Perfectly located in the ABQ airport with access to both terminals and the rarely used 2nd story observation deck. The Rio Grande Brew Pub offers good service, good food and very good beer selection. Service: Friendly, polite but wait staff were a little slow so you might want to ask for the check early. Food: I decided on The New Mexico Philly, which consisted of Roast Beef with Green Chile, Onions and Peppers served up on French Roll covered in Swiss and a side of Au Jus Dip. It was good, especially for airport food but needed more Green Chile and spice for me. That and the Green Chile Cheese Burger are safe bets. Cleanliness: One of the cleaner airport restaurants. The floors were clean and the tables freshly wiped down. Overall: Good choice and if the wait staff get a little quicker with checking in the tables and getting the check then it might go to 4 Stars for me (in relation to airport food) but for now it's 3.

Our flight was delayed so we came here. The service was great (waitress: Margarit ) and quick. We ordered the wings, green chile cheese fries, and the taquitos. Wings were great, fries were ok, taquitos were not so good (do not recommend the taquitos). I don't drink but my family got some beers which they enjoyed. If you want good service and decent food I recommend stopping by.

Good beer. Friendly staff. Fast service. And handy little drink-chillers right on the bar that keep your drinks cold. Stopped by during a layover and was not disappointed. If I am ever in the area again I will definitely return.

Have been here a few times during my travels. The staff is friendly and the food is great! Highly recommend the Rio Grande Cheeseburger!

Not impressed...do not be enticed by chicken and waffles. Chicken is 75% breaded and probably frozen tyson tenders. Coffee is disgraceful and server, Margarita was a ditz. Asked her several times how large portions were and she just proceeded to take my order. Emphasized that I wanted my son's burger VERY WELL DONE and she brought it medium rare...most likely because she never specified it. This was below even airport standards.

Over priced, mediocre food. Lots of beer taps but all expensive , even for an airport.

I ordered the Ribeye and was very surprised. The entire meal was very well prepared the staff was very friendly and the price was fair.

Stopped in for a quick pint while waiting on my flight and was not disappointed. They have a great selection on tap beers... The buffalo wings were real good, but the Green Chile Cheese fries are amazing! I sat at the bar and service was great, and I love the metal glass chiller!! Kept my beer nice and chilly!

This place looks better from the outside...it's your typical overpriced airport food. The steak was very meh and the onion rings were of the frozen variety but Hector at the bar was awesome - so nice and attentive and the chef salad was very good. I'd recommend stopping here for a few drinks and to watch one of the big TV's at the bar but for food that's probably similar quality just save your money and hit up one of the fast food joints. I'm giving it that 3rd star because service was so great.

  • Mike O.

Enormous place, and they serve lots of food. I ordered a salad, and it was Texas-sized. Downside: there are only a few tables with outlet access, which is better than zero. But there are a few.

Fly heavy baby. Ok, so you want to toy with explosives with no way out? A mega sized burger with green chili and cheese, fat fries or onion rings and a heavy beer before a cross country flight is a veritable Russian roulette with your irritable bowl syndrome. When you are jammed up against the window with two pro wrestlers blocking the isle and you feel a bubbling cauldron of intestinal distress growl like a hyena on the African plain.... you rolled the dice, time to pay the piper home boy. The food is actually pretty good here but keep in mind you are past TSA and near your departure gate. 99% of patrons are waiting to board a flight there at the Albuquerque Sunport. So....with that said, if you are the gambling type, this might be your deal. Bottom line: Years of fast food abuse have trained you for this moment. Why not?

  • Cari S.

Do not order the old fashioned.... it is oink and tastes cheap and horrible. .. maybe... MAYBE.... something I would buy at a 2 dollar well night. The pineapple upside down cakw drink also was pink.... way too sweet.

  • Laura G.

Great service and tasty food. My only complaint is that my veggie burger was cold yet still flavorful. The prices are reasonable for an airport. I didn't feel gouged and left full.

  • Connie D.

We waited to get waited on, then for a long time for food. My food was cold and never got toast, even after reminding waitress. Still paid full price.

Stopped here for lunch waiting on a delayed flight. We both ordered a burger and I had a glass of Cabernet, hubby a beer. In fact, this is the best burger I have had in a very long time, I don't eat the bun so always throw the server off a bit, but it came with all the trimmings it should have done. They have metal place disks on the bar to keep your drink cold, a very cool concept. Staff very friendly and reasonably priced. We we're surprised how tasty it was considering the location. Would definitely eat here again.

