Casual dining restaurant, order at the counter then sit inside or on a small patio for delivery of drinks and food. The wood oven is spectacular! Mouth of a lion cooking all the good eats. The pizza crust is excellent, what is is about a wood oven that just delivers such an amazing taste? Several pizza selections on the menu or you can build your own pie. They also offer salads, sandwiches, and lunch specials. There is a take out counter that was constantly busy. I don't think the cooks at the lion oven ever stopped working! This would be an excellent place to order a quick dinner and pick it up on the way home from work. Service was brisk and efficient, our meals were delivered quickly and our plate cleared away when we were finished. There was quite a line waiting to order when we arrived so plenty of time to look at the menu and get the feel of the place. I'll be back!

The Margarita was better than the pepperoni but both were good. Staff was friendly. Indoor or outdoor seating.

Come here for the pizza, salad and BEER. You just can't go wrong with any of those items. Even if you don't drink alcohol they have the best root beer in town.

Order at the door before you sit down. Quartino of wine was just right for me. Food served very fast & hot. Small salad was very good. Alfredo was pretty good. Bread with spicy olio was tasty. Small pizza with pepperoni was very good. Lots of pepperoni. Ate too fast to take pictures

Great Pizza and I love the chile oil! Prices are decent and there is always a line so be aware! The cesare salad is great and comes with anchovies! I bought the chile oil bottle for $25 and if you take the bottle back refills are $15. It is large and will last a long time!

Always pretty good. I had a house salad (large size) and shared a salsiccia with my husband and son. The salad could have used a little less dressing (I always forget to ask for it on the side), but it was really tasty. I only had one slice of the salsiccia, but it was good, too. My husband and I added green chile to our half, which seemed to be canned and not spicy. I also had a glass of Malbec. I think Farina Alto has better pizza and wine, but I'm always happy with Il Vicino. $67 for 6 people (a couple of shared pies among them). Oh, it is time for them to update the interior. This location (and the Nob Hill one) were modern and cool when they first opened, but they haven't done anything different since then and they are starting to feel a little run down.

I'll preface this review by admitting that I've really only had 2 menu items here, pizza and dessert. Every time we come here they get it right. I like the spicy oil for the zuh, and the canolli (I know spelling) is p. dope. The service to a certain extent is kind of an afterthought because they're not a traditional sit and have order taken type of eatery. That said, they get the job done and are always polite. If I have any complaints I can't recall right now. Overall solid spot to grab some semi-fancy pizza or dessert.

The calzone is really good. Haven't had a pizza I didn't like. The quality of ingredients is what keeps me coming back. Prices maybe be a little high but it's worth it .

I haven't been in for a while (life is on the other side of town) we got a chance to grab lunch today. We picked up a small margarita pizza with green chile and a spinach salad. As usual our lunch was perfect, the food and atmosphere is always spot on here! If you haven't try adding the hot chile oil to the spinach salad it's fantastic! One thing that really stands out for me is the Coke on tap, it's adjusted just right it's one of the reasons I come back. When I opt for a sugar soda this is where I come (thank you!).

We walked in with our little dog and I was quickly looking at the menu so I could go outside with him, I had been in there for no less than a minute when I was approached by an obviously agitated man that made it very clear I needed to take our harmless dog back outside immediately and then when we walked to the patio to pick a seat, he demanded we sit at a table.thay was technically outside of the covered patio area and completely separate from the other diners, and th e flowers coming out of the nearby plant box covered the table, ensuring I got plenty of flowers on my pizza and in my face and hair. I'm giving one star for the root beer and another one for my pizza, that's it. Not impressed with a supposedly pet friendly restaurant. That was barely pet tolerant.

This is a great local Albuquerque pizzeria that uses great ingredients in all of their food. Their Piandines and Paninis are great. The Tacchino is my favorite sandwich in town! Their wood oven pizza is great too. They have nice Italian wines as well and beers too! Gotta try the sandwiches with the spicy oil!

