Rarely do I give 5 stars to any place...and what a strange place to happen upon in New Mexico! The 5 stars is for the menu and the overall experience. Many "German" restaurants serve just sausage....oh and sometimes pretzels. That is not German to me. German is Koenigsbergklopse or Kohlroulade which is excactly what we got. In ginormous portions...Like really...huge portions, I couldn't believe it. The Klopse are Prussian meatballs and white zingy zangy sauce, and lemme tell you, the balls are huge and plentiful. We got the kohlroulade (stuffed cabbage) with both sauces and I really enjoyed the mushroom sauce while my dining companion preferred the tomato sauce. Anyway...I highly recommend Heimat House if you are in the area. GO GO GO.

My friend and I finally stopped at Heimat House on Montgomery and were not disappointed. The food was excellent as we are native to the Midwest and had access to a lot of German restaurants, Heimet's is right on target! There was so much food that we both took home a couple boxes by the tie we were done. If you like German food, this is the place to be!! Service was very very good.

Our dinner was so delicious! Let me start by saying, I am the daughter of a German mother who is a very good cook and I have visited Germany multiple times and had some amazing meals there. Understandable, I have pretty high standards when it comes to German food. Between my husband, son and I, we had the Hungarian mushroom soup, jager schnitzel, vegetarian mushroom stroganoff, sauerbrauten, dumplings, red cabbage, potato pancakes, and cheese spaetzle. Once all the food arrived, I realized we may have went over board in ordering but my son can eat a lot. Everything we tried was absolutely delicious and since the servings were large we ended up with lots to take home. The only tweak I would suggest is the potato in the potato pancakes being more fully cooked. As a vegetarian, I was really grateful for the abundance of vegetarian options on the menu - something I did not find while in Germany this summer. The vegetarian mushroom soup and stroganoff were both really good, as was the spaetzle. In addition to the wonderful food and good service, the beer selection is the best in NM. They have beers on tap that no other restaurant in NM has ever had before (I only know this because my beer snob husband told me). I hope they open their beer garden soon though so we can enjoy these great beers there as well. This was not our first time dining at Heimat House as we went soon after they opened. While we enjoyed our previous meal as well, I think the food and service were even better last night. I hope to visit again soon and try to save room for some of the great looking dessert we had to pass on because we were too full.

If these chilly days don't entice you to crave European food, maybe my review will help spark your interest. As soon as I saw bigos on the menu, I knew what I would be ordering. When it arrived and I took the first bite, my eyes teared up a bit. The flavor was *exactly* how I remembered it from my trip to Warsaw. This plate transported me back to the tiny tavern on the Old Town Market Square where I first enjoyed the dish. Everything that I hoped for and more. Will return often!!

I had heard mixed reviews on the food, but the one solid thing every said was how extensive the beer list is. Indeed it was; an excellent smorgasbord of local and German brews. My friend knew the owner so she came over and gave us the rundown on the menu and gave me some samples of their new drafts to try. The Zeppelin unfiltered Lager smelled super good and paired well with the sausage sampler. The food was a little different - the saurkraut was more mild, my friend's stroganoff was more seasoned and less sour cream based - but it was all good. Different from the German food I have eaten previously out of state, but I couldn't find a thing to complain about. I'd return alone just for the beer!

Amazing food. Beautiful restaurant with wonderful service and food made from scratch. Such a great selection of beer as well and the bartender was amazing. Wish they would open a location in Colorado!

Opening night is not the an easy night for any restaurant. That being said, HH did a good job not packing the place and then not fulfilling orders. We walked in around 5:30pm and put our names on the list and waited about 45 mins before deciding to sit down at the bar and eating there. They have an awesome beer selection and even some non alcoholic selections. The menu had all sorts of interesting German, Hungarian and Polish options. I had a dish of meat and peppers which was good but not great, my wife had the Jeagerschnitzel and my brother had a pork medallion wrapped entree. I have eaten at about a dozen German places across America and HH isn't the best or the worst. I'm supremely happy to have a German place in town now and WILL come back after the opening night jitters are over and hope to try out several other dishes. The red cabbage was not as sweet as I like and the German potato salad wasn't hot which confuses me.

So many beers to choose from! Did a few flights and impressed with the Bavarian IPA. Had the Bavarian pot roast for dinner. It was great!!! Very tasty! Finished off with homemade German chocolate cake. Oh so yummy!

The food is amazing. It's really hard to find places that serve German food, so this was really exciting! The pierogis were an excellent appetizer. I ordered the Kohlrouladen which was very filling. I would definitely recommend this place for the food and for the beer.

The Good: They have some German speaking staff, so if you want to brush up on your German, you might get a chance. My waitress was Jeannine, who speaks German quite well, and was super-friendly and helpful. The Bier selection is really good, and the food selection is good. They have Currywurst, which, frankly, is my all-time favorite German dish. Some Recommendations: They didn't have the proper wurst for the Currywurst, so they used Bratwurst, and the tomato/curry sauce was much thicker than what I'm used to. Also, no Mayo, which, if you're into authentic German Pommes (fries) and Currywurst, is sorely missed. My second time here, I ordered the Wienerschnitzel, which was delicious. My husband had the Stroganoff, which was good, but seasoned with a large amount of pepper. Please 1) Consider adding Mayo, or better yet, German style Mayo, to your options of condiments for the Currywurst, and rethink the density of the sauce, 2) maybe use a little less pepper in the Stroganoff. My plan is to stop by here once a week until I've tried the whole menu. I'm very grateful for Albuquerque finally having a German restaurant.

Service has been bad the few times we have been. Food was also bad. Beer selection is expansive... if you are willing to wait and pay a premium price for it.

We have tried the Heimat House twice. The first time we came for a few beers and food to share. The weiner schnitzel was pounded a little too thin but had good flavor. The spatzle was way over peppered and difficult to eat. The pretzel with cheese was not quite cooked enough. It was missing the crunch of an authentic German biergarten pretzel. It did take a while to get our beers but not much to complain about. The beer selection is wonderful. They have a beer on tap that we were only able to get in a bottle at the actual brewery in Germany. The second time we went it was a bit of a disaster. We were the 3rd or 4th dinner table to be sat the evening we went. The service was worse than the first time, taking up to 10 minutes to get a beer. The waitress never came to check on us. Two of our 4 entrees came out, 2 minutes or so later the 3rd came out. My entree was no where to be found. The waitress came over 5 minuets later and told us that she was freaking out and asked the kitchen where it was. She said it would be out in minute. She did not actually offer an apology. 5 minutes later I did not have any food. We found the manager who miraculously found my food which was no longer hot. The food all around was mediocre. My husband ordered a meal and asked if it came with potato pancakes. He was told that it did. It came with roasted potatoes. It also was a very bland dish and all of the flavors ran together. The dessert was freezer burnt. Overall the food is decent, the beer is great. We will go again and have a few beers at the bar and maybe share the weiner schnitzel. The service is atrocious. Don't come here for a quick dinner. While I understand that in Germany the service is not the same as the US, you have to flag down a waiter, and they are not courteous by nature, this is not Germany and has a long way to go.

It's a fun casual place to hang out, have a drink or two and get a bite. The atmosphere is welcoming. The people are wonderful. The owners care. They have a good selection of beers. There is a large bar and booths with tv and a larger dining area. The food is ok but they do listen to feedback and have made a few changes. The stroganoff, beet salad, red cabbage and cucumber salad are very good. I've tried several dishes and given the owners feedback. They have been receptive.

