Made reservations and were seated right away. I would say it's a must if you are more then 2 people. Majority of our party got sushi so we sat in the restaurant not Tepan. The one person who got Tepan had to wait a very long time and honestly was not the best, I think it's better to her Tepan at the grill when you don't it's made in the kitchen and not as delicious. The sushi cuts were perfect, generous and the perfect pieces. I got the 911 sushi roll and it was decent, I'm not a fan of green chili with sushi. We also got a tuna roll, unagi, and a scallop roll. All of them we're also great. I got the green tea ice cream, thank to my yelp check in and I wasn't really a fan but it was a nice free offer :) Will come here again and only get sushi or only get Tepan.

My husband and I are from the east coast, and you can find some pretty awesome sushi over there! We have lived here for 3 years and I have been hesitant to try the sushi! Azuma was the first place we have tried, and we were pretty impressed. First, the decor is very nice. We felt like it almost felt as extravagant as some of the sushi places we have visited in big cities, like Vegas! It is a very nice atmosphere to eat. As far as the sushi, it was good, not the best but not the worst we've ever had. The most unique roll we tried was the Aloha roll. We haven't had a roll like that anywhere else. It has pineapple and cream cheese in it and then is actually deep fried so it is served warm. The kissing roll would have been my second favorite. My husband's second favorite was the New Mexican Roll. Tasting Green Chile in sushi was pretty unique. We tend to like extravagant sushi with lots of sauces and crunchies on top, and we thought that was an area that was lacking. As for service, alone I would give that 2 stars. I had to wait FOREVER to get my water refilled! But with the rest of the experience I still think overall it was a 4 star experience!

Seated at the teppan side for an hour and still no chef... Can we eat sometime tonight? Okay, so after loooooooooong uncomfortable wait, the chef finally showed up. He did a great job catering to all 11 of us with a fun showmanship. The food (filet & lobster) was delicious-though filet tasted a bit like liver... The fried rice & noodles were amazing and my 3 year old gobbled them up. I even caught a shrimp in my mouth. That was totally unexpected They got me a plate of green tea ice cream and both sides of the grill sang for me which was pretty cool. And in the end, only after the whole show is done and we got the bill they told us they don't accept groupon on Fri/Sat. That was the only reason we came here tonight. We had two groups in our table with groupon. Very dissatisfied and angry at this tricky tactic. Not cool at all. I would give food 4 stars but because of their service and sleazy trickery /dirty business tactics (1000 other customers fell for it too so you can't say it's my fault for not reading "fine print") I would have to give 2 stars overall.

We have never been here before, but have been to places similar. We went at a very good time on a Sunday evening for dinner. We were seated right away. The service was really good. I loved the food especially the rice. Everyone in our party of four got something different so we were able to try many different things. I will say that I did not care very much for the soup or the salad so if it was up to me I would bypass that and go straight for the fried rice or noodles. The corner where we stated was a little cluttered and servers had to scoot past us to get to the register. That did make it a little bit of close quarters. Other than that I would definitely go back again. My 12-year-old would love to try one of the private rooms which looks like it could be a lot of fun.

First time coming here. The customer service is outstanding. Our waitress and the manager frequently checked on us to see how we were doing and if the food is fine. The employees are very polite here. Not to mention, the food is absolutely amazing. I would definitely eat here again.

This location opened just a couple of weeks ago. We are frequent visitors of the San Mateo location and were excited this one finally opened. The wonderful experience begins the moment you walk in the doors, the decor is BEAUTIFUL. My girls and I sat at the sushi bar as usual and ordered a couple of our favorites. The spicy edamame is must have. Followed by a Monkey Ball roll which comes fried, and the 911 roll, which comes on a plate of flames. I meant to take pictures but was far too excited to eat. Kid's teriyaki chicken with rice and a fresh cucumber salad. We love talking to.the chefs and watching them create delicious art out of food. Azuma is and will more than likely remain our favorite sushi restaurant. We have never had a less than spectacular experience every single time we come. Congratulations on the new location!

