Cold pasta, NOT andouille sausage, salad had more old, red lettuce than fresh greens. Lousy

We went here with our friends expecting great pasta and pizza. My husband ordered the Cheeseburger Pizza, and came home with the worst heart burn. My pasta never came out, because they somehow had mistaken my order with a Shrimp Scampi Pizza. After a 40 minute wait for our food, I decided to just keep their mistake and try to enjoy pizza. FAIL. My husband and I are never coming here again.

Atmosphere- great Prices- fab (except for the bread charge- c'mon) Happy hour- none :( Food- ok ok I so wanted to love this place. The menu was drool-worthy and being on my own, I decided to try the Italian sausage with cream sauce pizza. My partner would never have gone for it if she had been with me. The pizza was promptly delivered, looking all gorgeous and wood-burnt. The ingredients looked fab- the cheese, the sausage, and the caramelized onions. The crust looked pretty good too. Unfortunately, with a few bites, I discovered the pizza was bland. I'm serious. There was no taste to it. I restored to using the red pepper shaker (which I seriously never do) to add at least some spice. You know the taste of cheap pizza? This wasn't it... it was just tasteless. I suspect it was due to the cream sauce. I'd come back, only to try the pastas or a tomato-based pizza. And their famous dessert looked enticing but alas, I was by myself. I wasn't about to blow my calories for the day :) So... try it out and see for yourself. Just don't order the cream based pizza.

This was our second (and third) trip to Scarpas. We went three years ago when we were in New Mexico and then we went twice while we were here this time on vacation. The BLT pizza is amazing with great flavor and actually does taste like a BLT. My wife had the salad with the radicchio and oranges. She would get that again!

Chicken Alfredo with green chili sauce. This Illinois boy is in "the land of enchantment".

You can't go too wrong at Scarpas. Their gourmet personal pizzas are wonderful. I am partial to both the Eggplant Parmesan pizza and the Primavera pizza. There's a wonderful salad that's great to split before your pizza arrives, but alas, I cannot remember how it is named on the menu. I am pretty sure that it involves walnuts and blue cheese crumbles--a winning combination in my book--but what makes it is the dressing. Our seasoned, pleasant waiter revealed the recipe to us, but of course I can't remember what he told us. If you're craving dessert, there's only one on the menu. It does, however, get the job done pretty nicely. If you're picky about desserts, though, plan to head elsewhere, or else just pick up some ice cream at Smith's. I love eating there, but last time I was there, a pint of Sierra Nevada was $5. I don't recall it always being so expensive, but maybe I just have selective memory. In any case, there's no reason to charge $5 for a stinking pint. I actually prefer this location over the other location on Montgomery. This one feels a little cozier to me, and for me, that's a big part of the charm of Scarpas. I've never been displeased with the food, though, at either location.

The pasta arragosta and ceasar salad alone make this place deserving of a full five stars. The pizza's very good too, but again, the arragosta alone makes this my go-to place whenever I crave an Italian meal.

Upon entering there is an off-putting scent. It took about 5-10 minutes of us standing in the entry way of the (nearly) empty restaurant before anyone came out from the back of the restuarant to acknowledge us. Ugh...I tried all three soups and none were good (the gave me litte samples--which was nice). The house salad was decent and the Red Chile Cream pasta was pretty good too. I was put off by the smell though....and the dingey bathrooms. I may be back during a busier time because all three of my companions seemed very impressed with their pizzas and the waitress was nice.

We ate out a lot this weekend and we finally had a chance to try Scarpas. Our server Gilbert was awesome, he was knowledgeable about the menu and made some great suggestions. We both ordered a pizza, my husband also had cup of minestrone soup and we shared a half order of the antipasto salad. The salad was very fresh and very good. My husband's soup wasn't as warm as he would have liked but he still said it was good. Our pizzas were very tasty and I could not finish mine. The bathrooms had a bit of an odor, but tolerable. I would go back there for a pizza. It was not the best pizza I ever had, but definitely not the worst. It is more of a 3 star, but I am giving 4 stars because of the awesome service that Gilbert provided to us.