I was excited to see a German restaurant open here in Albuquerque.. but unfortunately that excitement turned to disappointment when the food arrived at the table The food is bland and unrecognizable as German cuisine. A small pretzel without salt with bar cheese that taste of flour arrived..then three small meatballs they called Rouladen arrived..bland red cabbage without nutmeg. The what they called German Chocolate Cake,. Dried out..had white iceing ..all the food was horrible... The beer and service was above average.

With a German Grandmother, I grew up eating many German foods. I was pretty excited that a German restaurant was coming to town. I was really hoping for some authentic, tasty German food, but alas it was fairly bland. I had the bratwurst and found it to be lacking. The potatoes were also undercooked. My wife was excited for the many vegetarian options, but her veggie schnitzel tasted like oil and was otherwise flavorless. Our dessert was pretty incredible and I generally hate desserts at restaurants. This one tasted homemade and was well worth the extra 3 hours it would take to burn off at the gym. Service is pretty awful. Expect a long wait for beers, food, dessert, check. A restaurant should also invest in more concerning hosts especially since they are the first thing you see when you walk in to the restaurant. The two girls at the front seemed less than happy to be seating another table. I was also disappointed with the attire of the staff. It was like a cross of Mexican and German. Our server was friendly (even if she was stretched thin with her tables) and a manager stopped by to chat. Everything here is 1.5 stars, but the beer list saves it and brings it up to 3 stars. An amazing selection of German beers. I was also happy they didn't have many inferior 'filler' beers on the list. I'll be coming back for beers but I think I'll hold off on the food till they dial it in.

After reading some of the reviews we were hesitant to try this German restaurant. However we tried it with our friend who was born and raised in Germany. We gave also ebb to Germany many many times. We decided to give it a go. We were very pleasantly surprised. We had the Hungarian spicy sausage soup / very spicy but we love spicy so perfect for us. We ordered the wiener schnitzel - cooked to perfection - light and tender. Our friends ordered the rolled steak and raved about it. Best of the 3 desserts ordered was the apple cake. We definitely will return and our friends are going back this week to celebrate a birthday. Would recommend if you want home cooked German food. They have a baker that bakes fresh desserts everyday. The server was very attentive and even though we found mistakes in the bill she graciously took care of it quickly. Do try this new place out!

My son-in-law and I had dinner here. The number of beers on draft is quite impressive. The bad news is that many were not available, although that may indicate that there is good turnover and that therefore the beer that is available is fresh. After trying to order three different German beers, I gave up and ordered a Rogue hazelnut brown, quite appropriate for a member of the Rogue Nation. The service was outstanding. My son-in-law, who spent six years in Germany as a child, ordered the Rouladen. He said the sauce was almost like ketchup. I ordered the Wurst kit Sauerkraut. The two sausages were good but industrial. They were not nearly as good as the house-made sausage I had in a restaurant in Santa Fe recently. The slices of potato were so undercooked as to be almost raw. And I recently had much better Sauerkraut at a BBQ restaurant in Albuquerque. I was unable to finish either potato or Sauerkraut. We both hope that these are opening problems for this restaurant. Unless the food improves substantially, the beer doesn't justify going back. Schade.

The front of the house is poorly run. On February 13, 2015, we were seated at 19:30. A waiter took our order for two beers, two waters, and an order of pierogi at 19:40 and apologized for the wait. A busboy brought water without ice at 19:50. We requested ice, were told that it would be delivered. No one came by to take our entree order or deliver the beer. At 20:00 the pierogi were delivered with no apology for the poor service. Our empty water glasses were refilled at our request, still with no ice. We canceled our beer order, ate the pierogi, got the check, paid it and left. The pierogi were good, but the service was so poor we probably won't try this place again. There were a significant number of empty tables and it appeared that there were enough employees, they just weren't very effective.

The restaurant is nicely done and welcoming. We were promptly seated and presented the extensive beer menu. we ordered the dumplings to start with and found it to be mediocre. They lacked flavor and covered in oil. Immediately moved to the main menu. I ordered the Bratwurst and scallops potatoes. My meal was also lacking in flavor and presentation plus the temperature was cold. My wife ordered the stroganoff. Her meal was also cold and noodles overdone and the meat tasted like they just came out of a can. In regards of her salad the spinach didn't looked crisp. After ordering dessert we didn't get the additional plates we requested to share with our companions. We also requested additional silverware and were brought some forks and spoons to eat out dessert. She apologized for this by explaining there were no more clean forks available. We ordered some Belgium beer that needed to be served on a chalice and we were just given pint glasses instead. This place could be better. The beer selection is great but with so many great breweries in town to stand out they really need to work the food issues we encountered.

My husband and I decided to try out Heimet House for a quick lunch before I had to go do a show. We arrived and were seated immediately by a very friendly hostess. Our server was very prompt and very courteous. We told her we were in a bit of a rush and she accommodated us by taking our orders quickly. I asked her advice between two different dishes and she gave great information which allowed me to choose the beef stroganoff while my husband picked the meatballs with capers. I also had a sausage potato soup which came out immediately. The soup was delicious, with a rich broth and chunks of sausage and potatoes. Our main dishes arrived very quickly and smelled wonderful. My beef stroganoff was a very generous portion with a great sauce and big pieces of very tender beef along with savory noodles. My husband tasted the meatballs and his face lit up - I tasted one and it was wonderful - very tart with a delicious cream sauce and a strong capers flavor, which we both really like. Each portion of food was big enough that we both brought some home and will have the leftovers for lunch today. Alas, we didn't try any of the beers because I needed to be 'on my best' for our show, but we are definitely going back so we can sample some of the excellent beer selection they have. Some other customers were trying the beer flights and they looked great! I was thinking of German food as very heavy and was wondering if I should have eaten it before a show. But our food was great, it was not heavy, the portions were very generous and Carri, the owner, came over to greet us and make sure everything was good. ABQ has a new wonderful German restaurant where everything is made from scratch - I highly recommend this place if you're looking to try some great German food.

Disappointing. The pretzel and beer cheese was great so we had high hopes for the entrees. Rouladen was good but the German 'fried' potatoes were nasty (undercooked potatoes that had never touched a frying pan and borderline raw onions) and the red cabbage had zero flavor. The sauerbraten was just WAY over cooked pot roast with vinegar gravy...served with dumplings that were raw inside. We sent that whole plate back after one bite. Spaetzle with gouda was ok and the service was good. Was excited for something different but left feeling a little sad.

My mother-in-law and husband are German. I have visited with them and experienced mostly Bavarian style foods. We visited Heimat House a few months after they opened. Before we went to dinner we read a lot of online reviews. We are very glad that we decided to try it for ourselves. It seems that many of the major complaints were addressed and fixed by the time we went. First, our server, Lindsay, did a very good job. Nothing in our orders was forgotten and she made sure to check on us regularly. She was quick to fetch any requests and was very friendly. If anything, she was overly apologetic if it took longer than she liked to get something for us. We ordered the Spicy Hungarian soup to taste. It was AMAZING.--very rich in flavor and actually spicy enough to deserve the title. I tried to replicate it at home and failed miserably. Hearty enough for a small meal if you had bread and maybe a salad with it. The beer flights were very affordable and I didn't taste them but my companions liked them. For entrees we ordered the Konisberger Klopse, Golabki, and Bayerisch Pot Roast. All of the servings were very large. The cream sauce on the Konigsberger Klopse was rich and tasty, and the meatballs were well seasoned. The tomato sauce on the Golabki was too plainly seasoned for me, but I like heavy spice. All of the meats were tender, and the various sides of red cabbage, etc were delicious. The diced and fried potatoes seemed a bit out of place--boiled or mashed would have suited the main foods better. We were too full for dessert. The price was fair--about $60 for three entrees,a soup, and some beers. Nothing is, or should be expected to be free! The meals were big enough to have lunch the next day, so consider that in your price. All in all, we were satisfied with our meal and the service and we plan to visit again.

