We always enjoy our time here! Food is delicious, service is good, and you can always find a seat. The patio is nice. If you like chicken tenders, make it a point to try the ones here! Delightful, crispy, and come with an awesome dipping sauce. There is also live music sometimes.

The place felt really dirty to me. Like a thick layer of grease topped off with lots of dust. The food was ok. Nothing really outstanding about it. Beer was cold which was nice after a hard day of yard work. The girls where very nice and we did feel well attended to.

From bad to worse... they jacked their prices and cut their portions... now I'm not the only one that won't be buying lunch here... the office in which I work will be dining elsewhere from now on. This, after the manager contacted me to tell me how much they "value" our custom.

Good burger. Had a good band thursday night till 9ish. The Woohabs were playing and were alot of fun.

It's always something with the staff at this place. Minor things but annoying and they add up. They are open later and a convenient location to us so we have tried them a number of times but there is just always something off with the service here. On our last attempt to eat here they just wouldn't answer the phone. We called 3 times trying to order takeout and kept getting the voicemail. We ended up going to another local bar/restaurant that could answer the phone.

My wife and I needed to be in this area last nigh so we figured we'd get dinner around there and found this place on Yelp. I have to say, it had promise but was a bit of a let-down. We sat outside to escape the crazy-loud live music but then we had to suffer through people smoking out there. Not a nice way to eat. Our server was mostly attentive but rushed. When our food came, it was a mixed bag. My burger was very well seasoned but also way overcooked. I ordered medium and got well done. My wife's chicken was pretty good though whomever made it (or wrote the menu) doesn't know the difference between green onions and chives. The draft beer menu was large but mostly uninspiring. The canned menu was interesting but the waitress never heard of the can I ordered and they didn't have it. Overall, we though it was fine but we're not in any hurry to return. But if we do, we'll also aim for a night without music (I never understand the attraction of blasting music, whether live or not, in a restaurant. I want to be social and talk, not be at a concert. But that may just be me...)

The servers are always great, but if I could say one thing about the Barley Room is I wish they were consistent. Pizza & Meatball subs are the best things not on the menu. Twitter says one thing & the servers say another. Depending on the night pizza and server Pizza is available. On some Wednesdays you can get the wings on special before 7 PM. Tonight the street tacos were iced cold & no pizza was available. The servers are friendly & prompt but the food is hit & miss. They have tried to successfully reinvent themselves but only most of the time. It's a great neighborhood bar but the food is a gamble.

I've been coming here for at least 9+ yrs now. I've seen the staff change, food change, and bands that play here come and go. However what's always made it consistent is the customer service aspect. Friendly servers/bartenders, mutual friends that come here and of course a fully stocked bar and well rounded beer collection. I am in love with the Mexican Egg Rolls and the Green Chile Chicken Alfredo are to die for!! Come in for a pint, if you're here and ask for Maya, Olivia, Amethyst or Mikey and tell them Michael L sent you.

Consistently disappointed. Neighborhood bar that should be at minimum acceptable, but the service is always poor & drinks are less than marginal. However, food is decent tasting.

Very much enjoyed this on our trip to Albuquerque! Friendly staff, loud but enjoyable band on a Saturday night and busy but not so packed we find a spot in the back to enjoy the music and still be able to talk. Nachos were good, drinks were timely and bill was what we expected. Nice open crowd, plenty of older, thirty somethings and some younger people everyone was welcome. On the negative side the website doesn't list what time bands start playing and when you call the recording stated what band but again no time. Something that can easily be added to both. We will come back the next time we visit family.

Decent food and brew last night...,but the patio was a thick haze of cancer sticks. We wanted to sit outside and enjoy the evening. However, the smoke was intolerable. So we moved to the covered patio. That was just as bad as the wind blew it in our direction. It is too bad that non-smokers are forced inside. This may be legal, but management should take notice.

LOVE this place! Fun, laid-back atmosphere, amazing food (get the loaded fries!), and great staff and ownership. Highly recommended.

This place is great! Don't let the bar atmosphere scare you away from the food.. It's delicious. The live music and good service keep my boyfriend and I coming here every weekend.

