It can be tough livin' in one of the lowest salaried states in the country. Every dollar makes a difference. 2009 stats (I know, old, but that's what Wikipedia gives me) rate New Mexico as third from worst regarding the poverty rate, and I'm sure nothing much has changed. Here's the upside of eatin' dirt: drinkin' good beer, cheap. Digging in your pockets for quarters, Burqueño? You'll need about ten of 'em for a pint, and you'll choose from a decent selection of brews that leave our impoverished southern competitors (Louisiana, Mississippi) jonesing for authentic pours. The DIVE has a solid line of local beer at prices that covet your landlord's incessant calls. I really, really wish this place existed when I attended UNM. (Oh yeah, it did. The original Kelly's: two dollah pints, cheap sammies and plenty of gut rot.) The food wasn't anything to rave about but the service was. Entering at 9:45 pm on a Friday, I figured they were open much later. Turned out we should have been sent away. But they let us stay past close, they even poured a second draft, because we wanted to wash down what we were eating. Absolutely nothing but good vibes and friendly words from everyone here. So hey guys, keep the doors open another couple of hours, at least on the weekend. We're enchanted by quality, inexpensive pours. We'll make it worth your impoverished dollar, promise.

Very cool atmosphere! Nice people with great food options! Can't wait to come back. Will definitely come back here when I come to ABQ.

They're really slow with making food that's my only issue. I usually share the herb neapolitan with my sister or a friend. They do some good stuff here, check it out. I really enjoy the bruschetta as well and the pizettas. Just make sure you come with enough time to wait 15-20 minutes for even the smallest order even when they're not busy. On top of that the waitresses (I don't want to call names) really like to ignore you and show attitude. I literally had to yell for her to even notice me and come to the table after calling for her for her about 10 times, both me and the person with me were ignored until I literally yelled out 'excuse me'. Both the waitresses were standing there laughing. And then on top of that I was shown ridiculous amounts of attitude. Disappointed. This is my fourth time here, didn't expect this kind of treatment.

This place does not quite qualify as a dive for me. The lighting is too bright, and the stainless steel too clean looking. 3$ beers are good, but they are a smaller pour by a few oz's. I believe they are 12 or 14 oz instead of 16- still a pretty good deal. Marble and LaCumbre beers are more expensive 4$ not 3$. I have not eaten there, the food looks alright. My good friend had a burger last night, with a salad as the side. Prices are inexpensive the combo was 6.75. That said, the portions are not huge, and they do not take a temperature on the burgers. He said the burger was okay, not great. The pizzas they make are not on fresh dough, which is disappointing. They looked rather dry to eat. Again they are like 6.75$ so you can guess this place caters to a student budget. The mixed drinks are made with mixes(the bottled kind), and lower proof alcohol. I keep wanting to try the food here, and then chicken out. The pork and beef sandwiches are the items that look the most promising. This joint is A-OK. I like coming here on occasion, but it does not really wow me. I like it enough to keep coming back.

Slow service on a Thursday night. Side salad (we both had the lemon Caesar) was fine and had just the right amount of dressing, with fresh ingredients and a good portion size. The pizza (the Steakhouse) my date and I shared was ok - pungent flavor of the blue cheese supplemented the strong meaty flavor of the beef, which was on the dry side. Overall, an ok :)

First visit to this restaurant. If you're walking to get to this place it makes for an interesting walk off Central. Great outdoor seating but unfortunately allows smoking...Food and beer prices are excellent! I would not think to order a salad here but tried the lemon romaine lettuce and it was delicious ! I loved that it was chopped making it easier to eat and the dressing was on each piece. Do not come for the service but do stop in for the food!

They got their own twist on everything, which is always a nice surprise. Their Green Chile Stew and Posole (seasonal) are worth the wait, too. Always fun and a good crowd. Ya can't go wrong here.