I have been wanting to try this place since before they opened and have been following them on Yelp and Facebook. I finally had my chance this evening. We went kind of early (around 4:30) because my husband missed lunch today. We were impressed by the friendly greeting by the hostess and my our waiter Joey. Joey was extremely knowledgeable on the variety of beer and offered us a sample before we made our choice. We wanted to try the potato pierogis because my husband's family makes them from scratch (Polish/German Ancestry hence our last name) but unfortunately they were hit hard a lunch and were still an a hour away from a fresh batch (now I wish we had went later). The waiter was very apologetic eventhough it was not his fault. Before we ordered out meals I asked if we could substitute our sides and he said "of course!". I ordered the Roulan with german potato salad, cucumber salad and added sauerkraut. My husband ordered the wienerschnitzel, german potato salad, sauerkraut and added cucumber salad. My son ordered the Sausage Variety Platter with German Potato Salad and Sauerkraut. Not one of us had a complaint, all food was perfect and very good portions. We were stuffed. I can only say to the people that complained earlier in the opening, should go back and give them another chance. We will go back for sure!

There were seven people in our party for lunch today. We were very excited about a German restaurant opening in Albuquerque and had such high hopes. We are completely disappointed. After our dining experience today I wonder if your cook knows how German food is supposed to taste. What we were served today was terrible. It pains me to say this. I was excited about having a German restaurant in Albuquerque, but if they don't make some drastic improvements in the quality of their food, I don't think this restaurant will stay open very long. I can't imagine right now that we would make a return visit. We ordered two appetizers for our party of 7, the German pretzel with beer cheese sauce was not worth $7.00. The sauce was watery, and not creamy or cheesy at all, and it didn't taste good. The pretzel was dry and tasteless. The other appetizer, the pierogi was good, but for $7 the serving was very skimpy. There were six small pieces, and I looked at that and thought they didn't look like they should cost over $1 each! Both the saurkraut and rotkohl tasted like it came straight from a can or jar. The spatzle was tasteless and doughy. It had to have come from a box mix. I had the Pot roast. It was tough and chewy. My husband had the Roladen. It wasn't as tasty as we've had in other German restaurants. When the server asked us if we needed boxes for the uneaten portions of our meals, we all said "no thank you!" It was way too expensive for the quality of meal that we got. We will not be making a second visit to the Heimat House and we are very disappointed.

This is a wonderful restaurant that I recommend to everybody who enjoys delicious German, Polish and Hungarian food. It is so nice to eat in this family owned restaurant that offers an exceptional collection of vegetarian food as well as the traditional meat offetings. You will love the pierogis - they are best in the state as well as there wonderful sslads, entrees and appetizers. If you want to have a delicious break from standard food comr and enjoy this wonderful restaurant and don't miss out on the desserts. It is well worth the trip.

Lunch was slow, and very uninspiring. The Schnitzel mainly tasted of the overcooked breading and the sauce was a small dollop that was overly thick. The curry sausage was okay but also poorly presented. Some fried potatoes, and cut up sausage covered with a tomato sauce that had a small hint of curry. Could have used some color (even a bit of parsley would have livened it up). Took 10+ minutes before we even saw our waitress and then 30mins for the food to come. Not waitresses fault though, saw a few tables just get up and leave...... Sorry, would not go back.

Really enjoyable dining experience from the welcoming hostess to melt in my mouth dessert. Friendly, enthusiastic staff. A crazy selection of beer. Sauerbraten, don't get here after I do or it will like tonight, "sorry but that guy ordered the last plate."

I really wanted to like this place because it is unique as it offers German fare. Unfortunately, our server was unable to make a beer recommendation based on a member of our party's taste, which we thought was odd given the extensive beer list. When this same member of our party asked the bartender for samples to help figure this out, she refused, starting our waiter was the one who could help her with that ( which he obviously couldn't). Service was slow , deadpan, and at times dismissive...although the manager was quite friendly. Food was just okay. 1/4 plates ordered tasted good or authentic. Not sure if we hit this establishment on an off day, but we were really disappointed. It felt like going to a bar for bad food...not out for a special treat to a German restaurant.

I'm going to take a moment and totally rave about this place! The food was excellent!!!!! We tried a bunch of German beers and they were super decent! I was very happy to be having dinner with cool people who shared, so I got to try a bunch of stuff and I was not disappointed by any of it. EVERYTHING WAS DELICIOUS!!! It was our first time there and I was totally impressed. They say they make everything fresh daily and it showed in the flavor of the food and the desserts! Oh the desserts! They seem to be off to a slow start so I hope it catches on quick. Albuquerque needs a place like the Heimat House.

Great service and authentic German fare. You can tell management took action on earlier comments. If you have folks in your party who enjoy spicy they can get it here too. Great food selection and many beers you can't find anywhere else in town. Appreciated the gluten free options. We look forward to coming back soon.

Good beer and service. Four in our party of six was disappointed with the food. My Stogranoff's flavor paled in comparison to a MIchalina's microwavable box. My wife's Goulash/w/potato pancakes included a thick hash brown patty buried in a bland tomato and meat sauce. My "German Potato Salad" consisted of paper-thin sliced, steamed potatoes, dusted with parsley flakes, which was mixed with a flavorless, meager, watery concoction that I guess was supposed to be sweet/sour sauce.

Omg best German food I have found ! It brings back memories of my grandmothers cooking . All the small details of flavor are there. The desert tray is to die for , we had the apple cake it was excellent . We will be back for more very soon . The portions are large and the value excellent. Thank you for the experience !

the restaurant is a very unique four tier design. the top is the bar. the second is private booths with a large tv for each. the third is where we were sat. its regular section. and the last, bottom is like a sun room. good food, good service, good atmosphere. its a winner!

Great food, great service and great beer list. We had 4 entrees--schnitzel, cabbage roll, the German pot roast were great. Perogies were fine, but not amazing. Server was very knowledgeable about their menu and huge beer list and fairly knowledgeable about their wines.

Good experience on first visit. The restaurant was over half full, impressive for a Monday night. We asked for a beer suggestion as there were SO many choices. The manager himself came out to discuss our likes and dislikes and recommended a wheat beer from Germany, where they are the only restaurant in the southwest that carries this specific beer. We had, in order of LIKE factor - beet salad, which was AWESOME! - Rouladen, very moist and tasty - Wurst and sauerkraut, with real German mustard, yummy - Red cabbage, good. One found flavorful, another of us said was ok - potatoes, last only because they could be a little crispier, but they were cooked in traditional German manner. Wonderful wait staff (we had Whitney, and she was great), good food, nice atmosphere (they made the dining tables themselves and installed new tiles), overall a comfortable neighborhood type restaurant for dining out with friends or visitors. Service: 9 Food: 9 Atmosphere: 8 We will be back.

