The burgers here'DELICIOUS. I've had my fair share of burgers and I liked the one from here the best. I ordered a classic burger with cheese and applewood bacon, but if I felt a bit more adventurous, I would have gotten the lamb burger OR the meatloaf burger special they had that night (Meatloaf burger + a specific beer that I don't remember). Something that's good to know - you order everything separately - burger, fries, drink. All together, the average person can expect to spend about $13 per person + tip. The service was friendly. It was packed when we went and it took a while for anyone to acknowledge/greet us, but once someone was free, they took good care of us. I left stuffed, happy and wishing they sold jars of the green chili mayo, which totally made my burger. Skip all the condiments, just use the green chili mayo. :-)

Green chili burger is damn tasty. Fries are overpriced, but tasty and the oil recycled for biodiesel, so it can slide (nice pun). Decent beer and wine selection.

BFF and I were traveling through Taos and stopped @ Five Star. We ordered coffee, Sweet Potato Fries, Fried Pickles and a Taos Burger to share. We requested the burger medium rare, with the BBQ sauce on the side. The coffee was lukewarm with a 1/2 teaspoon of grounds in the bottom of the cup. I prefer to drink my coffee, not chew it. The fried sweet potatoes were ok, pretty much the same as every body else serves. Fried pickles consisted of 4 battered deep fried 1/2 pickle spears. The burger came slathered in BBQ sauce, and as our server put the plate on the table, grabbed, and pulled a 2 1/2 inch hair from between the bun and hamburger patty. YUCK! We commented that we had ordered BBQ on the side, and the server promptly jerked the plate away. Five minutes later the server returned with the same burger, BBQ sauce wiped off and the patty well done. Sure was hungry for the burger, but left without eating it. We decided, as we drove south, their name should be 1 & 1/2 or 2 Star Burger because quality and service are no where near their misnomer. We then went south a few blocks and got a double meat, double cheese, double green @ Blake's. That is truly a 5 STAR burger!!!

I found this place well myself and my mother were traveling through New Mexico. After having one of the best all time burgers EVER at the Bob cat bites over in Santa Fe, I was really hoping that this place could pull off a delicious Green Chili Cheeseburger. Our options were either this place or Blake's What-a-burger that is close by to this joint. Well after pulling up the menu this place has sweet potato fries so we had to try it out. The food was okay, and the service was just alright. For this place not being super crazy busy it was about a 45 min wait for the food to arrive and once it did, the gentleman forgot the sweet potato fries (Gasp) he must have just been having one of those forgetful days....so another 20 Min's later and the fries come out super hot. The G.C.C. Burger was just alright, it was not really seasoned at all and just tasted very plain for having all of those goodies on top of it. The sweet potato fries needed something else as well, but they were better then the burger was. Overall this place was what I would call "Decent food" but it was nothing to write home about....just Yelp about!

We stopped by 5star while visiting Taos from Angel Fire. Although you might not think it by the looks of the outside, the food was great!!! Two burgers and an order of 1/2 sweet potato 1/2 regular fries was about $22. If you are spending the day in the main square, you will want to drive to 5star! It's worth it... It's even worth the drive in from Angel Fire!

Really good burgers, has become our default stop for lunch/dinner when passing through Taos.

This is a five star hamburger, salmon, burger place. We loved our salmon burgers & will definitely recommend this to anyone who visits Taos!

Great burger - Reminded me of The Counter with a NM twist of the Green Chile....The meat is sourced locally with no hormones and has an ample selection of non beef burgers. Another great item was their selection of NM beers both bottled and on tap. While it seems to be a place where a lot of people go for birthdays and with kids... If you are craving a good burger this is the place to stop at while in Taos.

Two words... Food poisoning. Delicious burger, but my husband and I were up the whole night talking to the porcelain god all night long. This ruined our weekend getaway to Taos. Might of been a bad night, but we won't go back for a second try.

Visiting Taos for the first time - family vacation. Had a kind of down day from the tourist thing and went to a movie, got out about 9pm and was looking for late dinner. Sign still on a 5 Star, drove in and was checking the front door for hours when the manager came out and greeted us - we were still in car looking at the hours and disappointed that they closed at nine. He told us that they were supposedly closed but had just dat a couple of tables and we were welcome to come in. Can you beat that? Service was great and the food was great. Got some ideas from our server of things not to miss in the area. No rushing us. Great place and I highly recommend! Glad to hear they are expanding and I hope they keep their personality as they grow!

Um this green chile cheese burger has full strips of chilies laid upon it. It is a bit different than most other GCCB's but it holds up quite well. The ambience of this place is very very enjoyable, and the service is great for a burger joint. I haven't been to the ABQ location yet, but I plan on doing so soon.

