One of the best burger joints in Albuquerque. Kathy's Carryout would be the other standout, but Griff's has a better location. My understanding is that Griff's was a chain burger place from the 1960s and that this is one of only about a dozen left. So, on to the food. The burgers are big and made to order. Not especially juicy, but not terribly dry. That's why only four stars. But the bottom line is that for a plain burger, they beat the pants off all the national chain outlets. They offer singles, doubles, and triple burger sandwiches. They come in regular and giant size. With cheese and green chile is awesome! I'm not a big fan of fries in general (I rarely find them done well, although I have not tried them here), so I order onion rings. The pictures I uploaded show the kind of breading they use. Bottom line, I like them! The onions are not terribly sweet, but good onion flavor. Finally, the chocolate shake. Hmmm. Not a fan. They're okay, but the flavor is overly sweet and kind of artificial. I like the shakes at The 66 Diner better. Evidently, so do other people. 66 Diner is known for their shakes.

Their hambugers, especially their "giant burger" is my favorite in town (among fast food joints). I'd give their hamburgers five stars. They don't drown them in sauce, just a tangy mayonnaise type of dressing. My wife and I drive up from Nob Hill to get these on a regular basis. Their onion rings are also good and get 4 stars. Their shakes the 3 stars, not bad but not special. I dig the old school burger joint nostalgia that is real and not in any way pretentious or artificial. This place is what it is - a greasy burger place through and through. The rest of the food I've tried here I'd give three stars or less. For example, I really don't like their fries. Hence I'm rating the place three stars overall. It's also in a pretty crappy neighborhood. More than a few times I've witnessed drug deals in the parking lot across central while waiting in the drive through.

Best burgers in Albuquerque. Much better than Blake's Lota Burger. I have only been to the location in ABQ - never tried their other locations around the country. But, this place is a hit. Wish they had more locations around town.

I haven't been to Griff's in awhile. This morning I was craving their shoestring fries. While normally I would go all out and get a big combo meal with a huge double cheeseburger today I opted for fries and a firm dog. As always any selection I make is going to be good... While I could have done without the corn dog today my choice and craving for their fries was great! Hot outta the fryer! Satisfying my craving!! Great job Griff's!

I'm not afraid of a good dive joint in a sketchy part of town. This is the best fast food burger in town for my dollar. Staff is always nice, burger is made well, fries are good when fresh (not the kind you can pick at over an hour) and the green chile usually has a good bite. Reason for a missing star? If you eat in the building, you may be subjected to a good amount of panhandling. My wife also doesn't like mayo and I think they've gotten never gotten that right through driveup. It helps to read back orders but that's something we work around by getting out of the car and walking in (novel idea).

Burgers were good, green chile could be hotter and the fries I got were almost cold. We went through the drive thru and the customer service was okay. When we got home we found bugs and ants floating in our drinks, no question about tossing those out. My first visit and may be my last..or I could just get drinks elsewhere, like Sonic..

I really enjoy the burgers there's I always order a double with nachos, I been going there since they were $.99

Yum, yum and yummy! Yes, the place is a dive, but the burgers are classic! Have eaten here since I was a small child and can't wait to go back every time I'm in Albuquerque.

Such an Albuquerque iconic Burger Joint! I've always loved this place and it never disappoints me. Great customer service and great food! Is also a Route 66 neon sign classic.

Wasn't what I was expecting. When we ordered the drinks were made and placed in the tray right away. It took a very long while for the rest of the offer to be ready.... So when we finally sat down with our food our drinks were watered down and out food was all flat. As in it looked like they smashed it down on purpose. Ketchup bottles were extremely greasy as well.

You're either the kind of person who likes the old fashioned, no nonsense ideal of fast greasy American food, or you're not. If you want a taste, not just of the old school... but of the BEST of the old school... a good decadent American burger and fries - in an environment that really is a trip back to a much more real and down to earth America - then please try this. It really is special.

Got the monster combo. The burger was decent but not great, mayonnaise based which I don't prefer. Overall it wasn't anything special. The fries were okay and the extras were frozen and fried galore.

Fanfreakintastic. Seriously. Do you love a good burger? The kind that's real cow, without frufru nonsense, loaded with awesome stuff? This is your spot. I had just a regular cheeseburger because well... how can you go wrong? Perfectly cooked, seasoned fabulously, just the right amount of greasiness to be delicious...and awesome. Will I be back? Yes. It's far from my house, but sometimes you just need an old fashioned hunk of cow in your life, and this will be the go-to spot. It's small, old fashioned, and not fancy... try it. You won't be disappointed.