Food was ok, a little different than what I am used to. My biggest complaint is how they pour beer. These are German/Belgium beers and need to have a "head." To the bar staff...STOP POURING THE BEER LIKE IT'S AN IRISH PUB, PUT SOME HEAD ON IT. The line on the glass is the beer fill line the rest of the glass is for the head! The service staff is wonderful though.

I will try anything once. Unfortunately in the case of the Heimat House never again. To get more bland food you would probably have to find the nearest hospital cafeteria. Potato Pancakes were too thick and not cooked enough. Pierogies were flavorless and also undercooked. Being from Milwaukee I know good German food and this is not even close. I didn't expect anything great but this was just poor.

The food wasn't good at all. It lacked flavor and was luke warm coming to the table and by the time we were in the middle of eating our food had gone completely cold. We had the pierogies which were flavorless and pot roast dish was extremely salts and cold. The extensive beer list was the saving grace of this place. It's the only reason I gave it two stars. Will probably not come back.

This is our third visit to Heimat House. The first two times were excellent experiences. We brought friends with us based on our previous visits but were unfortunately disappointed in both the service and the food this time. Two of the beef dishes were not warm at all when they arrived. Cold to the touch. Also we were missing a set of cutlery that we asked for and our waiter never delivered. We ended up having to flag down and ask a another server. In addition, the stroganoff, which we had loved previously, was over salted. To top everything off, one of the kitchen staff came to our table and asked us to leave at 10:30 PM even though the closing time on Friday evening is 11 PM according to the website. He even said "our closing time is 10 PM actually" as if we had kept them around after closing. It was certainly a sour note to end the evening on. It's a shame as this place has a lot of potential, a great beer selection, and a cool atmosphere - and we would love to see it survive. We hope they will work on improving their service and the consistency of the food as there is nothing quite like it in Albuquerque.

So I returned with my wife for lunch a few weeks after going to them the last time and now they had their in house pretzels. MMMMMMMMM. That was well worth going back for. The rest of our meals where great too, but the pretzels MMMMMMMMM. The second great thing about that visit was the owners remembered us and welcomed us back like we where life long patrons which to some it doesn't mean much but to my wife and I it means a lot.

Beer selection was Great! That's It! The rest was horrible!!! Service was almost non-existent and awkward at best. I've lived in Germany....this didn't even attempt to hold a candle to any real German restaurant. I've ate a several German restaurants around the US and this was by far the WORST German attempt at a restaurant ever. My beer I ordered took forever to get out me. I could tell the waitress could care less. I ordered my favorite German recipe, Sauerbraten....what came out was, and I'm not kidding, roast beef!!! What the.....!!!! The red cabbage was kind of on the mild side, but the worst thing of all was the dumplings were flat out raw dough!!! I mean completely raw dough! I was in complete shock. It was far beyond being able to complain about....I mean if it's this far off what's the point? The rest of our parties food was plain, and bland. Nobody liked their food. And the bill for 4 folks you ask? $90! For the worst attempt at german food ever....I was insulted. Heimat House you stink.

Stumbled across this place, and it was a great find. For a long time German food was scantily represented in Albuquerque, and this restaurant definitely filled a German craving! We tried the wurst mit sauerkraut and sauerbraten. Both dishes were hearty and well prepared. The wurst was plump and juicy, and the sauerkraut had a nice kick to get your juices flowing without being too pungently overpowering. the sauerbraten was also very tender, with the fatty parts adding a nice flavor boost as well as preserving the moisture of the dish. Oh and the beer list... amazing selection of German and more local flavors. Will definitely be keeping this place on a regular dining list!

Had dinner on a Saturday night and altho food was good, we left hungry. Nine slices of cucumber on my plate for salad. Half a cup of spaetzle. Rouladen was tiny tiny. Scanty portions in a German restaurant is sacrilege! Ordered a soup AFTER dinner to fill up, the soup was luke warm. Had delicious dessert with coffee, coffee was luke warm. Too bad, we will not be back.

Bottom Line First: Great beer, but the food is over Americanized & needs more seasoning. The resulting loss of quality and authenticity loses them a star or two. PROS: - Beer selection, diversity, & authenticity is VERY GOOD! Probably the most extensive German/Euro beer list I've seen since leaving Germany after living there for 5-1/2 years. I had lived close to Andechs monastery/brewery in Bavaria, so ordered the Andechser Vollbier at Heimat House. Very good! - Bayerischer Schmorbraten (roast beef) I had was cooked falling-apart tender & had good flavor. - A companion praised the Polish stuffed cabbage rolls with tomato sauce she had. - Wiener schnitzel got passing grade from a native Austrian for its crispy coating & ungreasy texture. 'Nuf said. - Spaetzle density & texture was on the mark. Not overcooked or mushy. - Very generous portion. I had plenty of take-home for another meal. - Decor & ambience are pleasant & quiet enough for conversation sans shouting. I and a few companions out of a larger group did a Euro type dinner (a leisurely few hours conversation over food & beer/wine) on a Monday evening and got no grief from the staff about our lingering at the table. - Service was friendly & generally prompt, albeit a bit rushed when our relatively large group came in. The wait staff was attentive & kept checking back with us after the bulk of the group had departed. Any delay in getting food seemed to arise from the kitchen fixing the food, which is not necessarily a critique since I recognize that a 20-30 person influx will load the staff down. - While we were too full for it, the offerings on the dessert tray looked good. I remember seeing Sacher torte, Black Forest cake, aple strudel, & German apple cake among others. Next time I will have to leave room to try dessert. CONS: - Red cabbage side dish was bland & missing the vinegar bite that is a signature of this dish. There was also no caraway seeds or any of the other optional spices that are sometimes used to make this dish distinctive. I suspect Heimat House thought they needed to tone down the dish for American palates. Not true & not a good result. - Spaetzle on all four plates came without enough (any?) butter or salt & pepper on it. Consequently, they tasted bland in the extreme! While the waiter quickly & courteously brought us butter to add to the noodles, which added greatly to the flavor, that the kitchen would even consider sending out spaetzle without being dressed with butter is inconceivable. Generous amounts of butter on spaetzle were a hallmark of this dish whenever I had it over the years in Germany. I suspect the lack of butter was an attempt by Heimat House to cater to an American health consideration that robbed the dish of its flavor. - Note to kitchen: SEASON THE FOOD!!! Respect the ingredients you are using and the discernment of your customer's palates enough to infuse your dishes with sufficient & authentic flavoring. Your current choices are not working in your favor.

Absolutely love this place! The beer selection is so good, and so unique! So far, I've enjoyed everything I've ordered, they are a little slow, but it's worth the wait!!

This place had mediocre service. We order the spaetzle with cheese as an appetizer. It was very good. However, our meals were awful. I had the Bratwurst. The Brat itself was ok but the potato salad they served with it was dry and tasteless. The sauerkraut was fine, but I've had so much better. The bread they served with the brat was hard and dry. This place is not worth the money, don't waste your time!

First visit on Saturday night for an early dinner. Service was fantastic and the appetizer came out quickly. The food took a little while, but the Sauerbraten and the Schnitzel were both excellent. The beer list was extensive and the server was knowledgeable, which is a nice change in ABQ. We will be back again soon!

