Stayed in this B&B with my mother on a quick weekend trip to Taos. The location is very convenient for walking to galleries and shops as well as the plaza. The historic buildings are beautiful and each of the many rooms are a little different. Upon our arrival, their cookie and tea time was taking place with probably a dozen different kinds of delicious cookies to choose from. The weather was chilly while we were visiting, but the room stayed very cozy and warm. We stayed in the San Tomas room and it was sunny, beautiful and authentic with retablos and santos as decorations, saltillo tile flooring, a beautiful wood-burning fireplace (which we didn't even need to use) and a nice big king bed with luxurious bedding. In the morning, head into the dining room for breakfast. Their house-made granola is to die for (I'm still trying to figure out how to copy it) and you will also receive yogurt, milk, coffee, orange juice, a choice of muffins, and finally a choice of a hot dish. Everything was wonderful. I'll have a hard time choosing any other place to stay in Taos from now on.

They were able to check us in for a very reasonable price ($115) at the last minute when our other hotel fell through. We were so glad to stay here! Tea time offered in the afternoon with a wide variety of homemade desserts with coffee tea or lemonade. Room was so cozy and the location can't be beat. Only sad that we have to check out prior to the free breakfast. Only lost a star for no wi-fi in the room, but I would definitely stay here the next time we were in town.

This place is great. Perfect location, quiet, comfortable bed, quaint rooms and a yummy, large and free breakfast. I really have not one complaint and hope to stay again

Clean, quiet, and walking distance to the best part of Taos. Stayed here on our New Mexico road trip; was our best stop. Comfy, air conditioned rooms (WiFi only in common building), a delicious breakfast each morning (beginning at 7:30am) and afternoon tea (3-5pm). The ladies who prep and serve are dynamos in the kitchen (everything was delicious...hot egg dish, fresh muffins...YUMMMM) and make sure each guest is well-cared for! Book early and get a better deal.

I really enjoyed my stay here. It's not your typical B & B. The whole place is done in a traditional adobe style and contains about 30 individual different rooms, spaced out over a campus-like environment. The main big building has a lobby, lounge and a large dining room. There's also an outdoor patio right next to the dining room. It was the off season during my stay, so they were only operating about 5 rooms at the time. My room was located right across from the lobby which was super convenient for me. Regarding my room, sure it wasn't perfect, but it was comfy, clean, and it had an actual working adobe fireplace in the corner. Real hardwood floors and real wooden beams in the ceiling too. Real New Mexican. The complimentary breakfast was great and run by a little old lady named Cecilla. No menu. Just tell her what you want. My God if I could have taken home that large jar of granola I would have. It was the best granola I've ever had. When you consider you're probably receiving about a $15 breakfast here, the price of the room doesn't seem so bad. I read that one reviewer wasn't happy with his room, but all I can say is that perhaps the rooms farther away from the lobby don't get best attention like the ones closer to the lobby. If I were to stay here again, I would request again a room close to the lobby. I suspect those closer rooms get more frequent usage and therefore get better attention than the rooms which are used sparingly throughout the year. That's just my guess.

My brother and I were making our way through the area backpacking and found this place in off-season late July. What a gem. The decor was neat colonial. Rooms were clean and the staff was friendly. The breakfast was included and you get to eat communally an have the opportunity to chat with new people. Breakfast was excellent mix of fresh granola, waffles and a bake egg dish serve with red/green chile - along with coffee, fruit and juice. A great value for the price. I'll have to come back with the wife.

The first thing to know here is that pretty much every room is different -- and a different price. This is an amalgamation of at least a half dozen different properties and tiny inns -- from houses that used to be single-family dwellings, to literal motor-hotel kinds of rooms. Our favorite room has a king bed, in the first building facing Kit Carson -- a huge, high-ceiling'd place full of heavy NM furniture, pottery, icons, and art. It's a little on the pricey side for what we normally spend, but the location can't be beat -- and the place is terrifically comfortable. Their breakfasts feature an excellent egg cassarole, and their granola mix served with yogurt, as well as many pastry/muffin kinds of treats -- but the granola is what I liked best. I've just about given up on B&Bs -- but this one is a great night's (or week's) stay. Just a lovely place -- cobbled together from all kinds of architecture, furnishings, and historical periods.