If you want pizza and beer, this is the place to go. Service is quick and friendly, food is fresh, and the pizzas are always hot! They offer their own beers and root beer on tap (all very good) as well as a small selection of wine. The salads are huge and make for a good meal. Even their simple house salad is delicious. The Cesar does come with anchovies on the side, so if you're not a fan they can easily be left out. And they do offer their house dressing for sale! There's wide variety of pizzas with everything from sausage to goat cheese to artichokes. Pizza aside, their sandwiches are delicious, too. You really can't go wrong! A small desert selection is offered, my personal favorite being the flour-less chocolate cake. Very indulgent!

So aside from all the Mexican food you can eat here, when you feel guilty and want to indulge on a non mexican cuisine, go to Il Vicino and and have their iIl Vicino salad. So amazing! My girls got the best pizza that they want every time they come into town. Also, their service is so fantastic! All of our servers go out of their way to make sure everyone is having a great experience. Great service here.

We ordered the salsiccia pizza and subbed sundries tomatoes for fresh ones and it was very yummy! We ordered late at night for take out as we are staying near by. I'd rate this as a 4 pizza just missing 5 stars because the pizza is a little soft. When I think of wood fired pizza I think of crispy crust. Service was excellent! Will def order from again.

I love Il Vicino. They have great wood fire pizzas. Their baked pastas are also very good. You can add any ingredient to them, which is nice. I like to get the Alfredo with pine nuts as spinach. My favorite thing about Il Vicino however is their house made root beer. It is fantastic.

ATTENTION -- ONE STAR REVIEW COMING UP. ~~ I'm gonna save y'all a whooooole bunch of trouble and say if you're considering this spot for a decent pizza, turn around, pick up the phone, and order some Papa John's. If you're looking for overpriced, undercooked, weird tasting pizza, read on with joy and get ready for one of the worst pizza experiences of your life. For the rest of you who are just curious or don't have anything better to do, keep on keepin' on. I love y'all too. ~~ If I had to sum up my experience at Il Vicino in two words, they would be "maddeningly disappointing". That or "God-awful". I'm leaning towards the latter. To put it bluntly (as I did up above), I would have preferred ordering Papa John's pizza to Il Vicino's. Nothing about this place from top to bottom seemed to come together. To begin with the cosmetics -- the atmosphere inside the restaurant didn't really match the presentation from the outside. Looking at the entrance and the name of the locale, I thought it was supposed to be a somewhat proper place to dine where you order an wood oven-baked pizza via waiter and are treated to a somewhat sophisticated atmosphere on level with the advertised cuisine. Instead, I found it to be one of those places where you order up at the counter and then wait for them to bring you the food -- much like a Jason's Deli or some sort of low key sandwich shop. Maybe I was wrong to expect more, but I supposed "wood oven baked" carried more to it than a Jason's Deli. Forgive me. I was a sucker for your marketing ploy. Honestly, I could forgive the atmosphere letdown if the food was up to par. Unfortunately, it wasn't. My girlfriend and I ordered a salad and split a pizza. The food was so underwhelming, I don't even remember the name of the dishes we ordered, and I can't be bothered to look them up. The salad had chicken breast, artichoke hearts, eggs, cheese, and walnuts to accompany the usual assortment of salad greens. Strangely, it was not tossed, but laid out in layers across the plate so that I had to mix laterally across the plate. The salad was heavy on the cheese, but that could have been my own failure to mix what, in my opinion, should have already been mixed. Overall, the salad was decidedly mediocre, and definitely not worth the money spent. I've probably had salads of the same quality from a university dining hall. Or a drive through Wendy's. Those guys sell salads, right? Probably about the same quality. Okay, if you're still reading and are thinking "who does this guy think he is giving this place a one-star review?!", take a deep breath and buckle up. I'm about to unleash, y'all. The pizza we ordered had cheese, mushroom, pepperoni, sausage, green chili, and probably some other things as well. It took about 5-7 minutes for the pizza to come our table, which I thought was suspicious; how did they assemble and bake a pizza so quickly? For what it's worth, the pizza looked good. But that was about it. Looked. As soon as I picked up the first slice, I knew something was off. The pizza sagged off the crust and the ingredients dangled precariously as I brought it to my mouth for the first bite. As it turns out, the drooping optical aesthetics translated to the tactile texture in my mouth as I chewed. And man, did I chew. Everything was overwhelmed by the chewiness of the dough in the basement crust. The ingredients weren't coming together correctly, and it all seemed very off. They tasted fine individually in my mouth, but their flavors and textures were all too discrete; the taste and feel didn't meld together as a pizza should. After a bit of discussion, we concluded that it might be that our pizza wasn't cooked all the way. After all, they did bring it out extremely quickly -- even though it's supposed to be wood oven baked. We ended up asking them to rebake the pizza for a little while longer. Unfortunately for them, they don't rebake items, so we ended up getting a whole new pizza, which we instructed them to bake a little longer to ensure a thorough cooking. So surely it was an honest mistake, right? They just left it in the oven for a few minutes shy of what it was supposed. Second try should work right? Right? Nope. The second pizza looked slightly singed at the edge of the crust to the point that we could definitely taste the burnt flavor -- props to them following our instructions to let it cook longer to the letter -- but the problem with the undercooked basement layer crust persisted. The ingredients did start to come together more nicely l, but ultimately, the undercooked basemen crust proved too much to compensate for. The pizza, despite it being a second attempt, just did not taste right. In other words, the pizza still sucked. If there was any redeeming factor to this pizza, it's that it didn't taste half bad one day later when it was cold and we were starving. But that's really not something to hang your hat on, is it? One star through and through.