This was our first visit, having decided to try out this new German venue for my wife's birthday. Since it was a Sunday evening, the place wasn't too busy, but parking might be a challenge on busier nights since the lot is shared with a number of other businesses. After being promptly seated, we were presented with wine and beer lists, which each offered a good selection from which to choose. As often seems the case, we both ordered the same entrée - Jägerschnitzel, which came with German noodles and red cabbage. Our meals were served in short order, piping hot and of average portion size. There could have been more gravy on the schnitzel, and a few more noodles would have been nice, but everything was very tasty and quite filling. We also had dessert, black forest cake and apple strudel. Both were extremely good, served with real whipped cream. We found that their desserts are prepared in-house by a pastry chef that comes in five days a week. The only criticism that I had considering the wine and beer list, is the lack of familiarity by the server of those selections. Given the newness of the restaurant, I chocked this up to time and training. Overall, we really enjoyed the meal and will plan to return regularly since we are big German food fans.

This was my first visit. One word sums this place up...average. Although they have a nice beer and wine menus, the food leaves a lot to be desired. To start with the beer I ordered and the wine my spouse ordered were out of stock. Then they were out of my first selection of entrées. When we finally got our orders my entrée, the rouladen, had decent flavor, but it was overcooked. The beef was like jerkey. The high point of my meal was the red cabbage which I am not sure was homemade. I also want to note that we ordered waters with our beer and wine that our waiter never brought to the table. I had to go to the bar to get water for our son who did not get a drink at all. My spouse ordered cabaage rolls. These were a bit better. However, the low point of the meal was the German potato salad which was without question the worst I have ever had. The potatoes were raw and bland. I doubt I will ever go back. We are new to the Albuquerque area, and have German heritage. I was really hoping we had found a place to entertain family when they come to visit. I certainly won't take the family here.

Finally got around to going to Heimat House. As an ABQ beer scene semi-expert (that could be a good or bad thing I guess), I was excited to try this new approach for beer in a city full of avid hop-heads and dark ale lovers. The idea of an authentic German beer garden setting excited many beer lovers in ABQ. Heimat House is located in the old Assets grill near Montgomery and Louisiana. Living here my whole life I can say that the interior hasn't change a single bit in its existence and desperately needs an upgrade. The staff wear traditional German pub attire and this place is definitely as authentic as one could hope for with its food and beer selections. Guessing there were upwards of 30+ taps of mostly European beers and about 10 local taps. The listed bottle selections were even more impressive. Ordered a simple authentic German pretzel which was a first for me and it was certainly different, but outstanding nonetheless. It seems that this location has always been a challenge for the many restaurants that have occupied the space; however, obviously the location of most of ABQ's breweries has proven to break the old saying that it's all about "location, location, location" and instead proven that ABQ is officially a real-deal beer destination. I will definitely return to try new beers and authentic German food and it's a must try in my opinion.

The ambience is very nice and we received great service. We were a group of four and we tasted each other's dish. Very tasty, full of flavor. The ONLY reason I'm not giving a 5 star is for the beef served on the stroganoff. Come on guys, charge more money and serve filet mignon. My beef was so tough that I could not eat. I was very sad that it had such great flavor, noodles cooked to perfection but I could not eat the tough meat!! I'd love to see it change on my next visit, then I can give you the missing star.

I'm torn...3 stars? or 4? So I've been here a few times and I have to say that this by far is the best installation that has been housed here. Installation? What I mean to say is that out of all the restaurants/bars/etc that have rotated into the space, this is hands down the best! To start, their wine and beer menu is quite impressive. There is sure to be something for every palette. We thoroughly enjoy the Kasteel Rouge on tap. I don't know of another establishment in town that has it on tap. We fell in love with this beer in Colorado and buy the $14 4-pack at Total Wine on special occasions. They had a few kegs of The Abyss on tap but they ran out and it doesn't sound like they'll be getting any more. Moving on to the food. I've had the pretzel, brussel sprouts salad with spicy vinaigrette (they're not kidding, it has a good kick!), cucumber salad, sausage plate (appetizer), Hungarian sausage spicy soup; and I've tried the stroganoff, pot roast plate, and mushroom soup. All excellent and with great service the first two times. However, the last two times that we've been in. The soup was only lukewarm, the order was messed up twice, and getting a refill took a while. I really hope it was just off nights because we really enjoy this place.

It pains me to give the rating I'm giving and write the words I'm writing, but that's the beauty of Yelp. People need the truth. Good honest reviews have lead me to so many good places over the years and saved me the trouble of shelling out dough to places that were not up to snuff, so I feel obligated to do the favor to others wise enough to use Yelp. I was hopeful for Heimat. Beyond hopeful really. I was excited about this place. Burque needs more variety in our restaurants. German seemed a brilliant addition. Before about a decade ago, German food meant nothing to me and I assumed it bland and boring before visiting Berlin and Munich and learning the splendidness that is their cuisine. That's what I was hoping for in Heimat, food that would take me back to Germany. Nope. No luck. Not even close, unfortunately. The pork schnitzel here was a heart-breaking disappointment. Dreams were shattered. There was absolutely no flavor. A mushroom sauce that I didn't want but had been talked into ordering at an extra $2 was sad and almost insulting for giving me the feeling it came from a can. Some German noodle nonsense on the side was equally disappointing and sad. The worst part, at lunchtime on a weekday, this cost me $15 alone. C'mon here people, set up a damn lunch menu! Eating in New York City cheaper than a strip mall establishment in ABQ? What world is this? Now on to the beer. Yeah, I'm a beer head. I have expectations that many customers could care less about. But hell, beer is in the name here, it's a big part of the draw and it's a big part of what makes this place theoretically German. The selection here is pretty remarkable. Many of the beers here haven't been on tap anywhere in NM previously (Vitus, the recently tapped The Abyss) and there are some bottles that I got excited to see here and immediately called Jubilation to find out why I can't get them in their store (Augustiner. In bottles. In New Mexico!). My only gripe is that a quality bottle and taplist is only as good as those serving it. I know Heimat is aware of that because it seems they work to educate their staff. The thing is though, they have a lot more education to soak in. German beers are getting lost in the sauce in our IPA-obsessed country, which is all the more reason to have knowledgeable staff capable of speaking up the virtues of pilsners, German wheat beers, bocks and the like. Finally, as I alluded before, the prices here are absurd. For what you get food-wise: close to highway robbery and insulting. Close to $30 for meal and beer at lunch time? Insanity. Heimat, in my 2 years back in Albuquerque, I've seen a number of restaurants come and go in your vicinity and it's safe to say they made all the same mistakes you are making. I can safely predict the days of (wannabe) German food in ABQ will be numbered unless you all make some DRASTIC changes.

After a couple friends urged, we decided to try this place. We were definitely not disappointed! The food was great - made from scratch and authentic. I had the stroganoff and it was the best I've had! Will definitely try the patio when it's warmer.

