A run for the border was in order. So drop the Chalupa and read! I grew up on eating TB as a kid in the 60's & 70's so I still got a soft spot for her in my heart. So from time to time hit this TB as its one of the newer better cleaner ones! Although the old mission style TB's are cool too. So I went to try some new TB offerings. And I would have made Glen Bell proud! FOOD ORDERED: Chicken Soft Taco yelp.com/biz_photos/aOym ... Big Meal box ... Includes Doritos Taco, Burrito Supreme, Beef Taco yelp.com/biz_photos/aOym ... FOOD TASTE: Chicken Soft Taco ... Not a bad $1.29 choice, add green sauce 3.5***Stars Big Meal box ... The standout here is the Doritos Taco with its full bodied taste and its own holster to make sure it stays intact. yelp.com/biz_photos/aOym ... 4****Stars. Taco & Burrito Supreme 3*** Stars But did you know that Taco Bell was the base of a much larger fast food tree? Founder Glen Bell started up much like several other of the big chains with a hot dog stand Bell's Drive In, in San Bernardino the home of the MCDONALD Brothers who's started a year later. He almost left the business in 1956 selling his stand, but quickly started another selling hot dogs but this time he added chili dogs. The chili would later morph in to the taco sauce of today. He was one to experiment and soon was selling tacos with his pre- made shells, the first to do so. The tacos took off fast. Soon he was ready for the then named Taco Tia #2 in Barstow. So he promised young Ed Hackbarth that he would eventually lease the stand to him if he would move out to Barstow and run it. Ed took over the stand, and later was to build many more as the founder of DEL TACO. The Tacos took off fast and Glen added 3 more in San Bernardino, Redlands, the next 2 years. But when Glen's partner Ed was not in favor of expanding Taco Tia into Los Angeles, Glen sold him his interest in the restaurants. And about that time he talked John Galardi a friend into venturing out on his own and Glen's wife Martha Bell, provided a name for the new enterprise, "DER WEINERSCHNITZEL," and helped John develop the menu. Starting over once again in 1958 Glen partnered up with others to form the EL TACO chain, it was very successful with its flagship in Long beach and 7 more opening within 9 months. But Glen wasn't satisfied and sold the EL TACO's to his partners in 1962. He then went on to open the first TACO BELL in Downey. He sold 40 shares for $100ea to family and soon was opening more restaurants and in 1969 the shares were split 30000 to 1 as TACO BELL went public. It continued to prosper and grow and by 1978 the store had amassed to a whopping 868. It was at this time that Bell sold the business to PEPSI CO who later added PIZZA HUT and KFC to spinoff GLOBAL FOODS later to become YUM FOODS a company worth billions. FUN FACTOIDS: *In 1977 the first international T. B. opens in Guam. *1984 T. B. replaces its original mission-style restaurants. Drive-thru windows are also installed. *1992 T. The fish tacos are the beer-battered bomb and along with the slaw mixture they add & sauce all wrapped up in a nice warm corn tortilla =Yum!! Also be sure to try the highly caloric straw-shake ...if I keep this up no boys be comin to my yard Oh! & the straw-lemonade! I'm salivating as I type this & just had it!

For a fast food, Americanized taco place, the food wasn't bad. It's comparable to Taco Bell, but I'd say that the ingredients were a little fresher. I was worried after previous reviews, and although the food was definitely not superb, it was just fine. I tried a hard taco, a cheese quesadilla (which was a little oily) and I tasted a bite of an Epic Fajita burrito.

Real unadulterated beef in the tacos, unlike the protein remix at Taco Bell that leaves me with indigestion every time!! The folks were friendly, efficient and the food was hot, fresh and made to order. What else can you ask for of a fast food taco diner??? Highly recommend for that late night snack or a quick meal. Just don't forget to ask for the jalapeños and or hot sauce as they don't always remember to ask you... Go and enjoy!!!
