Seriously, consistently the worst service in town. I've been to Stoneface and Billy's Long Bar several times but rarely this place. Why? Because the service is horrendous. Yes it was fairly busy but they also had quite a few girls (women wouldn't be this rude) working. One waitress but everyone in our party their drinks except one and it took several reminders to get that other drink. Also, suddenly the waitress/bartender switched my friend's round to a short from a tall. The alcohol content and price are the same but my friend wanted a tall. After two rounds of talls, she suddenly switches to a short? Then she wasn't helpful in fixing the situation. Lastly, I waited for far too long for refills. For men, when the glass is 3/4 empty, I expect to be asked if I want another. That didn't happen. Water refills took forever and I never did get a final refill after asking for it. Come on Billy, your dad would be disappointed. I never have these problems at your other establishments; why do you hire such space cases at HA? I give them 2 stars, only because the food is good bar food. p.s. Learn to pronounce Hoegaarden.

Great place to get drinks quickly with friends. Perfect neighborhood bar/grille. Nachos are amazing. Friendly staff and eye candy behind the bar makes for a good time.

Probably my favorite bar in Albuquerque! Great atmosphere and tucked away in the northeast heights- nice escape from the downtown bars! Surprisingly delicious food! Their menu is pretty great! Awesome burgers, sandwiches, and appetizers! Seriously! It's too good to be considered bar food!

Excellent neighborhood pub, good menu and impressive selection of beers on tap.

Anyone who writes a decent review of this place must be on the payroll. WORST SERVICE IN ABQ!

Great pub food...as for fish & chips..the bomb compared to the kiddy size crap you recieve at O'Neills down the street. Better draft menu & ambiance as well. Dratfs $2.50 on Tuesday! Service with a smile.

Went to this place yesterday with the wife food was great and the beer was cold

The atmosphere is great here, and the outdoor seating is really nice. Our drinks were tasty, as was the food. But, all pretty standard. The lack of star comes from our waitress. She wasn't very excited to be at work. I get it, it's 10pm and you've been on your feet for hours, probably getting really tired of certain people at certain tables. I get it. But the rolling of the eyes, the inpatient exhales, and so forth was a bit unnecessary. I hesitated giving much of a tip, but I did because she seemed to be having a pretty crummy night. Anywho, we'll definitely be back there. I hope our waitress is having a better day next time.

I've been here a few times at night but my recent visit during lunchtime opened my eyes to new dimensions of the H&A Tavern. The lunch cuisine is really good and I like the daytime atmosphere. It's a great stop for lunch because they have a wide selection of sports on their TVs and it's not too crowded. Plus, you can actually get some work done while you eat if you need to. I'll be back.

Do you like yuppies wannabes and millenials and hipsters? Get on in here for overpriced beer. There is a lot of try hard going on as it has been for years.

I'd give it zero if I could. I've only been here twice. Once was fine--nothing to write home about, but standard for a sports bar. The second time, we had a waitress who had been hired more for her ability to wear booty shorts than anything else. My friend and I ordered a drink each and chips and guac. Our waitress took the order and disappeared. Twenty minutes later, another table who had walked in with us walked out. She had never come back to take their order. We finally got our drinks, but the chips and salsa took another 20-30 minutes. Another table walked out. The place was decently busy, but it didn't seem frantic. There were two other girls there folding napkins in the corner. By this point, we were frustrated (and starving!), so we asked the bartender if there was any way he could just cash us out. We were told that he couldn't, that our waitress had to do it. After inquiring several more times, the manager came over and told us the same thing--they'd go find our waitress, because she had to be the one to check us out. All together, it was an hour and forty minutes for one round of drinks and some chips. I don't know what our waitress' deal was--maybe she was just feeling overwhelmed--but the management couldn't have cared less. We paid full price, and neither of us ever plan on giving them another red cent. Terrible.

First off, this place is not near any of the places that I frequent. It's 25 minutes from downtown and 30 minutes from my house, so I don't have much of a reason to hang out in that area. With that said, I stopped by during ABQ Beer Week and wasn't very impressed. There was definitely an older crowd when I was there on a Friday night. The atmosphere was pretty generic too and reminded me of Bennigan's. They had a decent been menu and our waitress was friendly, but she didn't seem to know much about the beer event that was going on. I order my burger medium well, but it was way overcooked and flavorless. I don't think I'll be returning.

Where do I begin. My boyfriend and I have gone here three times each time hoping to redeem the prior experience. We really really want Horse and Angel to work out for us since it is so close to where we both live. Each one of the three times we have gone, we have had awful service. The waitresses act like they are doing us a favor by gracing us with their presence. I could care less if you're hungover- I just want my drink without a half hour turn around time. Twenty five minutes on average for our drinks to get to us. The food is ok...would be better if it came warm. On the one occasion we ordered food, my boyfriend's food was cold. We sent it back and had to wait another twenty minutes for his reheated plate to return. I could go on and on with specific examples about the awful service but I dont have time to write a novel. Save your time and money and go to Spectators.

