Diabetics at Pizza Hut

Pizza is neither a great meal nor the worst for diabetes. All you need is some fact check and monitoring while ordering your pizza. Diabetics can opt for thin crust or skinny pizza at Pizza Hut and avoid the cheese topping to cut down on the excess fat and sodium. If you have diabetes, then ensure to check your portion size when you order a pizza. One or max. two slices are enough. You can also avoid meat if possible and go for wings as a meat option.

Foods to Avoid at Pizza Hut for Diabetics:

You must avoid Meat Lovers Pizza with Original Pan Crust as it contains over 1000mg sodium and will add 470 calories in your meal. You should also skip Super Supreme Pizza Large Original Pan Slice which is too high in sodium and fat. Chicken wings are often tempting but you must control and restrict yourself from ordering Traditional Honey BBQ Bone-in Wings as it can add up to your sugar levels if you eat too many. On average, a person orders or consumes six chicken wings pieces in a day.

Sides must be avoided at all costs especially if it's Bacon Cheddar Fries with Ranch Dipping Cup for its high sodium content. You must also avoid New York Style Cheesecake with Applesauce as dessert as one slice of this dessert item contains 86g sugar. Pizza Hut also offers other Italian dishes such as Pasta. However, you must skip Spaghetti with Meat Sauce and Meatballs and Garlic Bread as it is too high in sodium and sugar.

I have been going to Pizza Castle for 20 years. Eeegads! Yes, it was a high school hangout for me, but the crazy thing is that the pizza is so delicious that I never outgrew it. Add to that the fact that this restaurant is one-family owned and operated, from mom to son, and who knows, maybe grandkids in ten years. Excellent NY pizza from NY originated family. The subs are great too, and very reasonably priced compared to chains, and much better tasting. Salads are just average but for only $1.25, great! There is a reason that many other restaurants in this strip have come and gone but this one remains.

Wow. I love their pizza. This place was recommended to me by a New Yorker. We ordered to go and ate the leftovers for a few days afterwards and they were amazing every time. This is the best pizza we've had in Albuquerque thus far and we've tried quite a few places over the year we've been here.

  • Ione F.

The pizza is awesome. This hole in the wall in a small strip mall is authentic NY-style hand-tossed thin crust pizza. My husband and daughter each ate a whole pizza by themselves the last time we went. It is really that good. And consistent. I understand the owners brought their family recipes from NY. It rocks!

I was looking for some pizza and found this little place. Even though it's not much to look at from the outside and it looks a little rough on the inside. They serve some great pies that are not greasy and have just the right amount of toppings. I will definitely be going back for more.

  • Kevin W.

I haven't been to this place in a few years, but I distinctly remember it being the best pizza I have ever tried. Small, family-owned place that made for a unique atmosphere. I am not surprised this place has survived, but I am survived that more people don't know about it! I believe they also serve subs, salads and other things typical of a pizza joint, but I can't comment on them.

  • Tracey J.

OMG! This is the closest to NY pizza I've ever had in Albuquerque! Decor is WAAAY outdated but who cares when the pizza is this fantastic!

  • Chris E.

As a former employee back in 2000 I know this place and had been going there for years before I started working there. This is a nice family owned pizza joint that has delicious new york style pizza that tastes way better than all the chain pizza joints. The service is always great and there is usually someone from the family working every night. All and all a good dining experience and if you're in the neighborhood you should stop on by.

Small shop with high quality pies. Dough is a great texture with out over seasoning or that greasy feeling left on your fingers. Though the store itself is a bit dated- it is not uncomfortable. I took my pie home and with a5 minute drive sitting on cold leather in a cold truck it was still hot when I arrived home. Cheese and other toppings were very tasty and pie wad perfectly cooked.

  • Jennifer S.

Loved every bite! The crust is perfectly cooked! The ingredients were fresh. The sauce is the right amount, and the cheese is great quality and not greasy!!! The price is exceptional too! Overall I would say this is probably one of the best pizzas I've had in a very long time!!!

Would Pizza Castle be 5 stars outside of ABQ? No. But man oh man, it's among the best you'll find here. Plus, I gotta give a bonus star shout out to my girl Ms. Pac-Man. They've got the sit-down tabletop version! My favorite way to spend 25 cents, hands down. My advice is to order your pie well-done. The few times I visited without doing so, I found the pizza needed just 2 more minutes in the oven. Their green chile is fruity and delicious, and comes in hot or mild.

