Good atmosphere, good food, wait staff are a little slow but friendly. Great outdoor patio!!!

Salsa was super hot this last time I went - but very yummy!!! Had the coconut margarita too - that was delish. All in all, Casa De Benavidez is consistent and had great customer service. I love that they have the take out area as well. If I don't feel like having a sit down meal, I can grab some food to go. This is one of our go-to spots.

I love the Casa and stop each time we are in town. The salsa is hot and the green chili sauce is delicious. The sopapillas are hot and fluffy and wonderful. The papayas are excellent, also. I am particularly fond of the chile rellenos. The food is good quality and freshly prepared. The interior patio is lovely on a winter night.

Waitress was nice and kept my coffee refilled. Chile is hot and flavorful. Prices are a little high, but there is a nice atmosphere and patio in the summer. Show up before 11 for $5.99 huevos rancheros on the weekends.

We came here the day we arrived, and after going to the Balloon museum, so we were starving as we had not eaten since very early that morning, and had a flight delay. Sitting in the back patio was the needed respite as it was beautiful and peaceful. Flowers surrounded a small pond full of goldfish. We got the combo plates and were given one small complimentary piece of BBQ rib. That rib was so delicious that we later checked the take-out next door to see if we could get some to go! Great introduction to one of many Sopapillas to come.

Look. I haven't lived in Albuquerque for long and have no intention of staking my claim in the "best chile" debate. I like chile. Red AND green. K? And I really like Casa de Benevides (I especially like saying the name over and over, really fast. Try it. It's fun). Having eaten here a few times, I am now ready to offer you all the following- Go for the Carne Adovada, mes amis! Tender, smokey, a lovely heat that expresses itself subtly, yet ya know it's there at the end- delicioso! Probably the best red chile around- ha! I've sampled other dishes and found them to be tasty, albeit typical New Mexican, and, thankfully, no orange cheesy glop on every item. Wassup with THAT concept? Unfortunately, the biggest drawback is the inside dining. Kinda cold, cavernous and devoid of happy energy. Sad. But the outdoor patio is just fab! On a warm evening, with the lovely foliage all around, music playing and one of their yummy margs, it makes for a delightful evening out. I leave you all to continue the chile debate as I stuff my face with Carne Adovada and pay no mind...

I visited this restaurant based on other yelp reviews. It was excellent! It doesn't have alot of ambiance, but I'm more about the food anyway. I had beef and chicken enchiladas with rice and beans. Also had guacamole with my chips and salsa. 4 stars all the way around! (and my waiter was very friendly as well, which is always important for a Southerner)

This is one of the restaurants that we have to go to every time we are in Albuquerque. They make the most wonderful, crispy chile rellenos. You can get them filled with chicken and cheese, but I prefer the classic rellenos filled only with cheese. I recommend that you get the chile sauce on the side not only because of the how hot the chile is, but also so that they stay crispy throughout. I prefer the green chile sauce, but red is available also. Crisp sopapillas with a tender, pillowy center are included with the meals. We always request that they bring them at the end of the meal so we can enjoy them for dessert.

We ate in the sunroom/patio area which was nice. The service was ok as was the food. There was live music, but we were sitting right next to the guitarist and it was a bit too loud for comfortable conversation. I'm sure the other tables were probably ok, but since we were so close... They have plenty of seating and the wait staff is friendly. It looks like it might be a good place to come to for the patio, so we'll be back for that in the summer.

Had lunch yesterday with a friend - fabulous - the food was fast and very fresh, and the service was excellent. We only had to wait about 10 min. for a table on the enclosed patio, and listened to Hector Pimental play guitar. We both had the Huevos Rancheros w/ Christmas (both red & green chile). The typical sides that come with this are frijoles (beans) and papas (potatoes). The beans were creamy but not completely pulvarized, the potatoes were hasbrowns and very crispy - yum! The red chile had a depth of flavor to it without being greasy or burned. The eggs were cooked to perfection. Only wished we had been served sopapillas with our meal, as is customary, but totally excusable.

