From the looks of it, you wouldn't expect much from Grandpa's Grill... On the outside, it looks like an industrialized building that has been through some seriously hard times... even the sign is a bit off-putting.... But once inside, it gives way to a beautifully quaint looking country kitchen. The delicious odor coming from the kitchen peaked my interest instantly, and I was excited by the variety offered on the menu. I'm not much of a coffee person, but brew at this establishment is quite flavorful and was a perfect compliment to my "handheld breakfast burrito." Freshly made salsa was the icing on the cake for me. SO DELICIOUS! The staff here is always on top of refills, asking if you're ok, or need anything else and are extremely friendly. Honestly, this is one of the top places on my list to satisfy my up and coming breakfast kick. I look forward to coming back to check out their lunch and dinner digs really soon! FYI: They do honor the 10% offer that is seen on yelp. And any alteration to the food preparation for your liking is welcomed and respected.

I was in town with some co-workers and we decided to give this place a try. Many in the group got the special of the night: a rack of ribs, beans, corn on the cob for $15. This order was definitely large enough to split for two and still be stuffed! I ordered the bacon avocado burger, which was delicious. I loaded it up with tomatoes, lettuce, and jalapeños from the bar, which made it even better. It came with fries, which were nice and crispy (I like my fries crispy). There's free chips and salsa at the bar, the service is great, the food is affordable, and the serving portions are huge. Added perk, there's a 10% check in bonus with Yelp! It was one of the best spots we went to over the 2-week period that we were in town. I'll be back if I'm ever back in this town. ----------------------------------- Explanation of my rating system - 5*: Epitome of something, the best I've had, would LOVE to go back 4*: Great food and happy to go back regularly, but not the best of the category 3*: Food is fine. I may spontaneously decide to go there based on convenience. But no need to go back either. 2*: If you insist, I guess I'll come along. I'll find something to eat. But I wouldn't have picked it. 1*: No plans to come back. I'll try to talk companions out of going.

This place is a breath of fresh air. The food was excellent. Had a Southwest Philly Cheesesteak. The service was excellent. I highly recommend it.

In town visiting family and our niece went with us for lunch. Really, really delicious food! You order at the counter, which I actually love. Your drinks are refilled by you and there is a toppings bar for burgers. They have chips and salsa on the bar which was pretty good. The salsa tasted homemade, but the chips were from a bag. Wish they had been homemade too. We ordered a green chili Philly cheese steak with fries. Wow! So delicious! If you have spent enough time in New Mexico, green chili is on every single menu and I just love it! It adds amazing flavor to everything and I miss it now that I'm back home. If you're looking for an easy going place with a friendly staff in Gallup, this is your place! The decor is fun to admire while you're waiting for your food. Enjoy!!

So great!! Just like grandpa used to make! Delicious, fresh, made to order burgers. There's a fixin' stand in the middle of the restaurant so you can add whatever you'd like to your burger (lettuce, tomato, onion, jalepeños etc). They make all burgers well done unless you ask and they will make it however you'd like! Ambiance is western country, clean and casual. Definitely stop in if you're driving through Gallup!

We were on a road trip and stopped here for lunch. The food was fine but nothing particularly special. It was basic burgers, sandwiches, etc. with fries. There was nothing wrong with it but nothing exciting about it either.