Uh nothing special about the Brick light District...I mean do you need to look for hipsters who just really want to be you? Average food, drinks and service

Bricklight is inconsistent. I have been here many times with friends and each time it is different. There are good and bad things about this restaurant The good: a somewhat clean establishment, full menu with many options, great selection of beer, nice outdoor seating for people watching and chatting with friends. The bad: very spotty service that is not particularly helpful or pleasant, food is not especially tasty or noteworthy, beer does not come in full pints, drinks are wine based. On two separate occasions glass shards were found in our beers that were served to us! Very dangerous and unprofessional. Thankfully the glass was found before consumption. I think there are some management problems here that may be affecting the overall quality of brick light dive and until these are fixed, I don't see it being a standout bar/restaurant/dive.

I had a lemon Cesar salad and a pizza tagged along with a strawberry lemon drop mimosa. Everything was delicious, good for you (excluding drink maybe lol) and fairly priced!

I've really fallen in love with this place while visiting Albuquerque. This is my second time here in three days because, well, obviously I think it's delicious (food wise and beer wise). Featuring 20 local beers on draught from Marble Brewery to Santa Fe Brewery to an ale that is actually made by monks called, wait for it, Monks' Ale, clever. Champagne martinis, champagne margaritas, muddled strawberry champagne mojitos, their version of Long Island iced, blackberry lemonade and a wasabi Bloody Mary for those of you who don't drink beer. And a various wine selection is available as well. Today I had the Santa Fe Nut Brown ale and the Monks' ale. Both are great brews in their own way. The Santa Fe Nut Brown Ale is dark, rich, and smooth going down, while the Monks' Ale has many different spice flavors that really come through after the initial first gulp is taken. Very satisfied with these two ales and I definitely come here again just for the Monks' Ale on tap! As for the food you won't be disappointed in this department either. I ordered the Pizzetta Blanca (fresh mozzarella, fresh spinach, roasted garlic, and crispy prosciutto), it pairs very well with the Nut Brown ale and makes me salivate just thinking about it. All pizza are individual Neapolitan-style topped with all natural ingredients. I have also ordered the Pizzetta Il Manzo (shredded, tender, Italian sirloin, sliced pepperoncini, garlic white sauce, mozzarella) and was completely happy with this selection too. Super savory flavor all around. On top of serving individual style pizzas they have bruschetta, fresh salads, porchetta sandwiches, manzettas, and paninos. There is something for everybody with the variety offered on the menu. I would definitely recommend coming by here if you ever have the opportunity to do so. It's located in the heart of Harvard SE, right next to the University of New Mexico, with ample parking and easy access to the restaurant. It is a sit down and be waited on kind of restaraunt, but there are also about 10 seats to pull up to at the bar if you just want a drink or two, or three! My server, Spencer, was on-point and very knowledgable about all the beers available on tap and all the varieties of toppings included on the pizzeta's. He was friendly, attentive, proud to work there, and welcoming. I am very happy I stopped by here three days ago because now it is one of my go-to places here in Albuquerque.

The first time I ate at bricklight I didn't think I would be impressed with the food. In my opinion food at bars just isn't what it should be and most places should just stick to serving drinks! Well, I ordered the Verde and I was surprised how good it was. Slow cooked shredded pork, fresh green chile on a baguette- what's not to love. Since I've had the pleasure of try almost all the sandwiches there and a couple of the pizza and I have yet to be disappointed! Great place to eat lunch or have a causal dinner, good times.

Everything is good here. I typically stick with the turkey sandwich with salad- to die for. Good beer selection, cheap too. Sundays are a great day to go- never terribly busy.

Love Bricklight Dive. I eat here almost every Friday. The food is good, their beer selection is awesome, and the prices are hard to beat. I love the atmosphere and especially enjoy eating out on their patio. Their service has been a tad slow in the past, but lately it has picked up a lot and has made it one of my favorite places in the University area to go.

This is one of the best pizza places in Albuquerque!!! I can't stop myself from coming back. The staff is fast and friendly. They're very knowledgeable about the menu and beer selection. The prices are hard to beat!! You can come in and spend about 25 to 30 dollars on two people. And that includes bruschetta and pizza to share, as well as two beers each. Great patio that is extremely dog friendly!! Love this place!! A dive with a twist!!

