Hard to beat there handheld burritos!! One of the best carne adovada burritos I've ever had. There pork is tender and juicy! Great red chili. Never had anything except there burritos and tamales!!!

Good food from your classic little hole in the wall. Could use a little more flavor but it is a great way to stay the day. They are always really nice. For the tostada, machaca burrito, chorizo burrito and the el burrote burrito. Tostada and chorizo were great.

The food was not very flavorful and the salsa, despite lots of garlic and onion, was bland. Their chips/taco shells are straight up gas station nachos quality. Way better places to eat within walking distance.

This place is a real gem in Albuquerque. I love their green chile. I always get the number #9 with green chile and onion. They also have excellent quesadillas and chile relleno burritos. I also really enjoy their horchata. This place gets pretty busy around lunch time so it is a good idea to call in your order. The staff is really nice and they have great prices. I would recommend this location over the Wyoming location hands down. Better food, prices, and service. Now is the time for my only complaint about this place. Please stop putting your hot food ( quesadillas) in styrofoam. It melts it if it is in there too long. Overall great place to eat at, especially if you are on a tight budget and want some good food.

Good prices for the amount if food. I will probably go back to see if I like other options better. Had the shredded beef taco & the adovado burrito. The shredded beef was tasty, the shell was a little stale. The burrito was ok, but I prefer a spicier adovado...my husband liked his food alright too he had the red chile meat (?) and the machaca burritos, one he was ok with the other wasn't his favorite. I wasn't blown away but I can't rule this out as a decent lunch option, just don't expect super spicy.

I love this place. How did it elude me for five years? And now as I move away, I'll lament the loss of those perfect tortillas, cheesy burritos filled with meat. I'll go back as many times as I'm allowed before I go. Don't make the same mistake as I did. Get yourself to San Mateo.

I tried this little hole in the wall the other day and was really surprised there burritos taste like grandmas cooking. Everything was fresh and tasty would recommend the carne adovada burrito

You know that one stupid saying "Don't judge a book by it's cover"...yeah...don't. This place surprised me. Simple menu (less is more for me at the moment) and great prices. I'm not dying about the food but I thoroughly enjoyed it. My hubs and I ordered a taco, a tostada and a fish taco. Id like to say that I appreciate them sooooo much for their huge drinks! I hate when I get an itty bitty no refills cup of Horchata. Where is the love?! Lol Solid place. Will return if in the mood.

Loved this place! Super friendly staff and great food. Had the taco plate with shredded beef and it was great. Also make sure to ask for extra salsa, I can't get enough of the stuff. Heard nothing but positive things about Acapulco.

Loved my experience here. The line was somewhat long, but moved super fast. I ordered the vegetarian burrito with red sauce and it was delicious- one of the best I've had in ABQ. the prices are amazing and the quality is authentic and you can tell it's gonna be good. Will definitely be here for lunch again!

I hadn't been here in over a year and I was in the neighborhood, my car steered it's way to the parking spot.....it knew. I had to get my #4 (all meat, green Chile) fix. This time, I added the #7 (chile relleno burrito) to the mix.....winners, all. The #7 chile could have been a bit hotter though. Outside seating is nice but lunch got interrupted by some panhandlers.

ABQ's best kept "Mexican Food" secret! I used to stop by here back in the day (late 70s early 80s) when i was stationed at KAFB in the Air Force. You're not paying for the ambiance here, it's all about the food. Took a trip to ABQ last year and dropped by w/ my college aged son. We had their patented Chili Relleno and we both loved it. My son stayed behind in ABQ for a college education, and he continued to make weekly trips to the little yellow hut that is now a family tradition.

It was impressive what they could do with just rice, pork, and chile sauce in a burrito. The combination of spices worked well. It was spicy, but not over the top. The flour tortilla was nicely toasted and still moist. The cheese enchilada flavors also complimented each other. The sauce did not cover up the flavor of the corn tortilla and cheese. Overall, they use superior traditional methods of cooking. There is only outdoor seating. The menus are on large hand painted boards, and you order from a window. This is definitely under the category of a dive, and wonderfully so. However, if you don't like dives, you won't like it. Some of the clientele were a little rough, but everyone was polite. The women who served us were friendly and helpful.