I think we most likely caught a really great place on a bad night which was evident by an overwhelmed staff, a dirty restaurant and meals that all came to the table at different times. We overheard the GM saying they were understaffed and it was obvious. Our waiter was extremely nice for how busy he was and for a Thursday night this place was packed! Floors were full of trash and food debris and the bathrooms were dirty. Our order was promptly taken but took forever to come out. Additionally, we were all served at different times. The flavor of my burger was fabulous - no need to add condiments, however, the bun was dry and crumbled right off. This was the case with my partners burger and the fried green chilies on top of his burger were cold. All that being said, I get the feeling that if we ever caught this place on a good night, our meals would have been outstanding instead of just OK. I'll give it another try.

Seriously good food here ! The burgers are great, I often try their specials from the chalk board outside the door but my favorite is the BLT salad, I think you are really missing out if you don't give it a try. The service has always been good, the food has always been good and it has become a common stop when I go to Taos. If you are in the mood for a burger, this is a great place to go.

The food at 5 Star is great. The burgers are huge, juicy and just delicious. These 1/2 burgers are definitely 1/2 pounders cooked to your desired degree of doneness. My husband ordered a $2 side salad that was big enough for the 2 of us. The sweet potato fries are crispy. The special sauces that come with your order are very tasty. Their menu also caters to the vegetable eaters with a variety of meatless entrees. Not hungry for a burger? Try a fish dish or a Reuben to die for. There is also a fine selection of beers and wines. If you are hungry you can't go wrong with their generous servings of great tasting food.

Fantastic burgers!! I've tried many local yet gourmet burger places in the West, and this one is my favorite by far!! I had the Green Chili Cheeseburger (minus the cheese that day...not b/c I didn't want it!). Every ingredient was fresh and delicious, probably because of the way they source their products locally. Having a large green chili on the burger hightened its flavor and has now raised my expectations of what a burger can be. My boyfriend had the 5-Star burger and couldn't stop praising it after every bite. We each also found the side salads to be made with fresh, refreshing produce and delectable dressings. This place is great, too, because of its outdoor eating space and easy access/parking, unlike downtown locations. Thanks for a great stop on our roadtrip that day!

The best burger I have ever had! The buns, brioche, were buttery and light and so good! The Taos burger with Gorgonzola was unbelievably good. The beef is all Angus, antibiotic free and 8 ounces. If you don't like beef the turkey burger is moist and sooooo good. My friend had the grilled cheese with bacon and tomato marmalade. She said it was sinfully decadent. We split the double chunk brownie with ice cream...it was big enough for us to share and was very good. I highly recommend!

We found 5 Star Burgers in an ad provided by the local Tourist Information Center, thank you. The place looks like a fancied up drive-in painted in the local colors of sand w/black. We were seated promptly and the interior was comfortable. The service was quick and friendly, providing descriptions of menu items. I had the gorgonzola and bacon burger because I felt the need to be dangerous while on vacation. Screw the turkey burger. My son ordered the Chile burger, the daughter-in-law ordered the bison burger and the wife went with the regular burger. No one had a complaint regarding price or quality. My daughter-in-law being charitible provided me with a taste of her bison burger and it washealthy tasting in a red meat kinda way in comperison to my own burger. The sweet potato fries were exceptional, a word I seldom use, but well earned here. I won't be returning to Toas, but can't wait to find the sister place in ABQ. well done 5 star

  • Scott P.

The burgers were ok but nothing special. Unlike other reviews we didn't think the buns were very good and not as fresh as they should have been. The frys are not worth getting...at all. For a place like this we were expecting real home style cut frys and they were just like what you get at Burger king but not as crunchy and more greasy. The shakes were ok. Service was good.

Great happy hour! little burgers of all types to choose from. BUT, we'd gone because a local recommended the Taos Burger. Well, while in Taos, ..:o) It was MARVELOUS.. truly. I asked for the BBQ sauce and the fancy mayo on the side, a little of each and you're in heaven, yummy juicy, unique, each bite as good as the last... We split it along with a side of their great onion rings and were totally pleased & surprised.. sure don't say that often/ever about a burger. Now, next question.. do we go back & repeat while we're here OR go back & try the Lambapeno burger special of the month with a jalapeno mayo... life is full of hard choices!