  • Courtney A.

We just moved to ABQ and found this place using the Yelp app. The food was delicious! The servings were huge! And there were lots of homemade ingredients. Not to mention the staff was friendly...above and beyond. Excellent experience!

  • Tiffani C.

Pizza Castle has great pizza, but I will not dine in the restaurant. Its just so old and outdated and a little uhhh creepy.? I don't know I just don't like the atmosphere. I would give them a higher rating based on their delicious pizza but the mushrooms are CANNED! Its a disgrace to pizza everywhere. Please start using fresh mushrooms I beg you! You are ruining a great pie with mediocre toppings!

  • Alan F.

If you like New York pizza this is the place. I always try the cheese pizza as a test. The crust was chewy like it's supposed to be. Well sauced and delicious.

    (5)
  • Jon C.

Flat out good. Hand tossed fresh made pizza. If you are looking for a hidden gem hole in the wall pizza find this is it. Fresh ingredients, friendly staff, but most importantly just dang good hold it with two hands pizza. Not too doughy, and just the right amount of sauce and toppings.

Abq, Local, N.M. This is a great 35 year old pizza place. It has that old-fashioned gather a few friends and hang out for a while feel. The pizza my girlfriend and I got was good. Not the best I've ever had, but not the worst. It was made to order. I got the meatballs and mushrooms on the pizza with garlic toast. It is a special they have called dinner for 2. The staff where friendly and one of the guys I talked to said he has worked there for 10 years. It is right down the street from another great NM, Abq, Local New Mexican food stop. We enjoyed ourselves.

    (4)
  • Tera H.

Some of the greatest pizza NM has to offer! So happy that we can get East Coast style pizza right here in the 505! Pizza is life.

  • Matt P.

Still just as good as when I was a kid! This place is, and always has been LEGIT! I'll be back very soon!

    (5)
  • Kate A.

Used to be much better. New owners don't seem to care as much about quality as they did back in the day. First bad sign was when I got my slice with mushrooms and they had just put some canned/sliced mushrooms on top of a warmed up slice of cheese. Drinks are more expensive than most places and the killer is they charge for refills. That in itself will make me cross a restaurant off my go to list. Salad was ok, pizza was alright once I took the canned shrooms off. Tasted almost like the original pizza castle pizza, but not quite. On the plus side, staff was friendly and out going. Not enough that it makes up for the food by any means... Used to eat here a lot but haven't since it was sold. Decided to give it another try and I did. Definitely will not become a regular again... Shame :-(

  • Alexandra H.

The times I have gone here I received great food and great service! Besides looking like a traditional little pizza joint (which I love), they have the pizza to go with a "mom and pop" taste. I would recommend giving them a try.

  • Tanya D.

Only gave it one star because that's the lowest I could go. As far as pizza places go it would probably be a three but compared to what Bob and Teresa had it doesn't even deserve a one. Poor Bob is rolling over in his grave with the cheese that was on this pizza. Cheap cheese burns, cheap toppings make it worse. The only thing that was the same was the dough and the sauce. Our pizza's were undercooked so we didn't even enjoy that part of it. 5 people working all standing around doing nothing. It's going to get worse for the new owner, I don't see this place making it another year. What a shame! When we called to complain, no apology or any offer to fix the problem, just said he would let them know! Nice management skills! At least we still have Dion's.

Our favorite pizza in town! We keep coming back even though we've moved to a less convenient (to Pizza Castle) location in ABQ. Always friendly, always fresh, and always local. Delicious.

it was my familys first time a friend from work recommended it and i walked it greeted the prices were great i had paid walked away and went back later and with no hesitation the gentlemen who took my order remembered my name and asked what i needed. if your looking for a lil hole in the wall place for pizza this is the place!!!!!!!!

I would NEVER have gone into a place called Pizza Castle. Sounds like a kids pizza place with bad pizza. SO WRONG!!! I am so glad I read a bunch of reviews and gave it a shot. You walk in and are immediately enveloped in the smell of deliciousness. If you weren't already hungry, you will be in about half a second. It's warm and welcoming and just awesome. We ordered a few different kinds of pizzas for poker night and WOW! Everything was just astonishingly good - truly just yum! The sauce is excellent, the crust is perfect, the pizzas are huge and the combination of ingredients is perfection. The staff are really nice - big, burly guys cooking pizza and almost clueless about the register. The restaurant is very old school pizza joint from the 70s - formica tables, fake brick and video games. Comforting somehow. I fervently wish they delivered. I would never order from anyone else. So far, the best pizza we have had in ABQ over the past year and a half. Absolutely a huge recommendation!

