I love this place- very quaint and calm atmosphere. Get a reservation- there are very few tables. This is an Italian restaurant but no pizza- don't confuse it with michaelenas. I have had the ravioli and it is made in house and is delicious. Most recently I had the Fettuccini Carmella and it was great. Mixture of prosciutto, chicken and shrimp in a tomato/Alfredo sauce- there were veggies mixed in too. We also had the Tiramisu and it was light and amazing. Great evening and a wonderful date spot.

Nice small Italian place. Wait staff was friendly and attentive. Had their version of lasagna and it was wonderful. Would recommend this place for dinner.

Food was salty like a frozen dinner. It reminded me of Pizza Hut past kinda. But not to bad I guess; just keep in mind this review.

We LOVE Michael J's... we go there quite often and are never let down. Whether we are taking the kids, or having a date night with just the two of us, Michael J's is our favorite! The food is always ah-mazing and the atmosphere is always nice. The staff are all very friendly. Drinks stay full, plates get picked up quickly, food comes fast, and the servers keep you happy by paying attention to you, but not bugging you! Love the chicken and eggplant Parmesan, and the lasagna is always delicious. Their salads are kinda small but always really good and fresh!! I always tell people who ask where a good place to eat is to go there!

We had dinner here Saturday night and the food was excellent as was the service. Micheal and the servers were friendly and attentive. The food was anything but salty as another person suggested. I called to see if we could get a table and was told it would need to be a small one in the bar in 30 minutes. I appreciated his honesty, and on a Saturday night I was happy to get in and while cozy, the table was fine. We will definitely come back if in Ruidoso.

Our first visit, but have been long time Ruidoso visitors. Didn't know they took reservations but something to be aware of during peak business hours. Seated quickly and the wait staff was very attentive and friendly. Offered bread and olive oil as an appetizer while waiting for food. Which led to my only complaint. We got 4 small pieces to eat with the olive oil, and when the entree came we asked for additional bread and received three small pieces. My wife had the lasagna, half of which she took home and I had the seafood and pasta, which was really good but I could have used more bread to sop up the delicious sauce. Ambiance was nice and while fairly expensive it was a nice visit. Wife said she would come back so that's a good endorsement. I'd give it 4 1/2 stars.

I can always count on Michael J's to provide excellent dining experiences! The staff is professional and a pleasure to be around. The food is always money well spent, even a basis. dish like Lasagne is awesome there.

This is truly fine dining. Reservations made, sat immediately and blown away by the service and restaurant's delightful ambiance. The food was magnificent and the drinks kept filled. I had the thickest, juiciest pork chop in the history of man. I quickly nibbled from everyone else's plate in our party of eight (spaghetti, ravioli, lasagna and filet) and realized this place was in the top three Italian Restaurants I'd ever eaten at; I've been all over the globe five times over so I am no tastebud amateur. #NEVERDISAPPOINTED!!!

Went to try this place out and was excited about it after reading all the excellent reviews. We walked up to the hostess desk and an older gentleman walked by and asked "Can I help you?" I said "Yes, we'd like a table for three." He looked at me in a disgusted way as he asked "Reservations?" I said "no" and he turned his back on me as he mumbled "we're booked, sorry". As we walked away feeling totally dejected, I couldn't help but notice that there were 4 tables open and no one waiting in line before us. The food may be great, but the service is lacking. Went down the road to Rio Grande Grill and Tap Room, where they greeted us with a smile and kindly put us on their waiting list. Kindness ALWAYS wins!! 5 stars for RIO GRANDE GRILL AND TAP ROOM!!