Yeah, I am at a loss about Gallup just in general. The one half-mile stretch of Old Historic Route 66 looks charming, but the rest of the city seems just... ghetto. We passed by even a thrift store that proudly called themselves "Ghetto Fabulouz" and I kind of sense that the whole experience to be had in Gallup kind of hovers around the "meh" category when it comes to catering to their tourist audience. With that said, Grandpa's caters to its locals through their burgers and semi-mexican fare of enchiladas and combo plates. I had the turkey burger and had them substitute the fries for zucchini fries. Hubby had the chili cheese burger and fries. I assume he enjoyed his meal; he left it clean without a single crumb left. I on the other hand, wasn't too pleased. The fried zucchini, was zucchini rings with batter on it that got burnt in the flash fryer. Upon eating through maybe 4~5 of them, I see that these were cut with ridges, probably so that the batter would hold. But man, are they tasteless. I dunk'em in the provided ranch sauce, which has absolutely no flavor. I go over to the condiment station (which is an awkward walk past onlooking patrons and crying babies), and fix myself a mix of mayonnaise, ketchup, and a bit of worstchester sauce to make up my own fry sauce. Little better. I now take a bite of my turkey burger, which I dressed with my own special fry sauce, some mustard, and some sketchy limp lettuce, onion and tomatoes again from the weird condiment station. At half the burger point, I give up. There was nothing I could do to make my meal any more enjoyable. I pick apart the thing and decide maybe the other stuff or patty alone might be worth filling my stomach. I nibble through some of the flavorless stuff, and once I took one bite of the somehow sour or weirdly-too-tomato-y taste of my tomato slice, I heard the blaring warning sirens in my brain. It was time to put the napkin over the plate and walk away. i don't know what it is about this whole trip, but it just seems like whatever I order sucks and my husband just likes anything / everything he's ordered. But anyhow fellow Yelpers, don't let my opinion sway your decision, I'm sure you have better judgement on mom and pop burger joints.

OMG yes. Grandpa's was great. We were looking for an authentic burger stop and this was it. The flavor is great, that real bbq charcoal grill flavor. Staff was very friendly. Also, the place is in a different place on the map than yelp says it is (or than google maps says it is). It's the correct address but you have to go up over the hill then you'll see it. It truly looks weird from the outside but it's great inside. It looks like an old mountain man's cabin mixed with route 66 memorabilia. Tasty, fun, funky, great. :) Grandpa's!!!! SO much better than McDonald's! Go here. MMM.

We were wanting one last New Mexican green chili burger before we left the state. We found a great one at Grandpa's grill. The burger was big, fresh and loaded with green chills. Yum. It was an added bonus to partake of the salsa/condiment in which we loaded up the big burgers even more. Service was friendly and the walls decorated with items dating back decades were interesting. We would stop again. Note: the yelp map was a little off. The restaurant was about 3 blocks past where it's shown on the map.

This is why I love Yelp! Looked for a yummy lunch spot in Gallup, NM and this place had great reviews. It doesn't look like much from the outside, more industrial and very plain. Once you walk inside, its a big difference. Western style, order at the counter. They have lunch specials. (I had the Taco Bowl, yummy) They have a buffet set-up in the middle for garnishes with free salsa, fresh and tasty. Even though you order at the counter, the servers were always checking on us and you could tell they loved working here. I will return when I come back into town.

Classic case of "don't judge a book by its cover." When you pull into the parking lot of Grandpa's Grill, you may have your doubts. Gravel lot, old sign, building that looks pretty rundown. Don't let it fool you. Once you step inside, the place is warm and the staff is inviting. You order at the counter, then take a seat and your food is brought to you. While you're waiting, you can help yourself to free chips and salsa at the little bar in the middle of the dining room. I ordered the Avalanche Chicken Sandwich - super filling and delicious. Boyfriend had the Western Burger and wasn't disappointed. Overall, a solid, quick stop that's a great alternative to the plethora of fast food joints nearby.

Their mobile app listing says 10% off entire meal with check-in. But they will not honor it! As soon as we started talking about 10% off the cashier began shaking her head "no." Food was sub-par. The plain cheese quesadilla we ordered off the kid's menu for one kid was loaded with hot sauce. I do not see how they expect a small child to eat spicy food. So we had to share parts of our food with her. The boy ordered a hot dog and could only finish half of it. She had a Mama burger which was ok, but the fries were not. I had the hot ham n cheese. The ham was very salty, full of fat and obvious the cheapest they could find. Add to all this we had our meal interrupted three separate times to be solicited to buy stuff from people. We came here based on other Yelper's reviews but this is not a place I can recommend at all. I wished I had gone to Furr's.