Griff's has become a close favorite of mine when I'm in the mood to be sloppy-sloppy. My buddy is a semi-connoisseur of fast-burgers, and he mentioned how Griff's has it right. So I, being the foodie I am, decided to give it a whirl. I have yet to look back and regret the day I drove on the premise. The burgers patties seem fairly legit. They have a made that morning kind of taste to them, and don't have that "bought in the freezer section" shape and taste. I've only been daring enough to take down the Giant Cheese Burger but I'm waiting for my appetite to tell me it's time for a Monster. The fries have been tasty, and delicious... just right actually. I'm seeing I need to take down more of the menu, but at the moment, for a fast burger Griff's is my go to and will be if I have the choice. Yeah, it might be in a semi-shady part of the international district, but it's worth the try when you're feeling the need to be sloppy.

The best hamburger ever husband has been coming here for 30yrs. Has anyone else heard this place might be closing?

Wow, this joint is a complete dive, complete with greasy floors and dead flies!!! I had the Chicken sandwich / fries & it was really good!!! I haven't ate here since I was a kid in the 80s!!! Overall, the food was great minus the rundown decor and dirty restrooms!!!!

When you first walk in, you smell that perfect grilled beef smell. The workers are nice and the food came out fast. The grilled bun goes perfectly with a simple burger! The fries were pretty good too. I love that their food tastes like it was made, not reheated. The simplicity makes it best!

So upset. Used to eat there almost every day after work and I asked thembefore I changed schedules, what time they closed and they told me 10 PM. I called them at exactly 9 PM and they said they stopped taking orders over the phone at 9! They lost a customer.

I really like dive restaurants. You can normally find great food. It didn't happen this time. Looking past the flies and the dirty tables, the burger wasn't very good. The patty was over cooked and the burger was just soggy. The fries were fresh but they were just ok.

Want a good burger this is your spot. Place was really good, I gave it 4 stars though since they did screw my order over.

  • James O.

Possibly the best burger in Albuquerque, as a bonus it is very reasonably priced. Yes the burger is greasy and could possibly stop a beating heart, but it is worth rolling the dice. Everything in moderation, right? If you are looking for a fantastic fast food style burger this is the place. The only down side is the location. They have nice patio seating, but it's impossible to sit down and eat out side. Due to the location there are a lot of people asking for spare change. My wife and I tried to eat outside and were asked three times for change. You will likely get asked for change walking to and from your car.

Griff's is a decent place to go for burgers and fries. But it's an outstanding place to go if you want to discern the exact limitations of your ability to ingest grease, have cardiac arrest as soon as humanly possible, or want to straight up brutalize your gastrointestinal tract. Look, I'm not adverse to greasy food, I enjoy a good artery-stiffening burger as much as the next guy, but damn, you could fry up the onion rings in the grease that comes off the burger. Not to mention the fact that each one comes adorned with a hefty dollop of mayo. I ordered the monstrous Monster burger, a triple with cheese, and it was the heaviest meal I remember eating in a long time. If you're not well-practiced in digesting saturated fat, this is a meal you won't forget for some time, if you know what I mean. So are they good? I guess. The patties are decent. They crisp up nicely around the edges, have a fairly rich beef flavor, and get topped generously with lettuce, onions, and tomato. Just don't bother getting green chile. It's extra and really not very good. I'm not even sure it was Hatch, as it tasted a lot more like jalapeno. And if you can't dig mayo on a burger, make sure to ask for none because they seriously slather those things with it. My biggest complaint, though, it that the heat from the burgers melted the cheese so completely it kind of liquefied. Not exactly appetizing. On the other hand, the fries and onion rings were both good, and much less grease-laden than the burgers. For fast food joints, they rate pretty highly. The food is definitely cheap here, but how much you enjoy it is going to depend a lot of your tolerance for high-fat foods. I may have made the food sound atrocious, but it's really pretty decent for its price-point and the staff is really friendly. It's worth a shot, just try to order conservatively and save yourself a stomachache later.

Not sure why everyone raves about this place. The burger was dry, tasteless, and thin, the fries were average and the service is terrible. I think the owner hires people and tells them to be rude to the customers. We were just passing through on our way home but I would never recommended this place to anyone!