Usually when you're in an airport the captive audience factor kicks in. The food sucks over priced and you just want to leave. Will give it up for this spot. Burger was delicious and the beer which they brew is very good. Had the Desert Pilsner. Will stop back the next time I fly here.

This airport lounge style restaurant is large, and has some inspired staff (thanks Fernando). The food seems about average based on my soup experiment and what I saw coming out. My soup was quite salty, but it definitely "ate". I think the bar is probably a highlight here based on the nice variety of taps I saw, and clean tap lines, based on how tasty my Guinness Blonde Lager was. A-OK for sure.

  • Solomon B.

Beyond mediocre; our "fried" eggs were clearly made in a microwave or "fried" in water such that they were both bland and watery. The potatoes were lukewarm or cold upon arrival. The bacon was overly crisp (but some people like that). The coffee was basically black water with no flavor. Don't bother stopping here, just walk down to A5 for Black Mesa. For the same $9 you can get a delicious green chile quiche like we did after visiting this place ;)

While there's not an abundance of dining options at the Sunport, Rio Grande Brew Pub and Grill is a nice little place to park yourself and chill before a flight. RGBPG has become a reliable standby for me the past year of business travel to Albuquerque. Mostly for a glass of wine or beer, but I did try some of their food on one occasion. The Rio Grande Chicken Sandwich was really nothing to write home about. It was topped with some tasteless Green Chile. At the same time, anything after having my tastebuds domerocked at Cocina Azul the night before was bound to be mediocre. The bun on this thing was massive, so I pretty much just ate the chicken as I already had plans to drink some bread! :) Service is just OK. I've had servers not refill my water; some completely forget to even bring me one. This joint gets the job done but leave your expectations at the door ... You're at the airport, after all!

  • Ted D.

Good place for a local brew. Food is decent and quick. Large bar ensures you always get a seat. I like that they coolers plates for your drinks so always stay cold.

  • Chad N.

Airport Bar !!! Expect high prices (a shot of Fireball - $9!!). We had sliders and onion rings - both were okay - typical airport food. The service was okay - what you would expect in this type of place. There were plenty of TV's to watch games while you wait on your flight.

  • Garett T.

All I need to make mention of is their Rio Grande Pancho Verde Chile Cerveza beer on tap. Tasted surprisingly authentic to green chiles but not blindingly spicy such that one cannot even handle a sip, it is eloquently assembled for both the hardcore fans of New Mexico flavorings and for those desiring unique sips to pass the time at the airport. Get it in a beer flight and try a sampling of others, too, but this was my favorite -- an awesome, vivid concoction for certain!

Good steaks at an airport? Say what? Yup, I'm one of those nonbelievers too until I had Rio Grande Grill's 7 oz steak and eggs. Who would have thought? You can't miss this restaurant if you're inside Albuquerque International Sunport. Once you get through TSA, it's right smack in the middle. Rio Grande is not a large restaurant/bar, but it's ABQ Airport's biggest restaurant. The selections on their menu is basic (ie. steaks, chicken, burgers, and sandwiches), service is average at best, ambiance is rather quiet for a restaurant/bar, and their food is surprisingly good. Prices won't set you back either. Overall, I think Rio Grande Grill is pretty good for a restaurant in an airport. 7 oz Steak w/Scrambled Egg Whites: I had my steak medium even though I usually have it medium-well. I only did this because I overheard another traveler comment that their steak was overcooked. Armed with this knowledge, I got a steak that was packed with flavor, tender, and juicy. You usually get what you pay for in a $15 steak. I got more and was very pleased. Rio Grande Chicken and Steak Fries: I had this on my 2nd visit to Rio Grande Grill. I really wanted their steak, but it was Lent and I gave up red meat. So, chicken it is. I still thought that this meal was satisfying, but it doesn't compare to their steak. Besides, all I eat daily is chicken. Blah, blah, blah. Like I stated earlier, service is just average. In all of the three times I've eaten here, I either had to wait to be served, seated, or get my bill. If you can get passed the slow service or have a lot of time between flights, then you'll like it here.

This is the "fanciest" restaurant in the Sunport airport. It is at best an average restaurant/bar. Have been here 3-4 times and the food is always average. Its filling, and tastes ok. It really is your only option if you want a sit down meal with service. The bar area is cool, with local micros on tap. Expect to pay airport prices.