Okay, get your ass to 5 Star, and get the Taos Burger with one of the Santa Fe brews ASAP. I was passing through Taos and searched for a well-priced sit-down burger place on Yelp. 5 Star came up and there were so many great reviews I decided to head there. My server was quick, friendly, and helpful, and the burger was SO on point. I would never normally order a burger with green chiles, much less a fried green chile on it, but I was on vacation and figured "what the hell?" I'm so glad I did because the burger was amazing. It was cooked exactly as ordered and tasted great coupled with the hefeweizen. Overall, I would definitely recommend to anybody in the area!

Recently relocated to Taos and have now eaten here twice. Burgers are excellent and cooked to order. Cheeses and toppings are very fresh. When the weather permits, sitting outdoors with mountains as a backdrop is very nice.

We're locals...went in around 8:30 tonight. Maybe 4 tables inside occupied and some outside, but definitely not anywhere near crowded. We were given a table and menus. At least 7 minutes later no one had brought us water or come near our table. We walked out and there wasn't a wait staff person in the room or behind the bar to complain to. Went down to Lotaburger and had hamburgers there. We hadn't been there in a while and it will be a long time before we consider it again.

This place was wonderful! The service was great and the atmosphere was very chill and relaxing. They have lovely outdoor patio seating with a beautiful view of the mountains. It was our anniversary and the host, Mathew, was nice enough to suggest other places that we might try throughout our stay. The fried green chili and sweet potatoe fries were great! Awesome beer and happy hour deals. Highly recommend!!!

I am going to say something that this place offers that I haven't seen anywhere else. Green Chile Mayonnaise. That's right, in case you don't get your green chile fix with the multiple offerings, they've got this mayonnaise that rocks. I hadthe five star burger and it was bueno topped off with the green chile strips :). It was such a satisfying meal after the long day we had. In our party 3 people order shakes with their burgers and they couldn't be more pleased. The side of fries was ok, could of had a little more. Next time I go, I'm having a shake.

  • Jen I.

Had great burgers here. We also had mixed fries (regular and sweet potato) and green chili strips. The green chilies needed more seasoning, but were interesting. The burgers were really filling. I know this is a bit of a lame review, but the point is, definitely eat here. You'll get your money's worth and be completely satisfied.

Living in Albuquerque, we have our own 5 Star Burgers that opened here a few years back. I have heard a lot of hype about 5 Star Burgers, although I've never actually made it there. However, I have also heard the one in Taos is better than the one in Albuquerque. I was up here on business, with an expense account to test drive the place, so here we go! I started off with the green chile strips, they were very good. Excellent, if you will! I have been to several places that try to do fried green chile strips. They are usually being more overdone and just generally one of those things you regret. These were not the case. They had a good coating of cornmeal on them and gave them a nice texture. The chiles were hot but not so hot that they lost their flavor. They came with two different dipping sauces, one was ranch and wanted ever can really figure out because the green chile kind of overpowered. It was a good complement; it just made it difficult to ascertain exactly what the sauce was. For my burger, I struggled between several choices on the menu I got little help from the server, when I listed three choices, and said I'm struggling between these three, and she picked a fourth burger altogether! Oh well throw a dart, if you must. I had the five-star burger. That name sake of the restaurant. I must say I was a little disappointed. For starters, the burger did not come with fries or a side. Big picture, that's a good thing, as I had already had the green chile strips. However, if I had not, I would've been disappointed to find out I didn't get fries. I understand the whole sides are extra concept like at a fancy restaurant. But, it would have been nice if the server told you. I probably would've gotten the fries anyway just to try them. I've heard their sweet potato fries are fantastic! The burger itself was all right. The namesake, five-star burger, is your typical bacon with bleu cheese crumbs on top. However, I commend them for making the smart choice in going with Gorgonzola. Gorgonzola is a much creamier cheese that although not as pungent as bleu cheese, it has a creamier texture in your mouth when put over warm items. I know this seems like it's splitting hairs, but I'm a food guy, so what you expect? The bacon negated whatever points scored by the Gorgonzola. It was not the juicy strips of bacon that are cooked but still had that kind of soft texture to them. No, this bacon was a little overcooked and then crushed up like broken chips on my hamburger. Frankly, it was a bit of a disappointment. Many people write their review of a burger based on the flavor of the burger. Sometimes, it's easy to overlook the meat and bread itself. To be, this is where 5-Star earns it's five stars. The meat was cooked perfectly and the bun was a fantastic. The service was good, although the place was a little small - at the tables were put together a little closer than I would like. Fortunately the guy sitting next to me was a really nice guy, and we may hang out together again sometime soon. Overall, with three trips to Taos in recent times under my belt 5 Star Burgers has been the best so far. The only advice I would give based on my trip this week would be to avoid the bacon. You will find that the bacon does not have as many stars as the rest of the experience.