Excellent Mexican food. The salsa was not too hot. I got a combination with the rib. The rib was outstanding. The rice was ok and seemed to be the same as other places. The beans were great. This is a big step up from Sadie's for sure.

Great New Mexico food!! The Old fashion enchilada were great, and don't forgot to top it with an egg. The house Margarita was great!

No complaints about the food. But the service on 1/2/15 was horrible. Part of our order never came...despite us asking the waitress about it multiple times throughout the meal. She repeated that it was coming. Our waitress disappeared towards the end of the meal and when she came over to bring our check she just giggled when she remembered that she completely forgot about us and our order. She asked if we still wanted it... only when we were finished and our drinks hadn't been refilled for ages. We just wanted out of there. Never again.

Atmosphere and scenery was quite lovely! I ordered the chicken enchilada/carne adovada combo...my husband had the taco, tamale, chicken enchilada and carne adovada!!! Both meals were excellent! The green chile was amazing and to top it all off-sopapillas!!! Fluffy pillows of goodness. If you have the chance to go, GO!

Overall, this place gives off a good vibe - the design is nice, they have a bar and patio, the menu has a small variety and the pricing isn't bad. I love the sopapilla burger! We've been here a few times for breakfast and lunch and for some reason we always seem to get sort of forgotten about - orders are sometimes wrong or missing pieces, we'll sit for a long while before someone checks on us or notices an empty glass and when they're busy, patience is a virtue. Service is a big thing for me, no matter how good the product is, hence the 3 stars.

I'm a little biased when it comes to Casa B's. It's nostalgic for me. Growing up we didn't get to eat out very much....I take that back we NEVER got to eat out. Casa B's was the first place I ever ate out at with a friend of mine and her family. The green chile stew is still the same great blend of flavor and heat (from the chile). Every time I go I struggle to resist the sopas (sopapillas) that are just ridiculously warm and fluffy every time. I have always enjoyed their flauta plate and if you know flautas, you know that it's just plain annoying to have all the shredded meat come out with the first bite- you also know that the right amount of crunch in the tortilla is necessary! Well, Casa B has never disappointed me in this area either. During the summer, their outdoor patio is just the spot to enjoy one of their lovely margaritas. So if what you're looking for is just some no nonsense, finger-lickin good New Mexican/Mexican food...Casa B's is your destination.

Is it chile inside or is it just me? (Notice I spelled chile the right way). This is only the second time that I have dined here, but I am nonetheless still content about the quality and authenticity of their NM food. This place has some of the best chile that I have ever had. Everything from the salsa to the green chile sauce that drenched my stuffed sopapilla was amazing. Now I will say though that if you are not a fan of good, hot NM chile, this place may not be for you. I love hot, flavorful chile and this is exactly what casa de benavidez serves. The prices here are a bit steep which is the only downside. But hey, I'd rather pay a little extra to these local businesses than chain restaurants anyway. Overall, casa de benavidez is one of, if not, the best NM Food restaurants in the state. I highly recommend it.

This was my first trip to the restaurant, and unfortunately it'll be my only one. When I'm in a new restaurant that serves new Mexican food, I always get fajitas because I figure how can a screw that up? Well here's how they screwed them up at Casa de Benvidez: they overcooked the beef so there was no trace of moisture left, and then they serve them with tortillas that were cold and hard. I was very disappointed, but not surprised because the overwhelming majority of reviews here on yelp said much the same.

I got take out Sunday. Five stuffed sopapilla burgers made every body sick. Old cheese sopapilla hard the fries not fresh. from the morning. I called them their manger on vacation. They think I was lying. Bad attitude Paula. they should rename the place.Casa De merida.