Wish I could give it 0 stars!! I had their Bacon Bleu Cheeseburger, and got sick that night. A party member in my group called them back a few days ago and the lady who answered the phone said she got sick also!!! I guess their beer is safe. Not sure that it's served at the correct temperature. Eat/Drink at your own risk!!!

There's a time and a place to do Guys Night Out, and Horse & Angel is certainly one of those places. Boasting an impressive worldwide collection of beers, some crafty cocktails, a big lineup of bar eats, TVs everywhere and waitresses in teeny tight outfits, the (straight) guys have the bases covered. Female patrons also pepper the tables, women who could care less about the less-than-subtle testosterone vibe. It's one of few places in the Heights that caters to the relaxed happy hour crowd, where casual is easy, and so is a cigarette on the patio. I suppose I had some preconceived notions of what I would experience based on the title alone. "Tavern" in my book doesn't equal Sports Bar. In Europe, taverns have an occupancy limit of maybe 50, no televisions, and likely no cocktails save a breadth of good scotch and gin. The vibe is always an intimate one, where you can make new friends alongside your mates. The "Horse & Angel" element would be reflected in the pub sign out front, usually with some historical significance behind it. So label me an arse, I'm okay with it. If the place was called Benny's Hideout, or something, I would have expected what I got. And for the record, what I ordered was fine. The fish & chips were massive, I wouldn't say by any means epic, but pretty tasty. My house margarita was kind of a snore, but the Belgian brew that followed it up was mighty fine. Our server was really cool and she didn't do the whole skimpy routine. This bar has a time and a place, so just know what you're getting into before you go.

For being a local pub that caters to sports fans, they sure do have great food and an excellent beer selection. A few rotating tap handles keep things interesting. My favorites as far as food - fish and chips (very shareable), buffalo burger, reuben (thick cut corned beef) and nachos. Just note, if you're under 21 you won't be let in during the evening hours, even with older family members.

This is the best bar in the area by far. Food is really good. Best value. Try it you will like it. Lots of sports on TV too

What puts this place into the 4 star category for me is the selection of beers. They have a lot, and they're on draft. For the traditionalist/less experimental crowd you can always get something like Budweiser in a bottle, but branch out. This place can be a good spring board. As Howie noted, it's not so much a traditional tavern as it is a big sports bar. So be aware of that. Lots of TVs, big sports crowd during game day. Decent decor and crowd, lots of open space and big tables. Decent food, but nothing outstanding. That's OK, just stick to basic bar menu items (wings, chips, burgers) and you'll be fine. This isn't a steak house, after all.

I don't know, I like Horse and Angel. Granted, I have not been here on some crazy Saturday night. But I have come for happy hour with co-workers, and to watch some sports and never had a bad experience. The best things about this place: the beer selection, the good TV coverage, and the cool pub atmosphere. I haven't been here in the summer, so can't say a lot about the patio, but it looks nice. I'm sure it's smokers heaven out there, so I'll probably skip it in most cases anyway. Important for me, there are lots and lots of good beers on tap, including a number of locals. Big thumbs up on that one. The food is good, and the portions are large. The prices seem okay for the most part, but they do get you for the upcharge on some items (an addition $2 to substitute asparagus instead of fries??). But, other than that, the portions are good. The selection is slightly above average for a pub around town. I'm not sure that this will be my go-to place, but it's good and I will definitely be back.

Food was okay but we will not be returning. Read the menu carefully. They up charge...by a lot. Our waitress tacked on the add ons with no forewarning. $2 extra for onion rings and if you want your nachos "with everything " that means you want to pay an extra $6. Disappointed in the shady business practice.

A pretty decent lil neighborhood bar that doesn't feel like your in suburban USA .. I've stopped in on wkends or late nights before & felt like I just walked into a frat party complete with hazing...but seriously the appetizers are bombin & the wait staff pretty cool so it must be a full moon cuz here I am!

Full bar, self seat. Mixed drinks are pretty average, they know how to make them, but the sangria isn't impressive. Food is okay, about what you'd expect from how it looks . Maybe it's because it's self seat, but takes awhile to get greeted, and service isn't wonderful, but not too bad. This joint seems to be tailored to the older crowd, and isn't really too fantastic, but it's alright for a quick bite and a drink. I'd go back, but with low expectations.

It's a great bar in the NE heights. It has a ton of tv's for different games. However, I used to go there a lot - I don't as often now due to the service. They at times seen very busy and takes a while to get to you. It's bright and cheery inside which is very welcoming and I love that. The food just is a tad too far on the greasy side of the spectrum for me. Superb beer and spirit list.

5 STARS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Absolutely unbelievable! Our waitress Kathleen was AMAZZZZING she correctly remembered our order and showed fantastic customer service, went above and beyond the call of duty, she went out of her way to make us feel welcome. Which in most restaurants is very rare these days. We will most definitely be coming back. Thank you so much guys! P.S. The fish and chips are to die for!!!