Mmmmm. From the miso to the entree, this place is oh so tasty. The atmosphere inside is super high end and nice, the tables for teppan are spacious, and the servers are quick and helpful. Our chef was Alejandro and he was fabulous. Ever been so full you could burst, but it was just so good you wanted to keep eating? That will happen to you here! I had the teriyaki chicken- perfectly cooked and seasoned! The fried rice was among the best I have ever had, and Im stoked to have leftovers for tomorrow. I think this is our new location; it's so nice inside and our food reminded me of when the other location opened. Tasty, tasty, tasty. We will be back! If you come, ask for Alejandro- he's awesome!

Dinner and a show, anyone? Came here with the family on a weeknight. We sat at the hibachi bar. Everyone ordered something for the grill...except me. Sushi only, please! Everyone was quite shocked, but whatever. The sushi ain't bad here. You'd expect worse from a place that has to ship it into the high desert from god knows where. I also ordered the edamame with the spicy sauce on it. Big mistake. Edamame is supposed to be eaten with your fingers, and despite the sauce tasting good, it was a gooey mess. The hibachi stuff was awesome, full of knife cuts, hand flips and food everywhere. The fried rice was the best fried rice I've ever had, possibly because I got to see it made in front of my eyes. The fried noodles were also awesome. Y'all gonna be fat after eating here. The meats cooked on the hibachi grill were also awesome. Overall a fun experience. Tons of food. You'll have leftovers.

Wow this place is the definition of a Tepan restaurant! Your thinking oh but Azuma has been around for along time off San Mateo. Though that is true this new local puts the original to shame! There is more spacious seating an extremely more modern style and super friendly staff! I had the ribeye and it was delicious! Cooked with a heaping serving of mushrooms and served with all your typical Tepan treats. Also I had to sample some sushi which was the Pink Lady roll. It was quite tasty it had that FRESH taste. You know the taste you get at most authentic sushi places where fresh fish is if the plenty. It was some of the better sushi I have had in Albuquerque. This Azuma has taken over for my Tepan cravings! We will be back numerous times I'm sure. Remember to call ahead if you plan on eating after 6pm and don't forget the sake bombs!!

I have eaten at the other location before and had good service and food. This new location the food has the same quality but the service is very bad. Server was no where to be found and she brought our salad after we had finished dinner and we had to ask for our drink halfway through dinner.

So I tried the regular dining side last night. It was a terrible experience. Walked out last night. The server named jay was so terrible, we walked out. This was the first time in my life I was ever done this. - rude - slow - unprofessional - creepy - rude - sassy The place was busy and I can understand the wait, however the sassy attitude and rudeness is unforgivable. I will not be returning.

Food was good service was decent the only thing I have To say that's bad about my encounter is when I was about to get my bill my waitress asked me if I was paying in cash or by credit card I said cash when I was brought my receipt I was overcharged one dollar they probably thought I wouldn't notice and just pay my bill apparently even if you're paying cash they try skimming a little money off the top. I read in a review to always pay cash because they're always try to overcharge you on your credit card,A Dollar isn't a lot but trying to scam you in any way is still wrong.

The only reason it received two stars was the restaurant is clean and the service was decent. The sushi was not good! The salmon was fresh the rest ends there. We ordered tuna and salmon sashimi, shrimp and scallop nigiri. The shrimp, tuna and scallops did not taste good. Later that night my husband got food poisoning!!! Will not go back!!!

Great experience! Much better than the San Mateo location....more laid back and better teppan show!

I like it. At first glance the Teppan entres seem pricey, but with the sharing option and very generous servings, this place is a good value... And fun besides!