We really, truly wanted to like this place, since we had heard about this place and had never been there before, but some things were just not right about our experience. From the moment we opened the door and walked in, the strong smell of bathroom disinfectant wafted from the restaurant, for some reason. Not a pleasant first scent. Then there was a sign asking us to wait for a hostess to seat us but there was none to be found. We waited a while until we asked if we could seat ourselves, and someone came by to seat us. Later on we noticed other people getting chips and salsa, but we were never offered any until, after some time of waiting for chips to come, we asked for some. Also, we noticed the prices were quite high for even such things as a cheese quesadilla off the kids menu, yet the taste of the food didn't justify the high price tag. One of us ordered a combo meat plate, but the order got mixed up.....no meat, so it had to be remade. By the time the new order came none of us were hungry anymore, and having brought an out of town guest, we felt somewhat disappointed at all the things that were off that day. While our server was very accomodating and nice in trying to fix the food mixup, and our water glasses never went empty, the overall (service/ambience/food) restaurant experience was not that great. I don't think we'll be going back again, sad to say.

I came to Casa De Benavidez because I was told how amazing this place is. When we first walked in we were greeted and sat down but after that we were ignored for about 20 minutes. A table that was sat after us was already getting there food by the time a waiter came around. The funny thing was you can see all the waiters and bartenders talking and having a grand ol time at the bar so that really ticked me off. As far as there food goes thier chips and salsa is excellent and the chile is spicy! I really enjoyed there green chile as it was very flavorful. I also ordered there combo plate which had a little bit of everything but I really wasn't to impressed by the food and especially for 16 bucks a plate. The food was pretty bland and it all tasted the same. Other people I was with had the chicken fajitas and enchiladas and they all agreed the food was pretty mediocre. I also tried a few of there margaritas and that was just a shame so don't even bother with the margaritas as they taste watered down. Overall there are way better places to eat. Do your self a favor and drive a little bit up the road to Bruno's or Sadie's if your looking for some good New Mexican food.

Sorry, I think I've had enough here after several visits. The service was mediocre again, the food was not that great. The spiciness of the food completely overwhelmed any other favors that you might want to experience (and I love a good spicy meal). The queso was gross and extremely pricey ($7); it was like stadium style nacho cheese. Really? I expect so much more from a place that boasts the best New Mexican food anywhere. Senior Benavides is probably rolling over in his grave! However, the sopapillas were excellent!

  • Z C.

My first time eating in New Mexico and the chips & salsa and sopapillas were my favorite! I ordered the "Build your own platter" with the two items of a tamale and the Carna Adovada with rice & papitas and it was ok...wasn't too impressed but the red sauce was flavorful and spicy. The only major issue was the service...we waited and waited and ended going on a scavenger hunt for our server.

This place is pretty good. It is a nice place to go if you are dining with a larger party because the interior is great. Now at Christmas time the decorations are beautiful and it just gives you a pleasant eating atmosphere. The food is pretty good, but a somewhat pricey. I enjoyed the green chile stew and my other family members enjoyed their burgers and chicharones burrito. However, the waitstaff is mediocre (on the downside). As a side note it is nice to sit outside or the enclosed patio area during the warmer months. Try it out! You may like it.

I was told by a native Albuquerquen to stop by. I did. It was good. Very comparable to Sadie's or Garcia's, except for the price. Going to give it $$. As for the food, I ordered the red three-enchilada pate with an egg on top. It was good. Would rather have had beans instead of potatoes. Did not order the queso. Always ask for a sample in case it is canned. It seemed that way. Daughter had chiclet strips. Pricey, but they were delish. Overall, a solid New Mexican restaurant. Four stars. P.S. Always remember to tell waiter/waitress to hold off on sopapillas until you're done with the meal ... Then you get them hot! Tastes great with honey!!

  • Ashley W.

Being a native New Mexican, I've definitely had my fair share of NM food & green chile. I've given Casa several tries now, and each time I'm just not that impressed. I'm not saying it's horrible food, I have just had better. I've been here for lunch, breakfast and dinner, and each time has just been mediocre. The past few times the service hasn't been the best. It has taken a long time to get our check, order or waters refilled. However, they do have a great little patio and I'd def recommend it as a nice place to have a margarita or an appetier in the summertime! Decent place, but NOT my top pick for the best New Mexican food in Albuquerque.