Scarpas is a place that I've been to many times. Each experience I've had has been hit or miss. Sometimes it's the food... Sometimes it's the service. I will say the one thing that has stayed a constant is they have delicious salads. They have a delicious house vinaigrette dressing and the salads are huge!

I love the potato leek soup. I always have. It's incredibly rich and tasty. The spaghetti is bland. It shouldn't be bland. My daughter likes the pizza. Their one and only dessert is the TORTA DI MELE. It's a warm puff pastry apple tart served with java chip ice cream, caramel sauce & whipped cream. It can be delicious but sometimes they burn the puff pastry to varying degrees. Personally I am not in favor of the flavor of burned pastry even if the ice cream and caramel sauce is wonderful. So I come here for the potato leek soup.

We were visiting out of town & heard this restaurant was good. We had salads that were just okay and we had the Pasta Aragosta which is Lobster cream sauce topped with linguini and garlic shrimp. Topped with shaved Asiago cheese for $10.65 Yum! Our waitress was good and we would go back for the pasta. I'm sure the pizzas are good too?

I went to Scarpas with a group of friends. They accommodated a large group well (but maybe because few people were there on a Saturday night). I ordered the wild mushroom pizza, and it was really oily and not very good. I took the leftovers home to eat for lunch the next day and I swear there was a rock in one of the pieces!! I will never eat here again. They have a poor menu and what I ate was bad. What my friends ordered did not look good either. We did have good service, though. There are MUCH better places to get pizza in Albuquerque...skip this one.

This is a better than average Italian eatery. Not family style in atmosphere, but not exactly contemporary either. Their logo looks like it's from the 80s. The service is friendly and the pizzas and salads are generous. This is a fine choice for a real sit-down restaurant, without breaking the bank too much.

Ok, I'm going to tell you a cheat trick. Great place for a date. I love the viccineche (sp). I always get great service and food here. Got to try the pastas and bread.

I think we found our favorite pizza place in abq. We love the thin thin crust, great flavor, reasonable pricing fast service and good ambiance.

We visited the city and once we found this little gem, we went back two days in a row. Their house dressing is phenomenal. The salads are huge. My daughters shared the green chile cheeseburger pizza. They loved it. Even had a slice leftover. The pizzas are big enough to share but not too pricey. I think about $8. Cheaper than an entree at most places. The crust is thin but doesn't have that awful cracker base that mega box pizza shops use. It's flavorful and delish.

The first time I wen there it was really good, but the second the left a bit to be desired. The manager did try to correct things, but I think that things could have been handled better. I would come back, but only for something really casual. I will look elsewhere for a regular place.

I used to really love Scarpas. My favorite thing to eat was the apple dessert which was a puff pastry with thinly sliced apples, caramel sauce, whipped cream and ice cream. It was big enough to serve 3-4 people. I was severely disappointed the last few times I got this dish as there were barely any apples on top and it was half the size of its former self. My favorite pizza used to be the Pizza Primavera with fried eggplant on top. This too has gone downhill. The amount of toppings has been vastly reduced as well as the size of the pizza. With the emergence of some better pizza restaurants in town, Scarpas had better return to its former quality in order to compete or I will not be returning.

Scarpas is my go to restaurant. Love the hot black and blue salad, the red chile pasta, and I have loved all of the pizzas I've tried - also best ranch ever! Always good service and a pleasant experience.

Scarpas offers great options at each stage of a meal... Here's my favorite... Antipasta salad, red Chile cream pasta and dessert. They only have 1 dessert option and only need 1cause its the best!

  • Matt L.

Some great pizza and pasta options. The service here is top notch. The beer menu is too limited and they were out of a bunch of choices. This place is right between 3 and 4 star. I gave 4 because of the service alone.

I've eaten at scarpas a few times now, and every time has been pleasant. I feel like it's a more upscale version of dion's. The food is good (I'm a sucker for pasta...loved the carbonara), the service is alright, the atmosphere is pleasant. The prices are a bit high in my opinion for the quality, however, I've never had a bad experience and thus, if I want tasty food but don't want to risk bad service, I'll come here.