  • Natalie K.

Best pizza I have found in Albuquerque. We dined in right after they opened around 11am. Ordered a small four topping pizza. It was ready in about 20 minutes and was delicious. The crust was thin and crispy but poofy on the edges, cheese was high quality, sauce tasted good, and toppings tasty.

    (5)
  • Tara M.

Reminds me of the slices I could get in Carol Gardens Brooklyn, thats a real complement. I would say you are better off with a slice and drink there then take away...I wish it wasn't true...but the crisp is gone by the time you get it home. Still tasty though...and I agree they should have beer.

  • Travel'en C.

This place is sleeper good. I'll often stop in and grab a quick slice and an ice tea and, it always hits the spot. I've even seen them more than a few times, draw up a fresh pie just to provide me with a fresh slice. Amazing. I recently order two large (18") pizzas to take to a customer's for lunch. Everyone, and I mean everyone loved the pizza. One thing that never ceases to amaze me is how many albuquerqians have not discovered or ventured out a bit to find other places to eat. For example...two of my customers live in the NE heights but have only eaten dions or that velencia pizza. After yesterday's intro to pizza castle, I think they'll be heading over to Eubank and constitution to indulge in a much more flavorable experience. Great crust, very balanced sauce and the toppings are also quite delicious. It's a top quality pie and well worth the trip from the north side of the mountain to enjoy.

Nice and helpful service. The food is reasonably priced. And the pizza is fabulous! The restaurant is a little dated, but gives it that old time feel.

My brother took me here today...pizza was good and the turkey sub was the delish...old school atmosphere, service was personal, prices reasonable over all good experience.

Have worked nearby a long time. Went in on a suggestion. Completely surprised by great pizza dough, not heavy on the sauce, fresh cheese and quality toppings. Friendly staff. Inexpensive. Will definitely go back for a sandwich!

We called in our order and carried it out. Our pizza was a 2 topping large (pepperoni and sausage). Very good tasting pizza. Order was nice and hot. Portions were a good size. Will go there again.

  • Robert B.

This place has kinda a lame name, but really great food. I ordered 11 pizzas from this place for guys at work this weekend, and they all raved about them. All the standard toppings, either hot or mild green chilis, and a full compliment of other foods. But for me, their crust is awesome! And the sauce is pretty damn good too. Good place, good food, local friendly staff - what more could you want?

    (4)
  • Kimi T.

I haven't had much pizza in ABQ so far, but this is my favorite as of yet. I really like the fact that their pizza isn't drenched with greasy grossness (yuck). Instead, you get a beautiful, perfect crust that's topped with delicious goodness! It's not as heavy and doesn't stick to your gut like other pizzas. The crust to toppings and cheesy goodness ratio at Pizza Castle isn't compromised like other pizzas with ridiculously thick, nasty, waste of space crusts and miniscule toppings. Pizza Castle crust is delicious, thin and beautifully charred on the bottom. So good! Definitely give Pizza Castle a try! You won't be disappointed!

  • Peggy R.

This place was SSOOOOO good!! We have driven by this little hole in the wall for years thinking it was just take out ... stop, go in, there is plenty of seating! We ordered their "special" with the works. The staff was very friendly and the service was great. The pizza was spectacular! Brought right from the oven to our table the crust was crisp with a little chew, it couldn't have been better. The toppings were great my ONLY complaint was the canned mushrooms instead of fresh. The decor could use some updating but you barely notice cause the pizza it so great. Next time we are in town we will be visiting this restaurant!

  • Jenn T.

If had to describe this place in one word it would be "okay". There was nothing blatantly wrong, but nothing impressed me either. The pizza was of Papa Murphy's/Papa Johns quality. Not nearly as good as it was described in some of the other reviews on here. Some of the empty tables were still dirty even though there were 5 people behind the counter chit chatting and we were the only customers there. Their prices are decent though. Our 18 inch 4 topping was about 19.50.

  • Nick R.

It doesn't look too impressive from the outside, but you'll be amazed at the surprise waiting for you inside this place! The staff are all friendly, and the pizza was absolutely delicious. Served piping hot, the ingredients were fresh, and the crust is light and chewy. We'll definitely return any time we're in town!