As soon as we walked in we where surprised at the awesome atmosphere for a burger place. The food came very fast and our waitresses was very king, and helpful. As well as everything gluten free. The burgers where PERFECT, juicy and very tasty. I would recommend this to anyone.

The beef is freshly ground from Harris Ranch. It was excellent beef! The burgers are served on a brioche bun. I built my own burger and added Swiss and avocado. It is served with green chile mayo that was good. We ordered the five star fries and they were fresh and hot just like I liked. They serve all local beer on tap. Nice casual place to come and eat.

We found dis place on da side a da road just waiting as we drive by. We was hungry so we stay. We sit outside an eat. They must have some new kinda deal wit da staff. They let you sit fer a long long time and don't say nuthin. I guess so we read da menu up n down. Den after you order day never come back. We think it like European or sumthin. We get dat green chilli burger and it like so hot I eat straight mayo just get back my mouth back. Da fries not like French doe. Day more like oh righta. We eat dat bison to an it ok. We ask for da check so many times it like we was doin our own sound for a concert. We laugh doe when we leave! Exact change!

Overpriced. Cheapest burger is 10.00. Nothing else is included. They are nothing special. The service was mediocre. Fries were thin and not very interesting at all. They have a loud tv above the bar that is very annoying. I'm thinking the majority of the reviews about this place are bullshit.

    (2)
  • Kevin L.

Definitely one of the best burgers I've ever had. Everyone in our group felt the same. The fried jalapeños were a hit as well.

    (4)
  • Chris W.

The burgers were big and juicy and the toppings are outstanding. The buns are wide enough to contain the burger, but not substantial enough to distract from it. The salads were also good -- including the greens and the quinoa salad. Fries are good. Draft beer: check. This place has got it going on. As I crossed the parking lot towards the entrance, I passed a burly construction worker lighting up a cigarette. As he left he said "That was one incredible meal." That pretty much sums it up. On the negative side, the kids burger was tiny and overcooked, so my kids didn't see what was so special. My wife was disappointed that they didn't have jalapeños other than fried ones that aren't very spicy. And the bacon, although it was tasty, was broken into bits instead of served in big crispy strips. I hope they fix these problems, because I'm definitely going back next time I'm in Taos.

Loved this place! Amazing burger, not dry at all (even when I ordered a medium-well) Service was a bit slow, but the food made up for it

So fortunate! My son and I were passing through Taos and I felt like a burger. Saw this place and said that it looked local...couldn't have been better!! The green chili cheeseburger was advertised as winning "best in New Mexico"...one of the better burgers I've had for sure. The soft heat was perfect and though typically not a mayo guy... The green chili mayo was delicious in itself. The sweet potato fries (my sons favorite) were serve with "maple cream"...best thing ice ever tasted on sweet potato fries. Oh...a full compliment of craft beers in tap didn't hurt, I enjoyed the Alien Amber Ale. Stop here!

  • Lex P.

I have been here several times and usually the burgers are great. However, we ate here last night and all three of the people who ordered hamburgers got food poisoning. It was an awful experience and we had to change our plane flight out of New Mexico because of this. We called the owner to simply let him know and he blew us off, refused to acknowledge anything and then would not return our calls. Eat at your own risk and if there is a problem good luck with any sort of customer service. We will be contacting the health department about this place.

  • Charles B.

Legit burger!!! I had the burger with chopped green chilies on top. I can see why USA Today named this joint one of the the 50 burger joints in the USA and tops in New Mexico. The fries are good too. Try the sweet potato fries. I'm not usually a fan but they were really good and the dipping sauce... Yum! Everyone enjoyed their burgers and we will be back the next time we are passing through.

The correct name is "5 Star Burgers". This might help some when looking it up online, etc... 5starburgers.com Been to this location several times, as well as Santa Fe location, and find it to be quite good. Always had good service. Food tasty, hot and well prepared. Green Chili Cheeseburger is awesome, but honestly, I prefer the 5 Star burger with Gorgonzola, bacon, and ADD green chili and fried egg. Also try the crab cake burger. amazing. My only wish is that they would stay open till 10pm.

They have fried jalapenos now. Soooo good.

Pretty good burger, mediocre fast food atmosphere. The Kobe Burger up the road at The Burger Stand at Taos Ale house blows this away, much better meat and flavor, maillaird reaction

My kids and I went here last week for dinner during our Spring Break ski trip. We liked it so much we ate there again our last night in Taos. The bison and lamb burgers are exceptional. We ordered them medium rare so they were extra juicey! Service is good even though they were really busy due to the Spring break crowd, they were prompt and courteous. I definelty look forward to coming back here on our next Trip to Taos!

  • Brad F.