We came here after a long day of moving from California and it was awesome! Really peaceful setting and unique atmosphere. We got lost going somewhere else and we were really happy we found this place instead! Jesse S was our server and he gave me great advice on what to try- chicken cheese chile relleno and it was really good. The sopapillas with honey are awesome!! (I think that's what they were called)

Never EVER going back again. Have been going for YEARS (since 1991) but 4 of our last 5 visits have been horrible. The food is good, tragically, but the attitudes of the owner and the Cafe person suck. We have visited the cafe with a large group and were told we couldn't scoot the tables together when the place was largely empty. There were other instances of rude attitude that we ignored because it's convenient and the food was good. But today another large group (clearly acquainted with the cafe guy) had tables scooted together. If you have to have a stupid rule, stick with it. When we asked for Salsa with our order the cafe man said, "for what?" We answered that we preferred Salsa with our Breakfast (Burrito and Carne Adovada). He responded, "well, it's .25. Do you still want it?" Duh, asshole. We live in NM and we want some Salsa. It's already stupid that you charge for it (we don't live in France) but the rude query about what we need it for? Really? GOOD BYE Casa De Benavidez. We are absolutely DONE.

The patio is lovely, and the pitchers of Margaritas are a great value. We usually order a shot on the side since we really enjoy our tequila! We appreciate the daily specials along with great pricing. The regular menu at dinner is a little overpriced especially since beans and rice cost next to nothing.

  • Wes T.

The best part of this place is the big patio. When good weather is happening in ABQ, it's a fantastic way to enjoy a meal. They also have some koi swimming around in a little pond, good times. We ordered the fajita dinner for two, which they were nice enough to split between chicken and beef. As far as fajitas go, it was pretty standard stuff, but these ended up being a little greasier than usual. Not bad, but nothing special. Service was OK. I did like that they have beer on tap, which is, again, nice when you're out on the patio.

This was the first time my husband have been here. As we walked in we were greeted right away. I notice the specials grn chile stew, menudo, and posole...yum. We were sat by the patio windows. It was a little chilly so I kept my sweater on and ordered hot tea. Waitress was very nice and kinda funny. My hubby ordered the sangria, which he wasn't a fan of (it's the bottled stuff). The chips an salsa came and it was yummy. I ordered the deluxe nachos and the hubby had a combo plate. Both were really good. He had carne adovada. Which was delicious. i was very surprised because I'm very picky when it comes to New Mexican food. Sopas are yummy too. I recommend this place

We were guests at a wedding where both the ceremony and reception took place here. The service was very attentive and every one (34 of us) thought the food was great, with all but 2 of us being New Mexico natives. The stuffed so papillae were a special treat, mine with beef fajitas and my wife's with carne adovada. Several in-laws work nearby and have lunch there regularly so selecting this restaurant for the special day was an easy decision. Enjoy!

The Chips and Salsa are ranked #5 by Albuquerque Magazine, so we decided to take a visit to Casa De Benavidez. Just as ABQ Mag said, the salsa definitely "has a kick" but is yummy and served with warm chips. Walking in, the restaurant is fine, nothing fancy, but nothing unacceptable. There is a patio and an indoor/covered area next to the patio, which is inside, but overlooks the outdoor waterfall, pond and greenery. We sat in that area. It was a pleasant surprise to see this type of landscape in the middle of Albuquerque. There was entertainment there too! A guitar player cranking out some peaceful evening tunes. The food is good, especially if you like HOT. The green chile is a kick in the pants for sure. Hotter than most, in our opinion. We ordered "build you own" platters with Tamales, Chicken Tacos, Cheese Enchiladas, Chicken Enchiladas and Rice, Beans and Papitas. The sopaipillaa were also some of the more fresh and well-cooked we've had. You can tell Casa De Benavidez cares about the food they deliver to your table. Everything was tasty. Also ordered the Santa Fe Margarita, super good, I had to order another. Next time, I'd love to try the famous Sopaipilla Burger and I'm pretty definite there will be a next time.

I have eaten here two or three times and wasn't that impressed (I would go to Sadie's for heat/quantity & price - with El Pinto for outdoor seating/atmosphere) - but last night I was told to try the Carne Adovada which was fantastic. I had the burrito/christmas/papitas (which needed cooking more) and beans - this really was the best Carne Adovada I have had.