  • Andrea C.

I used to frequent the Dive often because I work on campus, and it is a quick walk. The drinks are fine, except for the fact that it seems you are getting a good price ($2.50) but in actuality the beers are not a full pint. Regarding the food, myself and several friends have been sick after eating the food (specifically the turkey panini and pizza). This has happened enough times that we do not want to eat there ever again. Additionally, the wait staff are bitches and take forever to take your order. One of them spilled beer all over my body any my backpack one time.

  • Michelle S.

I love coming here for pizza and beer! The drinks are super cheap, and the food is great. I usually opt for the lemon Caesar salad with either "the dive" pizza or the "pizzetta blanca." The service is also great!

I always like coming here for the good prices of food and drinks. I really like the staff and a great environment. I really like their greek salad and the flatbread pizzas are pretty good too. Good place to grab a Mimosa.

I was initially dubious when my rugby mates said they were coming here for post-practice beer & food. I don't know why, other than that it was called "DIVE" and the other locations on this street cater to college students. Walking in I could see it was busy with young hipster types, kinda noisy, but with a great beer selection. I ordered a beer and a "Verde Porchetta" (pork sandwich with green chile) which came with a side salad. I was shocked by the low price. When the meal came out, I was impressed with the rich flavor and decent size. Since then I go somewhat frequently, getting either the very sizable greek salad, one of the porchettas, or occasionally pizza. The price is right, the beer is cold, the service is great and the food is pretty darned good!

A special thanks for heading here goes to fellow Yelper Damon T., whose review convinced me I had to check this place out. I just wrote a review about Coda Bakery for quick and cheap eats; well, I think this place fundamentally falls into the same category. As other reviewers mentioned, you can get quite the bang for your buck here. My wife and I each had a sandwich and I had a beer and the total came out to about $15 buckaroos. Plus, I had a nice little ceasar salad with my sandwich, so I left feeling fool as well as like I got a good deal. I order the porchetta sandwich, based on Damon's review and the fact that it sounded delicious and included green chile and I was quite content with this choice. The aroma of the green chile alone had my mouth watering and the pork was well-seasoned and the bread fresh, crisp and tasty. My wife ordered the cubano and I found it be a pretty good attempt considering we're in New Mexico. The pork here had a great flavor and meshed well with the other ingredients. Overall, it was almost TOO MUCH food for the both of us. I appreciated the beer offerings, all local taps, which reflects a commitment to the local acts and allowed me to try a beer I've otherwise chosen to overlook. Also, the service was quick and polite. A few minor issues, if there were any at all, are that the seating isn't very attractive or comfortable and that for a dive, this place was awfully well-lit. Plus, we initially sat outside but were driven away by the smokers. But these are minor things that the great food and prices easily overshadow.

This place is pretty good. They have reasonably priced food and good pizzas. They also have decent prices on beer and mostly all local stuff. Pros: Good food and affordable beer and a nice patio Cons: Lot's of smokers, The bartender's frequently fast forward or mute the songs I PAY for on their jukebox, the cooks smoke like crazy and then go back in and cook food - kinda gross. Also, don't get too comfortable "getting to know" the staff there, they have the highest turnover of any business I've ever encountered. Most bartenders last about a week.

I was wary of this place after reading some of the reviews but I have to say I was very happy. A review on another site said your only hope of being served here was if you were a hipster...quite to the contrary we were a tired and bedraggled group employees who wandered in after work. We ranged from youngish to pretty gosh darn oldish and no skinny jeans to be seen and we were served right away. That being said, our server was attentive and friendly and showed up frequently to make sure we had enough beer, etc. The beer selection is great and dirt cheap. Marble and Santa Fe and also a wide selection of mimosas as well. The food was extremely tasty for the low price. Two of us had pizzas and two of us had sandwiches, and after sharing between plates we were all very impressed. It wasn't what I'd call five star restaurant food but it was great for the price. I'll definitely be returning to try out more of the menu and beers. This place is an underrated gem.