My friends and I were camping north of Taos for a few days, when an unidentified animal incident encouraged us to find a hotel for our last night. Given that April is low season, we were able to negotiate a fantastic rate on a double queen room. The hotel is absolutely beautiful and has so much personal detail. The owners have amazing taste and feature some incredible paintings on site. Apparently the inn used to be an artist's residence turned government building, which was then transformed by the owner's father. It's definitely worth a walk around the grounds to check the place out. Since breakfast was included with our room, we were sure to be there bright and early. The staff was very doting and sweet, and the food was great (homemade granola with fresh peaches and cream!)...not to mention the gorgeous hand painted dishes! We had a great time at Casa Benavides. The location is superb (right off the main strip within easy walking distance to restaurants, shops, etc.), the inn was top notch, and the staff was very attentive. I can't wait to get back here in the future!

Spent a wonderful weekend in taos, and this establishment made our stay even more special. Staff were all very friendly and welcoming. Loved the yummy breakfasts every morning and tea and goodies every afternoon. Our room was comfortable and roomy. Would stay there again next time we're in town.

Loved the staff, excellent homemade breakfast but my favorite was the granola. This Inn is centrally located and is within walking distance to the plaza.

Can't believe I didn't review sooner! We were here 10 years ago for our honeymoon. The place is a gem. Our favorite room was a bit run down like it was 10 years ago: toilet handle still sticks, thermostat didn't work, electric sockets filled with extension cords, the mattress was the same old thing as well. Needs a new one. The room was otherwise comfy and clean. Amazing breakfast. Famous granola. Sweet staff. Great location for walking Taos. The place just glows with joy.

No one should pass up the chance of staying at such a quaint B & B. The McCarthy's have provided an excellent presentation of not only cute rooms with the small amenities of excellent little wash gels but the tea time (3pm daily) is to die for, amazingly delicious within a well decorated dining room. The most impressive morning breakfast we have ever had the pleasure of dining. You will not go away hungry. Home made muffins, egg casserole, yogurt with homemade granola and juice. They can be dubbed excellent B&B chefs And You don't have to go out and find better coffee than what they served. Ahhhhhh~! Only 2 blocks from the old downtown plaza where you;ll find bohemian shops and great dining, Don't miss out on the opportunity.

I love this taos bed and breakfast. Each room is individually designed so it's exciting to choose between the different exotic themes. The innkeepers, Barbara and Tom, have been locals their entire life and have loads of stories to share. The food is delicious and the location is incredibly central