  • Ashley E.

This is another one where I had to take a star away for price paid for overall experience. $3 for a diet coke and $2 for a tiny side of green chile sauce? I think not. The patio setting is really nice and the food wasn't bad...but if they are trying to compete with El Pinto, they better up the quality of their food to match their high prices. I probably won't be back.

I ate at Casa de Benavidez, for the first time, on December 14 with four friends. They served the best posole I've ever eaten in my life. Beautiful Christmas décor and a fine, live guitarist made for a lovely holiday celebration.

The north valley institution is a particularly great place to enjoy New Mexican favorites al fresco. Large patio with water feature and lush garden is a great treat on a fresh summer morning or sultry evening. Great food, friendly staff.

July 2014: I've decided to change their rating to 2 stars from 1. I haven't gone back and don't intend to, but they really don't deserve 1 star. I'm not at all impressed with the food, but the service was okay (just okay) and the setting is nice. ******** Original review: With all of the good New Mexican restaurants in Albuquerque, why would you ever come here? Oh, maybe to give it a try, like we did. The atmosphere was nice, sort of reminiscent of El Pinto, but the food was yuck. I had some sort of combo and it came with a BBQ spare rib, oddly. That was okay, but the green chile was no good, the salsa was blah, and the red chile was gross. My husband was duly disappointed by the carne adovada and even my daughter didn't like her burrito. My son had breakfast, hard to go wrong there, and he ate it. The portions are huge, but the place isn't cheap, so I suppose you get what you pay for quantity-wise, but not quality-wise. My friends and family always turn up their noses when I've suggested trying this place. Now I now why. Not going back and not taking guests there.

Great food and atmosphere. Loved the spicy carne adovada!! Found on Yelp as #1 and it deserves the spot.

usually get the carne lunch burrito or jumbo sopapilla burger, depends on where I'm heading........... going into work, carne lunch burrito ( lunch burrito is carne only, breakfast carne burrito has eggs potato and what not ) i don't eat the torilla but .............. going by for lunch or dinner , jumbo sopapilla burger ( this item is not on menu, twice the size of normal burger only 60 cents more ) eat half, save half all of these from the to-go side, Mike is great...........never been in the restaurant.....

Felt like I was getting scammed the whole time I was there. They put a charge on your meal if you ask for an extra plate. I mean, an empty plate to split up my 4 item combo! (Not piping hot by the way). Its in fine print on the menu. When you get your bill, its not itemized but added to your meal charge. Its a bit ridiculous, I cannot think of a single restaurant I have been to from SFO to New York to Barcelona that does such a thing. We all had Margaritas and spent enough for the restaurant to make a good profit, but I felt like the waitress was scamming us as she would ask "and an extra plate with that". Also when one of our party asked for fajitas, she asked if we would like the regular order or the large one for 2. She didn't tell you that the large one for 2 was $38.00! Plus another $1.50 for the extra plate! Service was inattentive like others have mentioned and the place and staff did not seem happy. Probably they were burnt out on explaning why each menu item on the bill was higher than the menu prices due to extra plate charges. Thankfully, I had known all about these hidden charges from the time I was there last year. And now I am reminded why it took me so long to go back. Will not be going there again. I mean was I supposed to calculate my tip for the $4.50 extra charges I had for the 3 extra plates?! And was I paying sales tax for this? And was the restaurant paying sales tax to the city for the charging they were doing for empty extra plates? May be a little tax evasion going on here...

I gave them 4 stars for their green chile stew, chicken fajita tacos, outdoor patio during the warmer months and that they allow us to have long business meetings without ordering a meal (we order appetizers). They have the best green chile stew in town. However, beware it is HOT. Have your tissues readily available.