My wife and I love German food, and being new to town, we were happy to hear about this place on the radio and we're excited to try it. Upon entering, the wood decor gives the place a nice and warm feel. It was a Friday night, and we were seated within 5 minutes of arrival. We ordered the pretzel and beer cheese to start off. The cheese was horrendous, but we enjoyed the pretzel and mustard. When another waiter picked up our appetizer plates, he commented that the cheese was not the right color or consistency, so he credited that on our bill. If this waiter, not our own, noticed the issue, why did our waitress even bring it out in the first place? For dinner, I got the Jaeger Schnitzel with mushroom gravy, red cabbage, and noodles. The schnitzel was good, but the dollop of gravy was tasteless. The red cabbage was also flavorless and undercooked, and maybe not cooked at all. The noodles also left a lot to be desired. My wife ordered the brat plate and she enjoyed her meal. She also got a side of red cabbage and was disappointed with the lack of flavor and crunch. We decided not to have dessert. The thing we found funny was that the manager/owner was walking around asking everyone how their meal was, but he avoided us. Was it because he knew we weren't happy with our meal? Just something we noticed. Leave it to say we will never go back to this place, ever.

Hi may I have a beer please? At Heimat House the answer is yes, yes and yes! The only problem is how to choose out of the amazing selection. The atmosphere is really great and they've got a few TVs for you sports lovers out there. The portions are generous! Each of us had at least half left for later. The goulash was really good and the beet salad as well. The servers were all super friendly and we got our drinks, food and check super quick. I wish I had saved room for dessert!!

Food: 3 Service: 5 Value: 3 Like usual, we wanted to try everything so we over-ordered, again. Skipped out on any beers (they have many, many on tap), in order to order more food. As an appetizer, we started out with the pretzel with beer cheese. The pretzel itself was delicious, but would've been a little better with additional salt. The beer cheese was OK, but not really our kind of thing. We both ordered a soup; I ordered the mushroom soup, which was hearty and delicious. The spicy Hungarian sausage soup is very good, but very, very spicy. In addition to everything, we also decided to order their pierogies, which was somewhat disappointing. They were slightly bland, and needed a kick. At Polka's (in Los Angeles), we've ordered them sauteed in bacon, which definitely enhances the flavor. To add some flavor to them, we dipped them into our soups, which helped. The wife ordered stuffed cabbage (Golabki), and she said they were some of the best she's had. The Polish version comes with a heavy tomato sauce, and were excellent. The potatoes that came with needed seasoning, and we substituted for the cucumber salad, which was unfortunately over-seasoned with dill. I ordered the schnitzel with the mushroom sauce. The sauce itself was underwhelming, and the schnitzel needed additional seasoning; it was better after adding some salt and pepper, which I almost never do. It came with some spaetzle, which was pretty bland and needed seasoning. The cucumber salad was also very over-seasoned with dill. We saw the dessert and some of it looked pretty good, but we passed due to the overabundance of food.

OK - I ate here for lunch today with a friend and want to start out with the GOOD: 1) Our server, Hazel, was outstanding. She did a great job of keeping our drinks filled and explaining the menu, especially given that they have only been open for one week.. 2) The manager, Mario, was very solicitous of our opinions and seemed truly interested in what we had to say. 3) The owner is German, and seems to have a lot of passion about making a go of it. OK - now for the NOT-SO-GOOD (most of which was shared with the manager): 1) The red cabbage was undercooked and under-seasoned (not sweet or tart enough), meaning it did NOT taste like authentic German Rotkraut. 2) The "German noodles", or Spaezle, were not authentic, either. These noodles require a special process - it was pretty obvious that they are not doing it correctly. And finally, the BAD: 1) There is no excuse for the Wienerschitzel! A Costco-style frozen, breaded pork cutlet is NOT Wienerschnitzel!!!! You could have thrown marinara sauce on it and called it Pork Parmesan! So, there it is. Why did I give this place four stars? Because they are willing to listen and seem to want to make improvements that will ultimately result in a great dining experience. I sense that they are in the midst of opening-month jitters and are still trying to figure everything out. To those reviewers giving this place one star - get a grip and give this place a chance. It has the potential to be a unique dining experience for Albuquerque and I think that should be encouraged. My advice - try the place out for yourself and see if you don't agree with me.

I love Polish food. I was excited to go here, but very disappointed in what was there. Almost everything had curry in it to some degree. Guess what...there's no curry in polish food. This was Polish food finished with a side of WTF!! Pierogis - dry with no seasoning in the filling. They came with about 1/2 cup of sour cream and 1 tablespoon of onions - wrongheaded approach. Spicy sausage soup - the only discernible spice was red Chile. Everything else was drowned out. Golumpki - it has curry in it. That was disgusting actually. Rouladen - they might be able to correct this, but once again the wine sauce had curry in it. Came with at least 2 cups of red cabbage on the side (way more than 3 people can eat). The main problem is they used chuck instead of top sirloin or round so it had the consistency of pot roast. Very disappointing. Sausage platter - actually not too bad, but not great either. German noodles - cold, tasteless, balls of pasta, with no seasoning what so ever.

We went to Heimat House in January and I'm just getting around to this review. One problem was that as a vegetarian who can't have mushrooms there was only one entree I could eat. That being said I was aware of that fact before I entered the restaurant so I can't say I didn't know what I was getting into. We started with the potato pierogis which were delicious and very authentic. The potato leek soup was wonderful and warm on a cool night. The eggplant schnitzel was good though one always hopes for more variety. On the subject of variety their beer and wine list is large and varied. We were both pleased with our drink selections and talked of going back to try new ones. The only real downside was the dessert. In my opinion it was just not worth it. So go eat dinner, drink good beer and skip dessert.

I went with hopes and expectations of a great meal even thought the rating weren't good. I'm just sorry I had to give 1 star. The burnt rubbery snitzel was placed on 1/2 of worth Fowler smelling sourcrout I have ever seen or smelled. I had no clue you could mess this simple dish up.

I have eaten here three times. I'm alway happy with their beer selection. There food on the other hand is a hit and miss. Tonight it was a miss. That makes me sad , it's the only place in Albuquerque to get German food.

Service sucks. Food is only slightly better. Good beer selection though.... Just be ready to wait for it. Been there twice now. First time the order came out somewhat slow, but nothing to get the upset about. Ordered the roulade; it was very bland. The blaukraut was good though. Got the apple strudel for dessert and it was awful. Seem like it had only been recently unfrozen, and incompletely at that. Second time I got there shortly after opening and was the only customer when I got there. Stood at the door for about 2-3 minutes without being seated while the staff ignored me. Finally walked up to a random sever and asked where I could sit, and was then seated. Ordered a beer first and waited 10-15 min to get it. Ordered the wurst platter, which was okay. Blaukraut not as good this time. Don't think they'll be getting a third chance. For food anyway. I would sit at the bar and have a beer maybe.

My family and I ate at Heimat House last Monday evening. In a nutshell, we could not have been more pleased with our dinner. The service was very attentive. The atmosphere was attractive, understated, and relaxed (sans the "kitschy" over the top oom-pah-pah vibe that some German restaurants have). The beer selection was very extensive with many, many German imports to select from. Because we were not familiar with many of the imported beer selections, our server's training and knowledge was very helpful. He also kindly brought us samples once we narrowed our choices down. We ordered the Rouladen, Jaeger Schnitzel, and Pfeffer Schnitzel entrées. One of us ordered the Dill Pickle Soup and we shared an appetizer of Perogies. All were excellent. We have family from Swabia, and the Heimat House cuisine was very similar to their home cooking. Also, my brother said the perogies were the best he has ever had, including ones he has eaten in Europe. Since last March we have made it a point to try many different restaurants when visiting Albuquerque. To date, this has been in our opinion, the best restaurant we have encountered in Albuquerque. Heimat House focuses on providing quality beer, food, and service in a friendly, comfortable atmosphere.