    (3)
  • Dave D.

Typical airport bar. It's nice to have one in the Sunport that serves local beers though. I had the Nut Brown ale in a 20 oz tumbler for $7.95. Pretty expensive for a beer, but it IS at an airport, still... I didn't try any of the food, sorry I'm no help there.

    (3)
  • Chris T.

All in all this place can be known as acceptable. The service was decent-moves fast to get me fed and on my plane. The offered local beers which was nice. Food was ok-not great but ok. I had the chicken sandwich which was ok-bun disintegrated when I ate it which was messy and fries were good. All in all not good but not bad either-just acceptable for airport fare

  • Mark W.

Waited 45 minutes for my food. Saw people that came after me get their food. Three tables! Had to cancel my order to catch my flight. Waitress said they got swamped. Why did others that came after me get theirs.

Just can't get over the three star hump on this one. I'm leaning, I'm teetering, seeing four just over the cliff, but nope, I'm not taking that leap. You have to give airport shops a break from the usual criticism, right? They have an entirely different set of rules to deal with. The food needs to get out mighty quick and the clientele isn't there for a conversation, they just want to get this whole travel thing over with. Along those lines, RGBPG does a fine job, so by all means go there to get this whole travel thing over with. No, my nostrils actually lift to the sky due to pure New Mexican pride. Before I go any further, here, one question: what the hell are you doing in Albuquerque? Here's a hint: people don't just come to New Mexico. Nobody actually lives or works here. It's all a sham, man, we just pretend to exist here. It's a touristy sham. Go check out our "cities", like Santa Fe and Taos and Las Cruces, if you look really close you'll see that it's all a Hollywood set, created to get you to drop some cash. After that, we run off to our beachfront properties in Baja. Seriously, who could live in a place that doesn't have any WATER? But while you're here, get out of the terminal and check out our "breweries". For some reason, the set designers took especially good care in crafting places that actually pour some of the country's finest brews. Amazing, honestly, that this happened. And lord, it must be really costly to import all that water. For some reason, we just couldn't pull the same thing off at RGBPG.

OMG, had just a half hour before my flight boarded, so I inquired, "Can I get a drink and something to eat in that time?" "Of Course." (Ya right, (under my breath)). This place is loaded with craft beer options and a pretty diverse menu...but time wasn't on my side. I ordered the Club Sandwich and a local IPA. It seemed like before I could unwrap my set up and put my napkin on my lap (yeah, who knew I had manners), my frosty cold brew was in front of me. Then the lights went out..or maybe it was a total eclipse...because it got dark in a hurry. As it turns out, it was just my club sandwich being delivered! This thing was so massive and piled thick with meats, it cast a shadow on everything as my server passed by. Oh no..the food and beer were indeed delivered, as promised, in record time...but how could I power through such a huge Club in a mere 25 minutes, while trying to enjoy the savory flavor of my local IPA? (punches himself in the arm), I did it...while enjoying the meal and refreshed craft.

Alien Amber beer was fantastic. Imperial stout was really clean and crisp. Wings were pretty good, but small amount for price. Small amount of selections on menu and appears way overpriced. 2 pints and wings was $30.

    (3)
  • Ricky M.

So when this place first opened up they offered a way better local craft beer selection and also had the frozen beer chillers on max cold and the prices on there pints were reasonable. Now not only did they up there prices to 8 bucks a beer they also turned down the coldness on there beer chillers and the service also really lacks here. Every time I come to the sunport which is very frequent I stop here and have a beer before hoping on my plane and every time this place just seems to get worse.

The food is good, nice area to relax while waiting for a flight at the ABQ airport, and if Tommy is your server it's an added bonus. It's rare to see a server truly enjoy his job so much!! Go Tommy! Thank you!

Bad training leads to a bad experience. We stopped here for a bite before our flight home. The first table had gunk on it from a drink the night before. They were also kind enough to leave me a bobby pin next to my utensils. Disgusting. After moving to a new table, I ordered the country breakfast with eggs over well, rye toast, bacon, and coffee. The wife ordered an omelet with cheese. The wait person said the omelet was a buffet breakfast, and walked away to get our coffee. The wife went to the buffet, which was obviously closed. "No buffet on Sunday" as it turned out. So she ordered the country breakfast with scrambled eggs when the wait person came back. What we eventually got were runny eggs, no bacon, and white toast with no butter. "No rye on Sunday" either, I guess. Also, no refills on the coffee (a $5 treat). The price for this bad experience? More than $30. And there was no manager there to discuss it with. Overall, I'd think twice before eating here.