Very pleased. I had the salad with tuna. It was filled with olives and artichokes. My wife had a chicken salad. The chicken was dry so the waitress immediately offered something else. She ordered a panini but made with their gluten free pizza dough. She said it was delicious. My mother had the regular panini. She loved it. So, A+ on sevice.

There is something to be said for consistency and I have NEVER had a below average meal at Il Vicino's. The formula is simple: wood oven pizza, calzones, salad and on tap beer--or root beer--how can you go wrong? Their pizzas are DELICIOUS--I've never had one I did not like. I suggest the Rustica as it combines some of my favorite things: artichoke hearts, olives, fresh oregano!! The Melanzane is delicious too! They have plenty of options for meat lovers too. The spicy olive oil is great dipping sauce! Service is good and I've never waited longer than 15 minutes to get my food. This is not a fine dining establishment but it is a great place to pop in and grab a bite with your friends or family. Did I mention they have root beer on tap?

Consistently good! We usually go for the lunch special and although not advertised well, it includes any pizza(small sized), any salad(not just house), and a drink. The salad dressings are great that they make in house. I've also had the lasagna and paninis-very good! They have their own beers and root beer. Food comes out fast so it's a perfect lunch spot!

There is nothing to complain about, here. The food was delicious and flavorful, and the prices were great. We went for lunch, with 10 people, and the service was great. They have great lunch specials, too!

Good, very very above average wood oven pizza. Good ingredients. Love the spicy olive oil. Very consistent place. Kids get raw pizza dough to play with - better than crayons!. Very family oriented.

The food is always good! I usually change up my order every time...pizza and salad or just a salad but recently I tried the insalata pescatore and it became my new favorite!! Also, if you order pizza ask for a side of garlic oil (if you love garlic like me) if not, then stick to the chile oil!!

I've been here twice, and plan on returning in the near future. The pizzas are tasty, and you can modify any of the ingredients. I also tried their calzones, well- stuffed with yummy veggies. The service is great. The whole restaurant just smells delicious.

Good pizza & salads, tasty beer selections, lasagna is very good. Decent atmosphere to eat in & speedy take out with a separate line for pick up. The spicy olive oil goes great with the pizza.