This place really reminds me of an old fashion hamburger joint. A delicious burger. There is a McDonalds across the street, I would rather eat here.

Forgot how good the burgers were here.. I had the #2 with bacon added on for 70 cents. Not the most fast but cooked to order,The older women that worked the drive thru this day was very nice .Gave it a 5th star for the free entertainment you get while waiting in the drive thru, were else can you watch a prostitute get picked up and a drug deal go down just feet away from your vehicle..Griffs is in the war zone..Great local burger joint.

The "munchers" are really, really good - Jalapeno, potato, and cheese bites. The rest of the food is just OK. If you go, you gotta try the munchers. The burgers are a good size, but not a lot of flavor and nothing special.

  • John V.

Best burger place in town. Great value, the fries are crispy but not greasy. Thick, juicy burgers. The place is a total hole in the wall, but that's what makes it special. Dine in for a great snapshot of humanity.

Ordered the Double cheeseburger with green chile. It came out to $5.02 which for the money was a great deal. The burger patty itself was flavorful and delicious. The burger was greasy and I would have preferred to know that the burger came with Mayo because I would have asked for it without. Also, there was almost no green chile on the burger, but the chile that I was able to find was hot, which was good. Too bad I had to pay for green chile and got almost none. Overall , the burger itself was good minus the topping issues. The prices are really cheap considering the sheer size and quality. I would absolutely come again and make sure to ask for no mayo and double check that they actually put the green chile on it.

Griff's Burger Bar is a tipical fast food burger joint. It has the old-school-chain- restaurant atmosphere feel to the the place....it kinda reminded me of the fast food place from the movie: "The Toxic Avenger." The burger and fries were ok, but I did like the vanilla milk shake.

  • Ed C.

As I've been on, what seems to be, a fast food binge this week, I decided to give Griff's a shot. I will agree with all the other reviews that note the greasiness of the food - very greasy. But, if given an option, I would much rather visit Griff's than any of those other fast food chains that you can find every 1/4 mile.

  • David L.

Good burgers. Can't tell a whole lotta difference between these and the hundred others like it. The fries are not good. The strawberry shortcake is a nice thing to attempt for a fast food place but it's a failure. It was a wafer with cool whip and frozen strawberries. Not homemade, not fresh. Service was friendly tattoos, piercings not withstanding.

GET IT TO GO OR USE THE DRIVE THROUGH! The burgers are great, portions are big with good prices and decent service. If your craving a big greasy burger with all the fixings (and this is NM so gotta have the green chile) then the Monster Burger will be your fix. The problem here is the location and dining room, it;s very dingy.and kind of ghetto and needs to be more sanitized. The bathrooms are disgusting. That aside the food is great.

Was I at the right place? This burger was neither greasy nor huge. It was however very cheap. I ordered the steak sandwich thinking I could get something not so greasy and fattening but I got a country fried steak instead. It didn't say it was fried so needless to say I was very disappointed. My bf ordered the giant hamburger combo, it had a good charred flavor but nothing to get excited about. Plus the patty was so wafer thin I really expected there to be more. I also did not notice the heavy handed mayo one reviewer pointed out. Perhaps they have changed things around? I'm secretly happy I didn't gain 70lbs leaving this place but also a little misty about having missed out on the best greasiest burger in burque.

I always get the 'Monster' triple patty meal with green chile & I love it! The fries are well salted and the crushed ice in the drinks is refreshing. 3 flaws of this place though, it needs remodeling, flies at times, & filthy dark bathrooms. I always say I'm better off not washing my hands in there. It's that gross. So use the bathroom at home or take your food home. It's a great burger joint though.

If you've not gone to Griffs for lunch take a day and do so. It's situated on Central so there's always something interesting to check out. The burgers are on par or better than Blakes and the munchers are a real treat. Griffs is one of those places that keeps a pretty consistent crew of people, that really makes a difference in the consistency and quality of the food. I would recommend this Griffs to anyone!