Came here with my boss after a round of golf at nearby Oso. It was afternoon, the place was not crowded, and we were served very attentively. I like this bar because it seems to know what it is (think Cheers, but in Albuquerque, and with more of a blues-y vibe), and it doesn't put on airs. They have a great selection of beers, including regional and seasonals. I also liked the menu options: nothing special, just bar food (deep fried and delicious) but with a little twist. For instance, gouda cheese tater tots. Again, our server was helpful in making some suggestions. Nice patio outside. I saw people smoking, so if you enjoy a puff, I think this place is friendly. I can imagine on a nice summer afternoon it'd be a good place to hang out. There's a parking lot nearby, but you're set back.

We have been here twice and both times they have come outside to greet us within a minute and the food was great. Even the other patrons are friendly and nice. They brought our dog out a water bowl without even asking for it. Definitely recommend to chill, drink a beer and eat something light.

It was NFL Sunday fun day and I tried some chain places first, but the wait was ridiculous. Found the Barley room and the bartender walked out from behind the bar and changed one of the MANY TV's to my teams game. Waitress was very attentive and the drinks were well made. Its a Steelers bar, but i wont hold that against them. Great atmosphere and most of the locals were really nice and gave me ideas of things to do while I was in town. There are always idiots that think they own the bar (regulars) and one even tried to pick a fight with me and a few others in the bar. Waitress calmed him down and kicked him out. I enjoyed myself regardless and would go back. Great appetizers and solid menu as well

I went there for the first time and was really impressed. I got the club and it was by far the best club I'v ever had! It was perfect. I got the sweet potato fries and those where great as well. There was kind of an older crowd but still fun with the live music and our server was on point. Very pleasing experience.

  • Jenn H.

I can look over the fact that this is a "Steelers" bar. But all in all had a great time here. The crowd is somewhat "older", but the live music was a blast! It seems the main crowd is here early. By midnight, the place was basically half empty. Nice patio, servers were nice. I had a Long Island Iced Tea, and that was made very well. :0) I know they serve food, but I haven't had the food in 6 or so years. I've been here a few times in the past. The clientele seems to have changed a bit, or maybe I'm just getting OLDER myself. Extra star for CLEAN bathrooms! And you can smoke right out front or on the spacious patio, no hassles. I'm sure I'll go back for the live music, especially if the Memphis P-Tails are playing again! \(^o^)/

This is like the local cheers of the NE heights. It has great food, especially considering its a bar. Great/friends staff. Must try the Gouda tots! (Specialty) they get live bands that play there, however mostly for the older generation not a young adult night place and for me personally it's a tad loud. It's not super dark which is a plus. But they have a great patio with cook lights and easy access to the bar. Ask for a Bloody Mary on the weekend with one of their fantastic breakfast burritos! Must try.

finally made it for Taco Tuesday.......... tacos for a buck a piece, okay.......... beats not eating while drinking for sure........... only tried the crispy beef, ( chicken and fish are $ 2) now if they had a beer I liked for cheap , that would be great..........

Great beer prices and decent food. I come here often, and have to say that the Barley IPA is one of my favorite local brews, and reasonably priced. The food is tasty, although the sandwiches can be pretty messy. Multiple live bands throughout the week, friendly staff, and good food and drinks will keep me coming back to this place.

We came here for a business dinner with a client. The food was yummy, the drinks were reasonable and the patio is awesome in the evenings. I would definitely like to visit again when I am in ABQ again.

they certainly need some more staff...a group of 6 went there around 4 and we saw our server on average once an hour

Normally I would rate The Barley Room 5 stars, but Yelp seems to think I'm some sort of shill instead of a happy customer, so I'll see if 4 stars gets through their idiotic filter. EDIT: Bumping it up to 5 stars - let's see what happens. Again, I love this bar. Now that spring's here the patio is warming up again, but I'll likely be inside at the high-side bar. It has a very neighborhood, comfortable feel here, with good food and good stock.

This is a great townie bar. It's dirt cheap and the bartenders are all cool people. This is the kind of place where you feel instantly welcome when you sit down at the bar, like an Albuquerque "Cheers". In typical New Mexico fashion, the bar's very unassuming kitchen makes first-rate food. We came on Tuesday and it was "Taco Tuesday"- the tacos were freaking great and only a dollar each. They have a good selection of microbrews for a non-pretentious bar. They have a ton of HD flatscreens so I could follow some baseball while happily drowning my sorrows. The Barley Room is a cozy spot to chill out and have a brew with friendly peeps, on the cheap. I'm a big fan of this place.