My friends and I were craving pizza and stumbled upon this tasty establishment. It's located in a decent sized shopping center near a Greek joint. When we stepped out of the car we immediately could smell the aroma of an authentic wood oven cooking some amazing pizza. Once inside we weren't sure what to expect and learned that you place your order first then seat yourself at a table with a number where your meal is brought to you. There was a bit of a line so employees would take drink orders (to include alcohol) and bring it out to you which was nice. The staff was helpful in explaining the menu and lined moved fairly quick when it appeared way worse. My friends and I ordered numerous pizzas, lasagna, and salad. Food was brought out in a timely manner and salads were perfect portion sizes and fresh. Shortly our pizzas arrived and were the perfect size for each of us. It could easily be split for two, but it's so good you'll want your own. The pizza was thin crust and doughy. I anticipated a crispier pizza but surprisingly I didn't mind the doughy texture and all the toppings tasted very fresh! The combination was satisfying and nobody complained. Also, the lasagna was great as well. Overall, this restaurant has a nice atmosphere, good decor, food/pizza above average, and great staff. If I lived here I wouldn't hesitate to comeback again. To mitigate the fact we will not have time to comeback we all ordered a second pizza to take home. Oh yeah, you can call ahead and get carry out to bypass the line if you don't feel like waiting.

The family took me to this restaurant. I was not the one who wanted to go. However, I was converted. The menu had some great international pizza flavors and the oven made for a great thin crust. Not something you will find at a typical American pizza chain. Not a big fan of their beers or root beer, but that was more a personal taste.

Got take-out from IV. Salad and pizza. Gosh! I dislike eating non-healthy foods. I like to spend money at establishments that take the time to buy and use fresh, quality produce and grocery. IV was super yum! If I am wanting something healthy and good I will go to IV.

My wife was craving some Italian food and I was craving good beer and wanted to go somewhere to fill my growler. I figured Il Vicino would meet these criteria. IPA is my beer of choice, so naturally I got a pint of their IPA. I was excited because Il Vicino has won the NM IPA Challenge 3 years in a row. Well I don't know if this was a bad batch or a different IPA altogether but it was not worthy of the accolade. One of the servers walking around noticed the La Cumbre growler sitting empty on my table and asked if I was ready to get it filled (the cashier talked me into paying for the growler up front - bad idea). I told him that after trying the IPA I wasn't going to get it filled and he begin to tell me how much better he thought the Il Vicino IPA is compared to La Cumbre's IPA. I disagreed and the server quickly disregarded what I had to say, made a disgruntled sound and walked off. Very rude. Enough beer talk. For great locally brewed beer go to Marble, Chama, or La Cumbre (Or B2B because they seem to have ALL locally brewed beers on tap). The food was decent except my calzone was somewhat lukewarm and their green chile ($1 extra) was shameful. C'mon Il Vicino this is New Mexico! Get some Hatch chile or something; something with some flavor. Your green chile tastes more like bell peppers! My wife tells me I am too picky, but I don't think so because I work hard for my money and when I spend my hard earned money on sub par food and drink, I feel like I have been duped. One last thing to note is that this particular restaurant has the least favorable reviews of their other locations, so you may have better luck elsewhere.

Other than my own kitchen this is one of my favorite places to get a pizza. Even though it is often busy I always seem to get a table. The staff are friendly but not in your face. I love the thin crust pizzas and the calzones. You can't go wrong here.

Wow... after seeing 5*'s I thought it would have been better. First of all, you walk in and order... and then take your little number sign with you to your seat. (I thought this was a somewhat full-service joint.) Granted there are alot of choices when it comes to their pizza. A few paninis to choose from, a few calzones, about 1/2 dozen different salads, and about 3 pastas. I decide to try the pizza, right? I mean that's what everyone else has said was so good. I even ask the cashier among 3 of my choices which to go with, and he recommends his favorite the Angeli -- which was also my top pick. It had a balsamic vinegar sauce instead of the traditional marinara sauce, mushrooms, chicken, artichokes, and gorgonzola I believe. Meh! I shoulda went wtih the basic pepperoni and sausage. I was not satisfied. The crust was alright... I prefer crunchier, thin crusts. This was softer and a little doughy. And then there was the glass of pinot noir- yuck! Totally warm... completely acidic tasting. Worthless $10 glass of red. And there was no one serving me to ask "how is everything?". So i ate most of the pizza (which i didn't really care for) and mustered down about 1/4 of the glass of wine... grabbed my bottle of Aqua Panna and left. unsatisfied. Oh well.. tried something new.