I'm currently laughing at several of the reviews on here because you would think people don't know that this place has 'DIVE' in the name. :) For everyone who thinks this is Il Vicino, it's not and it's not trying to be. Bricklight Dive has gourmet dive food in the way of pizzas, pita chips, and a mix of paninis and sandwiches. All of them are super affordable and pretty damn tasty. All of the beers and wines are reasonably priced and often locally sourced. The service can be a bit iffy, but it's a DIVE! I repeat, a DIVE! What are you expecting? Yes bad dives are much different than good dives and that's why this place gets 4 stars! In the mystical realm of clean dive bars with good food, this place is at least in the upper echelon.

The food is honest and good, and an excellent value. We had Porchetta sandwiches (pork loin, sauce, Havarti cheese, marinated vegetables, grilled peppers), salads (the Greek and Caesar), and a cheese pizzetta for our little boy. The bread for the sandwiches was crispy and fresh. Although the pizza wasn't top notch (e.g. Farinas or Il Vicino) it was hand made and tasty, and it was $5.00. They have a dozen craft beers on tap, including Marble brewing, with all "local" pints for $2.50. Unbelievable. They also have inexpensive cocktails, including Margarita and Bloody Mary specials. Not many places where two pints and a delicious hot sandwich will cost you $10! Service was friendly and attentive, unexpected for Albuquerque. Outdoor seating is nice, and it's a bonus that we can walk there from our house. Actually, it's quite nice how this area is getting developed into almost a pedestrian zone, with multiple new restaurants that have outdoor tables. The place could use some umbrellas, and I imagine that it is hard to find seating during the evening, at least as long as UNM is in session.

Besides the tacky and cheesy interior, their major problem is their staff. The staff has obviously not been trained in customer service. Our waitress, did not clean our table immediately before we sat down, which was fine since they were somewhat busy, But after 5 minutes, I, being a server myself, had to bus our table where the waitress didn't even apologize! I ordered the Eggplant Parmesean and my friend the Ciabatta Burger. After another 20 minutes of waiting, I was served a cold messy sandwich which I sadly ate based on the fact that I was starving. My friend was served a burger on smashed sliced bread without the promised head ingredient, Dijon somthin' mustard. When my friend asked about the ciabatta bun, the waitress rudely said "we're out of that" and walked away! THE WORST PART WAS later tonight, when I was checking my bank account, I saw they turned my $7 dollar check into over a $20 check!!! Unbelieveable! Definitely will be going down tomorrow to speak with a manager. Though their prices are good, their service ruined it for me.

This place is always busy when I walk by, so I decided to give it a try over the weekend. I was surprised because it was a Saturday evening and the were only two people inside having beers. The food and beer is cheap I ordered a hard cider and the turkey panini with a side Caesar salad and both were pretty good. I read some bad reviews on here and was a little worried but, I am glad I gave this place a chance and definitely will return.

OK, so this is a little back from Central, but if you walk past Cheba Hut and Winning Coffee, it will be worth it! I can tell you - it is my only hangout in the University area. Short version Cool servers, great hangout. TV's for basketball. $2.50 for (almost) a pint - I think it's about 14 oz. But, it ain't your generic Bud Light. Four selections of Marble, Several Santa Fe beers, Monk's Ale - these are some of New Mexico's best craft beers. The food is great! Try the dive pizza - prosciutto, goat cheese, yum! To be candid, they have been out of a beer selection or two both times I have been there. But, they have been open two weeks, I am certain they will iron out that kink. Besides, they have plenty to choose from, so we survived just fine.

