I often wonder whether I'm the only one who gets giddy about the foundations of this beautiful state. I do, I get cheeky, maybe geeky, when I enter our History. I didn't know anything about this place but my Yelp app veered me to it, on a Sunday at 8 a.m. following a weekend camping in the Pecos wilderness. The place delivered in droves. Thanks once again, Yelp. The Cassanova. The title alone should intrigue. An adobe monument of these parts, Frankie is one of many to inhabit the place over so many years. According to one of the employees it was originally a mercantile, but it has posed as a lot of businesses over the last century, including a night club. The skeleton remains intact; the wood frame and many of the (rather awesome) murals decking out the walls go back some 60-plus years. It's one of those spaces that seemingly embraces the human activity from yesteryear, just dining there makes you a part of the past. Breakfast was good, not great, but the pancakes were huge and the red chile on my breakfast burrito was divine. Fresh cut white roses and baby's breath sat in vases throughout the restaurant. Our waiter was really attentive and he concocted an iced coffee with piñon beans that perked me up. And I was pretty shocked to find out the place had a great Yelp deal, $10 for $20, not something I'd expected in such a small town. The price was right, too. Nice job, Frankie's, you've entered the 21st century in style. This is certainly my go-to the next time I get away from it all.
Out riding my motorcycle and stumbled into this place, great food. They have great green chili stew.
An accidental find on our way from the Pecos National Historic Park to Santa Fe. We struck it rich. You take a step back in time as you enter this typical NM style building. Full of antiques and charm. He says that the restaurant gets a full 5 stars for ambiance. Enjoyed a lunch of 'Salad and Stew' with great green chile chicken stew and a great mixed salad with a delicious Vidalia onion salad dressing. He liked his green chile chicken enchiladas plate. All was quickly polished off. They were not over crowded and seemed to have a fair number of locals. We passed on the sinfully looking home baked cakes. The waitress thoughtfully offered us waters to go and off we went, proud of ourselves for finding this gem.