I'm not built for spicy food. My genetic makeup--German, British, Jewish and a smattering of what dad says "happened somewhere in West Virginia"--alongside a native heritage of Minnesota Nice predispose me to find comfort in, well, White stuff: snow, food, and let's not mince words here, people. Predispose, mind you. I'm wired that way, but that don't mean I operate according to the user manual. Like the little boy who plays with his sister's toys, I never quite panned out the way the Gods intended. I absolutely crave heat, and that doesn't square very well with my Midwestern upbringing. Long story short, here I reside, New Mexico True. This burrito stand has and always will be absolute 5-star worthy for me. The place is endlessly packed, lines are long, and prior to the invention of smart phones the minutes spent waiting for my foodie fuel were always agonizing. You can anticipate waiting your turn, so you know, fiddle with your stupid Candy Crush Saga, or whatever. It ain't fast food but it ain't slow, either. In-betwixt. Prepare for your fix. Order the green or red all-meat, or go meatless, the stuff inside is good but the chile and stretchy, gooey cheese is why you're here. The tortillas have that slightly-toasted effect, the way you do it in your abode, touched upon the gas-lit stovetop here and there. Dig on in. And at this point, should you encompass anything resembling the genetic riot of my Midwestern innards, good luck. It's best to hide yourself inside your home for the next, like, three days. Your guts will revolt. And you will remove a star from your review, if only because you subjected the general public to this. But seriously, this place is five star. Five.

Acapulco is awesome! The chile relleno burrito is so cheesy and delicious and perfect. Their green chile is my favorite I've had in ABQ so far, slightly chunky and very flavorful. The red chile is red chile, it's good. The burritos are very reasonably priced at around $3.50 each. There are only a few vegetarian options, but I can't complain given the good quality of the food and the fact that they never eff it up and put meat in my order. The service is quick, but when there is a line I always take the time to enjoy the hand-painted signs and decor (the flamingo trashcan is my favorite.) I saw a previous review that said these guys only take cash. They take debit as of three or four months ago, which is great because all the atms in the area are always broken or near a tank filled with snakes (true story!)

What a sweet little burrito joint! I really liked the chile relleno burrito. Next time, I believe I will try to tackle the "Burrote"!

Beans, Cheese and Rice burrito is delicious. All the flavors mesh well together and they make the beans so gooey and wholesome. The rice is soft too and they don't overload the burrito with too much cheese. The best part is the seemingly wood-fired tortilla. It has just the right amount of crisp. One downside is the burritos are rather small unless you get the grande super duper burrito. The reg. burritos work if you're looking for something light, but I'd prefer them a bit bigger so I can enjoy the food for even longer. BUT, everything's so cheap that you can just buy two burritos if you're really hungry.

Acapulco taco is a super delicious no frills inexpensive place where you walk up and place your order. You either take it away or eat outside on the benches. They only take Cash. They also have another location on Wyoming and Candelaria with indoor seating. The tacos are made with this fabulous shredded beef, lettuce, tomato and cheese; they give you this wonderful salsa to pour over it. My husband loves the machaca, shredded beef with beans, onion sauce and your choice of chile. Their burritos are a descent size; I usually order one burrito and a taco and hubby orders one burrito and 2 tacos. Their posole is not always on the menu but if it is be sure to get it because Delicious with lots of onion, pork and wonderful spices. Enjoy because you definitely will be coming back for more!

I've been a longtime fan of this place, it was always on our list of places to eat when we visited Albuquerque. Now that we've moved back, I can't stay away :) We pretty much always go with the #4 - green w/ meat and beans - sooo yummy!! It's about as authentic as you can get for New Mexican food and the ladies are always super sweet.

Wow, I really miss this joint. My mom used to own a furniture store like two stones throw away from this joint. I don't know what it is now, but whatever. Ok, so anyways, when we were sick of Thai food, or other places, we just walked on over to Acapulco. The ladies I remember were so sweet and friendly. I think there was an occasional man there, but most of the times it was the ladies. My fondest memories was ordering a verde burrito. Shredded beef, cooked in delicious spices, smothered with green chile. Oh my, I am drooling just thinking about this place. I also loved their tacos. They were good, and filling, and their salsas were also good with a very nice and spicy kick. I hope they are still around if I ever get to venture back to Burque.

I hadn't eaten at this place since the early '80s. So on my first trip there since that time I ordered the Taco/Enchilada platter and the #3 regular burrito. The platter wasn't that great, I guess you get what you pay for. In this case it was $4.70 so don't expect huge portions. The cheese enchilada was about average and I wasn't impressed with the taco. Everyone raves on about their tacos, apparently I don't understand what's so great about them. The taco had shredded beef, some lettuce and tomato and a tiny bit of cheese with a side salsa. The overall flavor was okay. The beans and rice were mixed together and the beans were very dry, too dry. The burrito was above average and if I ever go back I'll just stick to that. I did go back a second time and tried their breakfast burritos. Again, it was okay but nothing to be impressed with. But I will admit that if I ever go back I would give the breakfast burrito another shot. I gave this place 2-stars because I just don't see what all of the fuss is about.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