After hearing great things about this place we'd been itching to try it and finally made our way to that side of town! First, the restaurant itself is well done, it has a warm cozy feel to it. The service was great, although the hostess was on her phone when we walked in she quickly ended her call. I'm on the belief that personal calls should never be taken while dealing with customers or in front of customers. Our server was fantastic - very friendly and knowledgeable. We each had a beer, which I now can't remember the name of mine but it was the dunkel on draught and it was delicious! We shared the beer cheese and pretzel which was also delicious, but there was only enough cheese for about half the pretzel (and we were skimping on dunks). For dinner I had the vegetarian schnitzel, it was good, but I think next time I might have to go for the stroganoff. Their mushroom gravy is pretty dang good! I will say I don't have much to compare the place to, never been to Germany or eaten at too many authentic German restaurants, however for Albuquerque it's a great addition to the food scene! We will definitely be going back.

Nur bedingt empfehlenswert: ========================== I saw this place and was excited for a taste of Heimat--the tastes and smells of Germany, for which I become homesick. Certain aspects of this place succeed, but it would be a failing restaurant in Germany. Quality and attention to detail simply aren't attempted. The beer selection is actually quite good. There are several German beers on tap that are nice surprises. There are also some very good and hard to obtain Belgian draughts, which are somewhat out of place amongst the Hefeweizen, but I'm not opposed. Also, they used the correct glassware, which is not necessarily a given. They don't have sparkling mineral water . . . . We started off our meal with a Laugenbrezel. This is one of the things I look forward to most with each return to Germany. I literally don't make it out of the Munich airport without a few from a bakery at the Flughafen. The pretzel at Heimat was an utter FAIL. It might have been from a movie theater concession stand, and it was expensive at $6.00. Actually, I had expected a basket of Brezen for the price, but when I saw what it was, I guess I was glad that the soft, glistening, squidgy, skinny excuse for a Breze' was alone it its oddly large basket. I ordered some rye bread to make up for the difference. The bread was okay. I was told in Germany never to judge a restaurant by its Wienerschnitzel. Anyone can make one. This isn't entirely true, and some are better or worse. In fact, it is probably one of the better things that they have at Heimat. Their Wienerschnitzel (vom Schwein) is fairly well pounded and not overly breaded. It is slightly browner than is typical. It was served with Spätzle, which is a bit odd. We ordered fries, which were okay and were the only thing actually brought to us hot, a bit soggy. The Spätzle themselves are a disappointment. Gummy, and like everything we had at Heimat, not warm enough--certainly not hot. At least some minced chives and parsley garnished them, an authentic touch on an otherwise barely acceptable dish. I myself had the Wurstteller (sausage plate), which I wouldn't recommend. Pretty sure they were just Boar's head Bratwurst and a short stumpy Bockwurst. Not browned adequately. I skipped the potato salad. The cucumber salad was properly seasoned but a bit unfresh, still not bad. The Rotkraut and the Sauerkraut were good but underseasoned. The mustard, a coarse, sweet mustard (think Weißwurstsenf) was all wrong. They would have been better off with a dijon if real German mustard were too expensive. The sweet mustard clashed with the Bratwurst. Better would be Löwensenf or Thomy, but these are obviously more expensive. My wife had the Königsberger Klopse, which were barely edible and a poor choice. There was no inquiry about her barely touched plate. The portions were surprisingly small for the genre. The prices weren't outrageous, but for the mediocre quality of the ingredients, poor attention to detail (no German would overlook any of the above complaints) and the presentation (lukewarm), not really okay. Frankly, I can do much better myself at home. Even my own Wienerschnitzel is better. Finally, I left somewhat hungry. The restaurant itself is an interesting adaptation of a sports bar. It has vague teutonic elements, but the space is a bit awkward and its strip-mall DNA cannot be overcome. It has none of the comfort (Gemütlichkeit) that one would expect and certainly none of the workmanship that one expects. Even some music would help. Maybe lose the TV's. I was hopeful that I would have a German encounter, but none of the staff seemed to be German speaking. Maybe I missed that. There was at least a guy in Lederhosen. The staff were friendly and professional, just not in any way German. Kind of like getting Chinese food served to you by white guys. It gets 3-stars because, sadly, it is the best German restaurant in town, and the beer is very good. Frankly, this place would struggle at a German truck stop and fail in any hotel or small town in Germany. It needs to re-visit its bread supply, work on its presentation (warm food), download a good Spätzle recipe (perhaps with a Käsespätzle entree option), and figure out some German ambience. If the owner is truly German, I challenge him or her to produce food that has the quality of that expected in a restaurant with the name Heimat. Something that would be acceptable at home. No fake pretzels. Use the right seasoning and condiments. Don't think shortcuts will go unnoticed--NM has a significant German population. I want HH to succeed.

Great experience on first visit. Sauerbraten and meatballs were great. Our server was very knowledgeable and super friendly. Food came fast despite the place being busy. It was so good that I decided to come back with friends. The second visit was less successful. The kitchen was unable to service regular customers successfully while responding to a large party of 20. The pretzel appetizer came out under cooked and freezer cold in the center. Entres took an hour after ordered, and one of four came out undercooked and cold in the center. The waitress seemed down on the kitchen. But the food was otherwise good. Advice for the owner is to not take on extra large parties until the team is better prepared to handle it. Overall a good place with an interesting beer list that creates a different experience for ABQ. Its located behind the Spin Cycle.

We love this place! We've eaten there twice and have yet to find anything we don't love. I'd recommend the mushroom soup as it is delicious and unique. There's an excellent selection of beer on tap and in bottles. What I think really sets this place apart besides the menu and great beer selection is the attention they give customers and the atmosphere. From the hostesses to the wait staff to the management- everyone is polite and seems genuinely interested in the dining experience of its patrons. I love a place where you can see management out on the floor, working with wait staff and conversing with customers. Lastly, they do a great job of social media marketing on their website and FB page. They keep them up-to-date, promote great happy hours and specials and legitimately interact with their customers via social media. I like that because not only is it important, but it means they care about our feedback. In a city that is not known for excellent service or vast amounts of unique and delicious food, this place definitely stands out!

I visited Heimat with a friend (it was her second time) and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The Beer List is extensive (and not that expensive, considering the number of imported bottles they offer), and the food is tasty with large proportions. The Sauerbraten is delicious and worth stopping by on the weekends (because they marinate it all week for proper tenderness), and the other dishes we had were good as well. Remember those large portions I mentioned earlier? Remember to take it slow and take home leftovers, because you do not want to miss dessert. Definitely give the Schwartzwälder Kirshtorte (Black Forest Cake) a try; the cherries are properly marinated in brandy and the chocolate is just dark enough without being too bitter. The Restaurant is new, the staff is green, however they're getting better daily. The reviews are getting better as the months go on, so I hold high hopes for this place in future.

My husband and I came here for the first time the other night and it was so good we were trying to decide if going back the next night for dinner was too soon. We had the Pierogies, Bavarian pot roast and the schnitzel. Everything was delicious and the portions were very big. I had the pot roast for lunch the next 2 days that is how much was left over. We will definitely be back soon!