Despite this Tavern being completely out of the way for me, I think I'd go again because of the experience we had here the other day. Their rottisserie chicken wings were awesome, as well as their green chile cheese fries. They also had a pretty decent beverage/beer selection. I also liked the unofficial Packers Fan room last Sunday! I will be back to try more of their food and for the good service!

I came here to watch the NFL Playoffs. Food: I tried the fish and chips. They were perfect. Two big pieces of fish. A ton of fries. Your choice of tartar sauce: Regular, Green Chile, Red Chile. Drinks: Great draft beer selection. Service: Excellent service. Our waitress offered tasters of any beers we were unfamiliar with. Rec: Great spot for watching the game and grabbing a bite.

I went there yesterday and I was a little disappointed. They didn't have any really good happy hour specials. The server was annoyed that I wanted to pay for my share of the check with a credit card. Also they made us close out/deal with the check twice because of a shift change. I would have preferred that they asked us to close out with the first server as oppose to telling us we had to. The nice thing was that they did have a lot of beers on tap and their patio is nice.

Beer list is pretty impressive and always packed the crowd is different it has a douchey appeal but still a decent place they have lots of tvs, pool tables and out door seating.

I will NOT go back to Horse & Angel as long as the current owner manager is there. I noted changes a while back when all of the obnoxious NO SMOKING signs went up on all the patio tables (btw I am not a smoker). This is a BAR, it's outside and that is your immediate receiption...a sign telling you want you can't do. I usually do not expect sports bars to have large wine selections but was happy they carried the wine I liked....then they didn't....then they didn't know...it was a visit by visit adventure. Last night was a good night, the blend I like was in. When it was time to pay the waitress made a point to note that since we arrived before 5:00 (happy hour) our first glass was full price, fine, until I saw the price $10!! Again, this is a sports bar!!! It was a bit of a challenge to get the brand information that warranted the lofty price. The waitress asked if we would like to speak with the manager because in her words "this price is really high" (the poor waitress by the way did her best). We then had the misfortune of meeting the manager, he was RUDE, he was a JERK and soley because of him I will NOT foot in that door. Newsflash H&A manager...you are in a SERVICE related field and people skills really come in handy!!!

You wouldn't think of this place as a breakfast place, but the breakfast options are very fresh and tasty...especially the steak and eggs.

Nice selection of draft beers which is a definite plus for me. I also am a big fan of their breaded Angel wings with sauce on the side! Had a tavern burger and it did not disappoint. Always been a fave of mine. Service is great! If you're up in the far NE Heights stop by, you will not be disappointed.

Went here a few months back to have some lunch, drink a beer and watch some football on a Sunday. When you walk in you think you have found a sweet place with plenty of TV's etc., but then good luck getting any service. We sat for over 30 mins before someone even acknowledged us. Then I went to the bar to try to help myself since the one server seemed very busy, and we could not even order drinks. Everyone was very rude and finally we just left, even though the game we were watching was still going on. What a waste.

Great bar with awesome waitresses. Bikini Top Mondays! Today we tried FU Tuesday with $2.50 drafts (I had iced tea). Half priced appetizers M - F 4 - 7 PM. My only unfortunate experience was the Blue Moon girls avoided me like the plague - just because I'm 7 months pregnant doesn't mean I don't deserve a bottle-opening keychain!

  • Michael H.

The service is absolutely the worst and the food is only marginally better! Using unattractive 21 year old wenches with bad attitudes is no way to run a bar or build a business. The food is decent at best, and Horse tries to create a perception of value with monster portions. The place has so much potential, though the manager, a former bouncer with no training or other management experience, doesn't have a clue on how to hire or train employees. I've been overcharged multiple times and have had to ask him to print out a detail receipt and prove to him what we ordered and how much we paid. I go Horse and Angel only because it's less than a mile from my house, and I know I can get a good seat in front of a TV for a big game...even when I pop in five mines before the kickoff, tip, or first pitch.

I live really close to this place so I'm a little bias. I will tell you that their Fish and Chips are AWESOME. Also, they have an outdoor patio where smokers can smoke freely and not be treated like lepers. Also, they play sports locally and draw a pretty big crowd. The waitresses are always dressed very smikpy and continually remind me to hit the gym, but they're also pretty nice, so it's hard to hate on them. Good spot to have a beer and some bar food. Great place to sit outside, eat and be left alone.

The H & A is an AWESOME neighborhood Sports bar. Great food, great server and bar staff, and lots of flat screen TVs for viewing all kinds of sports venues. We love it.

Stop by every chance we get. Service is top notch. Really reasonable prices. Coupon on 999dine. Never had a disappointing meal and the place is absolutely spotless. Tuesday most drafts are $2.75 and they have a bunch to choose from. Several IPAs--my wife's and my favorite. Try it, you'll like it!

Weak!! why is it that every time this place gets crowded, the bartenders all get pinchy faced?? How can the owners not tell the girls to smile, even when backed up? i don't get it. do they not read reviews here or are they making enough money where they don't give a s###.
