The reviews of this place were all great and there was a Yelp deal, we didn't have the kids and I was in the mood for steak so we decided to try some place new. Upon walking in the interior was nicer than expected but I was confused by the design choices. At first glance it looked like they were trying to achieve a fine dining experience and after looking at the menu that was reflected in the prices. Candles on each table, cloth napkins and tablecloths added to this atmosphere, unfortunately this is pointless as there are pictures of various aircraft from warthogs to p-40's all over the interior and even a water stained ceiling tile. A tile mosaic that seems like a remnant of perhaps a Chinese restaurant oh and lets not forget the 50" HDTV that's playing Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune? The service was good but I expected that since we were the only people in there for a significant part of our meal. I will say the service did not suffer when another table did arrive. The waiter brought out tastes of a couple of wines which was very nice. I unfortunately forgot the waiters name but I would like to give him some kudos as he was the best part of the dinner. I ordered the top sirloin with lobster tail which was preceded by bread and salad, the salad was mostly iceberg lettuce with some romaine which I wasn't expecting based on the price of my meal. The bread was fine and the butter wasn't stored in a fridge so it spread easily which was nice. Then came the main course, (to preface this when the waiter asked how I wanted my steak cooked my SO said "just chop off the tail and bring it out") when I was ordering I went for the medium rare but even had a dialog with the waiter about how I prefer my steak on the rare side I just didn't want it under-cooked. I ended up leaving most of it on the plate under my napkin. My first cut into the steak was disappointing but it was an edge piece so I figured I'd just give the well done part to my SO who prefers meat to be cooked. The steak was medium to well throughout, I gave one bite to my SO and ate 2-3 bites from the center of the steak where it wasn't quite as cooked. The lobster was larger than I expected which was nice, they also cut it out of the tail which I always hate doing so thanks for that. That said size doesn't matter in this case, I ate every bite of it despite it being rubbery mostly because I was starving and the meal was too expensive not to try to get full on. They did bring us a glass of some brandy they apparently make in house which was very nice of them. I really wanted to like this place, my SO loves hole in the walls that surprise you and after eating some great meals in some shady looking spots I've grown to enjoy finding that hidden gem. I know I could have told the waiter the meal was not up to my standard but honestly nobody I know ever sends a meal back unless there is something catastrophically wrong with it and I'm no different.

First off, allow me to say that we really enjoyed "dinning" here. In fact, we "dinned" real good like. Real good! (Yelp, I've looked up how to correct typos in the names of places, but was unsuccessful. What's the magic method?) The other mistake is that Google Maps had the location of this place at the OLD location. They've since updated it (after I sent an edit suggestion), but Yelp still has it at the old location. For the record: This joint is east of Wyoming, not east of Carlisle, where the old location is now an antiques store. Don't go there looking for prime rib. So... Major points for tacky-upscale atmosphere (including creeping plastic vines and framed photos of fighter jets and, always a big deal for me...cloth napkins!). The best thing about this place, though, was the friendly vibe and service. We asked for a banquette in the vacant front room, and they didn't bat an eye before seating us there, away from the octogenarian crowd, in our own cozy, quiet room. (Another word on atmosphere: The music, thankfully, was not Top 40 radio pop, but it was the radio. Major points off for that, but it was the light jazz station, so instead of the original Top 40 standards, we were treated to the Muzak versions of "Sussudio" and other fantastical hits. I assumed it was satellite until the announcer's voice came on, but luckily the local used-car-lot ads were short and fairly unintrusive compared to the endless ads on rock radio, though bad enough that it would weigh on my decision of whether or not to return. Yeah, I'm a major music snob, and I don't like paying good money to have to listen to commercial schlock. When you play the radio for your customers, you're dialing it in in a major way. It says that you've put zero thought into atmosphere [despite the aforementioned creeping plastic vines and fighter jets]. Invest in satellite, mp3's, or CDs. Even if I'm the only person on the planet who will notice. It's the classy thing to do. And Town House, you're nothing if not classy.) Another word on friendly: The co-owner, Frank, came by to chat us up. He offered to decant our Gato Negro Merlot himself, and dropped a couple business cards before attending to other tables. Class act. The food: The app selections are unappealing and not very imaginative, many of them deep-fried. We got the fried zucchini slices with a side of ranch because, well, there just wasn't much there that grabbed us. The entree selections are pretty basic, unremarkable, hearty American and Greek fare. I got a top sirloin and my date got the chicken kabob. Both were pretty good. Steak was broiled appropriately, and the carrots and baked potato were standard tasty fare. But it's not the food you come here for. It's the overall experience of an old-school joint with cloth-napkin pretension, a totally friendly family vibe and, if you're lucky, your own banquette in a private room. Keep doing what you do, Town House Dinning Room.