First off, let me preface this review by stating that my boyfriend and I stayed at Casa Benavides over Christmas in 2011. I always thought that he had written a review for this lovely B&B, only to recently realize that he had forgotten about it. Sadly, we all know that negative word-of-mouth spreads like wildfire and positive reviews tend to fall by the wayside, so I wanted to be sure to get this out there, even if it is a year later. Like I stated previously, my boyfriend and I stayed at Casa Benavides during a ski vacation over Christmas last year. He stayed for approximately 10 days and I stayed for nearly a week. I don't know what he payed for the room, but I can tell you for sure that he booked the cheapest room available through bedandbreakfast.com . We arrived midweek to find that we were possibly the only guests checked in that night, which honestly concerned me a bit. However, we were thrilled when we received the keys to our room and realized that we had been upgraded. Casa Benavides did fill up, but not until that Friday night. I was surprised to see that Casa Benavides is a rather large property made up of multiple dwellings, which sit on Kit Carson - a small, very easily missed road, as we experienced on multiple occasions, in the Village of Taos. We arrived in the dead of Winter, so their landscaping wasn't exactly flourishing, but the buildings themselves were obviously well maintained. Parking was easily available, and the setting was quiet. Our room was in a separate building from the main guest house, but was just across the way from the kitchen and dining area, which proved to be ideal in the mornings. Our windows faced the stone driveway on one side of the room and the courtyard containing the hot tub on the other side. Our room may not have been very appealing on the outside, but the inside more than made up for that. The room was large, clean, beautiful and rustic with furniture formed from logs, high ceilings, a beautiful Kiva fireplace, local artwork, a cute bathroom, and even a little Christmas tree. Each morning we found ourselves in the diningroom, enjoying their wonderful, homemade green or red chili with fluffy eggs, fabulous muffins, and delicious homemade granola and yogurt. I can almost taste it all as I write my review - absolutely delicious! The breakfast was to die for and all homemade by a delightfully sweet woman, who treated all of the guests like family. Many evenings we arrived back at the inn just in time for tea and cookies, which was also wonderful. Our room was very comfortable and the perfect place to come home to after a long day on the slopes. The fireplace was just perfect and firewood was aplenty just outside our room. In the evenings, we'd walk a few blocks into the village to take in the decorations, shops, and enjoy a nice dinner at one of the many restaurants. We only really used our car to make our way to Taos Ski Valley, which was a 20-30min drive from Casa Benavides. Honestly, I'd be thrilled to return to Casa Benavides on our next trip to Taos. Even if given the opportunity to stay slope side, I'd still choose to make the drive from Casa Benavides each day. This was a wonderful place to stay with a very warm, and family-like atmosphere that I look forward to returning to in the future.

Very nice bed and breakast in Taos, located in the middle of the Taos historic district. The room was quiet, comfortable, clean, and tastefully decorated with New Mexico accents. The details of the main building were exquisite, from the beautifully tiled and designed open air kitchen, to the selected artwork, and large carved doors. The afternoon desserts/tea were plentiful and yummy, and the breakfast was filled with baked goods from scratch and tasty egg dishes. The only downsides were the heater made the room really dry at night, some of the tv channels weren't coming through clearly, and the main building with the sitting room, fire place, and access to Wi-Fi, closed at 7:30pm -- which was a bit of a bummer. But for $115+tax, I thought it was a very good stay and would come here again.

We stayed here 20+ years ago and just loved it! This time, not hardly. Understatement. The good parts: the location can't be beat -- a block off the Taos Plaza, within walking distance of lots of shops and restaurants. Pretty, quiet, good and free parking. Fairly pricey, but okay for special occasion . Very good breakfast -- but it's exactly the same every day! Huh? We stayed for 4 nights and were getting tired of choosing among the same item. The muffins varied a lot and were tasty . Coffee was good. The staff were pleasant and helpful, except for the woman who checked us in -- she was tired or bored or something. Only one doorknob lock on the room -- the double bolt lock didn't work! The room: El Mirador needs a major upgrade just to bring it up to a $50 motel . It should be called the Beige Brown Room. Dingy beige walls & ceiling, beige bedspread. Mexican tile floor with worn old rugs -- not beige thank goodness. Worn and dingy white unlined cotton drapes that must have come out of a Motel X when it was upgrading. They didn't block the light. A couple of the windows didn't open and the screens had some holes in them. The wooden frames looked ancient and a bit rotten. The couch actually smelled bad -- very bad -- -- old mildew and wet dog was as close as I can get. Yuck. I couldn't sit there. The throw cushions were brown, old, smelly. Very well used pink and blue cotton blankets -- warm, but not really the bedding I'm used to in a $175 room. Very noisy small refrigerator -- I woke up when it kicked on for a couple days. Very noisy airconditioner fan too. Time for quiet appliances , please. Nice small bathroom with small towels, okay shower. At least it was clean and the soap was plentiful. Window didn't open at all. Wi Fi only in the sitting room near the lobby. When we stayed there before, it was nothing like this! I suspect that no maintenance and no decorating has been done in the intervening years. Not good. I will not stay there again and will never recommend it. What a disappointment, following on such a wonderful memory of the place.