This place was amazing! I ordered the lasagna and my wife had the alfredo with shrimp and mushrooms. Both were absolutely delicious! The lasagna was like a cloud and melted in your mouth. I was told by my wife that the shrimp was perfect as well as her alfredo. The moscato was so clean and smooth. Willman's I think it was called. It's a fine dining establishment. You are supposed to have reservations, but we didn't know that and they seated us in the bar area anyway. Our waiter was the bar tender and I thought he was being disrespectful at first. An older gent who originally sounded like he thought I didn't have money. But then the more we talked I realized that he was just being nice and making suggestions out of kindness. I wanted the whole bottle of wine and he kept saying to buy it elsewhere and save a buck. Just a misunderstanding on my part I guess. My only complaint was the table being by the restrooms. I don't like that places always have to get that last table in and it's usually by the restrooms. Just stop it...you won't make that much less without that table. The cost was great! We paid like $48.00 for our dinners and my glass of wine. Great food and a lower price than I would have guessed. I left him $15.00 as a tip but I wanted to leave $25.00 in case he thought of me as cheap. My wife carries the cards and I have my cash. So she covered the ticket, which always looks bad and I pay cash for tips. She didn't want me paying that much as a tip so I didn't.

A great meal! We arrived promptly at 5p and were immediately seated. Our friendly waitstaff was attentive and quick to bring our adult beverage, the house red, and a pretty good one at that. Crab cakes started our meal and were delicious. The Thursday special, 3 cheese ravioli, was just a tad undercooked for my wife, but the scallops and risotto was EXCELLENT!

So this place is a great local place BUT unfortunately it's only good if you are Caucasian person. If you are of another nationality forget about it! You will be treated like second class citizen!! And the owner Mickey Boy!! Really Michael is a pretentious person that does not really care about his customers and epically if they are of another nationality. Anyway skip this joint and go to Olive Garden at least they are good at service.

The guy seemed so surprised we didn't have a reservation and proceeded to tell us how lucky we were when we got a table. They were out of carnivore wine. We ordered. Swordfish and veal piccata. The bread they brought was soft and would have been delic if warm. The Cesar salad came and was nothing to brag on. Our main dishes were brought out. The veal piccata looked like chicken and was rubbery. We weren't even sure if was veal! The swordfish with asparagus risotto was absolutely tasty! It melted in your mouth! It was absolutely delicious! Time for dessert they were out of chocolate torte... So the atmosphere was cool though inside an old house. Prices were reasonable. The food was hit and miss from what we had. Check it out and hope for the best! I would recommend the swordfish!

My son, myself and another lady and her two sons went there the other night. Parked in the back and walked through the garden to the front desk. Stood there for a few mins and finally someone came up and I asked how long of wait would it be--He looked at the kids and then rudely told me tomorrow night and turned his back and left. Several tables were open so it wasn't like they were busy. I used this place for catering for the airplane many times and have eaten there many times before and food has always been great. Both of us work for the same person in town and after this occurrence, i will never go back. We walked away in disbelief on how we were treated.

After reading reviews we decided to eat here for dinner our last night in Ruidoso and were not disappointed. We called ahead to make a reservation as was recommended which was good as they got busy very quickly after we arrived. My husband had the lasagna which was a nice sized portion and I had the special of 3 Cheese Ravioli with Alfredo sauce. Both were wonderful. We shared a cheesecake to end the evening. The service was wonderful, Nina was great! We would highly recommend eating here.

I celebrated my birthday here last night. Perfect choice! The atmosphere was great. The staff, very friendly and helpful. Our server was on top of things and took great care of us. The food here is delicious. I had the asparagus risotto with scallops. And was not disappointed. The wine list is descent and the desserts are worth trying. We will return on out next visit to Ruidoso.

Great little Italian place with excellent service. The chef obviously is talented and asventurous. The mussel was done in a saffron creme sauce. A departure from the usual white wine garlic or tomato garlic. It's pretty good but not my favorite. The Ceasars salad was not overdressed and the minestrone soup was full and bold not your usual minestrone. The soup is made with tomatoe puree rather than just chunks of tomato and beans. Main course the veal Parmesean was a surprise. The crust was very flavorful and light. It was nothing line the normal dense crust. We came to find out its a panko crust. One of my favorite type of preparation. It give you the same parmesean crust feel without the density. The marinara sauce has a spiciness that was very interesting and intriguing. The seafood cloppino. Very good and tradional preparation but the protein succulent and tender. What impressed us was the pasta on both dishes was just perfect.