I have my list of places to eat and maybe grab an adult beverage. Not realizing that I had been here before I decided to take a friend here after work. It was Friday, November 8, 2013, winding down and needed to relax before the weekend. It's street side parking and you have to have been here before to know the location since there are other eateries and the signage isn't visible. After I found a table, I was quickly approached by a wait staff. She was nice, cheerful, and offered me choices of beverages. I was feeling a glass of red rather than beer. There was a number of excellent choices from the menu. I decided to go with a pizza with meatballs. It was thin crusted, a bit on the spicy side which is fine, and cooked to perfection. The wait staff took turns checking on us which I was grateful for. The food and drink prices are affordable. It was a bit loud though and if you want to sit down with a glass of red to relax and enjoy a good conversation--this may not be the place. It's more of a place to gather with your buddies to grab a beer. The bar has like only 6 bar stools. And, if you like playing chess, ask the wait staff for chips; you can play chess on the table with your buddy. I don't play chess hehe. Otherwise, I recommend it to anyone. Enjoy.

Cheap beer and decent food. Yes sometimes the glasses are dirty and the owner is cussing at the kitchen. But for $2.50 microbrew is worth the troubles.

This is a great place for cheap drinks and decent food. Beers are $2.50 and food items are $5-6. They make pretty good sandwiches and okay pizza. I haven't had their salads, but they look good. The space is welcoming, they have a patio (but no shade) and a bar area to sit and watch some sports. I've gone for lunch a few times and it's not crowded at all and service is good. I can imagine that it can get packed with their cheap drinks and close proximity to UNM.

The waitress was clearly overwhelmed- watched several people bussing their own empties- after someone came by and reminded her she needed to pick them up. I was served beer in an obviously dirty glass, it was so bad it made the beer taste off. When I went to ask for a new glass, the bartender tried to tell me it was an old glass... that doesn't fly when I was able to wipe off the scum with my fingers. Instead of a re-pour, she started to pour the old, feet-flavored beer into a clean glass. Are you kidding? I had to say I was a germa-phobe in order to get a fresh pour- at least then it tasted like the Marble Wheat I ordered instead of gym socks. It was cheap, but I felt like a sucker for leaving a tip. Won't be back of my own volition any time soon- and I live two blocks away. Here's a way better tip than my $ per beer the table ordered. Take a sec to focus in a rush, treat your customers like you would want to be treated if you were a guest at a good party. Your service will improve and so will your tips.

Tried to copy and paste from my cousin's post on FB. We went yesterday during the day to grab a bite. We were never spoken to when we arrived. We didn't know if we ordered at the bar or could get service outside. Went outside for a while then came in to order drinks. She brought them to us outside and took our order. Never heard from her again. Had to go back to the bar for refills. Pizza was fantastic but one had to be corrected. She had put the order in wrong. She sent my cousin back outside with an extra container of coke so she would not have to refill his drink. The pizzas were tasty and would order to go but never come back and pay to have no service. We had been sitting in the hospital all day. It would have been nice to sit on the patio and someone bring me a drink. Too bad.

I was in town visiting some friends and we went here for drinks after eating dinner at El Patio across the street (El Patio is amazing by the way.) I had a strawberry mojito and a glass of their house cider. Both were really good and just what I wanted on a hot evening sitting sitting on the patio. They were fairly busy and they only had one bartender there so service was a little slower than it could have been but I was in no rush and she was working her butt off and still seemed to be in good spirits. The friends I went with said the food there was really good too but I can't speak to it myself because I only had drinks.

I like the atmosphere and prices at this place. The italian beef sandwiches and salad are delicious and $5. I usually go early in the evening, so it's never been very crowded, and I've never had to wait too long for my food.

A buddy of mine told me about the great selection of beers at this place. Sweet. Then, I tried the food. Oh man, it's really great! These little italian meat and cheese sandwichy things come out on a board looking really cool, and they taste terrific! Try the one with the pear slices, my fave.

Great new place, love the area and how much it is being developed. We also found a great new Taco place down the street Retro Taco! All of the new restaurants including Chiba Hut makes it seem like you are in a beach town without the beach! LOL!

The beers are local and are currently $2.50 a pint, which is pretty awesome. Also, the pizza's are amazing, and have a great ingredients that are at most $6.00 for a personal pizza. I went there with a couple of friends, and we all loved it. Great food. I hope it stays open for a while.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