Decent neighborhood bar. Great beer selection, attentive staff, and a kitchen that turns out much better than average bar fare.

This place is garbage. Went here last night for a drink with a friend. There were 2 other people at the bar, being taken care of by 2 bartenders and a manager. You'd think with an almost 1:1 ratio of staff to customers that the service would be impeccable. No, no it wasn't. In fact, it was the worst service I think I've ever gotten in the city. Congratulations for that, Barley Room. My drink was empty, but that bartender was far too busy digging through her purse for a candy bar to eat behind the bar to serve me again. Then her drunk friend that was at the bar started crying, so she left the bar to go console her friend and to finish eating her candy. When we flagged down the other girl to get a drink after 10+ Minutes with and empty glass, we were already pissed. Finished our second round at around 1:20, figured they'd be calling last call. Nope. No last call, put money on the counter hoping to close out.. And waited, and waited, and waited. Finally the drunk customer across the bar asked us what we were drinking... "Nothing, our drinks are empty and we're trying to cash out". The bartender then acknowledges us and closes us out. We thank her, she turns around and says nothing back. For a place that boasts on their website that "Over the years, we've been happy to invite our friends over for food and drinks, and have been even happier to welcome new friends to the hangout." Welcome is a far cry from the feelings I had about last night. Do yourself a favor, go to a bar that employs staff that actually want to work there, not a bunch of girls who make it seem like taking care of 4 bar patrons is the hardest task in the world. I hope their owners take this experience extremely seriously, or their measly 4 bar patrons will whither down to none.

I enjoyed my last 2 visits to this bar. The first time, my waitress was cool and engaging. I really liked the service and the appetizer selections. They also serve left hand milk stout.. Yummy! The live music they had was ok but not great. The patio is nice if you don't mind looking out over a parking lot. So far all the staff I have had we're very nice and friendly.

I've been a few times now. Each time staff made me feel welcome. The live music has been awesome. They have a nice selection of beer on tap and the mixed drinks were made just right. Good times!

We went to The Barley Room for dinner last night. We all had something different, and it was all great. The cowboy sandwich was really tasty, as were the French Dip and the burger. Their sweet potato fries were some of the best I've had. The atmosphere is definitely "bar-ish", but hey, that's what it is. The service was excellent.

Nice, mellow neighborhood bar. They have a decent beer selection and a nice patio. The staff is fun and friendly and don't mind if you get a little loud and rowdy. Sandwiches and appetizers are a step above your average bar food. Sometimes they have live music cover bands.

Came on a night for a Humane Society fundraiser, huge mistake. Took an hour to get any food, drinks were almost as bad. Seemed to be plenty of wait staff, so maybe the kitchen was overwhelmed? The inside of the place was empty, the patio full, but just atrocious service. Happy the place does fundraisers for good causes, but I don't see any reason to ever go back.

Great bar, good beer selection, laid back environment, they also play live music on weekends which is pretty good. The crowd though is much older so not really a good place for the younger crowd

  • Pat S.

Been 4 times now and service is ever changing. All occasions there has been a band. (primary reason I drive across town) so the crowd is about half to full each time. Division of control at the bar seems a to be a factor. Ordered food the first occasion after 10 pm and it took forever as the onion rings were frozen food was ok. Some times getting another drink takes involves trying to get the bartenders attention. Bar has some seats that do not seem to work for me or others that I have observed. Last occasion walked in, sat down through two songs on a light customer night and left dry. (in fairness he noticed me and asked as I put away my money and my wallet.) Drink prices ok. Twice I have enjoyed myself and the patrons were friendly, Very clean establishment. Variety of music/bands

Went for lunch at 1pm on a Friday. The place had about three other patrons. Typical bar atmosphere. The bartender came to us quickly and took our drink order and then our food order. Then a waitress brought our food. My bff ordered the NM Chesseburger and it was less than stellar. I ordered the vegetarian sandwhich and it was incredibly greasy. Not one time did the waitress ask us how our food was...and we had to wave her down to get the ticket. Service could have been far better, as there were maybe a total of five of us for lunch. Wont be back!