What a great addition to Ruidoso. The scallops over asparagus risotto was outstanding, as was the bacon-wrapped shrimp. Good wine list. Outstanding service (the management is a crew that's been together for a long time, and the professionalism shows). Though there's lots of seating (outside is beautiful when the weather's cool enough), you really need a reservation on the weekend. Only open for dinner, Tuesday through Saturday.

For a restaurant of this quality, I would have expected better staff. The male host was unpleasant on two different occasions over two nights. He was rude and unprofessional. The female hostesses did not know what they were doing in seating us and left us standing in the middle of the dining room area where people were eating while they figured out where to seat us. There was no apology nor an explanation on why we were left. They simply left us standing in the middle room. As these are the people who make the first impression, I would rate this a 2 out of 5. The waitress, however, redeemed the personnel. She was pleasant and attentive. I would rate her a 4 out of 5. The food (lasagna and steak were eaten) was good for this area. The steak was pricey at $28 and good but not worth the hassle of dealing with poor host/hostess. The lasagna was good but eat only if you like lots of garlic. The garlic overwhelmed the sauce and left an aftertaste. I would rate the food 3.5 out of 4 stars. I would not likely come again due to the staff and with the price, I would expect better quality.

Excellent service. Ambience was to die for! Great views. Great menu selections. We had the bacon wrapped shrimp as an app. Too die for! Flavors were bursting! Fettuccine Alfredo with chicken breast for my wife and rib eye for me. Medium plus rib eye was cooked perfect and melt in your mouth quality!!! Garlic mashed potatoes are the perfect accompaniment! Sauce noodles and chicken were all perfectly seasoned and best ever quality on the Alfredo!! We'll be back for sure!! Recommend this place for anyone and everyone coming to Ruidoso!

My husband and I ate there last night. I had the linguine with shrimp scampi. It was delicious and the shrimp were a nice size and tender. My husband had the Fettuccine Carmella. He was very pleased and felt it had wonderful flavor and well presented. We also had the Caesar salad and fresh bread. Our waitress was very friendly and we were given a table quickly without a reservation on a Saturday. We did visit Ruidoso during the slow season. The restaurant setting is intimate and lovely like being in a good friend's home. Would definitely go there again.

Call ahead and enjoy our new favorite dinner spot in Ruidoso. We visited twice this trip and will definitely go back. The atmosphere is wonderful both indoors and out and the service was great. All of the wait staff we encountered was so very friendly. Good wine selection, and homemade lemonade was a hit with the kiddos. We enjoyed appetizers, entrees, and deserts both nights. Salmon bruschetta was the best appetizer and our favorite entrees were the lasagna and homemade ravioli. Cesar salad was a hit too in the taste department but was small portion wise. Dessert was top notch as well with the chocolate mousse cake and cheese cake being our favorites. What I truly appreciated the most though, was that they had a gluten free pasta offering and gluten free dessert (choc mousse cake). It's always hard to feed our whole family out as we have 1 that can't have gluten and so that made both meals even more of a treat. Didn't seem to have contamination issues after the fact either. Highly recommended...wonderful all the way around.

Very, very good Italian food in Ruidoso. Excellent wine list and outstanding service. The shrimp scampi, eggplant Parmesan and Caesar salad are not to be missed. We will definitely be back.

Variety in Ruidoso is good since it is a small town with fairly limited choices for restaurants. However, this one needs some improvement in terms of cost and portion sizes. We went out as a family and ordered several entrees from the dinner menu. I personally ordered the Eggplant Parmesan. It does not come with a salad... that is extra. When it arrived, I had one small slice of eggplant on top of some spaghetti pasta that took up about a third of a regular size plate. It tasted OK, but even two servings would have been less than expected for eggplant parmesan at other restaurants. A better name might be Pasta, with a little eggplant. My son ordered Spaghetti and Meatballs. Again, the portion was small and it cost $13.95. It was also a little cold in the restaurant itself. Not good for the long winter season we have here. I hope they make some corrections as I would like to see them stay afloat, but that will be tough if they do not improve.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