We've had lunch and dinner here many times in the past. I finally came around to write a review. The food has always been great. The taste is great, the hotness of the chili is great, and the salsa compliments everything really well. We chose to sit outside during this visit. The pond, plants and the waterfall made the experience a great one. After reading many reviews there seems to be a huge issue with the service. The service here is very slow. I'm the type of customer to tip 20% or more, as long as they keep our drinks filled, and check on us as often as possible. Our waitress only visited our table 3 times. Once to get our order, 2nd bring our drinks, and then bring our food. The time between the food order and it being served was good. For some reason, our waitress didn't interact with us the way she should've. Definitely 3 stars for the food, but 1-2 for the service. This establishment has been around for years. It's maintained well, clean and famous. They need to work on the service portion.

We were trying to think of a nice place to hang out on a beautiful Friday evening and Case de Benavidez came to mind. They have one of the nicest patios in town. We both ordered the "make your own" platter with one item. I had the chile relleno with beans and papitas. It was fine, it had yellow cheese in it, I prefer white Mexican cheese, the sauce was good. The margaritas were wonderful. Usually I have the veggie fajitas, which are tasty and enough food for two people, I just wasn't that hungry. I guess I'll go back to that next time.

One word describes this place. Spicy. The salsa and green chili is so good I purchased three jars to take home

The service was excellent last night. The green chili was like fire. Our waiter was extremely attentive to our need. The only area needing improvement......the area of the dining room that we sat in was very drafty and cold from the doors leading to the patio area. Maybe seal them off for the fall/winter?

Excellent atmosphere. Weather permitting, eat outside. Very nice patio. Breakfast menu is a little limited. All items taste good. Lunch and dinner is very good. I have been a few times and enjoyed each entree very much. Refills on the beverages were slow. Pass on the Margarita. Just not very good. Service was friendly and food was served piping hot.

AMAZING! 5 solid stars. Ever since I moved to Colorado 2 years ago..I've developed a nasty habit for green chile. I got the chance to finally visit New Mexico, and the first thing on the agenda was to find an amazing New Mexican restaurant. We had locals take us here. What can I say, this place was tops. We enjoyed a nice fall evening on the big patio. I ordered the chicken enchiladas christmas since I wanted to try both the green and red chile. I was not a fan of the red-it had some smokey undertones to it. I'm not big on red to begin with but I did want to try it anyways. However, the green chile was fantastic! And both were about the same consistency of heat, which I loved! I loved the green chile so much that I purchased a jar of it when I left for $5! BF got the sopapilla burger that this place made famous. I love the sopapillas! And on a burger, it was that much more amazing. Oh and every meal comes with a sopapilla on the side. Don't forget the honey! Definitely recommend this place if you are looking for decent, affordable NM cuisine.

YAY!!! I love adding stars to previous reviews. Casa earns it's 5 stars without even breaking a sweat. Paula, one of the owners, not only treated us like old friends but makes the very best margaritas...hands down. Our server for lunch was so friendly and just spot on. Little details like leaving a pitcher of ice water/iced tea on our table, adding some ice to our margarita glasses & being extremely attentive to our party of 6 just added to our fabulous family lunch. Sopapillas were even better than I had recalled. Light & airy and no awful residual grease taste. Beautifully prepared and perfect to be stuffed with chicken, red chili & cheese.....Delicious. Love you 'Casa'. Can't wait to see you again upon our next visit to "The Land Of Enchantment."

This place is awesome! Great date atmosphere, and the food is super tasty. I had the Sopiapilla with Carne Adovada and Green Chile. The Sopiapilla was pretty mushy, but the overall effect was delicious! My buddies had the Chimichanga, which was plated much better, and looked great! Highly recommend!

I went once for lunch a while back and everything was really good, but we also split a pitcher of margaritas (delicious) so I'm not sure I remember the details too well ;-) I went again recently for breakfast. Before the main restaurant opens, there's a little "cafe" entrance around the back for takeout, but they also have a very laid back little dining area. My boyfriend and I went and ordered breakfast enchiladas and huevos rancheros, and it was awesome! It was actually less expensive than the regular restaurant and the chile was incredibly tasty.