Top notch burgers. Somehow it was surprising that a place called "Five Star Burgers" would actually deserve five stars. But if you're going for the quality of the burger, you won't be disappointed here.

    (5)
  • Sarah L.

The website listed that they are open until 10pm on Saturday nights. We arrived at 9:25pm and they would not let new customers inside. False advertising indeed.

  • Lisa C.

I don't eat burgers very often, so when I do do I want it to be really good. The Taos Burger lived up to it. It was juicy, flavorful and dripping in juices, just the way a good burger should be. My husband had the Brunch burger which he said tasted like breakfast on a burger. Service was very quick considering we were there at the height of lunch and I was starving. I just wish they had one in my home town.

    (5)
  • Greg B.

Good burger. Nice green chilies and sweet potatoes fries. In fact the sweet potato fries were a kid favorite. That have a couple nice long takes where we were able to sit 10 of us.

  • Clayton A.

Taos Burger, don't think about it; just order it. This burger is fresh, packed with flavor and it has breaded, fried, crispy green chile on top. It's clearly the reason why cows and green chile exist and why they make such good lovers in the bed. As for sides, we get the sweet potato fries, which are good, but they don't really add anything to the burger and the burger alone will easily fill one up. If you're like me and you'll love this place as well for having several good New Mexican beers. On my last visit, they had the Hopper IPA from Taos Mesa Brewing, which is a delicious, well-balanced beer with plenty of hops. But there are also Marble, Santa Fe Brewing, and I think the Isotopes beers here. Bottom line, this place does its burgers right and has the courtesy to have some good beers to match. The price is reasonable too as around $25 will feed two. As for the ambiance, nothing special going on here, but you'll hardly notice as your scarfing down ya boyguh.

Great burger and a decent beer selection 4 stars because the bathroom is a "one holer" and there is often a line.

Had the 5- star burger. It was amazing! Service could have been better, but your food made up for it.

I was going to give this a solid 4 star review based on the first night visit. We got the green chile burger and fried green beans. Very solid burger and the fried green beans were a nice alternative to the usual fries. We decided to go the next night and ordered off of the happy hour menu. Sausage and green chile pizza and on tap Santa Fe micro brew for $5.50! (x 2 please!) Are you freaking kidding me? In Taos, on vacation, thought we were being punked! Great service too! Server gave us nice recommendations for breakfast choices. House stray dog lives out back. Probably never left after getting some yummy doggy bag leftovers. Just too good for the price. Don't miss happy hour!

Best burger I have had on this trip. Also offers gluten-free options. A must for burger lovers visiting Taos. Great atmosphere and excellent service.

Awesome Neiman ranch meat - great green chili sauce. Good beer selection! Def one of the best burger joints!

Definitely a 5-Star Burger, fries (regular and sweet potato) aand $4 sangria. Excellent service and outside seating to view the mountains!

  • Tony S.

Excellent burgers. Large, juicy, flavorful and worth the premium price. The chicken sandwich was also good, as was the Quinoa Salad. But, I would pass on the regular fries as they are the basic frozen variety. The Sweet Potato Fries were superior. However in both cases, the cute little "fry basket" presentation was quite small, and IMHO not worth the $3 to $4 up charge. That said, they had a good range of beers and other drinks options. The servers were polite and timely. The decor was hipper than we had expected. We did notice that unless you eat outside, there were not many tables for larger groups. We would recommend 5 Star for burgers, salads, & drinks, but not fries.

This is my favorite place in Taos for burgers. The green chile burger is at the top of my list of favorites. It's always been done exactly as requested. with great flavor of green chiles. Great place to relax with a beer and burger. Service has always great. And I always take visitors from out of town there also. I highly recommend this to everyone.

Awesome burgers! 5 Star Burger was awesomely delicious! Local beers are on tap. Service was great.

    (5)
  • Kris W.

Really good burger place. If you're a normal portion eater, just get the burger and skip the fries. It's more than enough. Had the green chili burger (it's deep fried on the burger, plus cheddar and BBQ sauce) and it was really juicy and tasty.

    (5)
  • Sara P.

I wasn't that excited about my burger and the service was not ideal (why not clear my dinner plate rather than leaving it on my table after I've gotten dessert), but the sweet potato fries with maple creme were excellent!

  • LelaYoga T.

Hands down, jaw dropping, moist, magical, imaginative, local, tasty, tasty, tasty. The best burgers in the world. We have tasted some amazingly awesome burgers but by far five star burgers is our favorite place. I highly recommend the crab cakes or the turkey burger with cranberry chutney, grilled onions and Gorgonzola cheese on a gluten free bun. Burger bravery back off because everything is fantastic!!!!

