    * Hidden gem in Albuquerque!* I'm disappointed in myself for not writing a sooner review! This has to be me and my husbands favorite place to have lunch and we've been coming here for about a year now. We try to come here at least twice a month and just relax and enjoy ourselves. Its always a must that we start off with their monkey balls for our appetizer (there so delicious) and I also get a nice, cold ,refreshing Thai tea. The staff here is always so gracious and welcoming and practically know our usual lol. Sakura Sushi hands down, is the best sushi in NM! You can taste the love they put into all there food. Its awesome cause they have so many different varieties of foods to choose from and whats even better is that there all equally delicious. Definitely try their Pad Thai and in house Laos Sausage. So do yourself a huge favor and come check this place out for sure =)

In love with this place! Albuquerque roll is perfect. Staff is friendly. Environment is inviting. One of my favorite lunchtime stops! Clean restaurant. Food made fresh to order. I can't say a single negative thing about it! :)

This is our go-to place for sushi! We love this place, great food, delicious sushi, and definitely need to try to homemade dishes on the menu as well. The staff and environment is very warm and welcoming! I would definitely recommend this place! And very affordable as well.

First time trying this place out. Very cozy seeing, small number of seating which is nice. Had the yellow tail, tuna and a phili roll tempura'd. Tuna was of a good consistency, had the typical previously frozen taste issue but still good flavor (it's NM- it's always going to be previously frozen). The owner/chef has awesome rice handling techniques. The roll stayed together perfectly and the nigiri was nice and tight. The tempura was flaky and was not greasy which is awesome. I pride myself on good sushi being from San Diego- not comparing this place to SD- but as compared to the dozens of places I've gone to here: easily in my top 5.

LOVE the Dr. R roll. Fresh tasting and spicy! The monkey balls are also amazing. Second time in. Might be our new favorite place. Can't wait to try more.

I'm new to ABQ, and this was the first place that was recommended to me. Very attentive and personable service. The waiter knew the menu inside- out. - Monkey ball appetizers: unique and tasty tuna balls - Volcano roll: not the best I've had, a bit watery with very small scallops. Good portion - Lao's glass noodle dish: tasty, plenty of shrimp All in all, I'm glad to have dined here. They have sushi with an new mexican flare. Unique and pleasant dining experience. I will definitely be back for a second meal.

The sushi rolls are covered in sauces which results in soggy and heavy sushi. Overall friendly atmosphere.

This place had a great beginning and a sad end. I had the monkey balls for appetizer and they were incredible. So good! Then I ordered some tempura sushi with the house sauce on it and the result: soggy sushi! ... Not good! This house sauce seems to be poured in almost every sushi creation at this place. The sauce itself is good, but they put too much of it. It overpowers the sushi flavor no matter what you get. And if you get a tempura sushi, all the crispiness will be gone. I must say though, that I will give this place a second chance. I'll order sushi with the house sauce on the side and then see what happens.

Service was super nice...the rolls were really good and decent sized...however, the pad-see-ew had a weird taste to and had to return it...otherwise the Japanese and Laotian dishes were good.

What did I just eat? This review is for the sushi. Not the the Thai or Laotian menu items. I dined here after a recent recommendation in the forums. It was close and I was in the mood for some nigiri. First off, this is not a sushi or a Japanese restaurant. However, they do offer sushi-esque items. It is pricey especially the nigiri menu. Two hamachi and two unagi cost $12. The portions were small and the yellow tail was mushy. I like a little firmness with my raw fish. My girlfriend ordered the pork spring rolls. They were decent but every time I put it up to my mouth, it smelled like stinky feet. I even sniffed it to make sure I wasn't picking up a scent from something else. I got the seaweed salad and it had WAY too much fish sauce for my liking. Then the rolls came out. I normally don't order rolls just because they are just some westernized creation with too much sauce and crap and are all about fancy presentations. Since the nigiri was so expensive, I opted to try one. The rice was way too sticky, like they rinsed it too long. Each piece was stuck to the plate. It was very hard to keep everything intact. We had to fight with every single piece. It was ridiculous. Even the water tasted funny. Now the actual facility. It's small and that's fine. Our table was the one next to the kitchen and restroom. I let my girlfriend have the seat facing out and I had my back to the front door. Looking into the kitchen I noticed a plate of food on the floor under a prep table. What or who are they feeding?? Directly in front of me was a wall with a row of light switches. They were very dirty and each switch had a little piece of paper above it taped to the wall with scribbling which I assume is describing the function. Do yourself a favor: spend 10 minutes with a clorox wipe and get a label maker. It's little things like this that I notice that drives me crazy. Perhaps ghetto may be the right description. Now the restroom. As soon as I walked past the curtain and into the hallway I noticed a strong presence of sewer gas. Do yourself another favor and call a plumber or atleast pour some water into the traps of all your floor drains and floor sinks. The mens restroom paper towel dispenser was empty, but apparently this is where they store all of the toilet paper and paper towels. I had to tear a piece off of a roll on the shelf. Not very sanitary. Now to conclude my diatribe. If you have read this you're probably thinking "what a nitpicky jerk". I'm sorry but I have a problem with someone touching and preparing my meal with all these deficiencies in their eating establishment especially after spending $60. A divey place that serves sushi should not exist.