I used to love this place. I'm hoping this was just a bad day... I took my daughter to eat at the Academy Scarpas for lunch. We knew what we were going to order right away. When our drink order arrived the waitress forgot my drink. Then she came back with it 10 minutes later, and finally took our order. I ordered the Insalata de Pollo (grilled chicken salad) and my daughter ordered a half house salad and a pizza. I got my salad at the same time my daughter got her salad. By the time her pizza finally arrived I was done with my salad. I really think the waitress forgot to ask for the pizza! The salad I got was well-dressed and huge (bonus!) but the chicken was so dry and left half of it on my plate. My daughter's pizza was greasy and looked as if it had been sitting out for a long time. The waitress seemed like we were bothering her when we asked for more iced tea. When she gave us more tea, it was warm and had no ice (I hate that!). Like I said before, I'm willing to go again, but not anytime soon!

The thing I like about Scarpas is that they offer a lot in the way of salads. A lot of Italian places are basically pasta and pizza, with some greens on the side. But not Scarpas, they have a lot of salads available, and they also offer gluten free crust for the pizza. So win there. They also have beer and wine specials, which is fun. Nice ambiance. Open, high ceilings, lots of light. Feels kinda cantina-ish. Good service, our waitress was attentive and polite.

Had dinner on a Saturday evening with hubby and a work friend (party of 3). This was my first experience at Scarpas and I will say that I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the southwest chicken salad and could not believe my eyes when our server delivered it. It was ginormous! Romaine, beans, chicken, bell peppers, tortilla and a tasty southwestern ranch dressing. Next time I might ask for the dressing on the side or to go light as it was a little too much for my liking, but still good.

I used to love it here but the last few visits have been incredibly unpleasant. My husband and I went last night and I ordered my usual asparagus soup and half side salad with chicken. Let my start by saying ick. After about 4 bites of soup I started getting bites with what seemed like dirt. Asparagus soup isn't supposed to be crunchy. I made her take it away. But first she brought me a nasty brown lemon for my tea. I couldn't believe it. So I moved on to my salad which tasted as though it had been prepared from the garbage. I will never return to Scarpas. My husband's food was cold as well. This place has gone to heck in a hand basket.

I've been visiting Scarpas for as long as I can remember. LOVE the salads, especially the one with the oak fired chicken breast. My FAVORITE dish is the Red Chili Cream Pasta with chicken breast! Oh how i crave it......... the Garlic, Shallots and Red Chili are such a wonderful combination. I've never had a bad experience and this is a place I visit about once every 4-6 weeks. The pizzas are also great but I am hooked on the salads and pasta.

Scarpas is one of my favorite lunch spots, not only is it dangerously close to my office, it's inexpensive and totally delicious. I order pretty much the same thing every time I go. Creature of habit? I guess so! The antipasti salad is just too magnificent to pass up. Lots of meat, cheese, olives and crisp veggies, I add the sweet and spicy walnuts on top and voila! The full portion is enough to share, especially if you want to indulge on a few slices of Pizza the Greek with chicken. Service can be a little slow at times, but they are always friendly and attentive. Great place for a business lunch or a salad on the go.

My favorite place in ABQ to go for casual dining. The food is always delicious, service is great and consistent, and the dessert (torte di mele) is the best thing I have ever eaten. My family knows I'm easy to please on my bday or mother's day because they just need to take me to Scarpas and order me an Arancia salad, a Pizza the Greek and a dessert and I'm one happy lady.

Oh yeah. I've been away from the delicious mess that is Albuquerque for 4 years. Happened to visit and ended up in Scarpas the first night in town. Oh, yum. yum. yum. As I remembered, the Thai Chicken pizza with carmelized onions, gouda cheese, and Thai spiced pulled chicken was definitely the prize. I convinced my other "almost-vegetarian" friend that we needed to share the Green Chile Cheeseburger Pizza. Being in New Mexico, one must smother green chile over EVERYTHING. It was pretty good, but the Thai Chicken is and will be my all time favorite. Nice to be back ABQ.