I really like this place. It's solid German and Polish food, wonderful beer selection, and I've never had a problem with service. I'd also like to emphasize what is one of the most interesting beer lists in town. It has an excellent selection of exceptional German and Belgian beers (among others). I suppose if I had one criticism, it is that the beers are fairly expensive. Nonetheless, I definitely recommend this place.

I took a client to lunch at Heimat House today, a new experience for both of us. To have such good food, the place was remarkably quiet (11:00, just opened) and we had an excellent working lunch... but couldn't stop talking about how great the food was. I had the Rosenkohl Salat... absolutely the most unique and delicious salad I've ever had. Beautiful presentation, and the combination of flavors and textures was extremely satisfying... just loved the subtle spicy burn. Definitely want to return and enjoy a leisurely dinner!

I was hesitant to try after reading other reviews but it was time we gave this restaurant a try so we went in. The location is a little odd- located on the end of a strip mall by a laundromat and hot yoga but once we stepped inside the smell takes you away...it smells like comfort food and the decor is inviting as well. We were seated immediately and our server Hazel came right to the table to welcome us and familiarize us with the menus. There are 30 beers on tap and the wine list is impressive as well with options from around the world. We started with the mushroom soup and even though there were more onions than mushrooms the broth was fantastic! We then had the Jäger Schnitzel and Polish Goulash and both meals were superbly prepared. Delivered hot to the table and perfectly seasoned. Keep in mind when ordering - the portions are hefty! We were too full for dessert but after looking at the choices we will be back. One last note: the presence of management checking in with guests and assisting servers was nice to see. Give this new German restaurant a try it's worth it!

Today was our first time eating here and it was fantastic! We will definitely come back! The waitress was very knowledgeable of the menu and very pleasant. We started with a few appetizers, the sausage and the pretzel, both were really good and the dipping sauces were excellent!! I had the flank steak wrapped around pickles, it was cooked perfectly and very tasty. The cabbage was also amazing! To finish I had German Chocolate cake.... By far the best I have ever had! Highly recommended!!

So I have to say that this is the real deal when it comes to German fare in NM. Everything was made from scratch no frozen fries. My Currywurst was amazing. The beer selection rocks.

My spouse and I really enjoyed lunch here. The jaeger schnitzel with fries, the sausages and sauerkraut, the pear, walnut, and cranberry salad, and the Black Forest cake were excellent. The Hungarian mushroom soup had a surprisingly rich taste for an item identified as vegetarian, but its flavor was unfortunately similar to the sauce on the schnitzel. The way dishes were served deserves comment: as with other European restaurants (Cafe Chef Jean-Pierre comes to mind) it is up to the diner to recognize how the flavors of different items on the each plate go together and how to use them. The salad dressing served on the side was boldly mustardy, which was needed to balance the intensity of the onions, but I had to be careful to not use too much, or else the walnuts and cranberries have been overwhelmed. Without the juice from the lemon wedge that came with the schnitzel, that dish would have been dull and one-dimensional. The light sausage and the dark sausage were best appreciated when we had either with both sauerkraut and mustard in the same bite --- together having exciting tastes greater than the sum of their individual parts. Alone, either sausage was bland, and the meatiness of the dark sausage vague. The portions were generous. We were already sated by the time the dessert tray was presented. Since a critical previous reviewer had highly praised the desserts, we took a close look. All were appealing. The Black Forest cake did indeed have a home-made taste, but I was not so sure about the chocolate sauce that had been drizzled on it. We will be back. Next time, I'll try some beer and skip the soup.

Great authentic food, both German and Polish. Start with the perogies, enjoy the schnitzel and stay for the Apple cake. Play dinner roulette and just pick something a random- it's all good.

First night here and the food was wonderful. Our table had a bit of everything and even met the owner who is a true gem. The flavors took me back to my childhood growing up in Butchbach Hessen. The wurst was amazing and the atmosphere was gemutlischkeit. We will comeback more. 4 stars when they have black forest cake!!

every pallet will be happy as long as you ask your local bartender or server and tell them what you like they will find you the right drink to make you be the happiest person of the night. The food can be spicy it can be tasty and filling they've great appetizers in the friendly staff. The atmosphere is very calming and comfortable and it's not too dark like some bars can be.I highly recommend going here because you'll enjoy your time and make sure to go there when you're really hungry so you can try their appetizers their meals as well as their desserts they offer gluten-free chocolate cake for those that have gluten allergies and also have a sweet tooth.

Heimet House is a nice addition to the ABQ restaurant scene. The ambiance is evocative of the European setting with an outdoor beer garden still in process. While I don't care for the five TV sets in the wine/beer bar, it would probably fit the obdurate sports fan. I found the wait staff excellent: helpful, prompt, and pleasant. The food is a step or two above adequate. The portions are overly large--be ready to share or take half home. My sauerbraten had a good flavor, as did the red cabbage. The chef needs to let the meat rest and carve against the grain rather than serving a huge heap of stringy, torn apart portions. The potato pancakes need to be served when still hot and crisp. The dessert tray looked wonderful and all made in house--but who could eat one after the bountiful Entree? Maybe on another visit. In a Bavarian nutshell: a good start; I'll give it another try.

Wow, just read the reviews and I had such a different experience. I was raised in the Okenfuss family with Uncle Maxmillian and cousin Heidi and lineage that dates back a very long way in Germany and pre-Germany. We eat liver dumplings, cabbage and potatoes for mid-morning snacks, so I know my German food and have eaten at countless German restaurants. I understand that this place is relatively new and they're doing a really good job. My host and I ate three entrees between the two of us - the meatballs, the wurst plate and the German style stuffed cabbage. We made sure to get as many sides as we could - the German potato salad, the beets, spaetzle, eggplant salad and kraut. Besides the potato salad that was undercooked and so not edible, the rest was not only edible, but eaten. We both agreed that the meatballs were our favorite, but I sure loved my cabbage rolls - almost as good as my mom's. I had one beer and one reisling (I let the server pick and she did great) and both were good. I wish they would clear out all of the non-German drinks...who gives a crap about an Italian wine at a German restaurant! I wanted to see a cool reisling and gewurtz list. It was OK on the reisling, no gewurtz, but brief. I'm the customer who changed your menu - the reds were on the opening side of the menu and whites on the right - doesn't make any sense-feature what your focus is. But minor gaffs. Our server was very friendly and attentive. Food was good - my host thought everything was underseasoned, and I agreed, but I've always found German food to be underseasoned. None was underseasoned to the point that I added salt, however. We ended the meal with dessert. They brought the tray over and everything looked a bit weary for the end of the dinner service (that's why dessert trays are generally a bad idea), but we opted for the apple cake. It came out hot - I asked if it was oven or micro and the server said she puts it in the oven herself - and it was so damn good! I expected it to be dry and dense, but it wasn't. So moist and light and ... just perfect. Absolutely worth a visit. I hope the embrace their German-ness. That's why people go to these places. We want oompa loompa and leiderhosen and big glasses of heavy beers and wursts and potatoes and .... well, you get it, embrace it and enjoy. And just a note to all of the reviewers who said, "I've traveled to Germany..." So have I for two lengthy visits. This is a German restaurant in America. I don't go to a Thai restaurant and say, "This isn't as good as my meal in Thailand." No shit! Really? Who would have imagined. Your expectations are different. The ingredients are different. The demand for output is different. Its a different experience, so let that go.