  • Amber T.

Amazing veggie burger! It was extremely flavorful...black beans definitely came through. The texture is more like mashed potatoes which the waitress kindly explained. I topped it with aged cheddar and got the brioche bun instead of the wheat bun. To die for. The fried green beans are perfectly flavored. My husband loved the Taos burger. Patient, kind, knowledgeable waitress. Our food came out perfectly timed. We will definitely be back.

    (5)
  • Nina C.

Our experience was not what we had expected. Our waitress completely forgot us from the get go. We waited at least 15 minutes plus to get our order in, which we had to seek out someone to take it. Plus, they brought my husband's burger without a bun which was my request for my burger, not his. When he told our waitress, she took five minutes to bring it. This meant his food sat there, getting cold while he waited for the bun she said she would bring in two minutes. Also, she never checked on us again after delivering our plates so no drink refills or "How is everything?" With that said, the food was good. We did enjoy the green chile mayo.

  • Scott L.

I really enjoy the burgers in this place. They have a great selection of both traditional and somewhat untraditional burgers. They all taste good and seem very fresh and cooked perfectly. We also had the mixed fry basket that has both regular and sweet potato fries and they were pretty good. They also have a great beer selection. Next time I'm in Taos, I'll definitely go back.

  • C W.

The debate was pizza or burgers. Well glad the burgers won out! I had the Taos burger, w/ bbq sauce, cheddar and crispy green chile. Wasn't sure what was the crispy green chile was, glad I tried it. Usually you get regular strips or chopped green chile. This was a chile that was breaded and fried, awesome. The burger melted in my mouth. Couldn't put it down. I shouldn't have eaten the whole thing, as I was getting the full feeling, but had to finish. Better than the Twisted Root in Texas, 5 guys and even McDonalds LOL. Wife had the Portobello burger and she really enjoyed it. If you are tired of Mexican food or just need a burger fix, this is the place.

Had the 5 Star Burger and it was amazing. I've had a lot of good burgers in my time but this one was hands down the best. Give it a try because you will not be disappointed.

Green Chili Cheeseburger was good, but for $9.50 I would have expected something to go with it -- if not fries, at least a few chips. Service was not as attentive as I would expect. The building was previously a fast food building with a drive-thru (closed now) on the side. Not what I would expect for "5 stars."

So this place is in the middle of a strip mall outside of the trendy area of Taos. Still the location was very nice with a well decorated building. The parking lot was packed as well. We had the fried green chile strips which come with a really good dipping sauce. Of course we had the green chile cheeseburgers as well. The burger tastes great and was cooked perfectly. We also got two half orders of fries that come in a nice little package. The local beer selection was good as well. Overall, this is a solid place to get your burger fix.

Best burgers in Taos. Skiing in Taos during Spring Break and stopped in with my son. The place was packed, so we chose to sit at the bar. Danny the bartender took great care of us. Because they were slammed in the kitchen Danny said we would have a 25-30 minute wait. He delivered the food in 19 minutes and refilled our drinks several times. I had Old Timer and my son had the 5 Star Burger. Both were great. We'll hit the place again before we leave town. They have a good variety of specialty burgers to choose from as well. The only negative was there was some funky movie playing on the big screen tv at the bar - would have much preferred a sports channel.

The best hamburger I've eaten. I had just a hamburger, smoked provolone, onion, and tomato. No sauce to hide the flavor of the beef required.

Best burgers we had in a long time (and we have burgers frequently). It was packed during their happy hour so we were glad to pick up two delicious local beers as we waited for our table. The ambiance isn't all that unique, but it was clean, new, and welcoming. I had the Taos burger and he had the Green Chile burger. Both were a little overcooked (we wanted medium and it was closer to well-done), but if you watched us devour our meal you wouldn't think we cared! I preferred my Taos burger, which had delicious fried chili, cheese, and a bit of bbq sauce, but my husband's burger was also very delicious (I was getting tired of green chili sauce by this leg of our NM trip). We ordered sweet potato french fries and fried pickles - both also very good, but were second fiddle to our delicious burgers. Wished this place was closer to where we live!

I've seen owner after owner try to make this location work. No one got it right until someone came along and did what was needed to make it work. First, the place was sectioned off with a room for an internet cafe. That's almost never a money maker. Second, the food never was done well. Five star turned it all around. They got rid of the stupid wall that created the internet cafe and opened the space up nicely. The food centers around items people want and can relate to. Their Lamb with Gorgonzola is awesome. Has a real sports bar feel now and is inviting. Last time I visited Taos I actually didn't eat here. (I was trying not to eat out as much to maximize my dollar because I was visiting my kids who live in Taos.) I'm personally not to worried about this causing anyone to eat here because that is just going to happen anyway.