We ordered some dinner for pick up, and it was by far some of the best take out we'd ever had. We've never had a bad meal here by the way. I had bacon & avocado cheeseburgers with extra crispy fries, and my buddy ordered the chicken southwest with red chile. My burger was so flavorful, the bacon was crispy goodness, and the avocado was fresh. I love it when my burgers don't fall apart lol I'm one of those weirdos, and it kept it's shape and was so so so good. I want another....until next time GG.

It's a little off the beaten track but Yelp reviews brought us here. Don't be put off by location or outside appearance but apparently it's a favorite for locals. You order up front and there were two specials on chalk board. We split a bacon cheeseburger with onion rings. Order came with a generous order of fries and a large sofa for $9. I ordered a side salad which had tomatoes, shredded carrots - I chose the cilantro lime dressing - tart but good. There is a fixings bar to add to burger and chips and salsa. I agree, burger was indeed charbroiled and very tasty. Fries are so-so - about equal to McDonalds. Unfortunately the restrooms were not clean - thank goodness they did have toilet seat covers! I'm not sure we would stop there again. Let's leave to the locals!

After driving northwest from Las Cruces, we stopped at Grandpa's Grill for lunch. The outside of the restaurant is not anything special, but the inside is nice. You place your order and your meal is served to your table. There is a salsa/fixings bar to supplement your meal. I had the Shroomin' Philly Cheesesteak sandwich with fries and my wife had the Alpine sandwich (turkey and avocado) with fries. Both meals were very good. Service was very good also.

Passing through on our way home to Dallas, TX. We missed our hotel breakfast and wanted something better than Denny's and this place was it for sure! We called at 10:59 AM and even though breakfast was over at 11:00, they said they'd still make us breakfast whenever we arrived! It was fresh and ever so tasty! I had the cinnamon French toast and it was incredible! The portions were quite generous. We couldn't even finish everything. The service was fabulous and the staff so friendly. Highly recommend this little find for breakfast. I also got a glimpse of a very tasty looking taco salad!

Pretty good chile cheese fries. Hamburgers aren't cooked to order, but chips and salsa bar are great appetizer. Eclectic atmosphere inside a funky looking building.

Came here during a road trip with my most beautiful, smart, caring, loving and awesome fiance for a quick lunch. We ordered chicken burrito and salad. Big portions. Fresh ingredient. Good atmosphere and clean. Glad to have found this place on Yelp. :)

I agree on outside looks of industrial building. Go inside, great Rt 66 stuff on walls. Had a Philly sandwich and a burger in a tortilla. Green chilli has a bite, but not terrible. Reminds me of mild giardiniera Recommend a stop in and see. Great food and quantity.

This is a basic small town dinner, the very friendly sort. It is a local favorite, so I bring my customers here for lunch. I am here a few times a year and the staff remembers me, not just because I am obnoxious, it's that friendly. The burgers a fries are pretty basic, stick to the specials and mexican food.

Ok it's Gallup so don't expect much The food was blah but edible; the staff spacey; the ambiance uninspired, even a bit trite. All of that was about what we expected.

Guys. Important. If you have to eat in Gallup, and I mean seriously, life or death here, then absolutely eat here and only here. Rolled in with my boy Master Reginald of P-deezy, sporting nothing but the freshest aerodynamic joggers, a clean polo(physically and stylistically), and a charcoal grey zippy-doo by Nike Couture. I could go for an hour about this get up, but if you could smell what I'm smelling now, you'd wonder if he paid dollar for the sweet Eau de Toilet, or if the smoke of retreat is clouding my perspective. The decor is throw back, but you can eat here any day, including Thursday. Come here after church, before a slumber party, while clothes are the laundry, it's all the business. Get pretty much anything on the burger. Tasty. Eggs. Over easy, liquid. Bacon. Fried Shrooms, totally legal. That ranch dip. Friends, family, over eating, purging, more eating. Nice!