Let's just all acknowledge right now that this place doesn't represent the best of New Mexican beers. In a more just world, you'd have a bar in this exact location serving Marble Brewery, La Cumbre Brewing, and Il Vicino beers. Instead of one of Albuquerque's great breweries, we've got these clearly business-savvy, semi-local brewers with their gimmicky-named beers to choose from, as well as some liquor offerings and other standardly-boring beers like Stella. But, I discovered after having a flight that the beers aren't that bad, they're just can't hold a candle to New Mexico's best. I won't go into great detail about every beer, but I will say that with each beer I found a similar trend: all the makings of a good beer, yet a bit watered down. The Rio Grande/Sierra Blanca brewing folks seem to be taking a page from the Sam Adams playbook by brewing mild, timid beers that won't offend the light-beer drinker. These beers are like the elementary school of beer. They're a first step. I didn't try the food because nothing looked or sounded good, but the beers made a decent breakfast (as I had an early morning flight). I'll tell you what though, I'd rather spend $10 bucks or so on a flight of beers here than half that for some coffee at somewhere else within the airport. One will have you wide awake on your flight, the other will put you right out from the moment you take your seat on the plane. Which do you prefer?

    (3)
  • Lucky C.

DO NOT order the "brisket sandwich" !!! It is more like bad sloppy joe, the meat was not brisket!!! I asked the waiter before i ordered, he "assured" it is a good sandwich. For $15, i expected a hearty sandwich, instead it was a giant bun with a few chopped up skinny pieces of fat and looked like bacon meat? I had to send it back to the kitchen ( which i almost never did in my entire life) and ordered something else on the menu. If other restaurant were not closing early, i would never eat here.

    (1)
  • Ashley K.

I will admit that I was only in Albuquerque for just a few short hours, but MAN, this place is good. I ordered the black bean burger with pepper jack cheese and I've never had a better black bean burger!! I almost ordered another one even though I wasn't hungry. I tried a beer flight, which featured the chili flavored pale ale. That was interesting! Overall, the beers were just "so so", but it IS an airport so you're lucky to find craft brews. They have a cooling "coaster" for your drinks, which I though was pretty nifty. The other bar patrons seemed to agree. I will definitely visit again if I'm ever waiting on a transfer flight here again.

    (4)
  • Jesy B.

Smeh. When you're stuck in an airport and waiting for awhile for your transfer, the options are limited. The other bar/grill had a wait and I was bent on maxing out my drink to wait ratio. No wait here. Service was prompt though the beer selection was no good for a PDX resident. Maybe it's some kooky CO law, but no. Super light beers whether on tap or bottle. I had the chili burger and it was okay. I wasn't like OMG this is the best, but I wasn't regretting my choice either so A-OK on that. Back to service - at times my server poofed like a fairy and wasn't visible at all. Other times he was like HEY YOU NEED SOMETHING. Shmeh again. I have a hard time complaining because clearly they have a captive audience & you can charge whatever so.....why try so hard? If I got stuck here, I'd probably try the other place first.

  • Melissa Whittington B.

Ate chicken wings before my flight and was sick the entire 4 hour flight. Only ate one wing because as soon as I bit into it, I knew something was off.

    (1)
  • Morgan M.

A joint like this is something I would expect in San Diego, just without the "ranch" theme. Tons of craft beer from the local breweries (I'm quite fond of Santa Fe Nut Brown and the Alien Amber so far) PLUS you can do a "choose-your-own-adventure" type flight--and it's dirt cheap. They also pour in proper, 20 oz pint glasses, too. As if that wasn't enough, they do whiskey flights as well. I wasn't going to be there long enough to try, but should the opportunity present itself in the future, I'll take part. We didn't eat, but the food that was delivered around us looked pretty good. Also, big kudos to these folks for hiring a special needs individual as their hostess. I applaud your thoughtfulness (law requirement or no).

    (4)
  • Megan H.

Opted to grab dinner before my flight - service was good, seated quickly. I ordered the chili beer which was good but certainly not over the top with flavor. I also ordered the Harvest Salad with Chicken. The raspberry vinaigrette was good, but the chicken was fatty. Stopped eating after that discovery.

    (2)
  • Anna S.

