Mmmm....salad and soup! I have always looked forward to visiting Sweet Tomatoes (or Souplantation as they are known in my native California) since I was a kid. I still get excited and ask my husband on a semi-regular basis if we can have lunch here. I like that you can create your own piled high salad or enjoy one of their prepared salads (of which wonton chicken happiness and the broccoli salad are my favorites). There is usually at least five different types of soup as well, but I usually stick to my favorite - New England Clam Chowder. If I still have room, I also like to take one of the brownies and make myself a brownie sundae. By then, I need to be rolled out of Sweet Tomatoes.

An all you can eat soup, salad & desserts place. I can dig it. Enter, pick up a tray & commence to adding salad & salad fixings on your plate, mosey on up to the register & pay. Grab some liquid hydration of your choice (soda, tea, water) then pick a seat any seat will do. As you eat & push your empty plates to the side, someone will come along & remove then from your table. There's a cool card that you use to tell them if your just away gathering more goodies or you're done, thereby allowing them to clean the space for the next grubber. I think it's kinda cool, considering salad is sometimes not thought of as a meal, but more of an appetizer or a meal accompaniment. Ooooooh did I forget to mention the cool dessert bar & ice cream machine in the rear of the restaurant. Makes taking down all that ruffage alllll the sweeter.

Good food for a chain. They have a posole that's one of the best. Usually better than Soup R Salad. More expensive. Find a coupon online you can save quite a bit.

There are times when a chain restaurant seems necessary. Yeah, I could eat at home. How hard is it to make a salad at home? Yeah, there is a great salad restaurant in ABQ, which is local. Support local! Yeah, yeah. I know. But, there are times when having the ability to create one's own salad, yet given all the choices divvied up by Sweet Tomatoes, is something I need and want. They have a super selection of veggies, along with several different types of lettuce ... um ... unadulterated lettuce, I mean. Yeah, they have the salad-dressing-coated lettuce, but there are some of us who prefer to spice it up our own way. A great selection of dressings range from oil and basalmic vinegar to variations on ranch, such as green chile ranch. I wish they had tuna or tuna salad here. That's pretty much the only thing I crave for, which is never here. Otherwise, they have what I'm seeking in a solid, yummy salad. Beyond salad, there are fun sides and alternatives for those wishing for something a bit more decadent, such as pizza and pasta, cornbread and brownies. This place offers all you can eat on everything, so if you're feeling gluttonous, go for it!

I'm not a fan of chains but Sweet Tomatoes does a nice job. Walk in and grab a tray. Pile up a big ass salad and step up to a very friendly cashier. Kids get comped a milk or apple juice, cool. Ok, it's a little pricey if your going to just have salad. The salads they do have are fresh and you can stack em full toppings (even if the toppings do come from a can). The soups, 6 or 8 to choose from, aren't bad. Good in fact. How many buffets have a plethora of soups? Being a chain they are less than inspiring but still good. Add a little more love and they could be on to something. I don't do much pasta, but the three hot pasta entrees they had looked really good, as did the the sweet and regular baked potatoes. And who doesn't love a dessert bar with mousse, fruit and soft serve? The staff was very friendly, the manager even stopped by every table at one point to offer fresh cookies. As far as buffets go, its a great place to grab a healthy meal!

Not really a fan of salad bars, but hey, when mom wants to go, we go. We got here as the doors were opening at 11am, plenty of fresh veggies and what were labeled as house made dressings. I am a fan of fresh, so I was happy. It was clean, and it should have been, we were the first ones. Temps were nice and cold and the cashier was pleasant. Over $50 for 4 of us...not sure how I feel, the hot part I was hoping would be worthy of the price. Plenty of soups, new England calm chowder was good, broccoli potato soup, well, one bite was more than enough. The pool was surprisingly edible considering where I was eating it. Had a few pasta dishes, the mac and cheese tasted alot like kraft, which I was fine with cuz I love Kraft...but c'mon...I paid a lot, and i don't want Kraft. The cornbread was delicious, as was the whipped honey butter. But everything was just warm. Not one thing was hot. As my stomach can handle alot, I'm sure I'll be fine, but I am positive none of the dishes were brought up to the required temp to serve. Strawberry lemonade was good. I might come back next year if my mom really wants to.

Salads are usually good but lately the soup selection and quality of the soups and pizza has been very disappointing. It seems as if they just dump old soup into the fresh soup.