Open for Business! Fine dining, professional staff, owners on site and GREAT FOOD! We've waited a long time for the Town House to reopen and it's finally happened. Located in the old Mint Saloon on east central, building has beed complete renovated and everything inside is new. Come on by and visit with George and Dino and have a lovely meal with them. Hamburgers, Fish, Prime Rib, K Bobs, Steaks, Salads and the best soups in town.

While the area of town is a bit sketch, the food was quite good. A small antipasto plate instead of bread basket was given before ordering and had a creamy, imported feta alongside olives, artichoke hearts, and dolmathes-quite tasty! Dinner was prime rib for myself and pork shish-ka-bob for the hubbs. While the pork was a bit overdone and dry, the prime rib was beyond excellent! Tender, juicy, perfectly cooked and seasoned-very nice! Side of Greek potatoes and broiled carrots were perfectly cooked, tender and flavorful. Dessert was a shared baklava-a bit syrupy but delicious. Also, complimentary watermelon and glasses of digestif wines were wheeled out-good stuff but we were quite full. We will be back!

First the restaurant is not in nob hill so it took us a little longer to get to and there is not much of anything around it. Honestly driving up we were a little wary as the building appears to be older & in need of some remodeling and the parking lot was empty. After we went inside, the "dining room" name seemed very fitting as it is just that, a large simple dining room setup. Yes, there are some opportunities for improving it's ambiance, paint, choice of mixed wall decor, but the individual table, cloth setups & lighting were very charming. The restaurant was empty on a Saturday night (we were there a hour before closing so that could have been some of the reason) but we were promptly greeted by the owner and staff with smiling faces and easy conversation which was maintained through the night. The server had some difficulty opening our wine bottle and my boyfriend ended up assisting but we all got a nice laugh out of it. Not that big of a deal to us but I could see that bothering future guests. When the food came out the salad was very crisp and fresh and both blue cheese and feta dressings were delicious. The main courses though are what made it all worth the drive!!! The sirloin and prime rib were outstanding! Looking back I probably could have ordered it to be prepared just "medium" not "med-med. well" as the steak was slightly too well and then the meal would have been perfect. I realized more than half way through my meal that I was struggling cutting my steak so much because I didn't receive a knife like my boyfriend did for his prime rib. That would have helped. The lobster tail was cooked perfectly not rubbery. All of the sauces & juices that came with the meal were very tasty. My only complaint for the meal would have been that maybe the timing of the entrées to the baked potatoes being ready needs to be altered slightly as the potato was steaming hot but my carrots (which tasted great) were slightly cold and the steaks weren't as hot as we have experienced. The meal was topped by their on the house beverages "foot warmers". These were a minty warm delight and surprisingly a lot of different alcohol goes into their creation. We thought it was a unique & nice way to our end meal. Overall, the service and experience were great and we were glad we made the drive. We definitely would recommend this restaurant!!

I wanted to experience some nostalgia by trying out the "new" Town House". Prime rib was great. Service was a bit slow. At this point about 3 stars. The kicker was when they refused to honor the Yelp voucher. After a lengthy deliberation with the "manager", the lone waiter came over and apologized and said that they did not take "yahoo" and that he had no idea how they had gotten "signed up." The non-response from their manager speaks volumes about their customer service. My recommendation is that unless you want to pay $30 for a $15 meal, stay away!