It is what it is. A beer and chips place that has karaoke. Don't try to make it something it's not, which is what the menu does. I don't go to order a crudite platter or salmon, I go to have chips, salsa, queso and a bottled Dos Equis. Their mixes for their margaritas and bloody marys have an old after taste and their beer glasses always smell like vinegar. So go to watch a game, sing karaoke (or try to ignore it like I do), order a beer in a bottle and eat some chips and salsa. Their salsa is good and I take an order home with me.

Can't believe there are bad reviews for this place. It's one of our favorites. $3 IPA always available is quite good. BLAT sandwich (A for avodaco) can't be beat--nor can taco Tuesday, with beef for $1 chicken or fish are $2. Friendly place--dogs are welcome on the patio anytime. Try it you'll like it!

Alright, so we gave it another try and I have to say I'm quite impressed by the attention the new management has given to customer service. We were immediately surprised by the level of attention and friendliness of the waitstaff during our most recent visit. They were constantly looking around for customers that needed attention and didn't walk by our section without checking in to make sure we had everything we needed. Andy, the new GM, took over about 7 weeks ago and the change in management is definitely noticable. If you've had a less than desireable experience with the Barley Room in the past, I definitely would recommend giving them another chance. My wife and I will definitely be back. Great job Andy!

Decent bar for happy hour. While it isn't the hopping kind of place you'll find downtown or in Nob Hill, you will be able to get cheap eats and drink. They have a happy hour food menu too with $5 specials.

Went here Saturday night for dinner with the family. Never again will I eat here. The food was horrible. The only thing that was edible was the extra plate of fries we ordered. As for the beer, there is an extensive beer list, but they didn't have the first one my husband ordered, and the next one he ordered never arrived. They managed to charge us for it anyway, and then took 10 minutes to get it off of our bill. Awful food, awful service. Perhaps a beer on the outdoor patio would be all I would go here for.

Can say enough good things about this bar! Best patio, best food, best staff great beer selection in town period! Love my new hang out, thanks Barley!

I was really impressed with this restaurant. Nice casual pub atmosphere inside (with patio outside). I had the green chili chicken fetticine and it had such a wondeful taste to it and I ate every single byte. They added all the right ingredients to it to make it special. My friend enjoyed his burger also. Glad it is within a mile from my home. I will definitely go again.

i've been here a few times and had different things off the menu, NEVER been disappointed! the last time i was in the food came a little slow due to some mix up in the back, but hey it happens and the waitress was honest and up front about it and we enjoyed a cold beer while we waited!

I love this place. I have been drinking here for years. Great food for a bar and grill. Friendly service and tons of familiar faces from the neighborhood. The bands and the dancing on the weekend make this bar a great place to spend a night out with friends.

We went on a Monday before the dinner hour got rolling. Our visit was the single worst restaurant experience I've had anywhere. When we first walked in, we noticed the place was muggy and warm. We should have left right then, because having a drink and anything warm would have guaranteed an uncomfortable experience in just a few minutes. So, we blame ourselves for not taking a major hint and leaving. However, not exercising good judgment, we took a seat. My companion ordered bottled beers, which were frosty and good. I ordered a Cosmo. It was weak to the point of seeming like cool Ocean Spray only, so I ordered no more drinks. I thought this odd, as I've had drinks there before, and they were good. We also both ordered the "surf and turf." The shrimp, baked potatoes, and vegetables were good, but the steak, for me, was literally inedible. My companion also thought his steak was extremely overly salted, but ate his because he was so hungry. The server and a manager argued with us over whether the steak I refused to eat could have been too salty--trust me, it was. I could not eat when it came out--I could not eat even after they had purportedly rinsed it off. It seemed brined. I left it on the table. The bill, even using a coupon, came to $40. I have never paid so much for food and drinks that were of so little value relative to price paid. At any rate, for $40 I could easily go to any number of other restaurants in town that have comfortable temperatures in the dining area and that have good steaks. The whole experience was extremely disappointing. I had always thought well of this bar & restaurant although we are infrequent customers, but I won't be going back. We did not get what we paid for, and I was left feeling taken advantage of.
