Just returned from The Hiway Grill. We were surprised at the fabulous food we had. I had the Southwest Chicken with green chile and my husband had the NY steak. We both raved at how delicious our food was. They also brew their own beer and it was excellent....I'm not even a beer drinker but the Blonde Ale was wonderful. We are from out of town and staying at the Ruins RV park (also a great place to stay for enjoying the surrounding areas) and there is not many choices in Aztec other than fast food joints. The Hiway Grill isn't not all that attractive from the outside but man-oh-man the food was yummy. We'll be taking another visit there before we leave. Signing off with a happy tummy

Stopped at Hiway Grill on a road trip from Durango to Albuquerque. From the reviews, I thought it was going to be a hole-in-the-wall but it actually wasn't. The restaurant was spacious and appeared clean and possibly just repainted. We ordered the appetizer sampler which included salsa, guacamole, queso, and chips. The guacamole and queso were tasty, but the salsa wasn't our favorite. Tasted like blended tomatoes and that is about it. They did honor our 50% off yelp coupon! :) As for meals, I had the bacon, lettuce, avocado, and tomato sandwich. It was pretty good but had SO much pepper! My friend had the spicy roast beef sandwich on ciabatta and that was very delicious. The baked mac and cheese as a side was our favorite part of the meal. Absolutely no problems with service, the staff was great. The meal ended up being $26 for the food and two coffees. We both agreed that we would definitely come again.

Looks almost like a deserted old building from the outside & like a dive bar diner when you look inside - but the food was really good & service friendly. Had fried chicken fingers that were clearly made from scratch & not dumped out of a box. The Mister liked his sandwich. Apple tart dessert was great, light flakey pastry & fresh apples. Open all day, would be a good place to hang out if you had some time to kill. Ambiance is ok for women - some divey places feel skeezy & borderline unsafe to me - but this place had a bunch of old ladies playing cards at one of the big tables while other folks sat at the bar & watched sports. Good selection of beer & wine. Overall two thumbs up, would happily go back.

Just had an early lunch. Not many people here but great service and delicious food. I had the flaming burger and the habenero mayo was just the right amount of spice Easy to find right on US550 and near Aztec National Monument.

Stopped to eat here on our road trip from Durango to Albuquerque. I ordered the Chipotle Meatloaf and it was good. It was a little dry though but overall very tasty. My husband ordered the tortilla burger and he said it was good. I would stop by again.

Doesn't look promising from the outside, and the bathrooms aren't pleasant, but the food and service were excellent. Fresh, well made, inexpensive, and the staff and owners clearly take pride in serving great food.

Nice outdoor porch out in the back. Relaxing atmosphere, friendly, food just good. I went there because the reviews were good, it would help them if the had more front road appeal.

I ate here before the new owners took over it was outstanding. The new owner/chef is bringing his own "twist" to the menu..... Keep that at home to poison yourself. The good was horrible. The service was slow. The owner came out to see how it was. I politely told him it was just ok to be nice he said ... Then don't come back if you don't like it. Then they mixed up out bill with another table then looked at me like it was my fault. Never again.