Best burger ever! My friend and I split the green chilie burger and fries. The burger was one of the best I've had. It was cooked to order perfectly and had great flavor. We are already thinking how we could squeeze another visit in before we leave tomorrow.

After a long day of white water rafting, we stopped in as suggested by our tour guide. Boy was he spot on - the green chili cheeseburger is one of the best I've ever tried (and that is coming from someone who lives in "beef country"). While in town I tried other green chili cheesburgers, but non even came close to 5 star's. Simply AMAZING!!!!

Three words. Burger. Happy. Hour. We were very hungry after a day at the slopes. Very. Hungry. You get the picture. So we stopped by during their happy hour and gorged ourselves on their mini burgers. To be honest, I don't really remember paying much attention to the atmosphere - we were THAT hungry. Fish burger - just alright, I wouldn't pick it over their other options. Blue cheese burger was tasty and so were the other beef burger options. The fried pickles were very tasty, as were the fries. They had quite the variety of dipping sauces, so be sure to inquire and pick your favorite flavors. I appreciate that they use high quality beef, no trans fats and work at sourcing things locally. Fits in with the general vibe that Taos puts off.

I read the past reviews and one single star review seems to be written from a less than objective perspective. Here are my impressions. I heard this is a place for burgers I should check out. Upon arrival I thought it looked like a national franchise. Once inside I realized its decor had a warm welcoming vibe. I agree with past reviews that some art on the wall (especially local) would go a long way to improve the atmosphere. I'm here for the food. I spoke with a local at the bar and asked for a recommendation. He suggested trying the Taos Burger. I ordered that and the sweet potato fries. (Always a good idea). Sipped some local brew (Blue Moon) and waited while watching the game. The burger arrived with great presentation. A fine white platter that highlighted the dark hormone free beef and grilled bun. I assembled the burger with my fixins. The bun would be the only shortfall. While it was "a tasty burger" the bun was the weak link. I've had the same problem with other burger buns sliding and falling apart so it may be my style. I'd suggest a larger diameter bread to contain the generous portion. Not a bad complaint to offer. If you only have one burger in your budget while here in NM then stop here. This place has potential to franchise nation wide. It's like having a license to print money and only handing it out in your back yard. GO BIG OR GO HOME. I am a fan Five Stars! let the rest of the nation enjoy what you offer.

Awesome burger, cooked exactly as done as we asked for. Bailey got a Taos burger (lightly fried green chilies), Renée had the Taos and added a fried egg -- they both loved their burgers. I ordered an "old timer" - just a plain burger with fixings -- since it was great beef, it was perfect. Delicious! Fries were OK, liked the tzaziki-type sauce they served with the fries.... Only downside was that they were out of the fried pickles so we couldn't try them... Worth the trip, eat here!

Stopped by this place on a Sunday afternoon after a rafting trip up by Taos. It was fairly busy but we were seated quickly and the waitress got to us, not immediately, but within a reasonable amount of time. Good selection of high-end burger styles along with the classics. Not feeling in a 'gorgonzola on my burger' mood, I chose the Ahi Tuna and my girlfriend got the salmon. We also got fried pickles and sweet potato fries. The waitress took a long time, and eventually came back to say that they were out of the tuna. I went with the crab burger as plan B in a pinch. It still took a while for the food to come, and all in all, it was just OK. My gf liked the grilled zucchini that came with her salmon and the fish was ok too. The sweet potato fries were good, exactly what you'd expect them to be. The pickles' breading was similar to what you'd have with fried mozzarella sticks, and again, tasted just like you'd expect a fried pickle to taste. My crab burger was ok, blue crab, breading, seasoning, etc. It was a little loosely held together and kept trying to escape from the bun, which with a mostly bread crab cake, seemed to be a whole lot of bread in one meal. If I had to do it over again, I'd have gone open faced or just removed the bun altogether. The meal as a whole was hard to judge, everything was done ok, it's just that nothing stood out as really great. I think the menu description created higher expectations than the reality of the food provided. It's like a good chef who makes 30 fantastic meals a night suddenly being forced to make 300...all the parts are still there, but the execution is just enough to get a passing grade. What we were thinking not just getting a regular burger I'll never know. It's like downgrading burger king because their fish sandwich isn't that great. I'll probably give the one in Albuquerque a try and choose an actual burger burger before writing this place off completely.

Ask for salad dressing on the side. Mine was drowning and therefore strawberries and spinach were soggy because of it. Wonderful outdoor seating.

