaims. I think not. My partner got the spinach and Brie salad but the kitchen failed to put any Brie on top. Not my fault exclaimed the waiter. Only after I insisted on speaking to the manager did they deduct the cost of one salad. Stay away from this place.

"We Cheat Drunks and Tourists," was what one of the backs of a waiter's t-shirt said. I'm not sure that that was the best decision that a business ever had, but not all of the shirts said the same thing. The service was great, and perhaps even overstaffed and the atmosphere was sleek and new. Otherwise, the food was pretty good but could use some improvement. My BLT was really dry as was my mom's grilled chicken sandwich. I didn't have any of her beer battered fries, but they looked pretty limp. We also ordered calamari that wasn't cooked quite right. I'm guessing that this business was pretty new and has some kinks to work out. Give it time and I think The Gorge might be a pretty good spot.

Looked to be a lot of locals which is always a good sign. A decent allergy menu- I was able to try bison sliders, nachos, sweet potato fries & their green child stew. Food was pretty solid, margaritas were strong & good. Service was fine. Overall a good find near the square & always nice to find a place with multiple options for allergic patrons.

Stopped by The Gorge as we were craving an ice cold beverage in a hot summer day. It just so happened to be Happy Hour (M-F 3pm-5 30pm, 9pm-10pm). The hostess kindly took us to our table where we placed our orders with the server. We ordered margaritas and a sangria. Unfortunately, it was all down hill from there. The margaritas were incredibly sour! So sour, it was like drinking straight from a lime. And the sangria tasted like cinnamon and mole (yes, like the Mexican red/brown sauce). Now don't get me wrong, I love mole and all things Mexican-food, but don't put that in my drink! Maybe it was a fluke batch and someone knocked over a spice container into the sangria mix. Or the bartender was having a bad day and forgot to put sweet-n-sour mix into the margarita. Regardless of whatever circumstances, we left immediately after, not even wanting to finish our drinks. Save yourself the disappointment and money. Don't bother with this place, unless you're planning on ordering a beer. At least they come in a bottle and can't mess that up.

Went here the last week of July, after a white water rapids adventure. We had a party of 6, and didn't have to wait at all...of course it was 5:30, but it was a Saturday. I ordered the ahi tuna tacos, but was told they were out, so changed to the tequila lime chicken. The rest of the group had fish and chips, fish sandwich, and cheese enchiladas. The cheese enchiladas were a bit spicy for my daughter, but everything was first rate. I would definitely recommend this to visitors to Taos

The burgers, the beers, the local philosophy and mentality. Great fresh food and an awesome patio bar.

The Gorge wasn't my choice, but we were in the Square on vacation, and there it was. OK, I can deal. The service itself was incredibly mixed. Our server was clearly over-stretched even though the restaurant wasn't completely packed. The wait for the food, as well, was far too long for how many people were there: it was a good 25 minute wait after ordering. Now, the food itself wasn't bad. I got the fried fish sandwich (it had a far fancier name, but that's the gist). Here's the part I couldn't grasp: how could I get a sandwich, with bread that had clearly once been grilled, but the bread itself was literally out-of-the-fridge cold? Were you re-using bread? To make it worse, out of the six of us that ordered, at least three of the orders had something "wrong" about them. I do think The Gorge has potential, but there are some clear management failures at work, especially in the kitchen. As I mentioned, the food wasn't bad, but it also clearly wasn't worth the price (check out the t-shirt comment in these reviews). In addition, wait staff should be managed so they aren't out of breath running from table to table, then kitchen to table, taking care of screwed up orders. This place has potential, but it needs fixing at the top, first.

Best veggie burger ever. They are handmade and not the frozen type. The sweet potato fries are delicious. I will make this a regular stop when I'm in Taos. Our server, Monica made us feel at home.

I started this review in July while my wife and I were on our vacation trip (on our Harleys) thru the West for 2600+ miles. Taos was our second night stop after going across OK the day before. We had an exceent ride thru the mountains and rain from Guymon to Taos. Taos was such a wonderful place, it was a return visit for us from 10+ years preciously. So, here's the review as written in July: Awesome dinner last night on the balcony overlooking the plaza. The drinks and food were super. The BBQ ribs were tender and tasty. Great seasoned sweet potato fries with Chipotle ketchup absolutely excellent! Chicken piccata was excellent. Service was prompt friendly and on his A game! An excellent spot for a wonderful dinner overlooking the plaza in Taos. Don't miss it if you're in town.

I love good cheap food and I love good expensive food - I won't discriminate. But what really gets to me is restaurants with mediocre food that try to trick their patrons into thinking the food is better by charging more than it's worth. The Gorge isn't exorbitantly expensive, but it's overpriced for what you get. My water glass tasted salty (so probably not that clean). The ahi tuna tacos had mushy, unappealing chunks of tuna. On the plus side, the restaurant itself is sleek and beautiful, and the sweet potato fries with chipotle ketchup were pretty tasty.

Order the margarita! Pleasant service. Not too loud. Bright. Hardwood floors. Fireplace. In/out seating. Decent prices.

Great location at the corner of the square. We arrived in the mid-afternoon lull on a Friday. We didn't feel like mexican, nuevo or otherwise. I was a little concerned about the ho-hum reviews, but decided to give it a try. The service was good, drinks kept fresh, despite the obvious transitioning into the dinner hour. I had the pork sliders, only available during happy hour. They made me very happy. The pork was perfectly cooked and the sauce had a sweet early flavor, with a nice hot after bite. I coupled it with the green chile stew which was safe, not hot enough to please a chile-head. My companions had the Gorgeous burger and the Reuben. They both were highly pleased. I tasted the Reuben and loved it. The meat was lightly grilled before creating the sandwich, and I would rate it as one of the best I have had. The fries though were serviceable, not outstanding. I would come back without hesitation. It also looks like a good place for late night which we will check on future visit. A little bit snappier service and better chile stew and fries would have gotten a 5.

Loved, loved this little place. Thank you to all the "yelp-ers" who wrote reviews, otherwise I would not have tried it based on looks alone. Had a great atmosphere and everything we ordered was very tasty. This will definitely be a repeat visit if we go back to Taos.

Great lunch (burger and salad). Friendly service. We were not at the bar, but we overheard the bartender, who was giving detailed beer advice and was generally being very personable. Excellent location on the Plaza.

I used to go here when it was Ogilves, which had very good food. Finally went back now that the name has changed and sadly the food has changed as well. It is okay food, but nothing spectacular.

I came here because it was a nice afternoon and I like sitting on the balcony overlooking the plaza. The servers were cheerful and efficient -- no complaints there. The house margarita is large and tasty, but doesn't seem to have much "kick." I ordered the nachos with added chicken, and was pleased with the generous serving. However, they charge for EVERY change you make.: I asked for no sour cream and extra guacamole. They left off the sour cream, but charged me for a side of guacamole. They didn't put much salsa on the nachos, so I later asked for more salsa, and was charged for that too. (It wasn't worth it: it tasted like the kind that comes in big plastic jars from a restaurant supplier. At least the guacamole tasted fresh!) By contrast, the previous evening I ate at a competing restaurant (which shall remain nameless): I asked for a side salad instead of the potato that came with my entree, and they made the substitution without charging me for it. They're a class act. This place isn't. Next time I'll order a drink and plan to eat elsewhere.