I've gone here a couple times since my move to Albuquerque in the late spring of 2013. Every time I go, I'm greeted by fantastic service and the sushi is amazing! Their monkey balls are really good and have a nice kick to them. Their tuna rolls and salmon rolls are fresh & tasty. Our favorites chef specialty rolls are the "Rock n Roll," "Sakura Roll," and the "Rainbow Roll." But I highly recommend the Sakura Roll, its a personal favorite!! This is a small little place, quaint and got a nice vibe to it... Try it out, I sincerely doubt you'll be disappointed!

The service and the food were outstanding! The tempura sauce was different. I prefer the original sauce versus with ginger mixed. Probably just me.

This family restaurant serves food from Japan, Thailand, and Laos. There's the usual sushi, pad thai, and gyoza offerings but the real deal is the Lao cuisine. You absolutely must try the homemade spicy pork sausage. Service is great. Atmosphere is homey and relaxed. And it's affordable in even the current economy.

This restaurant is like a jack-of-all-trades. They have sushi(Japanese), Laotian, and Thai. I enjoy the Monkey Balls, which are mushroom stuffed crabs, they are delicious. I haven't tried any of the other appetizers, although the ceviche salad and squid salad are delicious too. I am always in the mood for sushi, my favorites are the New Yorker roll(not on the menu, you will have to ask), Lady in Red, Paul's Roll, and the Spicy Tuna. The one time I ordered the salmon bento box, it was great but I think they specialize in the sushi more. Friendly and spot on service, clean atmosphere, and a lot of food.

This is absolutely one of my favorite sushi restaurants in Albuquerque! I have been here so many times, I can't even begin to count. The food is always awesome, the service is always excellent, and I always leave happy! I personally love the crazy roll, the Albuquerque roll, and of course the tried and true California roll. Great Sushi restaurant.

My son and I tried this place today after hitting up THREE familiar Asian Fusion joints that were closed, despite having hours posted as open on Yelp. Positive Yelp reviews led us to a part of town we would otherwise never frequent, and for that I thank you, Oh Great Circle-Jerk In The Sky. The green chile-cheese egg rolls were in and of themselves worthy of five stars, but that was only the beginning. The same incredibly competent person who took our order, and then delivered our drinks and perfectly prepared Vegetable Tempura along with aforementioned incredibly delicious egg rolls, hastily proceeded to the sushi counter to create our delectable rolls, which she then delivered. And we were not the only table. And my water glass never went empty. Are you fucking kidding me? This astounding work ethic explains why Asian-Americans are now the best-educated, highest-earning, and fastest-growing racial group in this country. The food was absolutely fresh and tasty, the service was excellent, and they accomplished with two people what would take at least 9 employees of the Olive Garden to pull off. Excellent.

This was a disappointing experience. The restaurant is small and cute. The service was good but the food was not what I expected. We went for Sushi but didn't quite get what we wanted. We started with the monkey ball appetizer which was the best thing that we tried. We ordered two of the specialty rolls which are first seemed good but they had way too much stuff and way too much sauce. The problem with so much sauce is that it makes everything mushy and gross. One of the rolls had tempura but by the second piece, it was completely soft and not crispy at all. The restaurant also has Thai and Laos food. To me, this is always a bad sign. How can a restaurant have three different types of food with an extensive menu and do everything well and make everything fresh. The service was good but once the restaurant got busy it was hard to get the one waitress's attention. I might go back to try things again but I would definitely avoid the specialty rolls.

Saw good reviews so bought their deal on Restaurant.com and went - only to find a note on the door saying they would NOT honor restaurant.com . Gal inside offered no explanation so we left. maybe they are closing.

