Kap's is a nice little local diner. The food is consistently good, and the people are fantastic. I typically go for breakfast or to pick up a to-go breakfast burrito. Their chile is excellent, and they do a great job with the classics like huevos rancheros. I like to bring out-of-towners here for traditional New Mexican breakfasts, and it is always a hit, especially the cinnamon coffee.

Yelp - get it together - you have the wrong address. They are at 5801 Central NOT 8810!!! First time here. We will be back. Extremely friendly staff. Good food and clean restaurant.

Neighborhood eating spot. Not a chain. Diner atmosphere but very very clean and comfortable. Food reasonably priced and everything I tried was delicious. I got the chicken fried steak and eggs breakfast. Perfect. Chicken was all white meat and seasoned nicely. Eggs cooked to order perfectly. The service has stood out both times I have visited. Friendly and fast. They make customers feel very welcome. I will go out of my way to go there for that reason alone. Throw in the great food at good price and that's a winning combination.

We've been here a few times, and have always been satisfied, but never wowed. They recently updated and cleaned up the inside which is nice, as it desperately needed it. The staff is friendly and attentive. The food is just so so however. Especially for the neighborhood it is in. The chile should taste like grandma is back there making it, slaving away over a hot stove. Kneading masa by hand and taking pride in the happiness they will bring her welcomed guests. The chile, however, dissapoints. A bit bitter and blah. The green had a bite to it, but lacked in flavor. The cheese in my enchilada was still whole and cold and parts of my tortilla was burnt. The salsa was overloaded with pepper, yes, black pepper, I couldn't eat it. The cinnamon roll, however, was one of the best I have had. Big and fluffy with a ton of cream cheese icing and a ball of butter. Coffee is only $1.15 if you have a meal. I'm sure we will go back, but we were not impressed this visit.

My two sons and I had breakfast at Kaps for our first time this morning. We will definitely return. Hands down, the BEST Cinnamon rolls in Albuquerque: hot and buttery. We actually bought more on the way out to take home. The biscuits and gravy were fresh and creamy. The French toast was cooked to perfection. Eggs were cooked exactly as ordered. Our waiter was professional and tentative without being over bearing. Definitely 5 stars! We can not wait to return!

First time to Kap's!! Area is kinda ghetto and by "kinda", I mean a lot ghetto. Once you get past the area Kap's is located (San Mateo and Central) you're good. The inside is really nice and looks like it was recently renovated. Still had the diner feel which I liked. I ordered a coffee and sausage omelet. They had cinnamon coffee available that I didn't get for some reason? However, some people at my table did and said it was delicious. The plain coffee was still good! My omelet came with hash browns and I ordered a side of green chile. I liked my sausage omelet because the sausage used didn't seem like a frozen patty bought from Costco that the chef just defrosted and diced. Also, the green chile was impressive. It was actually hot!! I had to chug some water, and I've been living in NM my whole life so it's rare for me to find a place that serves hot chile. Hashbrowns were good; wheat toast was wheat toast. They served the toast with jelly and I didn't have the chance to ask if it was made at Kap's because it came packaged in just a small plastic unlabeled container, but it was really good. Lastly, ORDER A CINNAMON ROLL if you know what's good for you. Best cinnamon roll I've had and yes, I do feel bad saying that since I love Frontier. Service was excellent. I'll definitely come back!!

I have hit just about every mom and pop breakfast place in the ABQ area since moving here 6 months ago. So far, this is the best. Good/friendly service and all their breakfast food is great. Either the green and red chili are great adds to breakfast items. Red has perfect amount of heat (a slight sweat on the brow). If someone has a suggestion for a better place, I'm game.

Kaps has the best breakfast I've had in Albuquerque. That pretty much says it all. Their green chile is excellent but my favorite is the red chile... Only my Mother in Law makes it better! They also have the best chorizo I've had in years. And don't miss the cinnamon rolls. Wow!

This wont take long. Its not good. Friendly and attentive staff but not good eats. I read the other reviews and was enthusiastic about trying Kap's Chicken Fried Steak. Ordered that and an A La Carte Relleno because I'm constantly on the hunt for the best Relleno in the 505. This one was OFF (old, freezer burned, fridge smelling-gross) and I would stay away from it. Had a couple bites to be sure and I'm very pleased not to have been sick. CFS was pre-frozen and bland. Ive heard the Biscuits & Gravy were good here but truthfully its unlikely I'm giving Kap's another shot. This food makes me love Loyola's that much more.

Best sausage gravy (white gravy) in town! Kaps is a neighborhood diner, with a huge assortment of items including HOMEMADE tortillas. Everything under $10.

Great little local place on the old Rt.66. Only open for breakfast and lunch. I had a very satisfying and nicely prepared breakfast of hash browns topped with bacon and perfectly scrambled eggs with red & green chili and cheese. Only $5.65. I liked the coffee and it's only 75c if you purchase an entree. The folks next to me had the chicken fried steak breakfast and were commenting how good their food was, too. I love chicken fried steak so I will definitely go back and try it. It was nice that the green chili had some punch to it.

Best little diner in town, as far as I'm concerned! We had breakfast there last week and it was so very good! The hash browns were the best I've ever had and the red chile had a nice little bite to it. The service was excellent. Going to check it out for lunch today.

Good, cheap eats! We went and for two breakfast burritos, a sprite, cup of coffee, and a side of rice our bill was $12. Tasty and convenient. New breakfast joint!

I miss Seferino's. One thing I liked about them was their refried beans. So tasty. The beans at Kapp's are fine, but they are whole beans and I want the full fat, baby. The rest of the menu items are good. Service is always good here. Despite there being only hard surfaces, I never find it all that loud in here, which is surprising. I love their omelets and green chile. My mother prefers the red chile. The corn tortillas are kinda thin and dry. I guess they don't get much call for them. Flour tortillas are the thick, salty New Mexico kind. My mother didn't used to like them and now, she can't get enough. Go figure! Their iced tea is some of the best in Albuquerque.

Best huevo's rancheros in town. Try both red & green chili. I love them both. Awesome homemade tortillas. Staff is great!!! Fast & very friendly. Great local business.

Love Kap's. It's a diner so maybe 5 stars is a little high but the combination of good value and good service is hard to beat especially in what you would expect to be a little more of a dive. Everything is tasty, huge and cheap. My occasional guilty pleasure is a chicken fried chicken and eggs smothered in red chile. It's a gigantic unhealthy plate of heaven for about 8 bucks. Add coffee and the damage is still less than $9. Did I mention I love Kap's. Oh don't forget their hearty scratch made tortillas. Another nice touch.

Went in for Sunday late breakfast with Mom. Had the carne adovada omlette. It was great! Mom had huevos mexicana, she reported the same. The waitress said that Jesus gets in at 0500 to start the food prep including the carne. The 14 dozen tortillas get started a bit later. These guys are working hard to put out a good meal, and they succeed. Give them a try!

We eat here frequently because the breakfasts are great, the chili is hot, they have tasty cinnamon coffee, and the staff are excellent and personable. It is also inexpensive and a favorite of ABQ cops.

I absolutely love this place! It's super close to my house, but I would go out of my way for their biscuits and gravy. They're only open for breakfast and lunch, but absolutely everything I have had here has been absolutely delicious. The breakfast burrito plate is too much for me to finish in one sitting (I always ask for the hash browns in the burrito), and my boyfriend really digs the huevos rancheros. They add cinnamon to their coffee, and it's only $0.75 with your meal, and everything is very reasonably priced. The waitstaff are nice, and the food comes out quickly. Soooo good.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