For quite some time, one of my colleagues had been bringing in breakfast burritos on occasion from Casa de Benavidez. I so fell in love with them that I had to actually make a visit to the establishment, despite the fact that it is WAY the hell out to the north. Anyway, once there, I could not even imagine ordering anything but the breakfast burrito I had come to so adore. It is even better in the restaurant! (When you get it in the restaurant, it is smothered - to go, it is not.) The chile here is outstanding - super spicy, as I like it. I am not a native New Mexican, and thus I wondered if my fondness for this place was skewed from the Californian perspective. However, my boyfriend, who is a local, came with me and liked it as much as I do. This place is fantastic. My only complaints: 1. Too cold inside. I was shivering, and I also don't like it when my food gets cold quickly. 2. Kind of pricey for what it is, in my opinion. Close to $10 is too much to spend regularly for a breakfast burrito. It's a once in a while type of deal. However, the burrito itself is big enough to qualify for more than one full meal. Or just one full meal for a small family. ;)

Typical New Mexican restaurant. I enjoyed their carne adovada, it was flavorful and spicy enough. I only gave 4 stars because although I really enjoyed it there are a lot of restaurants in the area I have tried that are very similar and offer the same food that is either as good or a little better. It wont keep me from visiting this place again. Overall, I enjoy their food and the service is good too.

Best New Mexican food I had during my 1 year stay in ABQ, and was my go-to place to indoctrinate out-of-staters to SW cuisine. Stuffed sopapillas? Yes. Carne adovada? Yes! Hot, but not too hot, chile rellenos? Yes!!! Everything in this place is good (and I've had most everything on their fairly expansive menu), and the staff has always been great. A+++ PS: I was a vegetarian when I moved to ABQ, and I got my first few sopapillas stuffed w/ veggies (not on the menu, but if you ask, they will do it). It should also be noted that almost everything here is cooked in some sort of animal product (as is pretty much everything in NM), so there's not a 'true' veggie option.

This place is pretty awesome. The patio is super cute even if it wasn't open and ready for use. I have not had good Mexican food (unless I'm cooking) since I moved to Nevada 11 years ago. I'm visiting some friends here in NM and the only real thing to do on the agenda is Mexican food. My friend said this was the place and she was not kidding. I had stuffed sopillas with ground beef and red chile. Perhaps my taste buds have become wussafied cause this stuff was pretty hot. I powered through it and ate every bit of it. The refried beans were yummy and the rice was just ok. The price was right.. I just wish I had a chance to go again before I left. Can't wait to get back to the motherland and come back here again.

This is quite possibly the worst restaurant I have eaten at in Albuquerque. We mentioned to the waitress that one of the dishes was not as described and the owner/ chef with a very long beard and generally disheveled appearance came out and became almost combative. The food is very ordinary and agree with other reviews that is quite overpriced. Agree with other reviews, the food is disgusting, oh that it were just blah. Go to Sadie's for great food, El Pinto for great food and ambiance and Sandiago's for great food and views!! Skip Casa, please!!

We were passing through Albuquerque and saw this place in Yelp. The food was excellent, as was the atmosphere. As we were seated, a classical Spanish guitarist was playing while we ate. I dined on the carne adovada, which was moist, tender and nicely spiced - a little spice without being overbearing, rich and full of flavor. The service was prompt and courteous, and the food appeared very quickly. Although it was too cold out this time, there is also a nice patio for outdoor dining. I will definitely stop by again when in the area!

we came on a friday night; lots of empty tables inside but we wanted to sit on the patio so we waited at the bar about 20 min. until an outside table was available. menu is on pricier side; hard to find something for under $10, most entrees around $13. there's a build your own entree option where you can pick from a list of items on the menu; i think it's like a build your own sampler platter. there's also a sampler platter for 2 that's $30 and comes with a ton of stuff (chile relleno, enchilada, etc.). i ordered the chunky beef sopapilla, which was smothered in HOT green chile, hotter than what i usually find in restaurants around here. the refried beans + rice that came with it were mediocre, but the sopapilla + meat tasted fresh. my partner ordered chicken chile relleno, which he liked, but could only finish half of. there was live music, which was not so great, but i'm picky about music stuff, so maybe other ppl liked it. i'd come back if it weren't so expensive, but i ended up feeling like i was paying for the decor- fountain on the patio, wall decorations, live music, etc. i'd rather pay less to eat good food at a dive.

we were in Albuquerque for one evening and chose 'Casa' from a 'Yelp' review; So glad we did , the food was delicious and the atmosphere fun. many thanks to Margie from the 'Casa' who went out of her way to return an item that had been left at the restaurant. that's hospitality!