Finally, Albuquerque has a japanese restaurant with an actual real cook from Asia..actually she's Korean, and an excellent chef. Try the orange blossom made with fresh halibut that is lightly grilled and served tempura style in a roll. Amazing. The fried rice is some of the best in the city, my teenage boys love this place. If your foodie family fights over where to eat dinner, this is one we can all agree on!

This restaurant serves Laotian, Thai, and Japanese food. We were in the mood for Japanese, so for the two adults we ordered Monkey Balls (appetizer), Oysters Dynamite (daily special appetizer), and a chirashi (assorted sashimi on a bed of sushi rice) to share. For the kids we ordered 2 teriyaki bento boxes, one chicken and one salmon. Unfortunately both the appetizers have the problem that many Japanese restaurants do nowadays, that of overloading the dish with a mayonnaise/teriyaki/srirachi sauce. I would have enjoyed the Monkey Balls (chopped spicy tuna stuffed into mushrooms and tempura-fried) and the oysters a lot more if I could have tasted the primary ingredients instead of just the sauce. The chirashi bowl was decent but nothing spectacular. The fish was adequately fresh except for the white tuna which tasted just slightly off. However the underlying bed of shredded daikon and rice was again laced with the ubiquitous mayonnaise-based sauce; very annoying. The bento boxes came with the featured meat served on a bed of stir-fried bean sprouts and sliced onion, and sides of seaweed salad, mixed-greens salad, half an orange, 4 pieces of California roll, and steamed rice. The California rolls were nice and fresh, the mixed greens were a lovely change from the usual iceberg, and the seaweed salad yummy. The portion of chicken was huge but lacking the necessary browned/charred taste and appearance. It looked more like it was sauteed in a pan on medium heat instead of broiled or barbecued. The highlight of our meal was dessert. We ordered the sweet sticky coconut rice with mango. This dish is seasonal because they only use fresh mango (never bottled), and good fresh mango is only available during the warmer months of the year. Oh, man. This was gutteral-moaning-in-your-throat good. We were already pretty full, so the portion was large enough for the four of us to share. Service was efficient and friendly. The interior is clean and pleasant, and the bathrooms are clean. I did find it a bit odd that the women's room had what looked like 50 rolls of toilet paper piled up on the corner table, not in a box or anything, just out. But I suppose it beats running out. One serious gripe: turn off the television! When I'm out for a nice dinner, I do not want tacky Asian soap operas and episodes of Survivor to distract me (or more importantly, my kids; they couldn't tear their eyes off the screen and barely tasted their food). We didn't get a chance to try their Laotian or Thai food, but we wouldn't recommend their Japanese food. It's adequate, but at these prices I expect better. However, I'm betting that spouse and I will make special trips back just for their sticky rice with mango dessert.

Sakura Sushi is one of the best sushi places in Albuquerque! I almost always order water with my meals, but I never miss the chance to have their Thai tea (which is deliciously sweet with an attractive orange color). Each meal is pre-empted by a bowl of miso soup, which can sate ones hunger until the sushi comes out. My husband and I are crazy for the Yummy-Yummy and the Catepillar roll! When we first visited, we made the mistake of ordering 5 sushi rolls (4 specialty, one regular), under the assumption that the rolls sizes will be small like other places we've visited. We barely finished 2 of those 5. The sushi rolls are very generously sized, so unless you have a blackhole for a stomach, 2 rolls are more than enough for a party of 2.

On the recommendation of a co-worker, my wife and I finally checked out Sakura Sushi a couple weeks back. We had just finished an intense workout session, and were still in our grubby gym clothes, but figured some lite sushi would hit the spot. Despite our less-than-formal attire, the waitstaff greeted us and made us feel right at home. An hour later, we were happy and satisfied, and eager to return (which we did a few days later, in much nicer clothes!). The sushi was delicious and fresh (despite being late in the day), and the prices are more than reasonable. In particular, the "Monkey Balls" are a real treat - crispy fried dumplings with cream-cheese and mushroom filling, and the ever-so-simple Avocado rolls are wonderfully refreshing. Finally, the Pad Thai was perfect - a large portion (enough for two), with just the right mix of noodles and flavors, though it was a bit light on the peanuts. It's also worth mentioning that the sushi chef clearly views his creations as a treat for the eyes as well as the taste-buds. Each roll is beautifully presented, with elegant layouts and gorgeous use of colors and textures. All-in-all, Sakura is clearly one of the best options for Asian and sushi in Albuquerque, and should be high on the list of places to visit whenever the sushi-munchies strike.