Very good pizza. Could be a bit more blackened on the bottom and the top could be a bit hotter when server but a darned good pie. Lasagna was very nice although I am not a fan of so much oregano. Canoli was awesome. Simple, fresh, incredible. Friendly service, nice din.

Overall this is the best Il Vicino restaurant I have ever been to!!! The staff here is excellent, the food is always good!! Even if you get here and you see a long line more than likely you will be in and out within an hour. I always recommend for friends and family to visit this Il Vicino over any other, for the reason that you will always get the same excellent meal!

Always a great place to stop for pizza and beer. I am not always a can of order at the counter and sit down places, but Il Vicino pulls it off. They deliver great food quickly and then continue to check in with you to see if you need anything else. Bravo!

Absolutely loved this place. You do walk up and order, which makes you be put on a spot especially if you're not ready to order. But Great tasting food. Good price, didn't have long to wait and ambiance was great.

I hadn't visited in years but went because it was convenient and my wife wanted to go. Nothing to object to, really, but nothing worth going back for either. Just bland, nearly flavorless pizza. It was reasonably priced and, I suppose, better than the national delivery chains, but I can't see returning when there are so many better options. I would give 2 and a half stars if I could, so I'll be generous and round up to three.

Ok, so I was in the mood for good Italian food**. When that craving hits me, since I've moved to ABQ, I always make my own because I have not found 1 decent Italian Restaurant here yet (3 years later). However, After being pressured from my peers (some Italian food lovers like myself), I decided to give Il Vicino's a go. NOT a good idea. I got an order to go. The guy on the phone seemed nice enough when I really didn't make up my mind right away. So I ask him "Do you guys do antipastos? " The guy says, yeah, we do, it's on our old menu, but it's not a problem. Since I was craving an antipasto, I was excited for the food to come. Let me explain what a traditional antipasto is: Salami, fresh mozzarella, provolone, sometimes ham or capricola, and black pitted olives on a bed of lettuce with tomatoes (depending where you get it from). All of the meat comes rolled up in perfect little balls and it's usually served as an appetizer before dinner. There are also hot antipasto's but I don't have the patience to describe them at this juncture. Ok, so the "antipasto" comes with the Calzone I ordered. I was actually freaked out that they considered this an antipasto as soon as I opened the overpriced box it rode in with. The salad was some wilted lettuce (sad), slices of pepperoni (like sandwich sliced cheap value brand), FETA CHEESE!? I'm sorry, but I love feta cheese, in a GREEK SALAD. Who cares what else was in there considering the lack of anything Italian this salad contained. The Calzone was decent. It was edible, sadly the salad had to go after 3 bites. The order was almost $18 and all I got was some wilted lettuce and heartburn. Obviously, I will not be returning to this place and I know they are famous for their gourmet pizza but I couldn't get a slice to sample and their pies are probably ridiculously overpriced, so I'll just stick with Venezia's who has decent, large slices. **Of course I was brought up Italian with a mother who made everything from scratch and bawked at anyone who didn't do the same. However, I am NOT a food snob. I repeat, NOT a food snob. Just a connoisseur of sorts who knows good Italian food from my upbringing on the East Coast....and my Mom.

Kick @$$ pizza here, a wicked selection of toppings, and put together with good balance. The Root Beer they brew is awesome; lots of anise for the licorice flavor I love. Highly recommended.

Well, I'm still not impressed with this place. I went there with friends for the first time in over a year because they gave us attitude the last time. The attitude was better, but still not what you'd expect in Albuquerque. When I asked what types of beer they had on tap (becasue they don't have a list and the taps aren't marked) the guy said "the usual." Then the person bringing us the food just dropped the plate at the closest seat and waited for us to pass the food. Finally, the pizza I had was not good. Whatever that is they call marinara sauce tasted more like barbecue sauce. Maybe it's me, but this place just doesn't get me excited about eating out.