Came here over the holidays. Seems like you have different camps supporting the 3 major new mexican restaurants on 4th street. Have been to El Pinto and Sadie's so wanted to try this place out. Food was solid and reasonably priced. Waiter was very attentive. Decor was standard new mexican adobe. The only reason that I did not give this place 4 stars is that the hostess was lost. There was a wait and she did not seem to be able to handle her responsibilities. She seated parties with identical numbers out of order from which they arrived and was absent from the front desk for long periods of time.

got to be honest , did not expect alot from this place. Great patio and beyond excellent service. Food was awesome and a good variation on the typical new mexican fare. Reasonable prices but man the service was some of the best I have ever had. Very comprehensive menu. Clean , subtile and will be back for sure. check it out.

Quality has dropped off significantly yet pricing continues to increase. Not a good place to take the kids if you're looking for value in a family meal. You're better off driving south to Sadies for a good Mexican meal.

Where do I start with this place. I guess I should first start out saying I am a server in a new Mexican restaurant, so I know my NM food! The thing that bothers me about this place is at one point in time i really liked it. But after each visit it gets worse and worse. After this last visit, it will be my last. My girlfriend and I brought a friend with us this time, we said it was a good place to eat. Lets start with our server.. you are a rude piece of shit! If your having a bad day, don't take it out on us.. We didn't do anything!!! Just cause you cant get our drink order right of 2 waters and 1 tea.. is a problem in itself.. don't give us attitude when we correct you. How about asking if i wanted something to the bar? I was waiting for you to ask, when you came to my table to drop of the "right" drink order. You ran away so fast i couldn't even ask you for a margarita! so i waited.. How about ask if we wanted a appetizer? We did, once again you ran away too fast! You finally came back to our table and rudely asked, "are you going to order?" really dude.. at this point I'm about ready to knock your bad attitude out of your face! I was pissed!! anyways.. enough about loser server dude.. Our food was here!! I ordered the carne adovada burrito plate.. it was horrible!! it was swimming in chili!! (both red & green) don't get me wrong, I LOVE CHILI!!! I couldn't even taste the carne adovada! All I can taste is that horrible tasting chili.. I didn't ask for soup!! whatever I ate it. In the meantime of trying to get through the soup burrito all of our drinks were empty! Our server never checked on us. walked by our table looked at our empty drinks and once again.. ran away. It got so bad, the guest that we brought had to get up and find the pitchers of tea and water and refill us!! that's just horrible!! thanks for nothing Casa De Benevidez!! all I got was bad service, bad food, and $75.00 out of my bank account for this experience!!

Perfect breakfast burrito. Except for the $1.50 to add cheese.

I was born and raised in Albuquerque and for the most part always gotten my fix for New Mexican food here. However, there are times that I go some where else and always, I mean always, I say, not as good as Casa Benavidez. This place rocks when it comes to the food. One thing I will say, their margaritas are way watered down. They definitely need help in this department but you can always order mexican beer.

Large, beautiful outdoor seating/patio with gorgeous plants, flowers & waterfalls/pond. Sit outside if you can. I had the carne adovada stuffed sopapilla plate....delicious! My husband had the huevos rancheros and said they were really good. Service was great. My only complaint was the $8.25 for guacamole & chips (not worth that price) and $3.00 each for a orange juice and diet coke (free refills, though). The rest of the menu items are reasonably priced. Will go back for sure on my next visit to ABQ.

I love New Mexican food. I love the chiles. This place has taken care of my need for New Mexican cuisine a number of times. The prices are right. Ignore that gravel parking lot and enjoy the setting, complete with stream and goldfish, lush plants (hey, isn't this a desert?), spacious rooms, and nice decor. Have some enchiladas.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