Passed through on my way to Nebraska. The place smelled so good when we walked in... My boyfriend ordered pork chops in green sauce. Pork chops were very tender, but green sauce was bland. Complimentary chips and salsa were not the best I've had. Looking at the menu, I couldn't figure out if the place was a Mexican or burger joint. There was nothing Mexican about the decor. The food was also on the expensive side, especially for its quality. I, on the other hand, had what I thought was a decently tasting turkey burger. That night, I barfed my guts out at the hotel. Food poisoning. Now whenever I think of New Mexico, the first thing that comes to mind is endless puke. Grandpa turned out not to be so nice afterall.

Found this place because of Yelp, and let me tell you I was extremely satisfied! I came in with a fairly large party after a meeting as we were all hungry. After pulling into the parking lot I was a little sketchy of going into the establishment because it looked extremely rundown, but I wanted to show the "big wigs" how you have to trust your Yelp findings. We were all extremely impressed with the food quality as well as shocked after seeing the interior of the place. This is a perfect example of don't judge a book by it's cover!

Great place to go to have some good fried zucchini!!! They have delicious burgers!! I usually always get the Momma Burger, which is always good! This is definitely a place my family & I love to come!

No joke, just get the burger. It was excellent. It has a very distinct flavor. You can watch them grill it. When you get there it looks like a dump from the outside be once you're in it is charming and has a good character. You walk to the counter, order and then seat yourself. Stop at the buffet and get the chips and salsa. It's free, no one told me. Sit, enjoy the chips, look at the cool items on the wall. When you food arrives, open mouth and consume.

Cute! Good burgers, decent complimentary chips and salsa, and a little off the main drag so you don't feel quite so touristy. For example, the local police were eating here when we came - that's a good sign of a great local joint!

I really would recommend this restaurant. They have a lot of choice on the menu. My husband and I both had a different hamburger with fries. The hamburger as well the fries were very good. There is a bar where you can get tortilla chips and salsa as much as you like and all kind of fresh things, like tomato, onions etc. to add to the dish chosen. We liked the environment and the very kind and helpful staff. We will eat here again during our stay. Ed and Frederike From The Netherlands.

A real find in a town smothered in fast food franchises. Pay no attention to the exterior of the building as it is almost industrial. The interior is warm and friendly. The service is excellent as is the food with plenty of choices and at a super value.

I'm pretty sure they have their grandpa churning out awesomely delicious foods in the kitchen....not not really, more like a friendly bunch of strapping young Mexican gentlemen. I've been here twice while here in Gallup on a business trip. This place gets packed in the evening hours, and I've only been here during the weekdays. However, there is ample seating. Customers range from Family friendly Navajo or Anglos to young hipsters (didn't know they existed in Gallup) to old couples to scary guys sitting by themselves staring at me. Eww. About the food- so effing delish. I ordered an Abuelos plate (juicy hamburger patty covered in green chile sauce with a side of. Mexican rice, refried beans and a green salad. Tasted so fresh. They also have a free unlimited condiment bar with veggies for burgers and chips and homemade salsa! The wait for the food is reasonable, but I end up stuffing my face bottomless chips and salsa. This place is a gem.

If you're looking for that one awesome place where the locals all eat, this is it. Polite staff, clean facilities, and delicious food make this the perfect place to stop and re-fuel on your road trip. Don't miss the fried mushrooms -best I've ever had, by far.

Best Green Chili Cheeseburger in Gallup! Probably one of the best in the state. I would put this burger against the big dog's like Owl Cafe, Bobcat, and Buckhorn. Chili cheese fries and breakfast burritos are also delicious.

Great meal; BBQ smoke drew us in. Unique decor and friendly service. This was one of those delightful finds which wouldn't ever be known without Yelp. The place was off on the less-commercial side of Gallup NM and was full of locals.

We went out of our way to try this restaraunt after reading reviews. They didn't have BBQ, the burgers were a bit overlooked. The fries were great and the staff friendly. Clientele appeared to be mostly local. Ok for a burger but would not consider this a great place to eat.