Me and my husband went here expecting a wonderful meal because of all the good reviews. But low and behold we were VERY disappointed, especially for the prices they are charging. Save your money and gas and don't come here. I'd give it negative stars if I could. First nobody acknowledged us when we first came in, and we're only sat because the only table in the place at that time yelled for one of the owners, and even then she seemed reluctant. The server was nice and did the best he could. The atmosphere was clean, but very dated. The cheese stick appetizer was good but the ranch served with it was cheap and watery. We tried to order caesar salads which they don't have and I thought was weird since it is suppose to be a steak house. The salads we did get weren't anything spectacular, a little heavy on the red cabbage for my taste, and the bell peppers tasted as if they hadn't been washed. I got a New York strip and baked potato. The strip was cooked to the correct temperature but slightly bland, some of the Au ju sauce from my husbands plate helped though. He ordered the prime rib and scallops, which he was excited to get but all hope was dashed when his plate arrived. The prime rib was the end piece and was tough, chewy, and fatty. We had expected the scallops to be sautéed but they had been breaded and deep fired (not stated on the menu) they were also very bland and served with a bottled tarter sauce. We told the server and asked if he could have a Rueben instead, without a side since he had eaten the baked potato from his original plate. When the server told the cook we heard the cook yell out very angrily in the dinning room (since he was sitting at a booth with the owners) I want to see that plate, right now! My husband said the Rueben was okay, a bit greasy but edible. From the moment we complained we were treated with loathing and disrespect. After we got his Rueben we could hear the cook, and the owners talking shit about us, since they all were seated at a booth staring at us. I don't think they knew we could hear them since all their patrons are up there in age, so all conversations were spoken loudly. We heard the cook telling the owner at one point that there was nothing wrong with the plate since my husband supposedly ate half of it." Which is a bold face lie since he only ate 1 of the 6 scallops, and 2 bites of the steak. As expected the owners never came by to speak to us, but did to all the others tables, (the whole 3 others). They charged us full price for the baked potato and salad, and only took 50 cents off the sandwich meal. This is some of the worse customer service we have had, and it's up there with the the times we have been discriminated against since we are an interracial couple.

Wow, what a fun experience. I know--that's not what you were expecting to hear, but it's true. My son and I met my parents here on a week night, in the middle of a Tremendous Downpour in late July. Driving up Central in this rainstorm was a feat in and of itself, with water flowing over the sidewalks. At least we missed the hail. I'd never been here, but my parents said this place has been around for decades and they were located in Nob Hill until fairly recently. This place looks like its been in the same location for decades--it has that 1970s or earlier feel to it, sort of like Paul's Monterey Inn, but not quite as nice--more of a diner feel. The server had just placed an appetizer in the middle of the table--a plate of kalamata olives, bread, pepperoncinis, feta, and eggplant. I ordered a glass of wine. The server was really pleasant and friendly. A few minutes after my son and I sat down, there was suddenly this large man behind my son who placed his big hand on my son's head and started talking about a gift that he has for my son...The owner brought him a ceramic nutcracker that he said he had given to a little girl 20+ years ago and she recently came back with her family to this restaurant and brought him the nutcracker, thanking him for the gift, and asking him to pass it on to another child. So, the owner gave it to my son and asked him to do the same some day. I think my son was scared to death of this guy at first and I have to admit I had no idea what was happening initially. Anyway, it was very sweet. The owner's wife was also super friendly and talkative. For dinner, I ordered a salad with grilled chicken. My parents each had the prime rib special, and my son had the unadventurous grilled cheese and fries (sigh). My salad came loaded with stuff--pickled carrots and cauliflower, eggplant, pepperoncinis, salad, lots of grilled chicken, feta, a feta dressing, tomatoes, etc. It was pretty good, though a little heavy. I took most of it home but for the most part, was too soggy to eat the next day. The prime rib looked quite good--I should have had that--and my son loved his grilled cheese. And that nutcracker? It was a ceramic nutcracker full of Jim Beam, still sealed. Awesome.