Food is always delicious here. The service is also great!!! I love their house hot sake, and my fiancé always gets the sake sampler which is six cold sakes one of which is unfiltered. The dynamite appetizer is absolutely phenomenal! It's like a hot seafood pot pie. It takes a while to cook and often comes out after the first couple if rolls, but it is well worth the wait!!! We have ordered almost every sushi roll, and have yet to order a bad one!!!

My husband loves teppan restaurants and we frequent the other Azuma location. This one, however, is a little bit closer to us so we were excited to try it when it opened. The first time we went was shortly after they opened. We walked in and were amazed at how different the decor looks compared to the other location. It looks very nice, though. It was late at night, around 8:00 I think, and the restaurant was pretty empty, and we were told it would still be a 15 minute wait as they had to prepare a teppan table. Okay, no biggie. After we were seated, the waiter took our drink order and we ordered two iced teas, which is what we always order with teppan (even if we order alcohol, LOL). He brings them, we take a sip and to our surprise, they're both sweetened tea. My husband can't stand sweetened tea, and I can tolerate it but I prefer unsweetened tea and to add my own sweetener to give it just a hint of sweetness as opposed to tons of sugar. No problem, it's a simple mistake, we will just ask if we can get two unsweetened teas. We are then told they don't have unsweetened iced tea (he didn't say they were out of it, just that they didn't have it - I'm thinking, how can you brew tea with sugar in it, but not tea without sugar in it? Also, it would have been nice if you mentioned that when we ordered it), but he does give us the option to order something else. My husband opts for hot green tea instead. It's served in a cast iron kettle, he asks me to try a sip and to me, it tasted burnt. Blah. My husband kept drinking it anyway. He said the taste didn't bother him, but I think part of it is just that he just didn't want to be a nuisance. When we place our orders, my husband orders extra fried rice, but I do not as I usually can't even finish what they give me. The other Azuma has always offered a choice of creamy or ginger dressing, and we both prefer the ginger. We're never asked what dressing we want and the salads automatically come with the creamy dressing, because they don't have the ginger dressing. It's really not that big of a deal, but by now I'm thinking, the other Azuma has both unsweetened iced tea and ginger dressing, so why would we come back to this one when we can go to the other one and get the things we like? Just then, our chef comes around the corner and we recognize each other. He used to be our favorite chef at Samauri (we used to go there often, too, until they changed management and service went on the decline). So there is a reason to come back, after all! When he checks our orders, he confirms my husband had extra fried rice, but then confirms that I had extra fried rice, also. I told him no, just my husband had the extra rice (not his fault, the order was given to him wrong). But he already had the rice prepared to include two extra orders, so I got extra rice anyway, though I do have to say that I was not charged for it, which was appreciated since I didn't order it, plus I had a ton of leftovers which is never a bad thing. The food was great as usual. Last night we tried it again, and things were much better. They were crowded, so we had drinks and sushi at the bar while we waited, and we were seated in less time than they quoted us. Then now have unsweetened tea and ginger dressing (as well as the creamy), and we got our favorite chef again. I ordered the shrimp, which is a favorite of mine, and it tasted even better than usual as this particular chef has his own way of seasoning the food that goes beyond just the typical preparation. This location now seems to be par with the other location, at least as far as the service at the bar and teppan section. We haven't tried the other dining options yet, but will soon!

WORST SERVICE EVER! We waiting over an hour for a drink from the bar. Asked the server 3 times for the drink and she never ordered it. I got 1 glass of water for the hour as we never saw her. Dad asked 2 times for a beer before another server brought it. Then we asked for the manager and the server said she was to busy for us. Then asked what the problem was. Finally the manager blessed us with her presence and was just as terrible. Told us the cook has no control of anything and cannot discount the bill. DWAid I mention the cook turned on the grill after sitting there for a hour first. Hostess and server failed to do their jobs. So we waited an additional 30 mins for him to start cooking. The onlu good one there was the cook who was awesome! The entire table tipped him directly and gave the server what she deserved. After all that the manager took a small amount off our bill and we left. I will NEVER return to this location again. Avoid at all costs!!