Arrived to this location at 830pm and they close at 9pm. Only 1 other table in the place. We were planning to order fast and get out so the employees could head home. Fast service. Stella Artois on tap was a little flat. Cheesy bread app was amazing and the dipping sauce didn't disappoint. No free bread like a lot of Italian food places. Husband ordered a pesto chicken pizza that was good and he really enjoyed it,. I thought the chicken had a weird taste (not a chicken on pizza person.) I ordered the New Orleans Pasta. It was good but the only flavor was the sausage. There had to be a pound of andouille sausage on it! It was ground and not the usual slices of sausage, which was a surprise, but it was really good! All the food came out fast, attentive waitstaff (we were then the only table), and overall good experience. At 9pm a large group showed up and then still waited on them too! Seems like a nice place to eat. Busier during lunch we recall from previous visits but same menu. Only negative I can find, a LOT of there dishes have shrimp, and I'm allergic so it's hard to pick out something for me. I'm sure you can modify anything they make, but it being late, I just went with easy.

This is one of my favorite places to eat in Albuquerque. I am originally from Albuquerque ,but I live out of state for college. My entire family fights over taking me to this place when I come back into town because they know there is nothing that makes me happier than their Ensalada de Pollo salad, Pepperoni Pizza, and their delicious Torte dessert! Seriously, the Ensalada de Pollo is to die and so is the dessert! You have to try both, but make sure you go with a friend and share because their servings are pretty generous. They have a variety of crazy pizza concoctions. So if your ready for some cheeseburger pizzas, caesar salad pizzas, eggplant parmesean pizzas and many more than this is the place for you. I have tried some of their Pastas and they are not as impressive as the pizzas and salads. I don't hate them... I just always wish I ordered my usual Salad and Pizza. They don't really have a happy hour that I know of, but they do have a lunch special where you can get a smaller pizza and a half house salad. I wish they offered the lunch special all the time because it is just enough for one person. I can never make up my mind whether I want a pizza or a salad so I usually over do it and order both. It's crazy if you don't like this place! I've been searching all over my current home in Sacramento, CA for places like Scarpas...haven't found one yet :(

My pizza is always burnt on the bottom at Scarpa's and I don't like that, so this time I ordered pasta and I was much happier. The salad was warmish, so it was just so-so. And the bread they gave us was partly fresh and partly stale. But their torta-something-or-other dessert that they're famous for was AMAZING. Go for the dessert!

  • Ronda B.

Went here with a large group, and the only plus was that they could easily accommodate us. Easily one of the worst meals that I've had in Albuquerque. I ordered the "Pasta Scarpas," which supposedly contained "shrimp scampi with basil, capers, parsley and pesto garlic butter over penne pasta." What I received was a large bowl of overcooked pasta with ten capers and three shrimp. It was absolutely flavorless, with no discernible pesto. I'm not the type of person who sends back food, and since I was with a lot of people I didn't, but this was a joke. Only if you cannot boil water should you bother eating at this place. Even Olive Garden puts this to shame.

Consistently delicious food. Not exactly a good place for a diet, but sometimes you just have to make an exception for Pasta Sorento or any of their wood-fired pizzas. Their caesar salad is also one of the best in town. What really gets me in the door is their Torta de Mele. Best dessert in Abq! There is hardly ever a wait, so a great place when you realize you're starving during peak hours on a Friday or Saturday night. On the quiet side, but okay with kids, almost romantic atmosphere. Friendly, efficient service from the moment your greeted by the hostess. Highly recommended.

Here's proof that reasonably priced Italian fare will go a long way with me. Friendly staff and pizza that won't leave you broke is fine, but the pizzas themselves were nothing too special. The salads, on the other hand, were fantastic!

  • Tommy G.

Subpar. Pizza looked great, but tasted way below average. Pasta was so rich I could not eat it. Service was prompt but lacked simple questions from the wait staff like "how is everything, can I get you anything else, and how about some desert"? Will not be returning, that's for sure.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