As a local, I have to say how thrilled I am to have 5 Star as my local burger place. Although I'm not an expert on the beef burgers as I don't eat 'em, the turkey burger is hands down the best I've ever had! It's served on a delicious bun with your choice of either peach or cranberry chutney. ( I always get the peach). Pair it with a half and half order of standard and sweet potato fries and don't miss the chili mayo as a dipping sauce! Add a beer and you're just about in heaven! I think their burgers were voted best in the state in a USA Today article. Try them.... you won't be disappointed!

My sister and I were staying in Taos 2 weekends ago, and kept seeing ads for Five Star Burgers. I also told my sister (who hadn't been to NM since she was 16) that she MUST have a green chile burger while we were there, so we decided to go with a 5 star place. As others mentioned, it doesn't look like much from the outside, almost like any other chain place, but the interior was much nicer. There were several really cool paintings hanging in the area we were seated, and by the way, we were seated very quickly. We went there around 6PM on a Sunday, and the place was pretty full. My sister and I both ordered green chile burgers, with pepperjack cheese and all the trimmings, she had hers grilled to medium and I had mine medium rare (moolicious!). We shared an order of half and half fries (regular and sweet potatoes) and loved the green chile mayo! I also ordered the side salad for $2, but lordy, I could've skipped it, it was huge! I made my sister share it with me, and we ended up only making it through half our burgers and the fries. We took the rest back to our hotel room and had the leftovers later that night after doing a little drinking at the Adobe Bar (we were staying at the Taos Inn) and walking around the plaza at night and taking pictures of ourselves making weird faces next to landmarks. Maybe we shouldn't have had those shots of Jameson...but anyways, I absolutely recommend the burgers here! My honey and I only buy grass-fed beef to have at home, so it was nice knowing this is quality beef, and the produce is local. During dinner, I texted my BFF who lives in Albuquerque to let her know about this place the next time she visits Taos (she loves a good burger). Gotta spread the love, right? I want this place to be here next time I visit Taos!

Turkey burger with peach chutney and sage...mmmm....like turkey dinner, only lite! Beautiful view out on the patio. Waitresses were a little surly, but then this is a total tourist destination, and probably they get asked the same questions too many times. Excellent sweet potatoe fries--not soggy. And the fried jalapeno (slices) were yum! Saw that others were enjoying ice cream, but we were too full from the excellent beer. Will definitely go again, as we have just moved to the area.

I came here last year for spring break, and I was looking forward to some taste of 5 star burger this week. However, over an hour before they close we were being turned away due to a lack of food. It's March. It's ski season. It's a restaurant. They ran out of food? Way to run a restaurant.

Well, I have to say, "My my that is a tasty burger". Seriously the best meal I have had in Taos. The building and decor are par, nothing to write home about; however, the food is. Now you might look at the menu and say, "Geez louise, that much for a burger?" Well, the thing to know is that the burgers are huge. It's hard to eat just one. Seriously, I'm a bigger dude and I had trouble with it. Now these tasty beef-filled buns don't come with sides, but the sides are reasonably priced and enough to split with someone. We both had the 5 star burger which is only an 8 oz patty. It seems much bigger and comes with bacon and gorgonzola cheese, all on a nice grilled bun from a bakery in Albuquerque (with a nice slight crunch but not crumby). I had mine medium and my wife's was medium well. I recommend the medium because medium well seems too dry and thus not as flavorful. The beef is local and hormone-free. They even grind their hamburger daily so it is uber fresh. You can taste the difference. For our side, we got the sweet potato fries, which were great, and one order was, as I said earlier, plentiful. What made these tasty orange-fried sticks oh so much more flavorful was their house-made sour cream green chili dipping sauce. Let me say that I don't usually eat spicy stuff (due to food poisoning) but this was great and not real hot, more of a medium heat, and the attack was a slow heat up, not rapid, and it didn't ruin the flavor, only added to it. Now I have only been here the one time so I don't know how consistent they are, so look for a local review in that. Also they have happy hour there from 4-6 daily where the draft beer is half price and the fries are a dollar and the burgers are $1.25. Now I'm guessing the burgers during this fire sale of a happy hour are sliders size and not full size (this information I found on their website. I was there during normal old hours, not the happy ones. Hope I don't steer you wrong. Happy grub'n! Anywho, give this place a try. I only gave it 4 out of 5 because I think they could do a bit more creative decorating to their interior. I suggest local art work, photography for sure. Well, I hope I don't steer you wrong. Happy grub'n.

Service was a little slow at the beginning, but the food is amazing. My sis and I ordered the green chile burger and it was tasty. The owner served us our burger and asked us how we were. AMAZING!