The best value and selection in a buffet. Though the management has changed many times in the past few years, the food and service has remained excellent throughout all of these transitions. The salad bar is about 30' long (with two identical sides for when it is busy). They have a few premixed salads at the start of it, then you can build on your plate from there. There are a dozen or so dressings to choose (i recommend the green chile ranch) as well as oils. The hot bar offers 6 soup options with several cracker and other options, as well as a pasta and dessert bars. There are 3 kinds of focaccia that are pretty decent. There's a soft serve frozen yogurt machine that serves two flavors which are changed seasonally and to correspond with themed fruits/flavors that are featured across the entire menu. The table servers bus your plates and act as waitstaff effectively, and many of them have been here for years, which is nice because they are polite and cordial and often go beyond what their job description would seem to entail. TIP ACCORDINGLY. There is also a to-go option where you build your own and take it with you. I highly recommend this restaurant (as well as the west side location) for affordable and nutritious family or individual dining, and check out their Club Veg for email coupons every week.

I'm a huge fan of the sweet tomatoes/souplantation chain but was disappointed by the management of this location. The prepared foods were very infrequently refilled and seemed to have been left out a while. The soups were thick and tasted reduced and not very fresh; the prepared salads bowls were left nearly empty while employees milled around. The pasta sauce (undeniably delicious) was consumed and never refilled. That said, almost all my favorite regular items were still there and tasted good. Probably need to go earlier next time (we didn't make it over until 8 so not sure how early they stop for production) or just go expecting slower service.

Huge salad bar with healthy choices. They also have a large selection of soups and breads. The service is good and the employees are friendly.

Very disappointed today salad ok soups were not what I was use to no chicken noodle, no clam chowder, chili was watered down and the chicken pot pie stew was watered down , pasta had water in it so when you add sauce it is mixed with water , pizza was not good just not same as it use to be for a higher price.

The options at Sweet Tomatoes are great! There is a bountiful salad bar and tons of extras to choose from. Soup, breadsticks, muffins, ice cream, ahh. It is delightful. Plus, every table gets a nifty table indicator so you can be sure to tell your busser not to clear your table, you'll be ripe back or see you next thyme! So cute. 4 stars!

Yes it is about 10 bucks each for soup and salad but this place is 10 times better than Souper Salad. I love this place for the fact that I have MANY toppings to choose from and I did not have to cut and prepare any of them! How much time and money does it take you to buy, clean and cut everything up for great salads at home and a week later you end up throwing 1/2 of it out. This place has great food with many options so I recommend it!

Eh. Salad bars are difficult to pull off because good produce is pricey. The price is high because it's a buffet and the owners are afraid you'll stuff your face and become a KOB headline. Put these two facts togethers and it equals this place. Passing food, decent even, but the variety of salad items is modest and likely to leave you unsatisfied if you've had really good salads elsewhere or have taken the time to make them at home. This place is good for an informal lunch-besides the salad bar there's a few soups on offer and some cheesy bread...biscuits and muffins...and yogurt. Everyone would find something that not bad. I'm actually struggling with this review...salad bars generally, and this one particularly, are not stellar, not anything special... What do you say about a place that offers so many things that don't really stand out or apart? If you want lettuce and some other stuff, good eatin'! If you want a particular flavor or any one thing done really well, keep searching.

Sweet Tomatoes, you are exactly like Souper Salad, except you cost more and your salad dressing sucks.

Fresh and tasty and the soups were delicious. The servers were neither friendly or helpful and they charged an extra $1.25 for a small container of chicken for salad. Dinner was $10 each. Ice-cream and toppings for dessert were okay.

Fresh salad at 9 dollars and change add the extra buck and a quarter for a small container of chicken. Two bucks for a soft drink. Higher priced salad bar, but they also have a nice collection of soups and fresh bread. The desserts were good. The ice cream was ok. The pasta was ok, but it seem overcooked. If you like a good salad, then I would recommend this establishment. If you want something more filling, seek another place.

One of my favorite restaurants, it's my "go to" place if I can't decide. A great, healthy place where you can eat guilt free. Bonus, they give Military Discount of 10%, score! I go there for the chunky chicken noodle soup. Yum!

Another name for what Southern Californians will think of as "Soup Plantation" Great stuff to build your own salad with, or get one of their pre-made salads. Decent selection of soups, breads, and desserts. Nice place, worth checking out.