Griffs is an institution. I first ran across them in the early 70s. I had come to a birthday party from Chicago. We were a couple of blocks north on Wisconsin. The birthday party kinda got out of control... It ended up going for about 3 months. The guys that were throwing the party had family living down the street, so we visited.. His grandfather was eating green chile stew. We tried a bowl, and it was the hottest green chile that I ever had -- (or since - and I have been eating it for 35 years). We were tenderfeet, and we discussed the merits of the stuff on a hamburger --- The old guy said "go right up the street to Central, they have the best green chile cheeseburger I have ever had". Well, My brother and I went down the street to Griffs. We asked for a green chile cheesburger, the lady said hot or mild? What the heck -- lets try hot -- couldn't be any hotter than the stew we ate the previous day. It was plenty hot, but didn't taste the same. We talked to the lady, and she said, "OH, thats because the HOT chiles are not green chiles -- they are jalapenos". The next day, we came back, and got the "mild". Now we are in the right ballpark. Everything was great! A couple of days later we started tweeking our personal likes and dislikes, and I arrived at "Giant Cheesburger, hold the lettuce, add double green chile". You see, Griffs knows that a hamburger/cheeseburger shouldn't have mustard on it. When I am at Lottaburger, I forget this fact, and always say "S#!t. To this day, Griffs hasn't changed a bit. You still have to ask for mild chiles to get GREEN CHILE. I'm not much of a french fry fan, but I like them at Griffs. The "Giant Cheeseburger Sack Lunch" is perfect. Try them any day, but get there early. City workers, mechanics, geeks from Sandia Labs, soldiers from the base, nursing students.... You name it, they all come to griffs for lunch. Last Friday, a buddy and I decided to meet for lunch at Griffs -- he was delayed and it was noon before we got in the door. Line out the door, standing room only and a howling February wind outside -- we had to head down the street to another burger joint. Try this place once, and you will know why people come back for decades.

The food is exactly what you expect, delicious, but not out of the park. Good quality, Yummy corndogs, good fries. The soda fountain could have had refills, but it is what it is. If you are in the area, looking for a burger, do it up!

Unbelievable! Two days in a row of horrible customer service. Normally from time to time I like coming to Griff's because they have a tasty burger. It's a bit a drive from where I live so it's not something I regularly do. But due to the absolute lack of service I received on 01/11/2013 and 01/12/2013 my best guess is that it will be a very long time before I ever go back. I'll have to allow for plenty of time to pass for their current roster of sub-standard crew members to move on. On both days I went around mid-evening. On 01/11/2013 I ordered a Monster burger combo and waited in line for almost 15-minutes behind the SUV in front of me, the SUV was at the pay window. Griff's didn't look that busy and I don't know if the SUV had a big order but after around 12-minutes I finally got tired of waiting so I drove off without ever reaching the pay window. During the time I waited in line the cashier girl running the drive-through window didn't even interact with the SUV. I have no idea what was going on in there. On 01/12/2013 I went back and went to the drive-though again and the store as a whole was almost empty. Maybe a couple of customers in the dining room eating and no one ordering at the counter. Someone took my order and as they were doing that a van pulled into the parking lot with a woman and a group of teenagers. I didn't think much of it at the time, but I kept looking through the window and I could see the cook's arms and hands in motion making my Monster burger. While he was making my food the cashier guy sent a younger kid out to the lobby to mop the floors. After a short while the cook was done and then I waited, I looked at my watch and I waited, and waited, and waited. While waiting on the group of people the cashier guy looked over at me a couple times but gave no indication that he would be right with me. After about 5-minutes had passed I drove off again with out no one ever coming to the window and taking my money. So my point is this, I don't like being ignored in the manner in which I was and the cashier could have had the kid come back to take my money and give me my food instead of it just sitting there and getting cold. It's a shame that food has to be wasted in this manner but as far as I'm concerned it serves the owner right for allowing his employees to treat customers this way. So Griff's may have a tasty burger but it's not worth the drive if I have to put up with this complete lack of customer service.

Wow, this burger joint has to be one of the best in NM by far. My only other favorite place to get burgers is at the recently opened Jack in the Box. This burger joint takes you back to a simpler time, but the quality is awesome. I'm originally from California and this is about the closest I am going to get to In n Out! The restaurant or the part of town its in seems sketchy, but the burgers are awesome! Enjoy!

I love the taste of the food, which means it's not good for you to eat; however, I will not stop eating here. I just wish they could do a better job controlling the flys in the place.

if you want fast great food with a small price. then this is the place for you. but the only draw back is the workers. they are not friendly at all. they look like they all hate there jobs and lives. but this place is great. its way better then in & out, carls jr, burger king, and many others out there. if i could, i would come here every weekend. if you have free time and dont wanna cook go here.