Ok so they have legit green chile beer but I CAN NOT forgive the fact that tonight the wouldn't change one of their FIVE TVs showing the SAME NFL game to ESPN so I could watch the MLS Western Conference Final. Manager or whoever I talked to didn't even try. I could have complained more but with the failure to even attempt at my first ask there's no way I was giving them any business tonight. Terrible.

    (1)
  • Brent F.

Went to this restaurant to get lunch before a flight, but the older gentleman that was behind the host's desk was extremely offensive to my wife, began flirting with her, and was way over the line of sexual harassment. He appeared drunk as well. We decided to leave. If I were you I'd steer clear of this place!

    (1)
  • Vinnie K.

After a poor attempt at a previous bar, my colleague and I tried this due to the local craft beer selection. I got the Alien Imperial Stout and my buddy got the Rio Grande IPA. The stout was very smooth and slightly warm bodied. The IPA was well balanced, and refreshing. I got the club which was like every other club I've had. My buddy got the New Mexico Philly cheese steak that was Amazing!!! Spicy, flavorful, juicy! I would have stayed but my plane was waiting for me to fly it ; )

    (4)
  • Richard F.

Waiting for our flight with a couple of hours to kill we decided a pint and a burger would be good. I ordered an IPA ant the Rio Grande cheeseburger. It was a righteous burger 1/2 pound, prepared perfectly medium rare, loaded with cheese, a fried green Chile with a side of onion rings. It was 11 bucks and worth it. The pint was good as well. If your in ABQ for for it!

    (5)
  • Jeanne Z.

I got a sampler! The green chili cervesa is my favorite! The food was ok, and slighly overpriced. But, good for airport fare.

    (3)
  • Martin D.

As a regular bar goer and pub grub afficionado, I like to believe I've seen it all. That is until I found myself at the ABQ airport in New Mexico. If you sit at the bar you'll notice a contraption that looks like a silver coaster. It is, but it gets better. This "doo-dad" keeps your beer frosty cold while you eat. Genius and worth mentioning. For airport food, I have to say, not bad. I had the salmon plate. Burgers looked good.

    (4)
  • Jim T.

Great green chile Philly Cheesesteak! Real good food also seved in an airport.

    (5)
  • Pam B.

Wonderful experience. My husband's burger was perfectly cooked. The selection of beer was great, and the Pinot Grigio was nicely chilled. But what really excelled was the impeccable service. Every member of the staff was courteous and welcoming. We would especially like to commend our server Regina, who was especially courteous and accommodating and the hostess Marguerita (I hope I spelled her name correctly). It was her very first day, and she was delightful.

    great burgers and food

Great Stout and they have chill discs to keep your beer super chil.

  • Kevin L.

My flight is delayed so l have to find a cozy spot to kill some time. This brewery is perfect. In the middle between concourse A and B, it offers a variety of selection of draft beers. I got the Alien Amber Ale this time. The New Mexico Philly is awesome! The bar area has plenty of seats. If you are a solo traveler on a business trip, check this place out.

  • Mike S.

Quick restaurant service at an airport. Tasty food and beverages.

    (3)
  • Hidbigo S.

Ok for beer. But avoid the leathery beef brisket sandwich. There is more bread than meat and the meat is tasteless.

    (2)
  • Wes T.

For all the mushy non-love that this place seems to be getting from Albuquerque's numerous (and apparently well-traveled) beer snobs, I would posit that would you rather have no access to any craft beer? Be stuck with nothing but Budweiser and Stella at a run-of-the-mill sports bar? No, thank you. I'll take Rio Grande, in fact, I will embrace them. The beer snob in me (yes, there is one) does acknowledge that these brews are sub-par compared to a lot of other local micro-brews. That being said, they give you some variety, and I'll take that. One small step for craft brews, one giant leap for travelers in the Sunport.

    (4)
  • Daniel G.

Green chile chicken soup. Made from scratch downstairs, it's awesome. Great beer selection too.

    (5)
  • Brian B.

Pretty standard airport bar& grill. I had the chicken sandwich and onion rings. Chicken wasn't overcooked, which is a huge plus and the rings were good. Staff was friendly and attentive as well.

    (4)
  • Corey H.

Mmmmmm if your passing through the airport you should stop here. They have a huge bar with tons of beers on tap including some local brews. Order they Green Chili Cheese Fries with extra green chili. SO GOOD! Service does kinda suck. Ive been here a few times and its never that fast or reliable but I honestly don't expect too much from an airport bar.