I LOVE THIS PLACE!! I used to go here all the time, they have authentic Laos papaya salad!! How cool, the sushi rolls are amazing, huge fresh Sooo sooo tasty! The service is always great, the prices are reasonable, and they always give you more food than you think you deserve. I cannot say enough good things about this place. You will not regret eating here

$60 on that??! I realized we were splurging a bit getting 2 specialty rolls and a Thai dish, but we were really excited about this place after reading the glowing reviews. The rolls ARE huge, yes. But they weren't put together well, we could barely pick them up and they had a muddy quality. I like sushi for it's clean taste. I'm not even sure about the freshness. As for the Thai dish, it was so salty I couldn't even eat it. I'm normally a bit free with the salt, but this was just seafood soaked in a bottle of soy. We're here visiting from Wisconsin and we had one night reserved for a good sushi meal and I could kick myself for picking Sakura. The waitress packaged up our leftovers and gave us fortune cookies. Mine read "All advice has worth, some bad some good." Just be wary of all the reviews. If you still want to try this place, order one roll, then decide if you want to proceed. We dumped our to go boxes in the hotel lobby garbage. Diner Beware...

Sakura Sushi is a great little family-run restaurant that serves a variety of Asian offerings. Most of their menu consists of Japanese and Thai dishes, but there are also some Laotian (and one or two Vietnamese) choices, too. The portions are generous (particularly with the sushi and soups), the family is super friendly, and the flavors are great. Not every dish is a home run, but my personal favorites include the udon soup, sushi, and monkey balls (an appetizer consisting of tempura fried mushrooms stuffed with spicy tuna, topped with a sweet, hot mayo, on a bed of...daikon, maybe?). Definitely check them out!

We LOVE Sakura. Their "Lady in Red" roll is our absolute favorite sushi roll of all time - and we have traveled to Japan! This is actually the closest we have gotten to Japanese sushi back in the U.S. They also have excellent Thai food - try the red curry! - and I love their fried rice also. And, you MUST try their green chile tempura. It is so awesome, and once you taste it, you think "why hasn't anyone thought of doing this before?" This is definitely the best Sushi place in the Wyoming/Montgomery area and one of the best in Albuquerque.

Ordered Lao style larb (chicken salad) I think it was made with lime juice from a bottle... No sticky rice in a Lao restaurant? Larb and no sticky rice? Seriously? Brought one dish out, the others came later. Forgot to bring napkins. Never refilled water Nice waitress but totally scatterbrained Manager/owner with $hitty attitude when questioned about the shady bill. How old was the salmon? Frozen? How could you feed my poor hard working mom that?! Sushi--no wasabi given? Are you kidding? We're brown--we love spicy!! My poor parents. The worst ever. Never again.

This was one of the best places I've been for a restaurant that has a large variety of options, from sushi, to Japanese, Thai, and Vietnamese dishes. The service was very good, waiter was very nice, attentive, and helpful, and the atmosphere was very nice as well. Decorated quaintly and dimly lit, it was a relaxing place to have dinner. I had the Japanese curry, the presentation was beautiful, and the taste was also delicious. The curry was sweet yet savory, with potatoes, chicken, carrots, and celery. Also served with steamed rice, and like other reviewers say, miso soup (which comes prior to the meal). I had the green tea which was okay, but not the best. The prices were reasonable, and overall the food and service made me rate the place 5 stars, and I look forward to going back soon to try more!

Don't go here, I like it just as it is, a little quiet, a little homey. Also, probably the best yum nueh in town.

I love this place, for many reasons. They have great and friendly service, orange soda (for my baby nugget), and they make the most fantistical roll in the world, "MY ROLL"! It is cucumber and yellowtail inside, with snapper, paper thin slices of lime, sriracha, and ponzu sauce. It is not on the menu, but my (with some from the chef) tastes in mind, it was born. I also love the different soups that they have and the Laos beef jerky, and the drunken noodles are the SHIZ! Next time you go, ask for "MY ROLL" and be amazed

This is by far the best sushi I have ever had!!! I love this place so much and would eat here everyday if possible. The service is friendly and the atmosphere is great. I hope that this place continues to stay in abq for a long time! I will not eat sushi from any other place in Albuquerque but here.!
